Cecil: Listeners, today I have a guest with me here in the studio! Intern Vincent found our guest wandering in the desert as he was driving to the station this morning, and I jumped at the idea of having this guest on our show! So, why don’t you introduce yourself, mystery guest!

???: I’m… Grian. My name’s Grian.

Cecil: Well, welcome to our small community radio show, Grian! Listeners, Grian is-

Grian: Did you say listeners?

Cecil: Why yes! All of our wonderful citizens of NightVale, even the secret police, are listeners of my show!

Grian: Oh… never mind.

Cecil: As I was saying, listeners, our wonderful, if a tad interrupting-y, guest Grian is wearing a torn red sweater, black pants, and closed-toed shoes. I must say, that’s quite a fashion statement, Grian! Not too many people would wear a sweater in the desert. You must not be from around here!

Grian: I… no, I’m not. I’m not quite sure how I got here… I just… I thought I could escape the desert if I walked far enough.

Cecil: Well, as long as you’re not from Desert Bluffs, I’ll call you a friend! Eugh, Desert Bluffs, am I right? But speaking of Desert Bluffs, let me remind all of you that our half-a-millennia traditional triathlon against Desert Bluffs is almost upon us! Volunteers, taken from their homes at four in the morning with bags over their heads, will be competing in three sports events against our bitter rivals, Desert Bluffs. The three sports events, as is tradition, will be: bloodstone dodgeball, confronting the in-laws over broken boundaries, and pickleball. Good luck, NightVale athletes!

Grian: Did you just say, like, words? Like, genuinely, it feels like I just had a stroke. What on earth is a bloodstone?

Cecil: You know, I should have known you weren’t from around here, what with your funny accent. Where are you from, silly little man?

Grian: I… well, that’s a tough one, really. Hermitcraft? Third Life SMP? The Desert? All of them, I suppose. I really don’t know how I got here… I’m not sure this isn’t all a mirage.

Cecil: And you say I say strange things! Well, Grian, I was about to remark on how other cultures may not have bloodstones, but I just noticed all of the blood on your knuckles, and under your fingernails, and on the cuffs of your sweater, which I still do not think is seasonally appropriate.

Grian: Oh god. I thought I scrubbed it off with the sand. Scar…

Cecil: While we figure out the mysteries of the blood here in the studio, and Grian stares down at his hands in horror, let’s take a look at traffic. There is a man with a clock. He stands. He smiles. He will never stop smiling. They will call him a traitor someday, but for now, the traitor lies dead, the present he gave in the hands of that smiling man. They do not know that the clock, golden in its edges, will bind them together in ways they can’t even understand yet.

Grian: Scar is- Scar was my friend. I promised my life to him.

Cecil: I’ve promised my life to someone too! But it was marriage, to my beautiful Carlos. I love Carlos so much.

Grian: Scar… god, he was such a blundering fool, but with a heart and voice of gold. I didn’t think he’d get as far as he did, but we just kept getting away with it. We didn’t think about the end.

Cecil: What did this Scar wear? This is a audio medium, after all, Grian, and I must describe everything to the listeners.

Grian: He didn’t wear much, like, ever. Super annoying, too many abs.

Cecil: There is no such thing as too many abs, Grian.

Grian: I- sure, okay. Can I get back to my story now?

Cecil: Yes, please do! I am sure everyone, especially the secret police, are very interested.

Grian: I killed him with a creeper first. It was a prank, a mistake, but it really cemented the idea that this wasn’t all fun and games. It felt like fun and games for a long time, even after he died for the first time. It wasn’t until-

I kept hitting him and hitting him and, god, Scar was never the best at fighting… and we were both laughing and I was crying and there was so much blood… it took so long for him to die, Cecil, and all I could do was keep hurting him, so he wouldn’t suffer. And then I was… alone. I said I was sorry, but he couldn’t hear me. No one could hear me anymore. I had won, but at what cost?

Cecil: That’s very dark! Uh, listeners, our guest Grian has a tear running down his cheek, and I am afraid he may burst into outright sobbing! To save you from that audio nightmare, I take you now to the weather!

