i saw these two people in the tolkien discord server i’m in say this, and while i can see their point (i 100% believe that men should be able to be affectionate without romantic undertones), i just feel like so many people get the wrong idea that samfro shippers merely see them as “gay and cute”

most of us accept all interpretations of their relationship, whether that’s soulmates, queer-platonic, romantic, etc

Great question! SO sorry for the delay in responding. I hope to make my reply worth the wait. Also, this answer will be really long - sorry again - but I have many thoughts on this.

I completely agree that men should be able to be affectionate without it being romantic. Women do not have this problem of fearing open affection due to assumptions about sexuality, and I think it’s a terrible symptom of toxic masculinity for men to forbid themselves from showing affection out of fear of it being misinterpreted. LOTR is full of many beautiful examples of how men can be emotionally vulnerable with each other and how platonic friends can still physically express innocent affection (Aragorn’s kiss to Boromir’s forehead is a great example). Modern society should definitely follow the examples set by these characters.

The thing is, as a straight woman, I did not go into LOTR expecting to see any same-sex romances at all. And the majority of male friendships depicted in the book and films never gave me any sense of romantic undertones. Unlike many fans, I do not ship Legolas and Gimli because I recognize that their relationship is a bridge between Elves and Dwarves, proof that they can get along, that despite their differences, they can still find common ground and respect each other and be friends. This to me is a far more important message than a generic “forbidden romantic love story” that many view their relationship as. Their bond isn’t necessarily about wanting to sleep together, but more about recognizing that they can like and be fond of each other, and not allow their parents or cultures to influence how they view each other. I do not hate the Gigolas ship, of course, and people can feel free to ship them if they want to. But to me, they fall under the category described in the discord that you have shared: their friendly intimacy does not necessarily signify anything romantic. Even their journey into the West together does not have to be a romantic thing; I see it as Gimli not wanting to say goodbye to any more of his friends, after losing Merry, Pippin, and Aragorn, and instead going on one last adventure with his soul-brother Legolas.

Frodo and Sam, however, have always stood out to me as being different from all the other friendships in LOTR. I didn’t even take any pause in the fact that they’re both male. I just saw two people in love. It’s just in how they are written, and in Elijah and Sean’s beautiful performances. I totally agree that ANY interpretation of their relationship is valid. I think it is very wrong for any shipper of these two to insult or declare someone “wrong” to see them as just friends. But it’s the same the other way around. It is unfair for non-shippers to hate on shippers. While the argument regarding Tolkien’s Catholicism is an understandable one, texts and characters do develop lives of their own over time. Texts are meant to be interpreted. Tolkien himself wrote that he did not want to enforce his own beliefs within the story, and instead preferred to leave it open to readers to apply their own views and perspectives to it. He basically was inviting us to make interpretations that deviate from his own. He may not have had sexuality in mind when he wrote this, but if he were alive, I very much doubt he’d be hypocritical enough to criticize people for doing the very thing he encouraged them to do, especially since he was smart enough to know that not every reader of his work was or would be Catholic, and thus may not see certain aspects the way he did.

The main, unchangeable, factual point about Frodo and Sam’s relationship is that they love each other. That’s it. They go from formal master and servant to two people who have been through hell and back together, and in the process, formed a bond that nobody else will ever understand. This point stands, whether their specific feelings for each other are platonic or romantic. To view them as lovers does not take away from or undermine the foundations of how Tolkien shaped their characters and the connection they build.

It also bothers me how those who criticize this ship use the word “gay.” Bear in mind, of course, that I’m not an actual member of the LGBT community, and I’m speaking based on my love for my many LGBT friends and relatives, and the efforts I’ve made to understand and empathize with this community, and to never be among those who hate people based on who they love. But I’ve learned enough by now to know that it is quite ignorant of people to truncate the idea of Frodo and Sam being in love as “they’re gay.” Sam is not gay, as shown by his love for Rosie. To ship Frodo and Sam is not to erase Rosie or pretend Sam doesn’t love her. Sam has the biggest heart of any fictional character I’ve ever seen, and I, like many shippers, don’t find it implausible that he has room enough in that heart to have two great loves.

