FTH 2023 Supported Organization: Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund
Although the legal and social landscape for trans people is better than it was ten or even five years ago, trans people still face discrimination, and in some cases even violence, in many dimensions of life. Trans people are far more likely to be confronted with unjust eviction, denial of medical treatment and employment discrimination. Trans people of color are particularly vulnerable, and are among the most frequent targets of violent hate crimes.
Tumblr media
The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund’s mission is to end discrimination and achieve equality for transgender people, particularly those in our most vulnerable communities. Transgender people have been subject to pervasive discrimination that has kept them, with rare exceptions, hidden from public view.
TLDEF’s strategies include path-breaking trans rights cases and “friend of the court” briefs regarding the key issues of employment, health care, education and public accommodations. They seek to coordinate with traditional civil rights organizations and other LGBT civil rights organizations. They also provide public education on transgender rights.
In addition, TLDEF’s Name Change Project provides pro bono legal name change services to community members through partnerships with some of nation’s premier law firms and corporate law departments.
You can support TLDEF as a creator in the 2023 FTH auction (or as a bidder, when the time comes to donate for the auctions you’ve won.)

"Top surgeries are coming out on top when it comes to patient satisfaction. A new study found that when it comes to this particular procedure, people’s long term satisfaction was “overwhelmingly positive compared to other medical and nonmedical decisions.”
Opponents of access to gender-affirming care like to claim that patients will someday regret making irreversible or partially irreversible changes to their bodies, such as gender-affirming mastectomies (often referred to more colloquially as top surgery). Florida Governor and wannabe presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, who has overseen passage of some of the most anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and policies we've seen, once likened trans-affirming care to chemical castration during a debate, while Arkansas Attorney General appeared on Jon Stewart’s show The Problem to deliver the incredibly made-up statistic that 98% of gender dysphoric youth will eventually identify as cisgender.
However, actual medical evidence tells a much different story.
A study published online in the journal JAMA Surgery on August 9 surveyed 139 participants, all of whom had gender-affirming mastectomies at the University of Michigan between January 1, 1990, and February 29, 2020. Researchers found that the median satisfaction rate among respondents was five on a scale of 1 to 5 (the higher the number, the greater the satisfaction, the study explains), and that their medium regret score was 0 on a 100-point scale (again, the lower the number, the lower the regret). In other words, the overwhelming majority of respondents were highly satisfied and regret was vanishingly rare.
Additionally, a quarter of respondents reported having had an additional gender-affirming procedure since their top surgery. As the study’s authors said, “These results suggest sustained intent and consistency in decision-making.”
This is far from the first time that medical evidence has supported the long-term positive effects of gender-affirming surgeries. A 2021 review of multiple studies found that only around 1% of patients who received gender-affirming surgeries regretted their decision. And as the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund notes, almost every major medical association has recognized gender-affirming care as a medical necessity."

Artsakh has been blocked for 2 weeks 100+ days already, 120.000 people are deprived of their human rights, many of them are children. Tomorrow is Christmas, and on this very special holiday consider supporting indigenous christian nation by donating to good causes.
After 9 months of total blockade and after heavy shelling by the fascist dictatorship of Azer/baijan, the population of around 120.000 indigenous armenians had to flee Artsakh. Armenia is a small country, its population numbers at just a little below 3 million people - to accomodate more than 100k people, who left everything behind and need to find new places to live and work at, is a heavy task. Consider donating to the charities listed here.
URGENT:
Solar Haghorti - provide hot water to the Haghorti village in Artsakh
Sunrise in Artsakh - solar water heaters for Artsakh (please read the page, donation button is in the text, it's easy to miss)
Greenhouse Project - building greenhouses to overcome the challenges faced by Artsakh’s loss of land after the war as well as the blockade
Greenhouses and Beekeeping for Artsakhi Armenians - help Artsakh families to rebuild their lives in Armenia and create food secure and climate resilient communities
Supplies for Syunik and Beyond - fundraising for the Border Villages in Syunik
Legal Defense Fund for Jerusalem Armenians - help the Armenian Community of the Old City of Jerusalem as it stands in defense of its survival and security
OTHER:
Armenian food bank - food, clothing, medicine
VIVA foundation - doctors and medicine (25% of what I get from my winter commissions will go here)
Frontline Therapists - provides mental health services to Armenian veterans and others experiencing war related trauma
All for Armenia - support vulnerable populations, displaced families and border communities in Armenia
Kooyrigs - aid for those living in areas highly targeted by azer\\baijan
MIASEEN - stability for families in need
LGBTQ+:
Pink Armenia - serves community's needs, protects LGBTQ+ people's rights and pushes for the change of public policy around LGBTQ+ issues
GALAS - supportive network for LGBTQ+ people, promotes their personal empowerment within their communities and helps to build bridges between the LGBTQ+ and Armenian communities
Right Side - community-based rights defender non-governmental organization for the protection of transgender people and sex workers in Armenia

Even more exciting news I hadn't heard yet, but The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) and The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) announced on January 17th that they will be merging into one organization called Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE)!
They're merging after a long history of partnering with each other in the hopes of creating a stronger front against the legal and social barriers trans people in the US experience, which is really neat!

