My argument for Rafe Cameron

I’d like to just point out how throughout the whole of season 1 Rafe was a somewhat reasonable, respectable kid.

The episode ‘Midsummers’ for instance, when Topper gets upset over Sarah in the beginning and he tries cheering him up. He couldve pushed it off or laughed at him like you’d expect him to but he doesn’t.

Again later in the episode when he’s chasing JJ inside, he apologises for running into a woman. The subtitles I’m pretty sure say it was Kelce but from the voice alone it clearly wasn’t. Netflix does that a lot with the subtitles I’ve noticed.

Also when you look at the show itself from both sides, the Pogues are close to being as bad as the Kooks in a way. They’re all just defending their own side of the island. With JJ and his gun in the first episode protecting his friend, John B. And Rafe in another when he hits pope with the golf club, he was protecting Topper from what he wasn’t there to do the day of the gun incident. (I am in no way saying pope deserved it because he didn’t and that scene makes me cry, I just like seeing everything from both perspectives) like as he mentioned when working out, that he thinks them pointing a gun to toppers head was unreasonable and should have a consequence. To him that was his way of helping a friend.

Just because the Kooks did worse and more bad things, doesn’t mean the Pogues aren’t in themselves just as bad. To them, the gold was theirs, they had been searching for it for years (well Big John - ‘the Pogues’) and so it belonged to them. But then on the other hand, Rafe thought it was his and Wards because he never knew the Pogues were looking for it as he only found out through Wards side of the story. Hence why he thinks the cross should be his later on in season 2 and 3.

Rafe had no connection to the gold (technically) in season 1 as his only role in the show at the time was basically preventing the Pogues from finding it for reasons outside of that like Sarah joining the Pogues, JJ and the gun incident etc.

Season 2 all he’s doing is protecting what Ward had told him was theirs. To Rafe the cross belonged to Ward first and with the whole Peterkin incident, he needed a focus point. Thats why he attached himself to the cross as he saw it as a way to save himself. And a way to get closer to Ward which is obviously shown when Ward says to Sarah (infront of Rafe may I add??) that he’d pick her over Rafe despite everything he’d done for him previous to that. Like shoot peterkin and steal the cross back.

Also when he asks Sarah to stop and just stay with him after they thought that Ward had died. He just needed someone with him. He wanted to basically call a ‘truce’ in some way I guess. If she had stayed with him maybe they would’ve sided together earlier on? Maybe just my delulu brain working.

Season 3 he (controversially, this is very arguable I know this is just my opinion) genuinely wanted to help Kiara. He had no reason to help her, she wanted nothing to do with him through any of the seasons, her friends got him in prison and ‘killed his dad’ according to him, so why would he have any reason to help her other than the simple fact of, he wanted to. He cares more than he lets on we know that from the Sofia scenes. But I also agree with the argument that Kiara had no reason to let him help her too. Like I get why she pushed him off the boat, he ruined all their lives pretty much. But the intention of helping her was there and when she ran off to take a photo of the map, he waited for her, he could’ve run off and left her there again but no he didn’t.

I’m not defending Rafes actions and in NO WAY am I an expert in psychology and all that stuff this is simply completely and utterly an opinion based post and I hope people can relate? Idk enjoy! 😘

a/n: i loved this concept and idk why but i just see connor being a very overprotective brother.

“I just don’t get why you’re moving here, why would you want to move when you can stay closer to your family?” You should have known that telling Connor your plans would have gone this way. He had always been the protective older brother but the minute you had really entered the dating world he had only gotten worse. It didn’t get any better when you started dating Matthew Tkachuk and even though they had no problems beforehand now Connor liked making problems simply because you were his baby sister.

“Maybe because my boyfriend lives here and flying back and forth is tiring. I finished school this past semester there’s nothing really keeping me there.” You told him and you knew the minute the words left your mouth it was. “Except your family.” There it was, you weren’t sure why he had to make this a picking game.

He had willingly come down to Florida to watch the Eastern Conference Final with you and spend some time here with Matthew and his family. For some reason you had thought now would be a good time to spring this information on him, something you and Matthew had talked about for months now but was actually close to becoming a reality. “Connor, you’re my big brother and I appreciate you but I’m not a baby anymore.” You warned him because you knew this wasn’t about just the moving.

