it just occurred to me that the reason rex hates hats could be that as a legion cyberdog, he was trained to react aggressively toward ncr troops who typically wear helmets and/or legion officers wearing helmets

diamant’s framing in his supports // literally no one asked

there’s something here with diamant and how he’s framed in his supports with various characters, based on this post talking about the red stripe in his hair being an “imperfection“. i wanted to see if, in his supports, his framing showing/hiding the red stripe in his hair signified anything regarding how genuine he is, his intentions, etc.

so, like any sane person, i sat and obsessively watched collector togami’s video on all of his supports and made a ranking list.

this isn’t comprehensive, and you could argue some of these conversations have more/less framing of his left/right side than i’ve put here, but a lot of his supports have him framed on his right side, especially citrinne’s support. he talks specifically talking about the brodian nobility, and it’s only when he’s talking to her and apologises for the mess (showing his true intent, if you will, compared to saying what others want to hear, to so speak) where he’s framed on his left.

you’d think alfred’s support is a little odd, but if you think about the fact that brodia has a non-aggression pact with brodia (and thus, should be more friendly compared to solm, of which is in direct geographical opposition to brodia) and elusia (literally waging wars on elusia), it makes a lot of sense that he would be less guarded, so to speak, around alfred. it helps that alfred’s design is more... triangle-y than the others, which i want to bring in a connection about how triangles are the strongest shape... (yes i know i’m not good at character design don’t @ me lmao). also alfred, in general, just Is Like That in getting people to lower their guards around him, so it sort of tracks.

what’s incredibly interesting to me is that, in his ivy c-support, he’s framed with his left side to the camera, and yet his face is hidden from view when he tells ivy that “it’s okay if you don’t want the courage talisman rock thing i’m gifting you” where, throughout the rest of the conversation he’s been rather chill talking with ivy and 100% empathises with the whole “i have to keep appearances for my country“ thing. later, when he talks about how “ivy doesn’t owe him anything because brodia has a lot to answer for“, he’s fully facing the camera and you get a better glimpse of the red streak in his hair.

what’s also veeeeeery interesting is his b-support with alcryst; throughout the entire conversation, he’s been winded from practicing with mages and alcryst comes up and talked to him, freaks out a little, and then diamant finally tells him “hey so uh. i might be afraid of mages“ but ends up concluding the conversation of “it’s fine tho don’t worry abt it :)“ and just fucks off to go back to talk with the mages. we see his model turn around so that his left side flashes past the camera as he walks away. otherwise, he’s framed to his right facing the camera at all times

in his conversation with framme, the camera does this neat thing where, when he talks about his brodian ancestors and the founding of brodia, it suddenly cuts to framing him on his right side where the camera had solely been focused on his left, showing off the red streak in his hair. when he talks openly about the warmongering of brodia against elusia, he’s framed with his left side by the camera. pretty neat, eh?

also, because of his saying “let’s just call [my study habits] good enough“, i’d like to headcanon him as kind of a bad student, or at least one that doesn’t have study skills come to him easily. he definitely drilled himself in “normal“ ways of studying, but because it just... doesn’t click as well for him as it probably should, he considers himself “pretty good“ or “good enough“.

his s-support with alear is also pretty neat in that when he walks into frame, you only see his right side when he asks “is this a good time to talk?“, but then the camera switches so you see his left side through the rest of his conversation with alear. in his cg, the red streak in his hair is more vibrant than any other piece of official art we’ve been given of him in promotional material, but it’s still not very obvious.

so what does this say about diamant’s intentions? well, i’d like to say that he does try to be genuine/unguarded. in very support we see the red stripe in his hair in plain view at least once. in some supports it’s more obviously showcased than others. even in veyle’s support chain, he’s framed facing the camera head on, even if he’s not being fully unguarded, so you get to see a lot more of the red stripe. he’s letting his guard down, as much as he allows himself to.

but overall, he’s a really guarded person. he doesn’t tend to let others in aside from alear (who is the divine dragon and also technically his commanding officer and also Literally God) and alfred (who just has this way to get others to lower their guard, or at least, throws others who do have their guard up for a loop when he’s so darn genuine all the time). it makse sense given his archetypes, but it’s interesting in how the camerawork reinforces this.

it’s a little sad, though, that he doesn’t let his guard down around alcryst very much, if we take this interpretation as how his relationships with other people go...

The Lone Wanderer (Al) and Dogmeat the wasteland mutt!