“I did assault her and I will do it again,” he said. “And if I need to be 10 years in prison I’m happy to be 10 years in prison.” Says a man fled anyway.
The trans activist who threw tomato juice on a women’s rights campaigner during a free speech event in Auckland has been charged with common assault and appears to be fleeing from New Zealand authorities as a result.
Eliana Rubashkyn, also known as Eliana Golberstein and Eliana Rubinstein, is a male who identifies as transgender and intersex and uses “they/them” pronouns. On March 25, Rubashkyn attacked women’s rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen during what was supposed to be a peaceful women’s rights demonstration.
Keen, also known by her moniker Posie Parker, had arranged for a speaking tour of New Zealand centered around giving women the platform to express their thoughts on gender ideology. But she was forced to cut the tour short after being met with extreme aggression at her first stop in Auckland at Albert Park.
Tumblr media
As Keen approached the bandstand in the park, where she was set to speak to a crowd of approximately 200 supporters, Rubashkyn dumped a liter of tomato juice onto her and her security detail. Videos of the incident have since circulated on social media, and Rubashkyn told a local news station that he was able to approach Keen because he lied about his identity and pretended to be a supporter of hers.
Following the event, Rubashkyn gave an interview where he claimed that he targeted Keen because “her words are blood because they are killing our people.” He continued: “That tomato juice represents the blood of the people she is trying to kill.”
Rubashkyn also addressed the crowd after Keen was escorted away from the park by police, and stated that he wanted Keen to be “full of blood … because she’s advocating for our genocide.”
Information on Rubashkyn’s charge was first reported by Newsable, which received a statement from Rubashkyn where he again claimed the assault and suggested he was comfortable facing justice.
“I did assault her and I will do it again,” he said. “And if I need to be 10 years in prison I’m happy to be 10 years in prison.”
But despite his words, Rubashkyn fled New Zealand shortly after being made aware that police were planning on issuing a warrant for his arrest on charges of assault.
His latest travel-related post suggests he has now left Australia and is en route to the United States.
Tumblr media
A fundraiser has been launched to support Rubashkyn, citing support for a legal defense fund as well as “personal security needs.” It has since raised just over $1,300 as of the writing of this article. The fundraising campaign is currently under review by GiveALittle, and some on social media have noted it is likely against the platform’s terms of service to be fundraising for a known fugitive.
Rubashkyn is originally Jewish-Ukrainian from Colombia, but currently lives in New Zealand. He has worked with the UN and as a Program Officer at ILGA World (the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association). Much of his origin story and gender identity has come into question after a March 28 Twitter space wherein Rubashkyn appeared incoherent at times while addressing a live audience for almost 8 continuous hours.
During the space, Rubashkyn made a number of anti-lesbian, racist, sexist, and violent remarks, including that trans-identified males were the “first victims” of the Holocaust.
“Trans women were the first victims of Nazism. Trans women were killed before the Jews were sent to concentration camps,” he said, continuing: “In the 1930s, Nazis relied on TERFs to promote hate… TERFs became holders of concentration camps for females. TERFs were quite instrumental in the system that the Nazis built for making more babies… to keep Nazi Germany growing.”
Rubashkyn claims to be Jewish and says he can speak fluent Hebrew, but seemed to be unable to understand a Hebrew speaker who challenged him on his assertion.
In addition to the marathon space, Rubashkyn also uploaded a video to his Twitter account in which he was seen sobbing while claiming there was a “trans genocide” occurring, and that “Nazis” were trying to murder him.
“I am so full of joy because I am trans, but I am so scared because they want to kill me. The Nazis, they are– they just really want to get you.”
Tumblr media
The March 25 event was part of an international Let Women Speak tour hosted by British women’s rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen. Keen has hosted rallies across the UK, USA, and Australia encouraging women to use her platform to speak about how gender ideology has impacted their lives.
While Keen’s events are often met with hostility, the New Zealand rally descended into violence so rapidly that it had to be cancelled before it could even begin.
As she arrived at the Albert Park venue, Keen went live on her YouTube channel as she usually does to provide her supporters updates from the event.
Immediately, the scene was chaotic as police did not appear to be present. Those watching from a distance through the YouTube stream were able to see Keen being led by her security though a braying crowd of trans activists. Once she managed to make it to the stage, Keen could immediately be heard expressing concerns about the lack of police presence.
Keen and her supporters were quickly surrounded by an increasingly aggressive mob of trans protestors. The activists broke through established barriers, and didn’t take long before the decision was made to cancel the event and leave for the safety of all involved.
In addition to Keen having been assaulted by Rubashkyn, an elderly woman who had attended the demonstration in support of Keen was battered in the face by a male trans activist.
Tumblr media
The woman, who is said to be in her 70s, was left with a darkly blackened eye after being both head-butted and punched in the face. Videos of the assault went viral on Twitter as multiple angles of the altercation between the elderly woman and the male trans activist began to leak in the aftermath of the rally.

