a/n: thank you for the love! This request kinda stumped me so sorry for taking a bit and if it isn’t the best, I was thinking of ways to incorporate the reader into the story but for it to also make sense

You were a worker at GUN, a lower level worker, at least that’s what your co-workers liked to joke about. A laughing stock, the work punchline. Basically deemed as unimportant and unnecessary but the reason for this wasn’t because you sucked at your job or you were a loser, no, it’s because your task was looked down upon.

When you were hired, the one thing you were told to do was watch over and take care of Project Shadow; you would clean the room he was stored in, kept the glass from getting cloudy and would just watch over him. A little protector, the others called you.

Today was no different from the day before, or the day before that or even the month before. It was routine. You quietly made your way to Shadows containment unit. The guards watched you enter, only sparing you a quick glance before going back to whatever they were talking about.

A small sigh escaped your lips as you made your way to the glass, checking for any cracks or signs for deterioration, “This sucks,” you quietly exclaimed.

Not because you hated looking after Shadow, no that was something you actually enjoyed, you’d some blabber about your day, finding comfort in the fact he couldn’t actually hear you; though sometimes you wish he could.

No, what sucked was the fact everyday at work was another day of being belittled and looked down upon. If it weren’t for the fact you’d grown somewhat attached to the little hedgehog, as well as a really good pay, you probably would’ve left this job by now. 

Slowly you continued to check the glass, making sure it was in perfect condition. As you did a sudden movement had caught your eye, it was fast and quick; like a flicker of light.

You weren’t able to quite catch what is was though because it was gone almost as fast as it was there, so you tried to leave it alone, going back to cleaning and checking the containment unit.

Suddenly the guards shouted your name, which was strange as they didn’t really talk to you much, thinking you were weird for protecting a hedgehog in Statis. You turned over for them and saw you motioning to move away from Shadow.

You only made a few advances towards them before a bunch of soldiers stormed the room, “What are you guys doing?!” You angrily questioned the masked men.

None of them responded, their gazes fixed on the hedgehog in front of you. The room became eerily still, the only thing you could hear was the faint beep of the machine wired to enhance and check Shadows heart beat.

It was a fast paced beep, it was getting worse and worse, you started to grow worried, trying to make your way to the machine so you could check it but one of the soldiers held you back. Not gently, quite forcefully, sparing no expense when it came to Project Shadow.

Then it stilled. The long beep indicating it was over, your eyes widened, a mix of shock and confusion over coming you. The soldier that was holding you back let you go, a sigh of relief escaped his lips.

Crack.

The glass was shattered. Shadow had finally woken up, and his demeanor only showed one thing. That he wanted revenge.

You were quickly pushed onto the cold floor, hitting your arm harshly, a small cut formed as blood was seeping from the wound. You let out a hiss of pain that didn’t seem to go unnoticed by the hedgehog.

He didn’t have a chance to react though as the men started to shoot at him, not caring that you were in the room. You tried to duck and ran into the corner hoping that no stray bullets, rubber or not, wouldn’t come your way.

Shadow made quick work of the soldiers, effortlessly taking them down without breaking a sweat. Then he made it to you, his gaze was sharp, but he didn’t attack you. He just watched you, his eyes looking at the cut you had on your arm, the blood dripping onto the floor. He looked back at the man who pushed you down.

His expression was unreadable. You both looked at each other, for some reason you weren’t scared, you should’ve been considering you just saw him take down over 8 armed men but if Shadow was going to hurt you he definitely would’ve already.

“Come.” He told you, turning his back to you as he punched the wall in front of him down and looked back at you before he continued to walk to the edge of the cliff.

Shadow wasn’t entirely sure why he told you to come with him. There wasn’t a set moment he knew you would accompany him, all he knew was that you weren’t like the other workers, who saw him as a threat and tried to take him down. You defended him, and for this kindness he would repay you. By becoming your protector, like you had been protecting him before.

