“Protecting Me From Myself”

(Ramblings & WIPs below cut!)

Who, me? Making Marble Hornets content? Never.

But actually, I have no idea what came over me with this. A few days ago I watched the entirety of the School Rumors webseries, and became so completely obsessed with it that it triggered me to watch and rewatch literally every analog horror series I could find to feel that high again, including, of course, Marble Hornets. And obviously, I can’t watch Marble Hornets without also watching Clear Lakes, and also Eckva, and then of course I HAD to read all of the comics again… (cough) and also some fanfiction (cough), and long story short, I put off a whole day’s worth of homework for tomorrow to work entirely on this all day. Will that come back to bite me? Almost definitely, but I don’t regret it, because this turned out cool as heck!

So… upon further reflection I realize that the concept behind this piece doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in canon? I was just thinking about Tim and Masky, as usual, and how (through the lens of a character frequently seen by the fandom as having DID) it is very interesting that Tim, in that altered state of mind, always forgets what happened as “Masky”, as if he’s protecting himself from what he’s seen, and how Masky could then be viewed as a sort of protector for Tim, even if he also frequently puts him in dangerous situations… and then I remembered halfway through drawing this that literally every single character in this stupid show has memory loss, and that that’s a very well-established part of the lore relating specifically to The Operator, not Tim, and it’s really not as deep as I was making it out to be in my head. So, uh.. feel free to interpret this artwork however you’d like, because you have as good an idea as I do now about what it’s supposed to represent lol

On a seemingly random Tuesday night, a few members of the Bat Family are free to spend dinner at the manner.

Jason was benched by his fellow Outlaws for a nasty hit to his chest and got tired of Biz’s worrying even if it was appreciated at first.

Dick had been taking a small break after a particularly bad case with work that involved some hurt children and wanted to be back home.

Damian had only ever made threats to move about but the newley eighteen year old was still at home.

Tim had been using his free time while Kon and Cassie visited their families to visit his own while Bart and Barry dragged Wally on a bonding trip. The poor West boy had to miss out a concert of some sort.

Stephanie, Duke and Cass were all busy with a case and had pleaded with Bruce to take some time off because he was, quote, “Broodier than Hamlet”. He eventually relented when Barbie and Kate promised to keep an eye on them.

The group had decided to watch a movie instead of playing games, mainly because not games were banned, and settled on something that Tim paid no mind to.

The problem came that it was cold out and everyone insisted on having the fire as hot as it could go, but Tim naturally ran hot. Jason and Damian tended to get the coldest and while only Jason would complain, Damian could and would set anything he wanted on fire to get warm.

So, Tim didn’t complain and just said he was going to get changed.

He spent at least half an hour on one of the arm chairs by himself with his tablet playing RuneScape, when Dick inhaled so quickly everyone heard it.

Tim assumed it was something to do with the movie and didn’t turn, tapping away at his screen, completely ignorant to Dick’s quickly forming tears.

It was when Bruce also made a noise, this time a poorly pronounced ‘oh’ that he turned around, assuming it had to be a truely grand thing for Bruce to react so openly in the movie.

Instead he finds his foster father and brothers staring at him.

More specifically, his thighs.

Tim hadn’t realised his shorts would ride up and stop covering him to just above his knee and show the hundreds of scars littered over the outside and inside of his pale skin. They were mostly faded, but with the width of some of them they were always going to be visible, especially with the sheer amount.

Pulling his pant leg down, Tim doesn’t bother to hide a sympathetic wince and says, “Sorry, didn’t meant to show them. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.”

He looks away again, assuming that was that and trying to remind himself that it wasn’t his fault that people were upset by his scars, just like Black Canary told him.

Instead he hears a sob and turns back to find Bruce holding Dicks hand as his oldest brother sobs into his hand. He sees that Jason is seemingly fighting to not match him even with his wide eyes and Damian is staring at him with confusion.

Realisation finds Tim quickly, which makes sense considering he’s supposed to be the ‘smart Robin’.

