Lil age chart for Ash for my own reference
Timeline lore under the cut for the like 1 guy that cares
Baby:
Faye brings them back from Hades as a baby again (no idea how that works just don't think about it)
Chirping and bird chick behavior
Gets found by the transylvanian govm and promptly sent to a lab to be studied and tested on
Design subject to change I just don't usually think about the raw chicken
Toddler:
Has metal tags in both ears denoting them as test subject 001 (though their DNA could never be studied or replicated so there were never more)
Harshly reprimanded for bird behavior
Prolly used for propaganda like "look we're working on a super soldier we're gonna have an army of them soon, fear us" (again, they just found them like this and they didn't do shit)
Easily scared and sickly all the time
Child:
The govmt finally gave up on trying to figure out a way to make more and started focusing into training Ash for combat since they couldn't even study their blood because it just melted through everything
Forced to practice gliding and flying, which considering that they had more down than feathers ended up in a lot of injuries
Malnutrition leads them to remain small
Befriends a romani kid who's somewhat good at tech and disliked but tolerated by the higherups for his talent. He makes Ash little mechanisms and doodads to make up for the inability to fly on their own
Withdrawn and quiet. Mostly only follows orders and doesn't ask questions (similar to Thor)
Has prosthetic legs that go over the bird legs made for them to look inconspicuous. Though that makes them limp around since they don't really fit. The arms can just morph idk
Teenager:
Juvenile plumage grown in (mostly), feathers uneven and patchy and unhealthy from malnutrition, but can fly on their own for the most part
Tail is the last one to lose the fuzz and still not really useable, so turning is like trying to swivel on an office chair without toughing the ground, it's jank
Gets trained on shooting targets from the sky but gets shot one day and has the realization that they were killing civilians the whole time, but they feel complacent and like they have no way out of this
Gets a mission on the western front one day and has a brief encounter with their future boss, Erika who was a new recruit at the time. They scratch her face up, while Erika catches them in an electric wire trap which leads Ash's bleeding to get burned into the skin of their throat
Their romani friend disappears one day and after months they assume they're dead and they run away through the forest through the Ukrainian border, ripping the metal tags out of their ears in case they're tracking them.
Gets caught and sent to the US as a POW and informant and gets put under the care of Erika, who's now a grand poobah over there and craves power. She very much does not recognize Ash as the one that scratched her, but wants their information so they can get revenge on the 'bird freak'
Ash changes name to Ash Miller from [REDACTED] with Miller coming from Morar that their romani friend had
Gets sent to different dimensions as a scout and never really brings back info (so i can put this beast in situations)
Adult:
asshole
Whenever they show up in armor and wings Erika assumes they're a different one from the one they encountered since their adult plumage is black now
needs a nap
that's when they meet Kratos and gang instead of going to where they were supposed to because they saw it in a dream idk
This is probably all over the place I'm not a writer word guy man
Also they have a tattoo on their hand like Atreus the whole time I just realized I forgot about it now pretend you see it

Controversial opinion - i feel like calling spy a bad father is like. Idk it feels somewhat inaccurate? Like Im pretty sure its implied that he did not know Scout is his kid, and like. Even if he did its probably for the best that an assassin/spy whatever doesnt try to keep a family, it would put a huge target on their back.
Like its more nuanced to me than just "well he wasnt there for them" bc he literally probably couldnt be there.
1): This is about tf2 which is a joke game with joke lore. I really do not have any vested interest in this topic, I do not take it very seriously, and if I lose my Sunday to Spycourse I will be very displeased. You can feel however you want about this character but don't come complaining to me about it!
2): I'm sorry but What are u TALKINGGGGG about he totally knows Scout is his kid that's the joke! He's the one who tells Scout that he's his kid, and he frames his leaving as a mistake he made when he was young, which is fair and makes sense, I do think people go way too hard on Spy tf2 for being a Bad Father and I do think he shows regret for the choices that he made (I think a combination of his line of work and poor judgement made during his young adulthood accounts for why he yknow. wasn't really around). Also there are one thousand jokes made at his expense about things like paternity tests - why would he be reading that "How to Beat a DNA Test" book in [definitely one of the update comics but I can't remember its name rn FUCK !!!!!!!]. He knows what happened n like, that's fine. I don't hate him or think he's irredeemable like some people do, from a serious character analysis standpoint he's a guy who made shit choices when he was young which happens all the time, and from a comedic character analysis standpoint he's off to visit your mother. lol!

TNR: What Could Have Been
I decided to continue from my previous THW post and come up with a new version of The Nine Realms. This spin off show would take place a thousand years (give or take) after the events of the AU version of THW. I’ve changed the characters names but feel free to picture them as they appear in the show.
Title: Flight Club
Premise: the characters live in Canada, and their parents work for a nonprofit called DRACO - Dragon Research And Conservation Organisation. The members of this org believe dragons should be treated as wild animals - they should be studied and protected, but not ridden or trained by humans. The five teens want to ride dragons however so they start a secret ‘Flight Club’ for it.
Protagonists
Leader: Kory Kullersen
Kory is short for Hickory, which is a source of amusement for everyone except him.
He knows he’s descended from Hiccup (he took a DNA test one time) and decides that he too is going to befriend and learn to ride a Night Fury.
He ends up befriending a Night Light (M) who is mostly black with a white stripe all around its body. This is why Kory names his dragon Oreo.
As a kid he was a member of the Scouts and knows how to survive in the wilderness. Which helps when he and his friends go off ‘camping’.
His uncle Robert (who may or may not be descended from Gobber) is a mechanic and taught him how to use tools/fix machines.
He sucks at using computers. He can manage his phone but that’s it.
Lancer: Julian ‘Ian’ Feng
Ian and his big sister are adopted and have two mums. One of whom is a Canadian named April and the other is a Chinese-American named Mai.
Even though he prefers being called Ian, his sister teases him by calling him July. They both joke that a third sibling will be called Augustus.
The two of them can read and write Chinese and use it to communicate in a secret sibling code (secret to everyone except Mei, of course).
Ian bonds with a Hobblegrunt (F) he names Hob-Nob. Kory gets annoyed that his idea to name a dragon after a cookie was stolen.
Ian loves aircraft and plays on flight simulators. It’s Kory’s idea to ride dragons, but it’s Ian who figures out the best way to do that.
He and Kory have a ‘vitriolic besties’ kind of relationship. They bonded over having stupid first names but also tease each other about it.
Heart: June Feng
June is the most organised of the group. She’s fond of calling her brother and friends idiots (affectionate) and reminding them to take first aid stuff, snacks, water and to go to the toilet before they start flying around.
She’s a big history/dragons buff and loves pestering Kory about his heroic ancestor. He keeps telling her it’s really not that big a deal.
Her dragon is a Windwalker (M) she decides to name Gary, as in gharial, a species of crocodilian native to Asia that the dragon resembles.
June is very passionate about protecting dragons and will swear like a sailor, in both English and Chinese, at anyone trying to hurt them.
This contrasts nicely with her well groomed, fashionable appearance. Which also contrasts with her brother, who is kind of a slob.
Between their mums, June is closer to April than to Mei, since April is a bit more supportive of her interests whereas Mei thinks she should focus on her studies.
Big Guy: Michael ‘Mick’ Angelo Gonzalez
He has a big brother called Leonardo, a little brother called Raphael and a little sister called Donna.
In case it wasn’t obvious, his parents are big fans of TMNT. Mick…not so much. He doesn’t hate the cartoon, he just thinks his parents went a bit overboard naming their kids after the main characters.
As their strongest friend, Mick is the ‘lifter and carrier’ of the group. He likes to be useful, but wishes he wasn’t seen as just ‘the strong guy’.
Mick rides a Thunderclaw (M) he names Rhino, because he loves animals.
He’s the one who suspects the dragons aren’t merely intelligent, but full on sapient, and with Alexa’s help comes up with ways to test this hypothesis.
Mick has a crush on June and thinks she’s the prettiest girl he knows.
Smart Gal: Alexa Baker
She’s the techie of the group, and her friends like to joke that Amazon’s Alexa was named after her.
Out of all the five, Alexa is the most nervous around dragons. She is particularly anxious when it comes to the more aggressive species.
The irony is that her dragon ends up being a Changewing (F) that she names Maple.
She likes to challenge herself by sneaking past her dad, who is head of security at the research institute they’re staying at.
Her dad and Kory’s mum seem to have a thing for each other, which is super awkward, because Alexa has a crush on Kory and definitely doesn’t see him as a step-brother.
Alexa has a great love of detective stories, escape rooms and other puzzle solving games.
The Dragons
Oreo: an adventurous and stubborn male Night Light who’s father is a Light Fury and mother is a Night Fury. Oreo grew up on New Berk until he set off to explore. He meets Kory when the boy is out hiking. Oreo isn’t scared of humans, but has no interest in having a rider. Kory’s persistence pays off however and he ends up rescuing the boy from a territorial Whispering Death.
Hob-Nob: a gentle and skittish female Hobblegrunt who is caught and studied by the researchers at DRACO, to learn more about her species colour change abilities. When Ian realises how desperate she is to be free, he lets her out of her cage. In her rush to leave she accidentally snags him and carries him back to her nest. He earns her trust by freeing her and also not harming her babies.
Gary: a playful and daring male Windwalker who is rescued from poachers but left with an injured wing. He splashes June with water from his pool when she walks by. She splashes him right back and the two of them quickly become friends. When she realises that he’s lonely without his pod, June spends more time with Gary, earning his trust until he offers to let her ride on his back.
Rhino: a grumpy and tenacious male Thunderclaw who is also rescued from poachers. He was left behind by his migrating flock and needs to recover from a broken leg before he can catch up. Mick is the one who takes care of him whilst he’s recovering, and whilst Rhino takes a while to warm up to the teen, they bond eventually. Rhino then decides to stick around with Mick after that.
Maple: a mischievous and inquisitive female Changewing who turns up to explore the research facility. She sees Alexa sneaking out and follows the girl. At first Alexa is really nervous and keeps trying to shoo her away, but it’s no good. Eventually the staff catch Maple and plan to relocate her. Alexa, not wanting her new friend to be sent far away, lets her out of the cage instead.
Antagonists
The Bully: Lee ‘Buzzcut’ Burns
An old bully/ rival of Kory and Ian, he shows up in the area on holiday (supposedly) and discovers the gang are riding dragons.
He demands a dragon of his own in exchange for keeping the secret.
Lee secretly plans to use said dragon to make money.
The gang do their best to keep him from both getting a dragon to abuse and from revealing their secret club to the adults at DRACO.
The Smuggler: Damien Evans
The leader of a smuggling/poaching ring that captures and sells wild dragons to various, often illegal, zoos and menageries.
He is an enemy of the flight club members by extension of being in conflict with DRACO. However, since they’re teens he doesn’t take them seriously.
Their first encounter with him is when they rescue a baby Featherhide that he’s smuggled from Brazil, even though it’s too cold in Canada for her.
Damien is greedy and arrogant. He thinks his connections will be enough to keep him from going to prison. Kory and the others become determined to prove him wrong and put him behind bars for good.
The Bounty Hunter: Jacque ‘The Ripper’ Kennedy
He claims dragons are dangerous beasts that must be culled for the good of society and the ‘ecosystem’, despite not really caring about nature.
This is really just a thinly veiled justification for his desire to kill dragons for glory and prove how tough he is.
Jacque is convinced he is descended from the Normans, who in turn are descended from Vikings, and sees himself as ‘continuing their legacy’.
The fact that it was Vikings who fought against dragon hunters isn’t something he wants to acknowledge. He doesn’t see the original Berkians as ‘real Vikings’. His idea of ‘real Vikings’ are white supremacists.

breaking down Ace of Diamond - the "Hero's Journey."
Using the model/guide presented by Overly Sarcastic Productions in their youtube video Trope Talk: The Hero's Journey, I will attempt to discuss how Sawamura Eijun's story in DnA is his Hero's Journey to becoming an ace pitcher in the Japanese HIgh School Baseball environment.
Blue from OSP put forward the 12 basic parts of the Hero's Journey Cycle. The illustration below will be our reference. I simplified a graph made by Signy Wilson in order to match OSP's less rigid guide.
disclaimer: I am by no means any kind of expert. I was just fascinated when I learned about the Hero's Journey as a general trope/framework when it came to writing stories. I want to apply what I learned by breaking down the story created by Terajima Yuuji in Ace of Diamond.
Tumblr media
A. ORDINARY WORLD
STAGE 1. THE HERO IN HIS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Hero: Sawamura Eijun. Captain and Ace Pitcher of middle school baseball team. He has no formal training in baseball whatsoever but was the one who gathered and convinced his friends to start a baseball club. He's the best player in their small team. Good at sports but bad at academics .
He is generally a baseball idiot and quite a naive/simple guy with a strong heart. He does not have any idea what competitive and pro baseball looks like because not only does he not have experience but also he does not watch the broadcasts on tv/radio at all.
Ordinary World of the Hero: rural town in Nagano Prefecture, where Sawamura formed a small baseball team with his childhood friends. Acording to him, as long as they all stay together they can always play baseball anywhere.
Tumblr media
STAGE 2. THE CALL TO ADVENTURE
2.1 Problem/why hero's ordinary world is going to crumble: - He lessened his chances of being scouted/accepted in a good baseball school after he btchslapped an entire opponent team and the umpires in their first and only match as middle school team in Saitama Stadium.
He also has low chance of being accepted into the high school in their area (where his friends are all going to) because he struggles with his academics a lot.
Unless he does something he won't be able to be together with his friends and/or play baseball at all.
2.2 Caller of the adventure - Takashima Rei pursues Sawamura into Nagano Prefecture in order to scout him as a sports scholar for Seido High School, a baseball powerhouse school located in the West Division of Tokyo Prefecture.
2.3 medicine/ solution to hero's crumbling world: being a sports scholar for Seido. This would solve almost all of Sawamura's highschool enrollment problem and also give him the chance to play as much baseball as he wants.
STAGE 3. REFUSAL TO THE CALL
3.1 reluctance to go: Sawamura refuses to leave Nagano despite Rei's "sales pitch" to him and his family. He doesn't want to leave his friends just to play baseball in a stronger school far away because he had promised his friends that they would always stick together.
3.2 hero punished for this - his grandpa literally smacks/slaps him in being stupid and doubting his friends.!!! / technically circumstances are already punishing him for being a hotblooded baseball idiot in the first place.
3.3 do you think you have a choice - this is probably the only chance he'll get to play baseball with all his strength AND finish highschool.
Tumblr media
B. EXTRAORDINARY / UNKNOWN WORLD
Venturing out into more competitive/pro baseball is a world beyond him. It's scary and unknown and he'd rather defeat bigger teams than leave his friends.
STAGE 4. CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
4.1 crossing physical threshold - Rei persuades him to at least check the school out with his own eyes. They leave Tokyo together for one visit.
4.2. crossing a metaphorical threshold - in that visit, sawamura, picks a fight with a senior who's bound for baseball drafts, works together with a nationally acclaimed catcher in defeating the senior player, thus changing his worldview because he had so much fun.
4.2. conscious and irreversible decision - Because of the experience he goes home conflicted. His family encourages him in their own way to follow his guts and heart and go to Tokyo.
Tumblr media
STAGE 5. REALM OF ADVENTURE
5.1 hero learns to navigate the unknown world - Sawamura learns the harsh realities of being in a baseball school once he actually starts to live there. Our boy also gets educated in Baseball and Pitching 101. He also finds out the true personality of the catcher he played with before.
5.2 meeting allies/rivals/mentors - he learns about the team better when he meets a whole bunch of people: batchmates, coaches and senpais. He builds interesting dynamics with all of them.
5.3 trials and initial failures - Sawamura undergoes difficult initial training and is barely allowed to play in matches.
5.4 meeting enemies - Sawamura being allowed to play as relief pitcher in the games and face talented pitchers and scary batters mostly in tense situations.
5.5 growth, new skills - Sawamura grows with each match, thus bolstering his confidence. Sometimes he falters but he learns from his mistakes.
5.6 first major success - striking out scary batters with each new thing he learns.
5.7 major challenge that leads to downfall - seido vs inashiro finals match where he goes in full of confidence and courage but then he and his team gets defeated in a devastating way.
