New Friday recipe review post! This is Skypeia Scorching Stone Stew from the One Piece food zine, similar to a Brazilian fish stew or Thai coconut chicken soup. Extremely unusual and tasty, but doesn't last long but that's ok because I ate it as fast as I could.

We are so stunned by the talent and effort on display. Below is a copy of the forward, written for the fanzine. Hopefully it captures how we're feeling here at sunset visitor about this amazing display of love. This is truly next level.
Fanzine Forward
I can’t believe it’s been a year. While working on 1000xRESIST, it felt like development would never end. There was always something left to do, some sound, animation, or piece of music. A missing voice line here, a missing texture there. A bug persisting somewhere. I’m told this is a normal feeling in game development – and certainly we had similar experiences in the arts world – but this particular timbre of endlessness was new to me. And I think, new to many of us on the team. But... upon release, we continued to experience new things. We saw the first reviews go up. We saw players resonating with the story. We saw the first bits of fan art posted online. The first forum posts in ResetEra advocating for the game. The first messages and emails sent through our contact forms. We got to experience 1000xRESIST being discovered. Discovered by fellow devs and industry workers, discovered by the wonderful community gathering in our Discord, discovered by the amazing fans and artists online, and yes, by all the fantastic people here featured in this fanzine. Performing arts can be lonely. Even though you perform to people in-person and in real-time, after the performance is over, you rarely see the audience again. Their engagement with the work lives inside them, in memory, and one cannot really access that. This is what I’m used to. Getting the post-performance blues. To see fans continue to engage with 1000xRESIST, to get familiar with usernames and avatars, to answer questions on the Discord, and to witness this fanzine come together – to witness it even existing – has been remarkable. Thank you to all the contributors and organizers for making this possible. There’s so much talent and passion collected here. We are so grateful to have this community around the game, continuing to bring new people in and spreading the word. We say that a lot. We’ll keep saying it. 1000xRESIST was by no means a guaranteed success. There was a lot of risk. A lot of challenges. After all is said and done, we still exist because of the fans. It means the world to us that they’re making these characters – this story – their own. We get to discover a whole chorus of diverse artistic voices and perspectives, and all of a sudden, it’s not so lonely anymore. It starts to feel more like a collaboration. So, enough from me. Time to step aside and let these amazing folks take center stage! Six to one and HEKKI GRACE. – Remy Siu (Creative Director of 1000xRESIST) April 30th, 2025

More Don’t Starve~
So a while back the last issue of the Constantly Obsessed Zine was having a casting call, functionally, asking for people to apply and to send in a little something depending on if they wanted to do a writing or art piece—I sent in the lineart, got accepted, decided to finish it up to post it.
Feel like I should say something else about this...I do love Wilson and Webber’s dynamic and how everyone, Klei included, said the arachnophobe should adopt the spider-child. Also eclipse allowing for multiple pieces in one submission gets the Gordon Ramsay finally some good [redacted] food response from me because that’s honestly the first update that isn’t them attempting to fix something they broke to begin with. :\
Speaking of eclipse, find it here, remember to reblog, not repost, thank you! :D

Slaver Ant A piece done for the Farm Haven section of the art zine "Visions Unveiled" published by BobTheSeagullKing in collaboration with Logan/Tachyon , CrabdominalPain , and Luke Baker.
"In a world remade in layers of endless bug-shell, man is no longer the only kingdom maker. The hills of the giant ants are monoliths, rivalling anything in human history. Tunnel cities branch out like a circulatory system pumping from colossal formicary hearts. These grand ant colonies are powered not by intellect but by honed swarm instinct and ravenous dedication.
The Enslaver colonies consist only of a Queen and Soldier caste, lacking any true workers, relying completely on raiding other species and fellow ants to survive. Their bodies are built for butchery, with a mutation of duplicate specialized mandibles, a small pair for grabbing, and a larger folded back pair for a powerful snap. Enslaver onslaughts are brutal, with the shock-wave of dismemberment cracking like chitin lightning, stunning their surrounding opponents as they chop and chop. Their goal is less the slaughter of the enemy, as much as the complete thievery of their larvae. Though some will be eaten, many will be raised as servants for the Enslavers, doing the task they cannot.
Enslavers, however, can be too successful and eliminate all foreign colonies, or can be too weak to fight and raid, and so alternatives are sought....
The Myrmiluk people are the result of several generations of kidnapped and reconditioned human beings, the defiant ones instinctually culled by executioner's mandible and the rest kept in check by barbed whip antennae. Clothed in ancestral rags and larval silk, the Myrmiluk duties involve tending to their master's offspring and spotting nest parasites invisible to the primarily scent driven ants. This work scars their sunless skin with red blotches of formic acid, but the rewards of security and consistent food have made them loyal.
Though most only ever know the organic light of the fungus grown for food and visibility, some sneak off with the ants to scout the surface world and feel their ancestor's sun. These Myrmiluk scouts are revered back home for their hauls and stories, impressing their peers with chitter-tongue tales of strange lands and antless wildmen.
Much of what is known of the Myrmiluk comes from captured scouts or those whose ancestors escaped the burrows of a dying colony. Most enjoy their free lives on the sun blessed surface, but some have halcyon memories of the tunnels and the safety brought by ant masters."

