I remember seeing this scene in the Octavinelle Book 3 trailer, and i was like, Yeaaah .. Azul is related to Ursula, ofcourse he is going to have her crystal, but then.. i noticed Jade and Floyd were inside of it?

I thought at first it was a meaningless detail, however little did I know it wasn't!

As i was searching the Ariel movie wiki for scientific reason ofcourse

I found the info that made my little bubble burst

It was never just an "Ursula Crystal"

The crystal itself was Jade and Floyd, aka Flotsam and Jetsam, their referenced characters all along

It's Azul's Time!

So Ariel was a bit wary of him, like the other heroes since he looks exactly as Ursula and he makes contracts with people. But no matter how wary she is of him, she still feels really bad for him upon seeing his Memories. Ariel finds it sad that he had to go through being bullied like that and so started being self-concious about himself. Also she is a little happy that he atleast have Jade and Floyd as friends, even though they remind her way too much of Flotsam and Jetsam. Ariel definitly gives Azul some self-confidence boost (just cuz he looks like her villain, does not mean he should suffer like that)

Ursula is also feeling bad for Azul and is furious on how those merfolk bullied poor Azul for being himself. She internally hopes those bullies got what they deserved. Being the theater kid she is, she gives Azul plenty of advice on how to confident about his merform

Azul being the Ursula Fanboy he is, is really close on fainting on how his IDOL gives him advice. He also appreatince Ariel's advice

Wait…is MC supposed to be the hero in all the Disney movies that the dorms’ villains are from?? I was thinking about how Jamil is supposed to be like Jafar from Aladdin, and I had assumed that Kalim must be Aladdin but I thought about it and realized he’s not. Kalim was a pampered child and he gets hypnotized by Jamil, which would actually make him the sultan. Which makes me think that MC is actually Aladdin because MC brings about Jamil’s downfall. In Book 1, MC is the only one who could be Alice because Riddle is obviously the Queen of Hearts and the rest of the Heartslabyul boys are card soldiers (unless you want to argue that Trey is the King of Hearts, but that’s not the point). In Book 2, Leona is Scar and Ruggie represents all of the hyena underlings. I’m not sure where Jack fits in, but for the most part he stays neutral and MC is the one confronting Leona. In Book 3, Azul is Ursula and Jade and Floyd are Flotsam and Jetsam and MC ends up having to make a contract with Azul. Is this supposed to be obvious??? Am I dumb??? Is MC Alice, Simba, Arielle, Aladdin, etc.??? Am I squinting to hard??? The only part that doesn’t add up is that Cheka should be Simba going by Leona’s family tree. Also Prince Rielé canonically exists.

I feel a space in my bed. Leona must’ve left at some point. Thankfully, today is a new day, and the past is in the past.

“Nyah! I wonder what the next story will be!” Grim meows, jumping into my arms.

“At this point, I don’t want to know,” I answer, walking into the campus building for breakfast.

“I have another task for you!” Crowley announces, grabbing my hand and snapping us into the Mirror Chamber.

“I haven’t even had breakfast yet,” I groan, rubbing my eyes.

“Beggars can’t be choosers, Yuu,” Crowley says as I do the same routine and open the coffin.

Surprisingly, the coffin didn’t send Grim and me screaming. Instead, it sent water swirling around our bodies. The water disappears, and I’m a mermaid while Grim is a tiger shark.

“Cool!” We exclaim, bumping our bodies.

We swim to Ursula’s cave and find Jade, Floyd, and Azul.

I guess it would make sense for them not to change in this story. Though, Azul is as chubby as he was back in the old-school photo.

“Which woe do you want to get rid of?” Azul asks as Jade and Floyd circle around me.

“He can do anything,” Jade whispers.

“Though it will cost you,” Floyd whispers so close to my ear I can feel his teeth.

“I’m here to help you. A little birdie told me you were having self-image issues,” I say, getting straight to the point.

The cave’s entrance slams shut behind me, and the atmosphere is now dark.

“You can’t-you won’t tell anyone about what is said in this cave! If you do, I’ll feed you to Jetsam and Flam!” Azul(Ursula) screams, his tentacles wrapping around every part of me.

“Ok, I’ll stay silent,” I whimper.

“You could say it’s true I have a couple of insecurities. Everyone made fun of me for being chubby and slow. I couldn’t swim as fast as that red-headed mermaid Ariel! She was supposed to come for me to make a deal, but here you are,” Azul rants.