“You didn’t know…”

Dick stands up, dropping Bruce’s hand and comes to kneel before Tim, holding onto his own hands like some kind of follower to a god, “Why? I- I don’t- why?”

The desperation in his voice makes Tim feel sick, and he looks around at the others for help because surely he had talked to at least one of them about it? He had been open with his friends, and he hadn’t exactly kept it a secret, but he did avoid showing them…

Tim moves to hold onto Dick in return, “I’m sorry, I thought you guys knew-… okay, look, I’ve got a two year clean streak and I’m in therapy, okay? I’m so sorry Dick, I just assumed you knew cause I use the shower in the cave with you guys and… I’m so sorry.”

There’s a silence for a moment as Dick drags him into his arms and squeezes him as tightly as he can, not even being careful like he usually would.

“I don’t understand.”

Damian’s voice sounds uncharacteristic in how small it is. He’s staring at Tim’s legs like he might be able to catch a glimpse of the scars in genuine confusion.

Bruce seemingly can’t speak and so Jason tries his best to explain to the youngest Wayne boy, “Look, bra-kid, some times when people aren’t doing to well they… they hurt themselves. Tim…”

Giving his brother a smile, Tim takes over as tears finally break away from Jason. Jason was always the most emotional and that’s evident in how he actually lets Bruce pull him into a side hug.

“Dami, you know how my parents kind of sucked?”

Damian makes a scoff noise, “I know they were incompetent, yes.”

Smiling, Tim continues as his eyes grow wet with the sound of his families cries, “Well, I really wanted to good for them but they had impossible standards. When I found I couldn’t reach them, I decided I needed punishment. So…” he takes a deep inhale and moves a hand to Dick’s head to comfort him as he finishes. “I started to cut myself.”

Damian doesn’t get wide eyes or anything, and Tim thinks it’s so much worse that there’s an image understanding in his little brothers eyes that show he sees that as completely logical.

But it is quickly overcome, his first thought always what he was raised with and quickly followed by the ideals he’s learnt and now values. He doesn’t cry either, but he does have a look of a pure heart break in his sweet little eyes.

Bruce finally comes over and pulls his two sons into a hug, adjusting to fit Jason in and saying nothing as Damian comes up behind Tim and leans his head against the others back.

Bruce asks other a few minutes of holding each other, “You said you haven’t for two years?”

Tim smiles once again and presses a kiss to his dad’s cheek. “Yeah. I learnt that family, real family like ours, would never want physical punishment, especially for something we can’t control. That’s not how loving people work.”

Damian moves to wrap his arms around Tim in their first ever hug and by all gods and mighty beings is Tim glad he stuck around.

Hugs from his family was well worth it.

okay while my head is still reeling about whatever the hell it is these writer's have up their sleeves regarding seth, and how that could connect to lucy/chenford..... let's say for whatever reason she does end up in the hospital because of him.... 🤷‍♀️ what if we got a scene that circles back to that closing scene of her showing up at tim's door regarding her concerns about seth??? and tim's just kicking himself in the waiting room because she warned him of this. or tried to warn him, but he didn't take her worries seriously enough. and now she's fighting for her life and it's all my fault.

Hear me out- the new spin off went straight to series because they got a big name behind it, and since it’s set in Nashville it’s safe to assume there could be a character that’s very heavily musically influenced, so my guess for who that big name celebrity is is that it’s a musician and not an established actress, but they want to be.

This person said they’re taking a break from making music therefore acting would not be an obstacle for them.

They also don’t work by pop star rules of releasing every 2-3 years to keep them relevant, because their talent alone does that for them.

There was speculation that they will release an album dedicated to the lgbtq+ community after a beloved 911 couple broke up, and no (yes) it’s not my delusion telling me the album is about them, but that person is a big 911 fan after they said so in their past Vegas residency. They were probably bought in by 7x04.