On that note, I’ll now signify that in the text Frodo and Sam have many moments that no other pair of male characters have, which serve as actual potential evidence of a romance. It says in the text itself that he is “torn in two” between Frodo and Rosie. No other pair of male characters in LOTR has any moment like this. Aragorn does not feel torn between Arwen and his friends, for instance. Sam hesitating to marry Rosie if it means he can’t be near Frodo is a very unique detail that adds weight to this “ship.” Not to mention the way Sam strokes Frodo’s hand in Rivendell and blushes, or calls himself “your Sam,” or has a Romeo-like moment of falsely believing Frodo is dead, or longs for the touch of Frodo’s hand in the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Plus, don’t forget that in another of Tolkien’s writings, Elanor directly compares Sam losing Frodo to Celeborn losing his wife. Also, I and many others have described how Frodo and Sam’s story directly parallels that of two canon lovers, Beren and Lúthien. Again, platonic interpretations of all this are valid, but it’s important to remember that shippers are not making things up. We’re not saying or believing that Frodo and Sam are in love “because they’re cute”. There are many moments between them in the text that support this interpretation, not the least of which is a direct parallel to a canon romantic couple - and without context, many of their exchanges and moments could easily be seen in a romantic light. (Sam watching Frodo sleep and saying “I love him, whether or no,” and declaring his one wish after potentially completing the Quest alone is not to return to the Shire and Rosie, but to return to Frodo’s body and never leave him again … all these things are right there in the text. Merry and Pippin, Legolas and Gimli, Aragorn and Boromir, none of them have any moments like this.)

And Sam’s journey across the Sea does not have nearly as much ambiguity as Gimli’s. Gimli has more to gain by going than staying; to stay would be to be left alone with no family and no more Elves or hobbits around, while to go would be to stand by his best friend, see the woman he loves/deeply admires again (Galadriel), and not face any more goodbyes. He wouldn’t really lose anything by leaving with Legolas, only gain. Sam’s circumstances are completely different. He has many people in the Shire; 13 children and countless grandchildren who could take care of him. He could easily spend his last days peacefully living with Elanor and watching her children grow, as any old hobbit would typically do. To sail West would be to lose and permanently be separated from a countless number of loved ones. And though he was affected by the Ring as a Ring-bearer, he held it for a very brief time, short enough for it to not prevent him from having a normal life after the war. It cannot be easily assumed that the lasting effect of the Ring on him was so powerful that it made him happier to leave his family than to stay with them. Because what would be waiting for him in Valinor? Gimli had two people in Valinor to whom he was very close, Legolas and Galadriel, as opposed to no loved ones back in Middle-earth. But Sam had one person in Valinor to whom he was very close, Frodo, as opposed to dozens of loved ones back in Middle-earth. The fact that he chooses Frodo over his family, to live with Frodo rather than die with and rest beside Rosie, to see Frodo again rather than see his family as much as possible in his remaining days…is a major point worth considering, and another thing that adds a layer of credibility to the idea of shipping them.

So to sum it all up, to say “you just ship Frodo and Sam because you don’t know what friendship is, because you think they’re cute so they must want to sleep together” is a MASSIVE trivialization/oversimplification/misunderstanding and completely ignores the things I’ve just laid out, particularly the distinctions between their relationship and those of other male pairings in LOTR.

Ok, ramble time is over…Boy, I hope that made at least one lick of sense! Haha.

