Sing Mother’s Day Headcanons
Ash gets Rosita a Mother’s day gift, as does Johnny. Rosita cried the first time they did this.
Meena spends all day baking with her grandfather to surprise her mom and grandmother with their favourite desserts.
Buster views Mrs. Crawly as a surrogate mom and will spend the day with her to celebrate, typically gardening and talking.
Ryan and his sisters make giant cards for his moms and he will also spend one on one time with each of his moms doing their favourite activities.
Eddie celebrates Mother’s day with his grandmother instead of his bio mom. They have tea together and Nana will tell him stories from when she was younger.
Johnny and Marcus always make Johnny’s mum’s favourite meal for dinner and watch old home videos as a way to honor her memory.
Rosita and her family typically go to a museum or build something to celebrate Mother’s day together.
There is a special mother’s day performance during the Majestic run with additional performances by each teen cast member in honor of their moms (yes it is in the fic).

Based on a request: Can I make a request of toddler TF141, könig? Them waking up Daddy Price + Reader, holding blankie and plushie “ I have a nightmare” / “I puked”
Mum F!Reader, Toddler TF141+König, Dad Price
A few years ago, you and John, adopted your first child, Simon Riley. He had become the light of your life. Every other day he would ask you and Price for a baby sister or brother. So you gave in and adopted his much taller sibling, König. Those two boys ran around the house all day. At times at your farm, they would run around as John would chase them with water guns. He taught them everything they needed to learn at their age.
At night, they would wake you and him up.
Simon would nudge John's arm, "Daddy, I had a nightmare." his delicate voice waking you up too. König walked in behind him, his eyes watery. "Mummy.." in his hand his favourite plushie in hand as he walked to you. "It's okay..what happened, you ask, your hands gently cupping his face. He shook his head, "There was a monster..". John and you looked at each other, and without saying anything, you both nodded.
You pick König up and place him on your bed. John does the same with little Simon. Both boys lay between the two of you under the sheets. The four of you snuggle and eventually sleep.
One day by some luck, John found himself in the city. He and König were out getting groceries when two little boys ran to him. "Sir please help us," a little boy with a Scottish accent said as he held the hand of his foster brother Kyle. John soon found out that the foster parents of Johnny and Kyle were treating them..horribly. So after he came home to you with the two little boys. König called out for Simon as their new siblings were home.
''Simon! Come meet our new brothers!" The little boy ran as he held his brother's hand.
The four boys talked, ran, played, and giggled all day long. You and John sat on the porch. He held your hand as you two watched your little boys. Your dog chased and played with them. By night, it was hard to put them all to sleep. If Simon and König were in their room, Johnny would run into their room. But if Kyle and Johnny were in bed, König would take Kyle into the playroom and the two would laugh for minutes before you or John would send them back to bed.
By midnight all the boys were asleep, you and John lay in bed exhausted. "Good night honey," he kissed your forehead. "Good night handsome." you smiled and kissed his cheek.
An hour later, he was awoken by Johnny, his teddy in hand as he rubbed his eyes. "Nightmare, son?" The boy nods and soon he climbs into bed.
Kyle and Simon woke you up. "Mummy..." You open your arms and scoot over so the other boys can lay once more between you two.
30 minutes later into your sleep, König tugs your arm. You wake up, your eyes slowly opening. "What's wrong, kiddo?" you sit up on the bed. "I threw up," he answers. You stood up from the bed and took him into the bathroom. You cleaned his face and took him into the kitchen. You sat him on the counter. "Did you eat something before bed?" You hand him a warm glass of milk, and he shakes his head.
"All right then" "Mum?" "yes, kiddo?"
"Will we ever get more siblings?" "Who knows" you shrug and smile. He smiled a little, which had you confused until you felt two strong arms wrap around your waist. "he threw up." "I heard, he woke me up too." Soon light footsteps ran down the stairs, You and John turned around to see your other three little boys looking up to you both.
"Milk for us too?" Johnny asks with a kind soft smile.

(Family photo on my wedding day - my grandpa and grandma seated to my left)
A HERITAGE
When I was eight years old I had the grandest experience. However, I did not know what it was all about till I was forty.
I come from a traditional Hakka family (a Guest Family) - a Chinese dialect group, popularly known as the Gypsies of China, because Hakkas are a migratory race.
My maternal grandfather is a typical traditional Chinese. We love him. He love his children and grandchildren. Every weekend my mum would bring us to Grandpa’s farm, where there was an orchard of local fruits, a vegetable farm and a big fishpond, among other scenic surroundings. It was a peaceful place and we always looked forward to visit and stay at Grandpa’s house. He had another house with pepper and rubber plantation up in the country side. We visited only occasionally. It was too far for regular weekend visits. We went there only on school holidays.
There was a little hut just next to the main house where Grandpa and his family resided. It seemed like a meeting place, but only for the male adults - the elders (my grandpa’s siblings) and my three uncles. The only ladies who were permitted (or invited) to the hut were my mum (because she’s the eldest child) and, of course, my grandmother. I have four aunties in this Bong family with eight children.
When I was eight, I had a frightening surprise - frightening, because I had thought I was being summoned for a punishment. My youngest uncle came and called me, telling me to hurry up, and to go wash up (because I was all messy and dirty, playing in the fields). He said, “Grandpa wants you at the family hut!”
Surprise! Surprise!
I cannot remember his actual words, but I recall he asked me to stand next to him. He said something like I was of age, and being his eldest grandson, I was to start attending the family meeting with the adults.
