Reputation: Amber is many things, an annoyance to some, a source of entertainment for others. In public, non family or vigilante settings, she is a quick witted, intelligent girl who thrives on causing small amounts of trouble. This does not make her many friends in school administration but she does have a small group of rascals there that she hangs out with. She doesn't ever cause any serious harm, small class-clown like pranks and disruptions are the furthest she goes. Most teachers, though, appreciate her intelligence. She is always one of the top in her class, with parents like hers (not that the public knows about half of her parentage) you would almost have to be. Amber does her best to do the right thing too, she can have her fun but that doesn't mean she can't also do a little good around the community (vigilante or otherwise) as well.

Backstory

Amber is aware that she was probably an accident. She's always been very smart, even when she was younger and living with her mother. She knew who both of her parents were and she knew how more often than not they were on opposite sides.

Selina, however, loved her daughter and was more than happy to teach her the tools of her particular trade. Things continued this way until things got a little hairy. Selina had to get out of Gotham for a while and there was only one place for her to go.

Being one of the youngest of the Wayne brood, pretty much all of the children were in the manor save Damian when Amber was dropped off. To say that that first day was a little awkward would be an understatement. Alfred had suggested a one on one meeting between the girl and her father which was fairly awkward in its own right. There was no mistaking that she was his daughter though. Every chance she got to prove it, she did, not that she really knew it at the time. She was raised by Catwoman, yes, but there was a fair bit of justice seeking Batman in there too.

Living in the manor was a bit of an adjustment. Amber had only ever lived on her own with her mom. She was used to seeing only one other person, used to things being quiet, small rooms. Wayne Manor was the opposite of that in nearly every way.

Amber, despite her personality, was a bit reserved at the beginning, trying to figure things out for herself, not even really knowing who she was outside of what she and her mother did. So, she did what she had been taught to do. She snuck around, taking things in from various angles. Out of all the children that had ever found themselves living in the manor, Amber found the Batcave the quickest. And Bruce couldn't find it in him to be anything other than impressed and a little proud. That wasn't just the mark of a thief, it was the mark of a detective.

Things begin to look up slowly from there. Amber wasn't as solitary after that and she opened up to her siblings more, started seeing them as such.

Things didn't really pick up through until one fateful night. Everyone in the manor was gone except for Alfred. It had been about an hour or two after everyone had left for their nightly escapades. Amber had crawled out the window to her room and was sitting on the roof, watching over the city, looking up at the Bat Signal shining into the foggy night sky. The idea hit her like a bolt of lightning.

She was quiet, grabbing some money she had been given and a few tools she had and snuck back out of the house. She was careful, avoiding any danger zones that night (Gotham may be infested with crime but for goodness sakes there can't be a criminal on every corner. Most of them, sure, but not all of them) and found a small craft store. She snuck in, taking the items she needed, dropping the necessary money on the counter with a note (not signed) and left. Once she was home, she started working on a suit of her own. The next time The Bat went out, there was a little black and brown clothed vigilante following after him from a distance.

There was an argument that the rest of the finally was present for after that patrol, how could she be so reckless? Anything could have happened to her, you get the gist. However, Amber never wavered. She wanted to be another force of good in this city, like her Dad, and if he wanted to stop her, then he had another thing coming. That was the first time Amber had ever called him that and as mad as Bruce wanted to stay, he couldn't argue with her. All her siblings got to do it, why shouldn't she? There were modifications to make, a real armored suit to work on but alright, she'd passed the Batfamily initiation.

That was the moment where Amber really felt a part of the family, and isn't that just fitting?

Selina still calls on her, checking to see how her daughter is doing, along with an occasionally attempt to get her to help on some jobs. Amber only occasionally agrees to this.

The new Broadway revival of The Wiz is now selling tickets. It is currently running a pre-Broadway national tour, and will begin previews March 29th, with opening day set for April 17th.

