So now I’ve decided in my little AU/fanon that Dick and Barbara never dated when they were younger, but because they met at vulnerable times for them that they created this super co-dependent friendship that has some sexual or romantic tension, but they both need each other so much that they won’t take it to that level or ruin their friendship because of those feelings. (Although I think they’d kiss each once or twice).

Once the teen titans reform, Dick sees Barbara less and less because he’s with the team. Barbara starts to feel resentful because he’s the only one who came her down from her episodes after a fight (she gets shaky and gets a fast shot of adrenaline that can cause her to pass out if she’s not careful) and then he wasn’t there when Jason dies which further distances them.

Then Barbara’s chronic illness/pain starts and Dick is worried for her, but doesn’t know how to really deal with her. Eventually due to Barbara’s own resentment of her own body, she takes it out on him because he’s happy w/ the titans and Kory while she has to face a new reality, lose everything—lose him.

After Dick finds out she’s Oracle, they’re friends again, but like in a more mature way. However their feelings for each are still present, but they know it’s not the right time. Dick is still with Kory and Barbara doesn’t want to be too distracted.

Anyways I don’t think Dick and her don’t truly “date” until after Kory breaks up with Dick, the titans are disbanded, Nightwing moves to BloodHaven, and they finally with more mature attitudes about each other.
