(Testifying for Harry when the Ministry tries to have him expelled)
Y/N; “May I approach the bitch?”
Fudge; “What did you say?”
Y/N; “I said “May I approach the bench”, what did you think I said?”

what do you think would have happened to the plot if harry defeated voldemort in gof? what would happen to death eaters? and the ministry? and do you think harry would be seen as a saviour in 5th year instead of a liar like in the original book?
What Happens to the Death Eaters?
Nothing.
Most of them remain imprisoned without Voldemort to release them. They're still waiting for the any day now day when he will return and they will have glorious revolution once again.
Karkoroff probably flees back to Durmstrang but this time there's no Voldemort to kill him horribly for trying to run. Peter probably manages to survive the encounter with Harry by running away and is hiding as a common rat again and probably trying to become someone's pet (he had it pretty good at the Weasleys). Snape is still a Hogwarts professor. Lucius is still living the high life having pretended he was imperiused the whole time. Given Barty was caught when Harry returned and confronted him, and I don't see that changing, Barty is still probably sentenced to death by dementor kiss.
The Ministry
This one's a bit of a pickle.
The question is does Cedric still die?
If Cedric lived, then there's no smear campaign. Fudge is not having his position threatened by the Dark Lord having possibly returned, instead, Crouch shot himself in the foot and bled out in the street. Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory were just kidnapped by the Death Eater son Barty Crouch had freed from prison, who also killed Barty Sr., and who tried to resurrect the Dark Lord. Given that this tournament was Fudge's baby and Fudge had nothing to do with it (versus Voldemort returning meaning Fudge has to deal with it/quell panic of the people) means Fudge can pin it all on dead Barty with delight and show how great he is by comparison.
Fudge doesn't love Cedric and Harry insisting "the Dark Lord totally came back for five minutes off screen but don't worry he's dead for real again" but he's choosing not to pay attention to that and says "shut up boys" when they try to talk about it.
If Cedric died then we have a problem because Harry doesn't look good. Here Harry's transported to the stage with a dead Cedric, claiming the cup was secretly a portkey where the Dark Lord who's been dead for ten years resurrected himself, but don't worry because Harry killed him for good again this time so you won't find any evidence of this having happened.
With that much money on the line, with Harry having a history of incidents from previous years, with the dead body hanging out, and the excuse being "I swear the Dark Lord rose from the dead, stabbed Cedric, then immediately died again!" It's looking like Harry murdered Cedric or, if being very kind to him, Harry had some kind of an episode in the trauma of having witnessed Cedric dying somehow.
There's no smear campaign, as Harry isn't claiming the Dark Lord is back (he's dead again remember), so no one wants to publicize that Harry may have probably did murder Cedric. Cedric's father, of course, blames Harry as he did canonically at the time and probably presses for a murder trial but I imagine he's told to shut it because Harry's the boy who lived and you can't just go accusing him of murder (even when he probably certainly did it).
Is Harry Viewed as a Savior
Once again, depends who you ask.
The Order and Harry's close friends, as well as Dumbledore, very much believe that Harry fought Voldemort again and killed him off screen in ten minutes. Harry's done this every year he's been at Hogwarts, it's nothing new, and nice that he's dead for real this time (even though he was dead for real last time too).
However, everyone else I imagine is on the fence with many thinking he killed Cedric, that this Dark Lord thing certainly never happened, and not wanting to believe it or think about it or else choosing carefully not to say it.