You know watching PPP has completely flipped my interpretation of PP3 and PPFI.I think I am having a delayed heartbreak.Before PPP I definitely saw their interactions at the end of PPFI as romantic/at least something that resembles more than a working relationship.But now with context it looks like two people who understands they have a different understanding of justice and decided to be amicable about it.Funnily enough I don’t think I would even call them friends at that point let alone possible romantic partners.It feels more like they have resigned themselves to the fact their ideals of justice would never converge.That’s a huge deal breaker for friendship let alone romance.The best possible scenario for me would be if they released ppp chronologically.That way I could save myself the massive heartbreak of PP3+PPFI.Also as much as I have tried I just can’t ignore the writers and director.I have always perceived Kougami and Akane as very romantic.The nature of their ideologies.The absolute trust they have in each other .Twin flames who just couldn’t be together because of circumstances of the society they live under.Now that I know as both evidenced by canon and cast interviews that they are supposed to be percieved as platonic work buddies who don’t see eye to eye and they’ll never fall in love I have to go back and reevaluate the entire understanding of their relationship,maybe even pp because pp to me has always meant Shinkane/Kouaka.I feel like I don’t even know the charecters anymore.I swear the loss of romance aspects don’t even bother me quite as much as them setting up Kougami as Akane’s ideological opponent/foil.For me it has always been Akane and Kougami vs Sybil/everything.But now they have turned the tables and the way it’s being set up Akane vs Kougami is going to be at least the secondary if not the main conflict of the series conclusion.Their conflict has been as unresolved as ever.They’ll be in the ideological opposition again.It hurts more than I ever imagined to put things into perspective.Of course they should tell the story they want to tell.But going forward I don’t think Kouaka is possible romantically in canon anymore(in their defence they told us point blank).In conclusion I feel bad about it but I am not sure if I can enjoy PP anymore because how do you reconcile two people who you percieved as soulmates ending up as opposition who will never meet in the middle?I can’t and it’s breaking my heart.Maybe someday I’d be able to be less bitter and more objective about the source material.But right now I can’t.I need to grieve.

I also feel like Akane is alone in her fight for justice and Kogami is constantly being proved right (explosions, fights, etc. No more literary Kogami). He was reduced to violence for violence’s sake.

I was thinking about what he said, that he agreed with Tonami, but that he believed in her because she’s always trying to do the right thing. I wish there was more of that. I wish he really tried to believe in her.

One of the novels, I remember, describes his arrival to SeaUN. There’s a part where people are celebrating in the distance and he asks why are they celebrating? And someone tells Kogami: “it’s the birth of a baby or a wedding.” He says something along the lines of “those are good things. Those are the things she fights for. I’ll fight for that too.” (It was @cleverwolfpoetry’s translation.) And I love that. That’s the Kogami that I absolutely adore.

Him training the guerrillas because these are oppressed people with clouded hues relegated to an inferior caste and with no power to fight back. Him fighting for the right for everyone to decide if they want a corporation like Sibyl to control their lives or not, which is the same thing Akane wants and was able to achieve after talking to Sibyl as Chairman Han. Maybe him being disappointed when people vote in favor of Sibyl. That’s Kogami.

Maybe he knows Akane is right, but her dreams are unattainable. The truth is somewhere between them two, but I don’t know if this is something they want to explore anymore in PP. It seems like their visions have become flat and one-dimensional at this point.

In S1, Kogami is a cynic but Akane reminds him of things worth fighting for. And Akane is naive but Kogami allows her to see beyond and look at evil in the face. Both things are necessary for a detective: protecting people and understanding that people can be evil. Kogami and Akane’s natures remain the same, but being able to understand the point of the view of the other is what made their relationship so beautiful.

I always said that the true resistance to a system like that would be to love each other. To say “fuck you” to the system. At this point both characters are distanced, disconnected. It’s like their relationship hasn’t evolved. I don’t know if what Akane did would make it evolve.

I just know that she’s the loneliest of characters and it seems like she’s leading that fight alone while everyone else is busy shooting each other or playing Machiavellian political games. If the writers are smart or if Urobuchi comes back (he won’t), they would show a real uprising caused by what Akane did. Maybe she’ll even be sacrificed.

She’s the one who’s always asking “what was I born for?” That question still hasn’t been answered. Seeing Kogami fight for her sake, for a better future, would be peak Kogami again.

One can dream…

That heartbreak you’re feeling I had it when I finished the mess that was S3. I don’t know why they went in the direction they went but I was so disappointed that I also grieved for a while. I guess that protected me from heartbreak watching PPP.