DISCLAMIER !!!! i have never seen or read anything to do with the dc universe OR the Danny phantom show. my understanding of the show comes from cross over righting prompts and the phandoms love for bibity bobitying Danny into Gotham as random animals.

it was a normal night in Gotham, sky was clouded, air was spicy with a hint of some sort of gas and the bats and birds where out and about on patrol.

duke was at home asleep, since he was the dayshift. Jason was in crime alley dealing with some trouble stewing there, Tim was taking a coffee brake on a roof somewhere, dick was finishing calming down a paniced civilian after being mugged a couple of streets over from batman and robin (in Gotham for reasons.) Steph had the night off and cass was being cass and sneaking around somewhere.

nothing big had happened yet for tonight, just some muggings, one of them being a literal mugging involving a heavily intoxicated on who knows what male who SOMEHOW kept on finding random mugs and, like the dumb*ss drunken dude he was, was trying to rob, and I mean TRYING. to rob a poor college student who had stayed late for a test, and like the stressed, overworked, in dept person they where, had forgotten the normal carry on taser so was stuck waiting for a bat to come play. it got handled and now there was just some gossip over the coms that the bat tried and failed to stop.

Danny was.. okay.. ish, he wasn't hurt but he wasn't fully happy about how he get hear in the first place either. he and cujo had been in Gotham for around a week now just living day by day, it was stressful not letting to many folks see cujo but he'd say he's doing pretty well if he's to say for himself!

not really happy about being turned into a dog but he will live (ha right. he's not even alive.) but he will take being a dog over being strapped to lab table torn apart molecule by molecule.

... he's still mad at clockwork for it tho.

just before he got to stuck in his own mind cujo came bouncing over and pawed his leg happily trying to show Danny something so he stopped walking to see what it was that cujo wanted to show him. It turned out to be a old batarang laying there but it was a bit bloody so he let out a low chuft telling cujo to let it be and kept walking, cujo running up to his side after a little bit of sniffing at the discarded weapon.

he's still kind of annoyed that the only way he can talk to somebody makes his voice sound like he's on a OLD voice recorder. and when he does try and speak his mouth doesn't move so it just looks like he's standing there with his mouth wide open , it makes it REALY hard to help calm down folks he runs across and can be really creepy to some folks.

The best example to understand that Trump's tariffs have little to do with real threats to the United States is the case of Lesotho.

Lesotho is a tiny state in south Africa, that most common people won't have heard much about until now; but according to president Donald Trump, it must be one of America's biggest economic enemies. Check it out.

This tiny piece of land received a 50% tariff from the US, the highest of all. Why? Because Lesotho sells $228 million a year to the US, and buys $7 million. Why this imbalance? Because Lesotho has diamonds mines, and the US wants diamonds, but despite this it is one of the poorest countries on earth, so not much money to buy goods from the US.

It begs the question of what was the reasoning behind this, if there was one at all.

Glad you asked!!!! The short version is that it's a story about the inescapability of fate and the cycles of violence and peace in the world!

The long version is uh. Well (spoilers)

So like. Theres a big wheel that weaves the fabric of reality, right? And people get reincarnated and their souls get spit back out into new people, okay? That's how the world works. Also there is magic But! There's boy magic and girl magic.

So imagine you live in a post-scarity fake utopia and you're essentially a magic researcher. You discover magic that is neither girl nor boy magic but a secret third thing everyone who can already use magic can use (its genetic). And you just went through like the worst break up. So you use this cool new power!

And end up tearing a hole in the fabric of space and time. And theres this like entity in there that promises all this power and stuff and you're like "uhhhh well i do wanna be president or at least have my PhD unrevoked" (PhD revoked for tearing a hole in space and time) and also your ex has decided the entity is like. Pure evil. Which it is but you can't let him win that argument.

So you and your ex's ex and like 11 other researchers who aren't getting anywhere close to enough funding are like. Ok. Y'know what. Kinda fuck with the entity. Also we really don't like your ex girl he's too goody-goody.

Unfortunately your ex is also a top level magician/physicist and leads his 100 best friends to go seal your excellent hole in reality. Boo. But before he does this the entity "taints" boy magic so all men who can use magic go insane and kill everyone they love. Unfortunately you were also sealed inside the hole in reality and kinda go into statis for 3000 years.

Anyways because all then male magicians are insane now they essentially are walking nukes with no direction and blast humanity back to the stone age. Some of them kill themselves and some of them level cities and some of them try to not use magic but that's like acting someone who smokes a pack a day to quit cold turkey. So. Humanity forgets.

They forget genetic engineering and flying cars and teleportation magic. They remember the bare bones of ancient oaths and treaties but they don't have conext for them. The dimension of snake/fox people you had a longstanding treaty with is remembered as a children's game.

