Oh! I have a fun idea! How would the companions react to sole going through some rubble and finding a former degree/award for some massive achievement that was prewar. Like sole finds some massive medical award and is like “oh yea. This was for that surgical technique I made up” or like a military award like “oh yes this was when I saved 4 guys from a bomb”

Sole demanded them to assist them in clearing out the house of anything that had not stood the test of time. They remove the shattered old furnishings from the master bedroom. Sturges might be able to assist with one or two repairs. When they drop a drawer, a plastic-coated document falls out. Sole rushes to hide it from their companion, but it is too late.

Cait : "Hold up, what's that I'm seein'?" she asks.

Sole replies with "nothing."

"It's a real big deal," Cait says as she takes the certificate from Sole's grasp. "Damn, I did know about this tournament! It was some fancy-pants international featherweight champion. I had no clue you were into the ring, darlin'! And here I was, thinking I was the one who fought for the both of us!"

Sole seemed to be really uneasy.

"It happened in college. I was actually at college. To pay for my studies, I had been fighting in the ring. It was... another era."

"Hold up, there's a difference between scrapping and scraping to fund your education and being the legendary international champion! Are ya still sportin' yer belt? "

"No. I sold it to put down the deposit on this house. And I assure you, it was nothing. I won luckily."

"Luckily?"

"Yeah. Just one foolish thing. I was fortunate in every bout. The guys had been drinking or cheating on their diet the night before. As a result of one thing leading to another, I was proclaimed champion."

"Without raisin' yer fists, huh?"

"Of course I raised my fists! I won by chance rather than by forfeit. But I'm sure I couldn't compete with opponents like yours."

"Still, it's bleedin' impressive.”

Sole grumbles as they stuffs the document into their bag.

"Are we moving this furniture, or are we still gossiping about things that are worth nothing?"

Cait snatches her side and says nothing. However, she vows to request lessons when Sole will be in a better mood.

Codsworth : "Ah, sir/madam, I must confess, I was not aware of your esteemed possession of an honorary doctorate of science!"

Sole specifies, "The most important word is honorific."

Codsworth grabs the document and holds it up to his ocular sensors. «They do not bestow honoris causa to simply please. What did you do?"

Sole appears irritated. They sets down their side of the furniture because Codsworth doesn't seem to be willing to let go.

"Ah, foolishness. I contributed to the concrete's resilience to salt action. Not much at all."

"Doth mine ears deceive me? Verily, I comprehend that this wondrous concoction of concrete hath indeed brought forth a grand revolution in the realm of construction. Yet, I beseech thee, should such an accomplishment truly warrant the bestowal of a doctorate?"

"I may have studied the radar and the atom... that may have prompted me to design a radio-localisation model as well as the practically autonomous extension of the atomic battery... which may have led to the final version of the Pip-Boy 2000 mark VI."

Codsworth perfectly imitates an impressed whistle.

«Just that, » he says ironically.

"Sturges will be waiting."

They takes their side of the furniture and Codsworth does the same.

Curie : "Is this a publication highlighting your remarkable achievements?"

Sole rushes to grab the document and hide it beneath their mattress, but Curie quickly catches it.

"Hero of the day?"

"Arf... good luck. Good time, good place. I was the first on the line when a man hit his tanker on the road. I assisted him in getting out of the cabin before everything blew up."

Curie is pleased by both the act and the modesty.

"It is documented that you valiantly ventured into the fiery depths of damnation to rescue this unfortunate soul."

"Journalists favour to exaggerate things. It wasn't quite as good."

"But the vehicle experienced a rather explosive event.”

"Like the grenades that lob at me all day long. Do we remove that piece of furniture or not?"

Curie adds nothing. Her long-held admiration for Sole, on the other hand, has only grown.

Danse : Sole quickly hides the document, but Danse sets the furniture down and crosses his arms.

" What is it, soldier? This appears to be of great significance."

"It is not."

A tiny smile is stretched out by the Brotherhoods.

"I have perused the text. However, I yearn to receive your words directly."

"I may have rescued a patrol during a military operation, and my unit just happened to need publicity. That kind of stuff happens all the time in a fighting era."

Danse takes the document from Sole's grasp. " The Medal of Honor, a symbol of unwavering valour and unyielding dedication to duty. Though it existed long before my existence, I am not oblivious to the profound significance that this esteemed recognition embodies."

"Well, it's nothing anymore, and it won't take my furniture out of the room."

"That doth epitomise the individual who didst cast themself into the fray, valiantly rescuing mine unit from a ravenous horde of feral ghouls.”

Sole growls and grips their side of the furniture once again. Danse sets the certificate on the bed and vows to persuade Sole to display it noticeably in the Prydwen dormitory.

Deacon : Deacon goes up to Sole and grabs the document to read. Sole tries to take it from him and follows what appears to be a tango.

“God! Gold? I never knew you were a spry athlete, pal.”

"Congress gold medal, nothing to do."

"Yup, ain't got nothin' to do with it, I see. Service to the country ain't no walk in the park, my friend.”

Sole finally gets the document out of his hands and throws it in the back of their closet.

"If you bring this to anyone...I swear..."

Deacon chuckles. Sole attempts to threaten him from time to time, but they are never successful. This time, however, they appears to be completely out of it.

"I swear to God, I'm leaving the RailRoad!"

The spy swallows slowly.

"Let's get a move on, this here's a real big deal. Why does you appear so ashamed of it?"

"Excellent service to the country. I created the radio guiding technology that was later used on the nuclear bomb. You know that thing that swept the country and ushered in our era?"

Deacon's brows appear over the lenses of his glasses.

"I ain't never gonna spill the beans to nobody...”

Dogmeat : He doesn't move furniture, and even if he falls on a document, it makes no difference to him. However, one evening while Sole is laying in their bed watching an old award, Dogmeat comes at the foot of the bed.

«Never tell anyone, buddy,» Sole murmurs, «but it was me who discovered this vaccine against the flu H6D20 during my master.»

In heaven, the dog wags his tail when Sole scratches his head.

Elder Maxson : Sole had offered to discuss troop rationing in exchange for a service, but Maxson had no idea that this service would consist of cleaning up a wrecked house. Then this document slid out of a drawer, and Maxson bent over to pick it up, discovering at the same time that he is helping to empty Sole's house, and that Sole is a former civilian hero, permitting the evacuation of roughly twenty citizens from a burning building at the risk of their life. He stares up at a snow-white Sole (despite though he has no idea what snow is).

“Sir…I'll explain."

"Explain me that you have comprehended our core values prior to being recruited into my organisation?"

"Sir, it didn't happen the way it was described in this article."

"Cease this, Knight. I have no tolerance for disingenuous humility. Embrace the recognition that has been bestowed upon you. "

Sole scowls and goes out of the room. Maxson follows them.

"Do I connect that this esteemed honor instills a sense of unease within your being? And what, pray tell, is the purpose of laminating it, then?"

Sole kicks a shard of metal that has fallen from the roof.

"Nora/Nate requested that we save this article to show our son later. I always thought it was silly, and I tried everything to get rid of it. I have just now discovered the hiding place that has been found to keep me from wiping its existence."

Maxson places his hand on the shoulder of his soldier. "Do not cringe in shame. Take pride in your unwavering commitment to righteousness and steadfast courage. That is what sets you apart within our ranks and renders you of great significance to me."