This production is directed by Schele Williams, who is also directing The Notebook, another musical opening next year on Broadway. Amber Ruffin has also revised the book.

Chapter 1 - Magic; Famous Professors (BOOK 1)

“Headteacher Vadone, can you please read out the list of this year’s first-year students?”

An elder woman asks an elderly man, standing behind his desk petting his pet rag-doll cat named Fergus.

“In females are Lailuh De Costa, age 15-years-old... Amber Lee, age 13-years-old... Fanny Lee, age 15-year-old... Scarlet De Costa, age 14-years-old... Mackenzie Gomez, age 14-years-old... Jessica Dark, age 13-years-old... Natia Perry, age 13-years-old.... Alexander Baton, age 14-years-old... and Harriet Thorn, age 15-years-old.”

The elderly man reads from the book.

“In males are Reece Wayne, age 13-years-old... Kyle Camp, age 14-years-old... Joshua Cooper, age 15-years-old... Corey Cooper, age 15-years-old... Sheridan Jacobs, age 13-years-old... Ethan Mackenzie, age 13-years-old.... Noah Brown, age 13-years-old...”

He pauses as the school is in golfed in darkness. They gaze out the window where a cloud of gas was changing its shape in a blurry skull.

“It’s a professor doing…” the woman said, walking over to the casement window, closing it, locking it; “Fardeau.” The elderly women said, casting a wind spell from her wand.

The stench from the gas, smelling of rotten fish, moldy orange juice, curled milk and dead mince.

“We need to work out and apprehend his or her plans… We can’t put the students in at risk…”

The man said, picking up his pet and approaching the elderly women, his cat purring in his warm grip.

“Any more injuries… I’m afraid that we will have to close our doors forever. The Healers’ wing station has stated that they become overcrowded with dark magic related injuries every year. This year they don’t have the money to buy the supplies..”

The woman said as the gas fades away, bring the disgusting smell with it. She unlocks the window and opens it as the fresh air has become breathable.

“We don’t want to remember the 1998 dark mist incident… it’s the very reason for the apprehensiveness and uncertainty that has made parents think we don’t take proper safe precisions for the children…”

The man admitted with a tint of worry in his voice, which is strange for him to show any type of worry; “This will be solved the person will be apprehended and handed over to the authorities to be dealt with…”

The woman said as the pair watch the gas vanish. The smell still lingers in the midnight air.

“Put all school faculties on high alert… I trust you and your work, Professor Longville… I trust you can keep the students safe if they get in any sort of danger…”

“I won’t let you down, headteacher Vadone…”

“I know you won’t.” He said as he as he reads out the rest of the students.

They headed down to the dinning hall where all professors were just now gathering. Three professors, being the last ones to race in, one dressed in a black robe with Bright green trim. The second with a Sky blue trim and the last one, quiet young looking, dressed in a black robe with orange trim.

Professor Monta from Potions, head of Carnelian house. Professor Goodyard from flying Brooms, head of Emerald house and Professor Hancock from Care Of Magical Monsters, Beasts and Creatures, head of Diamond house.

“As you all just witness, the cloud that in golfed the school is dark magic, someone highly skilled in that field of work, weather the user is a staff here is unknown. I fear the person is working with the people who caused the 1998 dark mist incident.” Headteacher Vadone says to the professors, showing them his worry and concern.

“Headteacher, do you sense something bad coming?” Professor Goodyard asks Vadone, concerned, even a little worried.

Headteacher Vadone shows no signs of worry, concern, stress. When he does, it normally means that he has witnessed a vision, a dream, a sign showing into the future. Most of the time, it is horrific and harmful…

“I would like all Professors make sure you are on high alert at all times, even when you are resting, when you are grading and when you are bathing. Because it’s a new year, our priority is the safety of the students. As you know from previous years, new students mean new victims, new victims mean more injuries and more deaths.” the headteacher said them in a stern voice, ignoring Professor Goodyard’s question.

