The thing about National Treasure, is that the villain has always had a cultural tie to the historic aggressors from whom the treasure was hidden.
In the first film, Ian was British and the treasure had been hidden by the Founding Fathers to keep the British out.
In Book of Secrets, Mitch was a white man from the South and it had been the confederacy who were looking for the gold.
But in Edge of History, they appeared to have broken this pattern. Billy is British while the historic bad guys for the Maya, Inca, and Aztecs were the Spanish Conquistadors.
However (series spoilers under the cut)
in episode 9 it was revealed that Agent Hendricks was the mastermind Salazar.
The actor who plays Hendricks is Armando Riesco and he's Puerto Rican.
While I don't know if Riesco has any Indigenous ancestry, I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility to assume that Salazar's lineage could just be Spanish.
Thus, the pattern has been maintained throughout the franchise afterall!

Cultivating silence in your daily activities
This post shares some ways you can build more silence into your daily living.
In the video below I ask what is your relationship with silence? I talk about some of the benefits of it and I invite you to cultivate more silence in your life. So how can you do this? A good starting point is to see how long you can remain silent for, meaning how long can you sit with no thoughts, no activity, no doing? It may sound simple, but trying to be in a state of pure silence for even…

ps: spoiler alert cause I was spoilt — my own fault. So, to tell this review, I’d need to simply just blurt everything out. Spoilers ahead. I won’t hide this review in all, cause while I tell all, there zero details. Also, kindle dictated for how long I’d read, btw — makes me wonder if replacing the battery is the way to go, or simply buying newer device would be the best option. I ask for feedback on this, my fellow bookworms.
Okay, then, this is Vital Secrets series (bundle of book 1-3, but as you can tell, reviews will be separate!) is my first read for 2024 (finished today, Jan 2, 2pm sharp), picked this set at random after seeing cover with dude holding a gun and some words like, crime, thriller, suspense, detective work etc attached to it. All that, set my mindset for CSI, NCIS; set the standards too high, but the coincidences were piling up too hard and too fast, I just followed the letters on the e-page.
This book was filled with coincidences and breakthroughs with actual connections lacking dead-ends you ought to find in such genres, everyone was too smart and too sharp to make mistakes or look elsewhere; the whole introduction of too many characters without a second thought to carefully build them, or even tell us something more than a name within the first paragraphs instead of maybe 5 chapters away, really grind me the wrong way enough to stop and write this down. Just a tiny bit of criticism. I have come to like a few of them and side-eyeing Paula character hard. RIP.
Falling in love for the first time is hard when you’re an intelligent psychopath. Falling in love at first sight with a brand new FBI profiler (Nathan, just leaving it here cause last page sneak peek into the next volume mentioned his name, so…) when you’re an intelligence young woman, it’s good. This book centers in the lives — heavily — of both Bella and Mikel. Mikel being the psychopath you can immediately tell is the killer, Bella being the unfortunate object of Mikel’s Cupid arrow.
You know it, it’s fast paced enough where you’re barely registering the time span of things. And a lot of things happen. A lot. Death of loved ones, degenerates (as the book called), death of more loved ones, blossoming young minds going missing and coming back lobotomized in some way, mind control, nanotechnology. Relationships getting serious. Weddings. Pregnancies. Killings. Rapes. Killings. New relationships once again. It goes on, until the bad guy lands in a comma. How he survives and with their mind intact, it was never answered. Just happened. You accept it. Then, you accept some more stuff that seems impossible and BOOM. A trail of deaths on two shoulders. A strong-minded woman that unfortunately just couldn’t make it. And Thunder just lighting the bullseyes of a psychopath. The End.
There’s a book 2, so won’t delve too deep into this review. Once the bundle 1-3 books are done, this review will be uploaded to that book. If you’re just passing by, don’t worry. This is a message for the Goodreads folks. A copy-pasta, that might get my audiences from different places confused, but it’s new year, new me, less filter, less mindfulness. Really in a hurry to keep reading. Bye.

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
#seeing some discourse and im not saying lucy grey didnt know#im saying she never dropped the kind of hints that she knew like she did in the movie#or if she did snow isnt worried about them until he very suddenly is consumed by them#snow is not concerned about whether or not she believed him. of course she did! hes snow!#but then shes gone…. for a while……#and its the sudden immediate drastic unravelling that comes across so clearly in the book#that i knew wouldn’t translate to screen yet still cant help but miss#the hunger games#coriolanus snow#tbosas#lucy gray baird#not a crime or anything just a note that i cannot stop thinking about#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#this is all from memory of reading it quite a while ago. so maybe 3 pages is an exaggeration#but i remember it happening VERY quickly and without much external cause#like we as the reader have no indication as to whether shes nearby or not.#snow has no idea either. he just SUSPECTS. and his suspicion breeds the hatred that has been bubbling inside him all this time#he hates how she undoes him. he hates that he WOULD run away with her if shed let him keep his secrets#and he HATES more than anything that she makes him WANT to tell his secrets#he wants to be vulnerable and reveal the ugly nasty parts about himself and still be loved#but he does not let himself and it is everyone’s downfall#he chooses cruelty bc it is easy and familiar and makes him feel more powerful than the vulnerable give and take that real love requires

Here's your reminder that National Treasure: Book of Secrets takes place in part over Easter, so you have a good excuse to watch it, this weekend!
Imagine being a whole adult and getting so heated over a child's argument. Embarrassing.