“You look fine. Besides, big boys are the best for the winter. They keep you warm. Plus, when you swim slower, you enjoy the moments of life others may miss because they’re swimming in the fast lane,” I advise, trying to mas Azul feel better.

“I suppose you’re right, but what does it matter? My voice is shit. I can’t even sing a single note,” Azul moans, tears starting to form in his eyes. “If only I had Ariel’s voice.”

“Don’t you have any other talents?” I ask, trying to calm him down.

“He’s an excellent cook. Ursula makes the best meals for us after work,” Jade says, taking out a tray of seaweed wraps. “Try one. They’re delicious.”

I take a seaweed wrap and look at Azul.

“Azul, these are delicious!” I yell, my eyes growing wide.

“Thank you, my parents taught me how to cook. Not everything has to be raw and bland in the sea,” Azul brags, pulling me closer to him with his tentacles. “Also, my name is Ursula, not Azul.”

“Who gives a damn if you can’t sing?! You could become the sea’s best chef with your skills!” I exclaim, swimming forward.

“I suppose I could. Besides, it would take a lot less effort than making deals with other mermaids in exchange for their talents,” Azul notes, looking at the weird wormy things on the floor. “I suppose I’ll have to release you all.”

The worms seem happy and wave from side to side quickly.

“Can you help me taste test my meals?” Azul asks, taking me to a bedroom of sorts.

“Sure!” I say, happy that this isn’t going like the other stories.

“Great! Just stay in this bedroom! You won’t even have to get up for anything!” Azul squeals, taking me to a purple bedroom with many seaweed pillows. “From now on, think of me as your personal caterer!”

Grim swims around while blankly staring. Though, Grim’s most likely asleep right now.

“I’ve come with our dinner! I call it Into the abyss of dreams! One bite, and you’ll be in dreamland!” Azul explains, opening up a tray and revealing a blue fish with a shine to its scales. “I cooked a dream fish. Hopefully, it’s to your tastes. I made it, especially for you, you know.”

I take a bite, and suddenly I start to feel sleepy.

“Azul…I think that name fits me.”

I wake up with my tail attached to a chain. Tentacles are holding every inch of my body.

“Morning, my pearl. I made breakfast for you a bit early. Hopefully, it’s not too cold,” Azul or Ursula says, putting a plate of shrimp in front of me.

"Ursula, what are you doing?!" I yell, trying to get out of his hold.

"No! Call me Azul like from before! I like that name!" Azul pleads, putting a shrimp in my mouth. "Azul feels more right."

I nearly gag from the spoon being pushed so far into my mouth, but I swallow the food. Grim is eating the tail of some large fish while Azul prepares another spoonful for me. I turn my head away.

"You don't like it?" Azul says sadly.

"Let me go!" I yell, tears starting to well in my eyes.

"You can't go, remember? You promised to be my taste tester for every meal. Your only job is to stay in this room, eat my lovely cooking, and give feedback."

"I never promised to stay in this room!"

"You're staying here! You get to be like a princess for the rest of your life! You can eat meals with me forever! What is so bad about me that you can't want to stay!"

"How about you kidnapping me?!"

"JUST EAT!"

Azul shoves a spoonful of shrimp in my mouth, and I nearly choke on it as they go down my throat unchewed. He opens another tray and forcefully feeds me a different meal. I barely have to breathe before he shoves another spoonful of food in my mouth.

How many days has it been? A month? Forty-three days? Who knows? One thing I know is Azul has no intentions of letting me go. He only feeds me, showers me, and takes care of my basic needs. Of course, his favorite activity is doing my sometimes three times a day shower. He likes to see the food stains on my cheeks. But he really likes looking at my stomach as it grows from me not moving around and only eating. He says it's the sea's way of showing appreciation to him.

"Look at how big your stomach is from eating all my delicious food. I wish I could cram more down there," Azul says, rubbing a tentacle around my stomach.

I've tried everything. I vomited in the toilet after every meal. I haven't eaten for weeks. Somehow he still finds a way to make eating more and painfully make my stomach become bigger from eating all of his food. I hate him.

I hate when he keeps feeding me even when he says I'm full. I hate when my stomach feels like it's about to pop from eating too much.