I haven’t made a pinned post in a while, but since it’s my birthday month and I’m struggling right now, I figured it’s a good time to make one.
First, let me introduce myself. I’m Jessie Lynn McMains, aka Rust Belt Jessie. I’m a writer (poetry and prose), artist, zine-maker, spoken word performer, occasional musician, small press publisher, and general jack of several creative trades. I’m queer—bi/mspec and nonbinary (I use they/them, she/her, and he/him pronouns). I’m disabled and neurodivergent, and the parent of two kiddos. Politically? Well, I consider myself an anarchist at heart, but I still vote in every election. I think everyone should be able to have enough food, and a safe place to live, and yeah, even a few ‘unnecessary,’ fun things, just by virtue of being alive. As for the rest of my beliefs, you can probably garner a general idea if you peruse my blog even a little.

Now, onto the nitty-gritty. We had about ten days between when our last month’s food money ran out and when this month’s came in. It has been refilled as of today, so I don’t have to worry about that for the moment, but because of that gap, I had to spend money I’d set aside for other stuff on food. I paid our rent and energy bill for the month, but I’m a couple months overdue on our Internet bill, and I don’t want to risk that getting shut off. And then, well, it’s December. I’m trying to buy my kids some Christmas presents, and it’s not just my birthday month—my youngest kiddo’s birthday is four days before Christmas. Because of all this, I’m also way behind on writing stuff. I owe my zine subscribers a new issue (I didn’t send anything at all in November), and I’m trying to finish up some pieces to record for my new spoken word EP, but I’ve had to focus on day job and side-hustle stuff that’s more immediately lucrative, so I haven’t been able to dedicate much time to finishing these projects.
If you’d like to throw some $$ my way so I can get some gifts for my kiddos, keep my Internet on, get back to my writing, and maybe have a less-stressful birthday month than I did last year, I have V*nmo (JessieLynnMcMains) and P*yp*l (coeur.de.fantome [at] gmail[dot]com).
But hey, hey, I’m not just asking for something for nothing! I have a lot of stuff available on Ko-fi (rustbeltjessie), including print books and zines, ebooks and zines, and pins, and you can also hire me as an editor or commission a custom mini-collage. And almost everything is sliding scale/pay-what-you-can, some with a minimum price, others starting at $0.

And that zine subscription? It’s still not too late to get in on it, even though the year is almost over. If you sign up now, you’ll receive all previous issues, along with this month’s when it’s finished, and the final two will be mailed out in January.

Or perhaps you’d like to buy or commission something I don’t officially have for sale. Maybe you’d like to buy one of my existing pieces of art? Or commission a custom pin, designed by me, based on the band/film/fandom/whatever of your choice? Or commission a custom postcard poem/art piece, on the subject of your choice? Or have me write you a custom mini-zine, on the subject of your choice? I can do all those things! DM me, and we’ll work something out!

Oh, and I mentioned above that I was working on a new spoken word EP? Go check out my full-length spoken word album, Self-Portrait With Ghosts and Trains, which was released by Hello America Stereo Cassette in July 2021. You can find it at helloamerica.bandcamp.com. (I do get royalties from that release periodically, but it’s not as immediate as if you purchase something directly from me.)