Tumblr media
STAGE 6. BELLY OF THE WHALE
6.1 lowest point of hero where hero physically or metaphorically goes down - one month after their major defeat, a lot of intense practice matches and change in team dynamics, the team find out that Sawamura has the YIPS. This condition took away Sawamura's ability to pitch in his trademark style/ the only thing he was good at.
6.2 hero's darkest hour - without the ability to pitch, Sawamura questions his reality and why he is still on the team.
6.3 Face and overcome inner demons - with a lot of help from allies and mentors, Sawamura finds a way to bring back a bit of his ability.
Tumblr media
STAGE 7. ROAD OF TRIALS
7.1 Discarding old self - In the duration of his downfall and eventual healing, Sawamura turns to books, meditation and becomes even more careful in maintaining his form and body.
7.2 Accepting the new role - instead of fixating on the ace position like before, Sawamura is just glad that he is still allowed to pitch as relief.
7.3 Finding path out of the belly of the whale/The road back - After figuring out a solution to fix his pitching, he focuses on it and regains some of his ability. Sawamura is then allowed to play in matches. Just like before, he improves little by little as he recovers from each failure. He gains fresher mindset and new weapons, thus becoming an even stronger pitcher than he ever was before.
7.4 more trials - they face new opponent schools and old but improved opponents which test the best of Sawamura and the team's ability
Tumblr media
STAGE 8. PRE SHOWDOWN BREATHER
every major match in ace of diamond has this part of the story but usually the most critical breather episode is the one before the final match.
8.1 show humanity of other characters - Somethng bad happens to the other mc without Sawamura knowing. This could absolutely wreck their chances of winning the final match. This shows that the other guys are not 100% invincible after all.
8.2 last chance to relax. - calm before the storm. It is also the time where they finalize sawamura's weapons.
8.3 quiet moment to reminisce - usually happens before each match. However the night before the finals was the major one because their old senpais went to visit their practice and encourage them.
STAGE 9. CLIMAX / STEPPING UP TO THE CHALLENGE
9.1 Final Showdown - Sawamura helps in the team defense with the best of his ability and weapons and he succeeds. Their team eventually wins Fall Tournament even with a few setbacks.
9.2 Apotheosis - Sawamura's worldview changed once he realises that even with his improvement and skill, his goal of being the ace is still out of reach for him.
9.3 Ultimate Boon - Sawamura gets to be a pivotal member of their baseball team and can play baseball as much as he wants with his team.
Tumblr media
STAGE 7. ROAD OF TRIALS start again after the Fall Tournament Act 1 because Sawamura faces new challenges in Ace of Diamond Act 2.
Meiji Jingu Tournament - Play in matches without Miyuki
WInter camp and break - Intense Physical Training and development and improvement of his weapons which he will use and improve on throughout the rest of Act 2.
Spring Koshien where he realises that he has to do more in order to surpass the current ace which was Furuya.
Start of New Term/ Practice Matches - Sawamura and co. meets their new kouhai and team dynamics shift once again.
Spring Tournament / Summer Tournament - Sawamura meets old foes and new enemies. He also becomes the Ace Pitcher of the team, which adds more pressure on his part.
Tumblr media
ACT 2 STAGE 8. PRE SHOWDOWN BREATHER
This is the big and long one before Summer Tournament Finals match where injuries and problems were discussed and feelings were explored.
ACT 2 STAGE 9. CLIMAX
Final (Or most hyped and awaited rematch) Seido vs Inashiro in order to qualify for Summer Koshien Nationals.
**everything after this point will be prediction and just my opinion
STAGES 7-9 start again
Koshien Nationals Arc.
STAGE 10. CROSSING THE RETURN THRESHOLD
Miyuki/3rd years retirement/graduation. Sawamura and his batch will have to lead the team.
STAGE 11. THE REWARD
Sawamura gets to play with his team as ace pitcher.
STAGE 12 / STAGE 1. THE HERO IN HIS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Sawamura may become both ace and captain, same as his role back in his middle school team, albeit in a stronger school. Even if he won't be the next captain, as ace he will still be in a strong leadership position.
Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
That's how Ace of Diamond is written in the style of A HERO'S JOURNEY.
Act 1 writing especially followed the trope quite rigidly.
Notes:
I still don't want Sawamura to be the next captain. I hope that does not happen. However if it does, it means the story will have gone back full circle. That would be quite poetic ngl.
Gotta applaud Terajima's pacing. Can you believe that the story only reached its lowest and most pivotal point at around episode 70 of the anime???? thank godt that after ep 63 I read spoilers about yips arc in tv tropes or else i would have dropped the series completely.
I had difficulty in classifying the events after the climax stage into hero's journey stages because technically sawamura has not gone "home" yet. Moreover the challenges and trials just kept on piling up after Fall Tournament.
In this whole story, Sawamura has experienced only one true "Belly of the Whale stage" during his YIPS arc. I don't think he really came to a low point in Act 2 other than his first official match as Ace Pitcher. I treated that in the same vein as the effects of Raichi's first homerun off Sawamura back in Act 1.
I realized that having stages 7-9 recur starting from Meiji Jingu to the current summer tournament is what made reading Act 2 quite frustrating for me. That's at least 5-6 arcs of endless roller coaster ride loops.
I consider Miyuki's departure to be the "CROSSING THE RETURN THRESHOLD" moment because playing with him was the major reason for Sawamura's decision to study and play in Tokyo. Something will change Sawamura when this eventually happens.
As Blue from OSP said, the Hero's Journey is just a general guide/framework to writing stories. It is flexible, writers don't even have to use it or all of its parts to make a good story. Terajima just seemed to have adopted A LOT of the hero's journey trope in his baseball series.
I wanted to add more pictures tbh but tumblr is a killjoy :(
This was a fun thought exercise. There were probably even some parts which I have used the tropes wrongly. Please feel free to dispute me.
I talked about Sawamura's mentors here (x).

@breezycheezyart
“You’re sure you’ll be okay?”
“Takashi,” Ryou said, folding his arms and trying to give his twin the look his father - their father, he reminded himself, he was still trying to get better about doing that - would have given, “are you worried about me or the kid?”
“Both.”
He sighed and unfolded his arms so he could clap a hand on Takashi’s shoulder. “We’ll be fine.”
“I’m not used to you reassuring me,” he admitted.
Ryou couldn’t help chuckling thinly at that. “One of the first things I did when I got to the colony was look after the kids.” With help, but he left that out. He knew now that it had been a test, that the Alteans who had been helping him had been watching him as much as helping him watch the kids. They’d wanted to see how he treated them, what his base personality was like without the programming Haggar had done to him.
“It’s just that Alfor can be a handful...”
“We’ll. Be. Fine,” he said again. He patted his twin’s shoulder. (It was easier to think of Takashi as his twin than to think of shared parents or experiences, because that all just reminded him that he had this man’s memories, not memories of his own.) “Enjoy your quality time with your princess. You both deserve the break.”
“Yeah. Yeah, okay, you’re right.” A smile forced itself onto Takashi’s face. “You’re right, it’ll be... everything will be great. I hope you both have a great time tonight.”
“I hope you two have a great time tonight. Go spoil her rotten.”
The smile eased into something less tense and Takashi turned to leave, then half-turned back. “Remember what I said about the peanut butter.”
“GO,” Ryou told him with a laugh, making a shooing motion with his hand.
And Takashi left.
---
The Altean colony had been a perfect place to suggest for a “date night.” She still wasn’t sure why it was called that, but she wasn’t going to quibble over words when she had a night with her knight... well, paladin.
Hunk had packed them a picnic dinner, Keith had scouted out a perfect place to set it up: high up on a cliff, overlooking a valley lush with flowers, and Pidge had cobbled together a small speaker that played music Lance had selected for them from a list Coran had given him. It was a warm night with a breeze just cool enough to keep them from overheating, and the moons of Oriande were fat and lazy in the sky amongst the twinkling stars.
They ate and drank well, talked on matters both trivial and deep, and laughed together at inside jokes. Allura felt a peaceful contentment settle into her body, and made sure to share her happiness with Takashi through numerous nuzzles, cuddles, snuggles, and, of course, kisses. She almost didn’t want the night to end.
They took their time strolling back to the colony, hand in hand in companionable silence. She basked in the quietude: no screaming toddler or angry Coalition members to disturb her. Alfor should be asleep by now, she thought as they wound through the streets, so we should be able to just pick him up and take him back aboard the Castle and tuck him in. Then I can take Takashi to bed as well... She was looking forward to it.
The door to Ryou’s house opened upon recognizing Shiro - it did that sometimes, even when Ryou was already inside and the door systems should have recognized that; the DNA match was too close and it confused things - and the two of them walked in...
...to find Ryou dangling Alfor upside down by his ankles. The toddler was shrieking happily and his face was absolutely covered in what looked like peanut butter. His face and some of his onesie, for that matter. Toys were strewn about and the Black Lion plushie was on Ryou’s head.
He looked up as they entered. “Oh, hi. You two have a good time?” If he was aware of the chaos around him - or their shock at seeing it - he didn’t show it.
“What happened here?” Shiro asked.
“Huh? Nothing much. We’ve just been having a good time.”
“I told you about the peanut butter.”
“What? It’s not like he’s allergic to it. Let the kid make a mess now and then.”
“MESH!” Alfor declared.
Ryou responded by swinging his nephew around by the ankles some, causing more happy (and shrill) shrieking. After a few swings, Ryou swung him back upright, catching him up into a hug.The Black Lion plushie fell off his head and onto Alfor, who grabbed it up and promptly smeared peanut butter on it in the process of hugging it to him.
“We had fun,” was all Ryou said.
Allura exhaled and began to round up the toys they’d brought with them. “I had thought you would play with one or two toys and we were simply giving you an assortment,” she said as she gathered them into her arms. “I didn’t expect...”
“A toy-splosion,” Shiro finished for her.
“We played with ALL the toys.”
“ALL DA TOYS!” Alfor declared. Ryou blew a raspberry on the only clean part of the toddler’s cheek, earning more giggles.
“I’m surprised he’s still awake,” Allura commented mildly, depositing the first armload into the basket they’d brought.
“He’ll drop right off when you get him back to the Castle,” Ryou predicted. “I go for the ‘wear them out’ approach. Won’t you, Alfor?” he asked the boy. “You’ll go right to sleep!”
“SEEP,” Alfor repeated.
“See?”
And then Alfor opened his mouth and said a word that neither Shiro nor Allura had ever heard him say before. She stopped what she was doing to stare at her darling, innocent child.
“Please tell me he’s trying to say ‘fork’ for some reason,” Shiro said.
Ryou looked sheepish. “I... might have accidentally... I tripped and fell at one point...”
“Because you left toys scattered everywhere,” Allura commented.
“...and it just came out.”
Alfor said it again, because he was the center of attention when he said it, and he apparently liked that.
Shiro sighed. “I’m going to get a dishtowel to wipe him off.”
“You’re not angry?”
“I... don’t even know what I am.” He hurried to the kitchen area.
“We are grateful for your looking after our son tonight,” Allura rushed to reassure him. “But perhaps next time you should invite Romelle over to babysit with you?”
“Oh, that’s a good idea,” Ryou agreed. “She’d love the chance to spoil Alfor.”
“And maybe she’ll keep you from cursing around a toddler who loves to repeat words.”
Alfor said it again, louder.
“Sleep time, buddy,” Shiro said, reaching over with a toweled hand to start the de-peanut-buttering process. “Sleep.”
“SEEP,” Alfor agreed before thrusting the Black Lion at his father.
Shiro had to hastily put the towel between himself and the messy toy. “Yes, we’re going back to the Castle to sleep.”
“CASSLE.”
Allura looked up from her toy wrangling and couldn’t help smiling. Okay, so the evening had ended on... an unexpected note. But everyone she cared about was happy and healthy and if they also happened to be a bit peanut butter-covered, well, she could handle that.

"Never do that again."
tws: temp death, minor violence, broken bone
Scout’s hearing was a little messed up as he was trying to wake up. That was relatively normal for him. What was not normal was the fact that he could hear other voices that he did not recognize in the slightest. The first few weeks at Teufort had a similar effect, and negatively impacted his performance more than he would have liked, but that made for a colossal swingback once he was able to get some proper sleep.
So hearing new voices that he was certain should not be there set off alarm bells in his head.
“Kid’s still asleep, I guess.”
Part of Scout was indignant at being called a kid, but the other part agreed with that gruff, low voice. Pretending to be asleep in a hostile situation could be pretty beneficial to him.
“Well, it doesn’t matter too much,” another voice hissed. “Grab him and go. We’ve already got his y factor, and that’s what does matter. The brat doesn’t matter at all, really, but we need him to get to what we want.”
Scout stiffened, but tried not to let it show, as he had been picked up by someone who might have been just a little smaller than Heavy. They carried him out of the hall, and he squinted at his desk to catch a glimpse of the time from his golden baseball themed alarm clock. He had received it anonymously on his birthday, and while none of his teammates admitted it, Engineer did inform him that the compound was actual gold, and not just painted. He felt a warm glow every time he saw the time on it, and this time, though stressful, was no different as he beheld the yellowish 3:41.
Too damn early for this, in other words.
Scout knew he was taken outside when he felt the cool air on his face. He immediately recognized the buzzing, spaztic sounds of sapped sentries. That in turn made him wonder where Engineer was, questioning why he had not fixed the problem, and decided firmly that he did not want to think about that too much.
“Good, you brought him,” a high pitched voice that Scout very much disliked giggled. “Now the real fun can start.”
Scout was unceremoniously dropped onto the floor, and he popped right back up, folding his arms and giving a dissatisfied scowl.
“Ey, careful with the merchandise, Mann,” he snapped at Olivia. She only smiled wider, contrasted by the green uniforms of her miniature militia. “I don’t need any of this crap right now. What the hell do you want with me?”
“Oh, I don’t want anything with you,” she clarified, unnerving Scout all the more. Something was dead wrong with that kid. She did not act like a child in the slightest. “I want something from him, and he’s being very stubborn and not talking!”
As she spoke, Scout’s blue eyes followed the general motion of her hands and felt horror bubbling up in him at the sight of Spy. His suit was torn and bloodied, one of his eyes certainly swollen, and his arms were bound behind his back, his ankles added by another length of material that Scout did not recognize at all.
Olivia followed his gaze and smiled again.
“That’s a special type of rope I had made just for him,” she giggled again. “Frank was such a sweetheart to create it to my specifications. The more he struggles, the tighter it gets. He learned his lesson, now, didn’t you Mr. Spy?”
Spy spat some blood in her general direction instead of answering, but Scout winced nonetheless, knowing the truth behind the silent reply. Olivia snapped her fingers, and one of her grunts kicked Spy in the stomach.
“No, no,” Olivia shook her head. “Enough of torturing poor Mr. Spy. We’ve got a new playmate!”
Scout, who had been backing away to run for help, spun on his heel and booked it. A grapple grabbed his back, and at least five Gs of pressure exerted on his spine as he was snapped back. It made him scream out. Spy stared down at the ground in front of himself, not trusting himself to keep his resolve if he watched. They both were aware that Scout yelled about every minor injury, but neither wanted to see him hurt any more than that.
“Now, we all know that your precious respawn is down,” Olivia booped Scout on the nose. “And I really don’t want to kill you. Neither of you. But you, running man, have a lot less keeping your string going.”
“Merde, he’s just a child!” Spy struggled to speak with his cut lips. “He has a whole life ahead of him!”
“Will you talk, then?” Olivia challenged, stepping over towards Spy. Scout was firmly held between two of her cronies. “I would really appreciate knowing where that Austrailium is.”
Scout’s eyes went wide. Spy’s functional one met his, and Scout shook his head slightly, agreeing with the older man. If Olivia got access to any of that rare mineral, then they might as well kiss their lives goodbye regardless of killer robots or not.
Spy went quiet again.
“Break his wrist.” Olivia casually tossed the instructions over her shoulder, and Scout barely had a moment to think before the men grabbed his arm and hand, then twisted. He screamed the whole way through and peaked at the snap, yet could not even press his injured hand to his stomach as he had been grabbed again. Sure, he had broken his wrist before, what the hell did you think the guards were for, just punching? but this was deliberately slow and painful. “Talk, please. Tell me where the Australium is, and then I’ll leave you both alone. If you don’t… well, I wonder what kind of running career a man with broken femurs and spine could have.”
Spy howled in frustration, the tears that had been in his eyes from pain rising up with the torrent.
“This is not-” he struggled to compose himself, accidentally tightening the ropes on him as he tried to get into a more honorable position. “Leave him out of this.”