Sole becomes even more uneasy, so Maxson changes the subject. "So, what about the supplies?"

"I will give you whatever surplus my colonies have...but never talk about it again."

Maxson extends his hand. "We have an agreement, General."

Hancock : The ghoul turns and returns the document he stole from Sole, placing it on their bed's mattress. " What in the blazes is this?" he innocently wonders, even though he knows exactly what it is due to his broad pre-war knowledge.

“Hm…I jumped from a vessel into a port to save the daughter of a wealthy politician who had gone overboard her own shuttle. They made a fuss of it."

Hancock whistles between his teeth and takes a shot of Jet. "Copacetic! I reckon I'm acquainted with a genuine hero?"

"The only heroic act I can brag about," Sole interrupts, grabbing the newspaper. "it's to not having strangled you for all of the chem breaks you take instead of helping me."

Hancock chuckles and stands up. It is true that it is easy to divert his attention away from such a unpleasant activity.

Gage : Porter only groans and whines. Instead of cleaning a house, they should be conquering settlements. Despite this, he picks up the document from the ground and instantly realizes what he is holding in his hands. "...the President of the United States recognized their bravery..."

"You can read?"

Porter, somewhat offended, looks up at Sole. " Of course I can decipher the written word, friend. I have an aversion to perusing literature, but my maternal figure insisted on instilling some intellectual capacity within me. What's the dealio, pal?"

"There is no story. I hurried to save a senator who was crossing the street when a truck broke down. They made a spectacle of it."

Porter blows a whistle. "I'm afraid I didn't quite catch what you just said, but judging by your humble nature, I feel it must have been quite the substantial tale."

Sole mutters. "The sooner we get this piece of furniture out, the sooner we'll be able to go conquer settlements."

Porter agrees without further explanation.

MacCready (romanced) : "What's this now? Primetime Emmy award?"

"Nothing...really, and more nothing important today."

"But, still?"

The mercenary ignites the cigarette that has been put behind his ear, having all his time. Especially when he is not compensated for his services as a mover.

"At the start of my marriage, I was a TV show host for a few years." They gave me this award because they believed I was good. The trophy had to have been stolen by now, but the document had to have been hidden in that drawer by Nate/Nora."

"A trophy, huh? Like when ya win a real high-stakes game?"

Sole approaches the mercenary with a smile, wrapping their arms around his shoulders. "The only trophy that matters to me is a certain wooden statuette that was given to me on the day you opened your heart to mine." then they passionately kisses him.

Mac no longer complains. He just got a nice income and believes that if he works hard, his compensation would be even better in the evening.

Nick Valentine : “Ah, the Call to Service Award! I must admit, I had no inkling of your unwavering dedication prior to the war."

"I guess it's in my nature to spend all of my free time helping others," Sole laughs nervously. "But, really, it's nothing. I… It was fairly simple, and I had an excellent staff. Instead of going to bars, I went to the community center and helped others. It was enjoyable."

In turn, the old detective laughs. "Quite the spectacle, tending to the aged, providing sustenance for the destitute, and offering refuge to the wanderers."

“Well, it hasn't changed much,” says Sole, following the humor of the mocker.

Nick approaches and hugs them. "The more I come to know you, the more I find myself growing fond of you."

Sole appears indefinitely nervous, and Nick becomes too. By making the gesture that he has just too naturally provided, he is now persuaded that Sole's discomfort is, as often as not, because he is a synth and not another human being.

"Well, let's extract this particular piece of furniture, shall we?" he says quickly.

Sole observes him for a bit, realising that their friend is now more uncomfortable than they are, and knowing how self-aware he is, they place a warm hand on his shoulder. "By the way, thanks for helping me."

Nick smiles slightly. "It's always a real pleasure, partner.” And they each take their side of the cabinets.

Piper : "Are you jokin' with me?”

“What? It's insignificant."

“The damn Pulitzer Prize? Nothing? You really think I ain't aware of what it is?"

Sole seemed to be uneasy.

"I wrote an article criticizing the waste of resources in the movement of troops in Anchorage. It didn't turn me into a hero."

"But there's the Pulitzer Prize!"

"Do you really know what it is?"

Piper gives themm a mocking glance. "I’m a journalist, Sole. jour-na-list! Oh, you bet your sweet Nuka-Cola I know what it is!"

"I'm sorry for bugging you, but it's not like they're still do it."

"I understand, and I believe it's a shame. My McDonough story would've fetched me one, I tell ya..."

Sole bursts in laughter. "I'm convinced, too."

They resume the task without adding anything, but later that evening, Piper feels compelled to bring it back on the rug, for the damnation of Sole.

Preston : "A humanitarian award?"

Sole growls as they reclaims the article from Preston's grasp. "This must have been laminated by Nate/Nora. Shit…”

"A humanitarian award." Preston muses.

"In Africa, I dug wells to provide water to villages. It's not a huge deal. It was just another pastime for students with low self-esteem."

"You ventured all the way to Africa just to dig wells?"

"It was with a hundred other students. And there are many more. It was a common occurrence, I assure you."

"And did everyone receive a humanitarian award for that, General?"

Sole seemed to be uneasy.

"I may have started the nonprofit organisation that raised the most funds and travelled the furthest...However, it was in the past. I'm not even sure Africa exists anymore..."

Preston slaps Sole in the back while laughing heartily.

"You're that. The yearnin' to protect the world. I'm mighty proud to be your friend."

Sole gives a gentle smile. "You're more to me than just a friend, Preston. Everything is due to you."

"It's quite amusing, because that's exactly the sentiment I was about to express. Beginning with my life, in all senses."

Sole stares at the ceiling. They are occasionally irritated by Preston's approach, even though Preston is the great spirit who resurrected the Minutemen from its ashes. But if that pleases him, so be it. They take their place at their side of the furniture, and their Colonel gets the message.

"Ah, don't forget, tomorrow's is my humble abode, alright?”

"Too good." Sole grunts.

Strong : "What paper?"

"Stupidity of the past."

"Why Puny human hide paper?"

"Stupidity, I said. Sole piloted a plane to prevent it from collapsing on a skyscraper."

"What plane?"

"Stupidity. Can you get that piece of furniture out for me?"

Strong snatches the furniture with both hands and throws it through the window.

"Puny human furniture out."

Sole scratches their head. Sturges might have a hard time fixing it...

X6-88 : "Sir/Madam, is this document authentic?"

Sole growls as they grabs it from the Courser's hands. "It had to be Nora/Nate who laminated it."

"May I offer a remark?"

“No.”

Sole points to the other end of the cabinet to X6, and the synth rushes to take his position, but as they leave the house, he can't help but return his eyes to Sole from time to time. Sole exhausts their patience by travelling to Sturges to drop off their burden.

“What?”

"It is a privilege to be in the service of a genuine revolutionary in the field of modern medicine, and I cannot help but fathom the origins of Father's exceptional intellect."

"It was a laboratory accident that had a positive impact on humanity because my assistant was clever enough to capitalize on it and he was noble enough to give me the credit."