"How about dessert after this? I found some coco beans in a ship nearby," Azul says, kissing my cheek.

He looks down at my chest, seeing the poorly fit bra shell.

"I'll get you a new one with the money I've earned. Everyone loves my cooking, just like you said," Azul coos, climbing into the tub with me. "I'll be back. I'm getting you a slice of cake to eat."

I silently stare at him like I always do, and Grim swims into the bathroom. He drops a key with an octopus design as its top into my hand, and I catch it, causing a rack to fall over.

"My darling pearl, what are you doing with that key?" Azul asks, walking back into the room.

"Going home," I hoarsely say, making a twisting motion with my wrist.

The world turns black, and I hear the water moving around me. I'm back to how I was before I met Azul, and Grim is back to his cat form. A figure appears, and I walk toward it, hoping it can help.

"Hey, help! I need help!" I yell, feeling the effects of not having my legs for a long time.

"My beautiful pearl, you haven't left me yet," Azul says, turning around to let me see his deformed body.

"Oh my God, Azul!" I yell, about to throw up.

Half of Azul is chubby the other half is skinny like he is in reality. He struggles to walk toward me as his body weight is uneven. A tentacle wraps around my ankle and tries to pull me into the blackness.

"Let go!" I scream, trying to pull my foot up.

Grim bites the tentacle, and it releases me. I take the chance to run away from Azul and head toward a purple light. I hear something on Azul shift into something slimy, and he chases after me.

"My pearl, wait! Don't leave me!" Azul pleads, chasing after me with his tentacles.

I halfway reach the light, but Azul's tentacles stop me. I've had enough of him.

"Leave me alone!" I scream, slapping Azul hard across the face.

All is silent, and then Azul bursts into tears that transform into pearls.

"Please don't go! I promise I'll feed you when you want it! I'll take off the chain more often! I'll invite you to my restaurant! I'll do anything for you! Please don't leave me alone as everyone else did!" Azul wails, getting on his knees and wrapping his arms and tentacles around my waist and legs. "Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please don't leave me my pearl! I can't live without you!"

"Azul, let go!" I yell, trying to peel him off of me.

The purple light moves closer, and I put the octopus key in, letting me return to NRC.

"You aren't real. You don't get to terrorize me," I say before the light takes Grim and me back to the Mirror Chamber.

The coffin slams shut, but something tries to open it from the inside.

"Yuu, there you are. You've been gone for like 43 hours. Everyone was worried," Ace says, walking into the Mirror Chamber. "Are you ok? You look malnourished."

The coffin is forced open with tentacles peeking out.

"My pearl, I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you, I promise! Please d-don't don't don't d-d-d-on't leave mmm-mme mmm-mem-me!" Azul pleads, glitching as the coffin slams shut again, cutting off part of his tentacles.

The coffin disappears into dust, and I look at the mirror.

...What the fuck was that?!

I’m not very up to snuff about Twisted Wonderland but are the Leech bros supposed to be kinda like flotsam and jetsam from Ariel? I’d think because it’s still “Disney”, they’d resemble characters from it.

Anyway, I really like your dynamic with Idia being in the middle of every character haha :D

You’re correct, Anon! Floyd and Jade are based on Flotsam and Jetsam. And out of the entire twst cast, I feel like these two are the closest to their prototype characters lol

It’s very intriguing to me how it feels to see twst-related stuff without much context, must be a fun experience.

And thank you haha, we can’t help it: we just love Idia way too much not to put him through all this…struggle.

I prefer Disneyland over Disneysea, and the rides are overall more impressive in land, but sea has some really pretty photo spots. But the magicial vibe is just sm stronger in land. Also it wasn't that unbearingly hot, there was some wind and it was actually better than Hong Kong Disneyland

ALSO you can ask staff for stickers and they'll customise them with markers!! The yellow ones are for first time visitors, and they say "(Rinna's) debut" like and actress haha. The other ones say "To a great day!" "Enjoy your first visit!" and it's all so wholesome

Ok overall thoughts!

I am sweating bullets, BULLETS I SAY, re-watching scenes from the movies and putting them in the context of Twst. Just this entire scene with Flotsam and Jetsam talking to Ariel and imaging the twins too it??? On gOD!?!

