Recently had a blast in London with some lovely Strikophiles. Took lots of pictures and thought I would share here the ones where I can remember why I took them. 😂 I will add book quotes as time permits. Please correct me if you think I am wrong because it was a full day.

Hi Daphne! I’ll be in London during the cusp of June/July. Where should I hit up for good deals on makeup/fragrances (I.e. covent garden Boots? Superdrug?) Not sure if selfridges is having a sale but I’ve been dying to get my hands on Robert Piguet’s Fracas.

I can't say for much for makeup but your standard Boots, Superdrugs, Harrods Beauty are great! I would be on the look out for Charlotte Tilbury classes where you can learn which makeup suits you can you get a cash back to spend on their products ( aka its free) . If you have time please make a stop at the Face Gym and lemme know how it is!

For perfumes however, I do have more reccomendations:

For Arabic perfumes, Al Baraka is well known for having everything for decent prices. It has become popular on tiktok so not sure how that has impacted the prices. Another option is Al Arabiya which is nearby so you can stop at both whilst there. Arabian Oud Oxford street is a more high end alternative.

In terms of British houses, you have the flagship store for Penhaligons (Luna is a gorgeous summer scent!). You also have Ormonde Jayne,Roja Parfums and Floris ( Would recommend Floris mouthwash ).

For a niche curated selection head to Jovoy in Mayfair which carries some of the aforementioned brands and others as well. If you wanna go even more niche, Bloom Perfumery is a great option.

(Also obviously Harrods Beauty carries a lot of your common well known perfumer brands like Kurkdjian and Diptyque )

Fragrances I think Catwoman would wear…

Dark Is Night by Henry Rose

My first pick for our leather clad femme fatale is this two note fragrance by the brand Henry Rose. It is deep, it is woody and it is sexy. It’s also very simple with its only notes being vanilla bean and patchouli. This brand is a clean brand, meaning that it is safe for the environment and safe for the wearer, there are absolutely no harsh chemicals used in any of their products as their philosophy is to be transparent, safe and efficient with the products they offer. They are EWG (Environmental working group) verified. I definitely recommend getting the samples before considering a full bottle, as this brand is expensive. Fun fact, this is Michelle Pfeiffer’s perfume brand. I didn’t choose this just because this is a request for Michelle Pfeiffer’s 1992 rendition of catwoman, but because the name of this fragrance is very fitting for Gotham. All the scents are no fuss and simple and great for layering. Their simplicity is why I also chose this for catwoman. If you’re an anti-hero on the prowl in the dead of night doing illegal things, you don’t want to be caught now do you? This perfume sits close to the skin and is intimate but smells intoxicating enough that you’re sure to make a lasting impression on whoever gets close enough to you to catch a whiff. I’d categorise this as a fall or winter scent, as it has an element of warmth and mystery but it’s not so overpowering where you can’t get away with it year round. It’s projection isn’t insane at all, it is very subtle but lasts a good while on the skin. So it has lasting power but the sillage isn’t insane. It’s perfect for a night out committing crimes and won’t leave a scent trail so that you aren’t caught. It’s stealthy and perfect for catwoman. This is her “mission” or “action mode” perfume. When she’s out on a heist or committing some other scandalous crime, or beating the shit out of people, she doesn’t want something so strong it’s distracting, y’know? She wants something that is almost undetectable to where she can’t be chased. But a girl’s still gotta smell sexy and this perfume is just that. The patchouli note gives it a spicy and woody air of mystique and the vanilla note in there is alluring and warm. It’s simple, it’s gorgeous, it’s effective and efficient, and efficient is what you gotta be if you’re always on the move. A 10/10 for Miss Kyle.

