Oh I just saw the video on your blog, Lily! Congratulations on the little guys!!!

Lileep are honestly such a delight to work with in general, especially when they're newly hatched! They're oh so silly, and i've had more lileep babies than I can count attempt to cling to my arms and take a nibble or two(Luckily they don't hurt too much hehe)

In the nursery wing when we have babies we usually keep them in a shallower tank until their roots come in so that they're not subject to the whims of the stronger currents of our larger tanks(Don't want them getting caught up against the filters or anything! It's much easier to guarantee their safety if they're in a controlled area)

I'm not sure what the currents are like in your aquarium- but if you have particularly strong currents you'll want to either keep a hold of them with your tentacles, or find a place with a calmer current for them to hang out.

It shouldn't take long for them to grow in their roots that let them properly cling to rocks, and from that point on they should be a-okay on the mobility front (or lack thereof hehe)

I'm sure you have diet handled, but you'll need to make sure to keep meals small enough for them to swallow, you may need to break up a fish fry into smaller chunks.

bsd pokemon au where odasaku had a crobat and upon his death he gives it to dazai with his "be on the side that saves people" speech. the crobat absolutely has all of odasaku's mannerisms when it comes to dazai.

but here's the thing: the agency thinks that the crobat is dazai's, so they think 'oh he can't be all that bad'.

dazai's pokemon is actually an unevolved buneary that he's had for close to 7 yrs whose frustration is at max power.

crobat is the only pokemon dazai takes care of as he sees the pokemon as an extension of odasaku.

had this one since 2016, and been on homebrew since 2020 - original 3ds got fucked up real bad. fun notes

n3dsXL with a 32g SD and a few fun quirks - mainly, the bottom screen replacement which lost me a working home button and gained me a new stylus that the repair guy gave me. i use a homebrew app to remap ZL+ZR to the home button, but it doesn't work in DS mode.. sad!

the slash folder is homebrew, the asterisk is system apps, and the P is every picross game - i also have a shit ton of pokemon games on cartridge, alongside some misc games

theme is randomized from a small set

also functions as a solid mp3 player that gets me thru bus rides - i have a bunch of songs downloaded to the SD, mostly ultrakill OST and a few breakcore albums because the music needs to be loud enough to drown out the bus sounds.

this is seriously SUCH a cool ds both on the outside and inside. things that grabbed my attention: wall-e sticker, trans axolotl swimming through star sticker, rhythm heaven megamix (based), and the flipnote frogs kissing.

2011 Haylor Timeline

Timeline Tag We don’t know the whole story. Harry and Taylor have never said when they met or started dating, often assumed to have met At the March 2012 Kids Choice Awards, because it was the first time we saw them together. more.

A source close to Taylor later said to Vanity Fair he had chased her for a year, before the started dating, before he kissed Emily Ostily on the 21 April 2012 and Taylor posted about infidelities to Instagram on 23 April 2012 (they cannon met 24 days earlier). They were in the same city and locations throughout 2011. In 2014 Taylor told Rolling Stone:

"People think they know the whole narrative of my life, I think maybe that line is there to remind people that there are really big things they don’t know about."

As Taylor said to Time Magazine in 2023 and Harry said to Howard Stern in 2019 it's not in their interests for a new relationship to be public before they are solid.  In Harry's words 'it's never benefited me' for a relationship to be public. In 2011 people were sent death threats for having dinner with Harry.

12 December - X factor semi final, 1D third, Syco signed One Direction for £2 million, each boy was only paid an initial £8,000. Maybe signed on the 13th.

13 December - Jake not at Taylor’s birthday, in January announce broke up in December. It was 7 weeks.

4 January - Taylor seen in LA on the 5th January then not again for a month.

25-30 January 1D fly to Los Angeles. The Sun reported they were in US meeting writers and producers to start recording. It's likely they first met here.

5 February - Taylor seen for first time in a month, in LA, wearing the Key necklace in LA. It later appeared in the I knew you were trouble music video (4:45) and was sold as merchandise, there was a key for Fearless too, but it stopped after this.