“It’s just you’re my baby sister, you’re one of my best friends and now you start dating this guy and you’re just leaving.” You knew Matthew would be home soon, he had just gone to grab some takeout food for all of you and you wanted to get everything cleared up before he got back. “We’ve been together for a year this isn’t sudden.” You pointed out and he gave you a big sigh, nodding his head and you knew it was finally hitting him that he was being unreasonable.

At that same moment you heard the door open and in came your boyfriend with what seemed like enough food to feed the whole apartment complex. “I got a little bit of everything for us.” He told you as he set everything on the table. “Babe, there’s three of us.” A laugh left your lips as he gave you a quick kiss to the top of your head, the way he always greeted you regardless of how long it had been since the last time he saw you.

You all sat down at the table, grabbing different containers of food and enjoying the deliciousness of it. Connor took this time to finally speak up. “So Matthew, I heard my sister was planning on moving down here with you.” Your stomach did a flip because was he about to just freak out on your boyfriend about this. “Yeah, we talked about it but we also thought that for the summers and off season we could go up there to spend time with your family and mine.”

That was one thing you hadn’t mentioned to Connor because of the way he had originally reacted but you could tell what Matthew had said was enough to soften the whole blow of you moving away from your family. “Well, I guess all I can say is you better take care of her and don’t think that next season I’ll take it easy on you just because you’re dating my sister.”

➥ idk if this is my longest rant ever, especially considering i am known to hit discord’s character limit multiple times over in the same rant. that being said, this did get quite long, so i’m throwing my responses under the cut

22.) Give us a headcanon for Akito.

➥ this is kinda headcanon kinda just extrapolation of canon, but i love protective akito who refuses to admit it.

akito moving where he’s standing to block the wind from hitting kohane or the sun from getting in her eyes. he just doesn’t like standing still that’s why he moved. and he’s not making sure she sticks next to him in a crowd, she’s the one that choose to follow him.

akito showing up to class with an extra hoodie just coincidentally. he definitely didn’t notice fact that an happened to have gotten her sweater wet and was cold without it. and he definitely doesn’t care either way if she takes his extra.

akito redirecting the conversation when someone is too pushy or nosy to toya and he’s too polite to protest. and it’s not like he did it intentionally, he just thought of something else he wanted to say.

akito shooting his father dirty looks whenever he’s too critical or aggressive to ena, but making sure she never notices. his dad certainly won’t tell.

➥ if anyone were to point it out, he’d deny it, but he cares very deeply for his loved ones. sometimes he talks to meiko about it, since she seems to be so good at being comforting up front. and she ensures him that he is plenty caring, he just doesn’t do it in the same way

➥ while i do love his voice, i think it would just have to be his passion and determination. i am jealous that he has this long-term goal to work towards that’s he’s incredibly passionate about, that he enjoys enough to work thru struggles, and that he has really good friends he’s working towards it with. i tend to feel kinda directionless and hide from the future, so i just really admire him and i wish i could be more like that. so maybe that’s why i made this blog? to try to be more like him? damn. 200 days and i’m finally figuring out why i decided to do this lmao.

25.) What's your least favourite thing Akito said or did?

➥ there’s two things that come to mind right away. one is i wish he’d stop teasing tsukasa but scaring him with insects. like he doesn’t have to look up to tsukasa, but he could at least try to be cordial.

➥ the other thing—the one that is going to prompt a very long rant—is Akito in the vbs main story. and why i think he acts the way he does.

i guess the most factual answer to that question is the writers wanted more conflict in story, but like why as a character did akito act like that.

the initial “an amateur/someone uncommitted shouldn’t go around claiming they’re going to surpass rad weekend” sentiment does seem to be pretty common on vivid street. we see it with both arata and taiga, and we know that when akito was younger he was not always treated very well by the residents of vivid street. it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that some of this was also people being upset about a random middle schooler running around claiming he’s going to get better than radder. akito may have proved himself over time, but he is still considered somewhat of an outsider to vivid street. so i could see him saying the same thing that was said to him to kohane to make him feel more like he fit in.

side tangent: i wonder how much of this sentiment comes from many of the older residents (particularly taiga) knowing about the significance of rad weekend to nagi, and since akito and the kids don’t even know nagi is dead, of course they’re not going to treat rad weekend with that type of reverence. to them it was always just a really epic show, they don’t know that it was nagi’s swan song or understand all the baggage that goes with that.

