hi ! first of all thank you SOOOOOO much that means sm to me it genuinely makes me so happy to know that you enjoy my writing. !!

speaking of writing..it took me a while to figure out a system i was comfortable with. i'm a little all over the place in general and that translates a lot in my drafts ESPECIALLY LMFAOO if you caught one glance at my drafts it's mostly just a prompt of a few sentences and w spelling mistakes in every word cus i write them down so fast so as not to forget them LMFAOOO. but it really works for me !

i know a lot of people say it but it really works, literally just write ! it doesn't have to come out as a full beautifully crafted piece immediately, just write down anything you can and polish it up all you want later ! forcing inspiration to come to you almost always has the opposite effect, for me anyways !

for flow, i think i like to mostly write dialogue between characters out first and then write my descriptions and actions around that ! i always get more excited about writing dialogue more than descriptions (not that those can't be fun ofc !)

oh , this might help for imagery ! and idk if you've noticed but the structure of a lot of my writing is heavily based on animes and manga. like the set ups and punchlines. (massive nerd ik) like if you read some of my one shot's like this one, this one (probably one of my fav fics i've done btw) or my first born series FBRC, (especially this part) (this part was actually the one i was most excited to write, and it's heavily based off of kobayashi's dragon maid's actual good and not weird moments and soundtrack, listening to music also helps me out a lot too!)

i try to model my speech to what i think an anime episode of the scenario i thought about would look like. visualizing my writing helps me write a lot as well, if that helps ! a little fun fact for you, fujimoto's writing has influenced a lot of the way i describe situations in fics, since i really like the sorta 'childish' descriptions over super fancy ones (cus i can't write those, but i don't really like them veerry much, but a lot of them are enjoyable to read!!) i find it very endearing and it's one of the reasons why i enjoy writing childhood friends to lovers so much. it's this sorta simplistic level of thinkin that kids have if that makes sense and it works out really well if you wanna write fluffy pieces if that makes sense

some examples ! :

"he drags you around a little too hard but it's to show you something he knows you'd like and you repay him by being patient with him and letting him drag you around to his hearts content. he let’s you use the crayons he’d just denied another classmate seconds ago and when it’s really early in the morning and you’re still sleepy unlike your more energetic friend, he waits for you. sitting with you in the reading corner quietly commenting on a little bit of everything in the book you’re sharing until you’re awake enough to start the day because katsuki wanted you to be together through anything no matter what, starting the day without you was simply unimaginable."

"despite his quieter presence he always seemed to stand out to you. his bag is big enough to carry everything he needs without having to shove anything inside or leaving it half opened. he wipes his mouth with a tissue after he's done eating his lunch alone and his handwriting is pretty. his lashes are long and he's pretty."

there are a lot of other examples (im OBSESSED with this trope can you tell.) i like these sorts of simplistic childish ways of love. tiny little specks of affection that make the heart so much fonder in such little big ways..if that makes sense :>

i dunno if im just very..special, but since i have a lot of oc's and scenarios constantly flowing in my brain, most of my ideas just tend to be what i dreamed about the night before, or what i daydreamed about LMAOO. even random things that happened to me at school sorta go from "oh it would be funny if this happened to [insert character]" and then they snowball into more and more thorough ideas !

and of course as cheesy as it is the most important part is to have fun ! i cannot stress enough how important it is to be in the mindset when you're writing. it's like when people say to force yourself to draw so you don't 'lose it.' and i do think it can work to jog inspiration, but i believe that as long as you enjoy it, you'll never truly lose it. so i say, write when you feel like it and don't write if you don't, it can truly be very draining. but it's all up to what feels better for you !

Chainsaw Man - Tatsuki Fujimoto   Ch. 98-132: A Disappointed Commentary and Overall Impressions.

LISTEN. If you’re as sensitive about your faves as I am, don’t read this. I’m bummed with Part 2 and it shows. (But, hey, I’m looking forward to reading more?)

-This Asa has had more introspection in twenty pages than Denji has had in his entire lifetime (this is a neutral comment).

-Holy shit, this escalated. Mr Tanaka, really now?

-I kinda like Yoru. And Yoru alone.

-Your goal is to defeat Chainsaw Man and mine is to actually see him... I don’t care about Asa that much.

-Oh Denji, u in Asa’s manga too?

-I like Denji, give me more Denji, omg, this is my nightmare scenario of endless chapters focused on characters you’re not interested in, I’ve feared this for a while.

-Where is everyone? Why has everyone left Denji alone? Like, in life.

-I don’t like that Denji is a side-character!

