(Firstly, apologies for rapidly going through all your live blogging of your MK reading; your takes are entertaining and I couldn't help myself) but primarily! The 2006 run committed many crimes but at least it didn't have Marc fight a ???? Rabid dolphin??? As some kind of ~How Bad A Person Are You?~ test. I've simply never gotten over that one

2006 was extremely grimdark but in a way that felt grounded and reasonable. It's Marc's worst days, actively being pushed into his worst self by Khonshu at every turn, and it results in Marc literally faking his own death and Jake taking over to try to recenter the system. Worst bit of that run was how he treated Marlene and how she didn't IMMEDIATELY run for the hills and never come back.

2016 Bemis was like what if instead of a man dealing with a mental illness on top of being a vigilante, Marc has ThE PoWeR oF CrAzYyyy like some z-list Deadpool ripoff. The rabid dolphin, the antisemetic handling of Marc's jewishness (plus the Nazi posing as a rabi making bad Jewish jokes ugh), the way that run made Jake into the most unhinged/violent member of the system (plus giving Jake a daughter and making her call him Uncle Jake and insisting Marc is her "real" dad ugh) it was just a bad run and I hate that it immediately followed up the Lemire run

Timbuktu but he’s a shady medic. He’s also aged up bc why not

He’s lost his parents, he’s lost his fortune, he’s now living in crime alley. Great, stellar, it’s whatever, then he finds a whole ass child bleeding out in an alley

Because Timber has, like, a saviour complex, he’s like ok I’m going to carry this random child into my shitty apartment. When he finishes patching the child he passes out and the next day the child is gone.

Timmy’s like great, he’s gone, idgaf. But no, Timberly, you made a mistake. Bc the child told *other children* about him. Now he was running an under ground medic for homeless children, he’s totally fine, the compartmentalisation skills are coming in hand.

The first kid he saved, Jason, disappeared one day, Tim’s confused and worried (he doesn’t care for him, no sir, why would you say that?) then he’s like ohhhh new Robin = Jason

Then Robin dies, and he’s… *more hurt than he had thought he would be*

After a while he’s still sad, but it’s better, he’s still taking care of the children. Bc it’s what Jason would have wanted, but the fucking red hood gang captures him.

He’s like ohhhhh fuck, this is the end besties. But for some reason this goon named Gary ruined it all. Gary was a little dumb and he ruined the entire terrorising part of the kidnapping.

Jason apparently wanted to kill him because he forgot him? Bullshit? He was depressed?

Instead of going to sleep, I just read a 150,000 word fic.

Is now 4am, and I have an 8 hour shift starting in 2 hours.

So I'm finally reading If You Give A Bat a Burger and it reminded me of another fic and I can't tell if was a crossover or not...

Danny (or maybe Tim?) goes to the Iceberg Lounge to steal something from Cobblepot, knocks out a waiter, steals their uniform, and manages to escape but gets noticed and, funnily enough, is told to take the trash out as he leaves. He does so, and later, Batman (and possibly a Robin?) finds him in a dumpster, where the stolen thing was hidden, and he makes some BS story about looking for a ring that belonged to his father.

Think it might've been Tim as Stray or Red X, but my brain keeps saying Danny...

Update!!!!!!!! It's definitely Tim. @proshipper-on-ship found it for me!!! Aren't they awesome???

It's Take It Back Now Y'all by TimTheToaster (tabletoptime), which, for the record, is one of my all-time favorite time travel fics. (Which also goes to show how shitty my memory is. The second I looked at the title, I knew it was the fic, but remembering the scene in detail didn't clue me in to where I knew it from.)

Fandragon Spotlight

Ive never see anyone with fandragons from this same media but I love them all. They are all from TableTopTime's Cyberpunk Dystopia RP campaign: Reboot.exe. When Desmond was a child, he had two imaginary friends. Both of them were from the past, both of them legendary members of the Assassin’s Brotherhood. When Altaïr grew up, he wrote the stupid Codex and hated every minute of it because he knew they’d be smug. When Ezio was a teenager, everything he’d learned from Altaïr helped him save his family even though his father had kept him in the dark. #i did a self defense class once#and the first day we talked about weapons the instructor went#“you do not want to get into a knife fight! it is really hard to not get stabbed at least a little in a knife fight”#“and if you carry around a knife to protect yourself then Every fight is a knife fight”#and then proceeded to show us how easy it is to lose your grip on a weapon or mishandle it or just not use it well#there was also a lot in that class about Minimum required force and a weapon is never gonna be the minimum

ive said it before and i'll say it again but carrying a weapon does not make you safer, it gives the person assaulting you a free weapon. i know we live in a time where fear is profitable and the cute pink stun guns make feminism sexy but they do not work like you think they do.

there is an extremely slim chance you will be able to deploy the pepper spray/taser/gun in a way that does not harm you at all. pepper spray blows back, guns miss, tasers slip. there is a much much larger chance things go poorly and you end up getting hurt worse than originally intended because now your assailant is pissed and more heavily armed.

im not talking out my ass here, i'm a case manager at a homeless shelter for addicts. we have a lot of violent behavior. none of our staff carry any sort of weapons. we are trained to de-escalate or remove ourselves from the situation. i have worked there over two years without being harmed despite intervening in many fights and having weapons pulled on me.

there is safety in numbers. there is safety in well lit streets and staying on your phone and knowing when to scream and run. there is no safety in "personal defense items".

There was absolutely no way this sunshine was from Gotham in April. Not possible. Which meant, Tim was no longer in Gotham, in April. (In which Tim finds himself in the past, and tries to do the right thing. It's more complicated than he'd like.)

Additional Tags: Time Travel, to call this a fix-it is disingenuous but it is in the spirit, the OCs are kind of filler but also not if that makes sense, more tags as the situation develops, i'm just gonna slide in the, slow burn, tag because this is going to be a long build-up to Something, Canon-Typical Violence, but more like Tim's normal than Bruce's, just so we're clear, BAMF Tim Drake, Tim Drake-centric, Impied/Referenced Underage Prostitution, Unreliable Narrator,

Notes: Yeah, so that tag, the 'a long build-up to Something' one? That's going to make you ugly sob. Like UGLY sob. But it's still awesome. This story is amazing and I' can't recommend it enough. You'll run through the gamut of emotions.