I had thought this was a short ritualistic meal before the main dinner that was to follow. However, I was rather disappointed. For all I noticed was a round table with a metallic kettle on the boil, a smaller clay pot, a clay basin with a perforated cover, several big earthen jars, small porcelain trays and teacups, with a lot of other utensils, including a small wooden stick.
It was a traditional tea ceremony, where the family often gathered for discussions on family matters, ranging from personal complaints to proposals for solutions, including family business or investments.
The Traditional Tea Ceremony
When I was forty, I met a friend who is a devout follower of the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony. From him, I learned the elaborate stages and procedures in its preparation.
I was shown all the utensils used for this ceremonious event. Someone is in charge to keep the kettle boiling. All teacups, trays, and other utensils are place on the basin cover. The cleaning (sterilization) process then begins, the excess hot water dripping into and inside the basin through the perforations on the cover. Each guest or participant will then be given a small tray with a teacup on it. The tea preparation then begins.
Tea leaves are selected from special jars (depending on the occasion or on the preference), and put in the teapot followed by boiling water. The first two brews are for cleansing or purification of the tea leaves, and these are discarded into the basin. The third and subsequent brews are served, first from a small dispensing receptacle into the tasting cups, for tasting. When all are satisfied with the taste, the tea is then served from a smaller teapot into the drinking cups. New tea leaves are added to replace and to replenish, when the tea has lost its flavor.
There is a small wooden pick, like a little chopstick, for clearing any blockage at the nozzle of the teapot.
There are several rituals in the serving and drinking of the tea. Serving someone older is a sign of respect, serving someone younger is an expression of humility. There is usually a short reflection and sharing of past meetings and updates of events discussed previously, including pleasant memories of love and help from one another.
The Communal Meal
I remember how my Grandpa often referred to the family gathering at meal times, as a Communal Meal. It is to foster good family relationship through thanksgiving, by way of a continual communication, to speak, to listen and to carry out instructions or orders from the elders (in our case, my grandpa) to help one another, to offer solutions and/or support for the family, especially when there is a crisis and something troubling anyone. It is building a bond of goodwill through love, with forgiveness, and by deeds. Grandpa always remind us: “Settle every thing now, before we go for our communal meal, so we can stay united as one, in love and trust.”
Sweet Memories
When I was a young man, just after my marriage to my loving wife, we watched the movie, The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. At the opening scene, on the wedding day of the god father’s daughter, the family are about to take a family picture, and he notices his favorite son Michael is not present. He stops the photo session and wanted to wait for Michael to arrive.
I wept!
We always took family photos before the Communal Meal. I was often out some where playing in the woods. There was a day, my uncle came looking for me and he was furious. “Go! Get wash up. We are all waiting for you.”
Grandpa refused to take the photo without me.
It was this movie that triggered my research on the Chinese Tea Ceremony. Years later, I wrote and published it in my book, Curse of the Green Dragon - A Hakka Story.

LGBT Representation in Jamie Johnson as Compared to Other Kids’ Media
Pinned to the top of my blog because I’m quite proud of this post, and I still want newer followers to be able to see it.
From what I know, LGBT representation is relatively new in media. Not just kids’ media, but media in general. I don’t even think I knew what gay meant until I was like 11. And I didn’t know that religions didn’t exactly have the greatest opinion of gay people till my GCSEs. In that sense, I was lucky. I knew I was gay before I knew what homophobia was, so I have always been comfortable with who I am. But others didn’t have life that... Well, simple I suppose. I’ve always known who I am, but other people, well, in the worst case scenario, gay people can become homophobic themselves and grow to hate themselves. This might seem like a sidetracky introduction, but I think it shows the importance of LGBT in media. For someone like me, it can help to start to normalise gay people to my family. Even though they’re still homophobic, at least they’re able to watch programmes with LGBT characters in. I met someone who’s dad wouldn’t watch any shows with LGBT characters in it. And for how rare gay people used to be in media in general, they’re even rarer in kids’ media. Why is it that Disney Channel only had their first gay main character in 2017 when homosexuality was legalised in... 2003 in the US. Wow, I can’t lie, I looked up that statistic expecting it to be way earlier. OK, but it was legalised in 1967 in the UK. So why did I never see any gay characters in my childhood? I’ve known I was gay since I was 9, but I must have first seen a gay character in, OK, it was Doctor Who. Captain Jack was pansexual. So I did have some LGBT representation. But there wasn’t much. And again, not in kids’ media. So, let’s look at some of the kids’ media that changed the landscape for LGBT rep in kids’ media. Sarah Jane Adventures and Wizards vs Aliens We’ll start with what I think is probably the worst types of LGBT representation. First of all: Wizards vs Aliens. Benny came out. But I can’t remember the show ever talking about it again after he came out. Sarah Jane Adventures. Yes, it’s not Russell T Davies’ fault that he never got the chance to let Luke come out in the show, and yes, he got to have Luke come out in the memorial episode for Sarah Jane on YouTube, but even before Liz had... Luke had left the main cast, so his coming out would have still meant less to audience members. Gravity Falls had a coming out at the very end of the show, and I believe so did Adventure Time, so they fit in this category too. Compare that to Dillon from Jamie Johnson. Yes, there’s a reasonable chance we won’t see him again after this season, but if it is, he gets to leave on a high. We get to explore his coming out journey. Steven Universe Steven Universe is great for LGBT