If im allowed more questions i was wondering if you guys intended for the tombsonas to be trans coded? Because these characters have really struck a cord with a lot of us trans fans
As a nonbinary person myself i feel very represented and validated by them
Hiya!
So, I would give a qualified yes to this. On a more meta storytelling level, they are absolutely and definitionally trans, in that they embody every gender identity possible across human expression, and they are conduits for stories around evolution of identity. On a more technical in-canon sense, gender as a concept is a human creation that, as extradimensional genderless entities, the tombsonas technically do not have outside of the human they’re bonded to, and ‘coded’ generally refers to a sharing of cultural traits, so I would say they’re more thematically trans characters (i.e. ‘a trans narrative’) rather than culturally trans characters (i.e. ‘trans coded’) if that makes sense.
I’ll take this opportunity to also say, now that I’m using this platform more, that trans issues are extremely important to Yoav and I - we both have trans family members, put a lot of money towards the fight for trans rights (as well as direct aid), and I’ve been a longtime ambassador for TLDEF in the USA (the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund). As I’ve said before, the fight to marginalize, destroy, and erase trans people is the tip of the spear of the global fascist movement, so to any of my followers with a couple bucks to spare, I cannot speak highly enough of supporting TLDEF. They’re also going to join with TCFE later this year into a new trans lobbying entity called A4TE who will be able to enact bigger change at the US federal level.
Thanks for your question!

Umbrella: Abortion Funds
For the past three years, FTH has supported one “umbrella” cause: we invite participants to donate to their own local grassroots organization, while also suggesting a handful of exemplary organizations working in in communities where the need is especially acute. This year (like last year) this umbrella category is abortion funds.
Abortion funds are grassroots nonprofits dedicated to supporting reproductive justice in their communities. These organizations provide financial, logistical and emotional support for people seeking abortions, and work to build collective power to create political and cultural change around reproductive freedom.
Our 2023 selections for the umbrella group was compiled with assistance from Kiki, a digital engagement manager for an abortion support nonprofit and the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the (now-defunct) site The Learned Fangirl. (Please feel free to reach out to her on twitter @kdc if you have any questions about abortion funds!)
Buckle Bunnies Fund
Indigenous Women Rising
Kentucky Health Justice Network
Abortion Fund of Ohio
New Orleans Abortion Fund

Groundbreaking in its depictions of joy and community, Authentic Selves celebrates trans and nonbinary people and their families in stunning photographs and their own words. Foreword by transgender activist Jazz Jennings and her mom and fellow activist, Jeanette Jennings. Developed in collaboration with PFLAG National and Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund. It's available wherever books are sold and from inSpirit: The UU Book and Gift Shop at shopinspirit.org.
So often trans and nonbinary people’s stories are told only through the lens of their struggles and challenges, including their political battles for legal rights, but trans and nonbinary people live rich and fulfilling lives full of joy and community too. Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families is a sweeping compilation of life stories and portraits of trans and nonbinary people, as well as their partners, parents, children, siblings, and chosen family members.
The compelling stories in Authentic Selves provide a glimpse into the real lives, both the challenges and the triumphs, of these remarkable people and their families—people like Senator Sarah McBride, disability justice advocate Parker Glick, drag entertainer TAYLOR ALXNDR, September 11th first responder Jozeppi Angelo Morelli, model Lana Patel, youth activist Elliott Bertrand, and so many others—all of whom are working to create a more just, diverse, and compassionate world.

