Never's End: Shape the Battlefield Experience

Never’s End the tactical RPG game where you bend the elements and shape the battlefield, is coming to Steam Deck and Linux via Windows PC. Thanks to fresh insights from the brilliant development team at Hypersect. Which is working to find its way onto Steam.

You ever get that itch for a release that lets you really mess with the battlefield? Not just move your squad around and trade blows, but reshape the world itself? That’s where Never’s End comes in — an upcoming tactical RPG from the minds at Hypersect that’s gunning to blow the roof off what turn-based combat can be. No plans for a native Linux port, but the game plays great on Steam Deck and Steam OS.

The devs are using their own custom game engine, so a native build isn’t likely — but don’t worry. Never’s End is fully confirmed for Steam Deck, so it will run on Linux via Proton, meaning, we’re still in the game.

Set in a dying world that’s just barely hanging on, Never’s End throws you into the metal skin of an immortal warrior—reborn, reforged, and ready to battle the creeping apocalypse known only as the Never. Hello and good morning/afternoon and evening wherever you are. I hope this isn’t too much of a bother, but can we have a water bender reader from the last air bender series?

Author's Note: It’s not a bother! Though since you didn’t give any specifics, I just went and chose a few Marks to write for as I feel like this is one of those requests where grouping the variants together wouldn’t feel right. Also anon, you’re very lucky because I identify as a water bender and yearn for a hydro vision, so it was relatively easy to think of scenarios.

Characters: No Goggles, Prisoner, Shiesty, Sinister

No Goggles Mark

It should come as no surprise that this boy is a freak. He would be the most down with letting you practice your abilities on him.

Water whips and tentacles, encasing him in ice, trapping him in a bubble, and of course, injuring himself so you can heal him. (The last one is something you never asked for but he always does.)

He loves when you puppeteer him with your bloodbending. He can break free whenever he wants, but he is obsessed with your touch, the way you grab his blood and make him do things.

Prisoner Mark

You tried to heal his injuries, but some wounds can’t be healed even with your advanced healing and bloodbending.

You never use your bending against him, not even for practice. Mark hates sparring with you. There is this looming fear in his heart that he’ll freak out and do some serious damage when you use a whip on him, and you just can’t stomach the idea of using your power to hurt him.

Shiesty Mark

He’ll never admit this in a million years, but he is a little jealous of your bending. He can fly, survive extreme temperatures, and bullets bounce off of him, but his main offensive ability is to…to hit things really, really hard.

You can summon waves, create whips, command ice, control the rain, turn living things into puppets, and heal yourself and others. 

You once caught him imitating your movements in the shower, but you decided to spare his feelings and not comment.

Sinister Mark

He isn’t too keen on getting whipped or frozen, but he still enjoys sparring with you, not that you have an actual chance of winning. But it’s fun to pretend, he always tells you.

It’s always a treat seeing you move on the battlefield. The way you wash away opponents with a deluge of ice and rain will never not be breathtaking to him.

He also has a special place in his heart for when you’re healing “comrades” in the medical bay, for when your brows crease and your nose scrunches up as you bark at him “to be useful or get the Hell out of the way.” You’re so hot when you’re bossy.

Another request, related to the movie: "Alice in Wonderland" This time with the Mad Hatter!!

The point is that the readers are the Mad Hatter. Where they come from, people usually think they're from the path of exaltation, and they don't deny it, but they don't claim to be either. They just continue with what they were doing. Did you forget something? Don't worry! I have it in my hat! Which is weird but useful since they seem to keep a lot of things in their hats. They can even pull out a table and chair when it's time for tea (which is when). Also, like the Cheshire Cat, they're capable of breaking the fourth wall, making light jokes about how someone must be very interested in the characters. Also, every time he tries to say the word "gamer," small bubbles come out of his throat, a clear sign that they're going to censor anything he tries to say about the players (or in general).

"Yes," you said, nodding sagely, and sat down at a table that had most definitely not been there three seconds ago. He narrowed his eyes in delight. You were a walking contradiction—chaotic yet deliberate. Unpredictable, and yet somehow playing from a script he didn’t recognize.

“You know,” you continued casually, lifting your teacup, “I heard someone was watching us. Right now. Maybe they're rooting for you, hm?” You winked directly at a spot just above the sky.

He chuckled. “Then they have excellent taste.”

When you tried to say “gamer,” bubbles puffed from your mouth like champagne foam, floating upward with a faint pop. “Oops. Still censored,” you said, sticking your tongue out and blowing a bubble from the next word.

Aventurine leaned forward with interest. “Fascinating. You seem to play by your own rules.”

You grinned. “No rules. Just tea. And maybe a war against linear storytelling.”