The twins doing what they do best, being sly and toying with their latest catch. They lean against each other, twirling their tails, and mockingly flutter their eyes as they say, “You and your prince together forever~” Also OF COURSE, it would be Jade to actually speak about the Sea Witch and oh so conveniently flicks over the statue piece to get Ariel to second guess on her choice.

[Twisted Wonderland Theory] What Are Sub-Bases? What Are The Characters Sub-Bases?

Characters can have lots of sub-bases. It really depends on their appearance, relationships with other characters, and maybe even some of the things they say. Here's the list I thought of (if a character isn't there it means I have no idea):

Riddle: Ariel because they both have red hair and get annoyed by the eels. (Flotsam and Jetsam for Ariel and Jade and Floyd for Riddle).

Trey: I think the King of Hearts is suitable. Although the King of Hearts looks more like Cater, personality and actions wise, both Trey and the king try to please the queen (Riddle/Queen of Hearts) but are not really doing anything truly good for them.

Cater: Cinderella because both have sisters. According to Cater's birthday card personal story, his sisters weren't mean to him like Anastasia and Drizella, but they didn't really take into account his feelings. Both look similar enough too.

Ace: Alice because both turned against the Queen (Riddle/Queen of Hearts).

Deuce: The Horned King from The Black Cauldron. The Horned King is searching for this cauldron, and Deuce can magically summon cauldrons whenever. Apparently, people say The Horned King wasn't super dramatic like other Disney villains. Similar to how Deuce is calm like Trey, but more serious and harder to approach.

Leona: Rapunzel, think of NRC as the tower Rapunzel spends pretty much her whole childhood in. Leona is the only student we know who hasn't graduated yet, but should have. Both have green eyes too.

Azul: The Genie because both are said to grant wishes. Azul also means blue, and the Genie is blue.

Jade: Jasmine because both are named after gems. Both are also deceiving in their own way.

Silver: It could be Arthur, that boy from The Sword in the Stone that Merlin decides to teach magic to. Both learn magic from someone who isn't biologically related to them (I think Silver learned really basic magic from Lilia)and both can use swords. Rapunzel is also an option for Silver too, evidence is in the same post as the one for Malleus and Lilia.

Where did that come from? Octavinelle Edition

Octavinelle, one of my favourite dorms and The Little Mermaid (1989) a movie I loved as a kid, this will be fun. Other than Azul's boss fight taking literal days for me to beat, I loved this chapter and it solidified these 3 mer-mafiosos as characters close to my heart. Let's sea what they have in common with the Ursula, and where they came from. Time for part three of my "Where did that come from" series.

Overall

The characters correlate pretty easily: Jade and Floyd are Jetsam and Flotsam respectively, with Azul as Ursula. Deuce, Ace, Grim and the other people who made the deals are the shrivelled creatures in Ursula's lair and Yuu is Ariel. In my opinion, compared to people in Ursula's Lair the one brain cell trio got off easy.

Apparently all mermaids turned human have trouble walking at first like Ariel did. Honestly I would pay money to see the Octavinelle gang's first week or so on land. It sounds like a hilarious sight. The tweels grew out of it quickly, just like Ariel did, but it seems Azul hasn’t so far.

Bonus: The Octatrio’s names are all colours, Azul- blue (Spanish) Jade- green, Floyd- morally grey (Welsh)

Character specific

Azul and Ursula both own less than honest businesses.

Azul resembles Ursula alot physically from his white hair and mole though its on the wrong side of his chin to his underwater form even sharing her colour scheme and when he was younger he would have had a similar body type to her. He even has her crazy eyes when he overblots. It's uncanny. Since he admires Ursula, I wonder how he feels about looking like her? Other than Malleus, I feel Azul resembles his corresponding villain the most.

Azul and Ursula both love to act as a pillar of generosity and give help to all the poor, unfortunate souls who flock to them in need of help, but often use underhanded techniques to make sure that they end up failing their end of the bargain, allowing them to get what they want.

Azul’s potion works in opposite to Ursula's own, he offers a way to go underwater, she offers a way to go on land. Yet both have the same 3-day time limit for their deal and heavy collaterals, Ariel her voice and Yuu their house.

Sidenote: the way Azul made Crowley sign away his authority to do anything about his shady dealings was like Crowley signing away his ability to speak up and voice his opinions on the matter.

Azul lies about how his contracts are unbreakable, but it seems Ursula found a way to do that, and he was just piggybacking off of that to scare the first years.