19 February - 9 April; X-Factor live tour. TS tour break 20 & 21, 20th was X Factor O2 show.

1 March - Harry left Manchester hotel and arrived Sheffield

3 March - Harry pokemon white/black

17 - 30 March - Speak Now in Europe. Taylor wrote ATW

15 March - one direction Birmingham show, fans see boys leaving on the 16th then have 4 day weekend where he is not seen.

16 March - Taylor's Lover Journal talks about Paris, seeing castles, 4th grade and career anxiety over the Mean video. She talks about visiting having visited Neuschwanstein Castle that later appears in Bejewelled MV.

16 - 19 march Taylor seen in Paris

17 March - Taylor plays speak now in Paris at Zénith de Paris, in park bordered by Canal Saint-Denis, (technically) outside Saint-Denis.  Holy ground's secret message is “when you came to the show in SD” later the film clips for Begin Again, EHC, Falling and LOT tour images all reference canals in Paris. Taylor plays Soul Sister / Fearless mash-up for the first time that show. Soul Sister was Harry's first X-Factor Audition song. She plays the mash-up on/off for the rest of the tour and on the DVD.

21 March - Taylor in London Recording Studio wearing a rose dress key from IKYWT video. Taylor wore a Rose ring and Rose Dress the day before too.

22 March - Taylor shopping at Portobello Market and photographed at Alice in Wonderland themed store (Wonderland)

23 March - a Wednesday, Taylor wore white dress (Begin again cover) to Abbey Road Studios in London for Radio 2 concert. She played the Train Soul Sister mash up. 17 June - Lover Journal Taylor wrote in her journal on way to Nashville “Something so unexpected and amazing happened recently... I’ve become blissfully happy with my life. Like, actually grateful for every second of the day. I've notice this onset for a while, but it's really hit me in the last week and especially since I wrote those 2 new songs. I'm happy I get to meet so many people on the road who make me feel like my music really matters to them.” One song may be State of Grace.

24 September - Lucy Horobins husband later said she slept with Harry this week in a hotel in Manchester and had been texting.

28 - 30 September - 1D in New York, filmed Gotta be You in Lake Placid NY 29 and SUNY 29 September. Speak now break 18, 21 - 23 September, shows other days. The film clip included scenes on a train, the SBT message is "when you were on the train", she wrote it sometime on a bus. Speak Now dates in Colorado, Utah and Georgia. Harry met Emily Ostilly.

30 September - 1D at Heathrow

4 October - At Bring 1D to me Munich, when asked about ‘Celebrity Dreamgirls’ Louis says "Celebrity dreamgirls um,  yeah like there's a lot of people I suppose that we think is HOT, like... Harry?" the look Zayn, Niall and Liam's expressions, and Louis this is not flirting, he is 'ribbing' Harry for making out with a famous person and sharing his secrets. Harry says his crush is Emma Watson, who the interviewer says has a crush on him,  H blushes and, not willing to let it go, Louis points out a love bite. 5 October - Taylor tweets “Leaving Little Rock, headed to New Orleans. Writing a song on a moving bus” in the album video (8:20) Taylor said she wrote sad beautiful tragic on a bus. She has USA tour dates with only short breaks, not seen between.

7 October - Harry tweet ‘whoops, lost something pretty important…’ and Lucy Horobin tweeted cock innuendo

17 October - Harry goes to Ed Sheeran concert with Louis at Eleanor's university then not seen till rehearsals 2 weeks later. Lucy’s husband later said she slept with Harry then. Last time this is alleged.

19 October - Harry did a 10 min phone interview alone with Grimmy and said he was passing through Birmingham. There are voices in the background at the end.

20 October - Taylor played San Diego. Harry was not seen. He posted "Finally set the correct time on my Microwave..I feel like a new man." on Twitter.

24 October- Harry is coughing in an interview and looks and sounds unwell. At 16:20 the interviewer asks about their break, Harry purses his lips for age thinking then says he is tried when he comes back to work because he spends his break rushing around to see everyone. Zayn looks to Louis who gives a loud “Hmmm” which is a tell of his for knowing more than is said.

