Evangelical figures who previously supported Donald Trump are backing off now that he’s announced his third bid for the presidency.

“Donald Trump can’t save America,” Mike Evans told The Washington Post. “He can’t even save himself.”

Evans was part of a group of evangelicals who met with Trump at the White House, and at one point gave him an award.

Now, he says he’s done with Trump.

“He used us to win the White House. We had to close our mouths and eyes when he said things that horrified us,” Evans told the newspaper. “I cannot do that anymore.”

Robert Jeffress, one of Trump’s evangelical advisers during the 2016 campaign and a longtime supporter, said he’s not ready to endorse him again.

“The Republican Party is headed toward a civil war that I have no desire or need to be part of,” Jeffress told Newsweek, adding that he would “happily” support Trump again if he wins the nomination.

That’s not a given, considering Trump’s plunging poll numbers among Republican voters. Jeffress also seemed to subtweet Trump on the day of his 2024 announcement by urging people to buy Mike Pence’s book:

Jeffress added on Twitter that he still considers Trump “a great friend and our greatest president since Reagan.”

Another onetime faith adviser to Trump, James Robison of Life Outreach International, said in a speech this week that Trump’s ego is getting in the way of the agenda.

“If Mr. Trump can’t stop his little petty issues, how does he expect people to stop major issues?” Robison said, according to The Washington Post.

He said he told Trump: “Sir, you act like a little elementary schoolchild and you shoot yourself in the foot every morning you get up and open your mouth! The more you keep your mouth closed, the more successful you’re gonna be!”

Robison did not say if he was planning to support Trump in 2024.

Another evangelical figure who previously endorsed Trump was even more blunt, with Washington Times columnist Everett Piper writing that Trump cost the GOP big in the midterms and could hurt them even more in two years.

“The take-home of this past week is simple: Donald Trump has to go,” Piper wrote. “If he‘s our nominee in 2024, we will get destroyed.”

So I'm paying my bill at the dentist, and I hear "You Will Be Found" on the Muzak. And just being conversational I mentioned to the clerk; "Oh, they made a country-western version version of 'Dear Evan Hansen?'"

She listened for a moment. "That's a Christian song," she condescended. "It was around before 'Dear Evan Hansen."

Internal thought monologue: " Really? Bejn Pasek and Justin Paul stole a song off Christian radio for a Broadway musical? Hmm."

I let it go, but not really. I looked it up. And sure enough, gospel singers Natalie Grant and Corey Asbury definitely recorded it, negative eleven years before Dear Evan Hansen.

Evangelical Christianity is so damn full of itself. And I have got to start being more taciturn. This would not be bugging me if I'd just kept my mouth shut.

AITA for shit talking a mutual friend to my friend and his girlfriend

I (18 nb) used to be best friends with Macy (19 f). We were incredibly close sense I was 5. Near the end of middle school I came out as bisexual and then as trans. She was totally fine with gay men (she loved rpf) so i figured it would be fine. She said she was ok with it but she would constantly tell me to tone it down, and would get uncomfortable when i had a crush on a girl. Finally after a year of her being vaguely homophobic, Macy said that lesbian relationships were disgusting. it was kind of my oh moment where i realized we couldn’t be friends anymore.

After that I met my other best friends May (19 f) and Will (18 m) and love them dearly. Macy did leave me with insecurities about my sexuality, and for a while i wasnt completely myself around May because she is straight. she told me off and she has been an awesome example as to what healthy friendships look like. 

Now to the part where i was kind of a dick. As i’ve grown into my self so has Macy. she’s an evangelical christian now. My old friends are still friends with her which im fine with. I was hanging out with my friend Evan (18 m) and his girlfriend (17 nb). They started talking about how it’s so crazy that she’s an evangelical who doesn’t care that her friends are gay. I made a face, and told them about my experience with her. They both got pissed at me and said I was being stupid and that she had changed, that i was butthurt about it, and was being mean. They also implied that I was over exaggerating how Macy acted towards me. I just stayed quiet after that but the vibes were wrong for the rest of the hang out. 