Hey everyone! I’ve had this blog for a little while now and I realized I haven’t done a proper writeblr introduction. My name is Faye and I’m a twenty-something bisexual woman-child who’s usually got her head in the clouds or her nose buried in a good fantasy book. I’m a daydreamer, worldbuilder, fantasy lore enthusiast, and of course, a creative writer. I’ve been writing off and on since I graduated high school, and while I’ve been ‘on’ again since my mid-twenties, I still consider myself a novice, albeit a very passionate one.

Writing, editing, drawing, singing, animals, video games, storytelling, history & mythology, languages, learning about different cultures, personal growth & self-improvement, constructive criticism, making new writing buddies, writers supporting other writers, people who let me talk about my OCs until I run out of breath from talking so much. :)

Content I Enjoy Writing and Reading

Mostly fantasy and its many subgenres (high, modern, scifi, dark). I also enjoy horror, paranormal, and dark-themed stories that explore real life human struggles in exciting, imaginative worlds. I consider myself a fantasy/romance writer overall but I’m honestly not too picky and will read anything that’s well-written and has solid worldbuilding + likeable characters. I love stories that focus on character growth and personal journeys, especially ones that have strong themes of romance, friendship, or that demonstrate the strength of love and bonds between people, regardless if it’s romantic, platonic, or familial. I’m a bisexual creator and every story I write has LGBT+ characters and relationships. As far as romance goes, I write gay, lesbian, bisexual, and straight romances with various genders and dynamics. I enjoy delving into many different themes in my stories, such as discovering identity, exploring sexuality, examining what it means to be human, and finding one’s place in the wide world.

a plot inspired by kate winslet and leo dicaprio’s long-standing friendship? two actors, muse a and muse b meet on the set of a romance film in their early 20s, they have immediate chemistry (platonic soulmates, at first), and become the best of friends. It’s a very international friendship throughout the whole plot. they talk on the phone a lot, text, etc. meet up in l.a, nyc, london etc. every now and again after several months and even years, go by. they tell each other absolutely everything, from their failed marriages, to anxieties, recent books they’ve read and loved, etc. everyone thinks they should be together (media, press, fans) but they just laugh it off until muse a starts ~feeling things~ (maybe they had a crush on muse b while shooting but it fizzled out? or so they thought?), and this happens while the two are now in their mid to late-30s. 15-ish years later? and now muse a is kinda freaking out cause maybe muse b is married? and they don’t know what to do and they don’t want to ruin this amazing friendship??

What do you think is the actual deal between Harry and Taylor? Because they seem to be each other's muses- and with the lyrical back and forth that's been going on, EVEN AFTER A DECADE- it can't be nothing. They give off major soulmates vibes (musical-wise) and even relationship-wise (although they could also be star-crossed lovers) with such shitty timing everytime 😂 i've supported joe and taylor for years, but I've got this inkling in my mind like someway and somehow, H and T might still find their way back to each other. Joe just seems meh :/ tbh.

i almost feel like i shouldn't answer this because it's a bit loaded, but it's 3:30 am so why not 😅💕

i'm going to first defer to my friend @cowboylikedean who said:

"they can be soulmates, but not romantically. Consider: their whole relationship has been leading to a friendship which was always destined, but needed a contextual foundation that only an ill defined on again off again/only communicating through sex then song could create. Consider that. Joe is Taylor's forever person. doesn't mean Harry has to be nobody."

we don't know if they've forged a friendship behind closed doors or not, and whether we ever know anything about that is up to them. their interaction at the grammys was warm and familiar, which at the very least speaks to their feelings of respect and kindness towards one another as artists and people. taylor's support for him was clearly genuine (though you could say that of her support for basically everyone in that room). i think it's really important and meaningful to acknowledge that there are a vast array of dynamics that can be considered a soul connection - not only romantic, but familial, platonic/friendship, artistic, those can all be transcendent and vibrant relationships too. i personally feel there's a soul element and connection within their music that needed to exist as a spark to get them where they are today. (had they not been what they were to each other, what would their careers even look like? what would 1989 be? what would hs1 be? etc) and they were also, in many ways, peers when they were together, and in unique positions of fame at a young age that most other people couldn't understand. their timing was consistently wrong/off, but that connection in their hearts and art still came through clearly. to me, it's part of the invisible string - they had to meet and have that complicated on/off thing and have love for one another to be on the paths where they were supposed to go, in different ways, and to be able to stand in a room together where they're both succeeding and both feeling gratitude for what all of that meant.