X6 adds nothing, yet on these rare occasions, a small smile extends across his lips. He has known for a long time that Sole is very modest, but he also knows that they are a particularly smart person, and he is not astonished to find that they distinguished themself even before the war.

eren listens to fucking everythinggg, his music taste really wasn’t diverse at all in middle school but once he got to highschool ole dude was listening to everything from r&b to indie musicc, throw some metal in there, all of that. honorable artist mentions; the nbhd, chase atlantic, the weeknd, and j. cole

levi doesn’t listen to music much but when he does i think it’s more like beats opposed to lyrical music?? also he’s a radio person, he’ll find a tolerable station when he’s in the car and tune it for as long as he can bare, no honorable mentions from me :/

pieck’s music taste kind of reminds me of min’s too, some lofi beats but usually when she’s studying, some jazz, she listens to white noise like rain, artists like vacations, current joys, mitski, etc.

“You’ve been ignoring me for three days straight! Why is that, baby?” As his lips made contact with her skin, trailing down her neck

“Roman, just let me go. This is not the place and DEFINITELY not the time”

“I miss you” He whispered “Y/N, baby, you hurt my feelings when you treat me like this” He buried his face in her hair and caressed her body softly

She scoffed “As if you had any”

“Hey” He turned her around so she could face him “What’s the attitude about?” He looked into her eyes, and saw the resentment they held

“Is this because of what I said in your hotel room?” He sighed

“If you know, then why play dumb?” She spat

“C’mon Y/N, I’m sorry, ok?” He hugged her waist “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m an asshole! Please forgive me?” He pouted “Please, baby? I hate when you get mad at me” He begged with his eyes

“You don’t deserve it, you know” She crossed her arms in front of her chest

“Don’t be such a bitter bitch...It’s hotter when you’re MY bitch” He teased

When she tried to hold back a cackle, he knew he had won again

“Not this again” He rolled his eyes in annoyance “Why do you always have to get feelings involved, huh? For fucks sake, can’t you ENJOY a one night stand like everybody else?” He threw his hands up in the air

“One night stand?” She widened her eyes in surprise “Do you call fucking almost every night for two years straight a ‘one night stand’ ?”

“Sexually speaking, we couldn't be any more compatible if we tried - so what the fuck do you want me to do? You’re a good fuck to me and I’m a good fuck to you! Why would I search in clubs and bars for something I have next door?” He tugged on his hair out of frustration “I don’t have to date you to like you, Y/N” He sat down beside her on the bed, and caressed her face delicately “You know I like you, don’t you, baby?”

“Yeah I know” She slapped his hand away “You like me when your dick is inside of me”

“Y/N” He sighed

“Get the fuck out” She kicked him on his lower back, in a repeated attempt to shove him out of the bed “Get out!”

“I’m leaving!” He said, grabbing his jacket

“Out!” She threw one of her heels at him, and her aim made it so it nailed him sharply in the hip

“I said I’m fucking leaving” He grabbed the door handle “Crazy bitch!” He said loudly enough for her to hear as he left

But what he didn’t hear were her sobs, which lasted the entire weekend

Six months had passed. Y/N had transferred to Smackdown, leaving Roman and all of their bitter memories together with Monday Night Raw, and for once in her life, is truly happy. That night, as she approached her car in the parking lot, she spotted none other than Roman himself leaning against the drivers’ door of her vehicle

“I got transferred to Smackdown”

“Good for you” She nodded once and continued “Now, if you excuse me, I’m really tired” She pointed towards her car

“Y/N” He cupped her cheek “Please, just hear me out? I regret everything I did, baby. I mean it! I should have never treated you like that, you don’t deserve it! You’re a beautiful, smart, sexy woman and it was a huge mistake to take you for granted” He brushed his lips softly against hers “Tell me you forgive me, I beg you, please, baby”

“I forgive you and then what? Everything goes back to what it used to be? You treating me like shit? No, Roman. This is not fair to me” She shook her head

“And you’re absolutely right! That will NEVER happen again! I give you my word, baby. Just give me one more chance and I promise I’ll make it up to you” His long fingers stroked the back of her neck lightly, making her miss what they once had.

That was until her phone rang, and the first chords of the Davy Jones Locket song echoed through the parking lot, remembering her of what she had now.

He chuckled softly “I missed that acid humor of yours”

“What do you want Roman?” She glared at him

“Your happiness” But this time, he meant it

“Now, that’s a bad taste joke” She laughed bitterly

“I know you don’t believe me, but I do”

“Right” She said dismissively

“Can you tell me who it is?”

“I figure, if you know I’m getting married then you also know who the groom is. Why hear old news again?”

“It’s Drew, isn’t it?” He asked defeatedly

She sighed “Yes, Roman. It’s Drew, are you happy now?”

“When is the wedding?”

“October. Why are you suddenly so interested in my love life?”

“I need to know how much time I have to kidnap you before you commit the biggest mistake of your life” He joked, but deep down, he meant it

“I’m pretty sure I’ve already committed that one” She said, intentionally making eye contact with him

“I love you, Y/N. Always have”

“You have a funny way of showing it” She murmured

“I’m sorry, babe...but I felt trapped. I didn’t knew how to express what I was feeling and I was so confused” He locked his gaze with hers “I would do everything different now, I swear I would”

She ignored his pleading eyes, and returned her gaze to her paperwork “I’m afraid that time is gone, Roman...There’s nothing left to do”

One year later, Y/N is gathering her personal belongings from her office, her pregnancy doesn’t allow her to travel with the company any more, so she’s going to be working only from her home office for the foreseeable future. A knock on her door made her look up

“I heard the stork will be visiting you soon” Roman said

“Yeah, apparently she will”

“How far along are you?” He approached her carefully

“Just turned four months”

“Baby is popping out of nowhere, huh? Until a week ago you had no bump at all, and now” He reached his hand to touch her belly, but stopped midway

“It’s okay, Ro, you can touch it” She encouraged him

He smiled widely and rested his big hand against her tiny bump

“Do you know what you’re having?” He asked softly

“Girl” She smiled brightly “Regan”

“Even got her a name already? Damn baby, you’re fast- Sorry I shouldn’t have called you that” He said weakly

“It’s ok, don’t worry about it” She tried to hide the nostalgia the pet name brought to her

“I wish...” He trailed off

“Don’t. Don’t go there, please”

“You can still run away with me, you know?” He smirked, teasingly

“I’m sure you would look great holding a female version of Drew” She tried to joke

“As long as you birth it, I don’t care who made it. Although I wish it was me” He tried, one last time

“Maybe in another life, Ro” She smirked sadly, as she reached the door

“Do you promise?” He asked

“I’ll see you around” Smiling widely, she made her way out the arena doors, leaving him behind, for the second time (in that life).

Best Medicine

Imagine: Dean taking care of you when you're sick.

You first felt it in the back of your throat. That dry, scratchy feeling that you knew would turn into something worse if you didn't take care of it right away. Problem was, you guys had to leave that morning for a hunt. You knew, though, that if you said something to Dean, he would leave you behind. It's been weeks since the three of you had been out on a hunt. The monster world had been pretty quiet lately, and you were grateful for something to finally break the silence.

You carefully extracted yourself from Dean's arm wrapped around your middle and sat up on the edge of the bed, only to be hit by a wave of dizziness. "Whoa," you whispered. You gripped the mattress with one hand and the headboard with the other, trying to steady yourself.

This did not go unnoticed by Dean, who propped himself up on one elbow. "You okay, sweetheart?" he asked, stroking the back of your arm.