Do you remember how because we learned he was voiced by mister welcome to nightvale Cecil Baldwin that he was gonna play a demon from Bill’s dimension. Do you remember that everyone drew him as a blue square to represent him being the polar opposite of Bill himself.

Do you guys ALSO remember the time that everyone thought the star on the cipher wheel (and therefore the star on top of the tent of telepathy) was another demon from Bill’s dimension. Do you remember that everyone called him Kryptos. Do you remember the theories about Gideon teaming up with this demon Kryptos to take down the Pines family after Bill “betrayed him”. Do you remember. Do you remember how absolutely insane everyone went when Weirdmageddon Part 1 aired and we learned that there really was a demon from Bill’s dimension named Kryptos. I need podcast recommendations, here is a history of my likes and dislikes when it comes to podcasts.

Malevolent: 10/10 love hearing Arthur's life get worse every episode.

Midnight burger: 1000/10 found family? Caspar getting roasted by Ava? The WOLF LADY GLORIA?? amazing.

Red valley: 8/10 poor Gordon. But listening to Clives life fall apart was a treat

The mistholme museum: 6/10 ran out of places to go and the author I feel lost the passion for the project and just wanted to end it. I feel like it went too big too fast and could have benefit from a slower plot progression.

TMA: 7/10. I'll be honest it didn't really leave an impact. John being a paranoid idiot every episode made it more funny than anything else especially since he was half wrong about everything.

Desert Skies: 4/10 really cute podcast, the writing is not my cup of tea.

Welcome to nightvale: 5/10 I really appreciate everything that it has done for podcasts as a media but this is one of those rare times when I feel like the series is too long and the overarching story gets lost. I can't even remember if there was one.

Tower 4: 3/10 why am I hearing this man's internal dialog? I did not like it. Great dialog and voice acting but I couldn't do it.

Death by Dying: 7/10, loved the first season. I tried the second and I feel like the story was pretty complete already so the second felt pretty meh, but that's just me.

The slit verses: ?/10 cannot rate because I didn't finish it and I don't want to give a bad rating. I listened to the first episode and a half and felt very confused and lost because they kept talking in code If anyone can tell me if things clear up I would greatly appreciate it.

Wolf 359: 8/10, I listened to the first hour of the finale and noped out because I recognize death flags and no. Nope. Absolutely not.

Limetown: 8/10 loved the story and the puzzle clicking together. Loved the twist at the end, loved how the characters felt real. Lia Haddock deserved better.

Hello everyone! This is a bit of a different Writerblr introduction. I wanted to join this wonderful community and chronicle some of my writing projects that I plan to one day turn into an audio roleplay series, maybe even a book, who knows. I'm a Voice Actor and you can call me Fiend. I very much enjoy creating supernatural worlds and am inspired by podcasts like Welcome To Nightvale and The Magnus Archives.

About The Projects

I have created a multilayered Universe for my projects, in which I write different character-driven narratives that affect a world consumed by mystery and the supernatural. These are meant to be interactive stories, so each character interacts with the listener and will be voiced by me in my upcoming audio series!

Beast Beneath The Moonlight: A story about Gabriel, an idealistic intern at a hospital whose life goal is to save as many people as he can. He is turned into a werewolf and is then forced to confront his inner beast, contemplate mortality and understand the true meaning of strength.

Written in Blood: Killian, a very old vampire from a bygone era, struggling to cope with the death of his lover centuries before, trying his best to live his remaining days in peace until his very bloody past starts to catch up to him.

Fiends With Benefits: Levi, a half-demon caught between the Mortal and Supernatural world, expected to be the best by both worlds while not being accepted by either. He lives under his predecessor's shadow until a plot that could unravel Fiend Society is brought to light.

