Platonic relationships are just as important as romantic ones. And Wednesday Addams shows 0 interest in romantic relations unless they are first initiated. That girl is on the spectrum in more ways than one.

The popularity of Enid x Wednesday really proves that people always want to see romance in media at any cost. I get the appeal of the goth girlfriend x rainbow girlfriend thing but there's no other reason to ship them. The whole point of their relationship is for Wednesday to make friends for the first time, they don't show any romantic interest in each other. In fact, Wednesday doesn't show romantic interest in anyone at all, she even goes as far as saying that she never wants to get married. She seems uncomfortable whenever the topic of romance is brought up concerning her. Actually, considering Wednesday's behaviour throughout the show and her attitude towards romance, it would be much more reasonable to imagine her as aromantic than to ship her with anyone.

Regardless, it seems like almost everyone who watched the show ships them. That's not exactly a surprise, and given that people have been shipping them since before the show even came out it's pretty clear that the ship isn't based on anything other than aesthetics, but it's crazy to see how far people will go to find romance in media. Especially when Wednesday could so easily be interpreted as aromantic (I think it'd be canon if it wasn't for aphobia and amatonormativity but it is what it is).

It's just kinda sad to see that most people would rather grasp at straws to find some romantic content in media than accept that not all characters need a love interest. Funny how the same people who criticised the show for that terrible love triangle are supporting a ship that has just as little chemistry as Wednesday did with Xavier or Tyler, because apparently Wednesday simply not wanting a romantic relationship and being happy with her friends and family is inconceivable.

First, tired of people using that shit created by a transphobic when heteronormativity exists. Second, Wednesday's case is allonormativity and mononormativity.

From the beginning, Wednesday hasn't been interested in either boy, but everyone keeps pushing her in their direction, not only that, but they keep telling her she has to pick one and try to be normal. At no point does it cross anyone's mind that Wednesday just isn't interested in romance, they think it's just her lack of interest in people in general, which it isn't.

The fact that Wednesday has trouble showing and interpreting emotions helps to force her to try because everyone thinks that's what she has to do, and even though she's rebellious, she still does various things just because people expect it of her [most of the time they're criminal things, but still].

So, she goes out with Tyler because everyone says that's the normal thing to do, even if she doesn't care about him or anyone that way.

Ah, the mononormativity is because the whole narrative revolves around choosing one, and at no point they thought it's possible to choose both.

I’m watching Wednesday (yes I know I’m late to the party shut up) and I just have one question - why the fuck are we doing this god awful love triangle bullshit???

I mean I strongly dislike love triangles at the best of times because they’re never good and never poly, but I mean come on. Like we have:

Guy A, who is super weirdly paternalistic towards Wednesday and gets really mad when she doesn’t listen to him telling her to stay away from someone (because why would she?? she literally doesn’t know you dude???) and is also overly jealous for no god damn reason (again YOU TWO DO NOT KNOW EACH OTHER????)

Guy B, who I actually liked as a character and as a friend for Wednesday until out of the blue he was mad that she was going to a dance with someone else because he “thought they liked each other” and “felt like she was giving him all these signals” which I did not see at all so I have no idea where he got that from???

Then there’s Enid who I know people ship Wednesday with, but who I still think would be better off as friends, though I have to admit they do actually have some modicum of chemistry, unlike the above mentioned guys who she has NO chemistry with whatsoever.

I mean why can’t she just be aro? Like the show starts off with Wednesday insisting she will not be anything like her mother, and I know that’s partially just to establish their conflict and Wednesday wanting to be her own person instead of a carbon copy of her parents, she specifically says she does not want to be part of a whirlwind romance or to become a housewife or mother. Like when are we ever going to let girls just not be interested in those things? When is a girl’s declaration of desire for something different in her life ever going to be taken seriously instead of a base point for her to “learn” and “grow” and accept that actually she does want those things because of course she does, every woman does.

Maybe it’s not that deep but god damn I’m so sick of this trope. Just let her be uninterested in romance instead of forcing her to conform.