“Well, you, no matter how hard you hurt, aren’t talking!” Olivia barked, making both lanky men wince with the sheer adultness in her voice, yet at least the words she said were a little childish. “And I need my answers! So I’ll hurt the ones you love most! I know how much money and effort you spend and struggle with this one. A few DNA tests helped a bit too, but you practically admitted it yourself a couple of times.”
Scout tried his best not to listen to the treacherous words coming from the mouth of a child. He and Spy were… complicated. Spy did care about him, in his awkward way, and did dote on him compared to the other members of the team (well, they all doted on him in their own ways), but Scout, he knew that there was an iceberg between them that neither wanted to address, especially not in this way.
“Just leave him alone,” Spy begged. “His mother would kill me.”
Olivia shrugged.
“Then you’d both be dead.”
Spy swore under his breath, shifting uncomfortably. Scout gave him a look, telling him through a puffed chest and slight smirk that he could handle this, no matter what. If Spy could handle getting his ass handed to him on the dirt, then Scout could too. Hell, he even died before. This would be an easy game in comparison.
“I will not tell you where the Australium is.”
“That’s a pity,” Olivia sighed, pouting. “Well, then break the little runner’s leg.”
“Whoa, whoa, settle down there, little Miss Mann,” Spy and Scout almost cried out of relief, Engineer, coming in without a single weapon aside a fancy looking wrench. His overalls had been hastily pulled over his t-shirt pajamas, and the bit of grease on his face told of a man who had repaired his machines before going on out. “Let’s talk this out like civilized folk.”
“Hmph, hello Dr. Conagher,” Olivia nodded as politely as she could. “I guess I could try doing that.”
“Well, if you ask me, none of us would be in any of this mess had people just opened their hearts and mouths a bit more,” Engineer smiled, though it was impossible to see where he was looking. Olivia sat down at a solid looking table, and pointed to the chair beside her. Engineer cautiously made his way to sit down, running on a wish and a prayer. “Don’t you agree, ma’am?”
She blushed, clearly not used to southern charm nor being spoken to so sweetly, and she tampered down her confused emotions by drawing the knife from under the table and swiftly stabbing Engineer’s hand right through onto the table, and a sapper went just as neatly onto his Gunslinger.
“Engie!” Scout shouted at the same time Spy gasped, “Ingénieur!”
Said man had no reaction to their concern. Instead, he stared at the wound for a moment, then at his no longer functional prosthetic.
“Well, shucks.” he commented, as if the situation was as mundane as finding out your trashcan had been toppled in the night by Soldier’s raccoon. “I walked right into that, didn’t I?”
“Yes, you did,” she sniffed arrogantly. “And now, I can get back to the point.”
She punctuated the last word with a spin and slap to Spy’s already tender face.
“Hey, hey, don’t hurt ‘im,” Engineer protested. A bit of his blood started dripping down the table from his elbow. “He gave you his answer, he doesn’t want to talk. I dunno what you want, but it’s not worth killing two defenseless men.”
“Oh, you’d disagree if you knew what I was looking for,” Olivia sneered. “It’s only the most important thing in the world.”
“Love?” Engineer asked with absolute befuddlement. Spy, Scout, and Olivia all laughed at his bewilderment, making him flush with a touch of embarrassment. “Well, it was worth a shot….”
“It was cute,” Olivia smiled. “But no cigar. Just like that one’s wishes that you were his father.”
Spy’s eyes flicked to Scout and then down to the ground in shame. He knew that Engineer was a better father figure towards Scout than he ever had been; though with said man’s encouragement, he was doing a little better.
“Come now, it’s actually really funny!” Olivia insisted through giggles. “Scout doesn’t look anything like Dr. Conagher, and he’s not even a quarter as smart!”
“Miss, that’s just plain rude,” Dell scolded. “Scout’s brilliant in his own ways. If I was in a situation that needed quick thinkin’, I’d ask Scoot for help.”
Scout glowed at the praise. Spy smiled at the sight.
“Well, he’s also a quarter as ugly as you,” Olivia sputtered, confused by his parental nature. Engineer’s eyebrows shot up, and Spy felt a little bad for him as he noticed the slight tinge growing on his cheeks. “It’s a wonder that he’s got a fancy for you at all! After all, his tastes are much more… fabulous and expensive than you.”
It took a moment for all three of them to process what she was saying. The little blush that was on Engineer’s cheeks grew tenfold. Scout stared at Spy, who seemed so shocked that he lost the ability to close his mouth at all.
Then he closed it with a resolve so strong they heard it crack.
Or rather, his new cyanide tooth.
“Spah, no!” Engineer yelped, panic audible in his voice for the first time that night. “No, spit that out right now!”
Spy gave him a smile that struggled to hold in the froth that built in his mouth, and swallowed. Scout heard screaming that he did not know was his own until Engineer snapped him out of it with a hoarse shout of his own.
“Damnit Spy!”
Olivia was just as miffed, with all due honesty. With a viciously sharp scowl, she pressed hard onto Spy’s throat with the bottom of her dainty shoe, and when she was sure he was dead, spat on his body. Engineer muttered a curse, pale and with water building up on the inside of his goggles.
“He’s useless now. Let the others go, we’re leaving,” she huffed, getting into her limousine. She threw at Engineer his wrench, no longer caring.
“Damnit, damn, goddamnit,” he whispered, shaking. The two men holding Scout let him go on Olivia’s signal, and he ran over to Engineer, his own vision blurring from sheer emotion that he tuned right out of. Before he or Engineer even realized, the group of their assailants had left. “Pull out the knife, Scout, swift and smooth.”
Scout, not trusting his voice, nodded and did as he was asked. Engineer let out a shaky sigh as he flexed his sore blue fingers, wrapping them around his wrench.
“Grab onto me.”
Again, Scout listened. Engineer gave a last glance to Spy’s corpse and there was a bright flash of light, whisking them to home respawn. No one else was there to greet them.
“He’s dead, isn't he?” Scout asked quietly. The tears he had been holding in slowly started to drip down his face.
“He ain’t dead ‘til three coroners say he is,” Engineer tried his best not to snap, but those words scared him more than he ever wanted to admit. Respawn was a quick little trick to immortality, but only as long as it was working, and as long as the body was able to handle it. “I’m going ta try an overwrite. I need ya to spit on this.”
“Wh- spit? On that panel?” Scout’s sadness shifted suddenly to confusion. “Why?”
“Just do it, boy,” Engineer pleaded. “Do it and hope with all your might that I can get this ta work.”
Scout did.
Heaven help him, he hoped.
Engineer pressed buttons, shifted knobs, and slid the panel back into place.
A minute passed.
Then another.
Engineer slammed his fist onto the mainframe, yanking off his goggles, the tears that had accumulated splashing onto the floor.
“Damnit!” he sobbed. “No!”
Scout hesitantly patted his shoulder, and Engineer swooped around to hug him, crying into the young man’s chest.
“‘M so sorry, Jeremy,” he whispered. “I’m sorry.”
A warm glow hit them, and Spy groaned, rushing to rinse his mouth.
“Disgusting,” he huffed, and then Scout punched him, hugging him immediately after. Spy hugged him back gently. “Thank you for the warm reception.”
He stepped away to light a cigarette, and looked up to see Engineer’s stare.
The moment after Spy put his cigarette to his lips, Engineer stepped forward and wrapped him into a hug, holding onto him as though his life depended on it.
"Never do that again." Engineer whispered against his neck and shoulder. He was trembling badly, hands gripping tightly onto Spy’s suit.
Spy slowly hugged him back, ignoring the smoldering cigarette.
“I won’t.”

Marinette did not sign up for this pt2
forgot to post this before i passed out last night. part one here ao3 here
It was almost four years into being Ladybug when the Justice League made contact.
In that time, she and Chat had built the miraculous team and they both knew each members identities, but swore them all to not seek out one another’s identity. (Though Alya was Alya and had Carapaced figured out on his first outing… convincing her not to reveal that to him took a bit. The girl was determined, but Marinette follows Fu’s rules to the letter (as much as she can) and that meant Secrets Stay Secret damnit.)
Not contacting the JL themselves was partially due to some fallout the Mayor and Parisian government with a (dissolved) Justice League’s branch. It was well before her team’s time. Something about collateral damage and if her miraculous could fix damage dealt by JL members or not playing some role in that too.
She decided it was a good thing when two years later she found a fucking dagger with a large bouquet on her balcony. It became a regular occurrence for special occasions—birthday, winter holidays and on Easter (she didn’t even know why on that one. Her parents aren’t Catholic. Maybe Murder Robin was, or thought she was?). She would just find some weapon with flowers somewhere in her room. She had no fucking clue what Murder Robin (Alya found articles where the ‘new’ Robin was cited as likely having killed multiple people in Gotham and just, yikes) or his friends or even her father (Fucking Batman, the Ghost of Gotham) might have meant by leaving it, but it was clear they had her address, knew which room was hers, and could do a lot of damage if she toed the line. She wasn’t testing any of those ‘no contact rules’ after that.
Hiding a dagger and various other weapons (so many knives and throwing stars) from Maman by giving it to Fu and later passing it off as an eccentric gift from him to her for always helping him out was… an adventure when Fu was still Master Fu. She hopes Murder Robin doesn’t find out about that bit. She has no clue how he or his family (not hers, hers are in Paris with her. Hers at least tried to talk to her, tried to listen and did make time for her. His family? Complete strangers she may share DNA with.)
She (logically) should be terrified that Murder Robin knows her alias and secret identity are the same person; if he’s really one of the world’s greatest detectives’ kids, why wouldn’t he know? Batman must have known for years—why else would Murder Robin be able to find her? the DNA scan was in a closed match system to just Paris. And she knew there was no way Goddamn Batman, Ghost of Gotham, would hang around Paris long enough to get dragged into the system for him to have a ping.
He just did not want anything to do with her or her city’s trouble since it wasn’t his. She wasn’t his. Wasn’t wanted by him. That was fine—he has enough to worry about in his hell city.
Sending Murder Robin out to do his dirty work?
Not fine.
Her team and her were… managing the Hawkmoth situation. Keeping it from spilling out of Paris since Startrain. Goo-guy managed to give them a break—people can grab akuma that aren’t meant for them and become much weaker akuma than if the akuma reached its target. Same with the few that could grab an akuma in the air. It meant when akuma went out, some citizens were willing to bear Hawkmoth’s wrath for a bit—even groups taking turns sometimes—to prevent someone from getting akumatized until Ladybug could purify the akuma or Chat Noir could destroy it.
And for akuma battles, well, she has more than just her and Chat, Luck (Creation) and Destruction. Viperion gave them multiple chances to change costly choices in battle. Bunnix fixed the ones that Viperion couldn’t. All oversized opponents fell to Ryuko and her mastery of the elements, even if she can’t always make it thanks to different schools and tight schedules. Miss Sting was chosen by Marinette—Aurore was easy to lean on for news team reports and media appearances that Ladybug and Chat Noir don’t have the time or energy for. Plus, Aurored needed the anger management, so win-win. Don’t even get her started on Pegasus or King Monkey always being ready at a moment’s notice and how they both started joining Nino and Alya’s parkour dates that have morphed into group hangouts in last two years. Seriously—if she knew where she needed to be, Max was ready to answer her call. If she knew more chaos would work as a distraction, long live King Monkey, the Great Distractor.
Then there’s her emotional support in the field (besides her chaton), Carapace. He’s a great shield in battle, good with civilians and quick to defend. He’s also big on mental health (something their team sorely needed). How Nino managed to get turtle headphones, Marinette doesn’t know. She does know she nicks them from him regularly as Ladybug for team hangouts and when she needs to clam down on patrol.
Then there is her civilian bestie, the one who convinced her to stay as Ladybug, Alya Cesaire, aka Rena Rogue and the Ladyblogger. Rena Rouge is by and far one of her favorites to talk about potential Hawkmoths with, and work out akuma prevention techniques with. In the battlefield she was one of the first to strike (even if that’s not how she should be using the flute, Marinette has no room for judgment given how she uses all of her Lucky Charms.) Alya always posted and circulated anti-akuma tips and altered the Ladyblog to have each icon for known miraculous mean something.
Marinette was nothing but supportive of her friend, even if the blog is a behemoth to maintain and resulted in Alya retiring as her Deputy (Rose took over gleefully as Deputy). She liked that the Ladybug was for news, and the Cat for if an attack is ongoing. The Butterfly tracks akuma sightings before an attack, and was a bit on the nose in her opinion, but it’s effectively mapped out areas where Hawkmoth’s lair is or has an opening, giving them an area to investigate and patrol more heavily. The Turtle offered guided meditation videos and yoga sessions (somehow always on-going), while the Fox was for group chats and various akuma-related support groups. The Peacock offered mental health resources, and was constantly growing. The Bee was for self defense videos and sat next to Dragon for akuma survival tips. The Snake was one of her personal favorites, advice on calming down with guided breathing if someone feels close to being akumatized, and she’d used it herself more than once. The Horse was the one she’s the least familiar with, for shelter routes that she never used. The Monkey held a number of fun distractions, videos and memes uploaded by her followers with art and songs, and was overall very light hearted.
Marinette is proud of her team.
Though it doesn’t mean there aren’t days she’s waiting for it all to unravel, or for an Older Bunnix to appear again and tell her they have to undo the day Marinette’s identities were compromised. But that is a always an apocalypse event option only. Chat Blanc still haunts Marinette’s nightmares, and Alix’s too. the Princess Justice timeline haunts Alix since she lived it in real time, but it’s Adiren’s nightmare come to life in multiple other akuma attacks. Apparently if Marinette is akumatized, she brings about a second Reign of Terror so encompassing, it made Robespierre’s look like a child’s drawing of what a reign
It was during another Syren event when things went from workable to a slow boiling unbearable. All but Alix were transformed and fighting minions to clear a path for Ladybug to get to the main akuma.
Imagine her frustration when Aquaman and Aqualad appeared behind her while she was scouting on the outskirts, and both refused to make any eye contact, practically kneeling in water to her and making themselves a target. When they should be able to read the room and see that the battlefield isn’t the place for this.
“Oh Great Paschalítsa” Aquaman began, “I understand your hesitance in this matter, given the Miraculous and Atlantis’ history,” Aquaman continued as she dodged yet another minion further ahead and kept working her way to where the akuma was, ignoring his speech. “But I ask that you do not sink—”
Marinette gave up on her current task to ensure there wasn’t some international incident of Ladybug letting Aquaman be captured by akumas or something. She’d never head the end of it if she didn’t.
But now they were surrounded. Aqualad at least kept his attention on the task at hand (re: keeping minions from spotting her) as they all worked out a way to escape, even if he wasn’t looking anywhere near her. Apparently Aquaman got the message (finally) and did the same as his sidekick(?) after Aqualad made a few gestures she wasn’t paying attention to. She does have an akuma item to break and akuma to catch and purify.
The pair did manage to act as decent bodyguards and distractions while she worked out the kid’s item and how it connected to their fixation—no swimming until their grades up meant all of their gear but a whistle was taken away. One Lucky Charm and convoluted plot that merged fighting in 3-D, a pair of scissors and a lot off kicking off underwater buildings later, and Paris was back to normal.
She managed it without talking to Aquaman once. She could give quick directions to Aqualad without toeing the line—he wasn’t part of the Justice League and was known to operate in the ocean alone when Aquaman wasn’t there.
“Great Paschalítsa,” Aquaman began and Marinette wanted him to go off and leave her alone. Him and Aqualad. “As king of Atalntis, I humbly offer my aide in whatever has caused you and the great Mávri Gáta to show yourselves to the world.”
What was with all this formal speech? Marinette thought they knew French, or well, Alya mentioned it said they did in their bio, but it clearly wasn’t the kind her class used for projects. And Marinette was exhausted, frustrated, and now did not have a good and convenient target for her rage (re: akuma that drowned Paris) and well…
Well, she blew up. A bit. But can you blame her?
They wouldn’t take the hint. (Silence means Fuck Off).
“Look,” Marinette whirled on them, ignoring her team’s shock and not even going in for the celebratory ‘Pound it’.  “I told Murder Robin—“ the pair winces at the that wording. Good. They knew who she meant then.
“—that I won’t get involved with anything involving our dad.”
She didn’t miss the sharp intakes from her team. Chat knew, only due to a freak out over being left a freaking sword one time and she panicked, okay?
