Without crossovers my life would be so boring. I mean, I figured out about so many things through crossovers.

I learned about Tokyo Ghoul and D.Gray-Man through Blue Exorcist crossovers, I found out about Invader Zim, Danny Phantom, and Supernatural through this weird Homestuck centred mega crossover (fandomstuck) and I was convinced to look into Supernatural, along with Teen Titans, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Young Justice, Marvel movies, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Kim Possible, American Dragon: Jake Long, Batman the Animated Series, X-Men Evolution, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and so many more things through Danny Phantom crossovers.

If you want to get me to watch something, write a good crossover with it and Danny Phantom. It has worked with so many things so far.

In similar vein as the video game art post, but a lot of y’all will bemoan edgy™️ roboots of shows. And complain about how the “adult language”, drugs or unnecessary gore/violence can ruin a show. Or like with let’s say Young Justice and Samurai Jack have some very jarring scenes/episodes that does always mesh well with the rest of the store. And on a more individual/smaller scale with get how gritty™️ edits/fan theories of you favorite childhood show a lot of times at best cheesy but at worse really messed. And that get grimdark for no reason other than to be grimdark.

But the moment someone applies the same logic to oversexualizing certain kids or just not that sexual works, everyone loses their mind. And you’ll get accused of being sex shaming for saying “hey maybe don’t write an x rated blue clues fanfic with equally explicit art”. And this isn’t me saying all sexual work in fandoms is bad but there are fandoms where is wildly inappropriate or more so just unnecessary.

A prime example would the whole Brony thing. When MLP FIM was initially airing I was in middle school. And at this point in my life, I getting into anime* and was watching a lot less American/Western shows. And got recommended MLP by friends who also watched a lot of anime and also introduced to me Homestuck. *a lot of shows I probably shouldn’t have watched at that age* And as I got more into the fandom it very clear how many fans will drastically older than me. And I want to make it clear, I don’t think adults being in kid geared fandoms/ liking kid directed shows/work is inherently bad. But that adults in these spaces especially but all spaces need to do better at 1) protecting kids/younger members 2) respecting boundaries of those younger members.

Hi! I'm doing a project/paper on fandom and identity; is there a way to see the top ships on AO3 in terms of fics published, or in terms of total hits for the ships (if the latter is possible)?

Hey!  There’s no quick way to get the top ships.  I’ve written some scripts that help find the top fandoms overall, and then gather the numbers from the Sort & Filter sidebar for most popular characters, ships, etc. (but some of them are currently broken, so I can’t quickly run them for you).  There’s no quick way to get total hits for ships; some other folks like @fffinnagain​ have written scripts to scrape all the information for every work, and that’s the only way to do it – it’s very time consuming.  You could much more quickly get the median number of hits for a given ship, or look at how many hits the most popular works for that ship get (I can give further explanation if needed).

I can help a bit by giving you the current list of AO3 fandom tags with over 10K works, and then you can find the top ships for as many of those fandoms as you want to over at fandomstats.org.  (Note that there’s a bunch of overlap/redundancy among some of these.)  Good luck!
