*sighs loudly* so i Was going to draw them but turns out my own design is too difficult for me to draw. but i'll be making this post anyway bc this au has been cooking for so long i might as well!

Featherless Flight AU

aka dca avian au where these fucks r BIRDS

(disclaimer this is a sun x moon au. it also deals with heavy themes such as child abuse, death, violence, and. ya know. wutever tws come with the apocalypse (also these will not be talked about in detail in this post))

nothing robotic in them. just feathers, blood, and bones. a lot of that stuff may be lost or break throughout their story! but lemme at least tell u wut they look like (without having my own drawings OTL (i only have a ref for their faces (which im not confident of)))

a quick note for both of their designs, they r both Fully Covered in feathers, including their arms and faces (yes they have arms And wings). the only places that dont have feathers is their lower legs and hands. they have anthropomorphic legs. and their face shape is also similar to a barn owl, as shown here (ignore the lack of mouths, idk wut to give them)

suns design! he has the coloring and general design of a sun conure. hes full of bright reds and yellows, tho the green is replaced with a bit of blue. he has multiple crests around his head that fluff up similar to a cockatiel but theyre in a way that make it look like rays. in the drawing above is wut they look like without their crests raised; that is their default. suns feet r grasping feet which r 2 toes in the front and 2 in the back. sun has high speed wings so aes a lot faster. (if u dont know wut any of this means i recommend u look it up, im a bird nerd) sun is also specifically an omnivore (them having different diets is actually plot relevant)

moons design next. moon is the color of a hyacinth macaw tho his anatomy is closer to an owl. he has one large crest on his head like a cockatoo. its also colorblind! since its anatomy is based mainly off of owls, for moons ability to see at night means he can see less colors. and bc hes more sensitive at night his eyes r always half closed in light, making it look sleepy despite being fully awake. moon has raptor feet with 3 toes in the front and 1 in the back. xis claws r also much larger than suns. moon has passive soaring wings which is better for longer flights. and moon is a carnivore :)

theres also an eclipse but their design is an enigma to me even in my own mind

but back to sun and moon! if anyone is curious moon uses he/it/xe pronouns while sun uses he/it/ae pronouns. they r both aroace and love each other deeply (qpr babyyyyy). sun is genderfluid while moon doesnt give a shit (agender).

sun is more bubbly and energetic. very much high energy bouncing off the walls. hes the kind of optimist where u cant tell if their "bright side"s r trying to help or be condescending. its a master at back handed compliments. heavily a perfectionist and will reach the point of screaming fits if wut he doesnt isnt perfect. ae has a lot of self image issues. ae hides a lot of aers lack of self confidence and doubt behind a wall of "im the best", tho that wall can crash very easily. a bit of a flirt, but mainly bc he just enjoys seeing how ppl react. he takes compliments from everyone but moons compliments r always the best

moon is lower energy and calmer. at least, he acts like it. hes more reserved and if it wasnt for sun he wouldnt have any friends or talk to ppl at all. he fears abandonment and sun is the only person who has stayed with him this whole time and is the only person he truly trusts. is very aggressive towards anyone it doesnt know. despite being shorter than sun (hes 6ft while sun is 7ft) it definitely does a good job at intimidating ppl. over time when xe becomes comfortable with someone xe will eventually calm down and show a bit of a softer side to them. when xes actually calm and likes someone xe can be a bit... chaotic :)

im honestly not sure where ill start their story since ive already thought about their childhood but i also wanna write about their adulthood as well. the story of their childhood mainly deals with the abuse they went through, then with adulthood theyre shoved into an apocalypse bc... y not :) (btw the apocalypse is mainly just bc ive been enjoying apocalypse aus a Lot lately and wanna write one. the child abuse is for their development and to show y they act the way they do. while it will be fun to write their development, i am by no means saying abuse is okay and this topic will be treated carefully and seriously.)

Agender is "not having a gender" or feeling a lack of gender

For me, I have a very complicated relationship with my gender that interesects with a lot of other facets of my life

So I find Agender to be the best descriptor of it. Mostly because I don't feel a strong connection with any gender expression. Quite literally, where I feel like there should be something, there is a void

I still do feel gender euphoria in some aspects, like when I find an outfit I really like to wear or when someone changes up the pronouns they use for me (Ae/Aer pronouns my beloved)

I'm on a badge making stall for IDAHOBIT, International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination (May 17). We're a youth focus community organisation.