representation, and it’s great for normalising LGBT representation. You’ve got a huge variety of LGBT characters, because the Gems are all gay (Except Rose). So you can understand that there are different types of gay people (Love Victor did that too, but I’m not sure how many people would watch it). Steven universe is definitely the gayest kids’ show. High School Musical the Musical the Series fits in this category too. Carlos is out and proud. And we don’t see his coming out, more his love life. Again, great rep. Normalises gay people. Jamie Johnson is nowhere near the level of gay that Steven Universe or High School Musical the Musical the Series is, but I think that it’s less meaningful than other shows I’ll mention and Jamie Johnson. It’s the same reason Victor said “Screw you” to Simon at the beginning of Love Victor. We don’t want to see gay people who have it easy. We want to see gay people who are like us. Who have been through stuff and have come out the other side alive. We want hope, but that doesn’t come from seeing gay people who have it easy. I see people playing football and risking corona and I’m jealous. I want to play football again. I see gay people have it easy: Same. I wish I could have it that easy, and it makes me sad. Steven Universe is a great show, and has great rep, but I think even kids’ media should have something closer to home. Andi Mack and Diary of a Future President I love how they portrayed Cyrus and Bobby. We got to see Cyrus’ story from realising he liked guys to being able to say “I’m gay” to showing his crush he likes him (though homophobes can pretend the bench scene was just a friendship scene). Cyrus’ arc was great, and the bench scene was perfect and the only problem with it was that it deserved a fourth season so we could see Cyrus and TJ in a relationship. Diary of a Future President though. I was heartbroken when Bobby didn’t come out to Liam. But then I found out there was a season 2 and I was OK, because it’s hard to come out. It’s as if all the shows make it so easy to come out to the first person, but it’s not. The first real life person I came out to, I came out at 22. And they had come out to me first. And I had to write it down on my phone. I couldn’t say it out loud. So yeah, seeing Diary of a Future President take it slow is amazing, and I love it, and it’s also what they did with Dillon. Some people think that they only really intended for Dillon to be gay from season 4. But, I think that they’ve known since the beginning. I plan to do a character analysis on Dillon after my rewatch, but I think I found something that shows they must have known since at least season 2. (I expect the analysis will be a lot shorter than this. Sorry for the crazy length. And if it’s a crap read. I don’t essay well). But if they knew from the beginning, that was a brilliant move on their part. The only thing that makes me unsure is how Dillon took 3 years to realise he might be gay, but it’s possible that he denied it to himself until he realised Elliot was gay. Because there’s no way he wasn’t thinking he was gay in season 4 episode 5. He didn’t think he was asexual, his reaction to Ruby’s foster mums suggested that he was interested because they were gay. But regardless, I love that they took it slow. Not everyone can come out as easily as others, and having someone like Bobby, or like Dillon, is so much more meaningful than Cyrus, even though Cyrus is an amazing character. Bobby and Dillon are more relatable because they’re finding it tough to come out. The Dumping Ground I kept trying to decide whether I thought the dumping ground or Andi Mack/Diary of a Future President had better LGBT representation. In the end, I decided that I preferred the Dumping Ground’s representation. Yes, in Andi Mack and Diary of a Future President, we get to see the coming out journey of Bobby and Cyrus, but even though Andi Mack touched on homophobia, a lot of people didn’t even realise Kira was blackmailing TJ, making him afraid of how people would react if they found out he was gay. A number of people just thought TJ was being an idiot. But the Dumping Ground had a gay couple wanting to foster Gus. And IIRC, Johnny thought it was wrong because they were gay. Something like that would foster (see what I did there?) potential discussion between parents and children about gay adoption. Some kids watching the show might have been gay and if they watched it with their parents, they could talk about it with them. Gage their reaction. Maybe even come out to them. The Dumping Ground’s episode was great. And then May-Li came out. And we never got to see her full journey, But we did get to see her journey to being accepted by her grandmother I think. And that’s something. And Now On To Jamie Johnson Just like the Dumping Ground, Jamie Johnson has been able to tackle serious issues. I mean, season 1 dealt with Jamie’s cheating father. You’ve got Zoe being a carer, Dillon getting diabetes. But in terms of LGBT representation, it’s season 4 and season 5. Season 4 episode 5 was incredible. I remember telling all my friends about it, and how amazing it was that CBBC were doing this. To recap: Ruby said her heroes were her foster parents, causing Dillon to ask Ruby about it. She thought he was being an idiot, even though in actual fact, he was excited that someone else was gay and trying not to show it. Dillon told his dad that Ruby had foster mums while he was telling him how Ruby’s biological parents weren’t in her life anymore. Liam, Dillon’s brother, used it to rile up Ruby’s sister Alba until she attacked him. She probably would have gotten expelled from the club, but Sienna filmed the incident so everyone found out what really happened, and it was Liam who got expelled. I think Alba only got excluded. What I find really awesome about the storyline though is not just that they had it. It was that the consequences of Liam’s actions set the course for the rest of the season, aka Dodgy Duncan. Liam’s actions caused the club’s image to go down the drain, and sponsors to leave, and that’s what made Duncan turn to the dark side. And it’s a subtle way to just say “Homophobia is bad”. Because Liam’s homophobia caused all the problems in the rest of the season. The First Time Dillon Let Himself “be Gay” Dillon took a long time to come out. And, like me, I think for a long time, nobody really suspected he was gay, in real life or in the audience. He never really showed it. I’m pretty sure when I was a kid, I would act super offended and upset if someone jokingly called me gay. So, yeah, it’s a slow burn. And we didn’t get any hints