       born to ada tombs and a father of unknown whereabouts on the 26th of july 1980, alie tombs has always had the soul of an adventurer. the metamorphmagus would always find a way to wander off, which her mother got used to only after the girl (at the age of eight) had gone off to investigate some shiny pebbles on the pavement for the tenth time in the week (it was tuesday). alie has never been a good friend for the faint of the heart——always purposefully inserting herself into some mess, some sort of adventure, and laughing in the concerned faces of her loved ones afterwards.

‘i wouldn’t have done it if i was unprepared!’ she would exclaim.

well, alie, your mother who has barely lived a third of her very long witch lifespan doesn’t know that, does she? …………………..moving on.

alie has always seemed like she was a little bit of god a little bit of angel and a little bit of human combined. she has always been powerful and she has always been weird as fuck. ‘she talks to the bloody bugs in the bloody forbidden forest!’ said ron weasley, probably. ‘leave her be!’ responded hermione granger or luna lovegood in wildly different tones, probably. the girl is so keen on mapping the entire forbidden forest that she created a spell to read her books out loud to only her so that she can get into trouble without losing out on reading time. she has incredible potential to be a prankster, which the weasley twins definitely plan on doing something with. she loves a little bit of a curse, a little bit of a hex, a jinx, which draco malfoy unfortunately knows about (she hates his guts! for good reason too!).

she is also ridiculously curious about most things for a gryffindor, which caught the attention of one tom riddle (more on that later). she wants to study whatever magic has to offer, similar to how physicists study subatomic particles in CERN. she wants to investigate all things archaic, to explore, to understand….. it is no surprise that she wants to be an archeologist (or curse breaker. more or less the same thing. more on that later too, but perhaps another day).

despite the divided opinions on her personality, most can agree that she is free in a way most people aren’t: she does whatever she wants and makes sure nobody can say anything about it. how people say it….. well that differs. professor snape prefers the word ‘impertinent’. her best friends, ron and hermione prefer ‘daring’. her arch-nemesis tom riddle prefers ‘reckless’ or ‘headstrong’ or ‘madcap’. he finds her amusing. actually, lets get onto whatever’s going on with those two, shall we?

    you see, alie tombs met draco malfoy at madam malkin’s robes for all occasions in diagon alley before even getting on the train to hogwarts and promptly decided that she would NOT be sorted into slytherin, against all odds if needed. and the odds were that the sorting hat was very keen on sorting her into the damn snake den, but she said ‘no’ and the hat miraculously listened. what does this have anything to do with tom riddle and alie tombs, you say? well. tom riddle has slytherin energy vibrating out of his every single strand of hair perfectly gelled into place. and alie tombs? well, you would never think that the hat wanted her in slytherin——she is courageous and determined like nobody else. tom and alie? they’ve always butted heads. not in the way draco and alie have, no, this has always meant a bit more. always striking up an argument in the hallways, trying to one up each other in classes, irritating each other willingly so that they can have the others eye on them for longer, to have each others attention for a couple more minutes. they’ve been obsessed with each other for longer than they like to admit.

she likes his hair and his stupid smug smirk and hates his hair and stupid smug smirk. she wants to punch him with a kiss. she wants to make him trip with a jinx so that she can see his exasperatedly-amused-but-also-slightly-irritated face. she wants to say a bold-faced-lie to him just to see him raise that perfect eyebrow and to have him amusedly question her with that tone of his that annoys her so much. he likes her pretty laughter and the mischief that twinkles in her eyes and hates her pretty laughter and the mischief that twinkles in her eyes. he wants to cast the tickling charm on her just to hear her shocked laughter and to face the brunt of her prickly attitude afterwards. its all very lovesick and obsessive and they’re annoying freaks for the rest of hogwarts castle, because how are they not fucking already???????

let us pray that they get their shit together soon. there are many bets placed already .

Writing Tips:

Write a lot.

Don't worry about mistakes or editing. Just write a lot to get your ideas out. Practice makes better, and writing a lot will help you gain confidence. You don't have to post it anywhere of you don't want to!

2. Try microfics!

Microfics are a great way to practice writing certain ships, or just practice in general. They're also lovely for getting a feel of posting! They're low-pressure and low-commitment, which is lovely!

3. Find people to write with.

Whether it's people online or in person, find people to talk about writing and write with. It's very motivating and helps hold you accountable.