Therefore this is probably how we get Tommy in the spin off. They asked for the character to be included. And the other one big actor that only comes in for one season like Connie will probably be Tommy’s love interest, until og can be cancelled at 9x11 so Oliver can reprise his role as Buck and be a neighboring fire house captain and a main in season two. This is the red string taking affect people!!

They’ll ask for Oliver not only so Buck and Tommy can be complete, but because both Oliver and this person are British. This celebrity likes Jamaica (with photo evidence) and Oliver has claimed his accent has sometimes been confused for the Jamaican one. There’s comfort and familiarity there.

Also this celebrity working in air ops makes sense because how else will they set fire to the rain and then fight it if you do it from the ground? You can’t.

Tim had his arm wrapped around his pillow. His hand rested by his chin and his wrist hovered by his mouth. He couldn't help but drag his lips across the raised scars that lived there.

Tim didn't cut himself, not anymore, not in a long time. But the scars were still there and they felt good against his lips. They felt like desire. He wouldn't, not again, but there were nights like this. Nights where he wanted nothing more grab a blade and satisfy the thing in his brain.

It was so casual, it always had been. Tim never really understood the big deal around it. He understood it was unfortunate when people died, but why would God put such a prominent vein in such a tempting place if it wasn't meant to be cut open?

Tim dragged his lips over his wrist again.

Alfred had cried when he found out. Back when Tim was still cutting he'd gotten hurt on patrol. Alfred was patching him up and had seen the bandages on his shoulder were bleeding through. At first, he'd admonished Tim for hiding injuries, but he'd quieted when he unwrapped Tim's arm. He just stared, cried, and quietly finished patching Tim up. Tim didn't say anything either. He couldn't even meet Alfred's eyes.

Tim nipped at his skin.

He thinks Alfred told Bruce because Bruce had asked him about it. Tim didn't deny anything. He supposed there should be shame in it, with the way people always reacted. And he'd been embarrassed when Alfred found out, but that was because he was the first to know. He didn't know what he felt when Bruce confronted him, but he didn't want to talk about it.

Tim sighed.

Bruce tried to get to the bottom of it. He assumed Tim had a reason because he was a detective and everything had a reason. He asked Tim invasive questions about his home life, his school life, if being Robin was too much. Tim was fine, he told Bruce as much. If he had a reason before it was long gone now. It was casual; a hobby just as much as photography was.

Tim rolled over in bed, letting his hand trail down to run the bumpy lines on his thighs.

Bruce didn't like that answer. He made Tim stop, checked him every other day. Tim hated it, but it worked. He didn't cut himself anymore. Of course it took a couple weeks of Bruce whining and complaining, but he did stop eventually. It made him antsy. His blood felt like it was burning in his veins, like it needed to get out. He wanted to let it out, but he couldn't. Honestly, Tim felt like he was holding onto Robin by a string. It was the last semi-good thing left in his life.

Tim stared at his ceiling, contemplating.

By the time Tim was 17, Jason was back, Damian was Robin, he was a CEO, and Alfred was dead. If he ever had a reason before he definitely had one now. Besides, Bruce didn't even check him anymore. No one would know. He still didn't see the huge problem.

If there was one it wasn't stopping Tim from going to his desk.

It didn't stop him from grabbing the boxcutter.

It didn't stop him from taking it to his wrist for the first time in years.

I’m not going to list off EVERY change and minute detail I added here because it’s currently 1AM, but here’s a handful of fun things that I can remember off the top of my head: I changed Jay, Brian, and Seth’s eye colors to be more accurate, cut Brian’s hair for the 2006, 2012, and comic refs, gave Seth a second crutch, gave Jay and Tim some scars (Tim’s being a bit more depressing in origin than Jay’s), and I made post MH Tim have some gray hairs because there’s NO WAY that man doesn’t have the world’s worst anxiety disorder in the present day… also he has Jay’s hoodie tied around his waist because I thought it would be sad and I was right :)))

Opinions overall are the same as last season BUT I will critique that Jackson’s death felt abrupt like it had good emotional moments but overall it felt abrupt like when talia just dipped between seasons