There will be more stories within this world, so stay tuned.

i still think the most underrated but interesting (accidental?) plot similarity in wtnv is between carlos and huntokar......both found nightvale as an oasis of things and decided to settle, both started receiving attention and being considered protectors of the city, and being so obsessed with it they constantly mess with it, but they have the best intentions and so are different by the others who only want to ruin it for their amusement (janet, the other gods) but in the long run, are their actions really different? both love cecil but also kind of treat him in a weirdly possessive way like he's their own little special thing. is huntokar a good god? she thought she was, and the other people thought so as well. is carlos a good person? well he definitely thinks he's doing good. and cecil thinks he is. so

A Short Piece On Cal and the Quote That Broke My Heart. (Ep 1-108 Spoilers) (CW for queer trauma)

The only context you will need is that Cecil's brother comes to visit him and in the process Cecil enters into another reality closer to ours in terms of ideology.

Up until Cal, you've spent over 100 episode with Cecil Palmer. You hear him be unapologetically himself. You hear him unapologetically fall in love and finally unapologetically get married to that man.

Welcome to Nightvale is what I would describe as an idealistic queer society. This does not mean the society in itself is 'Idealistic'. That's hardly how I would describe the horrors that sweep Nightvale on the frequent. No, what I mean is that this is a world, or at the least a town, where queer isn't even in its people's vocabulary. At no point does WTNV ever use the word 'Gay'. People fall in love and people exist as themselves without needing to explain. That is an idealistic queer society.

And then you reach episode 108, Cal. I first listened to nightvale a couple years back. In fact I believe I have only listened to this episode once. And one quote from it has stuck with me ever since. Not because it was particularly dramatic, mind you. In fact, what hit me about it was the complete opposite. Because Welcome to Nightvale broke my heart with an internal monologue that is almost mundane to us queer listeners. Cecil anecdotes about a conversation he has with his brother in this other reality where his brother asks him if he has a girlfriend yet and Cecil recounts thinking this:

"In my life with Cal, I had never told him I would never have a girlfriend. In Night Vale, no one cared either way, but I felt like Cal would have. In this other reality, I was single, so I only said “No.” "

After over a hundred episodes of escapist queer joy, you hear Cecil, a man who has lived his life being able to just exist, feel shame. A deep seated shame conditioned into every queer person. Every time you are told things are getting better when you complain that things are still bad. Every time you are made to feel like you are unworthy of love or only worthy of suffering. No matter how confident. That trauma. That deep deep shame remains.

It is a systemic shame not found in these idealistic societies. 

It's a reality check of an episode, that although intentional or not, lets you feel everything you've been conditioned to suppress. I cried for Cecil and I cried for myself. Because realising how much this character I loved didn't deserve to feel that way about who he was made it hit me how much I, as a queer person, also do not deserve to feel that way. My empathy for him reflected back upon myself and I was heartbroken.

My heart broke for a character's suffering that is just my everyday reality.

In my opinion it's one thing for a piece of media to show you your suffering; it's a whole other thing for it to make you truly feel like you don't deserve it.

While personally I think that should be enough, he’s going against a cat from Welcome to Nightvale, and I know that fandom shows up so…

Juan is a wizard in training who specializes in potions. In Monster Camp, this is used to shake up the game each round because he’s also the camp bartender. His potions can do everything from hide your stats so you’re going in blind, change the music and art style, and unlock strange and unique plotlines.

While he isn’t given a character sprite in the original Monster Prom, he can often be found at outdoor parties. He’ll challenge how fun you are, convince a crowd that your moves will be the next big dance craze, and you’ll reminisce about all the wacky hijinks you got up to in middle school.

Please… give him this… He’s so cute and he has to have 3 adjectives and his species in his title because there’s so many other Juan’s in his school. Let him know he is special and just another Juan.

thoughts on the michael palin episode of the torchwood radio series (with very minimal knowledge of torchwood or doctor who)

yes i'm only two episodes into doctor who and no i have not seen torchwood. if you're wondering why in the world i listened to the episode anyway, the answer is simply: michael palin.

this is very welcome to nightvale "a story about you" vibes and i love it.

three things i find very amusing: 1) michael palin canonically exists in the doctor who extended universe, 2) the destructive psychic being trying to take over the world is aware of him, and 3) the destructive psychic being trying to take over the world chose to impersonate michael palin voicing an ASMR self-help tape to try and rope people into their evil plan.