Anyways 3000 years pass and humanity sinks into darkness and then slowly, painstakingly, rebuilds. You're still trapped with your 12 colleages and the entity, but you have some small influence on the world. You command small armies of genetically engineered beings and mutants to slow progress. You manipulate people's dreams in a parallel dream dimension. You still aren't over your ex.

And then finally your ex's soul is spat back out into the world. He's a shepherd from a remote farming village. He's destined to be the most powerful male magician in 3000 years. He will go insane one day because of the taint on boy magic. You still love him. He doesn't even know who you are. Sometimes you can here him in the boy's voice, his stubborness. His ability to love other women.

Wheel of time is this story. Told from the perspective of your reincarnated ex and his 2 best childhood friends (reincarnated battle tactician with unreal luck and a man who has rediscovered wolf-telepathy), his childhood crush (president of the united states of girlbossery), his old babysitter (woman with every anger issue, ever), and his three girlfriends (yes they smoke weed. No you still aren't one of them).

It's a series that redefined how women are portrayed in fantasy. It recently got a television show that is a slightly different turning of the wheel but makes up for it by being explicity gay and having incredible costuming. It has excellent worldbuiliding and excellent character driven plot lines. It's been an absolute joy to reread after 7 years.

Non si sa ancora il motivo dell’omicidio di Brian Thompson, l’AD della United Health Care, freddato a Manhattan, ma la reazione delle moltitudini che sui social hanno celebrato l’omicidio rivela comunque la verità che, in cuor loro, milioni di Americani hanno sognato una vendetta simile.

Di tutte le anonime e inappellabili forze che governano la vita quotidiana degli Americani, la sanità commerciale è quella che infligge costanti tormenti e sofferenze e le ingiustizie più crudeli ai cittadini inermi. In particolare, lo sono le assicurazioni mediche, un settore industriale da 4000 miliardi l’anno il cui business model consiste nel riscuotere esosi premi da clienti-ostaggio e successivamente minimizzare i servizi erogati traendo dalla differenza utili da capogiro (Per la United, $371 miliardi nel 2023).

Negli Stati uniti la sanità è del tutto asservita sul mercato privato, controllato da Big Pharma e Big Insurance (cui è del tutto assoggettata la professione medica). Il risultato è la colossale inefficienza di un sistema che deve tener conto di quei profitti (in USA la spesa sanitaria procapite ammonta a più di $12000 – il doppio dei $6000 di altri paesi industrializzati) a fronte di risultati e. aspettativa di vita inferiori. Il catalogo delle vessazioni ed angherie inflitte ai “clienti” per massimizzare i guadagni è praticamente un genere letterario a se.

Poco dopo essermi traferito in California, da studente, ho contratto una meningite virale. Recatomi al locale pronto soccorso, un esame ha confermato la diagnosi e il medico mi ha detto che, data la gravità, si imponeva un ricovero immediato. All’apprendere che non ero assicurato, però mi ha comunicato che non c’era nulla che potesse fare per me e mi ha dimesso con un paio di compresse analgesiche (12 ore dopo ero sotto tenda a ossigeno in un ospedale statale, tenuto per legge a somministrare cure.) La lezione sulla locale concezione sanitaria, si è completata con le bollette da molte migliaia di dollari arrivate in seguito (con minacce di pignoramento), non solo dall’ospedale curante, ma da quello che mi aveva messo alla porta.

Una goccia nel mare u in un mare di malasanità governata da algoritmi aziendali e anonimi funzionari col mandato di negare i benefici promessi dai contratti assicurativi. Chiedete ad una Americano per strada e saprà snocciolare una litania di aneddoti horror. Partorienti dimesse il giorno della nascita per carenza di assicurazione. Decine di migliaia di dollari fatturati per visite al pronto soccorso. Cure negate perché procedure essenziali vengono dichiarate “elettive” dagli assicuratori o “eccessive” (compreso, in caso di anziani, perché “è stata già raggiunta la logica aspettativa di vita”). Ogni anno 650000 americani dichiarano bancarotta per spese mediche. Solo questa settimana ha fatto notizia l’annuncio del colosso assicurativo Anthem: avrebbe continuato a rimborsare le anestesie chirurgiche ma “per un numero limitato di minuti.”