He smirked, leaning closer. “Care to wager your reality against mine?”

“I already did,” you whispered, tipping your hat. “Check your pocket.”

There was a playing card inside. The Fool.

And it was smiling back.

You twirled in place, letting your coat flap dramatically as you adjusted your oversized hat. “I prefer ‘chaotic consultant of candied consequences,’ but sure! That works!”

“Do I know you?” Sampo asked, raising a brow and slipping one hand into his coat, clearly ready for a bribe or a smoke bomb. “Wait—don’t tell me. You’re my new supplier of invisibility confetti and tax evasion tea, right?”

He tilted his head, chuckling. “You’re something else.”

“And you’re something less,” you replied with a wink. “But hey, math is hard. And rules? Overrated. Let’s have tea.”

With a snap of your fingers and a flourish of your hat, a mismatched tea set clattered into place on top of a barrel that absolutely hadn’t been there before. Sampo blinked.

“Where did you even—”

You put a finger to your lips. “Shhh. Logic is taking a nap.”

As you poured tea, a small fish swam up from the pot. “Wrong pot,” you said, tossing it back into your hat. “That was Wednesday’s brew.”

“You are delightfully dangerous,” Sampo said, raising a brow. “Like me, if I were more… hallucinatory.”

You leaned across the table, eyes glittering. “Tell me, ever been kissed by a paradox?”

“…Is that a riddle or a promise?”

“Yes.”

When you tried to explain what a “gamer” was, you hiccupped a bubble that spelled out CENSORED BY THE SYSTEM in sparkling letters before floating away. You stared after it.

“Foul sorcery,” you mumbled.

Sampo smirked. “Let’s keep breaking things, you and I.”

And you smiled, because you already had.

Ratio stared at you for a solid minute without blinking.

“I’m not hallucinating, right?”

You took a long sip of tea, then pulled out a duck from your hat. “No, he is. But I’m real. Mostly. Depending on the narrative device.”

The duck quacked ominously.

Ratio sighed. “Wonderful. Another construct defying Euclidean space and rational thinking. And they’re charming, too.”

You beamed. “Why, thank you. I do practice irrationality with a side of existential flair.”

He rubbed his temple. “You're a disruption to order.”

You leaned in. “You’re addicted to it. We make a good contrast.”

He paused. Then… he smiled. Not sarcastic. Not smug. Just… intrigued.

You tried to say “gamer” and immediately blew a bubble that popped with a squeaky "BOOP."

Ratio blinked. “Did that bubble say boop?”

“Yes. Also it tried to teach me binary once, but it only got to 010101 before it popped. Tragic.”

Ratio crossed his arms, clearly battling between intellectual revulsion and sheer curiosity. “You’re either incredibly dangerous or an enigma masquerading as a punchline.”

“I’m both! And also your tea date.”

You clinked your cup against his flask.

“Welcome to the mad side, Ratio. We have recursive metaphors.”

He took a sip of tea, and for once, didn’t argue.

Gonna Rant for a bit

Okay so I love AUs/Headcanons where the Ninja seriously hold a ton of OP levels when it comes to their Elements.

Like the very few headcanon fics where Nya is capable of Bloodbending. Or @pillowdrawz’s Abaddon AU where Cole can Metalbend and stuff.

The most fascinating ones are the Jay ones with again @pillowdrawz’s Abaddon AU with Jay manipulating the electricity in the brain and @writing-hat’s Bending But Never Breaking (Please do not read this if you are uncomfortable with reading certain topics. This fic is graphic if you’re curious just read the tags before you read the fic) fic where he could control the nerves in his own body. (Which inspired a headcanon for me that Jay can stop his heart for a few seconds then resuscitate himself)

And it fascinates me how creative people can get if they just took the rules, break them or get creative with what they already know about their powers. Cause if Jay can redirect Lightning and Nya can apparently talk to fish or Cole can see which way to go if he focuses on the earth or Zane can allow people some foresight vision (You know that Ice slab that allowed Vex to see where the Ninja were?) if they were pushed to their limits then the rules are endless to what they could possibly do.

So got me thinking about something, the ones with the least headcanons for their powers is Kai and Lloyd.

Kai I can understand, there’s only so much you can do with Fire. I’ve had it that he can redirect Fire or make someone else’s Fire his own. But that’s about as far as I can go with his powers and if the Legacy Shorts are canon then Kai can already do that- (Was it the Legacy Shorts??? Idk I don’t remember anymore) so most of my headcanons of him are just ‘Fire Resistance’ ‘Hair catches on Fire when mad’ Etc Etc.