OK, OK, back to akito. iirc, akito’s comments to kohane (and an) are not terribly aggressive at first? sure akito is a bit skeptical of kohane and is definitely poking at her to see her response, but i don’t really see his threats to out-perform the vivids as too much more than a kind of joking rivalry that he and an probably already had going to an extent.

the big thing to me that i really had to think about to come to an understanding is why akito claims he cut the power. he doesn’t seem to be particularly fond of mita. they’re obviously well acquainted, but it’s also pretty clear they’re not seeing eye-to-eye.

mita’s decision to cut the power was probably driven by the same reasons as akito. he learned from the people of vivid street that when someone who’s not someone claims they’re going to be better than rad weekend, you put them down. obviously pulling the plug on their performance was a bit extreme, but based on how harsh arata/taiga are in their initial appearances, a kid who’s trying really hard to prove himself and fit it could definitely go too far whilst trying to prove himself.

akito claiming he pulled the power is definitely a spur of the moment decision. once again, iirc, an is accusatory when she catches the bad dogs confronting mita, and even tho i don’t recall rn exactly the way everything plays out, someone like akito who has grown up in a family with a lot of volatile personalities, wouldn’t hesitate to jump to a defense. that defense being “well you guys deserved it.” obviously isn’t a very good one, but like i’ve said, i think there’s enough evidence to suggest that these kids were taught that to fit in on vivid street, you have to prove yourself and put people who think they’re better than they are down.

in akito’s mind, taking the blame for cutting the power was basically like lying for street cred, and it helped him prove his same point. akito is a deeply passionate and determined person. and this is so central to his identity that he dislikes disingenuous or unmotivated people. maybe he sees it a bit as a personal attack.

➥ point is, while ultimately shit-talking to kohane and taking the blame for cutting the power were rude/bad decisions, i don’t think they were ooc for akito. do i wish he had not been a dick? yes. don’t ask me how akito ended up as my fav when i’m not actually a huge fan of seeing him be an asshole. i do enjoy when he’s playfully antagonistic to some like an or ena (or toya to an extent) who will dish it back to him, but i don’t usually enjoy akito being an asshole just for the sake of it. he should either know the other person with give him back what he deserves, or the person should actually deserve it. i would love to see akito get to fist fight someone who’s actually asking for it.

Some things I want to touch (To my understanding this is what I perceived)

Rue didn’t choose to serve the court of wonder like it was some planned decision. Rue was an orphan who was kidnapped and forced to stay in the fae relem no? I think it makes sense for Rue to take the place next of the ppl who raised them.

So Oscar/Rue took the love at first sight route. Doesn’t inherently make it selfish, unreasonable, or shallow. I’ve heard plenty of stories of ppl getting together within days/weeks/months of meeting each other. Some people feel differently

Just because Rue lived in a place of lavish doesn’t mean they can’t be sad. Idk maybe it hit me more personally bc I saw it as yk yt parents non-black kid adoption. Rue being an OwlBear just trying to fit in in the society around them. We always say money doesn’t buy happiness why can’t this apply to Rue?

The love Rue wanted was romantic love. They may have had the love of the people, court, Wuvy, etc but it wasn’t the love they WANTED. Is Rue not allowed to want love? Love that is of kissing and holding and not making face and contracts?

It’s almost like the Bloom is made to make connections of any kind 💀 Again I don’t understand why it’s wrong for Rue to want to love somebody/love them. Rue didn’t force Hob to fall in love. Rue didn’t feed him a love potion or pushed him till he breaks.

I feel like we are a being harsh on Rue for being more emotional/dramatic but at the end of the day this is a dnd game. These characters actions rely on the descriptions provided by the player. If they add in a sigh here or a tears in the eyes there I don’t think it’s fair to fully put that on the character without the context of performance.

Wuvy Wuvy Wuvy. I love Wuvy but it’s clear that their relationship was platonic .l. I think Rue has felt that everything Wuvy has done (sort of) was due to responsibility of position/duty. Ofc Wuvy denies that but we don’t know how long Rue felt this way. I don’t think we see any evidence that says Rue told Wuvy to To change herself and make herself smaller I think Wuvy did that out of the love of her heart. If I had to take a major guess I would assume Rue made these changes to themselves first and Wuvy followed so that they wouldn’t be alone. While Wuvy may follow Rue command her actions are of her own. Did Rue do Wuvy wrong from time to time. Yes!

