okay yeah i have to answer this because i 100% agree. me when i have no trauma 🤪

originally i had written a paragraph about how the bar for being considered "traumatized" in frozen pines is extremely high by comparison, so even though she isn't being re-traumatized every day, she's still been through hardships. if we plopped her in an ordinary teen story, elaine might actually be the one who has seen the most shit. but i erased it because.. idk. it feels icky to say that there's a certain amount of trauma a person must experience before they're allowed to act a certain way / be forgiven for the way they act. but let's talk about it, because you're exactly right that part of the way elaine acts is a trauma response.

there was a huge time skip after aileen died, so we don't know exactly how elaine dealt with the aftermath, but we do know this:

elaine's only goal was to cheer jada up, so she didn't get into her own feelings about aileen's death, she just wanted jada to know that she's not the only one haunted by the memory. their friend group is bonded by this memory that no one else understands – hell, even the girls don't understand what happened that day. only asa knows the truth. so they're bonded in uncertainty too.

when austin fails to show up to a date on time, elaine thinks: "What if he got in an accident? Did he forget his seatbelt again? Oh, God, I told him! He’s dying in a ditch somewhere and I’m sitting here all annoyed at him!" and when she visits austin's house for the first time, she realizes he lives right next to the train tracks where aileen died, and thinks, "I wish he didn’t live so close to the train…" (btw he lives VERY close to the train, so elaine has to hear it outside his window every time she spends the night)

it's been years, but aileen's death is still at the forefront of elaine's mind. it also shows that she turns that trauma into worry for other people. we've never seen her worry about her own safety in this way, even after she starts driving.

after she witnesses the woman die from jumping off the bridge, austin gives her a bunch of advice for how to survive a big fall, which comforts her a lot, but she's horrified to learn that austin has also jumped off that bridge for fun. it's one of the only times we've seen her be truly pissed off, and it's because the fear of losing austin in that way terrifies her. she can't believe he's being so casual about it (and cocky, honestly. he says: "It was sick. I didn't break anything. [...] You could do it too if you practiced.") again, elaine doesn't find it distressing to imagine herself in a dangerous situation, but as soon as she imagines someone she cares about doing it, she panics.

no doubt about it, elaine lacks awareness when talking about gruesome deaths with other people. while stevie makes jokes about her trauma, jada avoids the subject like the plague, asa channels his trauma into helping ghosts... elaine overshares and downplays death. she's interested in true crime because she's already seen the horrors of death and now she just wants to understand the why and how of it (she even says: "Death isn't so scary when you understand the science behind it.") she doesn't believe in religion, she's not spiritual, and she doesn't believe in ghosts. all she can do is cling onto the physical effects of dying and everything that she can learn from it. the way she's able to cope with the things she's seen is by treating it like something that happened to someone else, far away from her. can this be insensitive? yes, absolutely. but this is something she can definitely learn from and change. again, she's only 17... she's gonna have some wacky views about mortality.

so that's what we know so far about elaine's trauma and how it changes her behavior. but without spoiling anything.... in a short time, you're about to see the effects of her trauma in a big way, so it's good to put this out as a refresher!

I have so many posts about this, but just in general, him being treated like the kid he is and not being blamed for everything wrong in Deku’s life. Also Deku wasn’t completely innocent either and explicitly makes Bakugou uncomfortable some times but nooooo Bakugou has to be Deku’s friend. Like,,,, give me more content where they both acknowledge their faults during their childhood, not just Bakugou apologizing and then them having to become friends (which is what Deku wants bc Deku treats Bakugou like a symbol and not a person)

He’s a kid and as soon as he left that toxic environment, he improved immensely. Let’s not shame the toddler and 14 yo for not wanting to be this kid’s friend. Did he mistreat Deku? Yeah. Did he bully Deku like how a lot of ppl in the fandom think he did? No.

Also Mitsuki is a bad parent and it shows. Let’s look at children not as objects that exist in a vacuum but as humans that are products of their environment and can grow and change (like Bakugou did). He is not, was not, and never will be a bad kid or person, and he is nowhere near anything like Endeavor. The comparisons are so shallow and annoying (namely looking at how characters in canon compare them when they’re so fundamentally different and Bakugou explicitly dislikes Endeavor bc of what he knows unlike the lowkey abuse apologist Deku)

Anyways I saw a post talking about the importance of treating severely disabled people like people- which, yes, of course, that’s basic human decency. Unfortunately I get, like, really awkward (honestly around anyone I’m not familiar with) and I was wondering if you had tips for not becoming a well-intentioned annoyance in these people’s lives (honestly around any physically disabled people, like the lady at disability services was blind and I thought her accommodations were cool but I didn’t want to be weird by bringing it up)

and as for your question, you already said it, treat severely disabled people like people. i understand being an awkward person but eventually it will become an annoyance if you’re constantly weird around other disabled ppl. i absolutely do not intent to sound mean/mad because i’m not, but i am not severely disabled and can’t speak on their behalf other than that you should treat them just like any other person. sure, there might be some differences but for those things, people will usually tell you.

however i can speak on my experiences as a physically disabled person and on how i prefer social interactions to go. i do not mind people being awkward around me at first, meeting new people can be hard, i too find it stressful sometimes. i personally don’t really see the point of being awkward about someone’s disability, it’s a part of the person you’re befriending or just talking to, it’s not some spooky thing in reality. so for me, i welcome all good faith questions about my disabilities, and i will let people know if they’re crossing a line or if i’m just not up to talking about it at the time. many disabled people are like this, but some do not want to answer questions at all, and that’s also okay, and needs to be respected. also: unless someone has said that it’s okay to ask, do not ask how a person became disabled, it can be a traumatic thing to talk about, or just private. some people love talking about their disability and the aids they use, and some don’t, i usually like it bc i love talking about myself 💀 oh and also a general important rule is to never touch someone’s mobility aid without permission, it can be extremely dangerous, and it’s also incredibly annoying.

i can’t think of much more rn lmao, just be respectful, and and things will work out fine in most cases!