All that said, I know times are tough for most people right now, so please don’t feel obligated to purchase anything or otherwise send money my way. And, as always, even just a few dollars helps, as does reblogging/boosting this post. 🖤
#rust belt jessie#artists on tumblr#writers on tumblr#pinned post#please boost#i’ll reblog this later with direct links added#thanks in advance

2 Month Hiatus Announcement
Hey guys,
I know I kinda went MIA again and I also know I don’t have to explain myself but thought I should anyway.
TL;DR - my dog passed away and I’m going on hiatus from tumblr and possibly the zine for a couple of months.
Trigger Warning below the cut - talking about the loss of a pet and depression
About 3.5 weeks ago I lost my absolute best friend in the entire world. He was my four legged, fur covered baby boy. I don’t remember if I shared his name before or not but it’s pretty unique so I won’t be sharing it for anonymity.
Unfortunately, he had two types of cancer. One tumor on his liver, which apparently wasn’t what was doing the most damage. His spleen was so enlarged and causing his stomach to distend. Toward the end he hadn’t eaten in nearly 2-3 days.
He was a very special husky who loved to interrupt me when I would talk, who loved to cuddle next to me when it was cold, and who would always give me kisses no matter how ugly I looked crying.
I wish more than anything that he was here to give me kisses now because the crying just won’t stop. I can’t express with words really how much it hurts to lose a pet, especially when it’s that one life changing pet. You know the one…the one where you know you’ll never have another pet that feels quite the same, or fills your heart so full.
This boy was that pet, and now he’s just gone.
I kept asking myself as I was saying goodbye, and the first few days following: how am I supposed to come home and not see his little head in the window, looking at me and excited for me to come inside? How am I supposed to wake up in the morning without him cuddling me, giving me those soft kisses and then, very shortly after, shouting at me in his husky way to get the hell up and let him out to the bathroom? How the hell am I supposed to go about my day without worrying if he got into something he shouldn’t while I’m at work?
How am I supposed to go on without him?
Here I am, nearly a month into the grieving process and I’m still feeling the emptiness he left in my heart when I had to say goodbye. I still hear the tip tapping of his nails on the floor, and I can still remember exactly what he felt like, sounded like, and even what he smelled like. Everything hurts, and it’s hard to think about how I can possibly feel better one day.
I know I’ll come out of this eventually, and that I’ll feel better eventually, but for now it just hurts.
I lived by myself for years but am now moving in with family because I just can’t stand to be alone in my house. His absence is like torture. I can’t sit on the couch without “seeing” him sitting next to me as he always would. I can’t get food out of my fridge without “seeing” him begging for a little piece of whatever I was making. I haven’t been able to sleep in my bed because I just know I won’t be able to sleep without the little rough housing I would do with him just before we would cuddle and go to sleep.
I miss him more than I can even begin to say. I can’t even look at pictures of him without feeling like I’m being stabbed. Maybe I sound dramatic but I don’t really care. I feel like my body and my heart just weigh a thousand pounds and I can’t move.
There was no love in my life the way I loved that dog, and now I’m just supposed to keep going. And I will (please don’t worry I have lots of support) but my god it’s not always easy.
I miss you sweet boy, and I look forward to the day I get to hold you one more time.
——
I’m not sure when if ever I’ll get to the requests from kinktober. I’m not even gonna make some elaborate promise about it. It might happen it might not so…
As far as the zine goes, I’m working with the contributors and mods to decide what to do going forward. Obviously my heart isn’t in it right now, and I’m in the middle of moving, so it’s possible we will be extending the deadline out a little ways.
I need to prioritize my mental health over everything else and right now my mental health is shit if I’m being honest. I’m just trying to get through each minute at a time.
Thank you all for understanding 💖

