Skimblegus Family Time--Tumble takes after Asparagus more and more the older he gets, but Teazer takes after Skimble a lot more than people give her credit for. They're both these very bright, clever, and relentlessly cheerful cats who try to put a brave face on things and hide when they're not at their best. But when they crash, they crash hard; it became a bittersweet source of reconnection after she was free of Macavity, especially since Teazer didn't realize her dad ever had bad days. She can basically only stand to be around her dads, Tumble, and Mungojerrie on particularly awful days, and Skimble's learned more from Asparagus about how not to just pack those emotions away to worry about later. Plus, you know she's feeling better when she and Tumble can start picking at each other again.

I love it so much, and I love this little family <3

I find the read that Luo Binghe is Airplane's self insert so weird because it ignores that that's not how self inserts work usually. Like a writer giving a character attributes similar to themselves is normal and inevitable. You can only draw from so many places and the easiest emotions and traits to write in are ones you are intimately familiar with. Like you can tell if a writer knows personally on a subject based off how they express and write details. Like I as a writer can't make characters tell jokes that are stylistically different from my own sense of humor because its so interpersonal and subjective. It's also a matter of how he sees and talks about Binghe as a complete separate character and a son rather than as a part of himself. Qinghua doesn't think or talk about Luo Binghe like they should be even considered on the exact same wavelength. So yeah, Qinghua probably does share some traits and elements with Binghe. They probably do share a braincell and a number of traits, but like this, all ignores that PIDW was a story written by a desperate author who had past failed works who realized people were actually reading this and needed to make money.

And when you stop and think about how PIDW is a very generic and standard in terms of what it does as a stallion novel doesn't it mean that Luo Binghe is less what Airplane would self insert as and more what he thinks is a marketable protagonist. Like Bingge specifically hits a bunch of classic tropes and elements with the only real defining thing being he's like a black hearted dude and Airplane was absolutely willing to pander to the masses.

What I'm saying is that Luo Binghe is what Qinghua thinks a basic bitch protagonist is. Luo Binghe is what Airplane considers generic wonderbread marketable.

And if you consider what you know and understand about harem novels and this genres tropes and bs nonsense doesn't it just make sense. Like of course he's not a gay man's self insert. He's a gay man's idea of what the basic bitch redditors like to see.

Her and her mother would have such a close bond, and she was never quite the same after her mother died because while she lost both her parents, when it came to her mother she felt like she lost the person who knew her better than anyone. She also felt very alone because now she was the only girl and felt as if she had no one to relate to.

In fact, Curtis!Sister was very distant from home after their parents died, and often stayed at friends houses to avoid what was going on at home whenever she had another place to stay.

As for the gang, of course she would be close with them, and they’re all pretty protective over her

maria: it is my opinion that leland was really close w maria. i think she was probably the first of the group he met, along w julie and danny? it was his first year in college and he was probably doing way too much initially to try to fit in among the frat boys and w/e, but maria was someone genuine and i think that drew him to her. he loved maria a lot, they had a lot of personal values in common. and i think she impacted his overall view of the world, in that she saw beauty in everything and was just a very open and kind soul. being friends with her probably taught him how to slow down a little bit and appreciate the things that captured her love and interest in photography, like sunsets and flower fields and candids of their friends. and i think about how explosive his reaction was to finding her body at the slaughter house. like, for him it was sort of like... if someone like that could be taken away so cruelly and without reason then like what kind of god would allow that to happen? it drove such an emotional spike in him for a long time, he was just angry and sad and didn't know what to do with that. but, thinking about her very nature and how she saw things probably also helped him heal from the grief of losing her and what happened to them all at that house.

julie: so i think julie and him got along pretty quickly, and she was maybe one of the first of the friend group he met? they're sharing a jock braincell and their vibes are simply on similar wavelengths and honestly i feel like he looks up to her a lot? she's just so cool california girl like she might as well be a hollywood star already. he probably goes to her for advice, and also when he's being vaguely whiny and pathetic. but anyway i can see them being chaotic to deal with in any party game scenario, the dual jock energy is too powerful in any scenario tbh. and while i think julie thinks a little more than he does before jumping, they're kind of the first people to jump in feet first. esp if they were both close to maria. leland's like well if julie's going i'm going. leland really resonates with and appreciates her loyalty and bravery for the people around her, she's someone that probably holds the group together as one of their pillars? that's how he sees her anyway! her presence is an immediate morale boost for him, even and especially in the situation they find themselves in later. trusts her loves her would be there for her no matter what, knows she has his back!

danny: danny is probably someone leland was introduced to through julie and maria, and probably wasn't the type of person leland ever hung out with in like, highschool. obviously danny had a tough upbringing and was kind of other side of the tracks from him, but he also seemed like a very down to earth easy going person so i feel like leland would have at least on his end gotten along with danny quickly. he's just your local chill stoner van vibes type dude how can you not like him. i think they probably share a braincell sometimes like i think they're funny and encourage each other's nonsense. they are giving me vibes of bros who u find passed out cuddling or half sprawled on each other after the party just bro things. but like w/ julie leland appreciates danny's ride or die loyalty like i feel like he was probably also easy to convince to go find maria, since his summary mentions how close he was with her. supposedly also a tough kid so u know, leland and danny handshake emoji protect our friends boys???

ana: idk if any of the friends would have known ana but leland definitely heard about her from maria, and knew how much maria cared about her little sister. i think that immediately upon meeting her, he quickly likes her because of course, she reminds him of one of his closest friends. he's kind of like... in awe and humbled a bit by her determination to find her sister, taking it into her own hands to form a search party. so, whatever his reservations are about anything, there's no shot he could have told her no. i think as they go on the roadtrip, he feels for her being like, an outsider to their group, and kind of does his best to make her feel welcome with them. bring her spirits up a little bit etc. i think he also feels very responsible in particular for keeping her safe, for maria's sake, and then ofc a responsibility to ana to find maria, because he knows their family has been through a lot already. idk, she's brave and resilient and he respects her a lot!

Thank you to @justheretoread3 and sorry for the late reply, but its summer and my brain got overheated.

So here some angsty scribbles feat by 1th year braincell group. Enjoy ^^

Warning: angst, mention of cheating, breakup, toxic behavior, manipulation and physical harm

Ace: I think, ironically, he struggled the most before the final decision (if i remember correctly its canon he had a romantic relationship before)  as he know how it felt to be heartbroken. But still take his s/o feelings and actions as granted (and somewhat boring and monotone) and an adventurous MC swept him from his feet. I dont think he made a big ruckus about the whole breakup: one day he was all kissy-kissy with his s/o and the next day he was with the mc hand-in-hand. Still, when he learn about the MC's real intentions (aka. reverse harem) he does not accept it (he is way too possessive to share MC). He want to go back his old s/o, but not for love nor guilt, but for stability what his prev s/o provided him. Sadly, s/o was not forgiven easily for the betrayal.

Deuce: He is probably the one who is totally clueless about what he is saying. He triumph MC almost every movement (he is a simp, try to change my mind), what at first was not a problem but later his s/o start to have insecurities because Deuce contantly hovering over the MC and not caring about what his partner does for him. And when realise what he did, it will be too late. MC did not take him seriously and his s/o left him with the help of Trey and Cater, who encourage s/o  to not stay with a guy who did not deserve them. And i'm sure they will beat Deuce if he try to crawl back to his s/o.

Jack: He is a risky one. Even though he is a gentle tsundere, he is still a strong beastman with a temperament which can be dangerous toward his s/o in every possible way. This is why i think he is the only one (maybe, really maybe Sebek) who accidentally hurt his s/o for MC and this will be very reason for his s/o to leave them. He is also not into sharing (no harem) but he is not going back to his old s/o. He know he lost them and truly regret it, but he crossed the line.

Epel:Hm, he is a tricky one. The only thing what i imagine as “reason” for breakup with his s/o as he think s/o not take his manly qualities seriously like MC (which is not true ofc), and sometimes snap at his s/o why they not accept him for himself like MC do. Vil and Rook try to help amend the situation but Epel does not care about their “interfere” and alianates himself even more from his s/o. Of course they finally fed up and left the angy apple boi alone.He only realised his actions when his parents and grandparents scold him. He does regret his actions but also, his old s/o was broke by pieces and and not give him a second chance.