You turned to face him and gave him a quick smile. "I'm fine, Dean. I think I just sat up too fast, that's all. I'm going to start getting ready, you know we have that demon problem to take care of two towns over," you reminded him.

"You sure you're up for it? Me and Sam can cover it if you want to hang back here," Dean offered.

"I swear, I'm fine, Dean," you insisted. "This is the first case we've had in weeks, otherwise it's been radio silence. I'm getting a little stir crazy here." You leaned over and kissed his forehead, then stood up to head to the showers.

You took a nice hot and steamy shower, which felt good for a number of reasons. You hoped that doing so would help keep the germs from settling in and making a home in your sinuses. As you got dressed, you found that you felt a little better than you did when you first woke up, though not 100%. If you could just get through this hunt, you promised yourself that once you got back, you would rest and get better.

Fortunately, it was a six-hour drive to where the demons were running loose in town, so you stretched out across the back seat of the Impala. By the time you left town, you were rocked to sleep by the deep rumble of the Impala's engine.

Dean glanced back at her from the rearview mirror. He was concerned that you weren't feeling well before departing from the bunker. You were stubborn, though, and refused to stay home, insisting on joining the case. Probably good that you had been sleeping for most of the trip. Dean made up his mind that he would keep a close eye on you throughout the hunt for any new signs of illness.

"What's going on, Dean?" Sam asked as he also turned to look in the back seat. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah, I think so. She was feeling a little under the weather this morning. I offered to let her stay home from this case, but she insisted on coming with us. Hope it's nothing serious. I'll keep a close eye on her, don't worry," Dean explained.

"Oh, I know, I just hope she's feeling okay," Sam replied.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

After the three of you were successful in taking out the demons, you were looking forward to getting back home to the bunker. You had managed to hold off most of the symptoms until after the hunt was over, but you knew that your time of reckoning was coming. Hot, steamy shower, then turn in early, you thought.

Sam hit the showers first. You and Dean sat on the bed, your backs against the headboard and you started watching a movie on TV. You snuggled up to Dean, your head laying on his left thigh. He pushed a lock of hair behind your ear, and frowned a little when he felt how warm your forehead was.

"Sweetheart, are you feeling okay? You seem awfully warm, like you have a fever or something," Dean remarked.

"It's probably just a cold or something, no big deal. My throat was a little scratchy and dry this morning, and my sinuses are a little stuffy now. I'll take a nice hot and steamy shower to clear my sinuses, then turn in early so I can get lots of sleep," you promised with a sleepy smile.

"Baby, I wish I'd known you were feeling like this. Sam and I could've done this ourselves, so you could've recuperated here. You didn't have to come with us if you were sick," Dean replied.

"I know, but hunters really don't get sick days. We had a job to do, and I decided to power through to get it done. Besides, if you had left me here, I'd be worrying about things going sideways and one or both of you getting hurt. I'm not going to let a little cold get in the way of doing my job," you finished.

Dean gave up trying to argue with you as you waited for Sam to get out of the shower. Once he was done, you went in and took the hottest and steamiest shower you could stand. When you came out, you saw that the boys had gone out, probably to get something for dinner. You dried off then put on your pajama pants, a T-shirt and a sweatshirt that you had borrowed from Dean one day.

You turned off the bedroom light. You crawled under the covers and pulled them up to your neck, desperately trying to combat the chills and now aches you were feeling. It didn't help that you had wet hair, but you knew that wasn't the only reason you were cold. You pulled up the hood on the sweatshirt so it was over your head, huddled under the blankets and waited for Sam and Dean to come back.

Some time later, you felt the side of the bed dip under someone's weight sitting beside you. A hand was pressed up against your forehead, followed by a kiss. "Dammit, she's burning up, Sam. Can you get me that bottle of Tylenol out of the bag?" Dean said in a worried tone.

You cracked one eye open and saw Dean with a furrowed brow, fishing two tablets out of the bottle for you. "Hey, sweetheart, you need to take these. It'll get your fever down so you can feel better. Baby, please sit up so you can take this." You obeyed, washing the tablets down with the bottle of water Dean handed you, then your head dropped back onto your pillow. "There you go. That's my girl," he said softly as he kissed your forehead.

Dean left the room to get cleaned up. Ten minutes later, he emerged from the bathroom, freshly showered. He slipped beneath the covers and curled up next to you. He noticed that although your body felt warm, you were shivering like you were ice cold. Dean wrapped his arm around your midsection, then drew you close to him so that you were nearly flush against his body. "Good night, sweetheart. Hope you feel better in the morning," he mumbled against your shoulder.

The next morning, you still weren't feeling 100%. You knew your fever broke sometime during the night, because your pajamas were sticky from sweating under the blankets. You still had a stuffy nose, but now a hacking cough was among your list of symptoms. No kisses on the lips from Dean for a while, you thought as a cough wracked your body.

Dean's arm tightened a little around your midsection, but you gently pushed back. You wanted to take a shower after sweating so much to break your fever. You sat upright on the edge of the bed, trying to get your bearings. Dean reached over to your spot on the bed and came up empty, which woke him up out of concern. "Babe? You okay?" he asked in that husky, early morning voice.

"I'm okay, my love. I promise. Now go back to sleep. My fever broke sometime during the night, so now I feel all sweaty. I'm going to go take a quick shower," you explained, as another coughing fit came on.

Dean propped himself up on one elbow and with his free hand, and rubbed your back until you stopped coughing. "Okay, but come back to bed when you are done after your shower. You need rest, not to be up and around doing stuff," he remarked sternly.

"Yes, Dr. Winchester. I promise I will rest today and leave the doing of stuff to you and Sam," you sassed, kissing his forehead.

"Don't make me lock you in here, woman. I'll do it if that's what it takes to get you to take care of yourself and get well," he warned.

You thought for a moment, then asked, "So, if I don't do as you say, will you lock yourself in here with me? I mean, that's probably the only way to get me to do as you ask."

Dean rolled his eyes, then grinned at you. "Get thee to the showers, woman," he pointed the way, then laid back down on the bed and closed his eyes.

One shower and a change of clothes later, you took your pillow and your blanket, and curled up on one end of the couch. Dean was passing through the room and saw you all snug in your blanket. He had told you to recuperate in your bedroom, but you looked so peaceful, that he couldn't bring himself to disturb your rest. He laid a hand on your forehead and gently kissed it to gauge your body temperature. Still a little warm, he thought to himself. I'll check back on you later, sweetheart, he silently promised.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

With nothing much to do, Dean decided to watch a movie, so he put on a Clint Eastwood western. He sat next to you and rested one hand on your upper thigh while you slept. About one-third of the way through the movie, you started to toss and turn in your sleep. You were also mumbling something, as if you were having a nightmare.

From what Dean could tell, it involved him being in danger, how you couldn't get to him in time and you seemed to be crying. "Shh, sweetheart, everything's okay. I'm right here," he crooned, gently easing you into his arms. "Oh, babe, you feel so warm right now, and that's not good. We gotta get you cooled off," he remarked as he called for Sam.

"What's up, Dean? She still feverish?" he asked.

"Yeah, and I think it's getting worse. I just woke her up from a nightmare, but I wonder if the fever was causing it a little somehow. I'm worried, Sam. If we don't get her fever down and soon, we may have to take her to the hospital," Dean replied.