Literally THANK YOU for asking me this bc Susan Pevensie is a character I never get asked about and I have So Many Opinions.

I'm going to start by saying that Susan used to be my least favorite character in the series. This goes for the books and the movies. Some of it was for personal reasons--she reminds me of a couple of annoying ppl I know irl--but it was also bc I watched Prince Caspian which shoehorned her into a relationship with Caspian which I hated.

HOWEVER. I ended up rethinking this position after interacting with Susan fans and realizing that there are so many wonderful things to love about her!

Things Ash Loves About Susan Pevensie

Aight I'm not going to do a formal analysis yet on her, but instead rant about some of the unrelated things I adore about Susan Pevensie.

Susan the Archer

Look we all love archery here. I don't have anything more to say.

Okay, I actually do have more to say. I love the fact that Susan is a complete badass with the bow. You get the general impression that she's one of the royals in charge of public relations, traditions, foreign policy, etc. and yet she's the most competent archer in the series. One of the few things I liked about the movies is how they didn't downplay this. They actually let her be a badass and show off her skills.

Also the part where she kicks Trumpkin's ass was awesome.

Susan the Gentle

Susan being the most passive Pevensie was something I definitely underappreciated as a teenager. I think my non-ability to see past "I'm not like other girls" narrative and the combination of Susan being described as the most traditionally feminine woman in the Narnia series is what initially turned me off from her.

HOWEVER, now it's one of my favorite attributes! I love that Susan is a badass and the most beautiful woman in Narnia. She has hair down to her feet, every man and woman in the kingdom want to fuck her, and she's still a fucking badass who will not hesitate to kick your ass.

Susan the Sister

Most of my thoughts of Susan as an older sister mostly stem from my own personal headcanons, but she is an awesome sister to her siblings. She's Peter's voice of reason, Edmund's sass partner, and Lucy's big sister.

Susan the Mom-Friend

She is a literal mother-figure for Corin.

"[...] the most beautiful lady he had ever seen rose from her place and threw her arms round him and kissed him, saying: "Oh Corin, Corin, how could you? And thou and I such close friends ever since thy mother died. [...]"

-The Horse and His Boy, 33-34

Most everything I have to say about this ventures into headcanon territory, but I love the idea of Susan basically adopting Corin after his mom dies. The way she trusts Cor--who she thinks is Corin in this chapter--is really sweet and I wish we could've seen more of that relationship.

Susan the Flawed

Something I notice from the fandom is a lot of people who hate Susan tend to because of her flaws. On the other hand, most Susan stans like to wave away these flaws and blame C.S. Lewis for being misogynistic or Aslan for being a "cruel god" and ignore the fact that she is a deeply flawed person.

Susan gets something of a "reverse redemption arc" in The Chronicles of Narnia. This makes her not only a fascinating foil to Edmund--as both are analytical, logical people--but an interesting character by herself.

She starts out in TWW as very skeptical of Narnia and it's whole deal and also very condescending to Lucy throughout. She ultimately does admit that Lucy was right and does get on board with the whole prophecy at the same time Peter does, and ends the book being crowned "the Gentle Queen."

In The Horse and His Boy, she has a very interesting dynamic with Edmund and in even more interesting relationship with Rabadash. They don't even interact on-page with each other, but it's highly implied that she was interested in him when he was a guest in Narnia. His behavior obviously changed when she visited him in Tashbaan, but you have to wonder what their dynamic was like before for her to travel all the way to his home when relations between the countries were strained at best.

Prince Caspian is where the cracks start showing through. Susan has lived an entire life as an adult in Narnia, gets thrown back to England with her siblings, and is yet again in Narnia as a child. This book is what really emphasizes her one fatal flaw: convenience.

(Put a pin in that thought, I'll get back to it.)

Susan denies once again that Lucy saw something that the rest of them can't seen. She continues this narrative until every other sibling finally acknowledges Lucy in the right and only then does she apologize.

The last mention of Susan is in The Last Battle, where all of her flaws rise up against her in the worst way possible. I have a lot of controversial opinions on this that I'm going to address later, but I just want to say that Susan's reverse-redemption arc is something I actually like about her.

(There is also evidence that Susan does get a full redemption arc, just as Edmund and Eustace did, but C.S. Lewis was pretty much done with The Chronicles of Narnia at the point and instead encouraged fans to write their own version of how that went down.)

Okay, back to convenience being Susan's fatal flaw. So the one thing that comes up time and time again in the series is that Susan is very focused on material comforts. I believe it's implied that she's vain, and it's canonical that her own personal comfort spurs her to make decisions.