i think it's a disservice to joe to...not pay attention to what taylor has explicitly said about him, and why that relationship is so different and profound for her. i've seen a LOT of commentary lately about him being boring and not "getting" their connection, and it strikes me as somewhat unfair because we don't see it, we're not privy to it, and we shouldn't be, that is very much by their design. (she did say romance isn't dead if you keep it just yours!) but because someone like h is sparkly and charismatic and a musician, and joe is somewhat more reserved and less obviously visible and an actor, there's this sense that we "know" him less, which can easily seem less interesting, but keep in mind that how any fan sees him and how taylor herself sees and describes him are totally different. he's home to her, he's that gorgeous dream to her, he's the daylight to her, and that's what matters. he's who she's built her life with and found her peace with for many years now, and vice versa. h hasn't found that yet, but i hope he does. but that doesn't necessarily mean harry has to be nothing to her. whether that's fondness and recognition of their influences on one another and gentle nods to the past, or whether that comes in actual friendship, i think it's really important and valuable to acknowledge that the soul connection can happen and NOT be romantic, or initially be romantic/sexual and then transform into something else later, and it's no less of a cosmic pull. in one way or another, they'll always be connected, even if it remains in lyric and melody - and that's also always going to keep having a life of its own.

Just one? Probably Rascals, from TNG. There's so much potential for amazing crackfic-treated-seriously, if that were to happen in TOS. (see my answer for 23 below, lol)

If not that, then Remember Me, from TNG. Given how Kirk reacted to an empty ship during This Side of Paradise, I can see there being huge angst potential (and demonstration of his intelligence) in an episode like that.

And I'd love to see pretty much any of the animated series in live-action TOS, because it's a great look at what could have been, if they'd actually had a decent budget.

23. Favorite tropes?

Well, according to TV Tropes, it's apparently "close platonic relationships and H/C," which isn't exactly incorrect, I guess (more about the former in #47).

I particularly enjoy the "found family" concept I see as the future of the AOS, and episodic H/C from TOS, because the series tends to just skip over trauma entirely and it's annoying. I prefer a mix of darkness and humor, because solely one or the other isn't my cup of tea.

But my tropey guilty pleasure is crack!fic treated like serious fic, which works particularly well in the ST universes. If it's written very well (it isn't usually), I'd read bodyswapping, kidfic, etc. for hours.

I turned TOS Jim Kirk into both a child and an orange cat, at one point, FWIW.

47. An unpopular opinion you have?

That falling into bed with someone is not the only effective method of storytelling to demonstrate love, romance, soulmates, friendship, or any other kind of non-solely-sexual relationship that is meaningful. There's obviously nothing wrong with a sexual interpretation of a relationship; but as someone on the grayer end of the Demi spectrum myself, I've found it rare to find fanfiction that aligns with the opinion that other relationships can be portrayed just as meaningfully.

I'm guessing it's easy for most people to write sex, but somewhat harder to write the same depth of emotion without sex.

But to me, that is the primary reason why TOS succeeds where TNG doesn't quite hit the mark (and AOS fails miserably until Beyond), when it comes to building meaningful relationships between the characters. (It's amusing to me that the best demonstration we have of depth in Uhura/Spock's AOS relationship is in Beyond, where they were actually long broken up.)

But the beautiful thing about the ST universe is that it literally spans universes, and so is big enough for everyone to play in. IDIC for the win.