(addendum: just found out that monty python is canon to doctor who and the doctor claims to have come up with the name for flying circus. that's fun!!)

I’ve been listening to the Mayfair Watchers Society, it’s apparently a horror podcast based on Trevor Henderson’s work (if you don’t know who that Is I recommend looking him and his art up he’s like my favorite horror artist). I’ve only listened to like three episodes so far but they’re very interesting, it’s kinda similar to welcome to nightvale in which this is a strange town with strange scary things that happen but it’s seemed to be told more from the citizen perspective rather than an outside narrator. It’s very episodic monster of the week style and it seems like every episode has new characters so there’s not really a main character to follow it’s just like a new horror story every episode but it’s very compelling and it was a little iffy at first with the voice acting but I’ve grown very fond of it. The storytelling style is very interesting and like it’s not something for me to crazy obsess over but I have been enjoying it THOROUGHLY! The style is interesting to, so far it’s all been told through recordings similar to tma (which I still haven’t finished lol) either phone calls, meeting recordings, autopsy reports etc. it’s a very interesting storytelling style and it’s so compelling and I’ve found out the episodes are based on the Trevor Henderson art in the thumbnail picture of each episode. I believe he also has a part in creating the podcast. I’m like immediately writing a jay/Chip fic based on the first episode I love it so much

OH HELL YEAH i miss a good proper spooky podcast. trevors art is so sick holy shit??? oh and i played like 2 or 3 sessions of monsters of the week years ago, alas the group disbanded before we got to get silly with it, but i enjoyed it!! i'll check it out yesyes :3

Selcouth Valley

The people in Selcouth Valley are a pleasant sort, the kind of small town where everyone does actually know everyone. It's got its quirks of course, like the fact that the entire town lives in the same neighborhood of near identical cheerful well maintained houses and on Tuesdays the power always shuts off for a few hours and there's never a good signal.

But it makes up for that with its sense of community, the neighborhood barbecues, the cozy atmosphere, the near zero crime rate. So of course (your character), looking for a fresh start moves in. And of course, she feels like she has finally found a home.

And well ... her next door neighbor mows his lawn shirtless and might be the closest thing to a Grecian God she has ever seen. (My character) on top of being attractive is polite, charismatic, and funny. The community seems to look up to him as some sort of leader.

And he seems to have an interest in her! It might be too good to be true.

It is.

What's that expression -- the hills are watching? Or is it the hills are alive?

The tone for this RP is very much Uncanny Valley, Welcome to Nightvale, cryptids, and cults. This can be as light hearted or a gritty as you would like. I'm also a fan of involving a child character into this plot possibly on either side for yours or my character.

The relationship between our characters can be one of genuine love or conman manipulation. I have no triggers and so I'm open to working with whatever you have in mind.

Some of the general tones or topics I personally enjoy are psychological manipulation, romanticized cannibalism, and cryptid worship, but these are optional. I really want this to have an unnerving edge to it.

I'm still fairly new to RP on tumblr, but have over a decade of experience in general! Feel free to check out my CAARD for my rules, about me, and a writing sample.

I love to make friends with my partners, a big portion of roleplay for me is being able to chat about our characters. I like making playlists, Pinterest boards, edits, sometimes even short stories, so if you don't typically like to chat we likely won't be compatible.

I don't mind RPing through Tumblr reblogs or Discord (though I prefer to have a dedicated server to keep things organized).

Features Steve talking himself though discovering his sexuality in approximately five minutes while on the phone with a baffled Jonathan, and him aggressively flirting with the local metalhead. He's also very good at being an unreliable narrator.

It ALSO features said local metalhead (who thinks himself straight) accidentally flagging, calling Steve Harrington princess in a totally straight way, and doing the ttrpg equivalent of doodling your crush's name on a notebook over and over. Also, somehow he's convinced himself he just hates Steve.

This won't end badly for anyone, I'm sure.