Love and Light
Summary: In the future, Sora takes Kairi to a festival he knows she'll love. Amidst the merriment and festivities, the pair reflects on all they'd been through together.
Length: ~2500 words
Pairing: Sora/Kairi, minor Rapunzel/Eugene|Flynn
Written for @twosidesfanzine.
The banner and all spot art was done by @nosieposie! Please check out her page and see her main piece for the zine as well!
————————————————————————
Kairi half-mindedly wondered which world Sora would take her to as she leaned against the glass dome of the Gummi Ship, more focused on the space dust and starlight around them.
Sora had promised her that she’d love every world they visited, and he had yet to be wrong. She was in no rush to see them all at once, but waking up and leaving on time that morning had been a first for Sora. He was determined to get there quickly, so whatever world it was must be good.
“I told you, it’s a secret,” he’d playfully reply every time she’d asked. It didn’t mean she’d stop trying. With all their teasing and laughing, their ship wouldn’t run out of fuel anytime soon.
Once they touched ground, gripping one another, Kairi barely had time to recover from teleporting before the world drew her in. The smell hit her first, of grass, bark, and wildflowers. Birdsong surrounded her, and Kairi didn’t have to guess what kind of world they’d landed in before opening her eyes.
The familiar oceanic breeze swept over her as she found herself standing on a narrow shore. Treetops and shimmering grassy hills stretched behind them, and across the bay before them sat a town built on a hill. Kairi turned to Sora, only to find him watching her in anticipation.
“I love it,” she said with a cheer, and his head lifted with pride.
He stepped forward and threw his arms out wide. “Welcome to the Kingdom of Corona!”
Sora being free and happy and…himself, filled Kairi with more joy than he knew.
She stared in awe as they walked along the shore to a stone bridge. Despite the kingdom’s size, the warm colors and atmosphere welcomed her in. Even along the narrow bridge, the cobblestone bustled with friendly faces and joyful chatter.
With several eyes turned to them and their other-worldly clothes—and Sora too busy watching Kairi to notice—Kairi teasingly pulled him aside and suggested they try to blend in. Lucky for them, clothing vendors lined the streets for some kind of festival.
Kairi fitted herself into a light pink corset dress, tight in all the right places while still fun and flowing. When Sora emerged from the changing tent, he sported a strapping dark brown vest covering a blue tunic and long, tan trousers.
In retaliation for all his staring, Kairi openly admired him. At heart, he maintained the joy of a child, but times like this reminded her of just how much he’d grown. When he found her and faltered in his steps, she wondered if he had similar thoughts.
Smiling, she approached and straightened his vest. “So fancy, but one thing’s missing.” Dipping her fingers beneath his collar, she sought his silver chain necklace and pulled the signature crown from underneath. “All better!”
“T-thanks.” He blushed under her attention, but made her red in return when he added, “You look beautiful, Kairi.”
A nearby flower vendor, excited over Kairi’s red hair, kindly offered to braid some pink and white flowers into it. She accepted and soon felt like she stood out even more.
Before food vendors could grab her attention, Sora took her hand and led her to an open town square with a tall mural depicting—she assumed—the royal family. Below the mural sat a half-empty box of colored chalk. Sora took some pieces and turned to her excitedly.
“Let’s draw!”
She giggled and took a yellow piece. Together, they found untouched cobblestones and began drawing. Without looking, Kairi guessed what Sora chose to make and risked matching it. Sure enough, when they revealed their pieces to one another, two paopu fruits extended to sketched versions of themselves, just like in the Secret Place.
They caught one another’s gaze and smiled, sharing a non-verbal how did you know? between themselves.
Kairi broke the silence when she shrugged and said, “If only they sold paopu fruit here.”
“I have something else planned for dinner anyways.” Sora winked.
Before Kairi could ask, live music began to play nearby—bright string and wind instruments trading the melody. Sora perked up, grabbed Kairi’s hand, and pulled her towards the sound, forgetting about their chalk-covered hands.
Already, a crowd of townsfolk had gathered, clapping and dancing along with the music.
“Don’t worry, it’s easy,” Sora said as he encouraged her further into the crowd. Kairi would never refuse a dance with Sora, so she followed eagerly when he spun her in close. Despite the free style of it all, the dance had some structure to the steps and spins. “When the music signals, we change partners.”
Kairi pouted playfully. “But what if I want to keep dancing with you?”
“I wish.” Sora leaned in closer and reassured her. “I’ll find you by the end, promise.”
It was good enough for Kairi. She nodded with a smile, and soon the music picked up. With a wink, Sora spun her away and released her hand.
She found the gaze of an older blond man and, with an open-handed invitation, initiated the next dance. This continued for several more rounds, and she traded both male and female partners. So many people were dancing that Kairi never had the same partner twice.
Each one seemed eager to dance with her, until she flew into the arms of a tall, handsome man. His gaze wandered over the crowd, obviously looking for a specific person. Kairi cleared her throat to get his attention.
“Sorry.” He shot her a charming smile before beginning the dance. “Not that you’re not a lovely young lady, but I’d like to make my way over to dance with my wife next round.” He gestured with his head over to the side. “The jumpy brunette, can’t miss her.”
Sure enough, Kairi spotted the woman twirling and dancing with more energy than anyone else. Laughing alongside her as she danced—coincidentally—was Sora. Pride filled Kairi’s chest, not only from Sora getting to be himself, but also spreading that joy to others. He tended to have that effect on people.
“Of course.” Kairi turned back to her dance partner with a smile and followed his lead.
When the music crescendoed, her partner prepared to spin her out of reach, but froze.
“Sora?!” he asked, puzzled.
Kairi turned, and recognition showed on Sora’s face.
“Eugene, look who it is!” His wife grabbed Sora’s arm and pulled them all out of the crowd.
“You know Sora?” Kairi asked, unsurprised considering Sora made friends everywhere he went.
“We sure do, gosh it’s been years!” The woman beamed. “You must be a friend of Sora’s too?”
At that point, Sora swooped between them and put his arm around Kairi. “More than a friend actually,” he said proudly with his whole heart. “Rapunzel, Eugene, this is Kairi. Kairi, these are my friends here. Rapunzel is the princess!”
“Nice to meet you.” Kairi smiled and offered her hand to each of them.
Eugene took her hand and bowed apologetically. “If I’d known you were with Sora, I wouldn’t have brushed you off. Sorry about that.”
“I can’t blame a man for wanting to dance with his wife.” Kairi winked.
“Wife?!” Sora startled beside her. “You guys got married? Why didn’t you tell me?!”
Rapunzel giggled and shared a knowing look with Eugene before showing off her ring. “I was about to.”
Grinning, Sora pulled them all into a group hug, mumbling congratulations into their shoulders.
Pleasantries were cut short, however, when the clock struck the hour. Sora pulled back. “I’d love to keep dancing, but we’ve got a dinner reservation.”
“We do?” Kairi asked.
Rapunzel and Eugene chuckled, sharing another look before Rapunzel spoke. “Don’t let us keep you from your fun. Enjoy the Festival of Lights, and visit the castle before you leave, okay?”
“We will,” Sora promised, then Rapunzel swept Eugene back into the fray.
“You reserved dinner?” Kairi teased.
“It’s a surprise.”
With that, Sora led Kairi through the town until they reached a restaurant on the water. With a look of recognition, the host led them past the main dining area, up a narrow flight of stairs, and through double doors to a balcony outfitted with a single table. Candles lit the environment against the evening as they took their seats.
Kairi could feel Sora watching her just as he’d been doing all day, priding himself on her reactions. Soon, the chef came out and personally served them the prepared dinner, a golden braided pasta dish. Maybe it was just the brightly colored flowers accenting the food or the rich scent of lemon and parmesan, but it seemed to hold a glow on its own.
“Rapunzel’s Gemelli,” the chef explained. “A dish named for the princess, inspired by how her long golden hair first captivated the kingdom and lifted our spirits.”
As lovely as the dish’s presentation was, it smelled even more delightful and didn’t keep the pair from digging in for long. The perfect al dente noodles mixed satisfyingly with the lemon garlic sauce, leaving behind a citrus tingle. Before she knew it, Kairi was halfway through, singing its praises with Sora the whole time.
Then Kairi paused for a moment, recalling the chef’s words. She could see how the pasta could resemble hair, and no doubt Rapunzel’s presence would inspire any artisan. But one detail confused her.
Kairi leaned closer to Sora and asked, “Isn’t Rapunzel…a brunette?”
Realization crossed his expression and he lowered his fork. Kairi had a feeling there was a story to this.
“She is now, but it wasn’t that way before. Her hair used to hold Light, so it was golden. If it was cut, it’d lose its magic, so you can imagine how long it used to be.” Sora chuckled at that last bit.
The mental image both amused and bewildered Kairi. She’d heard of magic living in strange places, but never someone’s hair. Then, the connection with the royal family mural clicked.
“So…why’d she cut it?”
Sora’s gaze fell, as did his smile. “She didn’t. Eugene did. An evil woman held Rapunzel hostage, using her hair to stay young forever. Eugene tried to rescue her but was injured. Instead of letting Rapunzel use her hair to heal him, he cut it to set her free.”
“How heroic and selfless.” Kairi leaned on her hand, fully enraptured by the story.
Sora nodded in agreement. “Without magic, the evil woman died, and Eugene nearly did too. But there was just enough Light left to help Rapunzel’s love bring him back.” He shook his head. “I witnessed the whole thing. He was willing to sacrifice himself for her freedom.”
Kairi giggled lightly and reached across the table to brush his hand. “Reminds me of someone else I know.”
Sora smiled bashfully. “I could say the same. At that point, I already knew that I loved you. But after witnessing that, then seeing you use your Light to save me—and everyone—after that wave of Heartless…I realized that maybe you loved me too.”
His gaze drifted, fixating on painful memories, so Kairi squeezed his hand to return him to the present. “You were right, and I still do.” She smiled. “Thank you for taking me here. I can see why you chose this day.”
Sora glanced out the balcony for a moment before turning back to her with a gentle smile. “There’s one more thing tonight.”
But they’d already done so much. Wordlessly, Sora stood and led her to the railing. Below, the water shimmered, and the evening sky opened above. The kingdom darkened with the setting sun.
Kairi held onto Sora and followed his gaze up to the castle. Suddenly, a single light dotted the sky from the top balcony. A golden lantern.
She watched as it slowly floated up and away from the castle. A moment later the entire kingdom was illuminated as hundreds of identical lanterns were simultaneously lit and released into the sky. Before she knew it, they were all around her, so numerous that she couldn’t tell they were lanterns anymore. They reminded her of the lights that fell upon Destiny Islands as it reformed before her eyes.
Sora stepped aside and offered an unlit lantern. She held the fragile paper in her hands while he lit it with a simple fire spell.
“These lights once called Rapunzel away from her captor and back to her kingdom,” Sora said. “In the same way, you’ve called me back. Rapunzel’s home now, and thanks to you, I think I am too.”
For all the words Kairi had written to Sora over the years, she now stood speechless while holding the warming lantern. All she could do was smile and try to fight back the tears that she knew Sora could see in the light.
He held the lantern with her, and together they released it to join the symphony of floating lights above them. Empty hands soon found one another as the couple allowed the evening’s peace to fill them. Kairi silently vowed to always guide him home, while praying she’d never have to again.