that he was gay, but that happens. Gay people are good at hiding, I think that’s why gay kids are often portrayed as loving theater. They already have to act their whole lives. It’s not easy to be in the closet. But I think that once Dillon was able to leave his father’s shadow, he was able to be more comfortable with himself, leading to him coming out to Elliot in episode 7. I think he had crushes before, specifically Michelle from season 2, but Elliot was the first time he felt like he could be himself. So here we have two massive points from other shows, but they haven’t been done together. The discussion of homophobia in the Dumping Ground, and the Slow Burn from Diary of a Future President. Social Media Presence Andi Mack made a huge deal about Cyrus being gay, like a week before the episode where he came out aired. HSMTMTS had Carlos be a gay stereotype from the trailer, and OK, Steven Universe was always gay. But Jamie Johnson, and the Dumping Ground didn’t make a big deal about it beforehand. They didn’t scream to the world “Look at us! We’re woke!” They showed it. They let people see for themselves, they let people debate for two weeks on Dillon’s sexuality, and they didn’t tell everyone that this was the episode Dillon would come out (though they made sure that everyone knew they should watch this episode). They just let people see for themselves. And after the episode aired, they made their move. They had the Jamie Johnson logo in rainbow colours to celebrate pride, they had a guide on how to react if someone comes out to you, and they had a history of pride, and I expect they’ll do even more on their social media after this week’s episode. @tkstrand reckons the Delliot post is Jamie Johnson’s most liked instagram post. I don’t know whether the other shows did this, but it’s a great gesture regardless. Oh, and there’s the fact that they’re doing a Bafta zoom conference on how they tackle issues. Choosing the Right Character and Breaking Ground for CBBC A lot of people on Instagram said that they thought it was Boggy who should be gay, and while I think either storyline would be great, I think that the writers made the right decision. 1) Boggy is an amazing person. He’s not afraid to be himself. I think, if Boggy was gay, then he wouldn’t have as much trouble coming out as Dillon is having. Of course, Boggy is going through stuff right now, but I still think he would have been a lot braver than Dillon and so we wouldn’t get the storyline we’re getting now delving into homophobia 2) If Dillon does have a minor or major role in season 6, we might get to explore homophobia in professional football, which would be super exciting 3) While Boggy is an amazing character, I’d reckon kids tend to gravitate to the coolest character as their favourite. And while Boggy radiates cool. (Seriously, check out the two posts I made on how sarcastic he is. And just look at his hat at the beginning of episode 1!
Tumblr media
But Dillon is the more traditionally cool character, so he’s more likely to be a fan favourite (that and the fact that he’s the best developed character in Jamie Johnson). So for those who aren’t necessarily homophobic, but don’t really understand homosexuality, Dillon is the perfect choice to have written as gay. Because after next week, the people who don’t believe Dillon is gay might leave the episode with a new understanding of LGBT people. It’s been done with TJ, who’s also a cool character, but people who want to ignore the gay subtext can because it was never said out loud in the show. And I reckon Dillon is a groundbreaking character for CBBC. Benny left soon after he came out, Luke left before he came out, May-Li is part of an ensemble cast, so in terms of a small number of main characters (the core 4 in JJ being Dillon, Jamie, Zoe and Boggy), so I think Dillon is the first gay main character (not ensemble character) on CBBC who has gotten a major gay storyline. Could be wrong, let me know if I am! Groundbreaking in General From what it looks like, the next episode is gonna focus completely on Dillon’s coming out storyline. Forget kids’ media, I don’t think I’ve seen an adults’ show that has an entire episode solely dedicated to an LGBT storyline. (Even Reunited from Steven Universe wasn’t completely focused on Garnet). Love Victor was jam packed with side stories and I think even Real O’Neals always had side stories to it. If another show has done this, I’d love to hear, but if Jamie Johnson really has the whole episode dedicated solely to Dillon, I think it’s huge. I only hope it doesn’t mean that the storyline will be forgotten about in the last 4 episodes, but since the head writer of Jamie Johnson is LGBT, I have no doubt they’ll do it justice. Does Jamie Johnson Have the Best LGBT Representation in Kids’ Media? No, I don’t think it does. Andi Mack has 2 seasons where we follow Cyrus on his coming out journey and Steven Universe has a lot more LGBT people, including a non-binary character. But in the aspects Jamie Johnson does well, it excels at. The homophobia storyline(s), and Jamie Johnson’s instagram presence. And having the best developed and best defined character be the one to show kids how to treat gay people. Thursday could be a historic moment for Kids’ television if they do this right, and I think they will. So I hope that everyone enjoys the episode! No, I swear this wasn’t a long promo for the next episode. No, I am not sponsored. Yes, this post was extremely long, I’m really sorry about that. I hope it’s worth the read. If not, don’t worry, this will almost definitely be my longest post. No, I don’t know how to have a “continue reading” button. Does anyone happen to know how? Thanks! Edit: Apparently 4 O Clock club had a gay main character first, so I got that wrong, but I still hold that Jamie Johnson is groundbreaking.

Congratulations!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also - 🖊 for.. you know.. Kit 😍
Thanks :) small warning, it’s not 500 words, it’s 1112 words. Enjoy ;)
---------------
Kit doesn’t think about him as much he used to, as much as he probably should. Though if he was being honest with himself, that wasn’t true; he thought about him too much, not being to go fifteen minutes without him popping into his mind. Johnny Rook was a terrible person and an even worse father, why should he feel bad for him? He can’t imagine his loving father would do the same for him. Besides, since his death Kit got a whole new life in a whole new country, one where he doesn’t have to hide he exists and he’s surrounded by ones he loves, and most importantly, those who love him back.