To imply that Rue is selfishly satisfying this hunger through Hob is crazy to me. I feel like y’all are babying this man. Hob was major and was set to be married. At the end it was Hob who went after Rue not the other way around. If he wanted to he could’ve atleast cleared the air with Rue then continue his duties. No one told him to hold on to Rue token. No one told him to dance with Rue. No one made him give Rue his badge. No one forced him to quit. He decided those things bc of his own heart not Rues.

Ig my question is if Rue only loves Hob bc of what he “represents” (like this idolization I suppose) why does Hob love Rue. He had his court, his honor, his goblins. A big chunk was Hob being to loyal to his court.

P.S The thing with the goblin court was f’ed up. Just makes Rue flawed not horrible.

TLDR: I’m more trying to fight I’m just RueHob number one defender. I’m not digging on anyone or being like “I’m right you’re wrong”. I’m just expressing my feelings after being on an 8 episode rollercoaster

i can't believe they're gonna end the season with eddie dating some women he meets in the next episode, like what are we doing here. This sucks.

Okay a) we know nothing. Nothing. Except that she’s in the episode. B) if he does date her, so what? His arc has been centered around the idea of at least needing to try and put himself out there, and that if he gets himself to a place where he can unpack some of his baggage about romance, maybe he can stop being so afraid about going after what he really wants. Right now, Buck isn’t ready for what he and Eddie would be (which, imo, is pretty damn forever as soon as they actually get together) and is a pretty big mess with a fair bit of work to do—for all Eddie knows, Buck may never be ready. Is Eddie supposed to just wait around and settle for a half-measure of what he really wants on the off chance that Buck will finally wake up one day who knows how long in the future and see what’s been in front of him the whole time? How is that fair?

Basically, I’m 100% committed to the idea that Buddie canon is the ultimate end goal here, but I also don’t think the writers should have to shortchange their storytelling to get there. And I’ll be honest that as much as I’ve loved them slamming the gas towards that end goal throughout 6B, it was feeling a little rushed to me given how little time there was left in the season. And as I said after 6x15, they clearly have more planned with Buck’s story than I anticipated. Which is okay!

If (again, we don’t know anything for sure yet) Eddie dates her, I don’t expect it to end up being more than a way for him to work through his romantic baggage in a way that’s much more low-stakes than it would be if, say, he jumped into something with Buck. I don’t expect it to end up being anything that serious. Idk if it would even be something to last the hiatus. But I also think that we’ve been shown pretty clearly and consistently (at least imo) that Eddie knows how he feels for Buck while Buck is simply…oblivious. And if his options are therefore 1) pine alone forever, 2) tell Buck and risk ruining what they do have especially when Buck isn’t ready (and has already in his own way kind of rejected Eddie anyway), or 3) try to move on—I’m not going to give the writers shit for having him at least explore the possibility of moving on. I may not expect it to work, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable choice for him to try. And again, I feel comfortable looking at everything else they’ve done and saying endgame of this story is Buddie canon, no matter how long it takes to get there. So idk I’m just vibing.

I’d quite like to explore that older-brother-Eris side at some point (maybe not in this, I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew). I feel like we get to see a small sliver of it in acosf in that scene where Cass goes down to the human lands and Eris lets slip that he’s feeling out Vassa and Jurian but doesn’t mention Lucien, as if he already trusts him. Then obviously we also have the whole conflict of what happened between Lu and Jesminda (pretty sure when Tam is telling Feyre of Lu’s backstory he says Lu’s oldest brother held him down or something to that degree—while Eris claims he wasn’t there and it’s the only time he’s disobeyed his father)

ANYWAY, I’d love to explore that in more depth because he’s such an interesting character :)

okay. So. This is gonna be a long one so buckle up. Basically, long story short, changing the entire industry and the way we consume music as a result. Charting won’t matter nearly so much, and promo will have a lot less of a monetary incentive.