"Okay, you have her take a couple more Tylenol, and I'll get a cold washcloth for her forehead. Then maybe we can call Cas to see if he can be of any help," Sam said.

Over the next few hours, Dean kept a close eye on you, re-wetting the washcloth with cold water as needed and keeping it on your forehead. Around lunchtime, Dean brought you a bowl of chicken broth to help you keep up your strength. He gently nudged you awake and he was rewarded with that sleepy smile of yours that you know he loves so much.

"Hey, sweetheart, it's time for lunch. I made you some chicken broth," he said. "Careful, babe, the mug is kind of hot. Here, let me help you." You maneuvered to a sitting position while Dean held onto the mug. Once you were settled, you held out your hands and he passed you the broth, along with some crackers.

"Thank you, Dean. This was very sweet of you to make lunch for me," you said softly.

He brushed his knuckles along your cheek. "Anything for you, my love. I just want you to get better, so making some soup for you is not a big deal," he answered.

"It is for me, Dean. Love is about the little things too, like you taking care of me when I'm not feeling well," you explained. After you had finished the broth, you handed him the empty mug, which he returned to the kitchen.

When he sat back down on the couch, you wrapped yourself back up in your blanket again. You snuggled up to Dean's chest and he wrapped one arm around you, keeping you close to his side. Soon you were fast asleep.

Slowly but surely over the next day or so, your body temperature came down and stayed down, then you began to feel more like yourself. Three days after it had all started, you were finally back to normal. You decided to repay Dean for the kindness he had shown in taking such good care of you.

You opened the bedroom door to find Dean sitting in his chair, flipping through some weapons catalog. You closed and locked the door behind you, leaning against it. Dean looked up from his reading, and gave you his sexiest smile. "May I help you?" he asked.

You sauntered over to him in his chair. "I wish to thank you for the kindness that you showed me during my recent bout with illness," you replied. Leaning in next to his ear, you whispered, "I'm feeling MUCH better now." As you pulled back, you flashed him a smile, which he returned.

"Is that so?" he asked, leaning back in his chair. You nodded. "And just how will you repay this 'kindness', as you say?"

You lowered yourself onto his lap so that you were straddling his waist. "How's this for starters?" you asked breathily. He pulled you towards him and crashed his lips against yours. The intense passion in his eyes took you by surprise. When you gasped in shock, he took advantage as his tongue slid in to dance with yours. His hands roamed up and down your back, causing you to tilt your head back. Dean peppered your neck with kisses, taking a moment to nip at the skin, leaving his mark.

"Ooh, Dean, that feels amazing," you whispered. You eased yourself off of Dean's lap and started backing up towards the bed. When you felt the mattress hit the back of your legs, you sat down on the bed. Dean followed you, towering over you as his mouth continued to move in sync with yours.

"I must say, Dr. Winchester, I believe that this is the best medicine of all," you murmured.

"Woman, you say the sweetest things," Dean growled as he captured your lips again.

PEMDAS - Special Year-End Edition - Albums

I love end of year lists because I like consensus, rankings and numbers. But consensus is all based on who gets to rank, and the people who get the most access to major publication rankings are white men, so the numbers are tainted by white supremacy, misogyny, and many other forms of bigotry.

Which makes it even more interesting to see what gets ranked where.

Here’s a Google Sheet I made of all the lists and I created a formula that basically measures how many times an album placed on a list as well as how high it placed on that list. I’m going to keep updating this list as it’s not done, but it’s fun to play around with right now!

PMB Favorites: My Favorite Albums of 2020

2020 was largely year of changes that brought on a heightened sense of stress and anxiety in my life (and a lot of peoples lives as well) but when I needed it music was there to provide escapism or to color the grim and uncertain mood the year tended to bring. Here are the albums that were the soundtrack to my 2020(In no particular order). I welcome all musical recommendations.

. Squarepusher- Be Up, Hello: Squarepusher returned early in 2020 with a hard-hitting drum and bass album, filled with bright textures and poly-rhythms. The albums both exhilarating and intense listen at times. Love “Speedcrank” and “Voltrack”

Oneohtrix Point Never- Magic Oneohtrix Point Never: Released in the 4th quarter of the year Oneohtrix Point Never came through with an album strongly inspired by his love of radio growing up Magic 106.7 to be specific. The result is an album of diverse styles of pop, rock, hip-hop etc blended into the plunder-phonics that Oneohtrix fans have come to know, great project.

Lady Gaga- Chromatica: Chromatica is Lady Gaga's triumphant return to dance-pop after getting personal with Joanne (2016) and doing the Star is Born soundtrack. Chromatica, like Gaga's early work, is packed with hits and catchy tunes, i.e., the Ariana Grande assisted "Rain on Me" and "Stupid love," a great pop album and one of my favorite albums from Lady Gaga thus far.

TOPS-I Feel Alive: Tops are a band that has been progressing with each release. This album is a beautiful mix of indie-pop/dream pop that features the summery title track and the brisk synth-driven "Colder and Closer." It is one of the better indie-pop releases this year.

Dream Wife-So When You Gonna...”: Dream Wife typically has a high octane and raucous sound. So When You Gonna... calms things down a bit. They go more in-depth on this project with songs about keeping sexual agency, not seeking validation from others, and staying true to yourself. It has nearly the energy of their previous self titled LP but with lyrical depth.

Hinds-The Prettiest Curse: Hinds have gotten better with every album. The Prettiest Curse is their best thus far. The Prettiest Curse finds them expanding their sound with more lavish production and some synth-pop in there to go along with their garage rock sound. A few Great tracks on here but "Good Bad Times" and "Take Me Back" are amongst my favorites.

Nas- King’s Disease: Nas's Kings Disease maybe the best Nas release since at least Untitled and probably since the early 00s. A lot of that has to do with producer Hit-Boy who provided Nas the canvas to create a wise and timely album. "Ultra Black," "Til the War is Won" with Lil Durk, and "10 Points" are amongst my favorites on the album.

Westside Gunn- Pray for Paris: Griselda Records was dominant in 2020. Westside Gunn is a big part of that in that he released two great albums this year. The first of which was the menacing but luxurious Pray for Paris. The beats are hard and classy, and Westside's rhymes are both street and opulent/artful. "$500 Ounces", "Shawn vs. Flair," "George Bando," and "327″ are essential.

Westside- Gunn- Who Made The Sunshine: The second great album by Westside was Who Made The Sunshine. This album is a darker ominous project that sounds like quintessential Griselda. Built for grey skies and dark times, it was great on overcast days late this year. "The Butcher and the Blade," "98 Sabers and "All Praises" are my favorites on this one.

Conway The Machine- From a King to a God: Conway The Machine's From a King to a God may be the best album from the camp this year. It's an album that spans both street tales, introspection, and some social commentary. It's also found Conway getting as personal as he's gotten any album thus far. The album features high-level production from Hit-Boy, Daringer, DJ Premier, etc. "Spurs 3″, "Dough & Damani", are my favorites here.

Benny The Butcher-Burden of Proof: Rounding out the Griselda releases to make my 2020 favorites is Benny The Butcher's Burden of Proof. Burden of Proof is handled 100% by Hit-Boy, who gives Benny's hard-nosed rhymes a bit of pristine sheen without taking anything away from Benny's style. There's no real reaching here, and it ends up being an album that shows Benny can be versatile. "One Way Flight," "Timeless," "War Paint," and "Legend" rank amongst my favorites on the album.