Epilogue:
The sights, smells, and sounds when first landing in the Kingdom of Corona would never grow old to Kairi. Even all these years later, the same wildflowers bloomed as the trees around them grew taller, and she swore the birds passed their melodies down to their offspring. It was so different from their home, yet it filled both Sora and Kairi with a similar peace. Some years had made it more difficult to travel than others, but for the past ten years, Sora and Kairi had always set time aside to visit Rapunzel’s kingdom for the Festival of Lights. The two couples had become close friends, and the continued tradition was living proof that the worlds were safe and healing. Above all else, the jubilee made them feel like kids again, not that Sora ever needed help. His childlike wonder never left him, a trait Kairi loved about him more and more each day. Even now, as their eldest bound down the grassy hillside, Sora’s competitive urge overtook him, and a race ensued. Another clung shyly to Kairi’s skirt for a moment before the hill called to him as well, leaving Kairi alone with the small bundle against her chest to take in the view. Cobblestone paths withstood years of heavy traffic, and besides some homes and fishing docks being built along the shore, much of the kingdom remained the same. The local shopkeepers, who simply knew them as visitors from another kingdom far away, had begun to recognize them after a few years, and greeted them more warmly with each visit. Kairi bought a bundle of primrose and gently tucked a stem into her daughter’s beanie so it poked out just above her ear. She smiled at the sight as her winded family joined her side. “Welcome to the Kingdom of Corona.”