They nod and head to their seat behind the long table. The headteacher stands next to the table with a sewing needle, with a rose wrapped out the top end of it. A dark oak wooden gauntlet with a white flame coming from the top of it.

A crowd of students, male and females soon flood into the dinning hall. Once seated in their houses, the new batch walks in. The headteacher watches them as they stop pushing and shoving each other trying to get to the front of the group.

“Welcome to Dragonath Magic School For The Gifted. Here you will study to become a mature, skilled and extremely gifted witch or wizard. Tonight we will place you into one of the 12 school houses. People in this house will be your second family. You will sleep together and earn house points together.”

He said, picking up a scroll; he opens it and explains all 12 houses to the students.

“Garnet: Friendly and humanitarian, honest and loyal, original, independent and intellectual. Intractable and contrary, perverse and unpredictable, unemotional and detached.”

“Amethyst: Imaginative and sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless and unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic. Escapist and idealistic, secretive and vague, weak-willed and easily led.”

“Bloodstone: Adventurous and energetic, pioneering and courageous, enthusiastic and confident, dynamic and quick-witted. Selfish and quick-tempered, impulsive and impatient.”

“Sapphire: Patient and reliable, warmhearted and loving, persistent and determined, placid and security loving. Possessive, resentful and inflexible, self-indulgent and greedy.”

“Agate: adaptable, communicative and witty, intellectual and eloquent, youthful and lively. Nervous, superficial and inconsistent, cunning and inquisitive.”

“Emerald: Emotional and loving, intuitive and imaginative, shrewd and cautious, protective and sympathetic. Changeable and moody, overemotional and touchy, clinging and unable to let go.”

“Onyx: Generous and warmhearted, creative and enthusiastic, broad-minded and expansive, faithful. Pompous and patronizing, bossy and interfering, intolerant.”

“Carnelian: Modest and shy, meticulous and reliable, practical and diligent, intelligent and analytical. Fussy and a worrier, overcritical and harsh, perfectionist and conservative.”

“Chrysolite: Diplomatic and urbane, romantic, easygoing and sociable, idealistic and peaceable. Indecisive and changeable, gullible and easily influenced, flirtatious and self-indulgent.”

“Beryl: Determined and forceful, emotional and intuitive, powerful and passionate, exciting and magnetic. Jealous, compulsive and obsessive, secretive and obstinate.”

“Citrine: Optimistic and freedom-loving, jovial and good-humored, straightforward, intellectual and philosophical. Blindly optimistic and irresponsible and superficial, tactless and restless.”

“Ruby: Practical and prudent, ambitious and disciplined, patient and careful, humorous and reserved. Pessimistic and fatlitic, miserly and grudging”

He said, looking at them all in the eyes. Some students whispering to their friend or older sibling about the number of houses, some looking at the professors who is dressed in long black robes with their assigned house colours on the rims.

Vadone coughs, clearing his throat, causing the new one to quiet down and drag their attention back to headteacher Vadone. He turns to the table and picks up a scroll with a baby Indian cobra snake holding it shut. Vadone taps its head with his mopane wand.

“Once in a house, you will lead them to victory or possibly failure. It will be all up to you and the choices you make…”

He said as he picks up another scroll; He opens it and called the first student up to the table and flame.

“Baton, Alexander Baton,”

A girl with white hair, dressed in the school cloths which are coloured all black. She pricks the end of her pointer finger with the needle, holding her finger over the fire, watching the droplet slowly fall into the flame. The flame flickers white for a couple of seconds before changing its colour.

The flame dies down and then quickly reignites its self. This time the flame being a Brown-Red colour. Showing Alexander and the entire school that the flame believes she is fit to be in Carnelian House.

“Carnelian House!”

The headteacher exclaims as she walks over to the far right and joins the fellow Carnelian House Team. Two students stood up and started cheering while the rest are quietly sitting, clapping.