-Pls, Nayuta, save the story :’(

-At anyone who might be reading this and is enjoying the story: I am very, very happy that you do, I’m jealous. I am so disappointed though. I’m disappointed that Denji is not the MC, yes, but also, Asa is not compelling to me, there’s no side-characters with spark and just life, the setting is underwhelming - a school after Public Safety, I don’t see any interesting dynamics right now. Basically, what compelled me in the first arc just isn’t here. I see people saying to wait, that things will peak and twist and turn, and, well, yes, of course they might, but that doesn’t make up for the things that haven’t worked for me so far. But yes, please reframe those things, please, make me eat my words and shock me into adoring the arc! I beg! I beg to be wrong!

-There’s a lot of bread crumbs for the future, I won’t deny that. Yoshida’s random organization, Nayuta herself, the prophecy, the contract with Power of course, but... give us something concrete :’(.

-In a weird way though, it has me wanting to read on and on and then some, just to see Denji and see where on earth this is going.

-And now Nayuta has the spotlight, phew, I can breathe again. And more Denji! We’re ending the binge-read on a positive note.

Overall Impressions: Part 1: Love and adoration, fun, ridiculousness, excitement, pain and heartbreak, shock and respect. Sometimes the plot gets convoluted. Denji, Aki and Power are one of my favorite gangs. I love all the side-characters, I love Denji, I love the character development, I love to hate Makima, I love the panel composition. Part 2: I’m bummed and curious. Not enough Denji, but I’m delighted when Denji and Nayuta appear. For the moment weak side-characters. Lots of hints for potentially exciting things to come. Lacks the visual oomph of Part 1 because of lackluster setting. I don’t vibe with Asa.

hi fang i would like to know our opinion on this because your brain is very big and i like your takes. so, on the discourse of mangakas who write women well and those who doesn't i don't get why gege akutami is considered one of those who write them badly and fujimoto writes them well, i like both authors and their work a lot, is just that when it comes to their female characters, i think akutami has given more background and development (eg. my beloved maki), what do you think?

i think i agree w u mostly but i'd say it's largely because of how akutami is telling the story vs how fujimoto is telling the story.

but the way akutami writes women is unique because it pays like. real attention to developing their stories and making them feel ? more tangible with their own separate lives. all of the female characters in fujimotos works thus far are well written but exist within the context of the protagonist if that makes any sense? but i think that goes for EVERY character fujimoto writes especially with csm. like even aki feels like a side character though he has a story and that probably has to do with the later reveal and how csm is set up. though i think firepunch (fujimotos other work) follows a similar structure.

but akutami writes characters like nobara and maki outside of the context of like itadori and that's because for akutami and jjk - the story centers on the world and less on the protagonist if you get what i mean? it's not super itadori centric to begin with so the characters written are detached from him and therefore FEEL more developed in a lot of ways.

tldr im on the same page but it has more to do w how each author individually tells stories!!

Chainsaw Man Pochita Fan Theory (manga spoilers)

I've been thinking about this all day, and I can't tell if I'm onto something or if I'm having a Pepe Sylvia moment, so thoughts would be appreciated.

Spoilers ahead

When a devil eats another devil, specifically its heart, it gains the powers and traits of that devil. I think that in reality, Pochita is actually the dog devil, and has eaten the Chainsaw Devil, which originally had the conceptual erasure powers.

It makes sense as Pochita, first off, looks like a dog, and dogs don’t have much to do with chainsaws.

The relationship between Chainsaws and being able to completely erase something conceptually, is shaky too, so it might be possible that the Chainsaw devil had eaten another devil in the past as well.

We know that devil cannibalism is an extremely rare occurrence, since devils don’t like the taste of devil blood. This explains why Pochita is an extremely rare occurrence.

If devils don’t like the taste of other devils, one of the reasons why they would eat another would be due to direct confrontation, or self preservation. 

Pochita is injured when we first meet him; it may have been because he just defeated the chainsaw devil, who may have wanted to eat him for some reason. 

This also adds another layer to the Gun Devil’s motives. It may have wanted Pochita’s heart, since he was a real threat, but it might have been aware that eating his heart would grant him the powers of the chainsaw.

We also know that eating pieces of the gun devil’s flesh makes a devil stronger. We saw the fish devil had some mechanical legs, which may be due to eating a piece of the gun devil. 

Strong devils that are more conceptual, like the Future Devil, and the Falling Devil, tend to have more abstract features, suggesting that they have eaten devils before, with similar aesthetic features. 

One of the biggest motifs in Chainsaw Man is eating. I think that devils avoid eating other devils since it's basically cannibalism, but on the off chance that they do, they gain the others’ traits. It’s a very literal “you are what you eat.” 