"[...] I really believed it was him — he, I mean — yesterday. When he warned us not to go down to the fir wood. And I really believed it was him tonight, when you woke us up. I mean, deep down inside. Or I could have, if I'd let myself. But I just wanted to get out of the woods and — and — oh, I don't know [...]"

Prince Caspian, 81

Prince Caspian has the strongest examples of Susan doing this, but certainly there's evidence elsewhere. There are a lot of fans who are distressed by this, claiming that Aslan and the others are too hard on her and shouldn't judge.

Honestly, I like that she's written with this flaw. Not only is it very relatable--(my own personal comfort and convenience is something I highly prioritize too)--but it humanizes a character who otherwise is ridiculously op and basically the Helen of Troy of the series. It may sound like I'm using this as an excuse to rant, but I really wouldn't have her any other way.

Susan As Portrayed by Anna Popplewell

Movie!Susan is a fucking delight.

She's sarcastic and badass and awesome and I could spend hours heaping praise on Anna's acting and her portrayal of Susan, but I can already tell that this post is going to be long so, I'll just stop here.

(10/10 want to be stabbed by her tho.)

Personal Headcanons

Let's talk about my fanon thoughts. I have many.

Susan is Aro

There's canonical evidence for this! Susan is a character who is heavily pursued by suitors everywhere, and even lets herself be courted by many of them, but chooses not to settle down. Even when she gets back to England and is described as only having interest in parties and material things, boys aren't mentioned.

I like to think that in The Horse in His Boy Susan was interested in Rabadash at first because he was a brilliant conversationalist. Nothing she says about him implies romantic interest, before and after she realizes the truth of his intentions.

Susan and Edmund Were Best Friends

This might be my love for The Horse and His Boy showing itself, but I think Susan and Edmund were thrown into circumstances where they interacted the most with each other.

Edmund is the ruler in charge of politics. Susan is the ruler in charge of Cair Paravel's public image. I imagine they spent time as ambassadors to other countries and planning royal functions.

They're also the most level-headed and logical out of their siblings, so they probably found a lot in common.

Susan Fancast

I literally just said I loved Anna's potrayal of Susan's (and I love what they gave us of older Susan too in LWW!), but I read the books in 2008 and my parents didn't let me see the movies bc I was like...nine years old and they thought it would be too scary.

So I had to headcanon my own interpretations.

Queen Susan the Gentle:

For some reason Merlin wasn't too scary for me to watch and I fell in love with Katie McGrath in like. Two episodes so. (On an unrelated note, I also fancast Bradley James as Peter at the time.)

Anyway, fanon Susan is basically Morgana Pendragon pre-evil arc. Sassy as hell, hot as fuck, and can kick your ass.

Unpopular Opinions

Yeah, feel free to skip this part if having controversial fandom opinions is a deal breaker for you.

The Problem With Susan Isn't Actually A Problem

I'm about to start so much discourse in the Narnia fandom, but C.S. Lewis's choices with her in The Last Battle weren't misogynistic. Bear in mind, I'm not saying that all of his writing choices in the series were A++ or excusing away certain racist/sexiest bits, but it's honestly baffling to me that people are so up in arms over Susan's exclusion in the final book.

So the part that everyone loses their shit over is as follows:

"My sister Susan," answered Peter shortly and gravely, "is no longer a friend of Narnia."

"Yes," said Eustace, "and whenever you've tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says 'What wonderful memories you have! Fancy your still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.'"

"Oh Susan!" said Jill, "she's interested in nothing now-a-days except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up."

"Grown-up, indeed," said the Lady Polly. "I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one's life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can."

The Last Battle, 83-84

There's a lot to unpack here and I first want to say that everyone's opinion on this part, no matter how different than mine, is valid. I'm going to be quoting some other ppl's opinions on here and by no means am I bashing them. I just want to address my feelings on the matter and the best way to do that is to cite the thoughts of ppl who have opposing ideas.

Here are some arguments on Tumblr I've heard regarding "The Problem of Susan":

"How about we talk about what might have happened if Narnia hadn't deserted Susan? [...] What if we didn't tell Susan she had to go grow up in her own world and then shame and punish her for doing just that? She was told to walk away and she went. She did not try to stay a child all her life, wishing for something she had been told she couldn't have again."

"Narnia is filled with metaphors (often not very subtle ones) that are supposed to teach us how to be, and the most glaring one for any young girl to absorb is that it's okay to be a girl like Lucy, unthreatening and cheerful and valiant and faithful, but to be a girl like Susan gets you punished - in fact, you aren't just punished, you're destroyed."

"why do we call it ‘the problem’ where’s the problem about a young woman dealing with her trauma and choosing her own path, actively making the choice to keep living and to stay and to carve a life out in England when her siblings couldn’t? what is the problem about susan forgetting to somehow cope with what she’s experienced? why is it ‘the problem of susan’ that she recontextualised her faith?"

And then there's JK Rowling who said this:

There comes a point where Susan, who was the older girl, is lost to Narnia because she becomes interested in lipstick. She's become irreligious basically because she found sex. I have a big problem with that.