Even though he tried to convince himself not to, Kit found himself leaving his bedroom at 6 AM, finding his way into the dining room. His initial intention was to just talk to himself, air these thoughts they killed him too, but a disturbance sat at the table in the form of newfound father James Carstairs.
“why are you up so early?” the former silent brother asked, a kind smile on his lips.
“just couldn’t stop thinking” Kit admits. He wasn’t one for being emotionally open, but there’s something about Jem’s face that you just couldn’t lie too. Kit also felt he owed him honesty since he did give a family.
“I’ve found that discussing problems often helps lay them to rest” Jem looked at him, not at all pushing just trying to convey that he was there if he needed him.
“Is Mina still asleep?” Kit asked instead, resolving to tell him just not right now. The one time he ripped off the band aid and just told the truth, he was surrounded by flames and in the middle of an illegal ritual.
“yeah” the elder smiles “second night in a row she’s slept all the way through the night. Tessa’s just making a bottle for when she wakes up”. The way Jem talked about her, which such love and fondness, felt like one thousand tiny cuts in Kit’s side. His father had never spoken about him that way, like he was his guiding light in the dark.
“he never had a funeral” Kit concedes “He may have been a bad person, a bad father and just scummy... but he was my father. Even Valentine got a funeral”
Kit had been reading up on Shadowhunter history since moving to Devon. He’d realised that he never really gotten to learn about it due to the war and Ty...
Jem stared at the chair opposite him, deep in thought “we could hold an impromptu funeral?” Jem offers “just rather than burying him you bury something that reminds you of him, like a shirt or something”
“that... sounds helpful actually...” Kit’s eyes were locked on the tablecloth “Would you mind joining me though? It'd feel stupid if I did it on my own”
“Of course I’ll join you. What kind of a foster parent would I be if I didn’t?” Jem says gently “Shall we meet at the bottom of the garden in half an hour?”
Kit couldn’t believe that things were awake at quarter to seven in the morning, he almost felt like he walked in on a private moment between the birds and the trees. He kept walking anyway. Jem’s home in Devon was not a small one, and the garden was bigger still. Kit probably should’ve had the forethought to change from his Iron Man pyjamas, especially since it was mid-autumn, but it was too late to change now. He was pretty sure Jem had seen him anyway.
When Kit reached the bottom of the garden he found a small hole dug ready for him, and two lolly sticks stuck in a cross formation with the name ‘Johnny Rook’ written on it. When Jem noticed Kit looking his expression turned a little bashful “I do intend to buy a proper burial marker, I just thought this would suffice in the meantime”
“it’s perfect, thank you Jem” Kit was sincere as his hand fishes inside his pocket to find his memento before he knelt and placed the rectangular piece of card inside. It was the joker from a pack of cards Johnny had bought him from the Shadow market. It had been both the first market that he had been to, and the first ever thing his father bought him.
Once Jem had patted the soil back over the card Kit began to speak, completely unfiltered “I miss you... It’s a stupid and probably redundant thing to say, but I do. When you were alive, I spent all of our time wishing that we weren’t together, that I could get away from you for even an hour cause even though you never payed attention to me, we were always near each other you never paid attention to me”
The tears that had been threatening to spill for months finally fell over his cheeks like a waterfall “but if I could go back, I’d cherish every moment I had with you, because even though you were a pretty shit dad, you were still mine. We did have good times too; I’ll never forget you taking me to Disney world when I was eight. Sure, you didn’t pay to get us in, but the sneaking was part of the fun you know? I felt like an undercover agent on a secret mission...”
He accepts the tissue Jem was offering him and dried his cheeks “I hope you’re happy... wherever you are. Life screwed you over, so you deserve a good after life... say hi to mum for me?” He’d finished speaking, but he couldn’t move, his sobs were too heavy and once he’d sat down it was all over for him.
Rather than getting him to move, Jem sat down next to him and rested his hand on Kit’s shoulder “I lost my parents to demons too” he slowly moved his arm around him until he was in a one-armed hug.
“Does it ever stop hurting?” Kit asked, looking up to him with hope in his eyes, though they were mostly wet.
“no...” Jem says reluctantly “but it hurts less and less each day until it’s only a dull pain” he kisses his hair gently, trying to provide him comfort.
It wouldn’t stop hurting, Kit thought privately, he hadn’t thought it thought it would. Maybe that doesn’t matter though. Bundled up in Jem’s arm he couldn’t help but feel like he’d finally gotten the dad he’d always wanted, a mum he’d never remembered and a baby sister to help raise. It wouldn’t stop hurting, but maybe it doesn’t have to.

What is about Harry Potter? Or is the problem just JK?