Alexander looks at the table solicitously, hands clutching her shirt, feeling a slight sickness in her stomach, numbness in the end of her fingers and toes. That school has known to be heavily uptight, overcritical and harsh, to hide how much they worry and fuss over things and other people.

She hesitantly takes a step before the head student of the house gently pulls her over, with a smile which could make anyone not from here would think she is a friendly person. Once she is seated and the room is quiet yet again, he looks at the next name.

“Brown, Noah Brown.”

A tall boy, seems like a nice guy who in introverted. He pokes his finger with the needle with a silent ‘Ouch’ coming from his mouth. He holds his finger over the gauntlet and wipes some blood on the inside, quickly pulling his hand away as the flame flares up suddenly.

Vadone gives him a look that made him jump a little;

“relax old man, I’m fine. The flames didn’t even touch me”. Noah says as the fire changes colour to a mix of colours of; brown, white, red, grey, pink, black and yellow.

“Agate house!”

The headteacher exclaimed as he goes over to the table holding the Agate kids who were shouting, screaming, being loud and being exticed over their new house friend. Once he sits down in one of the spare seats, he shakes hands with a couple of them, other getting high fives.

“Camp, Kyle Camp,”

A boy, around 5′8, with long, shoulder length black hair, walks over. Vadone remembers the last name instantly;

“Your father was a pain in the backside, breaking every rule possible. As for your mother… She wasn’t very liked by myself and the teachers.”

Vadone says annoyed, seeing visions of how he will be and act during the entire year, talking in class, talking over teachers, breaking windows, trying to break into other houses dormitories.

Once his blood-droplet is in the gauntlet is it instantly turned to a black shade. Onyx House started cheering and clapping, even rocking the table from side to side, being the loudest in the room. Some students even jumping on the table hitting their chest like apes.

“Onyx House!”

The headteacher exclaims as the boy makes his way to the table in the center. They called the next student up

“Cooper, Corey Cooper,”

A boy, around 6’4, short hair colours light brown, clear hair dye in it;

“Your father is an Onyx while your mother isn’t even a witch. Good luck to you and your twin for which school you are assisted too.” Vadone said to Corey as he nods. He picking the needling, feeling a tad bit nervous;

“Please not Onyx, please not Onyx.” He whispers as he uses the pin to draw out some blood and places it in the flame.

The flame is white for 5 seconds then changes to a green-red colour. Vadone looks at the flame in shock and amazement.

“BloodStone House!” He exclaims, gesturing over to the table on the very far left side of the room. The boy smiles and races over to the bloodstone house seats at the far back left of the room, smiling and welcoming him with friendly faces.

“Cooper, Joshua Cooper,”

Another tall boy, a little shorter than Corey, perhaps around 6’2, looking almost like Corey, walks over, however his hair is shoulder length, coloured a pure black.

“I see you and Corey are twins. By any chance are you the older twin by ten minutes?,”

The headteacher asks Joshua with a wild guess. Joshua nods, looking at Vadone, surprised;

“I’m the older twin by ten minutes.” He cheekily explains as he pokes the needle on the tip of his pointer finger. The same Green-Red colour appeared not long after

“BloodStone House!”

Joshua goes over to his twin, sitting next to HIm. Vadone frowns as he looks at the next students. He wanted to refuse that the Porto Rican De Costa family wasn’t coming back here; he thought the kids’ names on the papers were a hoax, a prank by Professor Lopez.

“Lailuh De Costa,”

He calls out, Professors Monta, Professor Lopez, and Professor Longville look up, astonished, also thinking the names were only a joke by Professor Lopez. She walks up to the table.

“Did I do something wrong?” She asks Headteacher Vadone who just shakes his head; “No, I was just in deep thought.” Vadone said to her as she picks up the sewing pin and pricks her finger with it.

She then holds her finger over the fire as a small blood droplet slowly drops into the fire. The fire dies down to almost completely gone. After a good 10 seconds, the gauntlet flame reignites with a bright red-coloured, partly candy floss pink flame.