pros: I hope on a site like tumblr this is pretty obvious. All people deserve a living wage and the whole broke musician sleeping in their car til they make it big stereotype excludes a lot of people and actually causes a lot of trauma that probably has something to do with the high mortality rate of musicians even after they make it. More people from poor backgrounds being able to do music ESPECIALLY in countries that are marginalised by the industry. A lot less ability for labels and managers to take advantage of people which we see all the time. Musicians can afford things like therapy and actual instruments and education without having to work another job even before they’ve made it big.

basically what I’m proposing is this: streaming services like spotify reverse their tiers of income to artist per stream and it’s more like tax brackets: the less streams you get, the more you earn per stream. until you can from one full length album earn enough to survive. you do earn marginally more the more it’s streamed so I don’t get yelled at too badly—but it’s like being in a higher tax bracket, you take home more in the end but the government or streaming company takes a higher portion, so it should be a win win situation. Ticket prices to shows are also capped but not unreasonably: you can still sell packages with VIP and merch there’s just a top price that’s only waivered if you do some charity donation with a percentage.

cons: need regulation to ensure streaming services don’t completely bar the work of lower performing artists (but remember they still take a cut. and if you get zero streams you still earn nothing so you will need some promo, just so the streaming services don’t get mad at me. I know that’s not quite UBI it’s the best I got sorry). there’s the whole idea that artists will make bad low effort songs just to get a high percentage of the cut of them—but refer to previous point, this may not be a problem. also, with so many good songs already there do you think people are genuinely gonna put in no effort? if you made a song that’s already a lot of effort. HOWEVER

Using AI to make songs might cause problems so idk maybe some regulation there—I think there is already is there? or can we just tell when there’s humanity in something?

there’s the possibility that the streaming services go out of business because bigger artists remove their music from them (bigger artists being their main source of revenue). I don’t know how to properly mitigate this risk—other than stopping said big artists creating competition platforms that are basically the same as the platforms we have now. idk maybe it’s just me but I can’t see this making it any worse, only better. we need to value art and artists and the income discrepancy does no one any good.

hello friend!! here's my (kinda tough-love <3) take

i think that physical touch and intimacy are very closely intertwined for a lot of people (especially in cultures where skinship between friends, or even just generally, is less common.)

regardless of the basis of you and your friend's relationship (platonic or otherwise,) there is a widely-understood though often unspoken line as to what is acceptably considered "friendly physical touch" versus something that is inappropriate or could be a violation of your partner's trust. you're the only one who can reflect on that and answer which category it fell into, but i would encourage you to really try and look at the situation objectively; i think right now you need to set aside your own love language (and the love language of your platonic friend), and try to foreground the perspective of your partner who has expressed to you that his feelings are hurt—and who might not view physical touch the same way you do.

i don't know the details (and don't need to know!!) but if you think that maybe you did inadvertently cross the line, it's up to you to sort of right that wrong as best you can. i don't see why any friendships would need to end over it; just talk to your friend about how it was inappropriate/inadvertently hurt someone you care about and can't happen again, but that it doesn't change that you care about him as a friend and hope that he understands and can respect that too. if your friend is a good friend and has your best interests at heart he'll understand that, and if your partner is reasonable and you explain to him that you reflected on it, see his point, and this is how you plan to move forward, then i think it's only fair that he accept that and carry on too.

however!! if you think about your relationship with your friend and feel like your partner is being unreasonable, then you need to have an open conversation with your partner expressing what the boundaries are for physicality outside of your relationship. it might just be that you personally need physical touch from others that does not make your partner feel safe or secure. neither of you are wrong for that, just incompatible. but you can't know those boundaries and needs unless they are communicated openly.

Alright, gonna post some more Despair Time rambles because we're now on hiatus and gosh I need the copium

With David proving to be as deceptive as he is, many are understandably questioning if he's actually exaggerating his "evil" persona. I don't have strong opinions yet, but I do think this is an interesting idea. It kind of appeals to me because it does kind of have that Kokichi element of struggling to learn his true intentions, and I love those kinds of characters. When I was expecting a reveal/breakdown, I kind of WAS expecting something like Kokichi but more charismatic.

Granted, IDK if he's exactly like Kokichi besides being unable to trust anything he says, I actually see many comparing him to Syobai from SDRA2, and while I do see it, Syobai seems more apathetic with his cynicism, while David actually seems bitter about something. Something I saw that could tie into the idea his depression could still be true is that there's an element of self loathing, and maybe he hasn't just given up on everyone else, but HIMSELF too.

