I love this image of them facing each other, and there’s just … so much that’s true and untrue in his statement.
Marthe is correct: Francis ran off with her girlfriend and the Dame de Doubtance was more than okay with it.
Now, however, he’s been stopped from returning to Russia/Güzel BY MARTHE, so he sure doesn’t have her anymore! Neither sibling does.
Güzel had him - he was the jewel in her jewel box. He chose to go with her in order to ensure the PiF crew’s safety. He didn’t know if he would survive when he made that promise, and he didn’t want to survive. He only started sleeping with her after being faced with the fact that she was harming someone else in his place. He didn’t love her, he’s in love with someone else, and she sent him Gabriel’s dead body in a sarcophagus.
It’s not like Marthe knows the details of that. It’s been nearly four years. He still stole her girlfriend, right after the turning point in their relationship as siblings, right after she helped him heal with shared poetry.
They’re no jewel and jewel box, but you know whose relationship is also messed up? Marthe and Jerott’s. <3
As Marthe points out soon, she has Jerott! She completed the dysfunctional swap, and they’re still married … so does she arguably have more than Francis has?
Speaking of marriage, Francis is currently married to the person he’s in love with who loves him back and is perfect for him and — yeah okay this whole book is about how much of a mess that is. But still.
AND TRULY. From Marthe’s perspective, her little brother has always had all she does not, for the arbitrary reasons of legitimacy (lol) and gender. She has known this her entire life. And the reader learns that her life will end in place of his, the catalyst to his happiness and meaningful future. This exchange is about Güzel, but even discounting her, as complicated and traumatic as his own life has been, Francis’s statement is laughable.
“the palms of his hands, yielding and empty” … Is there nothing in the cup for me? 😭
He says this mere seconds after kissing her husband and making him bluescreen. Francis….
And as always, I may be wrong and I’m sure there’s even more …

I love your art so much especially your character designs! They’re so amazing! I was wondering What are your favorite pens on procreate and do have any tips for anyone who want to be a character designer or storyboard artist?
Thank you for anything answer you’ll give
Hi!! + thank you so much!!
So the main default brushes I like to use are gesinski ink (for sharper and smaller lines) and technical ink or flat brush for coloring
Lately though I’ve been obsessed with these custom colored pencil brushes I’ll add a link: https://fatimamandouh.gumroad.com/l/sdcbd
For tips eeHm,
So for character design lately I’ve gotten more interest in pushing shapes and adding variety to my designs
First and foremost I HIGHLY recommend doing research if you plan to add something specific to a design that’s maybe pulling something from real life; consulting people on behalf of what you may be pulling from help too and can give you a sort of direction of what to add and what not to add (amount of research depends on how much you already know; if you’re not sure of something definitely look into it)
Watching movies helps too (I found myself in a Don Bluth/ Classic Disney rabbit hole recently and I’ve gotten obsessed)
Gesture drawings, body types, & uniqueness in shape in size are all important as well and it’s also super fun! Getting a bit wacky with it wouldn’t hurt
And storyboarding hrmm
I’m not much of an expert in that department (though I do like doing it to practice) but I have learned that when it comes to constructing a scene don’t be bothered adding so much detail, you just need enough to get your point across
Also!! Learn about cinematography and things like camera angles and character acting
The more you know about that stuff the stronger your storytelling is (I would very much like to get better at it haha)

i really would like to ask how you approach the head/face from different angles? i find myself worrying too much about staying on-model that it doesn't look natural and i can't grasp how the character would look in any direction other than the 3/4 angle because that's the angle i default to, so profiles especially scare me.
a lot of the characters i draw have very unique noses that might not have the simple button end which also makes me nervous because i'm afraid the nose will look completely different at another angle.
i ask you specifically because you do very well with unique angles as well as squash and stretch. i envy your art style and fluidity if i'm being brutally honest right now lol
Well unfortunately for you, I never stay on model LMAO. I'm flattered that you think so highly of my work, but don't sell yourself short! You can do it!
I think I answered a similar ask a while back about consistency where I suggested doing some model sheets and character turn arounds but I can’t seem to dig it up. The point was to try googling "character model sheets" and see how the pros ground their designs!
In regards to your question, I’m using Noble Girl as an example of the whole head. Her face is really round in contrast to North’s that’ll come later. It can be simplified to a shape that’s easier to rotate in space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't be intimidated by the nose, it's one of your most useful tools to angle the face! I cracked the code with drawing North by starting with his nose and eyebrow ridge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d say take some time to do some studies of your characters’ noses! It’ll really help down the line.
And honestly, if something's not looking right even if it's structured "correctly"... Just cheat it dawg, life's too short LMAO. If it looks right then it is right.
Hope this helps!

Bill Hader on Barry, anxiety and body image
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You should be hard on the work,” he notes. “It’s very good to write it and get all the emotions out, all the feelings, the story, the big, inspired version of it, and then it’s very good to put it away. Because you think, when it’s finished, that you’re a genius. You got to wait for a little bit, a couple of weeks, or a month – you bring it back out and you go, ‘Who the f*** wrote this, this is terrible.’ And that’s a very important part of the process, you know, to be hard on the material.
“But then,” he continues, “there’s also a thing that I just have naturally, which is a big self-criticism that can be disruptive in your personal life, that is being hard on yourself, and doesn’t really yield any results. It’s just a cycle of self-criticism that doesn’t yield anything.”