When Azul is on the brink of Overblotting he tries to take the abilities and magic of Jade and Floyd as a sort of sacrifice to allow him to win and Ursula took out her eels with magic but not as a sacrifice to make her stronger but by accidentally vaporizing them. Thankfully Azul wasn't able to hurt the tweels because the group stopped him.

I'm going to group Jade and Floyd because Jetsam and Flotsam don't really get much characterization or screen time so what one has is for both in most cases.

Jade and Floyd both obediently listen to Azul's commands and often get information for him, just like Ursula's eels do. They have even made these comparisons themselves in chats. This, plus Ace mentioning a movie about the mermaid princess and human prince. That makes me wonder how much their stories have in common with our own, but that's a theory for another day.

Something I really liked is that the shadow Jade and Floyd cast on the gang at the Atlantic Museum is the same one Flotsam and Jetsam cast on Ariel. Both sets of eels also come to people in bad situations offering to rid them of all their troubles all you have to do is make a deal with a certain Octopus mermaid.

Jade and Floyd match their respective eel with the order of their heterochromia.

Jade mentions the fork Ariel uses to comb her hair with as an artefact in the museum.

Floyd mentions visiting the sunken ship in the intro of the movie, as a common test of courage when he was younger.

I have to give it to Disney and the team, these two are pretty unique from each other even though the core is still there. Great for giving people who saw the movie a new experience, but it doesn't give me much to write on especially for Jade and Floyd. Flotsam and Jetsam don't really get much screen time other than lurking in the shadows except for their one scene with dialogue. Until this rewatch I didn't even remember if they talked.

I listened this and his singing voice made me imagined that Azul was granted Jadence’s wish which Jadence told him she wanted have another of her ( as twin sister . ) to helps her do other jobs and cases .

Meanwhile , Azul told her he want her voice . So, she agreed herself and signed Azul’s contract .

-Ursula accidentally kills Flotsam and Jetsam in the movie so WOW

-Disney wiki refers to Ariel’s cave of treasures as a “grotto” so I’m thinking “Ashengrotto” is a play on Ariel’s stuff getting destroyed by her dad lol

-Jetsam and Flotsam’s powers come from their eyes so I headcanon that Floyd’s signature spell comes from his eye like Jade’s does, but I need to replay the part where his spell is explained

-Floyd gorging himself on strawberries for a shortcake the Mostro Lounge was making could be a reference to a children’s book where Flotsam and Jetsam decide to ruin a garden by eating all the flowers and get stomach aches

-Jade’s ability only working on vulnerable people may be a reference to the eels plotting to offer Ursula’s deal to Ariel at a time when she’s vulnerable, i.e. after her cave is destroyed by her dad

-Ursula eats shrimp so that’s how Floyd sees MC lol

-(not about TW) Eric doesn’t even consider that Arielle might’ve lost her voice even though she insists he met her and he thinks she’s familiar, prime himbo behavior

-Headcanon that Azul doesn’t like dogs because Max doesn’t like ‘Vanessa’ (Ursula) and she kicks him at the wedding

-Riddle’s backstory with his mom could be a reference to Alice having an older sister that tries to tutor her and wants her to be proper. Obviously Alice isn’t the Queen of Hearts but everything in Wonderland comes from Alice’s imagination so it’s partially stuff from her own life

-(not about TW) Is the white rabbit a drug addict? Why are his eyes red?

-Alice says the “drink me” potion tastes like a cherry tart.

-The mad hatter tells ‘riddles’ (“why is the raven like a writing desk?” like shut UP, it’s not a riddle if you don’t know the answer)

-That one Deuce chat where he says Ace pranked him by saying his clock was two days slow is something the mad hatter said to the white rabbit

-It’s weird that Trey is Riddle’s vice housewarden because ‘Tre’ is one of the cards that loses his head (Ace, Deuce, Tre). I would think his name would be different and he’d represent the heart or spade cards which were more loyal.

-Riddle saying “speak up and don’t twiddle your thumbs” (or something) during lessons is a reference to the Queen of Hearts telling Alice this when they met

-Riddle’s horse is named Vorpal which is the name of the sword that Alice uses in the live action movie. It’s originally from a Lewis Carrol poem called “Jabberwocky”

-I just noticed Riddle and Floyd’s pet peeves basically describe each other lmao