“And I meant it. Just because Batman felt guilty or something,” She doubted it. Ghost of Gotham doesn’t feel anything and can apparently take out entire buildings on occasion. (Even if she was pretty sure that was someone filling in for him, she wouldn’t discount it either.) “That Doesn’t mean I’m going to change my mind on the matter—My team has got this. And we don’t need a handout four years too late.”
They had to. Fu was gone (For three months now. Three months Marinette held the weight of being The Guardian on her shoulders alone. She had to have this. She wouldn’t trust random elements sent by Mr. ‘I accept my murderous son and ignore the one in constant peril that blew herself up twice to save Paris.’
“Bug out.”
She knew her team would have questions, but Chat could answer them for now and Miss Sting would be able to handle any questions if any the media tried anything. Bright side of having the main Miraculous Team journalist as Rena with a determined hacker Pegasus; if it was personal to the team, the pair made sure it was never there.

Later at JL HQ
Aquaman walked up to Batman once the meeting was over. Batman knew the man had something on his mind and that it was related to himself—why else would he keep looking at him during the meeting? Whatever was troubling the Atlantian, Bruce could only hope it wasn’t emotions. That was really, really not his department… Jonn was much better with issues like that.
“Batman, may I have a word?”
Batman nodded, quick to follow the other out into a more private room.
“It has come to my attention that your daughter and you have a, uh, tricky relationship.”
Batman raised an eyebrow, as his relationship with Cass was doing well… he thought. Maybe he should visit her more? She was doing fine on her own and was always warm to him when he visited her in China on her missions against the Triad. Perhaps he should see if she was open to working with him on a case on that, or see if she wanted to come to Gotham again.
“And I don’t mean to judge here,” Aqua man continued, obviously nervous. “But uh, apparently your current Robin is well aware of her existence.”
Batman raised an eyebrow under the cowl. “Black Bat and Robin are close.”
The way Aquaman’s face contorted indicated nothing good. “Your other daughter.” The man paused, waiting for Batman to understand. “Ladybug.”
Bruce… Bruce froze. “I don’t have another daughter.” Not to his knowledge.
Aquaman ran a hand through his hair. “Well apparently ‘Murder Robin’ has met her,” Aquaman said with air quotes of all things. “Years ago.”
Bruce felt his heart stop. Damian’s… adjustment into the family had not been easy. And a few years ago Damian was much more… willing to do things against the Batcode, things that had him thriving in the League of Assassins. Things that changed a person. Things he’d need to ask this Ladybug—his daughter, another surprise child—about.
“And given that a Ladybug being active has always been a sign of a potential apocalypse—“
Batman’s red flags began flashing. Hard. His child was in danger and fighting a potential apocalypse event. Without his help. Without Batman’s resources.
“I assume Ladybug is a mantel.” Bruce hoped she had a mentor, someone to ease her into hero-work.
“Yes.” Aquaman looked… hesitant then. “Were it not for one Ladybug’s mercy, my people would have died when Atlantis was sunk by her equal, the Black Cat’s user. It seems this time they’re allies this time, against the Butterfly—I, Batman, are you alright?”
Bruce was not okay, at all. There is an ongoing apocalypse event, a daughter he never met stopping it (how old was she? Was she Damian’s age or older? Younger? He didn’t want her to have to live with this life, but she was and was doing so without him, without his help, without someone he knew she could lean on for support) and apparently his youngest son was well aware of this and did nothing to help. Did not even tell him.
He was going to have words with Damian.
“Excuse me.” Batman turned to leave. He has a son to interrogate, research to do, and a daughter to find (beg forgiveness for not getting to her sooner, and help her) on top of the usual workload. A Bat’s work is never done.
Wonder Woman who stopped him while he was reeling with this information, her grip too solid on his arm, and unlikely to break.
“It is not wise to rush in.” She began, appealing to reason in the hopes of keeping a panicked “Batdad” from making the situation worse. “From what Aquaman has told us, she does not welcome your involvement,” she said slowly, hoping it would sink in. “The Ladybug Miraculous has always been an agent of creation, of healing.” Diana hoped that would set her friend’s mind at ease. Ladybugs were notorious for their battle prowess and strategies, yes, but first and foremost their duty was to undo damage. “Ladybug herself will have much on her shoulders if her role is anything like my mother’s when she was among the Chosen, and adding yourself to the equation before her adversary is defeated will only serve to distract her from her goal.”
Batman remained tense, but didn’t struggle against Wonder Woman’s grasp. Good.
Green Lantern was the next to approach, as planned. “So why don’t you focus on your family in Gotham before rushing into meeting this kid,” Green Lantern—no, Hal suggested. “We’ll work on finding out what’s causing this possible apocalypse. You get your house in order.”
Bruce heard the words that weren’t said. Find out what your ex-assassin son did your demi-god daughter and make sure he doesn’t screw up anything further.
“That is not—“
“Batman.” Wonder Woman squeezed his arm. “This is not a suggestion.”
Cold curled in Bruce's stomach. His daughter was in danger, fighting against a potential apocalypse, and he was told to sit this one out. When it was personal. (His daughter who he needed to meet, to learn about, to see what made her tick and work out how to help her wherever she might need it. His daughter who he had lost years with.)
(They were ordering him to lose more time with her.)
“You are benched from League activities until this is sorted out.” Wonder Woman continued, as though she hadn’t just gutted Bruce. “I will take lead on Ladybug’s case. My people have much experience with her and the Black Cat as allies.” It was Diana that was smiling then. “Perhaps Mother’s connection will convince her to allow our aide.”
Green Lantern nodded along. “And when I’m not with you guys, well, GL core is in charge of keeping things not-apocalypse-y across the universe and keeping it from spiraling. And Miraculous tend to like the whole Balance thing, so it shouldn’t be too much for me to help out every now and then with them too.”
Bruce twitched where he was. He wasn’t going to win this. Not by a long shot.
But they were taking Aquaman and a Green Lantern. Granted, at least it wasn’t Guy. But a Lantern. Over him. When it involves his family.
He had to get his house in order quickly.
--
Damian would say he was quite pleased with himself that day. He managed to decide the type of weapon that would help his sister defend herself against others best, given her profession as a seamstress, he was annoyed he hadn’t thought of it sooner. Selecting the type of needle to give her, and to ensure they could be used for fabrics to give her a reason to carry them on her person, was crucial however.
She had rejected his other offerings thus far, though he could hardly blame her. This would be his seventh attempt. He did hear it was a lucky number from somewhere… and he had gotten better since his last attempts at understanding the type of person she showed herself to be and the type of person she wished to be seen as.
The Swiss dagger on his first attempt was too bulky and not hidden enough for a style of fighting she should strive to cultivate. His second attempt was an ear dagger which were easier to use and she could add additional force with her thumb. He thought it was better protection for her, and it was small enough this time to be kept in her purse. Much better than his first attempt. Only from her pictures he knew it wasn’t ever in her purse.
He had failed to find her an acceptable apology gift that offered her the protection she needed. The third was when he moved to a larger blade, hoping the thin rapier could be hidden well enough as decorative or as a fancier fencing tool than standard. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility given her closeness to an Olympic level fencer and this ‘Adrien Agreste’ who often partnered with Tsurugi. He was glad she had taken to displaying it at the least, though Adrien claiming to have given it to her left a bad taste in his mouth.
His sister wished to not have it known she had her own weapons then, he could handle that. His fourth attempt was  going to be a butterfly knife but given legal restrictions that he had come to realize she would follow (as idiotic as they were) he changed it to a classic Swiss knife. He did see this carried on her person on occasion, but not often. He looked into more easily concealed knives and gifted her a ballpoint pen knife—it looked like a pen and he made sure to customize it to resemble the pens in her room (he took a sample for reference) and did see her often carrying that one, though by active attempt or chance he couldn’t gather. He decided she would need a long range item next, and gifted her a small variety of throwing stars (and a knife or two, she seemed to favor possible close combat weapons of those he gave her). He noticed that none of these were carried on her person (he may have bugged them with trackers to figure out her preference) and they rarely left her room.
That was why he concluded that this time needles that she could use for sewing or battle were his best bet. Finding a way to walk that line was proving challenging.
Father came in while he was making his selection. He did find it odd Father hadn’t mentioned her to the rest of the family, but it could be that he wished her a more peaceful life. Damian would not disrespect his father’s wishes by bringing her up.
“Damian, we need to talk.”
Damian furrowed his brow, running over what could warrant that tone. He came up empty.
Father did move closer and see he was looking at needles this time. And showed surprised.
“For Okhti Al Kobra,” Damian stated, hoping his father wouldn’t be upset at him recognizing her. He knew now it was better for her to be apart from them, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t do what he could to help her protect herself. His older sister deserved better.
Father did freeze at that.
Had Damian displeased him? (He wouldn’t… wouldn’t send him to back. Damian knew that. But that look… it brought back the boy that wondered when he’d be tossed aside by the Great Batman for no longer being a good solider.)
“Father? I know you don’t like to speak of her but.”
“You, you’re getting her needles?” it was a question. He didn’t get why.
“Yes, my last presents seemed inadequate. She has taken to the penknife, but only sometimes. She keeps the Swiss on her sometimes too—haven’t you been keeping an eye on her social media? She posts a disgusting amount. I figured given the boutique it wouldn’t be unacceptable for her to carry needles on her as a weapon and tool in the future, should anyone else discover our connection.”
Bruce stared Damian, waiting for him to finish.
“She does keep the flowers I left her, though she does react oddly. The first time she was very pale.” Looking back, it was likely fear. She was a civilian after all… “However I believe she has come to accept that even with distance, she is still a Bat by blood and as such, should remain vigilant.” Damian hoped his report was adequate.
“She… how old is she?” Father’s tone was softer then. but the question didn’t make any sense.
“Father, you should know how old she is.” Damian waited for the man to respond.
He didn’t.
Damian furrowed his brow. “Father, you do know who she is, right?”
“Ladybug.”
Damian blinked at that. He had no idea who that was, but he knew an alias when he heard one. “She’s a civilian—when did she—”
“Damian.” He stilled at that. “How old is she?”
Damian straightened then. “She was twelve and a half when we first met. She will be sixteen in two weeks.” Damian glanced at his abandoned screen. “She enjoys design.”
“Her, her name.” His father looked… lost.
“I, we don’t revel secret identities?” Damian was a bit lost. Father should know of his sister. They were only two years apart. She was from before his father’s training became serious. He should know of her, at least. And if he didn’t, wasn’t it a betrayal to her if he revealed who she was without her permission? Whenever he tried to visit, she was always elsewhere, and he couldn’t very well show up as Damian Wayne. That would reveal the family and she didn’t need to know that. Didn’t need that burden.
“She knows she’s my daughter.” Father sounded…desperate.
“She knows she is Batman’s. I didn’t reveal your identity, or the family’s.”
“I…”
Damian took a deep breath. He didn’t want to betray his family. Or further hurt his older sister. “I believe that we should speak to her before discussing her identity. It… it should be her choice.”
Father looked pained at that.
“I assume you don’t…” No, father would not know how the first meeting went… right?
Father said nothing before leaving.
Damian wondered if he should visit her sooner. He eyed his cart and got her a set of weaponry needles, knitting, and a set made for seamstresses with small hands. He hoped these were to her liking. Perhaps he should add white heather (Protection) and purple hyacinth (I’m sorry) in addition to the zinnias…. Or just give her two with the zinnias mixed between them, as Damian reasoned the heather and hyacinth wouldn’t looks the best together. Yellow (daily remembrance) and scarlet (constancy) zinnias with heather (protection) and some greenery should be fine, and purple hyacinth (I’m sorry) mixed with magenta (lasting affection) white (goodness) and perhaps a white daffodil (stay as sweet as you are) with a filler of some sort would work well. She accepted his apologies (albeit in flowers) before, and he hoped he had proven he was paying enough attention to her for her to see that he meant it.
He was glad he hadn’t killed her that day.
Now he had research to do to help his sister.
He missed Brown as she slipped out. And completely missed finding out she was messaging Todd, Drake and Cassandra the news: there was a missing Bat into design, goes by Ladybug, and Bruce has no clue what her identity is.
Cass didn’t send anything in response.
Jason stated he would find her before Tim.
Stephanie was just excited for another girl in the group. Little sister in need of help? Count her in—being Spoiler versus being Batgirl was a world of difference. Having a team made it easier, and it shouldn’t be too hard to convince the girl to give it a shot, right?

Thanks for waiting. part three here

debating which bat will find her first (in person), so feel free to state any preferences, and thanks for the comments and kudos--it really does help with working this idea out.

Coldsteel: Hot and Cold Part 3
Tumblr media
Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles are playing Mario Party as Amy gets salty saying everyone is targeting her because she's a girl. Sonic is winning and mutters "it's not cause you're A girl, it's cause you're low hanging fruit."
"What are you calling me ugly? Like I'm some rotted apple?"
A familiar crass voice says behind her "he's saying your weak"
Everyone looks and it's Shadow with his arms crossed exacerbated at their activities. Sonic jumps "What are YOU doing here Shadow? You come to fight?!"
"Unlike you, I don't waste my time with low skilled welps. You wouldn't be ready for a REAL danger with all this leisure activity."
Knuckles tells him to chill out and that he should play. Maybe pick Boo the ghost since he's all dark and brooding.
"I just came here to warn you about Coldsteel. He's up to something, I just don't know what." Sonic sits back down and grabs his controller.
"Oh is that all? That guy is even less of a threat than Eggmud..."
Tails interjects while playing still that Coldsteel is a cunning and ruthless guy, and his heart of gold only makes him more of a threat because he has passion and a motive behind his actions making him a superior villain. Sonic just mutters "are you still on that fanboy crap?"
Knuckles coughs and waves his hand. "Shadow put out that minty cigar or whatever you're smoking! It reaks! Shadow?"
Shadow isn't there and the smoke gets thicker where no-one can see what's in front of them. A hedgehog like figure emerges and grabs Amy who screams as the others realize they can't move or speak.
Unbeknownst to the others, her captor is Coldsteel. Who in her paralyzed state he ties to a chair.
"Nothing person-el kiddo. The paralysis should wear off soon... I just didn't want those losers getting in my way."
"What's this all about Coldsteel? Sonic is gonna destroy you when he finds me! Even a DNA test wouldn't be able to recognize you!"
"Oh wow it's already wearing off, that was fast..."
"That's right. I'm A strong, independent woman with an even stronger immune system!"
"Well, this ain't A controlled substance girly... I'll keep ya paralyzed as long as I have too to get what I want."
Amy blushes but pretends to oppose
"Wha...what?! Are you going to have your way with me?! But I'm Sonic's girl! I will scream until your ears bleed as you...ravage me like some sorta primitive Neanderthal!"
"...what?"
"I know a petite, sophisticated, WAY OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE girl like me must be irresistible to your savage instincts but when Sonic finds out you won't be going to normal bad guy jail. You'll be going to hardcore bad guy jail where like, subreddit mods go!"
"Nothing person-el kid, but no. I'm just gonna keep you here until the Stockholm syndrome kicks in."
"Oh...so I'm not good enough for you is that it?! You think I'm ugly too?! Well look at you, Barney the dinosaur looking ass mother fucker!"
Coldsteel has an annoyed bored look on his face and inhales his vape, breathing it over Amy's face to paralyze her again.
Meanwhile when the others come too Sonic goes running around looking for Amy before Knuckles and Tails can even say anything. Knuckles and Tails get in Tail's airplane to scout the skies for Sonic and see the blue blur heading toward Dr. Eggman's lair who is bossing around his robots to adjust this giant golden statue of him while he drinks lemonade and says "no no, over there! Stupid robots..." Sonic tackles Eggman and starts wailing on Eggman.
"Where is she?!" "What are you blathering about hedgehog?!" Sonic continues to pummel Eggman as Tails and Knuckles yell at Sonic to stop from afar. As Tails lands, Knuckles jumps out and pulls Sonic off of a crying and battered Eggman.
"Stop going Christian Bale on him Sonic, we know this had to be Coldsteel's doing!"
"Don't you think I know that?! But Eggturd here is the one pulling the strings!"
A tear of pain rolls down Eggman's swollen black eye as he turns to his side whimpering and pees himself.
"I somehow doubt that..."
As this goes on. Coldsteel is just sitting there glaring at Amy. Amy can talk again and snide remarks "you know... Kidnapping is a pretty serious crime! Those real super villains are just gonna love your Lilac color tone!"
