ok so i've been thinking about it and i think i've finally figured out why, out of all the canon naruto ships, n/h is the only one i can't find anything at all to really get behind outside of the weird shit i come up with in my head specifically to make it work

s/i is an easy one; lavender marriage and/or sai is not a cis guy. s/s could've worked in canon for real if it had been done better (and if sasuke had ever shown any interest in women ever at any point in time) but they've at least got the black-and-pink aesthetic going for them and i'm a fan of that if nothing else

but with n/h i just. keep getting stuck. i couldn't figure out what it was but i think i just got it: hinata is too normal. i know i've talked about how she could've been written better before, but with the canon version we actually have, she's... well she's a shounen love interest. and that could work fine except.

naruto has a Type. and that type is batshit crazy. his first three crushes were sakura, haku, and sasuke. all absolute nightmares in their own right. when gaara stopped being mentally unstable naruto lost interest. his type is completely insane and likely to try to kill him and hinata is neither of those things.

tldr n/h could've worked if hinata was a serial killer

I'm still (slowly) plugging away at my "Embrace the Silence" WIP. (Which has a dozen titles, depending on what song I'm listening to at the given moment.) Basics: Canon divergence fic exploring the ramifications of Baz successfully stealing Simon's voice in fifth year.

Side note: I got to see the touring company of Hamilton on Friday, and this whole setup gives me serious A. Burr/A. Ham vibes. But I could be projecting XD

The one thing, perhaps, we both agree on. “What if I’m simply keeping my enemies close,” I said, doing my best to stretch my leg out in the cramped backseat. “And how exactly did you determine the Mage’s culpability in my kidnapping?” She shrugged, meeting my eyes briefly in the rearview mirror. “Why wouldn’t it be him. He’s capable of anything.” So are we.

I promise/hope really hard my fic won't be all angst, all the time. Levity happens when I'm able to spend time writing, getting into character, writing daily - things I'm not quite able to do yet. (Probably because I'm on Tumblr and Discord too much. It's basically the trolley problem on a less life-threatening scale.) So for now, it's angst, relatively pure and uncut.

So you know how people say that Danny is more powerful than Vlad because he died slowly to prolonged exposure while Danny died in an instant? Well you also know that most people say ghosts form when someone dies around ambient ectoplasm and usually the more ectoplasm the more powerful?

Well what if the reason Danny is more powerful is because he died instantly to the force of the entire ghost zone being forcibly shoved into his body. Unlike Vlad, Danny died to a fully functioning ghost portal that had a shit load of ectoplasm running through it at all times. Vlad had a small (but probably condensed) amount of ectoplasm shoved into every orifice of his body that they tried to remove.

Danny could be considered a perfect halfa- he was dead and alive at the same time, he was in the ghost zone and was in the human world at the same time too. Vlad was partly on both accounts.

But that's just my thoughts on the whole thing- I want to talk about Dani but she's... a bit harder to explain.

Freeze plot for the wip game this week please!

Back to Nothing because vod is easy to write about and I need to finish this up so I can make my lunch (which I should have done like an hour ago instead of this but mistakes were made).

Nothing is human. Technically.

Nothing doesn't look all that human, especially when vod is doing magic. Then, stars gleam in vod's eyes and midnight blue that's almost black wraps like a blanket around vod's shoulders, not that you can necessarily tell, because vod is always hard to spot but especially when vod does magic.

But even when vod isn't, people's eyes just miss vod. Well, they do in the good places. In the empty places. The city is different. When all the streetlights are on, then vod does stand out a bit.

It's odd for a kid so young to have so many tattoos. I'm not sure exactly what they look like, but vod has two full sleeves. Vod used to run around in nothing but a diaper when vod was very little, and then nothing but shorts. But now vod prefers to be covered. Less looks that way.

Puffer coats haven't been invented yet, but if vod got vod's hands on one vod would never take it off.