It’s really hard to come up with a headcanon for Kai. We could borrow some things from Avatar: The Last Airbender, like Kai’s fire possibly turning blue or getting multicolored. Or him being able to briefly control lightning like Nya can control ice. But again…

That’s about as far as you can go…

And so the one with the most potential but the least amount of Headcanons is Lloyd.

And this one is by far understandable.

The most headcanons I’ve seen of Lloyd are usually one-off or taken as suggestions, like Lloyd being able to Heal People and Himself (Saw the Healing Headcanon in a fic but it was just a minor mention.) or Lloyd being able to absorb the Energy of Life which is why he’s mega powerful. (Which is why I find the naming thing extremely silly because people had been making headcanons about Lloyd’s powers that are synonymous with both Life and Energy BEFORE the name reveal and then suddenly no one is okay with the name change when they’ve been using Life and Energy synonymously. Especially since this is like the FOURTH suggestion of the name of Lloyd’s Powers one was a JOKE from the movie because literally no one knows what the hell Lloyd’s powers are)

There’s one Headcanon in a fic called ‘Lloyd’s Guide to Surviving the Merge (and finding new family through it)’ (Forgot who the @ was on Tumblr sorry-) Where Lloyd could ‘feel’ the Ninjas and could possibly feel if they were dead. But not sure if that’s something he could ACTUALLY do in the fic but it’s an interesting concept.

But again, Lloyd despite being the most powerful of the Ninja has the least Headcanons when it comes to his powers and most of the time they’re really one-off or a suggestion to the fandom on how his powers work.

And I get why.

He’s been main charactering the whole series for a while, it makes sense why people don’t want to pay that much attention to him because…

He already gets that much attention out here even unnecessarily let’s be real. (Lloyd Ily you’re my favorite character but they seriously have to let you take a backseat man, ESPECIALLY now that you’re being thrown into traumaland every 5 seconds.)

But secondly…

If we did push his limits and break the rules for him, the same way we do for Nya, Jay, Cole and Zane…uhm…

Maybe it’s best that Lloyd was nerfed in the series because holy fuck. Lloyd would be TERRIFYING.

In fact I like the Headcanon that the Ninja seriously hold back when it comes to their powers because they would be terrifying to think about if they were allowed to be lethal, if they were allowed to fully obliterate their enemies.

I swear the Tournament of Sources would end differently if the Ninja were as lethal as the headcanons.

I’ve had a ton of headcanons about Lloyd’s powers for a while, and a lot of them I don’t share because as much as the concept is terrifying, it makes Lloyd wayy to powerful to exist man. Many of them I just straight up turned him into god at this point.

And it’s not my fault that his powers are INTERESTING but the writers just chop it down to him blasting energy everywhere, I mean canonically in the Wilfilm Era of Ninjago he could create a shield that was both Offensive and Defensive. Especially since he shot himself off the Destiny’s Bounty, created a shield around himself, and threw himself upon Chen’s Anacondrai Cult Army like a fucking canonball.

So as a result I’ve had a ton of Headcanons for Lloyd’s powers. But some of them can be nonsensical cause they make me break the canon a lot to the point Lloyd feels like an OC than a pre-existing character so I don’t show them much. But damn some of these headcanons that DO make sense are terrifying to think about sometimes.

but yea, i think mel is absolutely a firebender avatar. the entire medarda family are firebenders and sevika is an earthbender who can also metalbend. lowkey wanna headcanon her as a lavabender too while i’m at it 🤫

i have several melvika fics in the works including the atla au but idk when i’ll actually finish it because i’ve been obsessed with playing infinity nikki over my winter break and catching up with old friends/family while also preparing myself for the new year 😅

like, it has potential to be a funny idea on its own honestly. zuko doesn't survive taking that hit from azula during their agni kai but he's agni's specialist little guy so he just decides to let him do a round two. he just also has no control over where he'll end up, or who he'll be. he does at least, deign to tell the avatar about this arrangement so they spend all their free time after the war trying to find zuko.

(agni said he would make sure it was obvious. they're not sure what he meant by that.)

none of them think to look in si wong desert. they're all sick of si wong desert. this is a mistake, because that's where zuko is. just this extremely weird kid with eerie out of place gold eyes and a massive red birthmark on the left half of his face. sometimes he just knows things he has no business of knowing. he's raised by his uncle because his dad wants nothing to do with him, and his mom died in childbirth. when his uncle dies, he decides to leave the desert at thirteen and make the trek to ba sing se.

he doesn't know why. he just really wants to go there for some reason.

meanwhile, the gaang is just starting to wonder if agni lied to them... when katara runs into a kid with gold eyes and a huge birthmark and is just like. holy shit. now i know what agni meant by making it obvious. she has to go and find everyone right this second. she doesn't even think about it. she just straight up kidnaps the kid.