A/N: Thank you so much for reading, and Happy Holidays! I'm later to publishing this piece than I normally would be, but I still want to take a moment to express my whole-hearted appreciation to the @twosidesfanzine team for accepting me to this project, to @phoenix-downer for beta-reading this piece at every step and offering invaluable feedback, to Liv for formatting the final product, to adri(@/faedriana on twitter) for the delicious gemelli recipe, to @nosieposie for the beautiful banner and spot art that helped bring this story to life, and to every zine contributor who read and reviewed this piece while it was in-progress,.
Some author's notes for anyone interested: Tangled is my favorite Disney movie. As soon as I knew I'd be writing for this world, I knew I wanted to have Sora and Kairi visit the Festival of Lights a few years post-KH3 (a trip to the Snuggly Duckling was tempting too). Even though Sora and Kairi didn't get to enjoy the festival in canon (yet), I knew that these two would fit perfectly into the world with Rapunzel and Eugene. Both couples are so romantic but also silly and fun-loving. It was a challenge to stay under the word limit because the possibilities are limitless with the Festival of Lights. Ultimately, I knew SoKai would never resist a dance, and I thought the idea for the Secret Place sketches with the street chalk would be really cute too.
I also wanted to draw on the themes of Tangled, which are very similar to that of Kingdom Hearts. Light is more than just photons, instead acting as an ensouling entity and a powerful source of magic, symbolizing healing, goodness, and purity. The title, "Love and Light", comes from the fact that the two forces often intermingle and strengthen one another. Rapunzel's love for Eugene not only drove her to trade her freedom for a chance to heal him, but it allowed her last drop of Light to bring him from death. Likewise, Kairi's pure heart of Light and love for Sora restored him from his Heartless form, brought him and Riku from the Realm of Darkness, and saved him and the other Warriors of Light after they were first defeated by Organization XIII. Sora himself drew this connection when, as Kairi led him hand-in-hand to safety, he recalled witnessing Rapunzel save Eugene. In my opinion, this is when Sora realized Kairi loved him as more than just a friend. This is also why I chose to have Sora and Kairi be in an established relationship for this story. After that "light in the darkness" scene in KH3, the barriers between them began to fall. They were holding hands and hugging like crazy (thank you, ReMind). After a few years, especially after Sora returns/is rescued from Quadratum, it's safe to assume they're well-established ;)
I believe there's also a parallel between the lanterns' lights calling Rapunzel home, and Kairi's light guiding Sora home. We don't know how Sora will find his way home from Quadratum yet, but I'm hoping the Light from Kairi's heart plays a primary role, as she always has in the past.