It's weird how I'm still finding new ways to hate JKR in the year 2021. Again, there is absolutely zero implication that Susan had sex when she came back to England. ZERO. Did she actually read the books? IDK. If someone shares this opinion pls reply with actual canonical evidence.

Back on topic, I'm a firm believer of death of the author and interpreting art via your own experiences. Which is why I'm also going to share my own interpretation by saying y'all are wrong.

Susan Pevensie was not abandoned by Narnia. She was not barred from Narnia because she is traditionally feminine or because she "owned her sexuality" (another opinion I didn't have time to condense down for this post) or because she recontextualized her faith or even because she deserved to be punished.

I also fail to see how Susan recontexualized her faith, as the entire point of it all is that she has none. Bringing this back to Susan's fatal flaw (personal convenience/material comforts), her prioritizing herself over her own faith is the reason she is "no longer a friend of Narnia." Not...whatever fanon y'all are imposing on her character.

Susan is not being punished for liking lipstick and looking pretty. Susan's not even being punished. Y'all read Neil Gaiman's The Problem of Susan and forgot it wasn't canon.

There are many reasons Susan is not in Aslan's Country (one of them being that she's not actually dead yet), but the main one has to do with this:

"[...] But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”

Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 215-216

Yeah, okay that's why Susan is no longer a friend of Narnia. The implication when the Pevensies are told that they can no longer enter Narnia is that they are to find Aslan in other places. Susan doesn't do this, instead choosing to focus her life on material things. It isn't the lipstick, it's that she only wants the lipstick.

Susan Had Sex In The Books

Oh and not in the context y'all are thinking. (Again, there are no implications that Susan was barred from Narnia for having sex or that she had sex when she came back to England.)

So there's actual canonical evidence that Susan and Rabadash had a sexual relationship. Sort of.

"What think you? We have been in this city fully three weeks. Have you yet settled in your mind whether you will marry this dark-faced lover of yours, this Prince Rabadash, or no?"

-The Horse and His Boy, 35

Edmund calls Rabadash her lover. Not her suitor. I don't know if the word had a different meaning in 1954, but it feels like C.S. Lewis is saying that they're fucking. I'm not really happy with the idea of Susan sleeping with an abuser, but really proud of her for Getting Some as a woman born in a time period where having premarital sex was a big no-no.

This also invalidates the weird opinion going on that Susan was barred from Narnia because she had sex.

Suspian Is The Worst

I haven't really talked about Movie!Susan much, but as long as we're talking unpopular opinions, it's worth noting that I hate Suspian. Some of it is the "Susan is Aro" headcanon screaming inside of me, but it's also the fact that it's written poorly, does nothing interesting for either character and generally comes across as awkward.

I feel like they were trying to make Prince Caspian sexy and relevant to teens. It came across as super heteronormative and unnecessary.

It also gets really really weird bc the next movie then gives Caspian and Edmund mad chemistry and we're all just like........ok.

Final Thoughts

Susan may not be my favorite character in the series, but she's grown on me over the years. I have many issues with fanon interpretations of her--which definately fueled some of my disdain for her initally--and I don't identify as a Susan Apologist.

I do however adore Susan and have many headcanons for her not mentioned here. I love reading fanfic, writing fanfic and meta, and generally having conversations about her and would love to talk more about it.

PREACH, ANON, I AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS 100%

Would you believe Dabi used to be one of my favourites? His rabid fans put me off him entirely. 🤧 Yes, he's traumatised, yes, his dad was absolutely awful, and I understand why he feels so betrayed and angry. But he's not just a victim, he's also a murderous psycho who'll burn everything and everyone in his path (including his own family) just to hurt his father. And you can't simply pin the blame on Enji and absolve Dabi of responsibility for his heinous crimes. That bears saying, same as Enji apologists ought to admit he effed up BAD and is the main reason Dabi came to be. But there aren't nearly as many Enji apologists as there are Dabi apologists, which is why I eventually stopped going into the Dabi tag around the time of the big reveal, when it was brimming with poor-little-Dabi posts and furious rants against Enji and against Hori for giving him a redemption arc.

Oh boy, I could talk about Chisaki for hours. I was one of the few who was absolutely certain he'd be brought back into the story, and I KNEW he would be desperate to fix his dad. I didn't foresee his mental health being as poor as it now, but it makes sense – he said it himself, he's got absolutely nothing left except Pops (...who isn't going to be too happy with him, if he ever wakes up...).

I've always found it annoying how most BNHA fans don't realise that the crux of Chisaki's character is his attachment to his father...most people make it out to be his supposed aversion to Quirks (which I think is just an expression of his own self-loathing, because actually, he only considers people as useful as their Quirks. He even NAMED HIMSELF and his two subordinates after their respective Quirks). I realise his dad (should he wake up) can't really be expected to forgive him... but I can't help hoping that he will 😣

Hi anon!  When I first saw your message, I planned to just reply that I couldn’t see the take(s) you were talking about because I’ve probably blocked/don’t follow the OP(s); but at this point, I’ve definitely seen similar sentiments (and worse!) popping up in other places.  I’ll talk about the overall argument, but before that, I want to encourage you to also block anyone making posts that trouble you.  I don’t know for sure whether you’re the same anon I didn’t publish from last chapter, but regardless, I hope you can pull away from annoying discourse this way.  You can’t un-see a bad take, obviously, but it’s better to curate your fandom experience and set boundaries as soon as possible.  Generic advice, I know, but it helped me and I really hope it helps you. ^^