She canonically in my stuff has two puppies, which Al, because while he is a medic, he is not a vet, thought she was just fat/had worms until they appeared.

This is kind of my version of fo3's Dogmeat, i realize in the game, dogmeat is a boy dog, but I always bc of the fact puppies can appear in the cave of vault 101 just been like "omg what if girl".

Al doesn't really know much about dogs in general, but when he realized Dogmeat wasnt going to stop following him around, he was pretty fucking stoked about it.

Courier Six (Deano) and his trusted horse Rosemary + Rex the cyberdog!

When Deano found out the Kings dog was sick, being someone who cares deeply for animals (the health of them, the training, the care, etc), agreed to find him a new brain w.o any questions. In Deano's ideal future, he has 6 dogs, so he very much enjoys his time traveling with Rex.

Rosemary is a former working draft from a ranch near the Rio Grande Valley. She has been with Deano since before he was a courier (around 8 years). She loves to steal hats off peoples heads, much to Rex's delight and everyone elses annoyance.

She is very desensitized because of the life they have lived but terrified of motorcycles.

A fun fact: She has killed multiple people.

He teaches Rex how to handshake for iguana bits despite the much touted myth "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". Yes, he shows everyone this.

Also, not shown here are the various stray dogs and other animals he picks up/saves along his travels much to (sometimes) the dismay of his companions.

Some of the reasons I think Stolas is on the spectrum

(finally getting around to popping this on up too).

He has special interests & misses social cues while being happy in them.

It not really normal to be happy reading legal documents when someone's life is on the line. But Stolas is just vibing that he gets to help with his love of words. Yay him!

Stims

He stims when both happy & sad to help regulate his emotions.

His happy stims are:

*clapping when he gets to take Via to the circus, because he thinks they can enjoy it together.

He also does this with contract reading.

*He hopps up and down when his dad gives him a new books. Also when getting ready for his date with Blitz. He's just so happy he needs to hop.

His sad stims:

*are bang his head again and again about the engagement.

*He self sooves with chest strokes when Blitz says his outfit is too much.

*He hand rubs and wringing his hat when worrying about Via in LA.

Special interests

The there's that Stolas info dumps on the playdate with Blitz all about his books and about plants.

Stolas also feels he has to explain why Blitz horse joke was soo funny. And why's it so funny?

Because it's accurate. I love his little cutie.

But he's also kept up his love of plants as a major hobby now he's an adult. When most people tend to swap interests as they age.

Side bar

His comfy resting hand position is t rex hands. This tends to be an autistic thing. Also works well as an owl.

Sensory issues

Stolas appears to also have some sensory issues too. When his a child he appears to be struggling when Mr Butler touches his hair out of nowhere.

But he's fine with Blitz doing it when they're kissing. This shows a lot of trust between them.

I think it's likely sensory issues are the reason why he swaps into his comfy, very old robe, as often as he can too.

Specific communication issues

While Stolas is very good at some communication styles, he's pretty bad at others.

When the audience think it's another joke about wanting to keep a puppy; he immediately knows Blitz's is panicking the studio. And tries to get to him.

However he doesn't get that his dirty talk is way OTT, because he's mostly likely coping it from the erotica. Not lived experience.

Speaking of erotica.

There's obviously a rule that reading is allowed at the diner table. But Stolas doesn't get This book isn't appropriate to read there.

Another rule he appears to follow more rigidly than most probably would; is that when you get an appointment you wait till you're seen.

Ozzie's ment to met Stolas at noon, but doesn't make it till 4 pm because of problems with work.

Stolas is only a couple of days out of the hospital and is probably feeling horrible.

But he sticks around a minimum of 4 hours to be seen, because he feels he has to.

(I'm assuming he also got taught you turn up earlier rule, but this just a guess).

Stolas genuinely wants to do something Via will enjoy, and he's fine taking Via to stylish occult when she asks.

But didn't get it till she's crying and sad that she wasn't enjoying Loo Loo Land.

"I take it you are.. not having fun." She needs to spell it out. Sarcasm isn't easy for him to interrupt.

His was obviously thought taking his daughter and his lover out to a theme park would be a good way to introduce them.

It's the sort of plot that only works on a novellas. And that's probably when he got it from. (Probably worked great for Gabrielle and Alejandro).

These are examples of him Masking, and not understanding why it didn't work.

Stella's being dangerous to be around = take Via out somewhere for her to have fun to blow off steam.

Wanting your lover and daughter to like eachother = ask IMP to tag along as the completely unnecessary bodyguards.