“Ruby House!” The headteacher exclaims.

“De Costa, Scarlet De Costa,”

He says as Lailuh’s younger sister walks up. She does the same thing and the same Red that Lailuh appears.

“Ruby House!”

The headteacher explains as Scarlet joins her sister.

Soon everyone was sorted and sitting down, eating. Once most of the plates were clean, the head of each house brought the new batch to their houses.

Once the students are out and they shut the doors. Only leaving headteacher Vadone and Professor Longville left.

A sudden smell of a mix of rotten fish and burnt Sulphur seeped in through any cracks in the walls and windows

“Again...”

Professor Longville says pulling out her wand, casting the same wand spell she casted in the headteacher’s office;

“I will go around other rooms and clear them of this horrendous smell,”

She says, covering her mouth and nose with the sleeve of her robe.

Wayne’s Boys: Brad’s Dad Chapter 1

 Brad tried not to betray his nerves as the taxi took him to Wayne Manor. He’d done his research, and had read all the reputable (and some disreputable) papers. He’d even made notes! Not that he was going to leaf through his notes right now, that would be…weird, but he’d read over them earlier.

Bruce Wayne: 34 years old. Orphaned at the age of 8. Had a stormy affair with Amber Hall at the age of sixteen, shortly before leaving America for unspecified “travelling”, and never knew she became pregnant. Resident Gothamite. One (other) biological son, three adopted sons and two adopted daughters, and one long-term on-again/off-again girlfriend. CEO of Wayne Enterprises, with a special interest in Batman Incorporated, a division devoted to supporting various vigilantes, mostly in Gotham, but also globally.

Richard “Dick” Grayson: 22 years old. Orphaned at the age of 11 and adopted by Bruce shortly after. Formerly a professional acrobat and trapeze artist, now studying Forensics and Criminology. In a stable relationship with Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham’s police commissioner.

Jason Todd: 18 years old, but only just finished Sophomore. Complicated home life that left him on the streets, and Bruce adopted him when he was twelve, maybe – the press weren’t too sure. Ran off for a number of years, only to come back about a year and a half ago. There were unconfirmed rumours he was in a relationship with Helena.

Helena Kyle: 18 years old and lost her parents in the earthquake. Adopted less than a year ago after several years on the street. Just finished Junior year. Second cousin of Bruce’s girlfriend Selina.

Cassandra Cain. 17 years old. Any records of her life prior to the earthquake appeared to have been lost, but she was taken in and adopted after the crisis. Seemed to be part Asian, and had a tendency to speak rather stilted English.

Tim Drake. 15 years old. At the age of ten his mother was killed and his father sent to prison for smuggling. Bruce took him in, but when his father was released three years later, Jack Drake regained custody. It didn’t last long, as Jack was also killed. Tim was forced to shoot the murderer in self-defence. Then Bruce adopted him. Despite troubles with missing school for extended periods, Tim was a year ahead, having finished Sophomore. He was dating a girl called Stephanie Brown he’d met during the No Man’s Land crisis.

Damian Wayne. 11 years old. Bruce’s biological son. His mother was an unknown woman Bruce had met on his travels, who’d dropped Damian off on Bruce’s doorstep two years ago. Apparently was raised speaking Arabic.

Brad was eager to meet them all, but also very nervous.

The taxi stopped at the manor gates. “You sure you just want to get out here?” the driver asked.

“Yeah, here is fine,” Brad said. He grabbed his bag, slid out, and forked out the fare. He waited until the taxi pulled away before ringing the bell on the intercom.

After a moment, there was a reply. “Wayne Manor, what’s your business?”

“Um, hi,” Brad said awkwardly. “I’d like to speak to Mr Bruce Wayne, please. Personal business.”

“What’s your name, please?” the other guy asked. He sounded British.

