to expand on the laser question, if someone gets lucky and only has a little hair, do u know if they'd still have to laser the whole face?
Well it depends on how dark your hair is (the darker the better) but generally yeah it would. You'd still need to go back for touch ups occasionally but you'd get to the clean look sooner

What do you recommend for hair removal? Do you know any tips or tricks for getting longer term full Body (everywhere) and upper lip & face hair removal with no pain?
In terms of hair removal methods, I recommend the following:
Sugaring: Full body and upper lip
Dermaplaning: Face and upper lip
Laser Hair Removal: Any hair removal you have the budget, time, and pain threshold to afford
Tips For Less Painful Hair Removal:
Use a topical lidocaine numbing cream (I recommend Zensa Numbing Cream, which is made to use on sensitive areas like the bikini line or lips). I especially recommend using a numbing cream for laser hair removal!
In lieu of a topical lidocaine numbing cream, I would take an Advil or another ibuprofen medication as instructed before your hair removal treatment
Avoid alcohol 24-48 hours before your treatment (caffeine too, if possible), and drink plenty of water within 24 hours of your hair removal appointment
Exfoliate and moisturize your skin before & after your hair removal treatment. Don't exfoliate too soon after a hair removal appointment (how to irritate your skin 101)
Apply an ice pack or cold compress immediately after hair removal
Use aloe vera or coconut oil after a hair removal treatment to soothe the skin and reduce irritation or bumps
Avoid sun exposure before and after a hair removal treatment (timeframes depend on the type of treatment)
Don't wear tight clothes, go swimming, take hot baths, or engage in any sweaty activity immediately after a hair removal treatment
Avoid using any skincare products (or haircare you removed hair on your face) containing fragrance/perfumes on your skin for at least a few days after treatment
Don't use makeup or spray tan on your skin after hair removal
Never go to a hair removal appointment hungry, stressed, when experiencing PMS or while on your period – all of these bodily states can lower your pain tolerance and make the treatment feel worse than it otherwise would

Hello loves it is once again time for me to raise money for my transition. Earlier this year we lasered the hair off my face and it gave me such peace and confidence I became incredible. New person. Now we're going for the rest of the body. Unfortunately this costs £1300 and in order to catch the deal and not have to pay more I need to raise it really fast. Of course, the more I transition the less dysphoria I feel, dysphoria which controlled so much of my life so miserably, to be replaced with genuine euphoria is unlike anything ever experienced before in my life. This is a much needed relief from a lifetime of misery. Please share even if you can't donate. Sharing gets to a lot of potential donations, so please donate, but especially please share https://www.gofundme.com/f/rosie-transition-fund-laser-hair-removal-body

PSA about hair removal
This post is for anyone who's seeking hair removal, but especially for the many other trans women / trans fems I see being given misinformation by laser or electrolysis technicians, especially in the US and UK 🥺
Laser hair removal
* Permanent hair reduction.
* Always shave the area closely beforehand. Laser is less effective if you do not shave.
* Ideally look for a clinic that uses something like a Candela GentleMax Pro or newer. Such machines are less painful & more effective than ones like any of the Alma Soprano devices.
* 6-8 sessions will typically be the sweet spot before moving on to electrolysis.
* If the technician or clinic tell you not to use numbing cream, that's a massive red flag against their knowledge. A technician does not need pain feedback from you to know they're using safe levels!
Electrolysis
* Permanent hair removal.
* You must let the hair grow at least a few mm before a session.
* Ask your electrologist for an estimate of how long it will take to clear an area, as their expertise and speed will vary. For example, NHS Scotland estimates it can take 250-400 hours to fully clear a face of facial hair. My own highly-experienced electrologist estimated 100-150 hours max for me, but has nearly cleared my face in under 25 hours. She's not yet taken more than about 120 hours to clear someone's face / neck fully.
* Again, numbing cream is not only absolutely safe, it's in fact highly recommended if you cannot afford local anaesthetic injections.
* For most folks, it's as much a mental challenge as it is about physical pain management. Even with numbing cream and strong painkillers, it's gonna hurt, especially in 2 hour+ sessions and around sensitive areas (especially the top lip and around the mouth).
* Aloe vera gel helps with post-electrolysis swelling and recovery.
Numbing cream
* The most common brand of numbing cream is EMLA, which is 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine.
* The strongest cream I've found without prescription is Tattoo Numbing Cream, which is 5% lidocaine and 5% prilocaine.
* If you can get a stronger cream on prescription at an affordable cost, this is definitely something to consider.
*To help with absorption, exfoliate and clean the area before applying cream, apply 60-90 mins before a session, and cover in an air-tight, water-tight dressing (cling film / plastic wrap works well).
Sadly, I can't provide much information on local anaesthetic injections. In the UK, they're typically arranged either by a medically-trained specialist at an electrolysis clinic or separately (such as at a dentist's) immediately before attending a session.

For those of you considering laser hair removal, here are the honest first impressions of someone who just went through it for the first time. For context, I have a pain threshold that can generously be described as "extremely low"; @sleepydelights affectionately says I have "tender pussy baby skin". I was also doing it on my face, which is apparently the most painful place to do it. So with all of that said:
Yeah, it fucking hurts. It feels like someone is snapping a rubber band on your face, but it's in discrete pulses and doesn't really linger.
But also, the pain depends entirely on how thick the hair is and how densely it's packed. It's like if someone pulls the rubber band back further when the hair is thicker.
I laughed a lot, made a stress ball my bitch, and also cried quite a lot (not like, sobbing, just that instant tear-up when you experience sharp pain, like from plucking)
It smells like burning hair. I still smell burning hair when I blow my nose. That part does, in fact, linger.
It fucking WORKS. Like, the smaller hairs were literally popping out, and my skin is considerably smoother than it's ever been, and it's been less than an hour. More hairs will come out when I exfoliate. Nuts.
It took less than 10 minutes, even with breaks to compose myself.
All in all? Absolutely fucking worth it. It sucked, but it was so short-lived, it really just... Wasn't bad at all on the whole. I will say, their math to convince me it was cheaper than the alternatives was hilariously unrealistic, and it is absolutely expensive, but goddamn I can't argue with the efficacy.
Gotta say, 10/10, will do again several times over the next 9 months.

The first time one of my trans friends mentioned laser hair removal, I imagined like a cyberpunk barbershop and was like hell the fuck yeah, they're gonna give you a new 'do with a fuckin BEAM?

Thanks to a post that floated by me today, I now want to throw out a question here to see if I can get some useful info. That question is, how effective can laser hair removal be if you're not on HRT yet and have no expectation of getting on that soon? Will it stick? Because googling gets me pages saying that its effect on hair growth will wear off after a few years.

Hiii! Fellow dark brown-haired transfem here, I need/want to know more about laser facial hair removal; how effective has it been for you? Wondering if laser will do or if I should insist on electro of some kind
Laser doesnt hurt as bad but electeolysis is more effective generally. Id say for the face though laser has been more than enough for me.

Has anyone tried any of those newer home laser hair removal gadgets that hit the market a little while back? I have wanted laser treatment on my legs and torso for aaaaages and if I can do it in a way that I don't have to make and keep appointments for I'll get it done a lot sooner.

First laser hair removal appointment has been scheduled for end of week. Good thing its then because my hair is probably too long for them to deal with and I'll need to shave tomorrow or Monday for them to be able to.... laser remove the hair