"Well good thing you're not a kid huh?"
"I...you call everyone a...SONIIIIICCCCC"
He gets up furiously "What do you see in that dumb ass anyway?! I'm way cooler than he is!"
"Is that what this is about? Jealously?" "Kinda"
"People like Sonic because he's a kind, caring hedgehog who shows mercy even to those who don't deserve it."
Sonic is punching Eggman again "I know you did it! I know you did it!" Tails crying like the Simpson's meme "stop STOP! HE'S ALREADY DEAD!!!"
"He's also smart. He's like a Sherlock Holmes who can get to the bottom of an unsolvable mystery and have the answers to everything!"
Sonic puts down Eggman and says "Shadow!" Knuckles just mutters "Why would Shadow have warned us about Coldsteel if it was him?"
"And most of all he is selfless! He puts others before his own well being, especially his friends!"
Sonic shrugs and says "Enh, I never liked Amy much anyway..."
Amy glares into Coldsteel's eyes
"YOU are a petty little man who bullies everyone to get your way! You have no friends, and you suck as a villain! You're like..."
"What? Like Eggman?"
"Like Kevin..."
Dramatic music plays and lightning strikes. And Amy whispers
"Nothing person-el kid..." Coldsteel slaps her hard enough where she falls over still tied to the chair.
"Harder daddy!"
"What the fuck is wrong with this girl?"
The heroes are back home playing Mario Party without Amy and Tails sighs.
"It's not the same without Amy..." Sonic bored too responds
"You're right Tails. We need that fourth player... Your thumbs still work right Egghead?"
Sonic poking Eggman's nose with the controller while Eggman is in a full body cast muffling "I hate that hedgehog..."
Coldsteel sets Amy back up and she's still sassing
"Why do you even like me?!"
"I'm asking myself the same question..."
"You don't even know my name!"
"Yeah I do! It's, uhh..."
"You don't even know my name..."
"Sure I do! It's... Daisy?"
"No."
"Annie. Little Annie!" Coldsteel starts singing it's a hard knock life.
"I hate you."
The protagonists still playing and they just lay Eggman's controller on his chest, Knuckles says "maybe we should try harder to find Amy..."
Sonic tapping ferociously "She's fine..."
Coldsteel is in a scary clown mask revving up a chainsaw to her face "LOVE ME YA STUPID CUNT!"
"Learn my name ya stupid garbage person!"
Tails eating some chips "Amy could be in real danger..."
They're boxing and Amy knocks Coldsteel down in one blow reinacting Mohammad Ali's fight "WHAT'S MY NAME?!"
Knuckles goes to take a sip of soda, but stops before it reaches his lips when Shadow says "are you guys just gonna sit around and let this happen?"
Amy is singing Karaoke of Eminem "HI my name is, huh? My name is, who? My name is dikki dikki..." She puts the Mic up to Coldsteel's mouth
"Uhh... Tammy?" She pokes him in the eye with the Mic.
Shadow scolding these bunch of lollygaggers "Coldsteel is doing God knows what to your friend and you guys are just sitting around playing video games!"
Eggman is screaming under his bandages struggling and Shadow strips the mouth part so he can talk. "You fools do not have the faintest idea how serious this whole situation is! What those two are doing together is worse than any evil scheme I could come up with!"
Knuckles snorts "What? Some kind of fetish fanfic?"
"Worse echidna. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT..."
"Arby. Omg your parents named you Arby's?! I love Arby's! We should get Arby's!"
Amy hits him in the face with her hammer.
"Oh my GOD how can you obsess over me when you won't even learn my name?! You're insufferable! How could anyone stand someone who is an obsessed little worm in a completely one-sided infatuation and tics all the cringe tropes of a gendered stereotype?! I...oh...oh no. I'm everything I hate..."
"Arby's? But the twisty fries..."
"NO NOT ARBY'S YOU MOUTH BREATHER."
Coldsteel's hiding place rumbles as Eggman's grounder robot drills from the bottom and Eggman, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles jump out.
"Oh cool. Grindr! I remember you from the old animated..."
Eggman yells "Its grounder!"
The grounder robot says "naw naw, he's right... My date is just a block from here. Seeya boss." Grounder digs back down.
Sonic goes up to Amy "it's ok now Amy...you're safe."
"Don't touch me!" "What's gotten into you?!"
Eggman mutters "Coldsteel probably..." Tails, Knuckle, and Coldsteel do the black guys rap battle meme
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TFdvfrWS7XQ
"What's gotten into me?! I have wasted too many nights pining over an ungrateful, selfish, egotistical toxic masculine man whom barely even notices I exist!"
"Why are we here again? Oh hey Amy..."
Coldsteel walks up and puts his arm around Amy sneering at Sonic
"Heh...nothing person-el kid!"
"And YOU... You are a reminder of why self care and confidence are so important! Did you honestly think if you just kept me here long enough I'd fall in love with you? You still don't know my name! You're like those dudes who send money to egirls but tell your friends you have a girlfriend!"
Eggman yells BETAAAA in the back like Jesse Lee
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VRq4I1a1iVw
"I'm done with all hedgehogs. I don't wanna see any of you ever again. ESPECIALLY you Sonic!"
Amy just walks out. And Sonic says "geez what a bitch"
Coldsteel remarks "I hate to see her go, but I love to watch her leave..." Knuckles and and Eggman fist bump Coldsteel.
Everyone just decides to go home and Tails walking by Sonic
"So wait...does this mean Coldsteel never had any feelings for me?"
Eggman walks pass Tails "BETAAAA"

Twin Bond
Request by @loxbbg - Reader (Damian bio twin sister there both like 17 now ) gets maybe stabbed by there mother. And her entire life flashes before her eyes (like being trained till going to her father actually experiencing love. Kicking ass and while all that is happening the boys are racing to get to her and the sword is ripped out and she falls to the floor bleeding. And their trying to get her to stay alive but all she can do is smile. (Can end in fluff or angst)
Word Count: 2618
A/N: Just a warning, I did make this just a little angst at the end. My eyes sweated a little while writing this. I hope it’s good enough and not too bad. Enjoy!!!
It was just a simple mission with Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, and Red Scorpion, also known as Y/N. There was a huge top graded military gun ring that was starting up in Gotham. There weren’t many leads on how the guns were getting in or who was getting them in. Finally Red Hood overheard some low-level goons talk that a deal was going to go down tonight. So he got all the boys and Y/N to come along and help him in this mission.
There was an old warehouse in the middle of a shipping yard where the deal was going down. They scouted the place before and had their position set in place. Since Y/N was the youngest, smallest, and the most agile, they sent her on top of the warehouse to see what was going on inside.
“Red Scorpion, report. What do you see on the inside?” Dick asked through their earpieces.
 “Well, I see some guys moving a lot of boxes around and buyers lining up to see the guns” Y/N said back.
“Can you get a closer look to see who the leader is?” Jason asks.
“Yeah I think I can” Y/N says while moving in closer.
“Do not get caught. There are military-grade weapons down there that will put a giant hole in you” Damian says.
“You don’t have to treat me like a little kid. You are only older than me by 5 minutes” Y/N says.
“Don’t argue now. Can y’all do that back at the Batcave like you always do” Tim says.
“Fine, I am looking now. I think I see the leader. They just need to turn their head a little more,” Y/N waited on the leader to turn their head then she saw the person that she never wanted to see again, “Mother” Y/N says under her breath.
“What do you mean mother Y/N?” Dick asks, confused.
“She means our mother is here and is the leader most likely. Do not engage Y/N. We need to come up with a plan ” Damian says.
“She can’t be here right now. Why is she here right now? She already ruined my childhood and now she is ruining the place that I can home with these weapons she is bringing in” Y/N says getting angry. Y/N breaks the window and jumps down into the warehouse right in front of Taila.
“You ruined my whole entire childhood with training and other tests that broke me. All so I could be the best assassin, but that didn’t work. Now you are here in my new place that I call home with people in it that I call family with a parent that actually loves me. You are not going to come and here and mess this up” Y/N takes out her sword and she and Talia start to battle. All the boys start to make their way to the building to help.
“Oh, my sweet daughter. You could have had what it takes to be the best, but you were always holding back. You are weak. Never like Damian who had to do what had to be done” Talia says while they are battling which Y/N is holding on a little, but she is not skilled at the sword like her brother, mother, or grandfather.
“I am sorry my daughter” once Talia says that she disarms Y/N and plunges the sword into her. The boys see what happens and go on a rampage on everyone. Talia was able to get away with some other buyers, but that didn’t matter to them. Y/N was bleeding on the floor with a sword in her.
All Y/N could hear was a ringing noise and see a bright white light. Then all her memories started to come back to her. There were some memories that were a little hazy, but some were clear as day. The first memory she had was about the time where she and Damian were training when they were younger.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Come on Y/N, you need to be faster and think on your feet like your brother. Now again!” Talia was yelling at Y/N. Y/N and Damian went at each other again. Damian was holding back on the fight because he didn’t want to hurt his sister and make it seem like she was doing better. Even with Damian holding back he still won the fight.
“You weren’t going hard enough Y/N! Damian was holding back and he still able to defeat you. This is getting sad and you are going to be punished now” Taila said.
“No, she doesn’t need to be punished. Don’t do it” Damian says while standing in front of Y/N.
“Move out of the way she is going to get punished no matter what or do you want to get punished too?” Talia said in a stern voice and Damian shakes his head.
“Good now go to your room” Talia says while taking Y/N to the punishing room. A few hours later Y/N comes back into their room in pain.
“It’s okay Damian. I am okay, you don’t have to worry” Y/N says.
“Of course I have to worry. You are my sister and I have to protect you no matter what. I wasn’t able to do it tonight. I am a terrible brother” Damian says lowering his head.
“Now Damian stop it. You aren’t a terrible brother. You were trying to help me. I knew you were holding back on me to make it seem like I was improving. I am just not as good as you” Y/N says with a weak smile.
“Hey, you will always be good enough to me. We will always be in this together” Damian says while pulling Y/N into a hug.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next memory was from the time Damian and Y/N had to have their first kill
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N was standing in the middle of the room with a sword in hand, and in front of her is an old man that is a farmer in the village nearby. He was caught trying to steal from the league of assassins garden. They have no mercy on people who try to steal from them, his punishment is death. Ra’s wanted to see if his granddaughter had what it takes to kill when needed. This was a test, it would be Y/N’s first kill if she goes through with it. Damian had to do the same thing with the older man’s partner trying to steal food too. Damian did it without a second thought because he just wanted to make Ra’s proud of him. Y/N on the other hand was having second thoughts. It was hard enough to kill a person by yourself but having Damian, Ra’s, and Talia all watching her is intense.
“I can’t do it” Y/N says, dropping the sword. Y/N is about to cry but holds it back because she knows it is a sign of weakness and she can’t show that in front of her mother and grandfather.
“Of course you can’t do it. Why can’t you be more like your brother? You are just a disappointment” Talia said to Y/N.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next memory was from the night Y/N and Damian start to plan to leave
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I really hate it here Damian. I am sick of mom and grandfather just expecting me to have my life just being about killing. I am not an assassin like you. I am leaving” Y/N says while packing up her stuff.
“Wait you can’t leave now” Damian said to Y/N in a stern voice.
“You can’t keep me here too Damian. I am not happy here” Y/N says.
“No, what I mean is that you can’t leave just yet. We need a plan. I will leave with you too Y/N. We are twins, I am not going to leave you to go on your own. We are in this together. I will gather up money, supplies, and information. I am with you Y/N” Damian says smiling and Y/N give him a hug.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next memory was when they left
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I found something!!!” Damian said barging into their shared room.
“What do you mean you found something?” Y/N asked confused while waking up from her sleep.
“I overheard grandfather and mother talking about our dad. He lives in Gotham, his name is Bruce Wayne. I found out where he lives and we are going there tonight. I got all the money we need to be set for a while. Are you ready to leave?” Damian says.
“Of course I am ready. My bags have been packed for days now. Let’s go now” Y/N says and gets her bags ready. Damian packs all of his stuff that can fit in his bags. They sneak off into the night without anyone seeing them. They were able to get transport to Gotham and to get a cab up to Wayne Manor. They go up to the door and ring the doorbell and a butler answers the door.
“Hello, how may I help you” the man with a british accent asked.
“We are Bruce Wanye’s children. We have come a long way, so can we please come inside” Damian says to the butler in a stern, confident voice.
“Come right in,” the butler says and opens the door more for Damian and Y/N, “you may have a seat in the common room. I will also need some DNA from the both of you. Sorry to ask you kids to do this but it has to be done to be sure you are his children. There are a lot of people who try to claim to be Mr. Wayne children for his money. By the way, my name is Alfred” Alfred says.
“We aren’t here for his money. Just a few hours ago we didn’t even know that he was rich or who he was. All we know is that Bruce Wayne is our father. I just want to be loved by a parent for once in my life” Y/N says trying to stay strong.
“I believe in you,” Alfred paused because he didn’t know the kids names, “What are your names?” Alfred asks.
“My name is Y/N and this is my twin Damian,” Y/N looks over at Damian to see that brooding on the couch, “don’t worry, he is always like that when he meets new people” Y/N says and Damian groans. Y/N knows he is just doing that to act tough in front of everyone, but the Damian that Y/N knows is a softie on the inside. Y/N and Damian give Alfred their DNA. Alfred goes off somewhere in the house where they don’t know, but it was around 30 minutes later Alfred comes back with Bruce Wayne.
“Hello, Y/N and Damian. I am not going to lie, I am very surprised that I have kids. Your mother never told me about you guys, I haven’t seen her since that night. Anyway, I am happy to find out that you are my kids and I am happy to welcome you guys here.
“You got the test back that fast,” Y/N says, shocked not knowing how fast the batcomputer can work, “I don’t care I am happy to call you dad” Y/N says while getting up to hug Bruce. Bruce welcomes her with open arms.
“Oh and don’t worry about Damian he will come around” Y/N says and they both laugh.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next memory was when Damian was there by Y/N side
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I can’t believe that Nick was just using me for sex. That is all he wanted the whole time and never even liked me. I was starting to really care and like him. I am happy that I didn’t give him what he wanted” Y/N says crying.
“Look Nick is not a good guy at all, and don’t worry about him. I took care of him and taught him a lesson on how to treat women properly. But listen to me Y/N, most boys won’t be around for very long until you find the one for you. There is one boy that is always going to be around is me” Damian says and hugs Y/N
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Y/N was going through all her memories, she woke up in a hospital bed with everyone in the room. Everyone was saying that they are happy to see that she is up and doing well. Bruce went over and gave her a big hug.
“Thank you everyone. Now where is Damian? I want to see him” Y/N says while looking around the room but not finding him. Y/N can feel the tension in the room now and everyone's face has changed.
“WHERE IS DAMIAN!” Y/N scream.
“Hey kid, you need to lay down for this one” Jason says and explains what happen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flashback to right after Y/N got stab
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N was bleeding really bad. Damian came running over to put pressure on the wound.
“Help me stop the bleeding now!” Damian screams. He is trying his best to put pressure on the wound, but all he can think about is losing Y/N. He lifts up his hand to see what the damage is.
“There is a lot of blood but I can see that it hit her kidney and that is not good” Damian says.
“What do you mean? It is some good news. We need to stop the bleeding and get to a hospital to remove the kidney, we have two kidneys anyway” Dick says.
“It’s not good for Y/N or I because we got one of our kidneys removed at a young age. grandfather wanted us to go through a surgery and understand pain” Damian says while looking down at Y/N crying. He sees that she is just smiling.
“Why are you smiling Y/N! You better be fighting because you are going to live through this. You are going to get my kidney” Damian says.
“You can’t do that because that means you will die” Tim says.
“I don’t care! You don’t understand, I rather have Y/N live more than me. She is getting my kidney and that is the end of the discussion!” Damian yells and rushes Y/N to the hospital.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
End of flashback
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You mean to tell me that Damian gave me his kidney and his life” Y/N says with tears in her eyes. Everyone nods at her. They tell her that Damian is in the next room on life support. They were waiting on her to wake up to say her last goodbye. Y/N gets help out of the bed and goes to see Damian one last time. She goes into his room with a nurse helping her.
“Hey Damian, I know what you did for me and I have to say that was very stupid of you to do,” Y/N pauses because she is starting to cry, “I do own you my life though and I thank you for that. You are the best brother that anyone can ask for. You are always going to be with me. Literally though, I have your kidney. I love you Damian and will never forget you” Y/N says crying her eyes out. She then looks at the nurse to unplug Damian. The nurse leaves and Y/N is there for Damian's last moments.