30 October - Taylor writes in lover journal she (also) has a chest infection!

31 October - Taylor adopted Meredith!

24 November Sugarscope asks if they have an eye on anyone in the US and mention Taylor Swift, all 5 are actually quiet for the first time, Liam’s face changes to serious (0:34), Harry and Zayn look at Louis, maybe because of Oct 4. Niall offers Demi Lovato and all the boys start saying Hollywood in a silly voice. The same interviewer asks about romantic Christmas plans, Louis looks at Harry again, Harry answers truthfully “Christmas at home with family” seems the interviewer and band know what’s not being said, they ask Harry twice

16 December - it snowed in Liverpool, including the "Snow on the beach" 50 minutes from Harry's house in Holmes Chapel.

22 December - in 1D you tube the band chose a fan question “from Taylor, if you were a girl who would you date” and Zayn laughs and says Harry.

28 December - Taylor posts three photos from a beach one with her face on the beach "Childhood beach memories revisited" and one with snow on the beach behind her "Nothing quite like a freezing cold, wintery beach." some have assumed this was in New Jersey, but the shadows look like an afternoon on an western coast and there was no snow in NJ, nor Taylor seen near there. It had snowed at the beach in Liverpool which is west.

29 December - Taylor posted a seashell with Safe and Sound Lyrics written (it had just been released) with the caption "Saying goodbye to the shore, writing on a seashell."

30 December - Harry got his drivers licence, on 28 June 2012 on Bert show (11 mins) said “the first thing I did was my …….. someone brought the car to me and I dropped them off at the pub” Harry was in Manchester. Louis posted he was in Paris Disneyland with Eleanor. Apart from the winter/snow on the beach photos Taylor hadn't been seen for a week, she then posted a goodbye and Harry's first drive was to drop someone secret somewhere. 👀 

31 December - Harry goes back to London flat for new years party, in same interview Harry said they spent Christmas at home

Fool that i am, I updated luma & twilight without first backing up my nand and sd card. post update, twilight was noticeably unstable, and after a crash while saving pokemon black my whole sd card was corrupted. hundreds of gigs of games and saves lost.

The console's fine. as is the memory card - at least physically. I'll be able to reformat the card and re-install all my games. but those saves are gone, including some old shiny pokemon, and many good parents.

I often endorse hacking your 3ds, and still do, but learn from my example - always backup your nand and memory card before firmware updates.

Every Game I Played in 2023, Ranked

I debated moving this list to Cohost (after all these years, the Tumblr text post interface still makes me want to punch a wall) but whatever, here we are! Keeping it relatively short this year.

A lot of the games I played aren't going to be on this list because I don't have much new to say about them (MTG, Dwarf Fortress, Strive, etc), but for those that I do, here's the games I played this year.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance - 2022 - Steam - ★★★

I really wanted to like this- you know I like me some Gundam- but the experience is simultaneously too thin, too grindy, and bereft of stakes. There's nothing like "oh no we have to preserve the Gundam metaverse from hackers ruining the archived story!" to make me go to sleep.

There's something about the progression system of every "hey, gotta catch 'em all!"-ish Gundam games that is designed exclusively for people who either played these games in the early 00s, or people with addictive personalities. There's been little in the way of evolution. Yeah, the gameplay here is different as a sort of Action RPG, but this is far more Dynasty Warriors than it is say Armored Core.

Just not for me!

9. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet DLC - 2023 - Switch - ★★★★

I talked last year about how I mostly liked this game in spite of its many, many issues. The DLC mostly plays to SV's strengths: fun plot and characters, improved open world catching system from Sword/Shield. They also run considerably better, due to a year of opportunity to make things more stable and address bugs.

That said: It doesn't address any of the other issues that have always been there. Open world exploration becomes kind of pointless when you have the ability to invalidate any level geometry. There is such a thing as too much mobility, believe it or not, when you can just jump over everything. At the same time, the ways cutscenes work is soooo slowwwww, to the point that getting through them to the "action" can be quite tedious.

