Splatoon 3 addressing criticisms of the previous games' restrictive gendered clothing items simply by renaming "gender" to "style" and letting members of the Style Formerly Known As Boy put on long hair and skirts is remarkably in character – after all, what could gender possibly be to an inkling but a fashion statement? – but framing it that way also has weird implications in light of inkling society's attitude toward fashion.