A random AU that I'll probably be the only one giving a shit about. In the Moded Reach Apocalypse timeline, Bart Allen is an assassin. Bart belonged to the Hyperguard. The Hyperguard was created when Thaddeus Thawne the 1st joined the Light. He betrayed them. He sided with the Reach. He made the Hyperguard to take out all the threats. Meloni was trained and loyal to her father, thanks to the mind control drug the Reach made. She killed every assassin in the Council of Spiders. She was a weapon, and a damn good one too. Thawne decides that the Reach have to go when they start enslaving other humans. He sided with them to get rid of the Metas. When normal humans are enslaved, the Reach are now classified as enemies. He needs a better weapon because Meloni isn't good enough anymore. He needs something stronger, smarter, faster. Deadlier. He orders her to get pregnant. The Reach have already killed the last Kryptonians by blasting powdered kryptonite through the air. Atlantis has closed it's borders, and Mars is dead. Themyscria was never an option. So he decides to hit the Metas, and more specifically the Allens, where it counts. Meloni drugs Don and rapes him. He doesn't remember this. She gets pregnant, and the pregnancy is accelerated. There were consequences that Thawne failed to consider. Variables that he failed to make a contingency plan for. His grandchild is born five months after conception. He doesn't see the offspring of his daughter as anything more than a weapon made to follow orders, without question, without hesitation, and without any concern for it's own well being. It takes one month before the infant starts aging at hyperspeed, so Thawne puts it in a VR designed to train it to be a perfect weapon. He performs experiments on his grandchild, the goals of which would hopefully stop its aging, at best. At worst, he's collecting DNA to clone it. It takes three years, but Thawne finally fixes the problem. He still makes a clone, just in case. Thawne made a miscalculation with the programming of the VR. The VR made it a weapon, but the VR did not make it loyal or obedient. There was a disconnect between the VR world and the real world. The VR was designed to adapt to its mind. He was unaware that his grandchild's mind is even faster than its physical body. It grows up in a VR. It is three chronological years old, but twelve physical years old. It has lived three hundred subjective years in the VR. It is the ultimate weapon. It knows the endgame. It knows its mission is to kill the Reach, it's spent three hundred years training for it. The weapon is deployed as soon as Thawne is sure that it functions perfectly, after he tests it. First, he sends it out to kill the Brain. It succeeds. Next, he sends it to take out Queen Bee, Black Manta, Lex Luthor, Sportsmaster, Count Vertigo, and Deathstroke. It succeeds. Finally, he sends it out to kill Ra's Al Ghul and Vandal Savage. Klarion flees. It succeeds. He finally sends it against its original targets, The Reach. He starts by sending it out to kill the Reach Scientist. Once she's dead, he sends it out to kill the Reach Ambassador, then the Army. Once they're all gone, the final pieces are Black and Blue Beetle. It never misses a shot, it never shows itself, and it never fails. Thawne fears his creation. He fears that it will rise against him, because he knows it will win. He's not strong enough to face it, not even Meloni is, so he decides to get rid of it. The ironic thing is, if Thawne hadn't been so afraid of his perfect weapon, if he hadn't betrayed his grandchild, even if he'd never showed it any care of love, it would've been loyal. It would've stayed his slave forever, if he'd never tried to get rid of it. Because of Thawne's paranoia, he ordered his daughter to execute his weapon. She took it away to a remote place where she could kill her child in peace. His weapon was going to just let it happen, but Don Allen, the fastest man alive, saw a kid being threatened while he was patrolling for the suddenly missing Reach, and decided he wasn't gonna let it happen. He saved his child, and brought the kid to the Resistance. Upon being asked for a name, the child responded that it was a weapon, it had no name. It was considered a machine, not a human being. It was a Meta, not a person. Everyone was horrified. It takes three years for them to accept that they're a person. They don't care for gender or pronouns or even what clothes they're wearing. In those three years, they never aged a day. It baffled the doctors until they got a hold of their blood to check their DNA. They find out that they're Don's kid, and there's a lot to process. They already bonded with Don, not a lot really has to change. They finally pick a name, instead of always being called kid. They take their paternal grandfather's name. Bartholomew Allen, with Wallace as a middle name, because he was Don's hero. Fast forward seven years, Don dies, and while the Reach and the Light are gone, Thawne is now in control, and Metas are still experiencing things that are worse than death. So Bart decides to travel back in time, to change things for the better. To make sure the Reach, the Light, and Thawne never win. Bart arrives just like in Canon, with everything happening just the same, until when Bart saves Jaime. They tell him that if the Reach get him On Mode, Jaime will die by Bart's hand. Bart explains their past as a weapon, and Jaime vows then and there to always be there for Bart. It might just be his crush on the young speedster, but Jaime knows that Bart deserves the chance to be happy. Bart reciprocates the crush, although they don't confess first. They're a master at hiding behind a mask. They've had three hundred years worth of practice after all. Khaji-Da doesn't want to admit that he's fond of Bart. Being fond of Jaime makes sense since Jaime is his host, but Bart was illogical. Bart makes things better than in Canon. Wally doesn't die because Jay Garrick joins them, and they have enough speed together that no one ceases. Bart keeps Impulse, and Wally goes back into the hero business with Artemis. Bluepulse OT3 is the Endgame. Bart lives happily, and for the first time in their life, Bart learns what it means to live. To really live, not just survive. Bart is already a master at surviving. Bart doesn't like talking to anyone about their past, but they don't really want to bottle it all up either. So they learn how to draw, how to sketch, and how to paint. They let art be the medium through which they tell the world what they've survived. Barry and Iris learn what Bart's been through, and they both decide that Bart deserves to be able to make their own choices. They both support Bart in all of their decisions. No one tries to control Bart's life. Bart has freedom, true freedom, for the first time in their life, and decides that it's about time to try experimenting with their life. They're still sure that gender doesn't matter, but they start trying different clothing combinations. They eventually settle on punk style clothes and medium length hair. They realize they like skateboarding when Jaime introduces them to it. They're not pretending to be happy anymore. They really are happy, for the first time in their life. Things are going great. So of course shit starts to go down. Reports start coming in about Impulse robbing stores and injuring random people. The heroes give airtight alibis for them each time, until a mission goes spectacularly wrong, and Bart is forced to use their Speed Scouts to save their teammates. Suddenly their alibis aren't as airtight as they thought. No one, not the Flash fam, not the Bat fam, not even Jaime, knew that Bart could make Speed Scouts. When questioned about it, Bart tells them all that they haven't needed to use their Scouts since before they came to the current time. This puts Bart under a ton of scrutiny. Eventually, it's learned that Thaddeus Thawne the 2nd, Bart's clone, was sent to follow them and get rid of them. When Bart went to the past, they made an alternate timeline instead of changing their own timeline. Thawne the 1st knew Bart wasn't dead. He knew they were alive, and that Don saved him. Meloni hadn't been prepared for him, she hadn't anticipated his arrival, and that's why he was able to get Bart in the first place. So Thawne the 1st ordered Thad to kill them. Thad gets redeemed in the end. Thad also doesn't care for gender or pronouns. They just want freedom, same as Bart. Thad dyes their hair outrageous colours as a fuck you to Thawne. Eventually, Thad winds up falling in love with Bart, Khaji-Da, and Jaime. In that order. It ends up as a polyamorous four-way relationship.

Fusionfall Headcanons: Belladonna and Buttercup
Normally, I try to keep pretty close to what’s already available story-wise from the game, but there’s so much that doesn’t quiet fit with the Belladonna/Buttercup plotline--memory loss or no--that I’d like to take my own crack at what might’ve happened.  Her nature embodies “spice,” but she chooses to stay in a band rather than fight in the war?  Ace, her boyfriend, and the rest of the Gangreen Gang have supposedly known the whole time, but are letting her remain oblivious just so that the former doesn’t lose a good thing--to the point of keeping her from her family, who could possibly help her get her memories back just by being around them, all while everyone kinda needs her on the battlefield?  And just when does she get her memories back if Ace is telling anyone who recognizes her not to “mess with the program?” There’s just a lot that’s weird, and even if it can be pinned to plot holes, I’d like to try to fill those in. This might work better as a theory for Legacy, since I read they’re potentially splitting the character(s), but, taking a dive with some of my personal thoughts, let's begin:
When Buttercup went missing, most of the city was dumbstruck and upset. They had everyone searching for her without success.  When the war with Fuse started, they really panicked, scared over how the PPGs would help fight off this new threat without their toughest member. It took a lot to keep up morale, the remaining PPGs trying to encourage civilians by staying strong despite their grief and pointing out the aid of the Fusion Fighters’ growing numbers.  And for most people, this worked, since they figured there was nothing they could do.
Not everyone gave up searching though.  While most people were busy fighting in the war, there were others who still wanted to find Buttercup.  Mojo Jojo was one person, because of his guilt, sending Monkey Minions to continue looking for her.
And then there was the Gangreen Gang.  They didn’t want to join the war effort, as they were already establishing their band and just didn’t see themselves measuring up as soldiers for multiple reasons, but they figured staying on the lookout for Buttercup was the least they could do--sending her off where they couldn’t and maybe even boosting their reputation a bit. They knew every crooked nook and cranny of the city, so it made sense to them.
Finding Belladonna was a stroke of chance, and the first thing they did was try to drag her with them to force her to join the fight and “reunite with her sisters.”  However, they soon noticed that something wasn’t right: Not only did she not recognize them, she also wouldn’t fight back much despite protesting and showed no sign of having Buttercup’s powers.  Because it wasn’t her, just a lookalike.
Belladonna was actually just a regular girl, and one who was kinda in a bad place: Rough around the edges from living a hard life, but not really one to get physical. It took a while for the Gangreen Gang to realize this though, as they honestly thought “Buttercup” had lost her memories and just needed some sense knocked into her.  It wasn’t until Belladonna got scared out of her mind by a few of their attempts to “help” and she proved her own identity with extensive details into her own, personal life that they eventually realized they had the wrong person.
Needless to say, they had a rocky start, but Belladonna did agree to try to help them find Buttercup, as she actually did admire the PPG even if she thought she didn’t have the means of doing anything on her own.  In this timeframe, she eventually joined their band and she and Ace gradually fell in love.  She became bolder and he genuinely tried being a good boyfriend who could do a bit of good for the world as well--even if he and the gang couldn’t completely shake off some of their criminal habits.  All the while, the Gangreen Gang continued to try to use a network of other, small time criminals to find Buttercup.
When the band was in public, some people had already fallen for the same mistake that the Gangreen Gang did by thinking Belladonna was Buttercup.  The group decided to leave people guessing, noticing that it gave others some hope (and helped bring in crowds to their concerts). They even went so far as to steal some of Buttercup’s clothes from the unguarded Utonium household. However, these rumors eventually reached Tech Square, and while no one could prove anything, this is partially what inspired Dexter to use the Power Level tracker to find Buttercup first.
The Power Level Tracker didn’t work at first because of the similar traces of DNA found between Bubbles’, Blossom’s, and their home’s locations--although it was largely blamed on the two sister’s similar signatures.  Meanwhile though, there was a small sample of DNA on Buttercup’s clothes from a bit of hair stuck to the fabric. This is what leads us to Belladonna in the events of “Ms. Missing.”  (This accident is also why we’re given one of the real Buttercup’s jackets specifically as a sample for her nano.)
Caught red-handed, but unable to tell to truth, the group came up with a lie quick by pretending “Buttercup” had amnesia, and pushed for her to stay with them for her sake. While this still forced them to become more involved in the war effort than they wanted, it also kept Belladonna from getting into a fight she--in reality--couldn’t face and from having to meet the other PPGs, at which point it’d be obvious that she was a fake.  And the longer the situation went on, the harder it was for them to tell the truth, as more people started to believe that “Buttercup” was ok and would be back in action eventually.  Belladonna didn’t want to let them down or cause trouble for both herself and the gang, so she’d played the part.
As for where the real Buttercup is during this, my theory is that she got captured by one of Fuse’s scouts early on--most likely one of his other, alien allies--when he was figuring out the planet’s strengths and weaknesses before attacking.  She spotted them first and gave pursuit, but lost from being in a weakened state and without her sister’s backup.  She was imprisoned as an initial test subject, to see what Fuse would be dealing with, but kept away from fusion matter itself so she wouldn’t die on him--instead made to watch from afar and hearsay as he tore her homeworld apart.
Oh, she broke out eventually--and she was not at all a happy camper when she got back to Earth, already in a pummeling mood!  If it weren’t for the fact that she had a doppelganger to deal with first, she would’ve made herself known to everyone; however, what few people she did reveal herself to thought that she was the fake--either some kind of shapeshifter working for Fuse or an improved Fusion.
Around the same time--in the timeline before we’re sent back to the past--both the Gangreen Gang and Belladonna were getting in over their heads, the latter wanting to truly fight for the planet instead of disappointing people by lying and being unable to protect them in the end.  But she simply couldn’t, too weak and untrained to even really use a gun very well.  The group was overrun by fusion monsters by the time Buttercup found them, and Buttercup had to forgive them for lying and taking her identity since she’d left her family grieving and the planet with one less hero--bitterly understanding that they did what they did with mostly good intentions.  After that, Buttercup took her place on the frontlines, taking pieces of information she’d gathered to keep up the lie in honor of Belladonna’s efforts.

Unsustainable - (8/9)
Tumblr media
!Disclaimer: I do NOT ship the people on the banner or any gifs showing up in the fanfic. They helped me visualize and are part of my writing experience. Much love for Tom Holland & Cody Christian!
Summary: An accident happened in which the reader has gotten powers. The reader is struggling to adjust to his new powers but also to keep them secret from Peter as they become closer.
Pairings: Peter Parker x Male Reader
Word count: 2694
The Raven sat there, its tail feather calmly blowing by the breeze from the window. The simple dinner was sufficient to regain some strength. A homemade salad with some chicken, backed in garlic and sweet soy sauce. A snuff of garden herbs to finish it off. You grab a piece of chicken and hold it up beside you, tilting your head to one side. Making way for the Raven. The Raven hops towards you and climbs onto your shoulder. With its beak, it gracefully picks it from between your fingers. You continue to feed him several smaller pieces. Soon after it hops back and takes place in the window.
Looking out over the city. Meanwhile, you feel the headache start to subside slowly. Exploring your new powers drew a lot of energy. Not only physically but also mentally. Communicating with the Raven was difficult at first. Requiring a lot of focus from your nerves to concentrate on the sound. But also separating your own thoughts from the thoughts you ‘told' the Raven. Since it was always around, at school, in the bus, walking home. The information it gave felt if your mind went into overdrive at first. Overflowing with things to process. Keeping your focus on everyday tasks was hard. Hearing voices that aren't there. Not following conversations made to you. It got you into several awkward situations. Multitasking was something you had to grow accustomed to fast. But within several weeks its potential what could be had shown itself. You knew what happened five miles away from home. When ordering a pizza, knowing exactly where your order was. If the bus ran late, you knew. Bad weather coming up. You knew. A sense of clairvoyance surrounded you. Every time taking it a step further. For once, to test your power, you tried to order the ravens around. You had control over the ravens in the area. Not knowing how many, but instead of receiving the information you wanted to send them on a quest for once.
  Standing on the roof, in the afternoon light. You send them out. After mere minutes, the results came in. One by one, ravens landed in front of you. Each and every one of them holding a coin in their beak. The bowl in front of you filled up quickly. Pleased with the result, you counted the money and treated yourself to a sweet milkshake. As a way to celebrate success.  But the next morning your actions turned out to be disastrous. It was all over the news. Ravens snatching coins out people's purses, robbing fruit stand owners of their hard earned money and many more. YouTube was full of videos people getting attacked by ravens. The ravens weren't to blame, it was your decision. Your responsibility. All because of a little ‘experiment'. Learned the hard way.
Recollecting the training of today was more successful. From a mere touch, you would be able to transfer your human consciousness into that of the Raven. Easier said than done. Seated properly onto the roof, you tried several times. Sharpening your nerves, focusing your senses, concentrating your breathing. Slowing your heart rate. In the course of the day, you managed, though it was short-lived.  You managed to glide through the air for a couple of seconds as the Raven. An incredible feeling, feeling the cold wind, the freedom. The unlimited possibilities flashing before your eyes. But the short connection resulted in a substantial headache. Though in the future, he was convinced you would be able to do it without touch. The headaches were something you grow out of. Nosebleeds don't. Unfortunately.