Freddie Gibbs- Alfredo: Been following Freddie Gibbs since Pinata with Madlib in 2014, and it seems as though he hasn't missed since. I loved his 2019 project Bandanna, and Alfredo is another excellent project. Alchemist handles the production here and does a great job providing a backdrop for Freddie's fluid and vivid rhymes. There's the measured reminiscing of "Babies & Fools," the soaring "1985″, the shadowy menace of "God is Perfect," essential hip-hop listens for 2020.

Royce Da 5′9-Allegory: Royce Da 5′9 follows up his excellent Book of Ryan (not to mention PRhyme with DJ Premier) with Allegory. While his last album was decidedly a personal effort, this one finds him using his lyrical gymnastics on being the best and spitting knowledge on what's going on in rap and in general. "I Play Forever," "Tricked," "Overcomer" are the favorites here.

Princess Nokia- Everything is Beautiful: Everything is Beautiful is in my opinion, the better of two albums; Princess Nokia released in the early part of 2020, an album that finds Princess Nokia reflecting on what made her coming up in her childhood. Elastic flows and charisma with eclectic production from the likes of Adam Pallin and Tony Seltzer. Favorite cuts on this are "Green Eggs and Ham," "Wash and Sets," and "The Conclusion."

Logic-No Pressure: Logic came full circle on this album from 2014 Under Pressure to his current and (for now) final release No Pressure. No Pressure may be his best album. It's consistent all the way through, it wears its influences on its sleeve than previous albums, and it's not a knee-jerk reaction album done based on what people want from him, and it's not corny. It feels closest to pure Logic that sounds like he's just spitting about where he's at in life(dadbod) and finding peace within himself. I love this LP.

Jeezy- Recession 2: Jeezy's one of those rappers that is just solid, you know what to expect, thunderous beats, hood motivation music. Even still, Jeezy's music continues to mature as he does, touching on the ills of the ghetto, police brutality, and putting your monetary priorities in the right place. "Modern Day," "Back," "Almighty Black Dollar" are amongst my favorites here.

Roc Marciano- Mt. Marci: Roc Marciano's Mt. Marci is a darkly beautiful album. The album features collages of different soundscapes that are generally classy and ominous. Of course, Roc's stoic monotone flow continuously reeling off-kilter references and punchlines is the album's centerpiece. Roc's flow is just cold-blooded. "Covid Cough," "Downtown 81″, "Wheat 40s", and "Butterfly Effect" are among the livest tracks on this album, in my opinion.

Run The Jewels-RTJ4: Killer Mike and EL-P kill it every time they drop, and RTJ4 is no different. It's another album of high octane/great beats from EL-P and essential bars from Killer Mike and EL-P. As you'd expect, RTJ speaks to lots of issues going on today while at the same time going crazy to one-up each other bar for bar. "Ooh La La," "Out of Sight," "Never Look Back," and "Pulling the Pin" are the highlights of the project to my ears.

Megan Thee Stallion-Good News: Megan Thee Stallion has been dope since Tina Snow. Whether it's Fever or Suga, you can expect both skill and top-notch charisma and confidence from Meg’. If you've heard those projects, you know you can expect to hear Meg taking explicit agency of her sexuality, partying, rappin' her ass off, and generally commanding these tracks. There's also the drama with Tory Lanez, but the album, fortunately, isn't weighed down with ways about that. Favorites on this album include "Shots Fired," "Savage(Remix), "Movie," "Girls In The Hood."

21 Savage & Metro Boomin- Savage Mode II: 21 Savage and Metro Boomin's original Savage Mode was bleak and brooding enough to launch 21 Savage careers, and this one is similarly cold-hearted. Still, there are more varied styles of savagery here, whether we're talking the 80′s inspired "Steppin' On Niggas” or the more pop-orientated "Mr. Right Now" or the inspirational/introspective "Said N Done."

Oh? What’s that? A neutral review about Camila Cabello that has nothing to do with her morals and everything to do with her musical talent? Would you look at that, miracles actually do happy. Just last month, former Fifth Harmony member, Camila Cabello, released a song that doesn’t feature Shawn Mendes, for once, called, “My Oh My”. The song does, however, feature the rapper making his way into the mainstream, Dababy. Jonathan Kirk, professionally called Dababy, is known for his collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Nas X, along with his own hits. Recently, the official music video for “My Oh My” dropped featuring both Cabello and Dababy. The video features the setting that many creatives love glorifying—despite the awful history that it goes hand and hand with—and that’s the Golden Age of Hollywood. Silent films, sexism, dolled up women and dapper men, racism, parties filled with those dressed to the nines—y’know, the good old days. Enough of my blabbering on about how history shouldn’t be romanticized despite how pretty it looks, let’s dive into today’s narrative. The music video opens with Cabello acting in a silent film. She plays a damsel in distress, as told by the title. Her character within the video, or “the actress” as I’ll be referring to her as, is reasonably tired of being typecast in the same role. Never getting to shine as the hero, but always being regarded as the useless woman that needs saving. Like Mario and Peach, but less Italian. She tries to reason with the higher ups, made of men, to give her the role of a hero, but they refuse. So she decides to strip herself of her wig and costume and find a safe haven elsewhere. She finds herself in a bar, dressed in an oversized fur coat that only the wealthy can afford, and orders a shot from the bartender. It’s then that we hear the line “my mama doesn’t trust him,” as Dababy appears on screen—let’s file away the potential underlying meaning behind this, just for now. Dababy sees the dismayed actress and makes the effort to show her a good time. Dababy’s verse is the overlay for multiple shots of him and Cabello driving around the city in a nice car. The destination for the pair is a party, where the actress shows off her old style dance moves with a partner, presumably having the time of her life. All is well before the actress sees her own poster for the movie titled “Helpless Victim”—and listen, I know old movie titles were, at times, blunt, but I don’t think they were that lazy and upfront; look at Casablanca, for example. After coming in contact with the source of her troubles, the actress then proceeded to take a katana and slash up the movie poster—destruction of property, how lovely. Seeing the action hero potential in the starlet, Dababy’s determined to take her away from her current captors and give her the role she deserves. With enough money, her former managers decide to let the star go separate ways. The video closes with her (the actress) finally being placed in the role she sought after for so long—the hero. Overall, it was aesthetically pleasing video. Though, I do question why Camilla would make a music video set in, presumably, the early 1900s featuring a “bad boy” played by a black man. I’m not saying she did it for racial reasons—perhaps she just liked the aesthetic of the Golden Age of Hollywood—but her past makes me pause for a second and ponder. It’s not up to me whether or not there’s an underlying meaning behind the lyrics and imagery, but the average viewer can probably pick up on the undertones. Needless to say, it’s up to the viewer to decide what message Cabello is trying to send. On the musical end of things, the song is good enough. It’s a catchy radio tune about a secret romance laced with risk. Some of the lyrics will slither in your head like a clew of small worms and refuse to leave you be despite how much you beg them to—meaning, the song has done it’s job. 6.5/10

Lunch Run

I still want you by my side

Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried

Just my luck...the damn song is on in the car--on a totally different station. (Whatever happened to your playlists, anyway...all of the sudden you're back to the radio?) Turning off the music and putting the windows down, the walls are easing up and I can breathe again.