*When Harry "dies" he recieves a third option, which is go back in time and he does that. And when is time for old Voldy to return-* Harry: Cedric, I would love if you could win this shit, but I have to take this fucking thing alone or else you'll die. I'm not even kidding. Been there, done that and it wasn't fun for either of us. Cedric: Cedric: So, you used a Time Turner? Harry: Nah, I died at 17 and recieved 3 options; move on, go back to the moment I died or go back in time...I chose go back in time, sounded more fun and I could fix some shit up. Cedric: Cedric: Okay, I'll just send the red sparks for me then...Good luck, I guess? Harry: I'll need that. *In the graveyard, after Voldy has a body* Harry: *Stuns every Death Eater* Harry: It's just me and you now, Tommy. Voldemort: What the actual fuck? How did you break free?! Harry: That's something that should be between me and Merlin. Harry: And oh, btw? I know about the Horcruxes and I destroyed almost all of them. Harry, putting his own wand on his head: Avada Kedavra. Voldemort: Voldemort, to Harry: Potter? Voldemort, to his Death Eaters: What the fuck just happened? And why are you all useless bitches still stunned if he just committed suicide?! Harry: Because I'm not dead, motherkiller! Voldemort: What the fuck?! Harry: Now you can be killed, but for now I'm just gonna stun you and go back to Hogwarts with you and your little fucked up minions. We'll see from there. *Back to Hogwarts* Harry: I'm back with a few gifts, motherfuckers! The students: The professors: The parents: Fudge: Are those —? Harry, pointing to the DEs: Death Eaters, yes. Harry, pointing to Voldemort: And that's Tommy. Harry, pointing to Pettigrew: Oh and that's the traitor, the one who really got my parents murdered by Tommy, Peter Pettigrew. Fudge: Tommy? Harry: Yeah. Harry, seeing everyone's confusion: Oh, sorry, my bad! I forgot that not everyone knows Voldemort's real name... Harry, pointing to Voldemort: That's Voldemort. Everyone: *Screaming, panicking, fainting, throwing up* Harry: Oh, come on! He's fucking stunned and I could just kill him right now infront of everyone if that makes you all feel better! Fudge: Please, do that. I, as Minister of Magic, give Harry Potter a special permission to use a Unforgivable Curse to kill the one know as Lord V-Voldemort. Harry: Fine. Harry, pointing his wand to Voldemort: I guess it's bye forever now, Tommy. See you never. Avada Kedavra. Everyone: *Relief sighs* Moody/Crouch Jr: NOOOOOO! MY MASTER! Harry: Oh, forgot about you, honestly. That's not Alastor Moody, guys! That's actually Barty Crouch Jr on Polyjuice! Snape: And how do you know that? Harry: I just know. If you don't believe me you can wait until the effect of the potion is gone. Snape: Oh, we will. Harry: Okay, but can I please go to sleep then? I'm fucking tired. Dumbledore: Of course you can, my boy. Harry: Please, grandpa Dumbles, I'm not biologically yours, so don't call me that. Dumbledore: Snape: McGonagall: Flitwick: Sprout: Hermione: *facepalms* Hermione, grabbing Harry: Ron and I will take Harry away now, everyone! He's clearly exhausted... *Gryffindor common room, after Ron & Hermione dropped Harry into the boys dormitory* Ron: Hermione? Hermione: Uh? Ron: Did Harry really called Dumbledore 'Grandpa Dumbles' and got away with it? Hermione: Pretty much, yeah.

i dont think people truly deep just how much snape was on thin ice in 'the goblet of fire'. that man was unknowingly telling voldemort's most loyal supporter to his face that he was 100% team dumbledore. big yikes. and most of snape's significant moments in this book are him being team dumbledore (when he's not being a general asshole as per usual, or acting wildly out of character when insulting hermione because let's be real, snape bullies the kids in general but it is very unusual for him to attack someone's physical appearance, he never ever does this in any other book).
in the scene after harry's name is called, his primary source for his animosity towards harry is because he's making dumbledore look bad. the other schools think dumbledore is cheating, giving hogwarts twice a chance to win and using an underage student to do so.
when harry sees snape in the pensive, unbeknownst to us unless you have already read all the books, he's relaying crucial info to dumbledore about how the dark mark is returning and how igor karkaroff is *this* close to doing a runner.
when he comes across 'mad eye moody' and the aforementioned wizard implies dumbledore doesn't trust him, snape is insulted and outraged. moreover, confirms to this death eater's face that not only is he dumbledore's man, but ashamed of ever being a death eater, given how much he wants to get rid of those 'spots'. very damning.
and of course, when voldemort does return, snape exposes that he used to be a death eater to everyone in the room. which implies that dumbledore's vouching in the ministry of magic must have stayed within the ministry walls because no one, apart from dumbledore and harry knew. so he exposes his shameful past in front of molly, ron, harry, sirius, mcgonagall and of course cornelius fudge. all to defend dumbledore.
and considering most of snape's contention with dumbledore comes from his perception that dumbledore does not trust him, it is telling just how far he'll go to prove his loyalty. he was probably very angry to hear that 'mad eye moody' was coming to hogwarts in the first place. i expect he may have thought that dumbledore had more than one reason to bring an auror famous for rounding up dark wizards, particularly death eaters into the school where one of the members of the faculty was an ex death eater. this ties into what i said above about the harry and the egg falling down the stairs scene.
so, when voldemort said he wanted to kill the person he believed wholeheartedly had left him forever he meant it.
and i for one, am very grateful that harry tells voldemort in 'the deathly hallows' that he was truly an idiot for ever thinking snape would come back to him. and that doesn't even touch snape's main motivations for switching sides either.