4. Be gentle with yourself!

This is supposed to be fun. Don't beat yourself up or be too hard on yourself.

5. Write down your ideas.

Ideas come at weird times. Write them down, because you'll forget them.

a muggleborn born in cochin with a midwife for a mother and a history teacher for a father. grew up lower middle-class in lancashire, the child of two hardworking but loving parents. i'm a proud older sister, though my sister viola likes to call me smothering-- i prefer loving.

magic was a mere fairytale for me up until the day i came to hogwarts, where the world seemed to grow just a bit more colourful and bright. and why wouldn't? the portraits talk! the chocolate jump around! the stairs can move!

eventually, this became my reality. going to hogwarts was the same as any other school, and i learned to love it, with a little less enthusiasm; though i'm still professor flitwick's favourite and a frequent at dumbledore's office, talking to him about most everything. life is a rollercoaster; and i'm always on the ride, with my friend marlene by my side-- alice, fatimah and carlos are behind us, of course. as the editor-in-chief of the hogwarts herald and the anonymous writer of the advice column (under the name miss mystery), i am always looking for the new scoop. the newspaper reports on everything; politics, sports, gossip, fashion, lifestyle. its big business, and its even read outside of the school, which makes my job even harder. lucky for me, its my passion; just as much of a passion as teaching. i tutor younger students and i love it. it's not all sunshine and roses, however. blood purity is a hot topic at the school, and muggleborns like me have become enemy number one. even my very own brother benedik has been radicalised, much to my dismay. i avoid the slytherin common room like the plague. viola does as well; she most stays at the hufflepuff common room with her friend pandora fawley. i can typically be seen in the library, trying to find a good book, or taking photos at hogsmeade. i actually do a small side gig of taking photos, which is actually pretty profitable. not everyone can work a magicam, after all. oh, and i'm often caught bickering with sirius black, who has made it his life's mission to try and win my affections.

sirius cygnus black III has been my admirer since day one, much to my confusion and occasional irritation. what's there to say about him? he's the hogwarts dream boat. tall, dark, handsome. or at least, he would be, if he actually bothered to get into any romantic relationships. nope, he only has two loves; freedom and..me, for some reason. the story he tells is that he saw me in a dream, the night before his first day. i was his ideal girl; pretty, smart, funny and kind. he thought it was just a dream..until he saw me in the flesh, in the hogwarts express. ever since then, his eyes have been set on me. if you thought that james potter and lily evans were bad, with james' totally obvious heart eyes that evans is completely oblivious to, you have not seen me and sirius interact. ever. he makes it business to open my doors, give me flowers, confess his undying love and propose marriage. is his affection true? i'm pretty sure it is. but i'm still somewhat scared..what if he doesn't like me, really? what if i'm just another way for him to rebel against his stuck-up pureblood family? and anyways, he's so immature. always pushing the slytherins around (even death eater wannabes like rabastan lestrange, arthur mulciber or severus snape don't deserve to be hexed) and pulling pranks. but, i can't help but care for him. worry about him. love him. could i be with him? i'm not sure. for now, the status quo is comfortable. for the most part.

Bowie Stark was born a wizard, apparently. (God knows he still doesn’t believe it. He’s tried to bargain with the sky about it. No response)

Before, he had quietly resigned himself to a future spent rotting at a desk job and being depressed whilst sipping a cocktail funded by his very fulfilling 9-to-5 career. And then: the letter. Addressed specifically to him, to his bedroom (his bedroom? okay, stalker? very rom-com of you, Hogwarts). Suddenly, everything turned upside down and a little sideways. He is delighted by this, of course, that his fate isn’t corporate hell any longer… though with the company he stumbled into on the Hogwarts Express, it seems his fate now swings between mildly dangerous, near-death, and certain death.

Obviously, this means he is best friends with Harry Potter. And proximity to the black-haired menace, the walking contradiction that has green eyes like bitter, brilliant candy means you are also, by default, flirting with disaster. But Bowie likes Harry, quite a lot. It’s impossible not to, when you look into his eyes, see past the iris and into his soul—unbearably good and unbearably tired. What Harry brings into Bowie’s life—gray hairs and a probably early end, yes, but also something like purpose—is worth the risk.