Sebek: I think his action changes depending on his s/o race: if they are fully human, he starts to berate and snap at them for the smallest mistakes. thus he create a “reason” for himself for the breakup. It similar if his s/o is also a halfbreed but more careful with his words and actions (as he respect the fairy parent bloodline) and if they a full fairy he probably belittle himself (yeah, all with his pride) to make him look like “unworthy” in the eye of his partner and want THEM to start the breakup. Thanks to papa bat (or Malleus, or both) intervention his plans are fails and his s/o realize what Sebek did. Worst of all what Sebek got because of this is not shouting or beating (even from Waka-sama berating) but his mother disappointment toward him.

OKAY THE THIRD ONE OF ANECDOTE NIGHT! I went all in and got bad stock photos for this one. It’s gonna be a longish one because the whole situation was.. absurd. It’s all funny and stupid nothing bad dw :]

So. Okay gather around children and let me tell you a story that sometimes comes back to haunt me and makes me cringe inwards like a sponge left to dry on a sunny day

It was late spring the year I was fifteen years old. Me and my best friend were hanging out at my house, bored out of our minds. We’d blogged on myspace already too much and crash bandicoot 3: warped started to grow boring after having played it for too long. So we decided, let’s do something fun.

And being fifteen, we were going trough the infamous ”Rawr O-o XD so RaNdOm lul ^_^” phase that every teenager goes. (You did too you filthy liar.)

So we decided on doing something random that we tought would be really funny. We got two of my mom’s colorful ikea flower vases (pictured below)

And stole my brother’s pepsi max from the fridge. Packed them in a backbag. Then decided to add a metronome I had lying around from earlier. I was practising for my flute matineé as I had to get a good grade on it to qualify to the school orchestra. You know, like all the cool kids. To those not in the realm of music, a metronome is a little machine that ticks on a certain tempo you set it to, to keep you on pace when playing. Example picture below.

Throw that in the backbag too and head out. My house was near this nature path-park-thingy that has statues on it. Fairly popular place for nice afternoon outings for those old couples with matching windbreaker jackets. We found our way to the nature path and set up camp. Set the metronome on the ground ticking, filled up the vases with the stolen pepsi and toasted the drinks. We pretented to greet bypassers like we were in a party, only noice being the goddamn metronome ticking on the ground. All this for the sake of being ”random”. All people walking by looked us weird (because we were being very weird and annoying) and we tought it was absolutely hilarious.

So after a moment this old gentleman approaches us, intrigued. He looked a little peculiar and had a certain oddity vibe to him. A stock photo of a man with his likeness attached below

So he apporaches us and asks, is this a contemporary art installation? Me and my best friend glance each other. What? Is it a whatingy what now? Goes trough our heads. But some GODFORSAKEN REASON we decide it’s a good thing to tell him that YEAH THIS IS EXACTLY THAT. We did not even know what it meant but decided to go with it.

So he starts praising us on the novelty and modernity of it, and giving us constructive critisism. He goes on about some artist who have done something similar and how our constellation differs and what he thinks of the meanings. Me and my best friend just kinda freeze in place and try to look like we know exactly what he’s talking about and we definitely are not just two morons with one shared braincell and too much time on our hands.

So turns out this bearded gentleman was the art professor of our town’s highschool ( we were still in junior high so we didn’t know) He had like, a bajillion degrees in art. How did we find out, you ask?

Well. We did post photos of this whole ordeal on facebook, and our older friend informed us this professor was using our ”installation” as an example on a course she was attending. Like describing it as art. We blackmailed said friend with very heavy implications of stuffing her in a box and mailing it to jamaica if she ever told A SOUL that she saw our photos and knew the story behind this bizarre installation the professor kept referring to. And we kept hearing rumours even years after that this installation was still a reference talked about on an art class. I never dared to check if the rumors were true.

I don't mind at all, and I don't think I've answered this before, so you're good!

Now, take these with a grain of salt because honestly at this point I can't remember if this will 100% line up with canon Lance and Keith, or if they will more line up with the version of Lance and Keith I've come to have in my head for my own fics and comics. I've tried to keep them as "in character" as possible, but it's also been a while since I watched the show.

So let's start with Lance:

Strength –

He is also very aware and sensitive to the people around him. He wants everyone to be included, and he wants everyone to be recognized because he knows how much it hurts when that doesn't happen. I also personally think this is why he was antagonistic toward Keith in the beginning, because it was one of the only things that made Keith join in, or speak up.

Weakness – He thinks very little of himself. As much as he is the big picture guy, he can't see the big picture of himself. He can't see how much he does contribute, and so this gets internalized as insecurity and doubt.

Now let's move on to Keith:

Strength –

He is not afraid to stand up for the things he believes. Maybe this is a hc but I don't think it is. I think Keith feels things very strongly and has a good sense of what feels right and what feels wrong. And whenever he feels strongly enough about something, he is willing to put himself on the line to stand up and fight for it.

Weakness – He does not seem to care about himself. Mission over individual and all that. It can easily come off as bravery, but in Keith's case – especially since the Naxzella battle – it comes off more as the fact that he feels it's okay for him to take a risk because sure, maybe he'll succeed, but if he doesn't that's okay, too.

I only used one example, because I haven't got all day LOL.

Now, here's the thing. Part of the reason why I love their dynamic is that they are weirdly inherently very similar. They are both the type to jump in to protect someone else, both the one to put themselves last. They both also have some deep-seated personal issues that honestly some therapy would help with.

But my favorite part about their dynamic that I know was in the show was that they drove each other to be better. They challenged each other and without even purposefully doing it, they both made the other one become more of who he was meant to be.

Of course, an argument could always be made that yet another favorite part of their dynamic was that they 100% had that "sharing a single braincell" relationship at times. And let's be honest, here – who doesn't love that?

♡ Following the events at Kamino Ward, Tomura was separated from Kurogiri in the Commission's new rehabilitation program. He did not take this well. Tomura was already aggressive after being taken into custody, and the loss of his caretaker only caused him to become like a cornered animal, snapping at anyone that got too close. Seeing that Tomura wouldn't let any of the experts close, they pawned him off on Kurogiri's, now Oboro's, guardian. Shouta Aizawa.

♡ Or course, Shouta had a few understandable hang ups about this. Tomura was. Aggressive, stubborn, and a number of other unflattering traits... Not including the fact that it was because of Tomura he now suffers chronic pain and migraines, coupled with various nightmares involving USJ and the kidnapping of his student. But, Oboro assured him that he could handle the little monster.

♡ Shouta was uncertain and remained uncertain for the first few days. Oboro took some time away from his group therapy sessions to help get Tomura settled in, and to try and help Shouta feel less uneasy around the new addition. It was incredibly beneficial for both parties to have a trusted middle man.

♡ Until said middle man had to return to his own road to recovery and left Tomura's care in Shouta's hands. Oboro didn't leave Shouta in the dark, though. He could never do that to a friend! He went into great detail about how to keep Tomura relatively mellow in his absence, and all the signs that Tomura was about to drop. "Drop what?" Shouta asked. ever so eloquently. "Into his headspace!" Oboro replied, just as eloquently.

♡ They share a braincell and neither one had it in that moment.

♡ So, Oboro graciously explained that his charge was a regressor. He'd been regressing as long as he had access to the internet, which was probably longer than most people his age should have had access to it, and that he tended to drop pretty low and could stay there for long periods of time. Shouta was hesitant to be left alone with what was essentially described as an infant. Sure, he was coasting by with roughly twenty teenagers at a time, but this was a five foot nine inch tall child with a bloodlust.

♡ Or. That's what he anticipated.

♡ Due to the stress of having to navigate Aizawa's home on his own, Tomura just slid into his headspace and located Sushi as soon as he figured out how to untangled himself from his sheets. He didn't fully lose the sheets until halfway down the hall. So, valiantly inch worming to the cat tower, Tomura set about his sinister plot. Meowing at the cat until they responded. Having watched this whole endeavor begin and end, Shouta found it... Dreadfully cute. There's nothing more human than having a very spirited conversation with a cat in his opinion and it opened up apart of him that saw what Oboro was talking about.

