I have- So Many lost books like that but one of my favorites that I've never heard of anywhere else is The Girl who Drank the Moon!

it's this heartwarming story about a girl who accidently drinks too much magic after a witch in the woods adopts her. There's also a side plot about the son of the mayor of some town finding himself and separating himself from his corrupt family. I don't remember much about the actual plot but now I'm inspired to find it and read it again, who knows if it'll live up to child me's hype LOL

if anyone looks into it from this post though trigger warning for child abuse, human(specifically child) sacrifices, jail/mental hospital type settings and hella corrupt politics

I made another visit to my local book store and you’ll be able to see what I purchased below. I’ve come to realize this year that reading books and purchasing books are two completely different hobbies of mine. With as many books that I have in my collection at the moment, I’m surprised that people aren’t stopping by my house thinking that another branch has opened up that’s apart of the city…

start a summer book club w your friends. doctor who book club, comic book club, nonfiction book club: make silly powerpoints. only have online friends? start a discord. if you have a library card, you’ll probably be able to access databases like libby and hoopla with your card # (in the US, but i can’t guarantee that globally). hoopla is amazing, it has hundreds of doctor who comics (wtf😭🙏) and free audiobooks like gideon the ninth, which ive been listening to (bc my branch was out of copies) - anyways. humans are the storytelling animal, and reading is praxis. this ad has been brought to you by your local public library

(For the actual real books tag) As a child I was absolutely bananas for anything mermaids. During this time I found a book series called Ingo about a girl who gets the ability to travel between her home at the surface and the mermaid kingdom at the bottom of the sea. I might have some of the sequels somewhere but I know for a fact that the first book was at the school library and so I don't have them now... with any hope I'll be able to find copies online

Oh that's interesting, and actually this ask reminded me of a book series I had almost totally forgotten, but that book series was Emily Windsnap (I dug out one of my copies so that I could remember the title), anyway that seems separate from Ingo so good luck to finding copies online!

i just got my library card renewed after a very long time - do you know what all i can do with it other than taking out books? because i know there's more things but i feel like it's a silly question to ask

Not at all, and welcome back to the library life! Your millage may vary based on which of these services your library has available, but here's a few things I know of off the top of my head that are pretty common:

The library might have CDs, movies, and even newspapers you can borrow as well

Libby, an app that uses your library card to borrow and download ebooks and audiobooks to enjoy on your mobile device or e-reader

Kanopy, a streaming service for TV shows and movies

Hoopla, which has a whole bunch of stuff like shows & movies, comics, and magazines

Your library might have a makerspace that gives you access to things like 3D printers, button makers, computers with a bunch of Adobe software, ect

Sometimes they host book clubs or other fun community events!