And Bowie has always been an outlier. He used to choose solitude with an odd sort of pride. He didn’t like other kids, and they didn’t like him, and it felt like a clean, manageable arrangement. But then came Ron—ginger, curious, chaotic—and Harry, with his strange mix of tragedy and charm. They broke through Bowie’s self-imposed exile with their childish joy and excitement in a single train ride, and to his mild horror, they never let him crawl back in. Hermione Granger came into the picture not much later, and Bowie liked her from the start—liked her brilliance, her impatience, her eagerness most of all—because he knew, like her, to feel ordinary and to suddenly not be. The four of them became something solid, something he’d never had before. Suddenly, he was taken away from the sidelines and put into the middle of something. Something loud, messy, warm… He was known. Bowie likes to think they saved him from himself. (He also likes to think he saved them, too. Maybe. A little.)

And then there’s Tom Riddle. That’s… complicated.

Tom is a Slytherin that is not like the others. Less annoying, more creepy. Quick, quiet, smart was Bowie’s first impression. When Bowie first sought him out, Tom was across the library—midnight, empty corridors, books stacked like Tom was hiding something behind them. Bowie was curious. He couldn’t help it. Tom Riddle was a puzzle that Bowie wanted to solve, destroy—rinse, repeat—and he had never been good at leaving puzzles unsolved. Their first real conversation felt like a test Bowie didn’t study for, and somehow still passed. Now, each time Bowie thinks he’s solved the puzzle, Tom unveils ten more pieces for him to piece together, and they’ve slipped into something strange. Bowie seeks him out. Tom allows it. Bowie is still intrigued, Tom is a willing participant, and their talks are electric and Bowie enjoys them more than he ever thought he could.

Hermione calls it a crush. Ron and Harry make faces whenever Bowie’s eyes linger too long in the wrong direction. Bowie ignores them all in his quiet affection. Tells Hermione she’s misused a semicolon in her potions essay. Tells Ron he has crumbs on his collar. Tells Harry he’s his favorite person and kisses his cheek for no reason at all. All petty revenge. All part of the routine.

Bowie Stark is half-veela.

According to the Ministry, that makes him half-creature. According to Draco Malfoy, it makes him a target. Bowie disagrees with both. Luckily, he’s quick and far meaner with a wand than anyone gives him credit for. The rest of Hogwarts’ populace sees him as Harry Potter’s strange extension—the best friend. Golden child of Professor McGonagall. Connoisseur of orange juice. Potions whiz. Boy with mood swings so intense they’ve been mapped by the astronomy club.

Bowie doesn’t care. To the people who know, he is both a genius and a dumbass. He debates the concept of mortality with the talking mirror in the dorm whilst dressing up (whilst Ron yells, Harry delightedly giggles, and Bowie continues preaching). He loves the colour pink most. He drinks copious amounts of orange juice. He reads whenever he isn’t making sure Harry isn’t going off and dying. He laughs at most jokes. He wants to join the quidditch team. He is daring and moral like his house predicts. He is kindhearted like Harry and sometimes selfish like Tom.

To Hermione, Bowie is the pillar. When Ron and Harry don’t understand her, he will, and he will give her temple a fleeting kiss and her, a beatific smile, to make her feel better. When she needs it he will edit her essays, and he will walk her to the library and sit with her for hours until she understands a concept for the next transfiguration test. To Ron, Bowie is the glue. When he falls apart, Bowie will scold him back to reparation. When he feels glum and far, Bowie will fish him back from the depths his mind dragged himself to. To Harry, Bowie is the sturdy, unwavering home. Bowie will laugh at his brooding and give him something to giggle about. Bowie will pinch and peck his cheeks when he pouts and let him cry when he needs to. Bowie will never let him die. And to Tom, Bowie is the blooming flowers in spring and the soft snow falling in winter—he changes the way liquids do, smoothly, and he always has Tom’s attention. When Tom needs something to pull him out of a dark mood, Bowie bounds over like sunshine and softly talks until Tom can muster a smile. When Tom needs to feel love, Bowie corners him and gives him love in the form of silly gossip and a willingness to debate about anything and everything.

As a first year, Bowie helped Harry kill a teacher. Accidentally, mostly. He is a changed boy after—he has learnt the highs and lows of adventure… or so he thinks.

Because as a second year, Bowie helps Harry slay the basilisk. Not as accidental.

Bowie hopes his third year won’t be as adventurous… he needs a break. He’s bracing for adventure nevertheless. After all, he is best friends with Harry Potter.