Anyway, on to The Take.  I’m not gonna talk in detail about the gods’ offenses again because I think that’s a settled issue at this point; they suck, plain and simple, and the suffering they caused out of “love” for Hiryuu can’t be justified by their supposed inherent authority.  Let’s also just skip your first sentence for today, anon, and instead jump into the meat of this Take — that is, that Suwon is narrow-minded and wrong for rejecting the gods’ power because of his Feelings, while Yona is superior, open-minded, and righteous for accepting the power of the gods (and any powers that will help achieve her goals, including the current political powers that make her Feel bad, which is the contrast I assume we’re supposed to be getting at here).  I want to interrogate whether this idea is valid, or at least applicable to canon, and what it really advocates for when you do apply it to canon.

First, this argument is, on its face, totally and hilariously invalidated by the newest chapter, which confirms that Suwon has been interested in Zeno for pragmatic reasons ever since he learned of his ~divinely granted~ powers of immortality.  Oh, sure, Suwon hates the gods over a “personal grudge” all right (and we’ll get to you, “personal grudge” in giant scare quotes), but it seems that didn’t stop him from considering putting one of Hiryuu’s own dragons on the throne.  This chapter also reiterates that the dragons will be aiding Kouka as part of their military alliance, an alliance Suwon not only agreed to, but allowed Keishuk to publicly promote via the tournament.  Even before, it’s not as though Suwon’s avoidance of the dragons ever translated to an out-and-out rejection, and he’s never undermined their aid.  So … power of the gods, divine powers, magic, Hiryuu Shit™ — these aren’t so off-limits after all, no?

Now, I’m not saying this new, narrow-minded fanon Suwon who arrogantly rejects the power of the gods in any and all forms doesn’t sound like a super cool and valid guy; in fact, he’s probably only a few degrees removed from Suwon’s actual character and I’d gladly defend him with my life.  Canon Suwon is a little more nuanced, though, because as much as he values people over gods, is traumatized by Hiryuu-adjacent stuffs, and has no interest in the dragons’ powers, he’s also an emotionally intelligent pragmatist.  The dragons are right in front of him right now, and while their existence is generally problematic, they’re better as assets than as enemies or loose cannons.  He’s not gonna cave to their every demand just because they’re powerful (see: when Kija tried to bait him in ch. 189), but he’s never outright rejected them.  In that case, in what particular context does this argument actually have legs?

Well, I’m pretty sure this particular Fanwon emerged from ch. 203/204, specifically, in which Suwon coolly rejects Meinyan’s offer to join forces and seize the dragons from Yona (an offer he would’ve been condemned for accepting ofc), says that he’s sick of all this talk of Hiryuu, and claims that he “doesn’t need it,”* “it” presumably being Hiryuu’s existence and divine power.  Those last two points are the true basis for “Suwon needs to stop rejecting the gods,” evidently — and imo, by examining these points you can see just how deceptive this argument is, that it’s actually centered around a clever rhetorical sleight of hand.

So, Suwon hasn’t been rejecting divine powers in practice; rather, he’s frustrated with the whole issue of divinity and claims he “doesn’t need” Hiryuu.  To which pro-Fanwons say, Hey, that’s bad and wrong!  He needs to stop being frustrated, eat his humble pie and admit he needs Hiryuu/Yona and the dragons!  And like … hang on a moment.  Why?  Really, why?  First of all, they’re already his allies and poised to fight for Kouka if necessary.  The HHB are not demanding that he say he needs them, either; they just want to help themselves and the country while having some freedoms.  And there’s no reason to assume the dragons’ powers are a net good that were absolutely necessary for the nation’s survival, either — I mean, besides Il being a worthless self-proclaimed “placeholder” for Hiryuu and Ruining Everything Ever, when pockets of your nation are just weird dragon cults that contribute nothing to the whole and straight-up kill outsiders for thousands of years, is there really any reason to think it’d be worse off without them …?  Tangent, tangent, I know — anyway, let’s look at where this would actually be applicable.  We all know the real reason Suwon would “need” Hiryuu/Yona/the protagonists: because he’d need to give up his command, his current authority, and probably the throne as well, now that he’s dying of a painful terminal illness.

Time to talk about that “personal grudge” a bit.  We all remember why Suwon is dying of a painful terminal illness, right?  (We also remember that he’s not the only one, right?)  Again, I don’t want to have to review the gods’ awfulness all over again here and I promise that this is not just an appeal to emotion.  Let’s just say Suwon’s grandpa was right and their deaths are the gods’ attempts to call Hiryuu back to heaven.  What “he needs to stop rejecting/admit he needs Hiryuu/gods” really argues for, at its core, is that Suwon needs to submit to the entity killing him and humbly rely on its grace to maybe help save the nation he loves.  That’s a really important distinction, too — this is not an argument that Suwon needs to be saved, but that he needs to surrender all agency and power to his killers’ agents in order to be benevolently granted one dying wish.