♡ Tomura was just a kid, put into situations a kid should have never been in at all and now he's in a place where he can safely cope with what happened to him. And if this helped Tomura to reintegrate into society or be a better person or just helped at all, Shouta would have to be a fool not to try and help... Plus Tomura was about to get into the cat food and someone had to stop him.

♡ When Shouta started helping during his drops, Tomura was hesitant to let his walls down. Something about looking at Shouta made him feel... Guilty. A sickness filled the pit of his tummy when he'd help tie his shoes or keep his paws out of the kitty snacks and he couldn't place it.

♡ So he just followed his instinct one day after bonking his head into the kitchen counter when Uncle Shouta was sticking a Hello Kitty band aid on the scrape, murmuring to Tomura, "You're fine, you're fine, I've got it, Toto."

♡ He picked out a band aid too, My Melody, and unpeeled it. Tomura reached up and stuck it over Shouta's scar, softly echoing the older man's words. "You're fine."

♡ It marked a very big milestone in their relationship where Tomura expressed remorse and empathy for what he'd done months back, and soothed some of the tension between them.

♡ They tend to spend a lot of time together! (Mostly because the Commission requires Tomura be under strict pro-hero surveillance) So they had a lot of time to learn about each other. One thing that gets a good chuckle out of Shouta is that Tomura has a terrible case of face blindness when he's small, and STAUNCHLY does not believe that his uncle is also his favorite pro-hero, Eraserhead.

♡ Watching the gears turn in the tot's packing peanut brain brings Shouta a great amount of joy. He frequently uses this fact when Tomura's beloved Mon-chan needs to go in the washing machine. Tomura trusts that Eraserhead will take only the BEST care of her!

♡ Shouta doesn't use many nicknames for anyone, but the ones he does use are very very special. Tomura has Toto, which is a very common one to hear, but he also has a very special, very secret one. "Blue Bunny."

♡ Tomura has a tendency to get underfoot very often, so Shouta typically ends up picking him up sometime throughout the day. It comes to him so naturally that he's unintentionally scooped up his students when they trip up during practice.

♡ No one must mention it.

♡ A lot of how Shouta cares for Tomura has slipped into how he interacts with his students, and he's slowly breaching the apathetic acceptance stage. However the time he caught himself licking his thumb to wipe curry off Hitoshi's face during their one on one training will firmly be burned into his memory.

♡ He's just thankful he didn't do it to one of his 1A students.

♡ Tomura has started to mimic some of Shouta's facial expressions and Oboro isn't sure how long it'll take before he bruises an organ from laughing so hard.

♡ What can he say? He looks up to his uncle a lot!

♡ Shouta will very softly hum for Tomura when he's suffering from his nightmares, holding him in a firm, but gentle hug so he doesn't toss himself onto the floor. In turn, when Shouta is immobilized by his chronic pain flareups, Tomura will shuffle up as silent as the night, dragging a weighted blanket and insist uncle hugs Mon-chan while baby Toto looks up cat videos for them to watch.

♡ Who is he to deny such a request?

♡ All in all, they are an unconventional and loving little family unit that neither would never trade for the world.

joan - what do you wish the series would cover next, or what kind of turn would you want to see it take?

!! okay this is a really fun question. ‘cause i’ve thought about this a lot. timeline-wise, I only got really involved with the fandom around the release of ATHD, and ever since then i’ve really enjoyed imagining the “next” events of the series. sometimes theories, sometimes just AUs, but it’s always fun!

and see, there are tons of things i’d love to explore in the context of canon. like sides switching from light to dark, or a side shutting themselves off, or serious backstory elements like the formation of roman and remus. tons of stuff that’d be super cool to think about.

but they’re not stuff i’d actually want in canon necessarily, you know? and they’re mostly not stuff i’d ever expect canon to actually do. so here’s a little incomplete list of things i’d love to actually see in the series, and which I think are (semi)-plausible:

1. Roman’s arc. had to add this one. I’m pretty sure it’s coming up after PoF (and it better) and I am so, so excited. roman’s been a slow-boiling pot of emotional turmoil for a while now and I just wanna see it spill over!

and look. don’t get me wrong, i love the pintroverts so much, but—yeah, i really wanna see thomas and nico go through a rough patch. thomas, and by extension roman, are pinning so many expectations on nico. they’re emotionally unready and using nico like a way to redeem themselves and feel better, instead of confronting their own issues. not to say the relationship can’t work out, but i can figure there’ll be some bumps on the road.

and possible failure with nico would be a great catalyst for roman’s full breakdown. he’s got everything riding on this guy! he calls nico “a chance at happiness”! and he’s the romantic side, he wants this to work out, so thomas will trust him again. and if it fails, it’ll break roman into tiny, tiny pieces.

plus, i know the season finale is probably going to be a two-parter, like with virgil’s episode? and i don’t know if i actually want roman to duck out, but i am really excited for some parallels to virgil’s arc. acceptance instead of redemption, being more than your function, every side being valued, and virgil and roman continuing to become closer together. if i do not get a remix of “you make us better” but virgil to roman, i will riot /j

2. Logan’s arc. then following roman, our braincell boy! logan is another steaming pile of issues who’s been repressing for far too long. i want to see him admit he has feelings. i want to see him cry. maybe this is the angst demon in me, but come on, he deserves it.

an aspect of logan that’s really fascinating to me is his relation to thomas’ own self-image and needs. logan defines himself by his use to thomas—he has the least belief in himself as a separate entity. and he’s felt sidelined for a long time, possibly ever since thomas became a youtube.

i think it’d be super interesting to see more of how their dynamic was before thomas made the career switch, how logan feels about it, and how his “lack of feelings” is an extension of his refusal to acknowledge his own personhood. he doesn’t let himself want or feel—and he’s actually kinda similar to roman in that regard. roman and logan are narrative foils in a lot of ways. which would make it kinda cool if their arcs were somewhat consecutive—logan helps roman value himself, and roman returns the favor.

oh, and i’d love it if virgil and logan could come full circle, too? virgil comforts logan during the whole thing, maybe even talking to him about cognitive distortions or using techniques logan taught him to destress. they’re really good friends and i wanna see more of that.

3. Janus becoming part of the group. i have so many feelings about janus. he’s poised to join the gang and start helping thomas from the inside, but his acceptance is still conditional, fragile, and fragmented. roman loathes him, logan resents him, and virgil has a history with him. and janus is gonna have to try and get through all that.

i already love his dynamic with patton, i really want them to be friends. i think a logan and janus debate would be fucking fantastic. i am begging for roman and janus to talk things out. and i really, really want to see virgil and janus become friends again.

but maybe what i’m most interested in is janus himself, and his relationship to thomas. i still love interpreting the “is that fair to him” line as referencing janus’ complex and difficult role as the keeper of all lies. he’s still hiding an orange side from us, probably, and he’s trying to keep everything stable.

what happens if he slips up? what happens if he gets close to patton and starts having new priorities? how did that affect his relationship with virgil? i want to really explore janus’ character and motivations.

and also janus and remus content. give it. this is an order.

4. Remus. Literally anything remus. Please I’m starving, I just want to see my trash boy, when will he return from the war?

Seriously, though, I’d love more remus. his thoughts on nico. his motivation, his daily life, his relationship with janus and the other sides. i think he could really be great friends with all of them if he was given time to settle, and my intruality heart says he deserves to be chaotic besties with patton.

and! and his relationship with roman!! i really wanna see them grow closer and be bros, while working through the deep complexities of their issues with one another. because right now roman has so many projections of remus as his worst enemy and the epitome of everything he doesn’t wanna be, and remus just…doesn’t care about all that. that’s so interesting!!

remus is just such a refreshing character in so many ways. he’s so blunt and open and honest, he doesn’t hide or repress anything, and that’d be so much fun to explore! plop him in the middle of the other sides and see how long it takes for stuff to explode. i wanna see him break the status quo just because he can.