He doesn't really get that flirty with his affair partner, in front of his kid while going through a divorce isn't a good idea...

He also struggles to understand when his flirting comes off as condescending too. With "ittybity imps like you" or calling him Blitzy in public. He's most likely him coping language from other goeita.

But Stolas is very good at knowing when knowing when Blitz is fine being picked up, when to reassure him with face stokes, or how to calm Blitz down from a panic attack in just a few seconds.

So it's not that he's just never learnt these skills. It's just that some communication skills are harder for him than others.

But if you disagree that fine. 🙂 I just wanted to put down some of my thoughts why I think he could be.

after watching the finale of never stop blowing up and the final adventuring party i think what strikes me the most about what made this season so fun was that it was a celebration of all the people in the dome's ability to have a good fucking time. the genre and the props and covering brennan in dirt were all just vehicles to take that cast and be like okay! you're going to spend 20 hours having nothing but fun. and whatever brennan says that makes you laugh the hardest is where we're going to stay and there's a t-rex with a cowboy hat and big titties because that makes HIM laugh and he's here to have a good time TOO. and i think that's beautiful

Someone explore Bad Batch Actor AU with me in what kind of bloopers there would be and set shenanigans:

-Omega accidentally breaks the lever opening the brig, she tried to awkwardly put it back

-Tech keeps accidentally breaking the Marauder steering wheel off when he does the drifting turns

-many dance parties during scene setups

-Echo misses the scomp port and puts it through the prop wall instead, he tries to keep playing the scene as normal

-Crosshair keeps making Hunter laugh during serious scenes

-Hunter keeps ruining the finale scenes by hugging Crosshair instead of his actual lines

-Echo falling in the water was absolutely not planned but they kept it in cause it was funny

-Rex tripped like 5 times trying to film him walking into and out of fog

-Wrecker knocking his head on the pipe at Saleucami was unplanned and they kept it in, Rex was laughing on the sides telling the set designers that he was right about them placing pipes too low

-Wrecker stomping the elevator down was unplanned as it actually did get stuck

-Palpatine rose into the senate with a milkshake in hand for one take

-They play pranks on Rampart making him laugh in his scenes

-Omega and any of the Batch lounging on set during scene setup in sunglasses

-Cad Bane letting Omega wear his hat between takes

-Wrecker accidentally held Omega up too high during the pod rescue scene and hit her head on the set ceiling making everyone laugh

-Someone’s mask fell off in the middle of a scene during Ordo Moon filming, they immediately went into over exaggerated dying

The Batch + Life In Retirement On Pabu

Slightly AU: Tech lives, though he’s got a prosthetic leg as a result of his fall.

Hunter’s fashion sense swiftly nose-dives into that of every dad at an amusement park. Don’t ask why that happened so quickly. It just did. He’s rocking cargo shorts, corny shirts, and comfy shoes like they’re going out of style. (Crosshair gave him a tactical fanny pack as a joke. Hunter wears it all the time with all due seriousness.) It takes years for the rest of the Batch to get him to branch out from that.

Tech alternates between his space jeans and sweatpants, depending on his mood. The sweatpants were necessary when he first got his prosthetic leg during his post-Eriadu recovery process. He too starts wearing ironic shirts, but somehow makes them more fashionable than Hunter.

Crosshair has the widest selection of island-appropriate hats and sunglasses anyone has ever seen. No one knows how he gets so many, and he’s certainly not going to tell on himself. Omega is the reason why he has so many floral-print shirts though.

Wrecker discovers overalls and pretty much lives in them. No less than half of his overalls have the legs cut off at the knees. This is more practical than fashionable though. He’s just so big that he has a hard time finding pants that fit him at the waist and have a long enough pant leg.

Omega finally gets to decide on her preferred style now that they’re permanently in one place. She still wears a lot of hand-me-downs from her brothers though. Omega spends a lot of time helping out around the island, so she needs clothes that no one minds her getting dirty or ruined when she’s working on a project.

Echo has an extensive collection of sarongs he stores on Pabu that he only busts out when he’s visiting. Rex knows not to ask Echo to do anything if he sees him wearing one. (Visiting the family on Pabu is the only time Echo gets a break or a chance to relax and destress.)

Batcher gets a pretty collar and a massively cushy bed. Someone starts bringing her sweaters to wear when she gets cold. (Crosshair is the leading suspect. Hunter won’t confess to anything.)