I continued listening to the Order of the Phoenix audiobook and realized I had forgotten one very important detail.
So we know Bill Weasley is William and Charlie Weasley is Charles but Percy Weasley... is Percy.
Example from the book - Cornelius Fudge: "Disciplinary hearing of the twelfth of August, into offenses committed under the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery and the International Statute of Secrecy by Harry James Potter, resident at number four, Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey. Interrogators: Cornelius Oswald Fudge, Minister for Magic; Amelia Susan Bones, Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement; Dolores Jane Umbridge, Senior Undersecretary to the Minister. Court Scribe, PERCY Ignatius Weasley -" Albus Dumbledore: "Witness for the defence, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore."
In the fandom, I've seen a lot of Percy being called Percival (which of course can be headcanon) but in the original you can see that it's not a diminutive. Like, it's an official legal process in court so full names have to be given, anyway if Percy's real name was Percival I think he'd prefer to use a "serious name" for his serious job. Really cool fact tho.

Dumbledore's character is objectively hilarious. Imagine being recruited to join the war by your high school principal. Imagine said high school principal is one of the leaders of the war effort. Imagine this high school principal had a fling with a well-known murderer when he younger. Imagine this high school principal, who may or may not have killed his sister, being asked for advice on how to run things from the Prime Minister. Imagine this man being your high school principal.

when you realize that miss Bellatrix Black Lestrange had the right to a trial while having the dark mark inked to her skin but Sirius Black didn't makes you realize how the ministry didn't care about justice after the first war at all.
Bellatrix was a known supporter of Voldemort, she wasn't quiet about her admiration for him, so they knew she was guilty and she still had the right to a trial.
Makes you think why, especially with Dumbledore present in the court room. Sirius was part of the order and still Dumbledore didn't seek answers as to why he had betrayed them. He was there to advocate for Snape, was present for known Death Eaters trials, but couldn't provide Sirius a fair trial, and all it would take was a little word to Fudge or Barty Crouch, after all it only took his word for Severus to be considered innocent.
It wasn't in his interest to seek the truth or even to help Sirius which is why he didn't, i don't believe he knew Sirius was innocent, but he didn't want justice, simply because it did not matter to him what the truth was, if Sirius was innocent it wouldn't help Dumbledore in his plans, if he was guilty it was indiferent to him, he simply didn't care because it wasn't important for his narrative.
Going back to Bellatrix and looking who she had the trial with, Rodolphus Lestrange, Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jr, were all pure-bloods from influencial families, makes you think if even after everything that had some weight on them getting a trial.
Sirius was a Black yes, one of the sacred 28, but he was disinherited and that was common knowledge. Even if Fudge used the excuse of being a Black to portray him as a murderer in the media, all of his family (from what we know and assume) got a trial, Sirius was the only Black who didn't get a trial and I can't help but think his disinheritance had something to do with it.
(Joanne is not smart enough to write this correctly, but the sacred 28 had a lot of political power, as we see the Malfoys exibit in the books)
So this rants leads nowhere but i have been thinking about it so tell me your thoughts on this

How fucked up this is that the reason Umbridge came to the school is because of the Dementor that attacked Harry, which led to the trial, which led to:
“And I haven’t even started on what he gets up to at school —” “— but as the Ministry has no authority to punish Hogwarts students for misdemeanors at school, Harry’s behavior there is not relevant to this inquiry,” said Dumbledore, politely as ever, but now with a suggestion of coolness behind his words. “Oho!” said Fudge. “Not our business what he does at school, eh? You think so?” [...] “Laws can be changed,” said Fudge savagely.
Damn Fudge

Y'know, with all the slander the Ministry did against Harry after GoF, I'm surprised they never floated the idea that Harry killed Cedric in a fit of jealousy or something and tried to pin it on Voldemort. I mean, obviously they had BCJ as a scapegoat but still. Fudge and Umbridge were unhinged. I'm surprised they didn't try to frame him as an unstable murderer, even just through subtext in the prophet.