Fujimoto is also constantly talking about food in the author notes. While they seem random on the surface, a lot of his notes may contain references to chapters. Fujimoto mentions the manga Aku no sawa by Shūzō Oshimi. The character Sawa Nakamura somewhat resembles Makima, both in personality, appearance and role. Fujimoto was probably inspired by her, along with Haruko and Benten to create Makima.

Reference to the One Shot "Kirisuke and Johnny 499-person Massacre" by Shunji Enomoto, from which the chapter clearly takes inspiration as both deal with characters beheading people with style. As an additional fact, in the volume 5 extras, Fujimoto drew Kuzuhara, a character from a manga called "Enomoto" by the same author.

A manga called "Abara" (by Tsutomu Nihei) is mentioned . Chainsaw Man has taken a lot of inspiration from this work, for example, the protagonists of both manga are called Denji and in both there is a female character named Nayuta. Also the designs of the hybrids resemble the Gaunas of "Abara". ‘

I’m not saying that every author’s note is some subtle hint, but I think it's possible that all his talk about food isn’t entirely just about what he ate recently, but maybe something more subtle. We all know Fujimoto likes to fuck with us.

From here on, things get a little flimsier, but I want to say it anyway. 

People don’t seem as afraid of the Chainsaw Devil as they should be. Normally they should be frightened by his appearance, but the general consensus seems to be mixed. We had the Spider-Man 2 homage scene, where the old lady gives Denji her blood and the people saw him as a protector. I think this is due to Denji being the dog devil, and people may unconsciously perceive it as such. Dogs can be dangerous, but they can also be man’s best friend. Denji doesn’t really act like a dog until he fuses with Pochita, and his behavior becomes more doglike. While it's a pretty obvious motif throughout the series, I think there is a possibility that this could be taken more literally. Denji, being a hybrid, has the personality as well as the powers of Pochita. 

The ending of Part 1. Cannibalism was pretty prevalent in Fire Punch, and it's also touched on here. Since we don’t know too much about what exactly happens when a devil eats another devil, I’m thinking it may become a plot point in the future. 

Tldr: Pochita is actually the dog devil and gained his powers by eating the chainsaw devil.

THE ART IS FUCKING COOL esp if ur a body horror fan it's just amazing. it's also very good if u are a big softie i will just say this. i am Very Sensitive emotionally and im p sure the mangaka is soft as hell also LMAOAOAO u can just tell fr the way he treats his characters. I COULD GO ON AND ON let me stop now HELPPP but i would be so delighted to talk abt it with u if u get into it. it WAS scheduled to get an anime adaptation this month actually LMFAO mappa is animating it but that got pushed back apparently (which im actually glad abt because it would've been completely overshadowed by csm and that would've made me sad </3). Oh my gosh, Safiyah. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed writing this. While I love ‘Match-Up’s there’s just something about ‘One-Shots’ that just hold a special place in my heart. “You’re staring again.”

The familiar warmth made its way across my face. “Am not?” I muttered as I crossed my arms and turned away from the boy standing beside me.

“Uh, huh. Sure.” Rin chuckled. “I know you like Yukio, (Y/N). I don’t know why you don’t just tell him.”

“I could never do that!”

“Not like you don’t make it super obvious, anyways.” Rin grinned as he poked my cheek.

“You know I hate you, right?” I glared.

“Please, you know you love me.” He chuckled as he put his arms behind his head.

The idiot had me there. Hell, Rin was one of my best friends. You see Rin, Yukio, and I have been best friends ever since we were little. We used to always hang out together, but at some point, Yukio began to drift from us. Training and studying began to take more precedence instead of hanging out with us. Then, all of a sudden our trio had turned into a duo. I turned back and watched as Yukio and Mr. Fujimoto practiced their combat skills. He had said he wanted to join the True Cross Organization to become an Exorcist to help people. Yukio’s goal has always been to help people; ever since we were little that had been his dream. I always admired his ambition. It was just one of the many things I loved about him. But, as much as I hated to admit it, it hurt that I couldn’t see him as much as I used to.

After the two were done training Yukio made his way over to us.

“What are you guys up to today? It’s a beautiful day. To be honest, I’m a little surprised you two don’t want to go outside the monastery.”

“Aw, Yukio. Are you trying to get rid of us, little bro?”

“No. It’s just, usually, you, of all people, have a hard time staying in one spot.”

“Hey. What’s that’s supposed to mean?” Rin barked, getting into Yukio’s face.

I chuckled as I watched the two brothers bicker. Of course, Rin would take Yukio’s words the wrong way. Yukio loved Rin, even if he drove him up a wall time and time again.