Wrecker has an extremely extensive cookbook and recipe collection. He picks up cooking as a hobby post-retirement, and he is really good at it. Given the diversity of people and species on Pabu, Wrecker spends a lot of time learning different recipes from across the galaxy.

Crosshair and Wrecker go fishing together pretty regularly. They don’t say a lot during those times, but that’s okay. Crosshair enjoys spotting where the best fishing areas are. Wrecker just sits back and lets his baby brother take the lead on this. (He brings snacks and a cooler of drinks to keep them fed and hydrated when they decide to make a day of it.)

Tech upgrades the Archeum to improve how things are stored and protected. Omega helps out. They spend a lot of time adding details about the specific items housed therein, including any historical details, cultural relevance, and any notes about how best to handle the items. They’re working with Phee on an oral history component to the Archeum as well, so that the stories about the items in the Archeum and the residents of Pabu are preserved.

Crosshair makes hammocks and strings them up around the island in random places. He says it’s so that he can take a nap wherever and whenever. Really, it’s just his contribution to life on Pabu. (Plus, making hammocks were good physical therapy when he got his new prosthetic hand.)

Omega instituted regular family game night. (Echo is expected to be there as his work with Rex allows.) Depending on their moods, Batch family game night is either extremely chill or extremely cutthroat. There is no in-between.

Wrecker is the first one to “move out” of the shared family house. It’s only because he built an upgraded kitchen with a huge family room attached. The shared family home couldn’t accommodate those upgrades. His house is two houses down and is still where everyone eats dinner almost every night.

Tech moved out second. He moved in with Phee. It was a combination of their evolving romantic relationship and him wanting to be closer to the island repair shop that he runs in his spare time. (Tech became the island’s mechanic once he recovered from the injuries he sustained on Eriadu.)

Hunter develops a massive green thumb. The family shared house (which eventually is just him, Omega, and Crosshair full-time) is overflowing with plant life. He built and maintains a greenhouse for Wrecker to grow speciality plants for his cooking.

Echo usually crashes with Wrecker when he comes to visit. Wrecker renovated part of his house to be prosthetic leg friendly and got a really comfy recliner for Echo. Crosshair put in a hammock for Echo in the backyard.

Crosshair, Hunter, and Omega go on early morning runs together. It’s their bonding time.

Tech upgraded the whole family’s prosthetic limbs many times over the years. Hunter made a point of keeping the older models as a reminder of how far they’ve come since they retired.

Batcher is the most spoiled dog on the island. She adores the attention and winds up becoming the unofficial therapy dog for every new resident and refugee who finds their way to Pabu.

(Okay so it's my birthday and somehow I'm sharing it with at least 4 of my friends and some random kindergarten children and I think it's really funny. It feels like everybody has their birthday today.)

A non-exhaustive list of my favorite types of little kids: 1. Little boys who clearly spend a LOT of time with their grandmas/ great-grandmas and say things like "Oh my stars!" and "I will take dainty bites" (for some reason, this type of kid also seems o exclusively wear, like, sports and military themed clothing and have one of those weirdly aggressive little-boy names like Rifle or Rowdy or Butcher.) 2.  Little girls who love and cherish spooky things like skeletons, ghosts, and bugs and treat them like doll babies 3. Kids who proudly exclaim, "I did it!" or "mommy will love this!" while holding up the most hilariously wretched abomination of a project you've ever seen. Honestly just admire the self-esteem. The hand-eye coordination will come later. 4. Kids who find a Good Stick or Big Leaf while outdoors and become inseparable from it, delightedly showing it off to passers-by 5. Very Serious Infants who always seem to be concentrating intently on something and seem to have the weight of the world on their shoulders. 6. Well-traveled sophisticated kids who tell you about eating lavender-flavored gelato in Florence, skiing in Switzerland, and going to their classmate's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese with equal levels of excitement because at the end of the day, they're still just kids 7. Extremely chaotic children who tell you bizarre stories punctuated by fits of giggles that make absolutely no sense. "Once upon a time there was a cow... who turned into a BANANA HEAD!!! And he... had a BUTT! And then there was... there was monkeys and T-Rexes everywhere! And a ninja! I'm going to play on the slide now, okay?" 8. Kids who tell you "facts" that are obviously made up ("Did you know that elephants are the biggest kind of dogs?”), or who tell you how to do basic things because they are used to people teaching them stuff and just assume that's how people interact 9. Kids who get so excited about holidays (including minor holidays like other people's birthdays or St. Patrick's Day) that they get overwhelmed and need to take a nap and end up missing the celebrations anyway. 10. Little toddlers who wear those coats/hats with little ears attached so they look like tiny teddy bears toddling around parking lots.