I bring this up because people seemed to think his breakdown over Arei last episode was genuine. He also seemed genuinely shocked when Arei hugged him, IMO. Also just contradictory things he says about her and in general. So if this all ends up being the case and we follow this train of thought... what if David actually envies Arei? If we assume he believes people are set in their ways and can't change, what if Arei deciding to try and make that effort touched a nerve in him? And I mean, he was kind of a catalyst for that too, with her breakdown and confession, so dude must have a lot of weird complicated feelings there.

Another thing I was thinking about is possibilities if Hu ISN'T the killer. Like, I still think she's most likely for reasons I've said, but to entertain the idea she isn't... I see people focusing a lot on Levi, especially if he potentially has the murder secret. This is mostly my gut, but even if there's potential there, it's not my first guess, mostly because I just feel like there's less stakes and build up than if it were say Hu, especially after her getting pissed at David after seemingly confiding in him. 

I had a weird thought, and I honestly don't even really believe it... but what if Nico IS the killer, for whatever reason? My thing with Hu is that her breaking down seems like something that would have the most impact if she's the killer... but Nico could also hurt her. Like, I finally get why Hu has been so weird and coddling towards them: she feels the need to be that motherly figure for everyone, and Nico is someone she feels she can easily step in and protect because they seem shy and defenceless.

Basically, it would force her to realise Nico's agency, that even if they were being bullied and such, they're still as capable of darkness as anyone else here. But Nico would then have to die, and that would fuck her up. Like I said, I really am not subscribing to this, and I have also seen Hu does understandably make people uncomfortable with her coddling of Nico, with them being very Autistic coded and Hu reminding people of infantilisation we face.

Even if Nico proves their agency, them still dying might upset people because it's a neurodivergent coded character dying to serve another's development. Thing is, I love Nico too, but I also don't mind Danganronpa doing dark stuff, I mean people dying is kind of the whole thing. Also, with how many characters feel Autistic coded to me, it doesn't seem AS much of a loss, and while I don't want to speculate about the creator, the amount of ND coded characters makes me suspect they themselves could be ND, and that plus how well everyone has been handled gives me confidence that whatever happens will work as a story and not feel cheap.

The only other reason I'm entertaining this thought besides David calling out Hu and her coddling of Nico is... what if Ace turns out to be right? He just comes off as so hostile and unreasonable that realising he's telling the truth that Nico is the killer is unexpected. 

While I'm mainly focused on Hu as my prime suspect, I am also curious about Whit. Like seriously, defending David's motive was really weird to me (combined with derailing Teruko), it makes me wonder if he has involvement that we're yet to learn about.

I also bring up more suspects because when Charles said they fucked up, I see many people suggesting it could be the time of murder, and it would possibly change the suspects.

Oh also a thought: people have rightfully pointed out that Teruko and David serve as mirror or parallel characters to each other, with their cynical outlooks on people. I totally buy that they're being set up as foils, but I also want to consider... Ace could be yet another. Like, he's the OG example of being mistrusting and paranoid. I feel like he could also serve as a mirror to Teruko in some ways. And like David, he even now is relishing in pissing people off.

Okay... that's everything for now. Now here's hoping the Despair Time creator gets the break they deserve and can recover nicely, not just so we finally get resolution to this chapter, but for their sake too, because these stories are made by people first and foremost.

HELLO FELLOW SHERLOCK ENJOYER!!! Thank you so much for this ask, gushing about Sherlock Holmes is quite literally my favorite hobby right now. Especially especially Granada Holmes which is so???? It’s just such a breath of fresh air in compared to the common pop culture view on Sherlock and Watson. Everyone and their mom has said this but it’s so awesome to see a Sherlock who actually cares about people and a Watson who is allowed to be competent!!! On top of that, it’s just really, really fun to see people and places from the stories come to life in the very specific way of Granada Holmes. I’m still watching through the episodes (very slowly, it’s taking me a hot second!) but I am enjoying every minute of it.

You so right about how once you’re a Sherlock Holmes enjoyer, you’re ALWAYS a Sherlock Holmes enjoyer; you literally cannot shake the man. Every few years or so, I have a hardcore Sherlock Holmes relapse where like I fall completely down the rabbit hole again, and I’m currently in the middle of a relapse now (couldn’t be happier about it tbh!!!) also you saying he’s crawling around in my brain seriously makes me picture him in the same position as my banner (for posterity: Sherlock Holmes is on his stomach investigating something on the ground) which is very silly. Actually that’s one of my favorite Holmes illustrations!!!