“Brad Hall. If Mr Wayne’s not in, could I maybe speak to one of the family?” Brad asked.

There was a long pause before the response came. “You may come up to the house. Please do not stray from the drive.”

The large gates started to swing open as the intercom fell silent. Brad slung his bag over his shoulder and started up the drive.

Brad hadn’t really been sold on the idea of “how the other side live”, but he felt like he was starting to understand now. The grounds were expansive, well-mowed lawns, neatly trimmed hedges and carefully maintained flowerbeds. The manor was enormous. Before the impressive front doors, there was a fountain built into a fish pool.

The butler ushered Brad into the entrance hall. Again, it was astonishing – the kind of thing you’d expect to see in a Jane Austen movie. There was a black-haired young lady waiting.

“Mr Hall?” the lady said, holding her hand out. “Helena Wayne.”

“Hi,” Brad said, shaking her hand. “Please call me Brad.”

“Of course, Brad,” Helena said. “How can the Wayne family help you?”

“Um, well,” Brad stuttered. “It’s a bit…complicated?” He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his packet f papers, scrambling to find the right one.

As he did so, a young man came onto the landing. “Hello?” he said.

“Jason, this is Brad,” Helena said. “He has complicated personal business. Brad, Jason Todd-Wayne.”

“Yeah, uh, pleasure.” Brad gave a half-wave, before pulling out his birth certificate. “See, um, this is, uh, kinda embarrassing, but I’m…sorta your brother?”

Both Waynes tensed, and seemed to focus rather intently. “Could you clarify that, please?” Helena asked.

Brad held out the birth certificate. “Bruce had a short fling with my mother, but moved on before she knew she was pregnant. I’m his biological son, it’s just Mom didn’t want to get in touch, and only told me a couple months ago.”

Helena took the certificate as Jason joined her, reading over her shoulder. “Well, this says you’re Bruce’s son,” Jason said.

Helena smiled apologetically. “I’m sure you understand, there have been times when people have claimed to be related to Bruce for various reasons,” she explained. “We have to be careful about these things.”

Jason hummed. “There is something of a resemblance, though,” he mused. “I mean, the brown hair and eyes is throwing it off, and the jaw’s too soft, but his shoulders, the shape of the forehead…it’s plausible.”

Brad frowned. “Thanks, I think.”

“Let’s have something to drink, and talk about this,” Helena suggested.

The butler led them to the kitchen, and fixed a pot of coffee. Brad nervously took what was quite possibly a very expensive coffee cup, and sipped the drink. It was delicious.

“So, Brad, what are you hoping to achieve from this…reunion?” Helena asked.

Brad squirmed. “I’m not really trying to achieve anything, as such,” he explained. “I never had any siblings, and, well, the thought of being part of a big family appealed. I’m not expecting anything, I’m not trying to demand anything, I just want to try getting to know you.”

“You’re not after money?” Jason asked, narrowing his eyes.

Brad paused. He didn’t really want to say it, but had a feeling it would be better to be honest. “I wouldn’t mind some money,” he admitted. “I’m starting college, Gotham County, and, you know, it costs. But I’m not expecting Bruce to pay my way.”

Jason snorted, and muttered something in a foreign language. Helena smirked, and shook her head.

“Well, Bruce is in the Annexe at the Tower, but he’ll have time for us,” she said. “Want to go?”

Brad stared. “You’re inviting me to Wayne Tower?”

“Well, he won’t be home for hours, and this way we can drag him and Tim and Dami out for lunch,” Helena smiled.

“That’s…great,” Brad said weakly.

This was an even crazier family than he’d thought he’d be joining.

Three Smiles

Bruce Wayne was known for many things. Philanthropy by one group of people, and unbridled heroism by another. But smiling? That was definitely not something he was well known for. Not at all. But...there was one woman for which he smiled for, though she did put in quite a lot of work for it. It was always worth it for her in the end.

The three times that Mera made Bruce Wayne smile.