The two are kind of mutually exclusive to one another. My personal issues with the books stem mostly from the way that JK Rowling has executed them, and from Rowling herself. JK Rowling has become increasingly someone I'm ashamed to have idolised. She's seeking brownie points for representation that she never actually gave (Confirming Dumbledore is gay but never giving him that, confirming that there was "at least one Jewish student at Hogwarts") and neglecting the huge amount of other cultures in the UK that would have—and should have—been at Hogwarts as well. Beyond the connection with Rowling and the HP books, there's also the fact that she continues to work with Johnny Depp and a lot of what we looked up to as her great sass is actually plain arrogance. This isn't to say that Rowling is a wholly awful person, or that this is the sum total of problems with her, but she just isn't the great Writing Goddess fans once saw her as. With the books themselves, it's more complex. The whole third book is a bit of an anomaly thanks to the time-travel, but I'm not that bothered by it (I know a lot of fans are); rather, my problems lie with the whole "Harry was abused and neglected but comes away fine and the Dursleys are never called out on it". Harry had to threaten the Dursleys with his godfather to get them to treat him with even a little common decency. I looked at Vernon's behaviour, looked at my own father, and thought "well it's normal in this book and Harry is fine, so stuff for me at home must be fine, too,". One could even go so far as saying that the Dursleys determination to keep Harry from the magical world could be an allegory for Autism Mums or Hearing parents of Deaf children keeping their children from the communities that they have a right to—or White foster parents not respecting the cultural wishes of their children who aren't White as well. These are all very real issues, and they were exploited for the sake of, what? Giving Harry a pity card to make readers feel Emotion for him? I absolutely adore the world of Harry Potter, and what the fans have made of it, but for me the books and films are just too close to the author of the source material. Everything has been skewed by the mistakes Rowling made, or the blatant ignorance that she made no effort to correct when writing. She got away with it because the books were for children, but we now live in an age where people can realise that "Oh, actually, that doesn't mean anything," and now the realisation has spread, it's too late for Rowling to change anything. There's a lot more I can say—hypocrisy in the fundamental values of the book, flaws in the Housing systems, Snape (but I'm not going there) and Dumbledore himself, plus the naming of Harry's child after Dumbledore and the 2D characters... No work is flawless and no person is either. There is also no denying that Rowling did an amazing thing, raising her daughter on benefits in a tiny flat as she wrote the books in a coffee shop because her home was too cold, but the feat behind the books doesn't negate what they became. Now fans are in this difficult place of loving what they have done with the world she created (just look at how headcanons have been accepted as canon more than canon itself) but disliking the creator and the ways in which those negative aspects have bled into the books. However, it is not the fans job to seperate the two, and so issues become apparent within the books themselves. This is only emphasized by The Casual Vacancy, another of Rowling's works, which does address some serious issues in a very sensitive way. She did it then, so why not in her seven book success? Why not teach children some solutions to issues she is clearly capable of addressing? Therefore, it can be surmised that although the issues stem from the author, the author and the issues in her works are also inherently linked. As a consequence, I can no longer enjoy that part of my childhood as I once did, and the pain of seeing other fans going through the same process is incredibly bitter-sweet.

The Cringe Wave Tag
Thank you @create-and-procrastinate for the tag, and for coming up with this new game, it’s honestly brilliant!
Rules:
1. Post a quote or short excerpt from your early days of writing. (I’m talking old fanfics, slash fics, original fics, etc., that are barely edited and have a ton of technical errors and misspelled words.) This is the cringe part. Don’t edit anything! Let it be horrendous. Don’t Panic.
2. Post a quote or short excerpt from one of your most recent works/WIPs. Something that you’re proud of. Something that you’ve written that makes you smile when you read it.
3. Tag a writer you admire, anyone who you think is amazing, new friends, followers, writeblrs, anyone who you’d like to know more about. If you think someone is a great writer and you want to see how they’ve developed their skills, tag them! Everyone started somewhere. [Poets, feel free to interact too!]
So, I’m cheating slightly with this game, because I only started writing in English about five/six years ago. All my really early works were in Italian (some of those early fanfictions are still posted somewhere, oh gosh, I like to ignore this fact haha), so here are two extracts from when I first started writing in English.
1.1 From the Prologue of a project titled The Lantern, written in 2013/2014.
After the crossroad, at the very end of the little cul-de-sac that was Meadow End, to the left of the footpath for the park, the Witch’s house stood proud against its hill.
The green shutters were wide open, the windows closed, the teal curtain drawn, and Jeremiah 'call-me-Jerry’ Stone stood, all sweaty palms holding onto a baggy t-shirt, muddy knees and crooked glasses, in front of all of this.
1.2 And this is The Lantern’s first chapter, also written in 2013.
Connor hadn't set the headmaster’s car on fire, no matter what Mrs. Welsh thought she had seen.
He was very familiar with the accusation because he had indeed been guilty of having set a few of his possessions on fire, in the recent past, and also a few items that weren’t exactly his to begin with. Most of those had been accidents. Johnny Jenkins’ coat during a chemistry class in eight grade, for example, had been the result of Connor’s obsession with lighters. One of Foster Mum For Two Months’ towels when he was trying to cook with their gas stove had been a miscalculation. Mr. Warlord’s wig… well, that one had been on purpose.
2. Excerpt from To Love a Wild Thing, a short story I wrote over the Christmas break (2017).
He is sitting on the edge of the island’s highest cliff with a notebook open on his lap. His left cheek rests against his palm, and there is a grey smudge right next to his lobe, where his fingers, darkened with chalk, have been caressing a patch of itchy skin. He flickers through the pages with his other hand – too large, in such clear disproportion with the rest of his teenage body. He is fourteen and his hands are those of a man, somehow mounted on the skinny wrists of a tall child.
Forcing his thoughts away from the parts of his body he dislikes, he keeps his eyes on the sun low on the horizon and bites his tongue at the scene in front of him. His mind – all pencils and oils, shading work over thin lines – is silently shouting in frustration at a beauty he can experience but not replicate.
So, yeah, definitely cringe worthy, especially Chapter One, weirdly the Prologue was not as cringey as I had expected it to be. I’ve definitely improved, and I hope to keep improving even more every day. Though this has made me realise I’m still just as crappy at titles as I used to be... when will I learn How To Title Things?