 The bell rang. Must be the pizza delivery guy.  Faster than expected.
You're eyes widen in disbelief, nailed to the floor, throat falling dry. The hairs on your arms rise at the sight of the person standing in front of you. You try to stammer out a few words, but fail to do so. Words fall short to welcome your guest. Luckily he invites himself in as soon as you open the door. "Here, on the house kiddo." Stepping inside, his eyes survey the room. In your hands, you hold the pizza you ordered just minutes ago.  You stand there, unable to comprehend what was about to unravel in front of you. Looking at him as he wanders around the living room. "Nice touch on the family pictures. How cute." Holding the frame with your 5-year-old birthday pictures your way. As if he's looking for a comparison. "S-Sir… I… what." The many thoughts racing through your mind, block any communication. You had spent many nights thinking about what you wanted to say to him when you would meet him. Day in, day out you pondered about what you wanted to tell him. The feelings you had, the anger, the rage. But now the rage you felt towards him has locked away deep. "Calm down kiddo. Call me Tony. We gotta talk." His hand firmly grasping yours, the other on your shoulder. What follows can solely be described as an awkward handshake. Your arm was more like a rag, as you stood there dumbstruck staring at him with big eyes. "Better start on that pizza. What is keeping him?" Stark looking down the hallway. Seconds after, down the far corridor the sound of boots fast pacing across the marble stone floor came closer. Dad. Suited in a black suit, blue tie and phone in one hand he storms towards the door. An all too familiar sight in all those years. "I will. Yes, Johan. Yes… Of course… You know me right. Ok. I tell him that. Gotta go. Bye.” Coming to a standstill just at the door. “I knew it. That’s my boy. That trip to CERN wasn’t for nothing. C’mere. Gimme a hug.”
 “Right, let’s talk. I got great news for you (Y/N). And I wanted to get your dad’s approval before I got here.”
 “I-…I still don’t get it.”
 “Stark Industries is scouting for young talents. We’ve been doing so for years. We want the best and brightest minds together. And doing in-house training and schooling is the best method there is. And you sprung out in the results on school. The trip to… CERN. You got a bright mind, kiddo. Not to mention, your friend Peter did a good word for you as well.”
 “I knew you got the best parts of me. Such a smartass.” Dad proudly affirming before Stark could continue.
 “Yeaaah… So… Let me have a word with the kid for a moment." Pressing one hand on your shoulder, and the other waving your dad away. You watch him turn towards the study, while on his way he shoots you two thumbs up with a big grin before turning into his study, shutting the door behind him. Leaving you with Tony Stark alone. "Listen kiddo. Since you are still in school. I'd like to offer you an internship. Something like your friend Peter is doing right now. But somewhat different. We'll work out the details when we get there." While Stark sits you down and continues to lecture you. You feel zoned out. Numbed by what's happening. His words don't seem to reach you. You only feel your heart rate increase. Pounding in your chest. Not only the fact that the famous Tony Stark was addressing you personally, but how everything just went south. How could this have happened? Does Stark have a clue about your powers? Did Peter have a say in this? Going to that tower is wrong. They'll found out in minutes. Stark's tech will scan you, maybe take a DNA sample while you… Your mind races, jumping from one conclusion to another. Imagining the worst scenarios. Not only for you. But also for you ‘ally'. All the while Tony Stark is still going on, showing holograms and projection schematics around the room. The scenarios running through your head made you so nervous, that speech became almost impossible. The lump in your throat not helping either. You at least try to make out some words.
 "B-But I…" Nothing more comes out. Your throat falls dry as soon as Stark turns his attention to you the moment you try to speak. Leaving you speechless.
 “You know what, before you do anything rational. How about we do a tour around the Stark Tower first? Meet some of the Avengers, perhaps see their jet. You’ll love it. FYI, I already got your dad’s permission. I’ll inform your dad and make Happy bring the car around. You… eh… wanna dress up perhaps?” Pointing out your sweatpants and sweater combination.
 In a disillusioned way, you stumble to your room. Picking a suitable attire for the tour, you rumble through your closet. On the other side of the apartment, you hear to two men discuss something. From this distance inaudible. You reach out for your phone, ripping the charging cable out the socket. Trembling fingers play around the screen, dialing the number you never meant to forget. Hiding behind the closet door, you bring the phone to your ear. The line connects, then several weird technical sounds creak through the speaker. Your heart skips a beat, a disturbing sound. Afraid someone might have heard it. You peek around the door of the closet, keeping an eye out for the door. The line connects thoroughly as the other side seems to have picked up the phone. You have a feeling someone is listening. No time to waste. "I need help. T-T-Tony… Stark here and is taking me to the tower. Please… Help." You try to whisper.
 "I see…" The short sound rang with bitterness. His voice still instilled goosebumps when he spoke. Breaking the line shortly after. Leaving you with nothing but questions. "You ready?" Stark standing in your doorway. Watching you nervously stuff your phone into your pocket. "Looking better already." His eyes running from top to bottom. "Follow me."
 The drive was nerve-racking. Your body was shaking, it was barely controllable. If your feet weren't bouncing up and down, your knee was. Every piece of nail left on your fingers fell victim to your wandering mind. Staring out the window, expecting something. From somewhere. Pulling hope from the smallest sound, the simplest event. When stopping for a traffic light, your eyes scan the crowd passing by. Your eyes run by every person coming past. Hoping that someone would do something. Hoping they would be involved. To save you from this crazy rollercoaster. You saw the Raven swooping by from time to time. Having nothing to report. Panic started to kick in. Only a few miles to go. You could just jump out…
 “Something is incoming sir.” Happy glances back at Tony, sitting behind him. “Seems to be one of your suits sir.”
 Tony grabs his phone. "I didn't do anything." His finger swiping across the screen. A touch on the side of his glasses opens communication to his AI. As well as revealing the glass roof in the car. You turn your eyes to the sky, looking left and right for any sign. Meanwhile, Starks addressing his AI with commands.
 “Closing in fast sir.” Happy nervously awaiting his boss’s order. “Northeast, one o’clock. Coming from 54th Avenue. Low altitude.” All eyes turn to the front of the car. In the far distance, over the traffic, the light of thrusters can be seen as they turn the corner. Coming straight for the car. “Happy, activate defense matrix. I can’t seem to disable it, and I don’t wanna take a risk.” Happy’s hand reaches for the central panel, hitting several buttons and swiping through menus. “Stay close kid.” Starks’s hand resting upon your shoulder. The single touch makes you jump right up. “I get it, you nervous. Don’t worry. It’s gonna be alright.”
 In silence, the three passengers watch as the Iron Man suit closes in on the car. "Shit! Hold tight!" Happy shouts. On the suit, from both shoulders, small boxes pop up. Releasing a swarm of bright illuminating missiles, closing in even faster on the car. What started as a small cloud of missiles now turned into a maelstrom of tiny orange colored missiles. On the streets, panic starts breaking out. Cars reversing into each other while large masses of pedestrians run past the car, looking back in fear of the incoming swarm of missiles. Two large arms wrap around you, before you can react, you are pushed flat onto the seat. Tony Stark protecting you, holding you tight to his chest.  His eyes shut tight. “You’re going to be alright,(Y/N). I’ll pro-”
 Stark's last words fall silent in the abhorrent, excruciating sound of pounding and ripping metal. The wave of missiles hammering the exterior. Rocking the car on its wheels. Bright orange flashes color the windows. The smell of burned rubber and smoke fill your nose. There seems to be no end to the uninterrupted stream of missiles. The sound of glass cracking and explosions all around drown out all other sounds. Eventually wrapping the interior in complete darkness. Tony Starks grip didn't let go as you feel yourself being thrown around, hitting the roof, seat, and back up again. The explosions seem to be getting heavier and more frequent from all other sides. Shaking the car so heavily you don't know what up and down is anymore.
 Suddenly the cars rocks from side to side and silence fell upon the car. Slowly opening your eyes, you take in the damage. Dust, smoke and torn leather seats, stained with blood. What once was a car was now a horrible mess of warped metal and hanging wires. An occasional spark from the dangling wires breaks the silence. How are you still alive? Shoots through your mind. Because of the adrenaline you only manage to feel several small cuts itch onto your skin. Other than some minor bruises, you can still move your legs and arms. Though your muscles feel sore and stretched. You look at Stark, slowly pulling himself up. His glasses show several cracks, a small cut on his forehead and pieces of glass scattered on this back. None seems to have made its way through his jacket. "Y-You're hurt?" His voice sounding rasp.
 Looking over the top edge of his glass, breathing heavily. Slowly try to get back up. Checking his surroundings. Happy groaning from the front. "Sir? You alright?" As you feel your head spinning. You hold on the door handle. Your intestines feel entirely off balance. Your stomach is about to be turned upside down. As you feel something coming up. A strong push on your side of the car sends it flying several meters until it collides with something. With your last strength left you manage to hold onto the door. In horror you watch Tony being smacked into the door. Happy befalling the same fate. Regaining your bearings, you try to reach out for them. But instead, your body decides to let go of your meal. Vomiting all over the floor. The door handle then gets violently removed out of your hand. Sending you almost flying out the car. Chunks of vomit flying along. Scrambling back up, you see the Iron Man suit with the door in its hand. Behind you, you hear several words mutter. The Iron Man suit reaching out for you. Now it strikes you. The eyes. A bright green light shines through. He did this.
 Barely able to stand on your feet. Your legs unable to support your own weight, the suit reaches out for you. Assisting you out of the car. You feel a tug on your jacket. From the corner of your eye, you see Stark hanging on. Before you can respond. The Raven lands on the shoulder of the suit. Opening its beak and releasing a screech into the car. Although your ears are still ringing from all the violence, you actually notice nothing special. But Tony, on the other hand, jumps back screaming in pain covering his ears. You look onto him as you are slowly being helped onto the street. The suit then picking you up and flying away from the scene.

~~~
Jack’s POV
“Commander. There’s something you should see” Winston said as he came up to me,
“Lead the way” I say and followed him down to his lab, to find the capsule that was sealed was now opened and a female stood in the middle of the room with smoke coming from her hands, “Ma’am” I say as I approached her, she turned around quickly revealing bright orange eyes as she held her hands up in my direction stopping me,
“What do you want?” She growled, I held my hands up in surrender
“You’ve been-”
“I know what I’ve been doing for the past twenty years of my life” she spat as her eyes glowed,
“You do?” I asked, she scoffed
“I put myself in that capsule after being in a horrible accident. Causing me to be this” She explained mentioning herself,
“I’m afraid I don’t understand” I say, she sighed pinching the bridge of her nose,
“My name is (Y/N) (L/N). I am thirty years old. And I’m the most dangerous person on the planet” She introduced, I nodded slowly
“Jack Morrison. Commander of Overwatch” I introduced,
“That’s a full operational organisation” She chuckled to herself,
“Sorry what?” I asked,
“Oh, just before I put myself away Overwatch was just a ‘try-out’ organisation” She explained,
“Oh” I say, she nodded and looked around the lab.
***
(Y/N)’s POV
I had been at the Overwatch base for a little over six months and luckily, my powers have made a no-show…yet,
“Miss (L/N)” Winston said gaining my attention, I hummed, “The Commander would wish for you to meet him in his office” He said, I nodded and made my way past him, I rolled my eyes, this Commander has been keeping me under tight surveillance ever since I came out of that capsule, I arrived outside his office door and knocked,
“Come in” He said, I did so and stood in front of his desk.
“You wanted me?” I asked, he nodded
“Please sit” He said mentioning the chair, I did so as he came around the front of his desk and leant against it holding a file in his hand, “According to your file, you have powers?” he said and looked at me for confirmation,
“Well, if it what the file says it must be true” I say folding my arms, his jaw clenched,
“It also says that you were the criminal mastermind before you died and became scientist” He said, I hummed as I sat back in the chair, he was coming the end of his patience making me smirk as he sat back in his chair, “Listen up missy. We have no time to waste on criminals like yourself” He said making my smirk drop as I clenched my fists and a light frost smoke began to come off them,
“Really? Explain Jesse McCree” I spat glaring at him,
“I don’t need to explain anything to you” He spat back, I quickly stood up and slammed my fists on his table covering it with frost,
“Listen up ‘Commander’, I am the last person whose bad side you want to get on. As for my background, I became a criminal to keep my parents and siblings fed, hydrated, washed and enough money to pay their rent” I explained as he stared at the frost, “Then during a heist, a fire broke out, scarring me for life” I say as I waved my hand and the frost melted immediately, “So, I hung that life up, I became a biologist, researching for anything to change my DNA back to normal, unfortunately I had run out of test subjects and I thought I was at the breakthrough, so I did it on myself. It went wrong, and I became this…bomb” I explain, he looked up at me
“Bomb?” He asked, I rolled my eyes
“My body is at a constant war between fire and ice. Hot and cold. Understand?” I say, he nodded “Good. Now if you could keep the surveillance down to a minimum and all will be well” I say before leaving his office.
***
“Do you know how stupid that was?!” Jack yelled as we entered his room, I rolled my eyes,
“You’re welcome for saving your entire team!” I yelled,
“Now that Talon knows you exist, you’re going to be a top target” He said,
“I’d like to see them try” I scoffed, he sighed running a hand over his face “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that you are worried about me” I say crossing my arms,
“Ha. Worried? Me? You can barely decide if your hot or cold” He said, I hummed and went to leave, “Where do you think you’re going?” He asked as he pinned me against the door, I raised an eyebrow
“L-” he cut me off by crashing his lips on to mine, I smirked into it as I returned it, my hands were pulling at hair on the back of his head making him moan against my lips, his hand were resting on my hips under my shirt as he drew circles on them, he bit my lip, hard causing me to gasp and open it giving him access to my mouth and winning the battle for dominance, we broke away for a breather but as soon as he did he began attacking my neck with kisses, I moaned softly as he went over my soft spot, I felt him smirk against my skin before he began to suck at it causing more moans to escape my mouth, he pulled away and admired his work before connecting our lips back together, he hands traveled lower so they were cupping my ass before mentioning me to jump which I did, wrapping my legs around him, he laid me down on his bed, not breaking the kiss one single time.
*Extra Ending*
Third Person’s POV
Gabriel sat down with the other members of Overwatch,
“Why’s my room next to boy scouts again?” He groaned, a small chuckle went across the table and McCree patted his shoulder,
“They at it again last night, boss?” He asked, Gabriel just looked at him making him nod, “’ey up, it’s your best friends” McCree said mentioning the door, Gabriel followed McCree’s gaze and saw (Y/N) and Jack making their way to the table, Gabriel groaned, his head hit the table,
“What’s up Gabe?” (Y/N) asked as they sat at the table, Gabriel glared at them
“Firstly, you’ve done a terrible job on covering that hickey. And secondly, next you’re going at it with boy scout keep it down” He growled, (Y/N)’s cheeks had turned red as Jack wore a smirk on his face.
In Your Heartbeat (3/16)
IN YOUR HEARTBEAT MASTERLIST
Pairing: Bucky/Reader, Natasha/Sister!Reader
Word Count: 2200 approx.
Warnings: None, I think. Does my shitty writing count as a warning tho? Heh.
Summary: Project Insight has failed, and the small team Natasha has gathered in Washington sighs in relief as news of the Captain pulling through reach their ears. A conversation with Steve will reveal more about your past to the team, but there are still many things you doubt about who you are, what you remember.
A/N: This series is gonna be pretty short, compared to my other works, but I needed to write something to dig myself out of the hole I got into after finishing It’s All Lies, Darling.
Also, I promise Natasha is not a bad guy here. She has her reasons, you’ll hopefully see.
Please let me know what you think! My ask is always open if you have any questions or if you want to request something! Thank you, and happy reading!
"Why are you saying that name, Natalia!?"
She can only look at you, big eyes staring back at you in a mix of anguish and terror.
"Natalia, why did he say it!?" You scream, but next thing you knew, they're putting a rifle to the back of your head and forcing you on your knees.
"Nat..." You whisper, tears filling your eyes. Your sister won't even look at you, "That's not my name...is it?"
You stuck to the shadows after the battle in the bridge, keeping the Ghost's gauntlet and trying to keep the connection alive for the next encounter of your sister or Steve with him, that was bound to happen any time soon.