They have me looking for a certain sandwich shop. We'd gotten lunch from there before, but I've never actually been there--always just called in for delivery. (Great thinking, Einstein!) The only sound--in between the GPS guy's directions--was the buzzing and honking of the traffic. And, of course, that was slowly drowned out by the thoughts in my head. Trying to think of the lunch place--and only the lunch place--had me flashing back to searching for Johnny again...but the big pot at the end of this rainbow, isn't all that rewarding. Lunch...over seeing him again...bringing him home...where he belongs? Not really a competition...I don't care how good the sandwiches are.

Remembering being in his arms on that warm day...wearing a leather jacket...not really thinking too clearly about anything but him. I came close to telling him, one of the major reasons why I actually went through all the trouble of tracking him down. Sure, he was leaving the hospital without a doctor's okay--after a major accident. Sure, I was pissed that he ran out on us all--especially the boys--without so much as a fare thee well. But knowing that he was willing to do what he…that he almost…I had to know that he was okay. I had to bring him back. (For what...just so he could play you some more? No, I saw it it in his eyes...when he told me-- Told you what...I would if I could, but I can't? No, I know it was real. Ever heard of the Oscars, Lady? No, he took care of me after I fainted, made sure I wouldn't leave that room until I was able. Of course, he had to send you back in good health...how would it look to his adoring fans back home, if word got out that he just left you like that. No, stop that, he would never have done that...he made me feel safe and protected and-- --And what...loved...really?!...I think they have a name for that...Stockholm something. Would you quit it...he wasn't holding me captive and he wasn't torturing me. Oh really, what do you call this...sure seems like torture to me...don't you think you've had enough...after all these years and all the assholes that have crapped all over you...don't you think you deserve real happiness...nothing fake?)

I practically growled in frustration...if only to stop the wet curtain falling over my eyes. I was so deep in thought, that I missed a few turns and the navigation system was going crazy, trying to get me back on track. I put the radio back on to clear my head.

I know I've been mistaken

So, here I am...again...in the light of day--but parked across the street this time. It's quiet, the trees are flowing with the light wind...a mother is pushing her children in a stroller passed his building...just some ordinary day...like nothing happened...like we didn't tear each other apart. (It was only three days ago, you'd think there would have been some...sign...that it happened...but nothing. He called. Oh yeah, he called two maybe three times that night, which you promptly ignored. I couldn't...not yet, it was...I was too. Yeah well, nothing since...and no heads up when he got back into town...guess that whole strike first, strike hard bull shit only applies to anyone and anything but you, huh?)

*phone rings*

"Hey, Mamasita--"

*half smiles at the friendly distraction* "oh, hey, Jojo...when, uh, when are you bringing Vicki over to the house? Don't make me come over there and ambush you and the family."

"Well, that depends...are you gonna keep your appointment? You know, if you've changed your mind, it's not too late to do a little tweaking."

(We went over this...this is about you shedding your fancy, fake Encino skin...this is about you remembering who you are--no matter how it happened...and if you want, it'll be like remembering the 'good times'...because you know those never last anyway.) *sighs with determination* "No. I'll be there. Everything goes as planned. *hears a pause on his end* I'm serious, I'm good to go, Joseph."

"Okay...Friday then. Well, I just called to check in, before I talk to Pops tomorrow. Want me to add anything to the weekly dispatch?"

I can hear in his voice...he knows something is up...he's trying to get it off my mind by bringing up old news...old news I've not talked about in years. "No, that's something I've got to do myself."

"Okay, that's fair enough. Take care, Sis."

"Thanks, Joey. You too." *hangs up*

With one last look at the apartment complex...and a deep steadying breath...I drive away...getting back to my original quest for lunch.

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Slovenia to Eurovision with a dreamy couple

Oh boi, now here comes another NF I wasn’t interested in. I don’t hate EMA as a thing, it’s just that it’s infamous for not listening to what people want most of the time, often axing their faves (BQL, Raiven, Nika Zorjan, even going as far back as Saša Lendero and Nina Pušlar...). This year it seemed like Raiven finally had what it takes with her post-dubstep-era dubstep tune, “Kaos”. BUT did she go? Oh nope

Instead we got possibly the best thing that ever happened to Slovenia. That thing is this one entry sung by a cute crossover of Lorde and that trombone fetus thing from Courage the Cowardly Dog (well, at least she looks better than him, hence why ‘cute’), Zala Kralj, and she has her 2-year-long partner Gašper Šantl by her side too, to make up the musical part for the couple’s Eurovision 2019 entry for Slovenia, “Sebi”.

Let’s start reviewing this by complimenting its atmosphere. It’s cosmic. It’s pure. It’s pleasant. I feel like I’m floating among the stars... in the same way as if someone is projecting a star backdrop on a wall and I’m just against the projection, dancing silly. I feel like I’m covered in stardust. This is achieved by the composition of the song, which is very melodic, although a bit background-music-like. It incorporates a lot of those softened hi-hats, soaring synth waves and harmonious additional backing vocals (I think I heard those? whatever that was that adds more depth and gorgeousness to the song...). The lyrics are also cute, the poetry here is pretty fascinating, and I love the hints of intimacy and nature. The chorus reminds me that you have to stay true to what you are and who you stand for, and you don’t need to apologize for being different. Something along the lines of this. And Zala sounds like a person that could do a vocal ASMR therapy - and I imagine that as something that gives tingles to my neck everytime I hear it. You just need to strip the melody away and let me listen to more of those silent, soft-spoken, eerie whispers, and usually I feel creeped out and want it to stop, but at the same time it’s seducing and oddly enough I want some more.

This song has its faults though - it’s supposedly the song being repetitive (look at that chorus’ lyrics, just repeating 3 lines during it doesn’t really suffice, especially with the song being composed like THAT), Zala’s vocals being so hauntingly chill they even sound too calming or too monotonous, and this song is a simple electronic track with it just flowing all so well? Like, it’s something you’d find more on an unknown project’s Bandcamp page and that project usually has 1500 views or so on their videos. It’s a soothing ocean, it’s a galaxy, but sometimes the silence overwhelms you too much you just want to fucking scream... or fall asleep and miss the beauty of it all.

So as a whole it’s a stellar ride through galaxies and supernovas: the song. Great production, slight lo-fi vibe (idk how to explain it but everything here feels so... hmm... soft tune and quiet vocals make it to be something of the more indie-er side of a lower-cost production I suppose?) and sparks of pure bliss raining down on me whenever I remember or hear it. Truly, truly some indie goodness.

The most interesting part? The guys seem too overwhelmed about their Eurovision experience! Sure, Eurovision doesn’t require a too-laidback approach from the participants, but there always are Eurovision non-enthusiasts (seriously, don’t yell at Eurovision participants on Youtube comments when they fail to recognize a language of a song’s from a previous year! Just because they didn’t hear it and/or forgot the language, doesn’t mean they need to be put at stake), or those who just didn’t expect to win their NFs and then are like “shit um now I need to do something about that Eurovision thing I guess”. Salvador never really watched it before, AWS didn’t really hope to participate in Eurovision at the early stages of their NF, now we don’t really hear much Eurovision news and shit from these two Slovenians... well except of them releasing a shortened version of their song so it could comply to Eurovision’s lenght rules (giving it an apt sub title - “Dare to Dream Version”), declaring that one line of the song’s will be sung in English so that everyone not speaking in Slovenian could understand it better (just like Lea sang the end of “Hvala, ne!” in Portuguese because... well we all understand either of them, do we? lol) and that their staging will be similar to the one they had in EMA, and that their stage clothes won’t be the same but of a similar light color. They do have Eurovision in mind, but not quite as much as some other participants, and that’s perfectly fine. As long as they do their job right, that matters.