Tagging only @acfawkes because I’m lazy (though feel free to ignore it!) and anyone else who happens to read this post and decides it would be cool to do this. Tag me in your post so I can see it :)

Hamilton Foster House au  Chapter 1
Characters: George Washington, Martha Washington, Original Character, John Laurens, the rest appear in chapter two.
Word Count: 1,493
Trigger warnings: None that I can think of apart from negative thoughts and crying, please tell me if you find anything.
Honestly, she was terrified. As she sat in the back of the car she went through every possible scenario in her head where they would hate her and send her back. They’re going to hate you hate you horrible no good fat ugly hate you hate you. She covered her ears with her hands to try and block out the voices that told her ‘you’re not good enough for them Ottie’. The driver looked back but said nothing, ‘he must be used to crazy kids like me’, she thought. Her social worker took one of her hands and held it in hers.
“Calm down Ottilie, they are going to love you, and I'm sure you are going to love them as well.”
Ottilie might have believed her if this wasn’t her fifth time being adopted. There was a new complaint every time. Too quiet, won’t listen to me, never comes out of her room, too high maintenance. It was as if people didn’t understand that she was likely to have problems after what she went through. ‘It’s not as if sending me back didn’t leave me more messed up’ she sneered in her head.
The car pulled into a huge circular driveway, all around her were sweeping grass fields, and straight ahead was a giant white mansion. The family stood on the steps, waving at the car as it parked alongside them. “That’s Martha and her husband George.” said her social worker, “They’re lovely people, they already have many adopted kids, I suppose they didn’t want to overwhelm you” she explained at the lack of teenagers on the step with them. Ottilie looked out of her window, they looked friendly enough, but she’d been fooled before.
“Ok,” she said simply.
By the time she had got out of the car her social worker was already chatting up a storm with her new guardians. Ottilie opted to get her bag from the boot, it was a small suitcase with a plush bunny on top, she plucked him off and held him close. Tentatively she walked towards where her social worker was stood, Martha spotted her and walked towards her,
“Hello sweetheart, I’m Martha, you must be Ottilie.” She held her hand out for Ottilie to shake, Ottilie thanked God she hadn’t asked for a hug.
“Yeah,” She said quietly.
“Please let me take your bag honey and we’ll put it in the kitchen for now. We’ve been so excited to have you here. Are you nervous?” They walked together towards the kitchen in question.
“Yeah” Ottilie replied again. “Well don’t worry sugar, we’ve been through this many times before, try not to be overwhelmed by my talking so much, don’t feel any pressure to reply if you don’t want to. Just take everything at you’re own pace.” Martha’s kindness radiated off of her like sunbeams. Ottilie stepped back slightly.
“Thank you” She said and walked back to where her social worker had trapped George in a riveting conversation about the geraniums that were hanging on either side of the door.
“Really you should water them twice a day, with feed in the morning and just water in the evening, especially in this heat. I would suggest getting some lamps as well, that would really boost their productivity. I am so glad that this is a warm friendly environment for Ottilie, she loves flowers, which is great because so do I! I once told her -”
“That’s really lovely miss,” George said as politely as possible “But i’m afraid I have to go to work soon and I would really love to meet this Ottilie before I leave”
“Oh, well of course, goodbye Ottilie, have a lovely time. If you need anything don’t hesitate to call, I haven’t abandoned you” She said, backing away.
“Goodbye,” Ottilie waved.
Once the car had vanished, Ottilie was left sitting on the front step.
“Are you going to come in then honey?” George asked her.
“I suppose”
“I’m George, you don’t have to call me dad if you don’t want to, some of the other kids do, but George is fine as well if you want.” He said kindly.
“George is fine” Ottilie replied.
“Great! We have food cooking if you would like some, I can show you to your room if you would like?”
“Great” she repeated, lifelessly.
“Cool, let's go in then”
The staircase was huge, that was the first thing Ottilie noticed. Everything in the house seemed to be super-sized. When she stepped into the room allocated for her it was even bigger than she could have imagined. The king sized bed was the center of her focus,
“Woah” She gasped. George laughed,
“Do you like it?”
“Yeah”
“Great, I hope you will be comfortable here Ottilie, we hope that eventually, you can become truly a part of the family.” He said, looking down on Ottilie with kind eyes. She shuffled awkwardly under his gaze before plucking up the courage to answer,
“Ottie”
“Pardon?”
“You can call me Ottie if you want. It’s the nickname my mum gave me when I was little.” She almost whispered. George put his hand on her shoulder and smiled warmly,
“Of course Ottie, now, I have to leave for work, Martha will come up and help you unpack, the boys will be home soon, I have told them not to touch you or shout at you until you are comfortable but I am afraid they often do not listen.”
“That’s ok,” Ottie said and turned slightly so he could hug her. His embrace was warm and comforting. Ottie felt sick. She pulled away.
“Goodbye”
“Goodbye Ottie”
When she was alone she sat down on the end of the huge bed. A small sob escaped her tight throat. This family was nice, too nice. Before she knew it she was going to get attached and then sent away again, she even gave them her nickname. That was for her mother only to use, not some fake family that would abandon her the moment they saw someone else, someone better. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks and her head throbbed with pain. A quiet knock at her door drew her out of this daze.
“Ottilie?” A male voice said, it wasn’t George, she frantically rubbed at her eyes.
“Yes?” She whispered back.
“Hi honey, I’m John, your new brother?”
“Oh, ok”
“Can I come in?”