"Here is what is taught to the Hive, from the basest of Thralls newly made: that what can be destroyed, must be destroyed. What cannot be destroyed will surpass infinity."
my piece for @swordlogiczine - a fragment of how the hive might view time and history, framed by their crusade and fatal purpose
I am still so overwhelmed that I was chosen to write for the zine, especially in the company of talented friends and long-admired artists and writers! thank you so much for having me, @eiramew!
check out the whole zine here!
Let me congratulate you all. You may be a ragged, sorry group of acolytes – some of you not even with your eyes fully grown! – but you have lived a full year from the moment you clawed yourself free of the brood sacs. A year of hunger, growth, and perhaps even the forming of a few wits in your vacant skulls.
I am here to shake them loose, and see if they can do more than rattle on about food and killing.
By now, you must know the littlest fragment of our history. Of the pact made with the worm our god, the gifts and secrets they granted, how they cut the first wounds to lead us from our world|prison. Can even one of you frail wretches tell me which of the worms we follow is the strongest? Your single year of life should have taught you this at the very least.
Honest Yul, who spoke first! A safe answer, at least you have been paying some attention.
What of Eir, reality cleaving to his words to carve out laws, or hungry Ur?
Ah, Akka – a clever trap, most commendable. To deny it would be to deny the power our king commands. If your tongue doesn’t kill you, you might even do well… and now that I’ve said as much, you will have to be even quicker, won’t you?
All wrong, however – yes, callow acolyte, even your trick answer. The strongest worm, and the oldest, the one that truly cannot be escaped, even by its kin – we know its name, and its name is Time.
No? Perhaps you are too young yet to realize it – even our gods are trapped within the bounds of time’s coils. They cannot leap through it as those brittle machines do – nor would they, for such a victory would be hollow, unmade as soon as it was within our grasp. No, we carve our deeds into time’s hide through struggles and slaughters, and our history is found in these deepest wounds, the scars we have etched into it. Still the worm heals, and grows, and devours, and so our wars become stories, our stories myths, our myths an echo.
You might think each year, each decade and century and long millennia of our crusade is a step forward. This is a lie, a trap. Why is the future so close and the past so distant? Because time curls inward upon its own tail, until it reaches the end of history and swallows it, grinds it down into void and dust. Each of you, and even I, will one day be only a faded memory, a single faint mark upon it – and then nothing at all.
What’s this? You all look so discouraged! Does it trouble you so to know that you will be eaten twice-over? Time, at least, will leave no messy carcass or spore lying around for others to scavenge.
Here is a truth to make the knowing go down more smoothly.
Oryx will prevail. We will flense lies from truth as the softest, rotting flesh from bone. By sword and teeth and hunger we will craft the universe a most perfect ending, our first and final gift. Freed from its grasp by rendering reality irreducible, our king will behold the greatest worm in its totality – and cut off its head.
In its death throes, it will disgorge its tail, it will flail and unravel, and in its unravelling it will reveal the whole of time from the moment it bit down on the first flicker of consciousness. There, scarred and bleeding, will be the final truth, the only truth – the story of we, the Hive.
Live long, little acolytes, and live wisely. You would like to see it for yourself, wouldn’t you?

