some things i didn’t realize were my ADHD until fairly recently:
(i’m probably combined type btw)
constantly starting new projects and wanting to do loads of things all at once, and then having loads of unfinished ones all over the place because i get tired of them before i can finish them and have another idea that i want to pursue
binge-reading books or whole book series within a few hours/days and not being able to think or do anything else other than that
being suddenly possessed with the urge to clean my entire room every once a month to a few months and not being able to do anything else other than that in that time when i have that urge, and getting incredibly angry and/or anxious when interrupted
being absolutely depressed, anxious, and having SI and/or SH urges/thoughts just because i’m bored, and nothing being able to solve that boredom no matter what i try to do
feeling rejected/unloved/unwanted in a ton of situations because of the way someone worded something
not being able to follow conversations because i keep getting distracted by my trains of thought, and because i can barely understand the person i’m talking to since i can’t hear what they’re saying
forgetting something i was thinking about/told/etc. as soon as i step into a new room/environment
forgetting literally everything, and learning to make lists, checking everything so many times, and thinking again and again about something to make sure that doesn’t happen
always fidgeting in some way, even when not anxious, and needing some sort of stimuli on in the background
my brain racing 90% of the time (the other 10% is when i’m extremely exhausted and my brain is shutting off/has shut off), even when i’m not anxious, and sometimes getting overwhelmed by that
forgetting something from a few seconds ago, and constantly needing to retrace my steps, whether physically or mentally
becoming really attached to someone new incredibly fast, and then feeling nothing (or not as much at least) for them once i’m adjusted to them
and many more things. i might do a part 2 another time, and just keep adding from there. but it’s incredibly astonishing to me that i only recently figured out these things and found answers for it all.

Guys, real question. I have pretty bad sensory issues and auditory processing disorder, but I've been interested in seeing Thunderbolts. Going to see movies is exhausting and I usually end up in sunglasses with earplugs while watching, but sometimes it's worth it for the experience and feeling the sound in your body. Would you recommend it as a worth it or should I just stream it later? I don't have an account tho, so I would be pirating it.

Pro tip!
Shower with earplugs
Not even kidding;
Don't like water in your ears?
Earplugs.
Sounds (derogatory)?
Earplugs.
Showers are so much better when ears are plugged.
I can't speak for those foam plugs, but my loop earplugs are plenty effective for me

Hot tip; if you have auditory sensitivities and it's washing day, fully recommend investing in some noise dampening over-ear headphones (or in ear if you have a preference), and a couple of good audiobooks.
Sometimes the noise can leak through and clash with the book, so I have to turn it off, but the noise cancelling will still reduce the overwhelm from the washing machine.
The audiobook can help distract your mind from the irregular or loud sounds.
Also recommend white noise/ambient soundtracks if that works better.

harsh noise and unpleasant sounds music is actually really good you have to trust me (hands you a playlist that is just several songs of someone screaming like theyre tortured over industrial machinery sounds + harsh saw synth) (does not let you leave until you finish it)

Okay so I’m audio sensitive and my dad keeps watching the atb late into the night
It’s never been a problem before, because the rooms were far apart
And Iike I’ve tried talking to him, and like give him headphones and he doesn’t like that option and just respect me enough for me to get sleep esp since I should be waking up early and unable to since I’m basically crying myself to sleep
Cause even if I have to get the headphones on it’s a fight and it’s taxing night after night
I just want suggestions if you guys have any either blocking the noise or what to do
I’ve tried ASMR and it’s too quiet and I still hear the loud dialogues and surge music so kid of doesn’t help

Question for my fellow sensory issue haver's (autistic or not) :
do y'all find that your sensitivity to sensory input is worse when you've first woken up (like the first hour or so), regardless of how much you slept/when you woke up/etc.?

Finding out I had hypermobile eardrums was crazy
Like, mom took me to the ENT because my ears hate me, and dude's just like "yeah, you got hypermobile eardrums" and we were just????????? What even is that??? I was about 15ish, I think, and this was before we found out what EDS was and that I probably have it, but the regular hypermobility was diagnosed when I was a very small child
ENT dude just told us "yeah, your eardrums move more than they're supposed to, that's why you hear everything so loud" and we had to just add that to my List of Oddities like it wasn't totally insane to find out
This does not mix well with the Sensory Processing Disorder I got free with the Autism, but I can locate exactly where very quiet sounds are coming from, including Bluetooth earbuds when they get lost in the couch

i read a fic recently and let me just say something
sensory tools do not need to be removed to “fully be present”
sensory tools do not mean you are not “living in the moment properly”
sensory tools make the moment tolerable so that you can live in the moment properly
i loved this fic otherwise, but this one comment left a rather sour taste in my mouth.
it was a violent slap to the face as someone sitting here day in and day out with their own headset on to dampen the noise of everyday life.
you can have alhaitham remove his headset. that’s not the issue.
this issue is making him out to be thoughtless and uncaring of others. an abnormality. that robot of a man blocking out the world because everything and everyone is needless and an annoyance.
this reflects right back on us.
alhaitham can fully enjoy an evening out with his friends with his headset. he does not need to take them off. know why? because if he did, it would all just be sound noise sound overwhelm pain get me out of here
again, i dare say, it makes the evening tolerable. so that he can be fully present, mentally and physically.
fuck right off with that ableist mindset
