didn't catch on at first, but then realized after seeing this post that the reason they get so suddenly protective of Omega is because of Order 66. 🥺

they personally witnessed what happened (and continues to happen) to the Jedi -- first Caleb Dume on Kaller, then the dead Jedi on the stretcher on Kamino, then Gungi. they heard Palpatine's message declaring that "the remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated". in the span of a second, they're realizing "oh Omega might have the Force. oh the Jedi have the Force. oh the same Jedi who were slaughtered, even the children, and are still being hunted, even the children?? OH SHIT"

Look at the way he's standing. Side-on, half-turned away, looking over his shoulder at the hologram. Disinterested.

But then Krail makes that nasty little comment about clones.

And look at the way he's immediately facing him head-on in the next panel

Tech coming back but he's kinda knocked out for days recovering so Crosshair sits by his bed and tells him everything he missed.

In "Decommissioned," Trace dresses down the Batch for their intended use of the battle droid intel, telling them, "Our contact needed that information to fight back against the Empire. They're trying to help people and make things better."

And then we are shown Tech's reaction to this.

Makes me think Tech, Mr. Practical "As Well As Earn a Decent Amount of Credits" Tech (I mean, payment is a very important consideration as the squad does need to eat), decided to talk Hunter into giving the data rod to the Martez sisters.

ASAU redesigns!

Hey everyone! We've been thinking about this for a while, and we've decided it would be a good idea to redesign some of our characters so as to be more inclusive and break away from the common WhiteBoi cast of heroes. As with everything we handle in ASAU, we're aiming to treat this change with the respect it deserves. To that end, here are some of the redesigns! Sky and Fae will probably be our most dramatic changes, and we hope you like them!

I thiiiink this qualifies as a screenshot redraw despite the fact that I did a slightly different angle than the actual shot? I just had to draw them. I really do have a weakness for father-daughter duos that consist of "gruff man accidentally adopts a tiny sunshine child" *cough*wondlatrilogy*cough*

PLEASE appreciate the fact that I did soft shading for this. I hate soft shading. I can't fucking paint. I prefer cell shading but I wanted to do something different for this.

Okay, I have a theory about the colour scheme of Crosshair’s outfits throughout the series thus far.

In the first season, as well as a bit of the second, he wears black armour with a green visor thing. Oftentimes, the colour black is associated with evil, which could connect to Crosshair’s loyalty to the evil new government. The colour green also symbolizes new beginnings, just like Crosshair’s new beginning with the Empire away from his family.

In the second season, we occasionally see Crosshair wearing a sort of grey garment. Although I'm not entirely certain if this is accurate, the colour could represent the fact that Crosshair’s loyalty to the Empire is now wavering and he is beginning to question things a bit more than he did before. This is shown when he wakes up in the mornings with zero energy. We can also see it when he temporarily escapes confinement on Mount Tantiss to go warn his family that Hemlock is after Omega, even afterhe was offered to be taken back if he ratted them out. But despite being given that choice to stay loyal to such an evil cause, to turn back to the darkness (black), Crosshair refused. Grey is the colour between black and white, the two colours most commonly associated with good and evil. And because Crosshair chose to not remain loyal to the wrong cause, he begins to move towards a new light.

Finally, we have his outfit in the third season, which is a white version of the clothes he sometimes wore in season two. The colour white often has to do with new beginnings. From what I can tell, this shows that Crosshair is starting anew, he has now fully turned his back on the evil Empire, he's helping Omega escape, and hopefully he'll reunite with his brothers.

This is just what I think, so I could be very, very, very wrong.

Have I talked yet about how important it is to me that Crosshair is queer-coded?

Have I talked about how it doesn’t quite make sense why the character who’s consistently stuck to his family like glue and shown absolute disdain for anyone and everyone outside of his squad is the only one to make the conscious decision to leave them and follow Anakin alone on Skako Minor unless there’s some deeper kind of attraction going on here? Have I talked about how his natural dramatic streak seems to intensify whenever Anakin’s around? How he, who we can assume guards his equipment like it’s treasure, seems so willing to let the Jedi hold it? Almost like he’s deliberately trying to impress him? 

What about how it’s canon that Sister was afraid of how she’d be received by the wider galaxy? Or how important the theme of feeling othered and hate being fostered as a result between groups of people that really aren’t so different is to the Bad Batch? And how Crosshair is by far the biggest example of that? Do I really need to elaborate on the implications of their Kaminoan purity-and-perfection-obsessed creators that live in a city associated with blinding white and treat any nonconformity/diversity as defectiveness?