Approval factor: I may let you in on a little secret here - this is, in fact, my absolute favourite Slovenian entry this decade, if not overall. I have a hard time approving Slovenian entries because they end up lacking something at the end. This one... kinda fits in well with me, so Zala and Gašper did enough of THAT to warrant a big fat thumbs up for me.

Follow-up factor: Wasn't a big fan of Lea's song, BUT I can confirm that she started something good for Slovenia in Eurovision, especially after qualifying. And the couple certainly continued it, so it moves on well! ^^

Qualification factor: Now that's an interesting question... I might be wrong but a part of me fears for them to become the fan favourite duo/couple with a really pretty song that doesn’t qualify, like it already happened to Norma John and ZiBBZ before. They even have been drawn to semifinal 1, ffs. But maybe there’s still a spark of hope somewhere for the two, and I’d be inclined to believe that there is. I don’t wanna see sLOVEnia flop on the year I like their song, ffs. So I’m seeing a borderline result for thee, you the nation of usually fairly-underrated songs. Maybe this cosmic sea beauty will be in them finals.

NATIONAL FINAL BONUS

So, EMA 2019, eh? I guess that was a thing that happened. I at least admire the fact that they used dancing robots for their “not-so-postcards-but-postcards” that played before each performance (I mean, you’d get camera shots of the stage being set up for the act to perform next with their info graphic in the NF’s LED background and next to it there was a re-creation of The Creation of Adam with the other hand being one of a robot’s <3, then cut to EMA’s visual design of the year and the dancing robot person, another shot to the performing act, and then lights out). They had a good time there. And there was a duet singing Salvador Sobral’s ESC winning song, one of them performed by a person who had to be Salvador for a TV show. Ah, fun. I wasn’t all in up for the she-bang (instead I watched A Dal Semi 2 and Supernoval final on that night), but I got some other goodies that I noticed that people noticed before me, for y’all to reminisce. Here are some moments and some songs that lost to this lovely pair:

• So what’s the deal with Raiven, anyway? She’s on the show for her third time, and has already firmly grasped onto the iconic NF partaker’s status, together with.. well... other NF 3-timers (that are mostly from Sweden). This time she went all her way out to prove y’all that “dubstep’s not dead in 2019!!!1″ with her song, “Cows” “Kaos”, and a rather interesting effect show taking place on her face. I don’t know why but Raiven’s and Aly Ryan’s from Germany stagings remind me of each other, maybe because of them being so interesting? Anyway, like as usually, this multicolored songstress failed to grasp the victory of her country’s national final, and honestly, good for that to happen because in my irrelevant opinion, the dubstep in “Kaos” is ridiculously unnecessary and it doesn’t make the song flow very well. Just rework the chorus to make it more suited to the song and maybe it could have worked, as the last 30 seconds and the verses actually rock! I love me some songs that make me feel like I’m listening to sunset transcribed to actual melodies and sounds.

• The 2015 entrant couple, Raay and Marjetka, are incredibly restless for some reason, and it’s that because they have co-written quite a few songs over the past few years even since their eventual victory as themselves in 2015. Maybe they’re the Slovenian Stig Rästa, probably as in “we loved the Eurovision green room experience so we always want some more!” kind of way. This year they did 2 songs: an electro-swing inspired number about Fridays and “spending some quality time with one’s girls” for the Slovene JESC debutee Ula Ložar and a radio-pop-esque track for a lady named Kim (not Verson). The one that I gravitated towards more will have its video down below and it is probably obvious a bit now. And if it was my will, I’d’ve replaced Raiven with the below lady in the superfinal because... frankly, yet again, I’ll restate that imo it wasn’t Raiven’s year even without the eventual winners having participated...

• For a country of whose NF’s I didn’t seem to care about, they indeed had quite a few nice numbers. I already shed my thoughts on 2 of them, now here’s another one. Somehow, most countries out there shied away from having rock songs (well except Hungary because I don’t really see any other NF with more than 3 of those clearly audible rock/metal tracks, maybe has to do with the fact they already sent one last year), and as a result, none of the actually submitted ones won because things didn’t really go well with even the slightest rock-sounding songs last year (except one of them almost got into top 10). So one of the rock gems we happened to lose came from Slovenia. INMATE brought the 00s American alt-rock sound that was popular with uncomfortable teens that acted outrageous with their song “Atma” (which somehow means “soul”??). And man they were banging.

• There’s not much I want to say about the rest of the NF’s gems that you missed. Well, there was one song about horses that is considerably well-received by the fandom, perhaps because of the slow and relaxing ballad sound that surrounds it (but they don’t know the lyrics enough to start hating it). And a song co-written by last year’s Svenskfloppen winner that, as he was destined to, flopped in Melodifestivalen as well. And a decent club track that was actually one of my other favourites, together with “Atma”. And some 00s teen sitcom theme song performed by a completely-careless-about-their-image-band (they call themselves Lumberjack but they dress nothing like ‘em, I assure you) with chill-surfer-attitude-bearing, long-haired lead singer. They brought in a nice vibe at least with their color-splashing LED images and slightly energetic performance. And like I said about how the lead singer looked... well just look at him and try to not see him as a troublemaker teen archetype from a high school rom com or at least irl that can’t score a date:

• Lea Sirk, besides performing the ESC winning song from two years ago in a duet with someone, and obviously re-appearing to be a honourable guest after having won EMA last year after like 4-5 tries, also served her part as a jury member. Y’know, one of those people that maybe visibly or not visibly tried to push Raiven to her eventual EMA win after her 3 tries so that she wouldn’t become an annoying NF hogger for years on end. Well that didn’t happen because the televoters went for the Zalšper couple! You gotta love it when the teleaudience picks that song for Eurovision that is performed by those that didn’t specifically submit it because they wanted Eurovision, right? Well apparently, Lea took the loss of Raiven as a small stab to her heart and was heard complaining about the unexpected outcome (simply not being able to believe Raiven lost), out loud, to the viewing audiences at home and in front of computer screens. Yep, THAT happened... And I couldn’t be bothered to find a clip of it anymore, so instead I’ll post some pictures of a visibly shook Lea with her new hairdye on fleek (I guess that was to reflect Raiven’s love for hair dye?):

With all that out of the way, I just really hope for this lovey-dovey duo all the best possible with having to carry the responsibility of representing a country in a very big European music competition on their shoulders. They aren’t seemingly stressed out themselves from the looks of it (if they were in a Brantsteele’s Hunger Games simulation, they’d be those people who’d pick flowers all the time), but you know what happens when you’re given such a big honour but you let what the honour stands for down, upsetting the others who look up to the honour somehow. Terrible, terrible things. Hope the haters don’t grind these two down if anything happens. Srečno!