And that’s where the rhetorical sleight of hand comes in, the one that reveals that this contrast between Yona and Suwon isn’t parallel at all.  You actually said it yourself, anon, though I’m not sure if that was intentional, verbatim from this original argument, or just a coincidence.  What Suwon is rejecting isn’t the power of the gods, but just the gods; what Yona is accepting isn’t the gods, but just the power of the gods.  They are not rejecting or accepting the heavens on the same, equal terms.  Only one of these characters can actually choose to be empowered by the gods; the other can only choose to submit to being subjected to the gods’ will.

If Suwon submits to “needing” Yona and the HHB, he doesn’t gain “the power of the gods”; he loses what power he has, including his loose hold on the dragons, and his frustrations are never resolved.  Empty throne or no, this is not an argument for Yona’s empowerment, but for Suwon’s disempowerment; it merely tries to justify itself through the false framing of Suwon as an unreasonably prejudiced man next to her.  It is, at core, an argument that Suwon’s pain and striving should be rewarded with loss.

“But Yona submitted to powers that hurt her by coming to the castle!” the hypothetical pro-Fanwon cries.  Quick thinking there, pro-Fanwon!  Too bad that’s not how her arc pans out, nor how anyone ever wanted it to, nor at all comparable to his situation when she’s not dying painfully.  Mountains are often made of the ~indignities~ she suffered, but in truth, Yona almost immediately made the current regime subject to her wants and only continues to grow in power and influence because she has the privilege of divine power.  She always has the unconditional loyalty of the dragons in case things go south.  If Yona cedes ground, she can always gain it back twice over; a fully disempowered, dethroned, dying Suwon would have no way back up and nothing to look forward to.  This is not an issue of which one of them can display more righteous humility because again, the terms are not equal.  Only Suwon is being told to give up his agency because it’s the “right” thing to do.

And … yeah, to be clear, that is totally the point.  For however many people with this approximate viewpoint try to frame it with Facts and Logic about Suwon’s situation, this Take is essentially just a last-ditch justification for AkaYona becoming a vindictive revenge story.  Yona won’t consciously seek vengeance on Suwon, of course, because that would be Bad; she’ll just, you know, take everything good and meaningful away from him, denying him emotional validation as he dies painfully and/or is humiliated by her righteous godliness because the universe contrived that to be her most heroic course of action!  I’m sure those who really love this argument are aware of this, too.  idk if they realize that framing the way a character deals with terminal illness and chronic pain in terms of pride, karma, selfishness, “personal grudges,” etc. is uhhh really fucking gross please stop!, but they definitely at least know that this is the “punishment” they want Suwon to suffer.  You know, a “punishment” that he would’ve suffered no matter what he did in life, because he was born with an incurable disease caused by the same forces that give Yona unbelievable privileges as a god on earth.  This is a punishment for being born sick and daring to have ambitions despite that, really.  Very cool, no terrible implications to unpack there.

Now, do I think Kusanagi herself would subscribe to this false foil and use it to prop up Yona?  Well, I don’t think she’d take it to its logical conclusion by killing Suwon, at least, esp. since Zeno confirmed the issue of the dragons supposedly having a ticking clock themselves.  But the idea that Yona’s acceptance of divine power is somehow a great virtue compared with Suwon’s rejection of it might very well come up, because I think this mangaka is often not very thoughtful about her MC’s privileges and not very empathetic towards certain characters’ situations.  I’m not here to criticize the story, though; I just wanted to give my two cents on this Take anon sent my way.  In conclusion, uhhh thanks for reading if you got this far, I love you

The first character I first fell in love with: Ok where do I begin with? 😂 When someone told me to watch bnha I was sceptical at first bc I didn't like the art style that much but then I saw a post ab Bakugou calling everyone nerds which was hilarious considering that he ranked 3rd in class' mid-term grades. And I was like "oh nice he's a nerd but cool" so I googled his pictures and he looked all spiky and black so I decided to give it a shot. Turns out I hated his character. 😂 But I liked everything else so I stayed + the fanbase is huge and I thought it'd be lots of fun. Later I saw Dabi and yea, he remained my fave till this day.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Shigaraki. At first he behaved like a brat and I was annoyed with him. Now he's one of my faves.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Bakugou 😂 (sry I don't get it). I'm also pretty neutral of Shinsou, Aizawa and Todoroki bc I have a feel that I'd love them if the fandom didn't ruin them for me (which doesn't mean that I hate em I say that I'm neutral while everyone else is psyched over em).

Why do you think it’s more common to hate characters like dean, Ted, Ross, and Dawson, Dan rather than Jess, Barney, Damon, chuck? Like people will claim the latter are toxic “nice guys” and twist them into the worst characters ever. And fair enough I see they are annoying but then why Stan characters that are as abusive and horrible as chuck and Damon? I don’t get it. That’s why I appreciate ppl like you that see the flaws in all these characters in a more thoughtful way!

It’s a few reasons.

For something like Dean vs. Jess, I think there’s a willful misinterpretation of the text (like everyone mentions him yelling that he doesn’t care about Harvard but not about the fact that by the end of the episode he apologizes and says he was an idiot for being jealous of Harvard and doesn’t want to be someone who stops her from going) and a double standard -- like it’s OK for Rory to be stringing him along and flirting with another guy right in front of his face and not being brave enough to break up with him but Dean breaks up with her in public because he’s tired of it and that’s inexcusable; Dean is super jealous of Rory and Jess and that’s seen as a fault but not the fact that Rory is growing distant from Dean but won’t break up with him.