Have figured romantic and familial relationships ala the quadrant system from homestuck including my take on leprechaun romance. I spent entirely too long on these but please tell me what y'all think! Info is also below the cut for screen readers. Please credit if you use any of the ones I made…

An important note: Any of the romantic ones can involve intimacy/sex or not it depends on the relationship in question. Regarding both soulmate and foundmate relationships if it is an adult and a child the bond is always a familial one. Any of the relationships can be monogamous or polyamorous. Many bonds also may start as found but turn into soul over time via white/prism or red/heart. There are also many that have both involved (such as Ben Solo and Rey from the Star Wars sequel series being both “love/affection”/matesprits (soulmates) and “we can be great together”/ambitners (foundmates).

Each bond has a hue/flavor adjective, a hex code for the color and meanings listed.

Any of the bonds can include/start as platonic feelings/friendship because friendship is just that versatile. Technically any of the romance can be found or oul mate thee are jut general rules. However, familial relationships are separate from the romantic ones. (mint and star don't mix because one is familial and one is romantic, etc)

Romantic Soulmates (instant connection)

Matespritship (mate + esprit)/Heart: red (#FF0000) can be either soul (instant connection) or found (bond formed over time). Is flush and symbolizes “love/affection” and pertains to romance, though it shares territory with sellove due to being a symbol of love/affection in general no matter the type of bond.

Moirallegiance (Moira/fated + allegiance)/Diamond: pink (#FFC0CB) Is pale and can be seen even among family members because there is white/prism in it. It means “to have a best friend”.

Rhympatible (rhyme + compatible)/Balloon: fuchsia (#FF00FF) It is smooth and the meaning is “like attracts like”.

Starverence (star + reverence)/Star: orange (FFA500) Is bright and means a “celebrity or heroic crush turned to love”, or “pure admiration”.

Pursuitance (pursuit + romance)/Pot of Gold: gold (#FFD700) is shiny and symbolizes the “thrill of the chase”.

Appreagnetism (appreciate + magnetism)/Clover: green (#3CB043) is lush and symbolizes “a breath of fresh air”.

Shelender (shelter + tender)/Rainbow: blue (#0000FF) is cozy and means “nurturer and nurtured”. It also tends to be very cuddly.

Gambolship (gambol + relationship)/Horseshoe: purple (#A020F0) is cheeky and means “partner in mischief”. Sirius Black and James Potter would be a good example of this, even if they don’t end up together romantically.

Kismesissitude (kismet/fated + nemesis)/Fleur De Lis: black (#000000) is pitch and means “to have a number one rival”. The spades seen in homestuck canon are…not healthy. I chose the fleur de lis because it symbolizes french royalty and a proper rival makes you want to be the best version of yourself. (The spade from homestuck I thought about for a long time and figured that it symbolizes the toxic relationships like Gamzee/Terezi or Spades Slick/Black Queen. Aka plenty on Alternia but it’s not how proper kismesissitudes are supposed to be. An example of a good nonintimate/no sex involved kismesissitude is Goku/Vegeta from Dragonball Z. One that could involve intimacy/sex should they get together would be Seto Kaiba/Yami Yuugi if the latter had his own body.)

Auspisticism (auspicious + allegiance)/Club: gray (#808080) is ashen and means “keeps the peace”. Usually at least 3 or more involved in some way, so a lot of OT3s fit into this I’d think.

Diametrothal (diamond + betrothal)/Spiral: silver (#C0C0C0) is curly and means “opposites attract”.

Ambitnership (ambitious + partner)/Infinity: crimson (#DC143C) is ruddy and means “we can be great together”. Another example of this pair aside from Reylo is Sephiroth and Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7.