Before your art gained more traction, how did you deal with not having much interaction/many views of your art? I understand that art isn't just for an audience, but it can be frustrating when only a few people see something you've worked on!
Never really had that problem to be honest when I started posting my art to tumblr most of it was getting like 40 to 500 notes which I was ecstatic about bc it definitely didn't deserve that but it was also 2017/2018 and easier to get notes - if you want some advice tho on how to get more notes on your art - play to bigger fandoms and try to be funny/creative/funny and creative - your trying to get people to reblog your art which is way harder now then it used to be but from my experience people are more likely to reblog art if its funny or part of an interesting au

Beautiful thing happened today: the guy doing headshots had these brilliant nautical tattoos and I, a known ship nerd, pointed them out and said I thought they were brilliant. And he launched into how for 12 years he worked on a tall ship at one point as the captain. He got all excited telling me about it and asked if I was working on any ships. I said no, but I’d love to, have wanted to ever since I was a kid; he asks if I know so-and-so, to call him and even just being a passenger will get you credit with skippers. And at this point I’m grinning and laughing and I really want to talk more about sailing and historical stuff with this guy. He goes “Right tilt your head this way, you wanna look warm and approachable yet tough for any skippers!” Probably the best headshots I’ll ever get, those smiles were sincere. Then he recommended me his favourite book - its 700 pages and it’s 300 years of historical fiction called “We, The Drowned” which I’m checking out asap because it sounds brilliant

okay i did it!! i bought bg3 (been playing it nonstop since yesterday) and i suck at it. it’s on the easiest difficulty and i still suck. oh and i’m pretty sure astarion doesn’t like me very much. i don’t suppose you’d have any tips for me ?? pretty please <333
oh nooo!!! i mean hell yes to buying the game but oh no as for thinking you suck!! i promise you certainly don't. no one has a perfect first playthrough (not even the voice actors involved in the game... i'm looking at you, neil.)
my biggest tip with astarion is he's a chaos gremlin. the funniest and most chaotic options usually gain your approval with him. however, the biggest things that will influence you romancing him will be key scenes to his quest specifically! so once he starts approaching you about.... things, or reveals more about himself, just be kind to him <3 don't treat him like a monster, respect him and his autonomy, etc etc.
as for actual game play, try to have fun with it! if you really screw something up and it bothers you, don't be afraid to save scum. i always joke that f5 and f8 are my most powerful spells lol. the game is a lot more enjoyable if you lean into the RP'ing aspect and really focus on 'what would my character do?'
(if all else fails, at this point, there are romance and approval guides online. i didn't seek them out initially because i wanted to see what would happen and just got lucky that i was certainly playing for the bit and that that aligned with astarion so often. and if you have any specific issues or questions i'm always down to offer my advice although idk how helpful i am haha)

i don't trust anyone that had a good time in middle school. it's a hellish first encounter of what's on the other side of childhood and designed to be a period of adjustment; it's not supposed to be comfortable. if you enjoyed being in seventh grade something is fundamentally wrong with you, and i'm like an animal sensing another animal has rabies or something. don't come any closer or i'll attack.

I'm looking for a deep conditioner and detangler online and it's really funny (read: shut up) how a lot of the detangler sprays are labeled for kids and I don't know if that means I shouldn't use it because it's for child hair or if I'm just being condescended to like "oh wook at the widdle baby who can't keep her hair bwushed!"

sometimes i think about what if morgana had agravaine manipulate arthur into doing good for the magic folk? that would serve magic-folk's purpose right? but that will make the magic-folk love arthur and not her. So i think that by making arthur embittered to magic, morgana made sure that the magic-folk would have no choice but to turn to her alone and join her cause. She would be the symbol of their oppression and become their champion. Not only magicfolk but also other marginalized groups or outcast such as bandits or rival kingdoms.
She unknowingly killed two birds with one stone there, because by doing so, she was working against merlin, who had no grand plan other than to "slightly nudge arthur to be nicer to people and hopefully magic."
ngl that's such a good destabilization tactic by morgana. It’s pretty smart too. the viability and the logistics of it all is actually astounding. and she always succeeded, because her message had been accepted by many of her people long before she executed the big takeovers.
This is why Merlin needed to step up his game against well trained , well-educated, well-connected destabilizers like her lol. He can't just act like a dumb shield wall all the freakin time. (by dumb im not meaning "not smart" more like "taking the hurt on his own stoically without question").
That's why Merlin needed more allies, more propaganda, and just more political and societal maneuvering to further his own message and causes. Government change isn't a one-man act gdi. Morgana understood this very very well, but Merlin was too idealistic/ill-prepared/overworked/isolated to even consider it.
Merlin was trained to believe that he can do everything on his own, while his rival is out there, who from nothing but sheer will, drive and honesty, was already amassing an army, forging powerful alliances, a complicated intelligence network, and loyal followers.
And look he still ended up the loser even when he killed her eventually.

maybe it’s stupid but I can't read any more of that I just cannot fucking stand to see wwx disrespected like this. literally jyl says in her VERY first scene that wwx takes things seriously that are important, and she’s right!!! jc thinks he’s an immature and self-centered troublemaker who wants to play the hero, and hordes of fans for some reason agree with him, but wwx being a little goofy as a teenager and breaking some rules (which jc ALSO broke) does not translate to him being a chronically unreliable and careless asshole who can’t be trusted to look after himself or act as an adult, and you only have to watch the show and see how wwx makes his decisions to understand that jc is wrong about him and always was, as influenced by his mother and his own inferiority complex and grief! treat wwx like the capable and responsible adult he is in canon or I’ll invent new forms of violence my GOD