my Fandom Trumps Hate auction page is live: DMBJ, AFTG/TFC and TGCF
CAN I INTEREST YOU IN SOME HOMEGROWN FANFICTION COOKED TO YOUR TASTES AND SPECIFICATIONS?
I’m taking part in my first Fandom Trumps Hate auction this year and the browsing period has just opened, including my page.  I am actually the only writer offering DMBJ/Grave Robber’s Chronicles AT ALL this year, but I’m also down for AFTG/TFC and TGCF/Heaven’s Official Blessing. This auction means a lot to me since it’s giving me a way to pay forward the access to literally life-saving medical treatment fandom helped me get in 2021-2022, so if you’ve ever liked my work, please do me a favour and reblog - and have a look if you’re so inclined.
I’ve copy-pasted the relevant info below, but please don’t forget you need to go to this page to get the bidding information, and actually, uh, you know, bid. Any other questions you can message me directly here on Tumblr.
Organizations this auction benefits: Rainbow Railroad *, Sherlock's Homes Foundation, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund *, Any/all abortion funds (See full list.)
Type of fanwork: Written Subtype(s): Fanfic Fandom(s): DMBJ/Grave Robber's Chronicles , All for the Game, Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official's Blessing) Highest rating: E (Explicit) Length/scope: Less than 5k words
Especially interested in: Big love for a Weird Gender Thesis, historical AU, media pastiches, and art history as metaphor. I'm clearly currently obsessed with HeiHua (DMBJ) but I love to return to a fandom (so: AFTG), and would be thrilled to try out TGCF for the first time as a writer. Happy to finish a chapter of a work if you always wanted to see something finished and I didn't return to it. Smut-wise, I will absolutely write kink and I'm willing to negotiate on those.
I am open to various pairings I haven't written before in any winning fandom, pending discussion.
Unwilling to address: I'm not going to write Xiao Hua as cisgender if a winning bid decides on DMBJ as their fandom. Rape/non-con is out for me, even in a consensual non-consent kink scene, as is torture, abuse in relationships, kink I do not feel equipped to write (sorry furries/kink involving bodily fluids/knifeplay, and so on), suicide/suicidality and related topics, pregnancy/kidfic, or medical settings (including psychiatric). I'm also not your best bet for a break up fic. If you're unsure ahead of time please message me on Tumblr!
Notes: Anyone bidding on this is going to have to be willing to negotiate with me around their idea, as I'll be honest with you - I'm drawing a blank on other Nos and this is my first auction, so I'd appreciate someone with flexibility on that front. I also wouldn't be able to get started until the end of April, so if you are burning for a quick turnaround, I'm probably not for you on this occasion. I do love technical challenges and, again, pastiches, i.e. from a favourite film of yours and so on, and I'm happy to negotiate watching a film so I can do this - I don't have to have seen it before. Thanks for reading!
Special Interests: Trans or nonbinary interpretations of canon characters, Ambiguous endings
Minimum Bid: $10
Auctions run from 8:00AM EST, 1 March 2023, to 8:00PM EST, 5 March 2023.
(And here’s the link to go bid one more time, with feeling. I’ll stop now.)

Trans Rights Readathon
From March 20-27th, all the cool bookish social-media-people will be reading and promoting books by trans authors. We'll also be encouraging followers to donate to support trans people! One suggested fund is the Trans Health Legal Fund run by the Transgender Law Center, but feel free to support an org closer to your heart!
This is a decentralized fundraiser/action, so below are some guidelines on how to participate, but feel free to adjust and do whatever makes sense for your content and your followers! As long as you're encouraging people to read trans books and donate to trans support orgs, you're participating!
Before March 20th:
Tell your followers about the Trans Rights Readathon!
Use the hashtag #transrightsreadathon
If you're comfortable & able, disclose how much $$ you'll be donating for each book or chapter you read, and what trans org you want your followers to support
You can ask folks to make a flat one-time donation, or pledge to donate a certain amount based on however many books/chapters you read.
Invite your followers to read along with you, and (if they're able) to share their pledged donation in a comment or repost.
Stress that if folks can't help out financially, supporting the readathon by reading along, commenting, boosting, and sharing is super helpful too!
During the Readathon:
Post lots of content about trans books! The dream is that every time a bookish post comes through someone's feed, it's about trans books!
Always use the hashtag #transrightsreadathon on these posts to boost visibility!
Interact with other creators participating in the readathon and using the hashtag!
After the Readathon:
Make a wrap-up video sharing how much you read, and remind your followers to donate to your chosen org!
Fill out the follow-up google form I will email you with wrap-up info
Encourage followers to keep reading books by trans authors, to keep supporting trans defense funds, and to keep fighting against hateful legislation!
You can sign up for this amazing readathon, which is organized by trans author Sim Kern, here.