“(Y/N).”

I turned to the voice who pulled me out of my thoughts. “Yeah?”

“I heard that Decadent Darkness was having a special on that cake you love.” “You don’t mean…” I said as my mouth began to water. “Yep. Ari came by earlier when she was visiting Dad and told him.” He chuckled.” Ari was the owner of Decadent Darkness, my favorite bakery. They had the most amazing chocolate cake. “(Y/N) we should go!” Rin yelled excitedly as he grabbed my hands. I wasn’t the only one with a huge sweet tooth. Rin was like a huge kid when it came to sweets. I looked back over at Yukio to notice him staring at Rin. There was a look of annoyance spread across his face, but it disappeared as soon as his eyes met mine.

“Yeah. The two of you should go. I’ve got some studying I’ve got to get back to, anyways.” “Oh, man. Come on let’s go, (Y/N).” Rin grabbed my hand and began to run towards the front gate. “Rin, dinner starts at 6. Don’t be late again, please.” Yukio called out. Just as we were about to exit I turned and looked back at Yukio. He was still smiling, but why did his eyes look so sad.

It had been months since that day. And, here you were, currently sitting in class at True Cross Academy. You were supposed to be listening to Yukio’s lecture, but your thoughts began to wonder. You watched as Yukio wrote something on the board. It still amazed you. Yukio was your teacher. You guys were the same age, but because of all his hard work, he was able to skip ahead of the line. He truly was amazing. However, it seemed the distance between the two of you had just grown even more. The more you thought about it, the more it scared you. You didn’t want to lose him. So, you studied and trained your ass off to be the best Exwire you could in hopes to shorten the gap you felt between the two of you.

For a while you felt things were going great, Yukio was starting to become a more prominent figure in your life. He saw how hard you were working and decided to become your mentor. You couldn’t have been any more excited. Being mentored by Yukio meant you’d be taught by one of the best, but that also meant you would get to spend a lot of one on one time with him. Slowly but surely that gap that had been growing between the two of you slowly began to melt away. But, nothing good lasts for long, right?

Once Sheimi joined your class you began to worry. They seemed to have some sort of history together. Sheimi seemed to obviously have a crush on him and you could tell Yukio held a soft spot for her. You wanted to ask him about it, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to do it. Over time it just slowly began to eat at you more and more.

“(Y/N), are you okay?” Yukio asked suddenly while you two were in the middle of sparring.

“Huh, yeah? Why do you ask?”

“I don’t know. You just seem to be a little distracted lately.” There it was. That same look you had seen all those months ago.

“I’m fine, Yuki. I promise.”

He seemed to want to say something, but he decided against it. “Alright, then.”

I didn’t like thinking about the possibility that they could like each other so when I wasn’t training I tried to distract myself. My perfect distraction being Rin. He was always able to pull me out of my funk. However, he could always tell something was wrong. After weeks of me moping about, he couldn’t hold back anymore.

“Okay. (Y/N), what’s going on? And, don’t lie to me. We’ve been friends for years. I know when something’s going on with you. You’ve been moping around for weeks now. So, what’s going on?”

“Rin, It’s not important. Besides, it’s girl stuff. I don’t think you really want to hear about it.” I said chuckling, trying to brush the conversation aside. However, I should have known Rin wouldn’t let it go.

“Try me, (Y/N).” He smiled warmly.

Damn. He always was able to get me talking.

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” I smiled, shaking my head.

“Rin, I don’t have time to talk right now. I’ve got a mission I have to get ready for.”

“I promise this won’t take long.”

Yukio sighed as he turned to face his brother. “What is it?”

“Rin, of course, I like (Y/N). We’re friends. What kind of question is that? Now, if that’s all I’m sorry, but I have to go.” He turned to leave, but Rin’s next words froze him in place.

“Yukio, you idiot. I know you’re friends. I’m asking if you have feelings for her.” Rin said, rolling his eyes.

Yukio stood with his back facing Rin contemplating his next words.

“Why are you asking me-” “Just answer the question, Yukio. Do you like, (Y/N)?”

“Rin, I really don’t have time for this.”

Rin just glared at Yukio. He knew his brother had feelings for you, but he was just too stubborn to admit it.

“Whatever.” Rin turned to walk away, but stopped. “(Y/N) deserves someone better, anyways.” Yukio’s eyes widened. What?

Before he could respond Rin left.

Yukio just stood there staring at where Rin once stood. He couldn’t help the nervous, jealous feeling that rose up within him.

Yukio had been talking with Shura when he heard you speak. Rin’s words echoing in his head. ‘(Y/N) deserves someone better, anyways.’ He turned his gaze over to you and Rin, watching the two of you with furrowed brows.

