#Pork Katsu Curry Rice
buffetlicious · 1 year
Text
Opened by an ex-head chef of a famous tonkatsu restaurant at ION Orchard. Maruhachi Donburi & Curry strived to sell restaurant quality teishoku sets, curry rice and donburi bowls at hawker centre prices. This is the takeaway bowl of Chicken Katsu Don that sis had. Came with crispy breaded chicken cutlet with egg over rice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had the Pork Katsu Curry Rice which had a sizeable piece of golden-brown breaded pork cutlet and pickled red daikon. The curry sauce is separated by partition in the bento box so you still get the crispy texture of the deep-fried pork. Both dishes are priced under S$10 each at the time of dining though prices had got up but still remain affordable.

Pairing: Jason Todd x Fem!Reader
in which you and your partner love each other on a cliff in the rain
a/n: pls send prompts I'm struggling with writers block 🙏 as always, if you enjoyed leave a like or comment!
Tumblr media
The scenery was beautiful. You were standing on the edge of a rugged cliff, the cool breeze gently weaving through your hair as you gaze out at the breathtaking scene before you. Below, the vast expanse of the ocean stretches out endlessly, its surface shimmering like liquid glass in the soft, golden light of the early evening. The sky above is painted with hues of orange, pink, and purple, as the sun begins its slow descent towards the horizon.
Wispy clouds catch the warm, fading sunlight, creating a stunning tapestry of colors that blend seamlessly with the tranquil waters below. As you stand there, the soothing sound of waves crashing against the rocks far below reaches your ears, creating a symphony of nature's melodies. Seagulls glide gracefully through the air, their silhouettes adding to the ethereal beauty of the moment. The air was chilly, the autumn days slowing creeping to winter.
The view from the cliff at early evening is a serene and awe-inspiring sight, a perfect harmony of nature's elements coming together. You turned to face Jason and went to sit down in the soft grass.
"Wait, hold on." Jason stopped you from sitting down. He whipped out a picnic blanket and set it on the floor, making sure that it was perfectly straight. "There, go ahead," he gestured for you to sit down. Your heart absolutely melted.
"Aww, thanks baby." You have him a smooch on his cheek and plopped down on the blanket. You carefully set the picnic basket on the blanket before patting the spot beside you. "Come on, sit down." Jason moved beside you and sat on the blanket, hooking an arm around your waist and tugging you closer to him. The warmth radiating from him keeps you warm in the cool breeze. You press your face into the collar of his hoodie, inhaling his familiar scent of gunpowder and leather. Jason's hand curls tighter around your waist, pressing you into him so he could press a kiss on your jaw.
"You hungry?" He asks. You nod and pull the basket closer to the both of you by the handle, opening it and taking out two lunchboxes Alfred had so kindly prepared for you and Jason. Thankfully, they were still warm from the food, the fuzzy warmth of it sending prickles down your arm. You hand the red and black one to Jason, passing him a fork and spoon at the same time. You took the other lunchbox, getting a set of cultery for yourself.
"Thanks," Jason mumbles. You smile and him and you both open your lunchbox at the same time. In the lunchbox, a generous portion of steaming white rice formed the base of the dish. Atop the rice sits the star of the show: a golden-brown, perfectly fried pork cutlet. The tonkatsu looked crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a mouthwatering golden hue. Alfred's glossy, savory curry is generously ladled over the tonkatsu, and it cascades down the sides, pooling around the rice.
You bring the Katsudon closer to your nose, the enticing aroma of the dish envelops your senses. The curry sauce emits a fragrant blend of spices, including notes of cumin, coriander, and turmeric, which fill the air with warmth and depth. The fried pork cutlet adds its own inviting scent of savory goodness, with hints of toasted breadcrumbs and the rich aroma of well-cooked meat.
"It smells good," Jason says, nodding his head in approval. You stab your fork on a piece of katsu, and stuffed it into your mouth. "It tastes good." You say with your mouth full. Jason chuckles and lifts a finger to brush against the corner of your mouth, swiping away a smidge of curry. He then sticks that finger into his mouth, sucking on it. "It is delicious." He smirks. Your face was flushed, cheeks reddening at Jason's action.
"E-eat your food, you doofus!" You yell, smacking his arm. Jason chuckles and begins eating his food. With flushed cheeks, you return to your food, comfortable silence settling down between you and him, only broken by the sounds of chewing and the cultery clacking against each other.
After finishing the meal, you and Jason set the empty lunchboxes aside. You leaned against Jason, savoring the afterglow of your delicious dinner. The sound of the rain falling gently on the picnic blanket provides a soothing backdrop, complementing the beautiful view of the ocean beneath, which seems even more magical in the moonlight. Jason, with a contented smile, turns to you, his blue eyes sparkling with warmth and affection. "You know," he begins, his voice soft as a whisper, "this view is stunning, but it pales in comparison to the beauty of you." Your heart flutters at his cheesy words, and you can't help but return his smile. "You're always so cheesy," you reply, your voice filled with the same tenderness.
He chuckles softly. "Only because it's so much fun to see you like this." He leans in closer, his nose gently nuzzling against yours, and his lips meet yours in a gentle, lingering kiss.
The sky above you, a canvas of muted pastels, transitioned from shades of soft blue to dusky lavender as the sun dipped below the horizon. The air carried a subtle chill, a gentle reminder that night was approaching. The world seemed to hold its breath in anticipation of what was to come. As Jason kissed you, you could sense a change in the atmosphere. The usual hustle and bustle of the day had quieted, replaced by a serene stillness. Trees, their leaves rustling softly, seemed to whisper secrets to one another, as if sharing the news of the impending rain. The first sign of the approaching drizzle was the faint scent of petrichor, that earthy aroma that arises when rain is on the way. It teased your senses, evoking memories of rainy days and childhood adventures.
The sky, once serene, now displayed subtle hints of transformation. Wispy clouds gathered overhead, their edges tinged with a delicate shade of gray. The colors of the world became more vivid as if nature itself was intensifying its beauty before the rain arrived. In the distance, you could hear the distant rumble of thunder.
The soft pitter patter of rain filled your ears as the raindrops hit the ground. Rain slips between you and Jason's face, sliding into where your lips met, creating a salty taste that lingered in your mouth. Jason pulled away, looking up towards the sky as a soft drizzle fell onto the both of you. Jason closed his eyes, his head tilted upwards as the rain slid down his face.
He opened his eyes and he looked towards you and grinned. Your heart can't help but flutter at the sight of him, his black hair with that streak of white sticking to his forehead, slick with rain. You can feel your own hair getting wet in the soft drizzle, your clothes sticking to your back. How can Jason look so effortlessly stunning? Jason gave you a look and pulled you towards him, giving you another deep kiss. Your hand reached up to grasp at his wet hoodie for support, the other hand on his thighs as he kissed you deeply, his hand supporting the back of your head, pulling you closer to him.
The kiss tasted of the earlier katsudon and the salty tang of rain. It was...wonderful. Jason slowly pushed you down until your back hit the wet picnic blanket. He straddled your hips, his knees on either side of your waist, his hands planted firmly on the space beside each side of your head as he hovered over you, smirking slightly. You tug his hoodie down to kiss him, not caring that the rain was getting heavier by the second.
"Ow!" You yelped as a raindrop hit your eye. Jason chuckles and kissed the corner of your eye. "We should get home," he says as he got off you. "Don't want you to be sick." He extended a hand and lifted you off the ground. You and Jason quickly packed up everything and ran to the car, slamming the door shut when both of you got in and laughed.
Let's just say that the both of you caught a cold and were cuddled up in bed the next day. Not that you mind it though.