5. Patton’s arc. oh, you thought his character development was done? not even close. he learned a lot from moving on, but pof proved he still has a long way to go. and tbh I think he’s in a really precarious position right now.

yeah, he’s finally opening up to janus and the others. but he’s also very vulnerable, very unsure, and very ready to throw himself out of the picture if thomas needs him to. he asked if janus thought patton was just bad for thomas, and he seemed ready to take that advice and leave thomas be.

which is. concerning. and I think as patton learns to pull back and let thomas--and everyone--stand on their own without him smothering them, as he learns to have faith in others and not feel pressured to fix everything himself, he needs to work on his own self-worth, too.

patton, like a lot of the sides, is separating himself from his function. and that’s gonna be painful and messy and probably include a lot of backsliding. i wanna see him talk to the others, really talk to them, and get the support from his friends he needs! and that includes:

6. virgil continuing to support his friends. virgil has been doing great character-development-wise, but again, he has far to go! and what I want to see more of is stuff like FWSA. him beginning to truly support his friends in the way they’ve supported him.

his friendships with roman and logan are so sweet and I wanna see more of that. please. and I wanna see him bond with remus and janus again, and most of all, I want patton and virgil to really sit down and talk about stuff. they’ve been going through it for a while and I want them to talk.

the sad part, of course, is that post-pof they’re probably in an even worse place. there’s a reason patton didn’t show up in FWSA even when matters of the heart were involved. they’re on thin ice around each other, and throwing janus and roman into it will just make everything more complicated.

but I believe in them! they’re good friends, and I think if they try, they can work through it and learn more about each other.

7. bonding between the dark and light sides. basically already covered this one but guys. i want everyone to bond. i want logan and remus sharing cool facts. i want janus and virgil being snarky best friends. i want patton and remus teaming up to make stuff happen, and janus calling logan out on his repression, and virgil and remus listening to mcr and just. them, okay? them. glad we had this talk.

8. a breaking down of the dark sides and light sides altogether. i don’t necessarily mean anyone becomes a dark side (although it’s such a fun idea.) I mean really digging into the morality and formation of the “sides”, and eventually dismantling them.

the dark and light sides aren’t good and evil. they’re sides that thomas wants around, that are useful, and sides he doesn’t. and as janus becomes wanted at the table, and as patton and roman pull away and become less useful, it’ll be interesting to see how those dynamics shift.

the issue of identity is really at the heart of sanders sides. how much of you is you, and how much of it is what others want? are you beholden to others’ expectations, and how do you find personal worth? what defines you--by what measure is a man? how does a person change and grow? can they? or are they always, at the core, what they began as?

these questions obviously don’t have simple answers, but they’re stuff I wanna see talked about. i want to see the difficulty of even finding the line between selfishness and selflessness when you exist to serve another self. actions can be selfish and selfless all at once, a mass of contradictions that’s anything but black and white. and I wanna see more of that.

an idea I toy with sometimes is having a brief, or not so brief, reversal of dark sides and light sides. remus and janus, and maybe virgil, become more listened to. and roman, patton, and logan become the sides in the background. i dunno if it would actually happen, but I think it’d be interesting to consider--because once again, it’s about use versus value and wants versus needs.

if thomas wants a side, will they stick around? what about if he only wants to want them? what if he wants them as a friend but doesn’t need their function? what if they don’t think he wants them? what if any number of things?

i want to see discussion and deconstruction of the sides as a whole. i want to see them really dig deep into their purpose and formation. i want everything laid bare. and then finally, I want:

9. thomas ends the series by letting go of the sides. i am such a fucking sucker for bittersweet open endings like that. it wouldn’t be a full erasure of the sides, they’d still exist in the mind palace, probably hanging out and having movie nights and being a family. but they wouldn’t talk to thomas anymore.

i think it could be a really profound note about not only letting go of parts of your life and moving forward, but how c!thomas should work to stand on his own. yes, the sides are parts of him, but he’s more than the combination of their input. he’s his own person. he’s real. and I think he needs to work on being more self-reliant, in the moment, and start to discover his identity not in pieces, but as a whole.

the sides weren't bad for him. not in the slightest. they’ve helped him understand and come to terms with any number of things. but sometimes people grow and move forward, and they have to say goodbye to some parts of their life. that’s a fact. and with the ongoing theme of moving on and chasing the future, i think thomas would reasonably do that--end the series with a goodbye.

10. and...orange side. i’ve talked a lot about my ideas for the orange side, but suffice it to say, i’m looking forward to them. whoever they end up being.

so yeah, that’s a very long post about my ideas that isn’t half as long as it could be dhfgsjhs i’ve considered writing something like a canon divergence AU, or just rambling on tumblr, but for now that’s what I got. and this is all to say, hire me, sanders sides writing team /j

Okay I'm gonna put this under a read more cause it's long and detailed and like a weird conspiracy time line I made for my personal entertainment that I've never been given the green light to share.

I preface this with the fact you have asked something I've been sitting on for *AGES* because I figured nobody would want to hear.

But the TLDR; Basically Young Lovers, Drifted Apart, Jealous Adults unable to handle their feelings correctly, Eventually Together.

Okay so like. This is my personal universal headcanoning shit.

Die and Crowbar were actually very close during Caliborn's Session-most Leperchauns that have similar corresponding powers do. (I.E. Eggs and Biscuits, Itchy and Doze, etc. etc.) but Crowbar and Die seemed unique as they were 'acquired' at the same time, sharing at least two charms together over the course of Caliborn's session. Crowbar was made the established leader of the pack at this time, but Die continued to stay close to him.

Things were kind of hectic for a while between establishing themselves in Midnight City and Crowbar was getting the ropes on being a leader for a bunch of feral mooks that he sort of ended up shelfing the whole relationship with Die for a while. Crowbar got more self conscious about his image, about how he was perceived and how he needs to command respect and he sort of developed Eldest Child Syndrome (it made him a good serious leader but everyone started regarding him as a bossy stick in the mud because of it)

Meanwhile, Die trying to occupy his new free time and cope with the loneliness as he sort of doesn't get along with....really anyone else-turned to studying the information on Horror Terrors the Carpacians brought with them from their destroyed moons. Sort of meddling around with this information for personal hobby interest (as well as a subtly nudged by Doc Scratch as the information later would be useful to him) He sort of teetered off the edge of being....'sound' of mind. And started to become a sort of paranoid overly anxious wreck scared of his own shadow, living in superstition and religion brought by the Carpacians to try and cope and have a sense of protection and acrewed a number of chickens used for a variety of things.

So they sort of inadvertently drifted away from each other.

When things sort of started to settle down and they had a more proper footing as a threatening gang; Die sort of got his hopes up over Crowbar again, that maybe he would have time for him again and they could sort of pick up where they left off. Unfortunately-Crowbar was attempting to take an interest in Snowman as she was actually another individual with a braincell in the group finally. And that sort of broke a lot of Die's hopes and dreams and feelings. (Dead ass, I imagine Die changed up his hair after this in a Knives Breakdown scene. Stitch is the other girl.)

Eventually Snowman sort of left Crowbar out high to dry because she got bored with her new 'toy' after a while and Crowbar sort of re-sought out Die, missing that sort of mutual relationship they used to have together. Only to find Die had been seeking 'attention' from people outside of the Felt Manor and had a sort of 'consensual violent paramour'-which resulted in Crowbar being extremely jealous to the point where he was getting concerned getting this worked up was affecting him. (And slightly more alcoholic than the Felt Normal Standards. Remember, if you leave the bottles on the floor, you're a drunk-if you line them up on your desk in an aesthetically pleasing matter, you're classy.)

Eventually at some point, Die ended up breaking things off and he and Crowbar sort of fell back into their old paces together. Granted a lot of the charms they used to have together had changed; they had changed and become much much different people. Die sort of had to re-learn that affection can exist in a relationship as his previous one had just been very physical with no affection-sheerly a 'benefits' situation. And Crowbar sort of learned that he can't really take Die for granted or treat him the same as the rest of the Felt-given how his Horror Terror affected mind has made him. They're informally Trove mates-granted both of them agreed to keep their relationship as private as well....two guys sharing one house with 15 other people can. Crowbar still has to maintain his serious leader shtick and Die usually stays away from him when he's busy leading to sort of maintain this 'oh we're not in a relationship, we're just really close friends.....who sometimes visit each others rooms in the dead of night. sneakily. cause we're friends'

Remember how I always go on about how we all in this fandom share about 2.7 braincells and constantly come up with the same ideas? Well. TURNS OUT IT'S UNIVERSAL!