I love your thoughts about kiara and Sarah as best friends, they are so great together <3 When Kiara said to Sarah that she doesn't hate her and episode later she was the first one of the Pogues to trust Sarah, it melted my heart Do you think Kiara had romantic feelings for Sarah in het kook year? Many people consider them as canon, but for me it's hard to picture them as more than friends

i love kiarah with my whole heart! as a person who was raised on quite controversial examples of female friendship [blair x serena, brooke x payton, etc], i love when shows don't portray girls as rivals. and i loved that cleo's arrival didn't cause any drama between girls. so many shows would've added stupid jealousy to ensure female-driven drama, but thank you obx writers for avoiding this shit

there were so many small moments between sarah and kie throughout all three seasons, but i really want writers to show female supporting female more. i think the lack of female friendship can be explained because obx is written by men and even if they have female writers there, i don’t think that they have big roles in the writers room to add some layers to girls in particular, unfortunately the foundation of kiara and sarah to be modern example of female friendship is there, and not so many shows nowadays can provide that. i do hope that gen z girls who watch obx can see healthy example of female dynamic that doesn’t involve boys. it’s really great that sarah and kie don’t have the same love interest or even the same interests/hobbies/activities, they don’t share the same goals in life and it’s okay cause it’s how real life works as for kiara’s crush, i’m actually a bit torn. sure, i consider kie as bisexual, it’s my headcanon and you can’t convince me otherwise. and also i think that kiara is a type of “people need people” person, so when she was thrown into kook academy with no one around she needed someone on hey side because that’s who she is. i can also say that i think kie’s sign is a cancer, so her getting close with sarah and focusing solely on sarah is something that cancers do, but i don’t think that you want to dive into astrology with me lol

okay, i think that kie might have felt that she need to be close with someone to go through that life-changing period for her - and that’s where sarah comes into the picture. she is nice, she shares kie’s interests, she supports kiara by coming with her to feed turtles, so kie sees her as a soulmate and basically, i think [and you can totally disagree on this one with me] she considers sarah as a bandage to cover up a wound that left in her heart once she grew apart with pogues. so i think that's why kie, being a person who can’t exist [and most importantly have never existed] without strong friendship, clings to sarah

i want to say that kiara had a crush on sarah, but i just don’t want to somehow mess their beautiful platonic connection by adding romance into the mix

on the other hand, i can guarantee that if we were in the world where jiara doesn’t exist [what a lame world though], i would've been shipping kiarah with all i have. they are soulmates in my eyes, and i don’t think that anyone can convince me that they’re not

Alright, Righteous Flames! Now I'll answer four questions!

In case of pandoms wondering what you see a user with a cat profile popping a post. Who am I, you ask? I am GrayZeppelin, fanfiction author of my magnum opus series, Kung Fu Panda: The Mightiest Warriors.

#3 Biggest self-insert OCs?

So far, I have no self-insert OCs, which to be honest, writing a character of myself seems to be odd. So. . . I am not crazy about self-insert OCs. I read a few fics (not from KFP) that have character names of their own, the color of their hair, eyes, etc. I used to like their self-insert fics (well, I moved on from that).

#4 What kind of musics do your OCs listen to?

As I remember most kinds of music I jam with, there's plenty that involves my characters' fit in and their liking.

For instance, my boy Chen Xing has his favorite words while thrusting his six-inch punch at bandits. Compare the Dragon Warrior's shout "Skadoosh!", inspired by a song from a heavy metal band System of a Down, Xing roars "Chop Suey!"

Here's another song that matches my latest antagonist character Wang, when he was a victim of domestic abuse by his father Le (a douche) who forced his son to be more formidable. Most lyrics from the song Bohemian Rapsody from Queen fit Wang's perspective, despite being broken, loved his mother, hated his father, refused to be in sympathy, and many hated him (but his brothers from Lu Academy loved him). I don't know how I found out about his background story, but this music inspires many.

#5 What are some of your OC's biggest fears?

Very good question!

Since I have like a million OCs (not really, around 100 OCs and more) to look at their biography, I'll stick with one who has had his greatest fear ever since he fled from his old home.

Chen Xing hated fire. Not necessarily, but he reflected on a tragic event that caused the death of his parents. While carried by his grandmother Ming, sprinted into the forest, his mother was silenced by an arrow, and his father was burned alive. Xing remembers every moment that he wished to seek vengeance against his old enemy (Prince Huoju), who murdered his parents right in front of him, standing behind the fire.

But that's not all what he can prevent the other fear, he worries.