I know i am not the asshole for not being friends with Macy anymore (thank you May for teaching me that). But i told Evan and his girlfriend about how she treated me not for any productive reason, but because it pissed me off that they were saying how nice towards gay people she was. That’s really where i think i may have been an asshole, i talked shit because I was pissed about their perception of her, or at least get them to know that she wasn’t always like that.

William and his children are Catholic, i mean you're correct on the evangelical type, but he does practice the catholic faith, and also forces michael to confess every sunday as well, (he doesnt make elizabeth or evan do it, as they are both really young and dont really do anything bad in his eyes)

a thing that really fascinates me is the gulf between "christian" art and "evangelical" art because there is a lot of art i woudl qualify as christian art that means a lot to me (the works of martin scorcesse, the works of francis ford coppola, the works of sufjan stevens, evan dahm's THE HARROWING OF HELL, unfortunatley kevin smith's DOGMA, juddee sill's "jesus was a crossmaker," charles schultz's PEANUTS, the list goes on) and evangelical art is pretty much universally dreck that is unwatchable and the existience of christian art makes enjoyers of evangelical art hopping furoius mad.

😐 Strange Medicine: Dr. Maxwell Thornton Murder Mysteries (S.C. Wynne, author; Matt Haynes, narrator) - p much a standard but entertaining cozy in thoroughly fictional small town. Until the surprise fatphobia in the epilogue! And the epilogue was literally just setting up the next murder so it was TOTALLY SKIPPABLE! I wish I'd known bc I would have just stopped and not had my mostly pleasant experience tainted. I do have to say that the narration was really stellar on this, doing a great job with the buttoned-up, tense voice for Maxwell and the relaxed drawl for Royce

If you have a moment, would you be so kind as to briefly introduce them to me? There's so little material in canon and I'm wondering if the fandom has decided upon traits for them.

There’s so much to unpack here and I don’t think I’m the best person to do this BUT I’ll try

So, in canon, Regulus Arcturus Black is a pure blood Slytherin and the younger brother of Sirius. He died at 18, trying to get Voldemort’s horcrux.

Bartemius Crouch Junior is also a pureblood Slytherin, and he was Mad-Eye Moody in the fourth book.

Evan Rosier is a pure blood Slytherin and Moody killed him as he fought instead of going quietly when arrested. (They were all Death Eaters)

HOWEVER in FANON

Regulus may have a good relationship with Sirius. If he had an animagus, it would be a black cat. On the outside, he would seem very cold and mean, but he’s really soft on the inside. He does have trust issues (i think) and the person he’s closest to is Pandora. Yes, he will threaten to hex and curse you, but unless you piss him off, there’s a chance he won’t (THE CHANCE IS STILL THERE). His common nicknames are Reg and Reggie and he’s headcannoned (hc) to be pretty short, unlike canon.

He’s commonly shipped with James (ship name: starchaser, sunseeker, Jegulus), Lily (Regulily), or both (Jegulily, Jelly). Rarer ships include Bartylus and Moonwater (Remus and Reg) and more.

Barty is described to be very chaotic and always up to no good. And with this he often drags his best friend, Evan, with him. He’s quite clingy and he does pull pranks if he wants to. Mind you, he’ll always get revenge. He’s also a pyromaniac and can set anything on fire. His animagus is a raccoon (i think so anyway). Nicknames include Bat and Bart

He’s commonly shipped with Evan (Rosekiller, Darkrose). Rare pairs are Bartylus, Party (Peter), Darksun (James) and more.

Evan is quite chill but he’s also pretty chaotic, considering he’s Barty’s best friend. Pandora is often hc as his twin sister, so Evan Rosier and Pandora Rosier. His animagus would be a fennec fox or a crow (to me). He’s hc to be quite possessive (TO ME) so he and Barty goes pretty well. Nicknames include Ev, Evvy, Evangelical, Rose, Rosie.