Favorite Sherlock Holmes story is a tough one, partially because I haven’t finished all of them yet (working on it, though!) Right now, I’d have to say “Copper Beeches,” mostly because the solution to that one is both very satisfying (aka I came to the same conclusion and it was very rewarding to be right) but also because of the interesting way it frames women’s roles in that story. I don’t want to spoil it here, but it gets very gothic and Jane Eyre-y, plus the character of Violet Hunter is so great!!! I’m not a fan of the characterization of her as another Sherlock love interest (some people do that, which I completely respect!!!), I kind of saw the relationship as more protective than anything else, where she’s in this bad spot and Sherlock is very concerned for her in that way. She’s super capable and smart, both in accepting the job and then very very quickly realizing that something is up with her boss. Maybe the conclusion is a little quick? But it’s also very satisfying and everything turns out well! Also the final confrontation with the criminal at the end actually made me gasp, specifically in how he gets seriously injured. And we only forgive after they display a marked change in behavior. And we still never forget <3 (side note: remember when El dumped him and Mike ((and Lucas)) went full andrew tate for a second? There should have been inklings of monster throughout to add some intrigue and let us know that this was all going to have a point that tied into the plot of Stranger Things the 80s Monster Show. Ok, so. I noticed something while obsessively thinking back on BBC Merlin & the scattered memories I have from some of the episodes (Yes, I know I need to rewatch it & I’m gonna, but I have to prepare myself for pain first)…

Elena is called Princess Elena with full name because she’s the daughter of King Godwyn & Mithian is Princess Mithian for being the daughter of King Rodor. BUT Vivian, who’s also the daughter of a king, King Olaf, is never spoken to with the title of Princess, just Lady Vivian. Why tho? What makes her different from the other 2 girls????

I may have an explanation for this ig:

Morgana, when she’s still Uther’s ward and not known as his bastard daughter with legitimate claim to the throne (haha suck it Arthur), is ALSO called the Lady Morgana bc she is at least to outsiders not of Uther’s royal blood & therefore can’t use the title of a princess.

So maybe Vivian isn’t of royal blood either? Although, Olaf is so protective of her & calls her his daughter, so those 2 kinda have to be related or otherwise connected.

Here’s where my theory comes in:

Maybe Vivian really isn’t Olaf’s child by blood, but only his wife’s. As in Olaf’s wife had Vivian with another man & Olaf just said fuck it & started treating Vivian as his own anyways. Maybe bc Olaf is infertile & that was the only way they could think of to get a child.

OR she isn’t of noble blood AT ALL & from a normal peasant family & Olaf adopted her for whatever reason (dead parents, famine, disease etc. you name it), which would be really wholesome, BUT it would also paint Vivian as this hypocritical meanie bc of how she looks down on non-nobleborn servants like Gwen if she HERSELF were not nobleborn either. So I don’t really like that 2nd theory. I mean yeah, Lady Vivian is an (unreasonably) mean & classicist egomaniac, but I don’t think she’s that much of a hypocrite. That would just publicly hurt her ego too deeply, as it would surely be well known that Olaf adopted a „lowly born“ peasant girl. Like srsly, imagine! ALL the kings & noblemen would have held that fact over Olaf‘s head at EVERY royal banquet/outing/political gathering, so Vivian would have really had to stay in line & not say overly much on the topic. BUT SHE DIDN‘T. She was a bitch & talked openly & loudly about being soo much better than her subjects (poor Gwen rlly she deserved better)

So in conclusion:

I like my 1st theory, in which Olaf & Vivian aren’t related by blood & she is from his wife’s side of the family, better. Bonus, if it is due to Olaf’s infertility. That also makes Olaf‘s overprotective & caring nature towards Vivian all the more sweeter bc I would LOVE to see representation of non-traditional families/families with adopted children in media. Plus Olaf is a good father, ok? We SEE that in s2e10. He spoils his lil’ brat of a daughter bc to him she’s probably perfect despite all her flaws & she ONLY deserves the best & NO MAN will ever be good enough for her (fuck off Arthur, go & marry Gwen).