Roja Dove “H” The Exclusive by Roja Parfums

There were so many for the second choice that I was debating between, but I finally settled for this one. This is a unique choice, and is a harrod’s exclusive, though I am sad to report that this fragrance is in fact discontinued; however I will mention an exact affordable dupe of this later on. I just went with the more expensive choice because Catwoman has expensive taste. The reason why this perfume is a strange choice for her is because it does lean quite masculine, but as i always say, perfume is very personal and at the end of the day the gender a fragrance is targeted at doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it. It is credited as unisex but leans very masculine. The reason I decided to go for this though is because of that valerian note in it. Valerian is a plant that mimics the effects of catnip on some cats. There aren’t any perfumes with cat-nip as a note, but valerian is basically an alternative to it. It offers a calming and sedating effect to cats. Valerian root contains actinidine, a compound that acts as a stimulant for some cats. WITH THAT SAID, don’t go around spraying perfumes or essential oils or anything like that around your cats, please be wary of their health. A lot of cats are sensitive to scents and it may cause harm to them so please don’t read this post and then experiment on your cats. Just putting that out there as a disclaimer. Anyway, I feel Selina would adore this fragrance as one that provides her a sense of calm. I don’t think she would wear this in public, she would just wear it at home. Treats it as her relaxation or self care fragrance. Maybe she’ll apply it when she takes a shower or when she’s just lounging around her apartment. We all have a perfume like this, that we just wear in the comfort of our own homes. A lounge perfume. This is her lounge perfume, her lazy day perfume that still manages to make her feel luxurious. It makes her cats calm too, though she's cautious not to spray too much in the atmosphere. She just sort of dabs it gently on her pulse points. This fragrance is very green. Very natural and balmy. So the top notes are cypriol and gurjan balsam, they are very warm notes then that bergamot and valerian give it this calming quality, in the middle, we have notes consisting of rose, oregano, nutmeg, jasmine and geranium they make it soft and aromatic then the base has a bunch of woods, greens and resins that give it depth. The vetiver and patchouli notes in this especially give it this smokey warm pleasant feel. Everything about this perfume is very soothing and gives the impression of being inside of an apothecary. If you’re into meditation this is a good choice to dab on your wrists. I feel this is her go to scent for reducing stress. This is discontinued as i have mentioned before, but the dupe of this is Alpha Aoud by the Dua brand, which is the cheaper version of this exact scent, it also contains valerian in the ingredients and the bottle of the dupe has a big wild cat on it, which is fitting for catwoman as is the name “alpha” but I went with the expensive perfume because she is a lady with expensive taste, I however don’t doubt that Selina wouldn’t reach for the dupe either.

Lune Féline by Atlier Des Ors

Moving on to our third choice for Miss Selina Kyle, we have Lune Feline. All her perfume choices seem to carry a theme of sexy, smokey, woody and balmy. This one is no exception. It is a gourmand, but it’s a very elegant and grown up gourmand with woody elements. This fragrance is warmth and luxury in a bottle, it’s hyped in the fragrance community for a reason. The bottle is simple and sleek in design, kind of like her leather suit or even just a cat they are effortlessly sleek. The juice has gold flecks floating in it, which reflect beautifully in the sunlight or moonlight. It is described on the website as “Radiating seduction and temptation” and i mean, isn’t that so catwoman? It is inspired by the moon, hence the word “Lune” in the name. As with my first choice perfume “Dark is Night” i felt it’s only fair to keep consistent with this night theme and what better choice than Lune Feline, it gives very “Gotham.” I feel Selina would wear this to a formal event, a gala or ball, somewhere fancy where everyone is dressed formally and all the socialites and high society people in power would show up. She’d pair this seductive fragrance with a sleek black silk dress and an expensive diamond necklace. This perfume is straight up luxury and seduction. It’s sweet, it’s leathery, it’s woody, it’s warm. It entices. She would definitely wear this to stand out and be memorable for that special evening. Anyone who caught wind of her would definitely remember her or be mesmerised. This is 100% a winter or autumn perfume but it is not overwhelming in it’s sweetness. Like i said, she would wear this to a formal event that took place in the colder months i feel like? A winter ball or charity gala where all the wealthy people gather up. The top notes greet you with a spicy cardamon and cinnamon ( I adore these notes) and pink pepper. So we're starting off rather spiced and then we move to the middle notes where this fragrance gets that green woody soothing tone, many woody and green notes are accompanied by waxy ambergris and the basenotes have that sweet vanilla, gentle musk, and that peru balsam which really warms it up. It is sensual. Perfect for Selina.

The Bewitching Yasmine by Penhaligon’s

Lastly I saved the best for last, I’ve decided to go with this one. This is a wonderful oriental feminine perfume. It is ABSOLUTELY stunning! Another night time perfume. I am staying true to the dark and gritty gotham theme here, don’t you worry. This fragrance is sweet and smokey. It is another seductive and delicious scent and for sure the most mysterious scent on this list. The bottle too is absolutely exquisite and on brand for catwoman as the cap is the head of a panther. If like me, you adore a smokey element to your fragrance, this one delivers. The top notes are spicy cardamom and deep rich coffee, so already we mean business with that introduction. The middle notes are warm jasmine and fir, and the basenotes are rich tahitian vanilla, laotian oud and incense. The oud and incense at the base make this a smoke lover’s dream and the vanilla really gives it a sweetness, there is a rich boozy element in this too so if you love perfumes with boozy qualities this might be right up your alley. This is definitely what i would categorise as a perfume for a femme fatale, and Selina Kyle is just that. Meow! I think on this list at least this one is my favourite for sure, i think it is catwoman from the juice to the bottle design. As for when she’d wear this? Whenever she wants to feel in control. It is luxurious and the bottle is just so badass.