“You’ve really gotten good at your swordsmanship, (Y/N).” Rin smiled. “Do you think you could give me some pointers sometime?”

“Really? I mean I have been practicing a lot lately. I’m glad to know all my hard work is paying off.” I rubbed the back of my neck as a warm blush spread across my cheeks. “Wait, you want ‘me’ to give you pointers?”

“Yeah. If you don’t mind. It’s just your movements are so smooth and besides, Shura is a little mean.” He slumped down puffing out his cheeks, causing me to chuckle.

“I’m flattered, Rin. But, that’s exactly why I can’t help you. She’s scary. I sure as hell ain’t going to risk her wrath for you.”

“What no, please!?” Rin clung to me trying to hug me into submission.

“Rin!” I chuckled. “No!”

All of a sudden a shadow appeared over us.

“Get off her. Now!”

“Huh?” We both looked up in confusion only to see Yukio. And, he looked pissed.

“Yukio, what’s-” Before I could finish my question, Yukio had grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me away from Rin.

“Hey, Yukio! What are you doing?” He didn’t say a word as he kept on walking. I looked back at Rin confused to see him smirking at me. What?

Once we had reached a small clearing in the woods far from the others Yukio let go of my hand.

At first, we just stood there as the sounds of the forest filled in the silence between us. Yukio stood in front of me, however, all I could see was his back as it rose and fell rapidly. At some point, he had broken out into a run after he had pulled me away from Rin so it’s no wonder he was a little out of breath. After another moment I decided to break the silence.

“Yukio, what’s going o-”

“(Y/N), I’m sorry I…”

There was that look again. That same sad, pleading look I have seen so many times before. “Why do you always make that face?” I whispered.

“Huh?”

“Whenever you look at me...Your eyes...They look so sad.”

Yukio’s cheeks turned red. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I did that.“

Silence began to settle between you two. Suddenly you just decided to ask the questions that had been on your mind for months now.

“Do you like Sheimi?” Sheimi? “You like her, don’t you?” Yukio’s face blushed. “What, no? (Y/N)-” He began to panic. “Wait, you think I like Sheimi?” I looked up into his eyes. “Don’t you? I mean you two always seem so-”

Suddenly, I was interrupted as Yukio pulled me into a searing kiss.

He moved his hands to softly cup either side of my face. I was too stunned to move. When he moved to pull away all I could do was stare at him with wide eyes.

That’s when I realized...Yukio shared my feelings. Yukio…A blush began to spread across my cheeks. I felt him begin to slowly pull away from me, but he suddenly stopped when he felt my hands wrap around his. I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his. Yukio didn’t hesitate to reciprocate as he sifted his hand through my hair and pulled me in closer.

After a couple minutes, we finally pulled apart.

“I love you, (Y/N).” He said resting his forehead against mine.

“I love you, too, Yukio,” I said hugging him. “Although, if I can be a bit honest, this feels like such a dream right now.”

“I know. Here all this time I thought you liked, Rin.” He mumbled.

“What? No. Rin’s like a brother to me,” I chuckled. “Besides he’s known since we were kids that I liked you.”

Yukio chuckled. “It looks like I owe Rin an apology.”

“Yeah. I’d say so.” I giggled.

“But, that’ll have to wait. Right now, we have a few years to make up for.” He smirked.

Then once more I was pulled into his searing kiss.

“Yukio…” (Y/N) chuckled nudging me.

I sighed and bowed. “I’m sorry, Rin.”

“Aw, no hard feelings, little bro.” Rin scooped me up in a tight hug. “Don’t let her go this time, you idiot.” He whispered into my ear.

When I pulled away a dumb smirk was plastered against Rin’s face. “Now who’s up for some burgers, yeah?”

I just chuckled. I’m glad she has someone like you looking out for her, Rin. But, don’t worry.

I smiled down at (Y/N) as I took her hand in mine. I’m not letting her go.

Ponyo on the cliff by the sea

this movie is so incredibly cute! I watched Ponyo (2008) dir. Miyazaki subbed because I cannot handle listening to celebrities voice act lmao. I’ve my live reaction to rewatching it on my twitter, here’s the [thread]. 

The first quote that I’ll be looking at is:

“Disgusting! Such Filth! Intolerable.” - Fujimoto (ponyo’s father)

When Fujimoto chases after Ponyo in his submarine ship thing he almost crashes into the boat passing over the road. In the frames before he goes underwater we see rubbish passing and hitting him over the head. The water still looks blue/green, and clear. 