(Slightly spoilery details under the cut. tl;dr: I was really worried I wouldn't agree with how the author writes Rios’s character, and his friendship with Raffi, and the origin of his ship, but so far, I AM DELIGHTED!!)

Remember when the show first came out and several people (though I can't say who anymore) said that the holos' accents were a little over the top because they're not "a person with an Irish/English/Scottish/American accent" but "Cris Rios doing a not-super-convincing Irish/etc. accent"? Turns out: Miller had exactly that same idea! Completely amazing!

I still haven't met the holos, but... Rios gets supremely drunk one night, drunk enough he doesn't remember anything the morning after, and... I am VERY certain we're gonna find out soon that on that fateful night, he made certain... additions to his ship. I have to admit I was glad to be in a car on the highway while it was happening, because I was scream-queeing about it SO LOUDLY 😂🤣

Raffi, of course, is the one getting Rios a bunch of his assignments and trying to get him to meet people and so far, their interactions have been "bickering over the subspace comms" and... see what I mean about the same things cropping up again and again?

It's like... yes, these are very low-hanging fruit. These scenes aren’t at all far fetched or exotic, they are very straightforward given what we know about the characters. But the fact they're showing up in the book shows that everyone, from the RPers to the fic writers to the "professional" fic writer reads these characters similarly and it makes me extremely happy!

There's a bunch more moments where I thought "ah yes! This scene is very similar to that particular fic, or this WIP of @regionalpancake​ 's I was privileged enough to get a glimpse of, or this WIP of mine that has been languishing in the drafts for I-wanna-say-an-age...” And it's not even because we're inspired by each other, it's just parallel evolution, people coming up with the same ideas, but they are AMAZING ideas, so it's just wonderful to see!!

On a slightly more broad note: It's humbling when you're listening to an "official" story and can go "hmmmmm no, there is no loading ramp there. Actually those wings are somewhere else. When you say the ship 'isn't that old', do you mean in like... the galactic sense? Because 50 seems old, even for a freighter starship...."

I just... look, I have invested a ludicrous amount of time into investigating every little snippet of this ship. I have no expectation any writer do even remotely the same, write Sirena however big or small you want! It's just kinda fun to realize that I actually know a lot of this stuff and notice when someone is, say, working from an old set of images :D

a/n: aight guys I’m not dead! i haven’t really had the time to write much, but aaron tveit lives in my heart rent free so here’s these dumb kinda specific really long headcanons:

so you both probably met pretty early into aaron’s career

it’s probably safe to say both of you would have the same if not similar careers, broadway and acting

and though aaron was lucky enough to get his big break, you had unfortunately not (yet) and had to wait tables for a couple years after college

you worked at a restaurant close to the theatre district after undergrad and aaron was starring in Hairspray

the boy saw you and was w h i p p e d

would come to the restaurant like 4 days a week

and you guys were friends for a while! dumbass and chaotic conversation was a YES

you first caught feelings when aaron invited you to see him as Fiyero in Wicked

OH BABEY A DOUBLE (I’m gunna put Qrow in a separate post to avoid making this too long) thank you so much!

Warning: This is a PRO IRONWOOD POST. I also go into team RWBY taking responsibility for their abuse towards Ozpin. Don’t read this if you don’t like it. You’ve been warned

My top three two ships for Ironwood

1) Ironqrow (Ironwood x Qrow) {Volumes 3-7}

I have loved the idea of these two since the fall of beacon. When they first interacted, I wasn’t too sure about them because it seemed like they didn’t really like each other.. but that scene where all the robots were turning on beacon and Qrow spotted ironwood, ran at him with his scythe, only to jump over him and save him from a Grimm, sold the ship to me. It was clear that they didn’t actually despise each other. Qrow wasn’t quick to point fingers; he knew that what was going on wasn’t James’ fault, and he even tried to add a little bit of comic relief to the scene. (When ironwood’s ship fell, and Qrow smirked “well, it won’t be much of a walk”)

My love for the ship was reinforced in v6 (yeah I know it was the fan service volume but I’m rolling with it anyway). Qrow knew that they HAD to get to ironwood in order to complete their goal. He trusted James, and he knew that he was a smart and capable leader who would know what to do (ah,, the good old days ;;)

And then in the early episodes of v7, their bickering that we once saw in v3 was non existent. They were happy to see each other, and James even initiated a hug. He was just so relieved to see him ;; it made my heart melt, I remember posting about this moment so much, all over instagram and tumblr. I loved them so dearly.

2) Ironwood x Glynda (idk if they have a ship name)

God,, I always loved them. that scene in v2 with Ironwood and Glynda standing together in the dead of night looking over the city of vale was so special to me. I love Glynda and her character, she is so dynamic. that scene with her and ironwood showed to us that she truly respected and cared for him and his well-being. She was worried for him as well. I just wish they had more interactions before his death. they would have been very sweet and POWERFUL together.

My three least favourite ships for Ironwood

1) Ironqrow {Volumes 7-8}

Oh boy. RT really knows how to take something good and just, ruin it huh.

I feel as though I don’t need to dive too deep into this (as I’ll be covering Ironwood’s fall from grace later) but yeah... The fight with Qrow and Clover was.. unfortunate. Everyone seemed to lose their braincells in that scene, and the moment it was over, Qrow was dead set on killing Ironwood for some reason even though he was the one who decided to side with a literal murderer, but go off MKEK you really did something there...

Yepp this absolutely killed the ship for me in canon (though I stilln love thinking about them out of the canon setting), I was an absolute wreck after this scene. they deserved better.

2) Ironwood x Winter

don’t worry I’m not about to pull the “IRONWOOD WAS AN ABUSIVE FATHER FIGURE AND GROOMED HER CAREERRHYUGGHR” no.

I always saw Ironwood as a POSITIVE father figure to winter, even before v7. We knew that winter was one of his best soldiers, and was most likely one of his students before then. I believe that Ironwood gave winter a chance at something great, to leave her actual abusive father and hone her skills as a soldier instead of becoming the heiress to a company that she did not want to be tied to. I believe Ironwood was a stellar father figure and role model to her, and that is the reason why I do not ship them. their relationship was so much deeper than that. it was found family.

3) Ironwood x Salem

What the fuck. Like actually what? This was a thing? What is it with this fandom and glorifying abusive relationships... I remember seeing a lot of people trying to justify it like “awh salem was so sweet with him she just wanted him to stop fighting. She would leave him alone after!!” Thats manipulation honey, we don’t fuck with that here. no. Absolutely not

My biggest criticism for Ironwood

It’s no secret to us in the RWDE community that his fall into the role of the villain was POORLY WRITTEN AND WE ALL HATE IT SO FUCKING MUCH. where the hell did this even come from? oh I know! TEAM RWBY LYING TO HIS FACE AFTER HE WAS NOTHING BUT KIND AND GENEROUS TO THEM. god I’m heated already.

I’ve talked about his stupid semblance before but it doesn’t even matter because his semblance wasn’t the cause of his descent anyway. We were all HOPING that it was but nope! it was him “losing his humanity” because he lost his other arm. How fucked up is that.

Shitty writing aside, I know James had flaws even before the shitshow that was v7-8, but honestly there was nothing he did that I can criticize harshly. He was a good and honest man with good intentions and a pure, big heart made of gold. Of course he made mistakes and of course he wasn’t perfect, but he was always trying to do the right thing to protect the people. He was a good man until MKEK decided they needed a reason to kill off another headmaster.

My favourite thing about Ironwood

His willingness to sacrifice himself to save others. During the fall of beacon he told the students that they didn’t have to stay, even though he could have used the help greatly. But he KNEW that they weren’t ready to handle a crisis like this, and he didn’t want to force them into a responsibility that could have left them emotionally/physically damaged, or worse.

During the Ironwood and Watts fight, IRONWOOD MANGLED HIS OWN ARM TO CAPTURE WATTS. He was so headstrong and brave and he wanted to do everything he could to prevent Salem, even if that meant hurting himself and losing another part of himself. God I miss him so much ;; I’m tearing up a little writing all of this...