Brothel AU: Entertainer's Menu
Tumblr media
So my lovely, dear, bestest friend @flameroyalty is a very talented chef. I was talking to them about the Brothel AU and how much fun I've been having with it. They ALSO love making character-based menus. SO...
I've crafted the new lore that you can order a meal in the brothel normally, kinda like a restaurant hybrid situation. You can order certain items and it'll be discounted if you have the entertainer who helped craft the recipe.
So here's the top Entertainer's Menus!
RIDDLE Red Rose Chocolate tart with sliced strawberries, served with rose petals
SweetHearts Small tray of honey and cream macarons
Savor It Stuffed shitake mushrooms, rotating seasonally
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes, the fact one of Riddle's items are fucking mushrooms is hilarious to me)
LEONA Pride Chicken katsu curry, with rice
The Hunt A collection of meats, cheeses, nuts, and crackers
Triumph Hertzoggie, a pastry filled with jam and coconut
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Leona gives the leftover food from his skipped sessions to Ruggie)
JAMIL
Golden Baklava pastry filled warm spiced nuts
Mirage Chocolate creme brulee
Charmer Marinated curry chicken, with mango, rice, and coconut rice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Jamil actually uses cracking the brulee to break his clients out of their hypnosis)
VIL
Indulgence Dark chocolate brownie served with raspberry sauce (The sauce is presented in a very elaborate bottle)
Pursuit Blueberry mousse tart
Striking Smoked salmon with cucumber, capers, and dill
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The fact Vil's favorite food is SMOOTHIES upset Flame. But she made it WORK.)
AND SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE
YUU
Flight Vanilla Bean and lavender cupcakes topped with a variety of hand-blown sugar dragonflies
Luxury Mille Feuille with cookies and cream fillings
Spotted Black garlic ramen loaded with eggs and spicy marinated pork