This DLC also continues the unfortunate thing that drives me nuts about all these DLC, that the level scaling is just awful. It basically assumes you have done literally nothing since finishing Scarlet Violet, and not engaged at all with the post game. Which hey, works out for Lil Timmy who is experiencing this DLC in-line with the base game or only after beating it (since it does dynamically scale for earlier progression), but it makes the whole thing kind of a rote exercise for those who actually played the game more than that?

I realize this is multiple decades now of me barking that hey, it'd be nice if Pokemon didn't exclusively try to appeal to 5 year olds, which is definitely a lost cause at this point. We don't even get stuff like Battle Towers or Frontiers anymore really. Ah well!

8. Street Fighter 6 - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★

Ok, here's the thing: Street Fighter 6 is overall a very good game, lots of care and polish, but I got a few bones to pick with it.

1. I kind of hate its input buffer. Just drives me nuts, particularly with how it handles supers and specials with overlapping inputs.

2. World Tour while is neat, the progression of it is so goddamn grindy and miserable. So much HP for enemies as you go on, and you don't have access to a fighter's full skill set even at the very end due to how special "slots" work.

3. The cast feels too safe. I like the new additions a lot, and in general the old chars have been rendered quite well, but there's just not a lot of innovation going on. The system mechanics are quite good, but it's the thing where no one on the cast really calls out to me. Personal taste thing.

Marvel's Spider-Man - 2022 - Steam - ★★★★

I don't think I have anything particularly unique to say about The Spider-Man Experience beyond hey: that's a pretty good Spider-Man. I think the DLC was obnoxious as shit, and a number of the decisions tied to box-checking-completionist stuff were mean for someone like me who has the stupid brain that thinks it's important to do Everything no matter how tedious it is, but overall: a good Spider-Man. Some of the villain stuff felt pretty weak though.

7. Resident Evil 4 Remake - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A great remake! They trimmed down some areas a fair but, but none of them particularly egregious (some of them, particularly a last act boss being removed, was quite appreciated), and the mechanical additions are fun.

Does it invalidate the old version? I dunno, maybe?

6. We Love Katamari Re:Roll - 2023 - Steam / Switch - ★★★★★

Hey, you know what's also a very good game? We Love Katamari. Not much new to say beyond hey: the name is accurate, and you should buy and play it. I liked it enough to buy it twice on two platforms, which is silly but it gave me the excuse to play more Katamari so quite understandable.

A thing that does annoy me about the game is them reusing certain models from the other Katamari Remake, even when they were deliberately replaced in We Love Katamari and are even called out as different in the item descriptions despite not being so. Arrgh. It doesn't really matter, but I got the dumb brain for that kind of thing.

5. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A fighting game that I enjoyed years past now has actually good netcode! The mechanical additions have been very nice, and I've been enjoying myself grinding away for my meager gains. It's also funny having skipped all the base game's DLC and coming in now, since it's like this release just added 20 more chars I'd otherwise not engaged with before.

A ton of polish has made this a fantastic package across the board, so many smart decisions and little details. I'm sure for GranBlue gacha fans it's probably incredible as something that pays tribute as well.

… but see, my main annoyance with the game mostly ties to being unable to stand the source material it pulls from. It's not enough to diminish my positive feelings for the game, but none the less: man, everything about the lore and characters themselves just does NOTHING for me. This is nothing particularly unique to GranBlue itself even, it's pretty in line with how I feel about every gacha title that exists to roll out chars and appeal to as many niches as possible without real forward movement or actual story, but hey here we are.

Looking forward to that 2B.

4. Baldur's Gate 3 - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A game I admittedly haven't completed yet (I got up to a certain kidnapping in the last act and had to set it aside due to stuff repeatedly coming up for the past couple months) but still: this is a very good tactical RPG. I enjoy the writing, characters, and gameplay quite a lot. A ton of polish went into this.

I don't think I have much to say about it that hasn't been said by others, especially with all the Discourse that has circled it for months-to-years now across Early Access into release.