A head canon I have for Ironwood

I love creating head canons for characters, it always makes them feel more real to me. one of my biggest head canons is that, in a peaceful world setting, he would enjoy sleeping in on the weekends. ;;. He is a headmaster AND a general which means he has to follow a strict schedule all the time. Maybe this is coming from my desire to take care of him and make sure he is happy and healthy and not stressed out.. But yeah, lazy Sundays, sleeping in late. pls let him sleep he needs so much sleep. What I would change about Ironwood if I were making a rewrite

Strap in kiddos I’ve been thinking about this for a very long time. I’m sure that someone has come up with a similar concept, but I will share my ideas anyway (: I am going to preface this by saying that for this rewrite to work, we need to have Winter receive the Winter maiden powers from Freya in V7.  To start, we will have to go back all the way to v2 when Ironwood was first introduced. I would have Ozpin and Glynda share their concerns to each other about Ironwood bringing all of his ships to look over the festival, but I would take that time to thoroughly explain his semblance. His semblance is stupid, so I would make some changes. To start off, I wouldn’t make it passive. The way it is now is just,, a weird way to give him a mental illness without actually giving him a mental illness. Activating it would have to be a decision that he made if he knew that he had to make decisions that would be hard for him. This way if his semblance caused him to do something actually horrible, he would be directly accountable for it, instead of blaming him for something that he couldn’t control. Semblances are a representation of the user, so with time and with more stress put onto Ironwood, I could see him falling victim to his own semblance if he were to abuse it too much. This will help as we lead into a better way to write his fall from grace. 

From there, I would keep pretty much everything the same until we get to v7. Team RWBY arrives in Atlas and gets arrested and brought to Ironwood just as they do in canon. This time, however, we have Oscar explain EVERYTHING. No lying. Salem cannot be killed. Oscar explains that Ozpin shut himself off after team RWBY forced the truth out of him, and while the truth is a lot for Ironwood to handle, he understands why Ozpin kept it a secret. He shuns team RWBY for their methods and explains why their actions were unnecessary and abusive, but agrees to help them anyway since he knows that they all need to come together if this is going to work. Hence, his arc kind of goes backwards. Instead of team RWBY having his trust from the beginning, they will need to work to gain it back. 

He takes Oscar under his wing to try and draw Ozpin back out. He greets Qrow, they fall in love, he also formally introduces the team to the Ace Ops. The Ace Ops take an IMMEDIATE backseat in the story. We don’t need more characters. For the sake of this rewrite specifically, they are barely around. We are focusing on Ironwood and his growth/relationships. I would explore more times to show the deep connection between him and Winter. As I said earlier, I see him as a healthy father figure for her, so I would definitely focus on that for a bit. At this point, Winter would not have received the maidens power yet, so we could have a scene of him assuring her that she is a perfect fit for the role, and encouraging her and just,, you know, solidifying that he wasn’t pressuring her into doing it. 

Carrying on with the main plot, instead of being left in the dark for the whole season, Ironwood is already aware that Salem cannot be killed. This gives him and the rest of the team a lot of time to work on a new plan to defeat her. They spend lots of time training, Ironwood takes care of them, offering his resources to them. Overtime the team do start to gain his trust little by little again, but this will all kinda fall apart when Salem arrives. 

With stress levels higher than ever, he activates his semblance. Team RWBY and friends KNOW about his semblance and they understand why he is acting irrationally. Maybe they have different ideas than him, but they would not directly oppose him. This completely fixes him from becoming a cartoon villain. Team RWBY and friends would work WITH Ironwood at a distance to fix amity and get global communications back up safely. From there, Ironwood could deliver a message to the world about Salem. Since people know who he is, it will make the message more impactful. Just like he did with his message to Mantle.

Qrow and Winter are positives in his life. They keep trying to ground him and bring him back to reality, but he will not deactivate his semblance. He is too scared of what’s to come with Salem. They support him in this, and do not turn their back on him. 

Winter receives the maiden’s power, and is told to open the vault to obtain the staff and raise atlas further into the sky to save his people. Winter agrees, why wouldn’t she? They have already evacuated most of mantle to atlas anyway. In situations like this it’s impossible to save everyone. RWBY could whine and bitch if they wanted to, but there is nothing they could do in this situation because, for the sake of this rewrite, they wouldn’t be as stupid as they are in the canon proper. 

The vault is open and the staff is vulnerable. It is in this moment that the ACTUAL VILLIAN comes into play. Watts took advantage of the security from behind the scenes, giving Salem the exact time that the vault was open. And thanks to him overhearing everything, he knows that all she needs to do is use the staff, and Atlas will fall. Salem appears in the room, and the big finale battle would occur. They weren’t ready yet. They hadn’t finalized the plan to stop her without killing her. Team RWBY Oscar and Qrow would do their best to keep Salem distracted while Winter and Ironwood speak to the staff. Meanwhile, Neo could breach Ironwood’s office and retrieve the relic of knowledge for Salem. 

The battle plays out, she keeps coming back, the team gets tired, Salem loses her patience and just PLOWS through them to get to the staff. She enters the realm and the mystical world around them begins to shatter and break. With that much concentrated evil in this place coming up out of nowhere, it would be sure to shift the balance. 

She goes head to head against Winter and Ironwood for the staff. She knows that using the staff will cause Atlas to come crashing down, so that is exactly  what she does. Since he is already out, she just gives him a command. It doesn’t matter what it is. Atlas starts to fall. She strikes a lethal blow to Ironwood (Keeping the theme of her killing headmasters) and flees with the staff. Qrow runs to his side, he and winter are crying, Team RWBY is upset, OZPIN IS UPSET. With his aura broken and his semblance down, he smiles at them all, says that he is proud of them for their work and he knows that they will find a way to defeat her. He tells them to get out and save themselves, save as many people as they can. They do that, but for further angst, Qrow stays with him, holding him and crying against him as Atlas falls. Team RWBY use the gravity dust keeping Atlas falling slowly to their advantage. They get as many people as they can into airships and send them to mistral. They then make their own way to Vacuo... Since global communications are back up, the world would know about this. This would give Shade academy a good chance to prepare. (damn I could write a fic)

What I think of Ironwood’s allusion and what I would change.

It’s dumb the way that CRWBY has portrayed it. In the story of the Wizard of Oz, the tin man doesn’t have a heart, but learns to love overtime. I used THIS aspect for helping my rewrite of Ironwood. He was hardened at the beginning, but managed to trust again and eventually smiled and said that he was proud of team RWBY and friends in his dying moments. It’s just more impactful that way I think.

Why Jillian Sucks

Hi, welcome to Odyssey Mystery Hour! I'm your host @gritsandbrits and today I'll be talking about a hot topic in the AIO fandom! Wanna know the tea? Keep on reading!

In the weeks I started getting back into the radio series, the newer episodes have started to irk me, mostly because of one of the more annoying additions: Jillian. Marshall. 😬😬😬

Even though I ship Jason with my self insert OC this not going to be about her. There's a lot of reasons why I do NOT like the idea of Jillian x Jason becoming a canon thing on the show. I hope to describe these feelings as best I can.

Who is Jillian you might ask?

Well to put it simply, Jillian is what happens when a Soccer Mom and a TikTok boyfriend mate and spawn an unholy baby and name them Rachel Berry. Out of the aspects of Nu!Odyssey I dislike, Jillian is the one thing I truly despise. Thankfully I've met fans who share the exact sentiment! 😁😒

Double-N Annoying, Double-O Nincompoop

Making her debut in 2018, Jillian is described as lively and upbeat, if a little high strung and immature; the perfect recipe for Kid Appeal! Before she moved to Odyssey she lived in different cities and worked nineteen jobs before becoming roommates with Connie and her sister Jules.

Now this is actually a fairly interesting set up: a new character struggling to find purpose only to discover it in a quaint small town. But as it turns out her going through that many jobs seems to be more than just struggling to find purpose.

When I first saw her design my thought immediately went to the smarmy classmates I went to school with.

We're introduced with this iconic line: "Hi!! I'm Jillian Marshall, double-L Jillian, double-L Marshall! It's so nice to meet you!"