kinn: a tom ford guy. his go-to signature scent is oud which is a super fresh and sexy blended wood, but he'll spritz on some noir de noir or ombré leather on special occasions to get a boost in confidence to play the suave mafia boss. black orchid when he's feeling adventurous and just wants to feel a little extra sexy.

porsche: literally a ck one bitch. and the only reason he's using that and not whatever bargain body spray is bc yok gifted him a bottle after a joke that he looked like a calvin klein model. (vegas who can't stand it gifts him a bottle of elysium by roja parfums during his whole seduction scheme and kinn is like "why do you suddenly smell like a delicious pineapple cocktail?" and almost loses his mind when he finds out that porsche is unaware that he's wearing a $400/bottle perfume)

pete: loves to treat himself to a designer scent ever since he got a sweet paycheck for working as a bodyguard, but still doesn't like spending too much since he sends most of it to his grandma. his daytime work scent is prada l'homme bc he loves smelling like super luxurious fresh laundry (and earns him the reputation as the best smelling body guard), but the one he wears for outings and special occasions, and is his favourite to wear is la nuit de l'homme by ysl. it's spicy, it's sexy, but also fresh and a little sweet. perfect for the other side of him.

vegas: a niche fragrance slut. loves a difficult but magnetic scent. his "everyday vegas" scent is carlisle by parfums de marly which is tobacco-y and spicy apple scent that gives mysterious, expensive, and sophisticated (everything he wants to be seen as). the other side of the coin? wears black afgano by nasomatto, a woodsy cannabis fragrance that just screams "DANGER!" and makes you confused if you wanna run for safety or attach your face to his neck and start panting.

tankhun: toy boy by moschino. you know this man loves a fun unisex fragrance in a quirky bottle.

Wow I never thought I'd see an ARMY talk about NCT the way you did. What do you think of the group? You said you like their latest cb, what exceeded your expectation? If you have one who is your bias?

I usually check out every new release if I've got time to. Checked out Ay Yo and liked it. It's a dope track.

What I said is:

"For the first time in three years I am not completely disappointed. (Too bad SM Entertainment is sort of self-destructing right now.) Ay Yo is giving me everything the boys are capable of. And by 'the boys' I'm referring to Haechan, Mark, and Taeyong - that trio + Ten are the only people I care for (in a very neutral sense), in NCT. Chenle and Jaemin occasionally stand out. But the real star this comeback is the song. 2 Baddies was an atrocity that didn't need to exist, but Ay Yo sits just at the sweet spot between disorienting experimentation and anthem hit. When you see the boys perform it it only gets better... "

NCT is one of the more interesting projects out of SM in (1) its concept - NCT is the musical expression of Seoul, her culture; and (2) its medium of choice: hyper-pop and hip hop. NCT is a group significantly more interesting than SHINee or EXO. In theory, in my opinion. But until now, they really didn't live up to that hype. Again, my opinion.

But when I saw the dance practice for Ay Yo, I had to revisit that thought.

This dance practice video alone justifies the existence of this group. First of all, full kudos to Rie Hata for choreographing such an avant-garde and memorable routine. Next, the guys have to get their full credit. I haven't even bothered watching anything else they've released yet, I'm perfectly content just watching the dance practice over and over. That's how good they are.

My problem with NCT though (and honestly most SM-trained idols) is that, like a Roja parfum, performance quality doesn't last long. I know someone who attended that live performance that had Lucas disruptively dancing to a completely different song mid-performance. Like they saw that, in person. Can you just imagine what that is like? But I won't dwell on that, what I'd rather highlight is how much they've improved. They moved like a single unit from start to finish in Ay Yo. The entire performance is seamless, the attention to detail impressive, and they're all so into it. It's really cool and close to how insanely immersed BTS gets during a performance. This style of dance seems to work them into that almost trancelike state, and it suits them very well.

Haechan ties with Taeyong who ties with Ten who ties with Mark to be my favourites in NCT. I can't really speak to their characters, I don't watch them enough to comment, but I do think from a 'capability' standpoint, those four are in the top 10 male idols ever produced by SM. So, it was very gratifying seeing them improve even more this comeback.

The song is actually good too though, like I said, the bridge is a bit unfortunate. Jaehyun's verse too.

I hate bridges in SM songs. Generally. The bridge in an SM song exists to serve as a mood breaker and palette cleanser for the highlight of the song, which in Ay Yo is from timestamp: 2:57 to 3:35. A bridge should be something that redirects your focus, something that plays with the motif of the whole song, not introduce its own. Anyway, that's mostly my thing. I'm sure many people enjoy the abrupt switch ups mid-song, and sometimes I'm one of those people, but most times I'm not. It's so encouraging for me that Ay Yo is a song good enough even with that.

For the Anon who sent me an ask more tied to the mess happening at SM rather than my views on NCT, I'll get to your ask before long.