✨🐾🍱🐾✨
Drew up my favorite and go-to lunch order.
Japanese Katsu Curry. Can be breaded chicken or pork cutlet. The curry sauce is commonly served over rice and often includes potato and carrot. Sliced flower shaped carrots floating on top of the curry and added broccoli on the side with sliced Japanese pickled ginger in the rice. 🍱✨

Kiyomizudera, Sannenzaka, and Ninenzaka
Today began at around 10am, where we showered and got ready for the day. Then we headed out to Kiyomizudera temple, which is my second time here but I wanted to show my sister around since she wanted to see the Temple and the surrounding Sannenzaka area. I appreciated the temple about the same as much as last time I went, and I enjoy this temple a lot because there are a decent amount of things to do at the temple, such as the Otowa waterfall and womb tunnel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pagodas are always really nice to see and we went down a different trail this time which led us to the smaller pagoda on the other side across from the main temple area. We were also able to walk up to a different temple, called “Seikan-ji” which was a lot less busy and nearly empty. We also got to see a great view from the top. On the way up to this temple we also coincidentally ran into two other UF students who are on the study abroad trip that started right after mine ended. They also happened to be friends/roommates with my buddy Rich who I met on my study abroad trip. Pretty wild coincidence running into them, and it really makes the world feel much smaller.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the temple, we walked down through the Sannenzaka area which is always fun, albeit a bit crowded. We even got to see the Yasaka Pagoda, which I am surprised that I didn’t see last time I was here with my class.
Tumblr media
Following this, we went on a hunt for some place to eat lunch, it took a bit to try and find a place as it seems that there’s only really dessert shops and kimono rentals in this area. We stopped along the way at a fresh fruit juice shop, where I ordered a grape/lemon juice and I was a bit taken aback to see that she blended up an entire lemon wedge - rind and all. I was not a big fan of that as it made the drink far too bitter for my liking. After some walking we stumbled upon a random restaurant called “Ivory” which had some lunch specials that caught our eye. The employees were very nice and saw us standing outside pondering if we would be allowed to eat there as the sign outside said they closed in 8 minutes, but an elderly employee came out and told us to come in to eat. I ordered a pork rice bowl, which was essentially deluxe gyudon with a pretty tasty soup on the side.
Tumblr media
After lunch we walked back to the Kyoto Kawaramachi area near our hotel and got on the subway to make our way over to the Kyoto Pokémon Center. I think this is my 4th or 5th Pokémon center that i’ve been to so far in Japan and i’m honestly hoping to get those numbers up!! I was excited to see this Pokémon center as I am a big fan of Lugia and Ho-oh and this one in particular has statues of them in the store.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following our shopping at the Pokémon center, we headed back over to the Kawaramachi area again and hit up a few stores near here before heading back to the hotel to rest for a bit. Once we were re-energized we headed out to walk around Teramachi street and view the local shops. We had a lot of fun window shopping and getting some new clothes from Uniqlo. Once we had built up an appetite we stopped by Coco Ichibanya to grab some katsu curry (i know i’ve had it 2 days in a row i can’t help myself), since Michelle wanted to try it as she is also a fan of Japanese curry.
Tumblr media
After dinner, we lounged around the hotel a bit before deciding to go to Round One to play some Maimai. After the first few rounds Michelle was hooked and having a blast attempting the expert level songs which was a lot of fun. After this we hit up Rainbow karaoke, where we then spent the next 2 hours there singing songs and overall having a good time. That mostly concludes our night and I look forward to another fun day tomorrow.

Brought mum to the coffee shop near my new place for lunch. Got my Teh Siew Dai (milk tea less sweet) and Kopi O (coffee black) for mum while she went to the economy rice stall to select her dishes. She chose a piece of braised pork belly with preserved vegetables (梅菜扣肉), omelette and a herbal chicken drumstick for her Economy Rice (菜饭).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took the western food option and ordered the Happiness Plate which consisted of three pieces of fried chicken, toast, fries and coleslaw. I love the well-seasoned and juicy chicken though they are on the small side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On behalf of sis, I got her the Chicken Katsu Don from Maruhachi Donburi & Curry. I think this is the last time I ordered from them as they close this branch not long after this.