However, when he submerges the water is a darker, murky green and our attention is brought to the dirt and grime of the bottom of the water. 

The paddles of his boat upturn the dirt and it sticks to him as he passes. Fujimoto holds a great disdain for the human race, and we can see why in this sequence of events. He’s now a magic scientist that lives in the ocean. He later warns Ponyo about the dark sides of humans. The ‘intolerable’ parts of humans is shown throughout the movie, where trash floats around in the water and washes up on the shores or sits at the bottom of the ocean floor.

This is part of a conversation between Fujimoto and Granmamare (ponyo’s mother) about Ponyo’s powers and how to grant her wish. This is reminiscent of the fairytale, The Little Mermaid, the mermaid turns to sea foam when she is unable to have her love returned by the prince, and she cannot bring herself to kill him. Ponyo’s parents decide to test Sousuke’s love for Ponyo. 

Ponyo takes inspiration from The Little Mermaid, the movie is based on the story, and follows the transformation aspect of the fairytale. Ponyo’s desire to be human mirrors the little mermaid’s desire. Although, Ponyo is able to turn herself into a human as she plays the part of the witch and the mermaid with her magic powers.

That’s time set day everyone! We’re replacing the water blocks with air blocks and everything is back to how it should be. The water recedes and Lisa and Sousuke reunite with Koichi, and Ponyo gives Sousuke a big kiss and finishes her transformation into a real human being! We, as the viewers, have been taken on a journey of these two kids and they wonderful love. Sousuke proves that he loves Ponyo so much, he accepts her as she is (ex-fish). 

here’s my question to you! have you ever experienced a love so pure you would lose all your magic powers and become a human being to be with them?

the dragonfly analogy regarding to geto’s response to gojo, who was shown wearing a dragonfly patterned yukata in HI arc,, i’m trying to not think abt the fact that dragonfly symbolized victory in jpn....pain. i quoted from a web here for more explanation : In Japan the dragonfly is known as the "victory insect", or kachimushi, because of its hunting prowess and also because it is known to never retreat. Shura would never agree to go out with Mephisto

So unless he used some weird demonic potion on her

She was supposed to find a man and have a baby for Hachiro anyway right?

Ofc she likes father Fujimoto at first, but he wasn’t exactly receptive

She likes a strong and collected man, but someone who can be fun as well, and show her a good time

So Mephisto would go on an exorcist mission alongside her and some other exorcists, and demonstrate his strength killing the demons instantly

They have a casual lunch and get to know each other

Shura isn’t interested straight away, more impressed then anything

She doesn’t really care he’s a demon because she grew up around demons, so she’s used to them

He knows that Shura will openly flirt with a guy she likes

So he tries to get closer to her, and takes her to many places

He takes her shopping, and out for meals, but is a gentlemen throughout

However he is fun and lets loose, so she doesn’t think he’s too uptight and another dad type like Shiro had become

He then ignored her for a while, once he knew she liked him

Then he waited for her to come to him

Amaimon seducing a girl:

In Gehenna, if he was interested in a girl, he’d have her

So he wouldn’t know Assiah was much different

He would just grab them

Or poke their face

Yukio’s always been going through shit, but the fandom tends to write him off as the “mean” character and leave it at that. Kato finally decides to drop the bass, and now we’ve collectively shifted over to “Yukio, what the fuck”, because now he’s being angry at characters other than me, now. This stupid (persuasive) essay’s gonna look at Yukio’s personality and troubles, a little deeper than “Yukio’s mean to Rin :(”. Also, I’m biased as fuck and have only good things to say about this boy. Let’s roll.

Let’s start from the beginning, what we all universally know about Yukio as a baby. Yukio started training to be an exorcist very fucking early. It’s partially due to schizophrenia, partially due to his desire to take (what’s that one meme right now) Direct Action to supposedly protect me from the outside world. His theory was basically if I’ve always been protecting him in the physical world, he had the upper hand in the… supernatural world? Sure, let’s call it that.

Yukio’s seven years old, deathly afraid of guns and loud noises, but continues along with dad to be the best fucking exorcist at an even younger age than Fujimoto, just for one little asshole that still throttles him on a regular basis. He wants to follow dad, because dad is literally the Paladin, and almost the first thing you learn is the True Cross Exorcist categories and stature. Yukio was lucky our dad was who he was, and took advantage of that.

Growing up, Yukio was only ever working. Think about it. Going to school like a good boy, doing his homework, constantly disappearing on exorcisms, and then doing that homework too. Because he’s so little, he has to be Great. He doesn’t have time to be The Little Boy Exorcist, he has to kick everyone’s ass (Shura included) so that they never think of him as too delicate or inferior. This is where when you guys go “he thinks he’s so important *eye roll*” I physically feel my toes catch on fire.