Hello I was just recently watching avatar the last Airbender and it got me thinking thinking, what if there was an avatar in Genshin impact, I thought it might make sense because all of the elements in Genshin impact are ones that benders from avatar are capable of using. So I was thinking what if the avatar was the reader and she was born in Fontaine and when she was born it put Fontaine into a bit of an excited uproar because it had been a long time since the previous avatar passed away, and I was wondering, how would the avatar play into the Fontaine archon quest, would she be able to ask the past avatar's for guidance, and how would her upbringing from childhood be? Would she be kept under protection as she learned to control the elements or would she be granted a normal childhood and begin training when she becomes a teenager. I'm thinking about writing a story about it and I have some fanmade Avatar's you could use, the information is under the post, The New Avatar basic information, but if you're not comfortable with writing this that's completely alright and I wish you the best ☺️.

It had been decades since the previous Avatar had passed, and Fontaine, a nation deeply tied to the ideals of balance and justice, eagerly anticipated your arrival. While many in Teyvat respected the Archons, the Avatar’s unique connection to all elements made them a symbol of unity and guidance—a bridge between the mortal and elemental realms.

You, the Avatar, were raised in an environment that sought to balance reverence and normalcy. Neuvillette, the Chief Justice of Fontaine, took a particular interest in your upbringing. His composed demeanor and impartial wisdom made him a guiding figure in your life. Lady Furina, on the other hand, was equal parts intrigued and dramatic about your existence, often making grandiose speeches about how Fontaine would thrive under your guidance.

From the moment you could walk, your life was a mixture of wonder and responsibility. Tutors, scholars, and elemental masters visited to help you understand the basics of bending each element. Despite this structured upbringing, your caretakers ensured you had a semblance of a normal childhood, often allowing you to explore Fontaine's vibrant courts and interact with its eccentric citizens.

You have already mastered water/hydrobending and were progressing in earth(dendro?)bending under the guidance of skilled mentors. You often sought the wisdom of past Avatars, their spirits offering guidance during moments of doubt. They spoke in riddles and fragmented memories, but their insights were invaluable.

The Court of Fontaine was in turmoil when you encountered the Traveler. The Oratrice was malfunctioning, and the nation’s belief in its justice system wavered. Furina, always quick to dramatize, saw your presence as a boon.

“You, Avatar! You must be the one to resolve this crisis,” she declared, gesturing grandly in the courtroom.

You crossed your arms, exhaling softly. “With all due respect, Lady Furina, I’m not here to replace the Oratrice. My duty is to maintain balance, not dictate it.”

Neuvillette nodded approvingly. “Wise words, Avatar. Balance is indeed key. Perhaps your perspective will aid us in uncovering the truth.”

You joined the Traveler and Paimon in their investigation, using your unique bending abilities to aid the group. Waterbending proved invaluable for navigating Fontaine’s aquatic landscapes, while earthbending helped uncover hidden clues. As you journeyed, you shared stories with the Traveler about your past and your struggle to balance the expectations placed upon you.

In return, they shared their own experiences of being thrust into a role of immense responsibility. A bond of understanding formed, and the group worked tirelessly to uncover the mysteries plaguing Fontaine.

During moments of doubt, you sought the guidance of past Avatars in the spirit realm. When a revelation about the Oratrice’s origins shook your confidence, you meditated, calling upon the wisdom of your predecessors.

One spirit, the Avatar who had mastered Pyro centuries ago, appeared beside you. Their voice was warm, yet firm. “You are not here to be perfect. You are here to learn. Fontaine’s struggles are not just yours to bear—they belong to its people as well.”

Another spirit, the Avatar who had lived in Mondstadt, added, “Trust those around you. They may not share your power, but their perspectives will enrich your journey.”

Their words renewed your resolve, and you returned to the material world with clarity.

When the crisis in Fontaine reached its climax, you stood side by side with the Traveler, Paimon, and the citizens of Fontaine. Your mastery of multiple elements allowed you to bridge gaps—both literally and figuratively. i’ve literally never talked about this on here but this quarter I’ve been taking a Harry Potter focused english lit class (truly a win for random uni english courses everywhere ) and today is the last day :( I’m gonna miss everything about that class but mostly the Professor.

if atla had the olympics do you think thered be bending olympics and regular olympics?

Good question! I don't think there would be separate Olympics, but I think bending-based sports would be baked into the regular Olympics. I imagine both bending-based sports and sports that don't involve bending are equally as popular! Would probending itself be an Olympic sport? I mean, probably!

It's definitely interesting to think about non-combat sports that might involve all four bending disciplines too. I feel like those would be a thing.