But I also think Jess is individually a more compelling character because he was built to be a character unto himself, Dean was built to be Rory’s first boyfriend so Jess has more personality, I mean I think he’s a little shit, but he is textually more dynamic than Dean, he just is, and people respond to that more.

With Chuck vs. Dan, lmao, one of these days I’m going to rewatch Gossip Girl and post my unpopular opinions about it because apparently Derena is abusive but somehow Chair isn’t even considered toxic but anyway, one criticism I’ve read is that Chuck knows that he can be a shitty person but Dan pretends that he’s morally superior when he really isn’t and barring the fact that I think it’s funny that knowing you’re a shitty person and doing nothing to change that is considered more acceptable, Dan being judgemental is actually supposed to be a character flaw, which I wonder if people realize, like it’s in the text,

Dan having a sense of superiority is also supposed to be a blind spot

People also use Chuck’s upbringing to excuse his behaviour (he grew up wealthy but unloved) whereas Dan grew up in a supportive household so he has no reason to do morally dubious things (I mean, I guess). And I didn’t really watch the latter seasons so Dan’s descent into being a total dick isn’t something I’ve seen but I’ve also heard the criticism that Chuck gets a redemptive arc while Dan goes through a descent and it ends with him being Gossip Girl so he’s just a ruined character.

I also think a part of it is people just want to enjoy the fun and the crazy antics of the Non-Judging Breakfast Club (who do judge each other constantly, which is hilarious, Dan is not the only judgemental person in the show) and Dan is kind of a wet blanket making commentary on how ridiculous they all are so people find him annoying. It’s the same with Vanessa.

Dawson is insufferable, like he actually just is, and he’s framed as not being insufferable so I can see why that annoys people and Pacey is an infinitely more likeable character than he is. I don’t mind him being self-involved much in the first few seasons because I think it’s very adolescent, but what I will say when it comes to the triangle, when I think of the criticisms I’ve seen about how he views Joey, I realize that people don’t take into account that Joey acted the exact same way with Jen, like there’s all this rhetoric around how Dawson saw Joey as his

Before I get into Ted, I will say that in general, I found HIMYM incredibly sexist, racist, and generally unfunny, which is why I didn’t watch it for the longest time.

So as someone who does not like Ted and could not stand Ted, it’s pretty much the same reason people hate Dawson, in fact I said Dawson was Ted Mosby before Ted Mosby. For me, anyway, I just didn’t care to listen to a man drone on about how he tried to find the one through his exploits where he’s framed as idealistic and romantic but he’s actually just sexist, like it was obnoxious and Ted was obnoxious but you’re supposed to root for him and I was like, why tho?

Neil Patrick Harris as Barney is just a more charismatic character and he’s given quips and sayings (I remember my guy friends in university ‘suited up’ because of him) and humour is powerful because it makes certain things that are deplorable more palatable and a “oh that’s just how he is” and I also think his relationship with Robin helped because it was compelling relationship, I mean it was literally the only thing about the show I liked.

The Friends thing is just ... it’s probably because Ross and Rachel were framed as, like, THE romantic pairing of the show and people are harder on him because of that although Rachel’s toxic behaviour and complicity in that relationship is never spoken about but I also think it’s because of the conscious and unconscious desire to defend/protect/victimize white women because Rachel did some shit too. People also conveniently forget that many of Ross’ shitty decisions in that relationship were influenced by Joey and Chandler, I don’t know the Friends one still has me like

Oh boy, this is gonna be a long one haha. This is a bit of an unusual post, but Tumblr, I need some assistance.

Ok so I've always have known about autism and stuff like it but it wasn't until about a year ago that I started looking into neurodivergency more. If you're wondering, it was brought about by my favorite Ducktales episode (season 3 episode 6: Astro Boyd) airing for the first time and I saw people talking about its autistic/neurodivergent themes.

Since then, I’ve been picking up some of my tendencies and it got me wondering. I never remember getting tested for this stuff so this is just based on my experiences and research. So for educational purposes, I'm gonna put some of the traits I do and see if any neurodivergent ppl relate lol

The first thing I want to touch upon is something plenty of us are probably familiar with: stimming. My experiences include;

Excitedly hitting a book I'm reading because of a cool call back, a really funny joke, or simply something badass happening (this just happened to me other day lol)

Flailing my arms and/or legs when something similar (to the point above) happens in a movie or tv show I enjoy

“Vibing” with my best friend includes: waving my arms and head around, bobbing up and down like I am an idle video game character, and/or just generally moving in place for a solid minute or two

The next thing I will mention: Hyperfixations

If you have seen my Tumblr, profile, or simply paid attention to the beginning of this post, you may not be surprised that I hyperfixate with my favorite show, possibly ever, Ducktales. I got emotional last year when I heard it was ending and legitimately cried at the end of the last episode. I mean watching those final credits still makes my heart hurt. (And I know I'm terrible at posting but I will never truly leave the Dt fandom)

Sometimes it happens rather quickly. For instance, I went to the mall with my friend last Saturday and impulsively bought a book called The Extraordinaries. I finished it in 3 days and I swear if I don't go back to that Barnes & Noble and get my hands on the sequel soon I will do crimes.