If there's one thing that does kind of annoy me about the game design, it's the way the player characters are handled. You have the option during character creator to create a character with a number of character-build-y backgrounds, or use their pre-built characters that have existing stories. This choice is lose-lose.

A fully custom character is blank, unimportant. There's nothing special about them beyond their affinity with a certain orb and being Protagonist Man. Their background doesn't really matter, even as you express your personality. You have nothing behind you that meaningfully comes up or affects the story (no Gorion, etc) beyond your role in the conflict. In other words, there's not a lot of reason for you to exist except as a cypher for the named characters.

Playing one of the named characters also sucks, because you lose those the writing for those characters. If I'm stuck aping Karlach, I have no Karlach in my party. You barely even get voice acting once you choose to play those characters either. You effectively end up with less writing and characterization, which kind of sucks! Yes, you do get your backgrounds being looped in and mattering more, which is indeed something, but not enough.

There is secretly a third option that, the more I think about it, is the correct one, they just don't tell you it. You can choose your character background to be tied to the Dark Urge, which results in a lot unique interactions, gives your character an actual background and comes up, etc. They don't outright make this the main option presumably because it comes with a lot of baggage (which, yeah, it does), but it seems completely worth it by comparison to just flitting through the story as either a ghost or the phantom of a real character.

3. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Remastered - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

Play Ghost Trick.

2. Armored Core VI - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

From Software continues to not miss. Fantastic game, some of the most satisfying mecha combat I've played. Story is great; it's still your usual "oops we're not explaining much other than in medias res or by circumstantial details" that From Soft has continued to double down on, but I really enjoy that stuff so hey. I 100%'d this game, got all the endings etc. Great stuff.

Really want some proper DLC so I can do even more, though.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

Let's face it: this wasn't going to end any other way. Breath of the Wild is probably my favorite game of all time, and this is basically just more of that, remixed and remastered into a Second Quest that builds on the first one.

Something I kept thinking about while playing is that while there is volumetrically more to do, more things happening, more mechanics, etc etc, the different approach it takes in terms of focus and approach doesn't make it necessarily a "strictly better" version of Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild was deliberately spare, quiet, and minimalist. Like the name says, its about the quiet wilderness, a poignant world that you explore. Tears of the Kingdom drops much of that, in many ways turning into a kooky madcap version of BOTW. You don't spent nearly as much time smelling the roses and taking in the scenery, as you're often too busy blasting by using any number of the new movement abilities or combat tools or literal flying machines you can now Nuts and Bolts together.

It's a deliberate escalation, one that in my opinion requires the preceding part to work. They add together into one complete singular experience, rather than pulling against each other. That's awesome, exactly what I wanted. Now I get to have two favorite games of all time that are secretly just one-and-the-same.

Some minor thoughts:

1. Lots of great writing and characterization, built up well on BOTW there.

2. It's kind of funny how much it goes out of the way to avoid talking much about BOTW in case someone plays this game first.

3. The last of a Master mode this time around is kind of a bummer but oh well!

4. The vehicle crafting system and everything about it, including the way it plays into the existing physics system is fucking insane. Absolutely incredible game design. Bonkers.

I'm really curious how the hell they're going to follow these games up. Going back to square-0 from this formula- one that is so built up and diverse, seems like it'd be impossible to me. What the hell could you do? Looking forward to finding out.

ok finished the dlc (not 100% yet though) lol so here's my thoughts

positives:

INFINITE FLIGHT IS SO NICEEEE GETTING AROUND AREAS WITH A LOT OF CLIFFS DOESN'T FEEL LIKE A CHORE ANYMORE

the synchro machine is so cool. so cool. it's so much less restricted than i thought it would be, like as far as i can tell the only restrictions are that you don't really have any vertical mobility, and you can only do it in the terarium. i also imagine it'll be huge for shiny hunting things like minior since it makes auto battling so much smoother. also minior is back and that's another positive :D (EDIT: nevermind about the shiny hunting thing, just learned that your pokemon WILL kill shinies while using it. also now that i think about it, if you found a shiny while in sync mode you wouldn't be able to catch it anyways since when you exit sync mode you go back to your trainer's position and the shiny would despawn. still good for getting 60 ko's in outbreaks though. btw yes i learned this the hard way BUT fortunately i did think to save before trying it so the sacrificial shiny deerling has been caught)

i do like that bbqs give an incentive to just run around and do things you normally wouldn't, instead of just fast travelling everywhere. another thing that makes getting from place to place less tedious, since you feel like the journey is working towards other things on top of just getting where you need to be

the music!!! the music!!!