“If you want.” She answered. She rubbed at her eyes a final time as the door slowly opened. A pretty curly haired boy poked his head around the corner, his tanned face full of freckles. He smiled warmly before his expression morphed into that of worry.
“You’ve been crying! What’s wrong sunshine?” He asked, coming fully into the room. She smiled at the pet name.
“Nothing really. It's all a bit overwhelming”
“Yeah, I felt like that when I first came. I came last year. It’s been a struggle trying to adjust but trust me they’re wonderful people.”
“Great”
“You don’t talk much do you?” Her face fell. She knew what happened now. He didn’t like her, she was being rude, she’d be completely alone here with no friends and then they would see it wasn’t working and send her home. Fresh tears pricked at her eyes and rolled down her cheeks, she tried to turn away but he had her in a firm grip.
“Oh, no sugar don’t cry. Oh God, i’m so sorry, it’s only your first day and I've already fucked it up. Come on hon’ I've got you” He cradled her in his arms. Ottilie sobbed quietly into his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. You can send me back if you want”
“What! No. Of course we want you here!” He almost shouted, holding her tighter when she flinched. Ottilie just cried harder. She heard footsteps on the stairs that arrived at her door.
“That’s enough Johnny, I know you’re doing what you think is right but she needs a little space right now, go find your brothers will you, they should be home now.” Martha said, ushering John out of the room, she walked towards Ottie,
“Shh shhh darling, shh,” She said, cradling her softly in her arms, “Good girl, nice deep breaths for me, there we go” Ottilie calmed down slowly and rested her head in Martha’s lap.
“I want to be happy here” She whispered,
“You will be, I promise, it just might take a bit of time”
“I love John, he’s so nice, I think I've scared him away”
“No of course not honey, I scared him away, he’s easily worried but not one to act without a solid reason, he would never hate you” She hugged Ottie close one last time and then let her go and walked towards the door,
“Martha?”
“Yes, sweetie?”
“What’s for dinner?” Martha chuckled, “Chicken, don’t worry dear,” she added before she left, “You’re going to fit in just fine here.”
Thank you for reading! Please give me feedback on how I can improve and what you want to happen next. This is my first fanfiction on here and I have some plans on where I want it to go but really it’s just me getting the writing bug out. Hope you enjoy!

More Spider-Man AU Stuff
Johnny became Spider-Man or Skate-Spider on a school field trip when he was young, but went for a long while without taking up the title. He only did eventually because he realised he could help people in a way he couldn't before and save them like he couldn't save his mum. She died while he was young due to an illness but he still blamed himself and saw being Spider-Man as a coping mechanism at first.
The singing competition was essentially the same but without the gang plotline and the characters being much younger. They all became friends afterwards like the do out of AU but have spent 3-ish years together at this point. Buster also adopted Ash then as well.
Jimmy runs a newspaper as well as a ton of other entertainment things and they do all hate Spider-Man.
Instead of Spider-Man losing a police captain or his uncle, he has to be the one to sever his ties with his uncles and dad. In this AU he never knew about the gang and caught them in a robbery. Johnny tried to talk them out of it, even revealing his identity, but couldn't and in the end arrested them. Aka a much more angsty disownment arc.
Nooshy was adopted by Marcus around two years before the start of this AU when he found them camping out behind the garage. She lives in her own apartment now but acts as Johnny's “person in the chair” after helping him come up with the Skate-Spider persona in the first place.
Rosita is still Johnny's foster mum and finds out he's Spider-Man when he returns from patrol too hurt to hide said fact. She immediately started covering for him and helping him improve his gadgets as a way to make sure he's safe.
Several newspapers are running rewards for who can tell them who Spider-Man is and the troupe are all competing together. Johnny is actually pretty scared they might find out who he is because they've gotten close before.
In the timeline, the singing competition in Sing 1 is replaced by just a regular show as it focuses more of Johnny being Skate-Spider and his relationships. The Redshore trip does still happen according to the timeline with the same plot points however, just with Spider-Man stuff thrown in.
Johnny has a different skateboard that he carries on patrol so his dad doesn't recognize it and he takes all the pins of his jacket before patrol as well (also his jacket has pins in this AU). When not skating on patrol, the skateboard is hung around his shoulders with a strand of webbing.
Ryan is actually introduced a bit before the Redshore trip as an English student who Johnny saves as Spider-Man. During the Redshore trip however, it's revealed that Ryan, as well as being a dancer, is in school an is doing a paper on modern heroism and wants to talk with Skate-Spider about what that's like as a hero vs as a civilian. Johnny is constantly scared he's going to figure his identity out.
Clay figures out Spider-Man’s identity after like 12 seconds but keep his identity a secret. He says this is due to him having a stage persona when he was younger so he recognized the two's similarities (Johnny and Skate-Spider).
Ryan does figure out Johnny's identity after a while and drops it in while they are hanging out after practice, promising to keep it a secret.
The troupe as a whole finds out Skate-Spider's identity during the big show down with the big bad and promptly freak out that their friend is likely hurt.
The disownment reconciliation scene wouldn't be at a theatre performance in this. It happens during a fight with a villain when part of the jail is destroyed, causing Johnny to panic about his family's safety. He runs into his dad and the two talk it out then.
Calatonia will be New Calatonia instead but Redshore stays the same.
Quote:
“No, you raised me to do the right thing. Why can’t you see that’s what I’m doing?”
“And you're willing to do that even if it means turning your back on your family? By betraying us?”
“If that’s what it takes, then yes.”
“Johnathan, don’t you dare-“
“I'm sorry dad.”