So his childhood was maturing too fast. Maturing too fast, no matter the reason, is never a good thing. It means something bad happened, or is happening. Yukio isn’t mature because he’s such a mentally healthy boy. The rod up his ass is there, but it’s caked with maturity way before his time (idk how to phrase that). Yukio was naturally very smart, but he was still a kid. But there’s no time to be afraid of butterflies. You have to follow dad, who everyone looks up to, including you. You need to be where dad is.

Dad is also… dad. You may not have seen much of Fujimoto, but from what you did see you can kind of see, he wasn’t very good at being “fatherly” because he never wanted/planned to be. Two baby demons were just sort of plopped in his arms. Bless his soul, but that man wasn’t what Yukio needed emotionally. Ever wonder why the poor boy misses a mother he never had? He knows mom equals soft. Mom equals comfort, affection, love… whatever you want to say, mom means something different from Fujimoto, in Yukio’s eyes.

Yukio clings to that because he lacks it. I’m not like that, dad wasn’t like that, and mom’s been dead since literally our birth. So forgive him for fantasizing about someone who’s maybe gentle with him, or stops and asks him genuinely how he’s doing. He’s feeling a lack of caring, whether he registers it or not. It’s not like he’s going to ask for it or anything, b-baka! We’ll come back to this in a few paragraphs.

Yukio needs to be the best. Not because he wants to be looked up to, not because he wants to feel superior, but because he’s always behind. Even ahead of everything, he needs to be the best at a constant. He’s working up the ranks, but he needs to be able to take on everything. Not only that, but meet everyone’s raising expectations. Yukio? The Yukio? Yukio Okumura? If they think he can shoot three hobgoblins dead in mid-flight, he has to be able to do that.

Yukio does not think he’s better. He thinks he needs to be better, and is willing to do whatever that takes. In fact, that sentence might as well be his motto. Now we’re at Yukio at 15, when dad dies. What does Yukio do immediately? Question dad on following him. “Dad, you just died, should I kill myself too?” Now, he’s lost. Now, dad isn’t his superior, he has to impress people on his own and make it on his own.

I’m not denying we had troubles. He blamed me for dad, I was fucking livid he lied to me for half our life. But he’s human. Ish. He’s a baby, and where we see his early maturity, we have to understand he literally mentally age regresses. Those little scenes in the anime with him suddenly crying as a child because he’s scared? How it’s in that blank room, and is usually directed somehow to dad? That’s his coping mechanism that he’s alone as an adult now, at 15. He has to be.

Everything he is doing, he is doing for me. Remember that. Remember that’s his sole purpose to being an exorcist, and the only reason he yells and hits and is a total ass. It’s because he can’t show weakness, not to anyone. Because if he’s even gentle to one person, everyone’s going to hear about it. Don’t break down, don’t break down. Keep your chin high and be the fucking best. Don’t slip up. Don’t make mistakes.

Remember when you were 15? You might be that age or younger right now, but someday you’ll realize 15 is very young. Dude, I’m 18, and 16 y/os give me a headache. Yukio is young. He’s not even close to hormone maturity, and he’s scared shitless, all the time. But he’s a prodigy, so at 15, he has to act 25. That’s what he’s doing.

Yukio puts others needs in front of his own. He always does, even if it comes off as “mean”. Alright yeah, I do joke about how in the movie he was like “exorcists don’t save people, we kill demons”. WhOoP dE dOo I jUsT LoVe ShOoTiNg a GoOd DeMoN nOw AnD aGaIn. What are we, the republican presidential candidate? But look at all he does. The only times you have to argue are in Kyoto, when he was like, “shit, I guess the Vatican’s going to kill my brother.” But are you really going to hold it against him? He’s not going to argue with the higher ups, and get himself killed, who is arguably the best chance they have at actually getting me out of there. Off what y’all have seen, I happen to know he’s argued mercilessly with them. So basically, when they said death to Rin, they were done with him arguing already and he wouldn’t be of help.

In example of selflessness, Shura’s little arc. It’s a terrible example, but Yukio wasn’t there to kill Hachiro. He was there to assist Shura. I mean, Tiny Boy was like “hey I’m legal I’ll give u a baby so u can be reborn” even though he didn’t want to. Then, he concocted that stupid plan of tricking Serpent Man just to 100% get Shura out of her contract for good. But you know, Yukio’s mean and thinks he’s most important.