i immediately fell in love with all the elite four members lmao like their designs and personalities are so fun

the story is pretty good too! definitely not as good as the base game but either way, these games kept strong with the writing all the way through imo (by pokemon standards, anyway. lol)

the new pokemon designs are so cool!!! i think there's 3 i still haven't seen yet but i'm looking forward to them!

negatives:

THE RETURNING LEGENDARIES ARE SHINY LOCKED. WHY. if it weren't for the synchro machine and the fact that they play their original battle themes, i would have literally 0 incentive to encounter them (and i'm aware that that's just a me thing but like. come ON). i hope whoever came up with the idea of shiny locking pokemon has a noticeable stomach ache for the rest of their life.

also on the synchro machine, one annoying little thing about it is that you can't use it if you sent out your pokemon while riding ko/miraidon. as in, even if you get off your mount, you still have to retrieve your pokemon and send it back out before it lets you sync. i imagine this is unintended, and i hope they fix it but they don't really have a good track record of fixing small annoyances like this. (edit: nevermind???? i have no idea how it works actually. sometimes it just says you can't and doesn't say why)

i wish switch games would stop making their camera functions send pictures directly to the system's photo album instead of having an in-game album, and then having little repeatable tasks that require you to take pictures. i don't want 700 pictures of swimming pokemon clogging up my sd card, please at least have a "do you want to save this image" prompt or something

and that's all i can say for now! i still have a bunch of side stuff to do but there's my post-credits thoughts :) overall i really like the dlc!!! the negatives are all pretty small and are very much outweighed by the positives for me. just sucks about the shiny locks though >:/

I havent posted in ages! Ive started work on my honors thesis and I'm playing a ton of pokemon!

My lovely gf thrifted a pristine copy of the Sun and Moon collector's guidebook so I'm running through Sun with a water monotype team! So far I have a Popplio which my partner called Bingo, a Slowpoke called Melon and a Wingull called Barnabus c:

Switch 2 Nintendo Direct thoughts - 2/4/25

I might as well post them now. The longer I wait the less relevant they become. I don't think anyone else will bother reading them though, but making sure they're written down somewhere like this is still good for me.

I'm liking how Mario Kart World looks. I was worried about how they could top Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but they've managed to add new gameplay mechanics. The open world aspect reminds me a lot of one of the Forza Horizon games I played on Xbox One - it might've been the original, but I'm not 100% sure.

The online chat being built into the system is MUCH better than how the Switch 1 handled it. Not that it really matters for me since the only person I play online games with likely won't get a Switch 2.

The new joy-cons having a mouse control scheme is something I NEVER would've expected, but it seems like it'll be really good for a lot of games - especially FPS games.

4K when docked is good, but that reminded me that my TV is 10 years old - maybe more - and is only 1080p so I won't get to benefit from that. My TV's never had any problems at all so I've never felt the need to get a newer one.

Why is Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour paid? It sounds like exactly the kind of program that wouldn't be. Oh well.

Having to use a new type of SD Card is kinda annoying, but I would've had to buy a new SD Card regardless. It doesn't seem like MicroSD Express cards exist yet so I can't buy one ahead of time.

The June 5 release date is actually sooner than I expected!

The Duskbloods has really good graphics, although Soulsbornes have never been my type of game.

Donkey Kong Bananza looks like it'll be really fun. I don't like Donkey Kong's redesign though.

EDIT: One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the free update Pokemon Scarlet/Violet will get for the system. Seems mundane, but I still do playthroughs of them occasionally.