Suehiro Mini, 642 N Broadway, Ste 5, Los Angeles (Chinatown), CA 90012
Tumblr media
Suehiro’s location in Little Tokyo was considered a legacy business. It was open for over 50 years, but they were evicted and closed earlier this year. Fortunately, they were able to find a new location. They also opened Suehiro Mini in 2019.
Suehiro specializes in Japanese comfort food in a casual, diner-like setting. The Mini suits the location, which only has a four small tables and a counter with seating. The menu includes ramen, udon, soba, and rice dishes (katsu don, oyako don, unagi don, curry rice). The lunch time menu offers daily specials (during weekdays, 11 AM – 3 PM) like curry rice, ramen, and udon priced under $10.
Katsu curry rice ($16.50 + $2 for hot/spicy) with your choice of chicken or pork katsu on curry rice, with pickles and a cup of miso soup. If you want to make it spicy, it’s $1.50 - $2, depending on the spice level). The spice mix they add is housemade. Brown rice is also available for $1. I chose the pork katsu. The portion was generous enough that I had leftovers. The katsu had a golden panko crust and wasn’t greasy. The pork was thicker than other places and still moist. The curry was different – not as sweet or thin. It had bits of carrots, onion, potato, and mushroom and was quite thick. It also had a reddish tint, probably from the spice mix they added. It was different – a bit grainy, but flavorful and actually spicy. The housemade pickles were small and sweet; they added a nice crunch. The miso soup was nice and light – no tofu in it, but plenty of miso.
While Suehiro is in a strip mall, they do not validate parking in the lot. Also, they no longer offer the bathroom for customer use.
4 out of 5 stars

It's finally cold in Texas
We're expecting a huge freeze with icy roads and the works this week.
I have a katsu-don for dinner, I have a beer, and I got stuff to make curry at some point, too. I still have cookies. And I plan to spend some time writing for Physical Paradox while we're snowed/iced in this week!!
And maybe after I've demolished my pork cutlet rice bowl if I don't fall asleep immediately 😂
I'm also watching food anime because it's incredible and DUDE I JUST WANNA EAT ALL THE JAPANESE FOOD. ALL OF IT. ANOTHER LEVEL RUINED ME EVEN FURTHER BECAUSE RINKO LOVES okonomiyaki dan sobayaki and oyako-dons and I JUST WANNA EAT LIKE RINKO, OKAY? GOJO, BUY ME FOOD, TOO 😭😭😭

July 29- Free day in Kaohsiung
Today I got to sleep in a little bit, at least compared to the last few days. I got up and relaxed a bit watching a new show, and then made it to breakfast in the last hour it was served. Breakfast was pretty good, I enjoyed the variety of coffee and they also had the bean curd that I really liked from the last hotel. Sabrina also pointed out the Zongzi, which I have never tried before but I really enjoyed. It was made with sweet sticky rice, pork, nuts, and eggplant all wrapped and steamed in a bamboo leaf.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that Sabrina and I were planning on relaxing until a Frieren (the show I have been watching) pop up shop across the street opened up but decided that we wanted to do something first. So we went across the bridge to the outlet mall, and I picked out new high top Adidas sneakers that have a koi fish pattern on them. By the time we were done the other shop had opened up and both of us bought the first volume of the book in Chinese, to read when we gain enough fluency. We also decided to go around to a few bookstores and took the metro to the Kaohsiung Cultural Center station. Unfortunately, like many other museums in the city, the Cultural Center was closed on Mondays. So we continued to visit multiple bookstores in the area. We were looking for more Chinese learning books as we got a few yesterday. I was happy to end up finding some hanzi writing practice grid paper, as it is really difficult to find where I live or online for a reasonable price. Eventually we went to a cafe for lunch, we each got a drink, mine a honey latte and it was amazing, and we split an order of fries as well as pork katsu curry udon. The cafe was named after space, so the curry was dyed black and glittered.
Tumblr media
After that we decided to walk back to the hotel as well as stop at a bakery for some little things for dinner. We ended up walking around a mall and finding a delicious strawberry filled “supreme croissant” that we split. I have been on the hunt for some reusable tea steepers and was looking all over for them, even Poya did not have them. Sadly because of our detour there we got stuck walking the last leg of our trip in the pouring rain before settling in our hotel room for the night.