I want to prepare a load of badge sized pride flags, and a load of pronouns, so queer people can make badges with their flags and pronouns, or whatever they want.

Could any of my mutuals or anyone offer suggestions for flags and/or pronouns I should include? I'd love it if everyone feels seen and included.

a slugcat chooses their gender--or rather, their first one--when they earn their title! this can be any time from like . small child to young adult--for example, the monk and the survivor both got their titles very young (monk for their attunement to the cycle and peaceful nature, survivor for, well, surviving a bad injury and infection), but the gourmand didn't earn hers until he figured out that Huh, Food Tastes Better When You Set It On Fire and set about perfecting their method as a young adult.

now, slugcat gender has a lot of nuance that the broad human idea of gender doesn't--their genders are more like roles for the most part, if that makes sense? and there's a lot more, like, variation. 'mother' is a separate gender from 'female' is a separate gender from 'queen' etc

as they grow to fill different roles and learn different skills, slugcats are expected to collect and shift genders--take gourmand, for instance! she is what we would consider multigender; and the perfect example of what slugcat society would expect a bigender person to be. he is a leader, a caretaker, a fighter, and a cook--she fulfills many roles, and therefore has many genders.

of course, there are those that break this, because no matter how complex your social model, there will be those that break it and queerness will exist in some capacity--take survivor! though they are undoubtedly skilled, living on their own for such a long time, they reject gender altogether--they are agender. monk, on the other hand, only has one gender, but it is fluid, shifting like water.

arti's main gender, i'd say, is Mother. first, when he wandered, his gender was null--not agender, but rather, a sort of emptiness. when they had their pups, their gender became primarily 'mother', only secondarily 'null'. over the course of their rampage, their gender returns to emptiness, in the same way a once-verdant land struck by drought is empty--there was something there, but it was scorched out and all that remains is dry, cracked earth.

rivulet's gender, indeed, does not really fit into the 'role' model--when it earned its title (which was first Dancer; Rivulet was a nickname they ultimately came to prefer), ae stated that aer gender was the water; was the way light refracted through a clear brook and shone on the stones at the bottom. they are what we would call xenogender.

hunter, spearmaster, and saint never really interacted with slugcat society enough to pick up their ideas of gender.

What if, tma ocs (first one is actually a sona). They're chaotic agender besties

First one is Iluna (which is basque for dark according to google) and they're ma sona. It's aligned with the Dark and the Desolation (i do not care if that's not actually possible) and are a funny arsonist dude.

They're always on fire, unless aer's hungry, that's when they just get a lot of smoke rising from them. They're hungry a lot, therefore have to perform a lot more evil for their entities. They like to scare children (they don't harm them tho, it is very against harming children) because it's an easy meal. They feed the Desolation by setting random things on fire. Tho if they're really hungry they kinda plunge people into darkness and then set them on fire.

They were marked by the corruption when they were young (used to be obsessed with bugs and fungus until it found one created by the corruption) and then after they became aligned with the Dark they had a few run ins with the lonely, which ultimately lead them to the Desolation.

Ae actively hate the Corruption (likes spiders now, for the sole reason of they want to spite the corruption, the corruption doesn't actually care, but they like to think that) and are friends with the Spiral.

Cae is an avatar of the Vast. Cae just chills and pushes people off buildings. They always look like they're standing in a strong gust of wind and tend to just disappear into the vast for a bit before coming out to cause problems.

They have normal human friends (who have been marked by an entity), but prefer hanging out with other avatars (mostly Iluna). Anytime their human friends and Iluna interact they get asked why Iluna is on fire and they're just reply with "Because they just are"

They don't feed the Vast as much as they probably should, but they normally give people vertigo when they need too. If they get really hungry they'll push some people off buildings or feed them to the sky and then get Iluna burn any evidence that the person even existed. They don't do this often tho.

They also really hate the Corruption (not to extent of Iluna tho) and dislike the Buried (for obvious reasons). They aren't really fond of the Web either, mostly because they have a very "Do what you want with your life" attitude and the Web is about not doing that lol. They don't like the Desolation that much, the cult of the lightless flame pisses them off, but Iluna is an exception to that.