You tried helping the Captain through the comms, predicting when the Asset would strike, when he would raise his gun at his former best friend and when he would use the metal arm to gain an advantage. But relaying information is not as easy as going through the motions when you are taking your part in the fight. The Captain fell, but so did Hydra.
Days spent by the bedside of a man you did not know, feeling tendrils of what could be and trying to strengthen the thread that tied his soul to survival end perseverance, even though you knew he did not need your powers to do that. But Steve had become your sister's confidant, your sister's friend, he had been at her side when you hadn't, he had risked his life for her over and over. You owe him, even if you are never planning on letting him know that.
When the Captain wakes up, Sam tells you and your sister about it with a smile, and you three go inside to greet the man born again.
"Well, that's a good nap you took there, sailor." Natalia teases, to which the blond answeres with a sardonic twist of his broken lip. It is apparently enough for your sister to relax, and reach out to take his hand, squeezing once before letting go, "I'm gonna go tell Fury and the rest you are alive. Welcome back, Steve."
He watches her go, and when Sam tells him he is going to go to his house, planning on getting a very much earned shower and sleep on a real bed; you are left alone with the man if the shield, only now the person looking back at you is a man that had seen his world crumble at his feet.
"I know you have no reason to trust me and much less confide me with anything, but...with Natasha as your sister, why have you hid all this time?"
"Trying to find another cause to protect, Captain?"
"Trying to find another friend." He states simply, eyes holding your own. You take a deep breath, releasing it with practiced calm.
"Natasha was the best thing Hydra got away with making. She was the best student, the best assassin and the best fighter," You start, not even trying to mask the pride you feel for your big sister at being so strong, so resilient. You shrug your shoulders and continue, "And surprise surprise, she had a sister."
"They tried to get you." He says, but you shake your head.
"They had already tried. They...when they raided our home in Seversk I-I managed to escape, hid until I was sure they wouldn't come for me. Worst mistake of my life. I was nineteen when they took me from my foster's family house.
"They had the same plans for me as they did for my sister, but I wasn't sent to the same program. The Red Room was not the only new project they had. I was tested with an experimental serum, similar to yours but looking to exploit a hidden sequence of the DNA that allows humans to manipulate elements...transcending this plane. Like time, or probability.
You smile sadly, closing your eyes for a bit and seeing the nurse open the door to the Captain's room with a smile before you open them and hear the knock on the door.
There’s a small moment of chat between the blonde and the helpful woman, and you take the time to focus on Steve’s energy, trying to find if his intentions lie on using your information against you. But the thread is almost non-existent, the one that shows him using your own secrets against you, so, when the nurse leaves, you let your eyes find Steve's baby blue ones again.
"I escaped after the serum worked, I had the advantage. They let me, figured it was going to cost more to chase me than to let me go. But then...then Nat started excelling after her first missions were proven successful, she became their most prized possession and...my name started meaning I was the next best thing, I guess. And they wanted me. They wanted another one of the Romanova family.
You breathe a laugh that sounds too weak to your own ears.  Keeping your eyes firmly on the machine showing the Captain’s heartrate, you continue.
"Natalia fought with claws and teeth to get their gaze from me, but never managed it. I spent thirty years, maybe, running from my identity, from my powers, from...everything. I got so used to preventing their tracking methods of me, that I ended up becoming one of the best trackers in our line of work.
"That's how you got Hydra to send the Winter Soldier after you?" Steve asks, voice low and soothing even though he is the one in the hospital bed.
"Yeah, putting me and my sister together against the whole of Hydra was not the best case scenario. They thought sending their Ghost to kill me would get her back to their side. But it didn't, she is my sister, we...even though he hadn't been side to side for years, we were still of the same blood, nothing could get between that. So, we got used to it, and started working together, I tracked her victims, she took 'em down. Perfect duo."
"That doesn't explain why you don't say your real name now."
You swallow past the knot in your throat, and show him a tight-lipped smile, "I don't know it. Hydra erased the files on me, Natasha chooses to forget it."
You see him frown, sympathetic blue eyes searching your own, "That's..."
"Efficient," You interrupt, standing up and putting up the mask you have perfected for over sixty years, "Names are a burden, especially in a line of work like mine, Captain."
You ran from Washington as soon as the Captain was out of danger, with Natalia at your back.
When Natalia outed the files, you made quick work of un-encrypting the files on the Ghost, reaching for every friend and every contact you had around the world to see the information presented to you without Hydra's obstacles in the way.
It was all waiting for you in your office in Moscow. You hadn't been there in months by now. You couldn't.
Not yet, not with so many questions in your head.
You are sitting on the old couch in one of our houses in Moldova, pen on your hand as you tap relentlessly on a white notepad, when a question leaves your lips before you can think of whether or not you should ask it.
"Do you remember your soulmate's name, Nat?"
"I don't."
"Don't you wanna know? I can get you hooked up and read in a blink of an eye." You offer, leaving the notepad on the coffee table and standing up, walking towards your sister.
She looks up with narrowed eyes, and stops your movement with a gentle hand on your forearm.
"What's this about, Solnyska?"
"You remember how we used to fold paper cranes?" You smile, stalling the conversation you are too afraid to take head-on, but still taking a seat next to the redhead as she keeps those all-knowing eyes on yours.
"Yeah. An old-wives tale about meeting your soulmate if you managed to get to the thousandth." She concedes, letting go of your arm and signaling for you to lay on her. You do, head popped on your sister's shoulder as she runs a hand through your hair. "Is this about what happened in Washington?"
You shrug, "I think I... saw a-a weird sort of future."
"Will you tell me what happened?" She asks soothingly, every bit the big sister, but you lift your head and look her in the eyes instead.
"Will you?" You accuse, eyebrows raised at her.
"What?"
"That name, Natalia. Who does he think I am? What does that name mean?"
She shakes her head, "I don't know, Solnyshka."
Your response is interrupted by the annoying buzzing sound coming from your phone.
"You won't believe the kind of clients I'm getting." The voice on the other side of the phone brags, and you roll your eyes as you approach the notepad and ready yourself to scribble down the data Elena, one of your contacts on Russia needs you to get on a soulmate.
"I'm listening."
"I don't need you to find anybody, I did that all by myself. But I need you to give some information to your sister."
"What is it?"
"The man that broke havoc in Washington a couple of months ago? He tracked me down. Looking for someone."
"The Asset is needing your help?" You ask, ignoring how Natalia stands up from the couch and stalks over to you, trying to ask questions.
"He goes by Bucky now, I believe." The girl on the other side muses, "Anyhow, I'm gonna forward you an audio clip of the call he made. See if your team can get anything from it. Or maybe just send it to Captain Rogers, he may want to hear it."
You can see Natalia already leaning over the table, scouting the secure channels you have with your contacts in search of the audio she heard Elena say she was going to send.
Your heart beats painfully inside your chest. For years you have tried to ignore the voice inside your head that tells you Natasha’s hunt for the Winter Soldier is something more thana  personal vendetta to avenge you, something more than simply evening the ground for him almost taking you away from her.
You know your sister is hiding something from you, something big and something that is going to force a distance between you two that not even Hydra, with over thirty years of keeping you apart, managed to do.
You whisper your goodbye to Elena just as you see Natalia click play on the audio.
The Ghost's voice fills the room, “You have a reputation for finding people.”
"Who do you want me to find, specifically?" Elena asked, and you can hear the typing on the background.
"Y/N, Y/N Romanova." The soldier answers mechanically, though you can hear a tint of fear in his voice.
Romanova. Pain and fear clutch your heart with an iron grip. You are about to speak when Elena sighs, and provides her answer.
"Unfortunately, she is dead."
"What?"
"I'm sorry, Sargeant Barnes. Miss Romanova died years ago."
You hear ruffling on the other side of the line, and a few beats go by before the soldier speaks again,
"No, no that...t-that cannot be right. We...people don't, we don't die, we...we wait for each other."
"We cannot die of old age, true. But I'm afraid she was killed."
"N-No..."
Elena goes on. You would comment on the way she goes so mechanically to tell a man someone he clearly cared for was dead, if it weren't for the fact that you had done worse, way worse.
"According to my file, on 1963, she was injected with an experimental poison. Her body couldn't handle it. I'm sorry for your loss, Sargeant."
A choked sound leaves the man's lips, too close to a sob,
"That c-cannot be...Oh, God..."
"Sargeant Barnes?"
"No, I...I remember..."
The call ends abruptly, a sequence of numbers following it in what seems to be the date and time of the call.
Heart heavy, you turn to your sister. You want her to reassure you, like the big sister she has always been, that it will all be alright. You want her to wrap her arms around you and speak with that raspy voice of hers about how it is all a mistake, a mishap. You want her to tell you that though that girl they talked about matches your life piece for piece except for the date of her death, it is not you the Ghost is after. You want her to tell you she hasn't lied, not about something like this.
But when your eyes meet hers, and you see, for the first time in so long, tears brimming in Black Widow's eyes, you lose all hope.
"What is my name, Natalia?"
If you wanna be tagged, lemme know! Love you!
Just in Time Chapter Four of Five: Awake
Upon finding out he was awake – apparently, he’d been out for a while, no surprise there given the extent of his injuries – everyone in the team came to Spy’s room for a visit. It was annoying and awkward but maybe a little heartwarming too, not that Spy would ever admit it.
Another thing he wasn’t going to admit was how glad he was to be alive. When he’d shown up on the scene and seen Scout’s situation and that there was no possible way to take them all out before they had a chance to kill Scout, he’d done the only thing he could without giving it a second thought despite knowing his chances of surviving it were less than good.
Honestly, he was a bit surprised with himself, he wouldn’t have thought himself capable of jumping straight to sacrificing himself without thinking first about it for a couple seconds at least, not even for Scout. But he had and… he’d do so again if he had to. Hopefully there would be no next time though.
He let out a sigh of relief once his last visitors – Pyro and Engi – had left, leaving only him and Medic. He was exhausted but in too much pain to go back to sleep. Medic was good enough at his job that he didn’t need to say anything about that to administer him another dose of pain meds, he didn’t want to depend on them but right now he had no choice if he wanted to think clearly or get any rest. Which his body desperately needed.
“Where’s Scout?” he asked before Medic could leave. It was late afternoon now, nearing nightfall, and despite the conversation they’d had that morning after Spy had woken up, Scout hadn’t come back.
“I do not know. I’m surprised he’s not here actually. He sat by your bedside often while you were unconscious, especially before we knew you were going to live. I had to get Heavy to carry him back to bed after he fell asleep here at night. I can go find him if you like.”
“No, don’t bother, he’ll show up eventually.” Spy dismissed Medic with a wave, feigning an uncaring attitude.
The slight smirk on Medic’s face said he knew just how out of place he’d just made Spy feel, probably why he’d gone out of his way to tell him about Scout’s actions during the days Spy had spent unconscious. He never would’ve thought Scout would do something like that regardless of who’d been hurt or the circumstances behind it. But apparently, he had, and he’d done so for Spy.
“Guten Nacht then,” Medic said with a wave before turning around leaving.
Spy let out a half sigh, half groan once the door was closed. His chest hurt like hell, every breath was like getting stabbed or shot all over again, and he’d had to pretend like it was nothing while dealing with everyone. Hopefully the pain meds would kick in soon and hopefully Scout would take his time before returning. Spy wasn’t in the mood to figure out what he was going to do about him now, especially if he continued to insist on Spy acting out his role as his father.
How had Scout even found out? The others who knew had all found out because they were smart – Medic because of the DNA tests he’d performed on them when they’d joined up. Maybe Scout was smarter than Spy had thought, he was certainly good at hiding it if so.
***
Despite constantly being drunk, Demoman still managed to beat Scout at cards for the third time in a row. Which left Scout with nothing left to gamble with to try to get his money back. Perfect.
“It’s only ‘cause my arm’s still hurt and stuff, it’s distracting me and making the cards harder to hold” he said, handing over the last bit of cash he had until his next paycheck. He’d blown through this one faster than normal somehow. “I got shot remember?”
“Yup.” Demoman took Scout’s money and pocketed it with a toothy grin, no doubt that’d be going to more booze later. “Speaking of that, you should go pay your daddy a visit, you haven’t been up to see him since he woke up yesterday, right?”
“All right, first off, you know too? Second, never refer to him as my… ‘daddy’ ever again. That’s weird and creepy.”
“Yeah, everybody knows, even you figured it out eventually.” He chuckled and took a swig from his bottle. “And ain’t nothing wrong with calling him your daddy when he is.”
“Ugh, I’m done with this shit.” Scout stood up, slamming his hands on the table in front of him. It would’ve looked tough if he didn’t wince right after, the damn bullet wound in his arm still hurt like hell. He shook it off though and walked out.
He wasn’t planning on it but his feet took him in the direction of the medical area and once there he might as well go ahead and visit Spy again. Maybe he’d be asleep, giving Scout the perfect excuse to leave.
Maybe he should peek in, try to be sneaky in case he woke up Spy on accident. … Nah. He opened the door and barged in as he would any other room.
Sniper sat in the bedside chair. He like Spy looked up at Scout as he entered. “Welp,” he said as he stood. “I guess that’s my cue to leave. See ya later mate.”
Scout stepped aside, letting him pass before closing the door. “Hey pal or Dad or whatever I’m supposed to call you now,” he said as nonchalantly as he could. He needed to pretend like nothing had changed now that their familial relationship was a known and open thing between them. Back when Scout had just strongly suspected and had been lying to himself about the truth it had been much easier to continue on like before. But now it wasn’t a secret anymore and Spy had gotten very close to sacrificing his life to save Scout’s, so things weren’t normal anymore.
Spy raised an eyebrow as he took a drag on his cigarette – Sniper no doubt had given it him against Medic’s orders. Was he just as unsure about all this as Scout was and he was just good at hiding it or was he truthfully in complete control? It was impossible to say, especially with the mask on. “You still want to learn French?”
“Uh… yeah.” Being bilingual would impress Pauling for sure and French was supposed to be the language of love, right? Making it the perfect language to learn. And not having to talk about the other important things between them right now was awesome.
So, he plopped himself in the bedside chair. “So you’re gonna teach me?”
“I suppose so, I have nothing to do while I recover so I might as well.”
“Cool but uh… you sure you should be smoking right now?”
Spy scowled. “No, but I’m going to anyway. I won’t teach you anything if you tell Medic.”
Scout wanted to argue further but now wasn’t the time for it, he’d talk to Sniper about it later. “All right, no tattling, got it. Let’s start though.”
***
“This is hard, can’t you just teach me to speak it?” Scout complained, rolling his head up with a groan.
“She’ll be more impressed if you can write it too.” If Spy was going to teach him French he was going to do it properly no matter how much he whined and complained.
“You really think so?”
“I know so.” Spy didn’t know that for sure, but saying so would be the only way to get Scout to listen.
Scout gave him a skeptical looking before sighing and looking down at the notebook again. Good. Teaching him was a nice distraction from the pain and boredom, even if it did get annoying and exhausting sometimes.
It was made even more difficult by Scout’s dyslexia. Spy had it too though – Scout had gotten it from him – and thus he knew how handle it and could teach Scout how to as well. Despite his complaining Scout did really try, making steady progress even if it was at a snail’s pace. Spy was proud of him.
How different would things have been if Spy hadn’t left? How different would Scout have turned out? Would he have still ended up working as a mercenary? Would he be better behaved or just as rowdy and immature? It was impossible to know and thus it wasn’t worth thinking about.
The real question was: when was Scout going to go back to being angry Spy hadn’t been there when he was a kid? He’d used to get angry each and every time someone brought up his father, come to think of it when he stopped being like that had to be when he’d begun to suspect the truth.
If he’d had that strong suspicion confirmed any other way he undoubtedly would’ve been pissed about it. They’d been working together in the same mercenary company and squad for a while now after all and Spy had never said anything about it – initially he’d planned to but had kept putting it off until it had gone beyond the point of awkwardness and thus he’d decided to never say anything to him about it even when the other members of their squad – minus Soldier – had all found out through various means. The fallout of all that secret keeping and anger about Spy having left had to hit eventually.
When though? And how was Spy going to handle it? … He’d figure that out when they got there. For now, Spy would just enjoy the distraction Scout offered in his endeavors to learn French.
Now if only Scout hadn’t convinced Sniper to stop sharing cigarettes with Spy. Though… he was probably right to do so, that didn’t mean Spy had to like it though.