Welcome!
Come one come all, experience limitless flavours, and luxurious desserts in the Dungeon Meshi zine, All you can Eat!
This post serves as an introduction to the project, and will include a link for signups at the end!
What is this about?
'All you can Eat' is a collaborative Dungeon Meshi fanzine themed around group meals and communal eating. We hope that we can gather a wide range of participants to portray many different characters indulging in many different kinds of food. The more range the better!
How does it work?
The zine is hosted by myself @neotomiccccc and makani @dongoverlord . You can apply to join the project by filling in the form linked in this post! If your application is successful, we will respond to you within a few weeks and send you an invitation to the discord server where all communication about the project will commence. This means you must have discord to participate! We also kindly require that all participants must be over the age of 16!
Once in the discord server, you can begin working on your piece! This can be a piece of art or writing. Your piece must feature at least three characters from Dungeon Meshi enjoying a meal together. Ships can be incorporated, but they should not be the only focus of your piece. You will have several months to complete something!
Do I have to pay?
No! All you can eat will be a free digital PDF that you can download. We're just putting this together for fun and for the love of Dungeon Meshi!
What about Spoilers?
We're taking a fairly spoiler-neutral stance. This means that you can draw anything that has appeared in the anime so far - EG. Chimera Falin is fine. You CAN also draw characters that have not appeared in the anime yet so long as they are not doing or referencing something that is a spoiler itself - EG. Drawing the canaries simply sharing a meal is fine.
How do I join?
You can sign up HERE! Signups will be open for the next month but may be extended as we see fit!
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot this blog an ask!

Chapter 4 is up!!
Was gonna say I had no idea how to link this chapter on tumblr but look at me, I figured it out! Chapter 4 is up, if you so dare to read this absolute monster of a fucking chapter. It took me like two hours to just do another once-over before I posted it, holy shit.
And there's art at the bottom!! Super cool!! (DON’T SKIP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CHAPTER FOR THE ART, YOU WILL GET SPOILED; I AM SO SORRY PERSON WHO COMMENTED 😭😭)
Some behind the scenes stuff I thought might be cool to include here, if that's something that interests you. Moreso for my benefit, I suppose, but there's a read more because it's spoilers:
The discussion between Rantaro and Kokichi was one of the first conversations I fully drafted out for this fic when I started outlining. It has changed somewhat as the outline was fleshed out, but the big pieces have always been the same, so if that tells you its importance, I don’t know what else does lol. I actually have all of the Rantaro conversations already drafted out (though there are technically only two more super important ones). I hope his role is as interesting to you as I think it is.
One of the reasons I struggled so endlessly with writing this last section is because I initially did just have Kyoko and Shuichi sitting down for a normal interview. I scrapped that idea near immediately because it just felt so boring (glad I did). I also scrapped another idea that I won’t divulge quite yet because I think I may still use it in a later chapter.
The lovely @psaiouma was so kind as to lend me a copy of a DICE zine that I realized, after drafting out some of the first section, I accidentally copied a little bit. And I thought I was so clever making it so they didn’t actually know what their acronym was lol. So I tried to keep the acronyms away from what was used in the first fic in that zine, though I could only go so far (that acronym is ridiculous, dammit Kokichi!)
I know it’s typical to give Kokichi the chess-move-type metaphors, but I thought it would be interesting to let Shuichi take a lot of his inspiration from Kokichi in this chapter and, thus, feel as if he’s playing chess with the various people he has to trick. Clearly, he’s not as good at it as Kokichi, lol, but hopefully that wasn’t so jarring to read.
Aaaand yeah, I'm taking a break for like a week lol. I have been sitting on this futon since 4:00 am finishing this and I need a shower, the sun, food, and maybe a glass of wine. Don't be like me lol
Hope everyone has a great day and this bombshell of a stupid chapter isn't unbelievably overwhelming. I appreciate those who have been so hyped about this and hope it continues to be something interesting for you to read :)