When I find things to hyperfixate about it is all I want to talk about with people for a while. But then I feel bad when they don't share my interests because I don't just want people to listen to me babble my head off all the time about stuff they don't care about.

Something I found out recently, losing track of time apparently can be a neurodivergent trait.

So yeah I've done this a lot. Overall, I just have terrible time management skills. I'm not great at putting things down on a timeline and it makes me anxious when I do so.

Also, since going into homeschooling about 5 years ago, I constantly lose track of time. Most of the time, I only know what day and time it is because I have a calendar next to my bed and a phone around me at all times. (off-topic but it annoys me that I used the word time so often here)

Prioritizing tasks, knowing how to start things, and just overall getting shiz done..???

I have. So many. Sketches I want to finish. But I keep going to a new one cause woop I just got a new idea must do it now right?! (Seriously though, I'm sorry that I haven't been posting much art lately)

I have a comic I want to start developing but I have no idea how on earth I should do that. And sometimes things seem obvious, like get the outlines for your story, get main plot points down, PUT YOUR DAM IDEAS YOU HAVE IN YOUR HEAD DOWN SOMEWHERE ANYWHERE. But nooo I'll just sit here and keep starting new sketches of my main characters. That'll get you a product you'll be happy with.

Sometimes I will just sit there thinking ok I'm sitting here but I have work I need to get done and I am running out of time to do it and it is stressing me out right now but I can't move I can't do it but I need to because it needs to get done and I am running out of time but it is stressful. Rinse and repeat for at least a half-hour, maybe take a nap lol.

This point is the fact that even though I never got tested I know I have maladaptive daydreaming which has a link to Adhd and neurodivergency in general.

For those who don't know what that is, I will try to explain. Yes, it is daydreaming but it's more than that. (you know what? I'm just gonna put the traits I found off of a site and add my feelings toward it lol)

extremely vivid daydreams with their own characters, settings, plots, and other detailed, story-like features

daydreams triggered by real-life events (mostly media I consume in my case)

difficulty completing everyday tasks (kinda like the stress-sitting I mentioned earlier just with daydreaming mixed in)

difficulty sleeping at night (at the time of making this point is it currently 3 am, though I am aware I'm up rn because of this post, it is usually because of the daydreaming)

an overwhelming desire to continue daydreaming (ok that's just...accurate)

performing repetitive movements while daydreaming (typically I walk around my house like a ping pong ball)

making facial expressions while daydreaming (idk I usually mouth what my character are saying or replicate the face their making)

whispering and talking while daydreaming (^^)

daydreaming for lengthy periods

The last thing I will mention for now is my family cause many sources say that this stuff is commonly genetic soooooooo

My mother has been diagnosed with dyslexia since she was a kid.

We've suspected that my brother has Adhd. To put it in perspective I will paraphrase something that his 2nd-grade teacher once said. “He moves around so much I want to just strap him to a chair sometimes but I am afraid to do it cause I think he'll explode”

okay so updates on my work situation hahaha:

i got the contract much earlier than i expected, and tendered officially yesterday instead - and i had to celebrate a friend’s birthday + head to a funeral where there was a hell lot of drinking again so when i saw the contract at like about 2pm i was like okay gotta call the boss at like end of the day after the funeral, and then i was dead drunk at 5pm after 2 bottles of wine were opened by the family at the funeral, and so when my boss said ok to my request for a call, he said can we call like NOW at 5.30pm - and i was like... drunk and tipsy and still like half lucid, but yeah so i called him and somehow managed to tell him that i’d be tendering my resignation etc. (i honestly don’t fully rmb what i said, but i rmb it taking a lot of brainpower to sound serious)

boss is taken aback, so i guess he didn’t realize i’d leave despite me sounding really done with work for the past few weeks, and then he laughs really helplessly and goes “you totally ruined my dinner” and i laughed too because i was tipsy, and that’s not the point

THE POINT IS - i went home and as he requested, i sent my resignation letter formally over, and in the email stated all the items i needed to handover - this was like after i woke up from drunk sleep at home at 9pm, and then he calls like an hour later?

and HE MAKES A LAST PITCH FOR A COUNTER OFFER THAT INCLUDED:

I know you don’t like that colleague, and could it be you’re looking to leave because of her? What if I fire her?

- HELL NO, LIKE why would you make me responsible for her firing? The fact that you can like just totally offer to fire her just shows how incompetent she is, and that YOU KNOW IT, but decided to keep her while firing everyone else who contributed way more than her - You made your own bed, you get to lie in it!!! How many times have my supervisor and I feedbacked that her work ethic is an issue (3 years of complaints) and he says he knows but he’s never done anything about it, and leaves the rest of us to deal with her bullshit.

I know a lot of people are hurt & angry over the kisses being cut and the promos etc.... and I am too don't get me wrong but I'm still trying to cling to hope that Rafa & Ro aren't gonna steer us wrong. They're so excited for this season and their scenes and i have to believe there is a reason for it.

Be angry with fox and the directors and the editing team but make sure you leave Rafa and Ro out of that bc its not their fault nor do they have anything to do with it. We want them to keep sharing with us and they're such amazing men who give their all to their jobs and us as fan. Don't go ruining that. Please.