As the alpha and leader, Chen Xing makes sure none of his brothers and sisters of the Nine face jeopardies during their missions to end tyrannies. I have been thinking about making a fic that will change them before my first book A New Prophecy, what they experienced from their first mission, the Nine will never forget. (Hajin Province)

#7. What are your favorite relationships between your OCs (romantic or platonic)?

Yes! Yes!! A million times yes!

My favorite platonic relationship is between my characters Xing and his wolf sister Lotus. A brother and sister fond, raised together with their peacock brother Lao / Lord Dongji. The wolf and tiger are not together in romance, but they stick as best friends. What started their friendship, Xing and his grandmother found Lotus at Bao Gu Orphanage after their sow neighbor Mrs. Yan caught her eye on a lone cub with the caretaker.

Considering nightmares that Xing sees fire and unfortunate events in his dreams, his sister is always there to sleep with him, giving her brother much comfort as long as Xing wishes. Lotus, known as the Nine's Dancer, who craves dancing and fighting with ribbons, is a dreamcatcher. Chen Xing's soulmate.

I don't even see it as us focusing on Steve, we are focusing really on Robin, who focuses on Steve. The problem with R//ance is that Robin is so passive in that relationship, she's used as a prop for character development so the canonically straight girl is saved from men. Robin isn't seen as her own character in that relationship. All the things ppl say about R//nance, like both girls are just lonely and nobody gets them, isn't really a thing for Robin because she already has someone who gets her. But that relationship isn't romantic so it's automatically seen as less valuable. It's so unfair of people to accuse us of not understanding Robin when most R//ancers are Steve haters or at least not fond of him so they take Stobin out of the equation. Irl Robin herself would make this whole thing about Steve because he is her bestie who is in the center of it. It's true Steve doesn't own Robin, she can do what she wants but Robin isn't someone who would hurt Steve especially because she loves him so much. Steve doesn't own Nancy, and I don't get why people think Nancy would give a shit about Steve to begin with. It still would be alright for him to be hurt in that situation, if Nancy feels bad or not is her decision, but Steve is his own character who's allowed to feel upset. Making him a cheerleader so ppl don't have to deal with the mess that actually is R//ance reduces all characters complexities and is simply boring. Your ship isn't perfect, no ship is because the people in it don't exist in a vaccum and certain relationships have negative effects on other characters. I swear if the roles were reversed and Steve were to date Nancy's bff/platonic soulmate, a lot of people would make Nancy feel upset about it.

ohhhh i love that first line because YES!!! we are focusing on robin as she focuses on steve. also robin canonically brings steve into all of her romantic relationships ( tammy in high school which starts her hate/fixation on steve , then with vickie where she tells him everything) like i cannot see her willingly be able to do that with nancy at all because of all the complications. YES YES YES! robin is legit used as a prop i. her own ship - hell the way that ronance happened was by using robin as a prop. yeah like that really isn’t a thing for robin at all where she’s lonely and etc because she has steve. yep because stobin isn’t romantic it’s seen as less valuable which there was a big turn in fandom though where they used to be an important part and people would constantly write fics about them (i wasn’t really involved with fandom at the time but even just looking back at ao3 there were a lot of fics coming out of them being friends) however when season 4 came out everyone flipped on them sooo bad to the point where you have to dig to find stobin content.

legit season 4 was a massive change i. the fandom where friends couldn’t be friends anymore and romance is always highly valued. legit robin wouldn’t hurt steve! of course she’s her own person but what in canon gives away the fact that she would choose romance over friendship?!? she just wouldn’t!!! and yeah about that nancy giving a shit about steve cuz you’re so right ! god i hate how steve is just reduced to a cheerleader for ronance like it’s just gah!!!!! they just want to sweep all the messiness under the rug so when you say that steve would feel human emotions apparently that’s too much or inconsiderate or etc. like what?!? naturally you would feel upset that your bestie who also tried to wingwoman you in season 4 WITH NANCY apparently he can’t feel betrayal or hurt or like any human emotions because everyone wants steve to be a robot.

oh people absolutely would make nancy feel upset about it but because it’s steve and people hate steve again - they want to make him into a robot