With that one sentence I knew I was about to die.

The following episode has Jillian bumbling through every job interview much to Connie's duress after which she conveniently ending up working at Triple J Antiques...the same place Jason works!

A little backstory on Jason: he is the adult son of John Whittaker, one of the show's main character, and a bit of an Ensemble Darkhorse. He was introduced as a secret agent meant to bring action and intrigue into the show. He was set up as a charismatic and reckless sort of guy clashing with the calmer Jack Allen. After the Green Ring Conspiracy Saga, Jason officially retired from James Bonding and settled down to work at the Allen's antique shop.

Given his immense popularity there's understandable concern for how he is written and who he gets paired up with. So what does that have to do with Jillian.

Well, the idea of Jillian working at the same exact place as Odyssey's resident bachelor and calling him cute raises a few eyebrows.

"B-but Grits all she did was call him cute! You're reaching too far into this!"

Am I? Look I know this wouldn't be much of a big deal too but that is a subtle tactic the writers threw in to get the cogs turning for Jillison. Jason is clearly uninterested and even implied to dislike her. Jillian bemoans this but Connie reassures her that that's not the case. But hey at least she called him cute so OF COURSE she's going to end up being his love interest!

To me removing a character's core trait to justify a romance means you do NOT know how to actually write a compelling romance. It's trite, it's forced and painful to listen to.

It's also obvious she's a replacement for Bernard, given they have similar personalities and her brief stint on TV (which she also failed at lol). But whereas Bernard was actually endearing, Jillian seems more of a cliche womanchild with zero self awareness and tact. No actual depth, just a personality that is incredibly dumbed down and even insulting. Seriously they made her the dumb blond stereotype in an era where we should've moved on from that! 🤦

Did I mention she goes to church?

Yep she's gonna be one of those Christians.

Literally Loveless, Literally!

Oddly enough the narrative frames this as a rivals to lovers thing, where Jason is both the charismatic friendly guy and the super uninterested Straight Man. The constant twisting the turning makes him go OOC. See we know he's fit better as the former because that goes in line with his canon personality. But when they make him the latter he just comes off as unnecessarily mean. This is turns frames Jillian as someone we should pity: "Oh the attractive male doesn't like me because I went into his office without permission!!"

Wouldn't it make more sense for Jillian to be the one uninterested in a romance since her focus in to find a job/better purpose and romance might distract her? That would make a fun subplot...IF SHE WASN'T OBNOXIOUS!

A pattern I noticed and several fans pointed out: Jason's previous love interests were consistent in that they were strong minded women who challenged him in different ways. Their personalities bounced off creating a fun dynamic that was entertaining to see. Even though they didn't end up with him, you can still see and hear and feel their chemistry which is my goal for Jason x OC. Tasha doesn't make Jason OOC & they had a bittersweet arc, so their interactions were organic. Monica only made him OOC because she was a villain actively manipulating him. So again that worked in terms of story and led to Monica's redemption if my memory serves.

However, Jillian's dynamic is not that fun to listen to. You can feel her annoying Jason through the airwaves. She's strong but only in the sense of feeling something hard underneath your back laying on the bed and realizing that's just your earbud. She's vibrant yes but what else? She doesn't have any unique traits to contrast Jason, and any attempt at a contrast would mean making him act out of character. Adding her bumbling clumsiness and annoying voice, Jason would get tired of her very quickly. He's the type to go for people to have intelligent conversations with, not make him lose braincells. She could very well bring out the worse in him, it'll be an unhealthy relationship.

Here's a tidbit worth mentioning: the VA for Jillian actually auditioned with Jason's VA Townsend Coleman. Now that is big ass red flag right there! No hate towards the actress, just throwing that out there. There's also a facebook page dedicated to Jillison. Typical FB stupidity ramped up to eleven, or AIO fans who see something in Jillian; or at least THINk they see something worthwhile in her.

It doesn't help the writers keep insisting that these two go well together. The audience knows they do not work well as a pair but the narrative keeps insisting they are anyways. I recall an episode that had them pretend to be married while undercover and it was bad. Like REALLY humiliating to see Jason put in that position. He also told her to shut up much to my joy because she could NOT stop being irritating for five minutes. Alas the show still tries to justify Jillian being the Perfect Woman for Jason when she's anything but. And not even endearingly imperfect.

Follow Up

These tags I wrote on one of the AIO posts describes how I feel about Villain Marshall and the Jillison coupling as a whole. It just wouldn't work because Jason needs someone that can actually CHALLENGE him, have their own personality that can bounce off his (without being forced), and most importantly DOESN'T AGGRAVATE THE FANDOM!!

I have not met a single person anywhere that say they like Jillian. It's a different story apparently on the Club App - they like her for reasons I'm too cowardly to find out. But no, she sucks as a character. She makes a annoying friend, and is not a good addition to the show, much less a good love interest.

The only good thing she brought us are the nicknames we gave her 😌

Tear Drops Nightmare - short review of the Devilgrams

Devilgrams: Memorable Photos (Diavolo), Our Story's Ending (Satan), Make Solomon Cry! (Solomon)

Memorable Photos

As the title says, there's going to be photos. There isn't really much else but looking through a photo album with Diavolo as he opens up, shares his memories and feelings.

There isn't any plot in the Devilgram due to this - it's just sitting there and having a calm evening. It's not bad per se and for what it is, it is balanced quite well: you get there some shenanigans mentioned,

It seems to already be a standard for him, but Diavolo says a lot of things with sad implications and this Devilgram is full of that. I walked into 2 such moments in part 1, then further 3.

In general, it's a bittersweet Devilgram, but despite the angsty implications rather on a sweet side.

Choices: choice + reaction. There is nothing especially very interesting about the choices. Some reactions might be worth replaying and unlocking though.

Music: unnoticeable, so good. Doesn't disturb the reading and hits the mood.

Our Story's Ending

This Devilgram has a tiny bit of plot, but in general is just as situational as the previous one. Which isn't a bad thing if done well.

This one is a very basic reading date, so nothing much happens and there's no groundbreaking reveal. Yet, it's quite a pleasant read!

Satan and MC seem quite comfortable together, exchanging opinions, just being in each other's presence and enjoying the silence and books together. And while it's hardly interesting per se, it gives you a nicely written moment of quiet with Satan and a really adorable scene with embarrassed Satan as well. There's a tiny bit of angst hinted at too (due to the book he's reading mostly, by comparison), but in general the Devilgram is definitely on the heartwarming side.

Of course if you prefer a different type of Devilgrams, this one might be boring. The conversations that MC and Satan have are tightly linked to what they're reading and there's nothing much besides the exchange of opinions.

Choices: many of them are unlocking a scene, but if you choose the other option it's just choice + reaction. The scene can get quite short due to that, but some are definitely worth unlocking - you can get quite a different conversation if you go with different choices! That's definitely good, though it'd be even nicer if it wasn't basically good choice with a scene or bad choice and next scene but both choices gave results of a similar length.

Music: unnoticeable. That's good.

In general, the Devilgram is a solid slice of life scenario with Satan, sweet and soothing despite the tears theme, so if you want to get a story that's generally about everyday happiness with him, that's the Devilgram for you. I enjoyed the Devilgram even if it gave me nothing interesting to think of later.

Make Solomon Cry!

A comedic one. Exactly what it says on the tin - MC tries to make Solomon cry because… just because. Though I have to say that most of the comedic material is just second hand embarrassment at what MC & the angels do.

It's the only Devilgram of the three that has some story but there isn't really anything much to it. There's no bonding between MC and Solomon, we don't get to know him better either. Everything comes down to whether you like the humour or not and if you want to spend DV on a Devilgram that's basically just MC trying to prank Solomon.

Choices: some are choice + reaction, some unlock further dialogue; some scenes change quite a lot depending on options so unlocking everything actually has a point! But in general choices are kind of annoying. MC is such an obvious dumbass there that there isn't really a way to go through the Devilgram with a braincell.

Music: nothing disturbs the reading. The story could seem a bit funnier if the Devilgram had more comedic pieces playing earlier instead of the generic piece, but music is generally fitting.