In questo quadro fa ridere l’idea che gli immigrati vengano in America “per approfittare della sanità pubblica.” Sono giustificati semmai gli avvertimenti dei consolati che consigliano ai turisti di premunirsi prima di visitare un paese dove un osso ingessato ti può rimandare a casa con debiti per decine di migliaia di dollari.

È il mercato bellezza. Se non vuoi perdere alla roulette non entrare nel casinò.

Non c’è da sorprendersi allora che alla notizia dell’omicidio, così tanti Americani abbiano avuto lo stesso pensiero, maturato in anni di paura e disgusto e notti in bianco passate a pensare come poteri permettersi d salvare la pelle mentre gli assicuratori brindavano.

Quando è stato ucciso Thompson si apprestava a brindare con gli azionisti un altro trimestre di stratosferici fatturati sulla pelle degli “assistiti.”

Al di là dei motivi che potranno venire acclarati, il gesto violento di Manhattan ha immediatamente assunto riflessi di lotta di classe - o delle forme patologiche che ne hanno preso il posto nella distopia ballardiana in cui viviamo. Dear Dad:

I have just received your letter and I am very happy to see that you are well and that you and Leon are together. It has taken me by surprise and I am very happy, because I know that you are, or should I say were, very lonely there. That's how I feel when I start thinking about you and the rest - and Betty. Tell Leon to do what he's supposed to do, because, as you used to tell me, life takes its toll on you. I'm also very happy that you have a TV, and I know you're ‘working hard’ at fixing up the house. Mi ha colto di sorpresa e sono molto felice, perché so che siete, o dovrei dire eravate, molto soli lì. È così che mi sento quando inizio a pensare a te e agli altri - e a Betty. Di' a Leon di fare quello che deve fare, perché, come mi dicevi sempre, la vita ti prende il suo tributo. Sono anche molto felice che tu abbia una TV e so che stai “lavorando sodo” per sistemare la casa. Malgrado la neutralità, l’Ucraina avrebbe potuto avvicinarsi alla Ue, in quanto non erano previsti divieti espliciti al suo ingresso nell’Unione. Inoltre, le due parti si sarebbero impegnate a risolvere pacificamente la disputa sulla Crimea nei successivi quindici anni. I garanti dell’intesa sarebbero stati i membri permanenti del Consiglio di Sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite (inclusa la Russia) insieme a Canada, Germania, Israele, Italia, Polonia e Turchia. Allora, Nuland aveva fatto pressione sull’ex presidente ucraino Viktor Janukovic perché accettasse un accordo di libero scambio con l’UE; successivamente è stata fotografata in piazza Maidan durante i disordini del 2014 mentre distribuiva del cibo ai manifestanti. In seguito al golpe che ha portato alla cacciata di Janukovic, inoltre, è diventata virale la registrazione di una telefonata in cui la diplomatica americana parlava con l’ambasciatore USA a Kiev circa chi avrebbe dovuto sostituire Janukovic tra i rappresentanti dell’opposizione: alla dichiarazione dell’ambasciatore, secondo cui sul punto avrebbero dovuto consultare anche i capi europei, la Nuland rispose con la celebre frase “fuck the UE” (“l’UE si fotta”), cosa che ha suscitato l’imbarazzo dimesso delle cancellerie europee. Moglie del politologo neoconservatore Robert Kagan, cofondatore del Progetto per un nuovo secolo americano (Project for the New American Century), è membro del Council on Foreign Relations, la Nuland è considerata un falco antirusso, protagonista delle vicende che hanno preceduto i disordini di Maidan e presente a Kiev in quegli stessi giorni, ben informata sul quadro geopolitico eurasiatico e russo in particolare. Le sue ultime dichiarazioni rivelano le determinanti influenze di Washington e Londra nel sabotare le trattative del 2022, così come i preponderanti interessi che la sfera anglo-americana ha in Ucraina, smentendo allo stesso tempo l’ipotesi che a far fallire i negoziati siano stati i crimini di guerra russi, in molti casi smentiti da indagini e testimonianze successive. Sebbene la stampa occidentale continui a negare che l’Occidente abbia avuto un ruolo nell’influenzare i negoziati, le affermazioni della Nuland sembrerebbero suggerire che USA e Gran Bretagna non abbiano voluto un’Ucraina neutrale, scegliendo piuttosto di continuare a utilizzare il Paese est europeo come “bastione” antirusso.