Yukio desperately needs something like what he’s searching out for in the recent chapters. Look at how he pried around for mom, and then continued to. Look at how he reacted with Sheimi. He’s trying to reach out, but what’s that Marina and The Diamonds “Numb” quote? “I can’t open up and cry, because I’ve been silent all my life?” That’s my boy. He probably doesn’t even know how, anymore.

Yukio had the potential to grow up really soft and sensual, but lost that ability with his desire to protect. So now, we’ve got this outer shell we see, which is cold and stiff and doesn’t show a lot of emotion. It isn’t because he’s mean. I see a lot of jokes about Yukio not wanting to open up about his feelings. You’re very right, but the joke part of it is where you’re still on the wrong idea.

Right now, Yukio’s going through demon bullshit. Demon bullshit means even more intense emotions he’s not even used to showing in the first place. You know how he’s aggressive, attacks, and then suddenly turns around and apologizes? That apology is genuine. He doesn’t even know what’s going on with him. It’s scaring him, too. I’m not saying his actions are justified. I’m not defending the fact he’s threatened and hurt people.

AND HEY HOW ABOUT THAT CHAPTER 93. That suicide isn’t just, oh look at me, I might as well. And it isn’t a sudden thought. (Side effects may include) suicidal thoughts or actions aren’t spontaneous and not thought out. Yukio wasn’t like, hey turns out True Cross sucks, time to bippity bop the fuck right out. As far as canon material goes, Yukio’s considered death since dad died. But is it really that crazy of a stretch to deny that? Yukio’s never been mentally stable.

I think my main beef is the fact sometimes even folks who see all this, don’t care. “Yeah but he’s reacting inappropriately”. Ah yes, sorry Oliver, I’m sure you would behave so much better in that situation. It’s easy to demonize (Heheh) a character and forget everything human about them. Yukio is very easy with that. It’s so, so easy to look at his “mean”-ness and go “man that kids an asshole, fuck him”. I did it too. But you have to remember he is (part) human, and he has emotions.

And if you want to argue I’m looking too deep, go ahead. But Kato’s stories are the most beautiful things to analyze and I know for a fact she’s not just shitting out some asshole character with no other redeeming qualities. She’s too respectful of every single one of her characters for that. Especially not in comparison to Astronerd, where Yukio stems from. Let’s talk about that for a sec, shall we?

Astronerd, in short, is a story about a boy named Yoshio Fujiko who loves astronomy. But he’s finally decided he’s done with that, and doesn’t want to be viewed as a freak anymore. He briefly talks about his bullying with it. He talks about his crush, Tezuka. He discovers she likes astronomy, too! But it’s okay that she does, “because she’s cute.”

Aliens suddenly come down to destroy earth, and tell Yoshio he’s the subject they’re going to cryogenically freeze to set as an example to other planets to never be like earth. He asks why was he born (*cough*), and they joke and say if someone figured that out they’d get a medal and the aliens would put on a display of fireworks instead of blowing the world up. “But, an inferior life form like you has no chance!”

Yoshio’s about to sign, when he gets a text from Tezuka (who he was mean to), still believing in him! So he gets on his little scooter and races to the school to apologize. Suddenly, there’s a huge crater. Yoshio’s tired, and the aliens are like “what the fuck! You’re killing yourself over an apology?” and he goes “no, it’s not the apology anymore.”

And, my favorite fuckin quote via my mom ever,

“I really was a fool… and fools don’t change unless they die!”

ANYWAY HE FUCKING MAKES IT (Kato told a mildly happy story?!) LIKE SOME E.T. BULLSHIT (and then determines life is too precious) apologizes to Tezuka, and admits he’s an astronerd! He then realizes he was born for realizing that, at that moment. And the aliens are like “shit! Fuck! He’s right! We gotta keep our promise…!”

If I was to go deeper into the summary, you’d see that Yoshio in a sense is a very watered down Yukio as far as things go. He suddenly thinks his life his hopeless, but upon almost dying, he gets a second chance, and ends up literally saving the world and discovering who he is. I’m not saying aliens are going to descend from the heavens and tell Yukio he’s actually an angel (it’s implied), but I think Kato’s planning on… basically explaining that Yukio figures himself out, and it betters him as a person (go Kato, go!)

In conclusion, Yukio is a complicated perfect boy (perfect boy) who needs (and deserves) lots of attention and affection whether he thinks he wants it or not. He’s stiff and mature because he needs to be, and he does everything he does for a selfless reason. He doesn’t want to be the best exorcist to fuck with people. You just gotta remember his original reason.

I don’t know what that was all about, but I kinda nervously shuffledaway from it because I had a feeling I didn’t want to know. But it was all overdeviantart and I couldn’t escape it.