This one is probably the weakest of the three. I had a difficult time not quitting reading but it's just not my type of humour. It might be much more entertaining for someone who'd enjoy watching MC & co. being ineffective gremlins though.

In conclusion: Diavolo & Satan are quite nice Devilgrams, Diavolo's SSR probably offers more for his fans due to the fact he speaks about photos and memories. Satan's Devilgram is a pleasant read, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth the 100 pulls - if you weren't lucky, you're not missing out much. Solomon is in mh opinion entire skippable.

I liked the first two Devilgrams a lot, the Devilgrams were well made in general in terms of choices, pace and mood, but the premise makes it rather come down to preference more than usual.

A well beloved doctor living in London, Andrew has made quite a name for himself! All of his patients are very happy with his work as he is able to always diagnose them properly and give them the correct medicine - truly a divine blessing in this day and age. He's a cheerful gentleman in his mid to early thirties who always has a gentle smile on his face. He is very fond of children and he does not mind babysitting them whenever someone asks him to do so, making him popular with parents and single mothers especially. During the day time he is filled to the brim with work but he always makes time to have afternoon tea, chat with his servants, or just try to enjoy like in general. A truly kind man in the eyes of many!

Alas though, when darkness overcomes his manor a new side of the good doctor surfaces, a side that no one knows about.

And Andrew plans to keep it that way.

There are many, many things that the doctor desires, craves, needs. But he is stuck in the same place day by day as he is forced to play his role of the savior. Even the good doctor Andrew likes to indulge himself from time to time... But that indulgence has gotten out of hand. By sheer accident Andrew was able to create a special elixir which is able to shift him in to a completely different person. His body is different, his hair is different, everything is different. His psyche however, remains the same.

And Andrew uses this newfound knowlege to his advantage.

Dubbing his new alter ego "Edward Hyde", Andrew is pleased to do what he wants once the sun sets. He messes with the townfolk, he shamelessly flirts and seduces any woman he sees, he picks on the young and the poor, nothing is off the table. This becomes a habbit very quickly as Edward is soon well known among the city. Some flee and flinch at the mere mention of him while others scoff and prepare their fists for a fight. Things continue like this for a while until Andrew notices that whenever he changes in to Edward, his mind is no longer fully his. Even throught the day as he sits in his office he can hear a gruff voice at the back of his mind, telling him to just finish the damn paperwork already. He starts hearing this voice everywhere and he starts to think that he is going mad. The voice taunts him day after day until he finally turns in to Hyde. Only then is he able to feel some inner peace. Andrew soon starts to lose control over himself as the voice grows louder and louder, yelling at him and commanding him to do its bidding. Every day now turns in to a battle as Andrew struggles to get out of bed and face himself in the mirror... But that's the catch. On one fateful morning the reflection he sees is not his own.

It's Hyde's.

The glowing green eyes of Edward Hyde stare back at him as Jekyll does his best to hold his breath in. This can't be real, this can't be happening! By now Andrew is pretty much at war with this new persona he had made and he does not know how to stop this coflict. Both do as they please which contradicts their previous actions, making both Edward and Andrew more then a little suspicious to the public eye. By this point Andrew regrets having ever created Edward but it's too late now. Edward Hyde was a part of him now, a dark part of him which could not be released. The only thing Andrew could do was to keep him at bay even if he was bearly able to do so. This constant pushing and pulling was exhausting to both of them and both were more then ready for a release.

And their release indeed came, but not in the way they thought it would.

It came in the form of love. Love for a sweet darling, a twisted obsession and want over this special little lamb who stumbled in to their lives by sheer accident, at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Andrew and Edward remain greatful still.

The pushing and pulling dies down whenever (y/n) is in the room and their attitudes are completely different from each other. Oh, if only (y/n) knew just what sort of danger awaits...

Andrew Jekyll.

Ever the gentleman, Andrew always places his darlings needs before his own. He worries for his sweetheart constantly as he dotes on them, making sure that they are safe and happy. Did his darling eat today? Did his darling sleep well? He won't ever stop asking these questions whenever he sees them, he just can't help himself! He never shuts up and he always seems to forget what he is trying to say but that's okay, his darling doesn't seem to mind.

Andrew stays gentle like that for a while as he treats his darling like divine royalty which does not go unnoticed by the people around him. He hears his servants whisper many things once he turns his back but he can't help but to blush a little - he may act a little awkward but in reality he really doesn't mind.

Andrew is also willing to bend over backwards and break his spine to get his darling whatever their little heart desires. He has more then enough money then he knows what to do with anyway! He wants jis darling to depend on him, he wants to be darlings only one true protector. He wants to provide for his darling like a good husband would.

Andrew often loses himself in these little fantasies that he gets distracted from his work, cahsing him to mess something up or to accidentaly spill or destroy amything around him. It's a vicious cycle of endless pinning as Andrew just doesn't have the guts to express his feelings, much to Hyde's annoyance and amusement. Cracks will start to form deep within him as Andrew tries to restrain himself more and more whenever he is around his darling. His smiles are not entierly his anymore as he stares his darling down like a piece of meat. Andrew hungers for darlings love and approval which in a way, does make his darling a piece of meat to him.

No matter what he just can never get enough of his darling, ever. The cheerful smiles thrown his way are not enough, and good grief just the mere brush of darlings fingers against his own is enough to send Jekyll in to a panicked frenzy. He loses his composure right there and then as he is forced to look his darling in the eye and do... nothing. He can't do anything he desires, he can't grab his darling by the back of their neck and press those pretty little lips against his own...

He can't caress the love of his life freely in public.

Hell, he can't even touch them without someone making a fuss.

Everything, everyone, is slowly driving him mad.

His love is driving him mad.

Andrew's affection starts to turn conditional, he can only ever shower his darling with gifts if they behave how he wants them to, if they pay enough attention to him, which is of course never quite enough.

His sanity fades as lovesickness kicks in.

His patience is wearing thin. What's taking his darling to love him back already? Hasn't he done everything any ideal lover would do? He has done literally everything, it must be his darling! It can't be his fault! His soft spoken words soon turn sharper then any knife as he imagines that very same weapon in his hands, pressed against darlings pretty little neck. Bruised, bloody and broken, that's how Jekyll wants his darling to be now.

He wants to crush them in his love.

And chances are, he will give in to his temptations.

Edward Hyde.

Tsk, tsk, this man is quite the charmer. A real smooth talker blessed with a deeper voice then his more seemingly more gentle counterpart, Hyde is no stranger to suggestive comments and rough touches. His feelings ignite like flames, quickly and suddenly. They take over his heart and soul, burning him and leaving endless ache and want in its path.

It's a strange feeling. He doesn't know how to feel about it...

When he meets his darling he treats her just how he treats other women. He craves nothing more then darlings body but when darling turns him down Hyde feels intrigued. Playing hard to get, eh?

He is always up for a good challenge.

Hyde stops paying attention to other women and his darling soon becomes his prime time target - Edward cannot move on unless he has his darling. He provokes, taunts and teases, just itching to see darlings reactions to his schemes. Cuss at him, slap him, do anything you want! Just as long as your focus is on him that wolf like grin will never leave his face. He just loves it when his darling turns red, it's so cute he could kiss her. His provoking continues like this for a while until Hyde begins to realize just how some couples act around each other. His softer side starts to show itself and it's something to marvel at really.

Unlike Jekyll, who is soft at the beginning and turns cruel at the end, Hyde is the opposite of that. He doesn't want to just mess with his darling anymore, he wants to actually love and care for her, to actually be in a commited relationship.

His protective side is on full display and anyone with at least a single braincell should be able to get the message.

Hyde often wonders when the Hell did he become so soft all of a sudden. He wants this pain in his chest to stop but the only way it can is if his darling is with him. He doesn't need anyone else... He doesn't want anyone else.

Let's hope Hyde's darling has a strong stomach because he doesn't give a damn who he has to hurt. He and Jekyll are nearly nothing alike but if they share on thing in common, it would be determination.

Edward Hyde has found his prey and he isn't going anywhere without it.

I did my best guys, I hope this was okay! First time making a OC, sorry if it's too similar to the original characters. As I write more stories for them I'll try to build them up more! And feel free to ask any questions if you have them!