Costumes

Yes, I know it's halloween and I tried to write angst but I couldn't do it.

So enjoy this bit of Halloween fluff instead.

“Don’t laugh.” 

James is clearly trying very hard to keep a straight face. “I’m not laughing.” 

Regulus scowls at his husband. “Why on Earth am I dressed as a discount Dolly Parton right now, James?” 

“Don’t act like you don’t know what costume it is. You know exactly what costume it is.” James’ resolve falters and his lips curl up in amusement. 

Yes, Regulus does know what costume it is. He is currently wearing blue jeans with cow-print chaps, a white and yellow top, and a red cowgirl hat complete with a fake red plait that’s fetchingly draped over his left shoulder.   

“Why do you get to be Woody and I’m stuck with the frilly yellow fabric?” Regulus walks over to the mirror next to the wardrobe and glares at his reflection as he tweaks the cuffs on his ridiculous sleeves. 

James isn’t put off though it seems as he comes to stand behind him, his smile wide now. “If it helps, you look very cute in cow-print.” 

Regulus rolls his eyes. “Are you telling me you have a thing for cowboys now, Potter?” 

James laughs lightly as he wraps his arms around Regulus’ chest and his own hands subconsciously move to hold them. He can’t help himself. James Potter and his strong arms have always been his weakness. Well, one of them anyway. 

“Nah I have a thing for you,” James bends down to kiss his cheek, his next words low in his ear, “although now that you mention it, the chaps…” 

Regulus rolls his eyes. “Keep it in your pants, Potter, we’ve got places to be.” 

As if on cue, the bedroom door is flung open and the world’s most adorable Buzz Lightyear comes bounding in. “Daddy you said you’d be ten minutes and it’s definitely been way more than that!” 

James lets go of Regulus’ chest, but keeps his right arm wrapped around his husband’s waist as he turns to face their son. 

“Sorry Harry. I was ready in ten minutes but your papa was taking his time as usual.” 

Regulus hits him lightly in the stomach. “Maybe if I didn’t have to figure out how to pin my hair up so it didn’t show under the wig, we’d be leaving on time.” 

James nods. “It does look good, love. Don’t you think so Harry?” 

Harry nods too, a mirror image of his father. “You look just like Jessie! She’s my favourite you know? Well, after Buzz.” 

And how could Regulus do anything but melt at that comment? Because this is the reason he agreed to the ridiculous outfit- his son’s request for them to dress as his favourite characters from his favourite movie. 

Harry is and always will be his biggest weakness. 

Regulus finally smiles now, fully and properly, and moves to kneel down in front of the grinning six year old, adjusting the helmet that is slightly wonky on his head. “Buzz is my favourite too.” 

“Really?”

“Absolutely. How could he not be?” 

“Exactly! Daddy says that his favourite is Rex.” 

“Yes well Daddy is wrong as usual.” 

“Hey!” Regulus turns to his husband’s mildly hurt facial expression. 

“Two against one.” 

“We win!” Harry exclaims and James’ face immediately shifts back to a smile. He scoops Harry up, careful not to damage his wing in the process. 

“I guess we’ll have to watch it later to really decide a winner, won’t we?” 

Harry looks at Regulus who is now standing next to them. “Can we, Papa?” His voice is brimming with excitement 

“Let’s see how we feel after trick or treating, yeah?”

Harry thinks on this for a second before nodding. “Okay.” 

“Speaking of which, we’d better get going before all the good sweets are taken,” James says as he puts Harry down. “Why don’t you go and grab your bucket and we’ll be out in a second?” 

Harry furrows his brow and Regulus speaks, “I promise I won’t take forever this time.” 

“Okay,” Harry says, easily convinced, and he rushes back out of the bedroom. 

James turns to Regulus, his smile soft and his eyes glinting with the same joy that he just saw written across their son’s face. “Are you ready?” 

And as Regulus takes one last look at himself in the mirror he no longer sees a stupid cowgirl costume that his husband made him wear. He sees a stupid cowgirl costume that belongs to his son’s second favourite Toy Story character. And while the former may not have been enough of a reason for him to pull on a pair of leather boots and go outside to be seen by the general public, the latter definitely is. 

So he answers with a nod of his head and a tone more resolute than he ever thought it would be under the given circumstances. “Let’s do this.” 

“To infinity and beyond?” 

“Don’t push it, Potter.”
