Sirius grinned out of nowhere. There was something diabolical about that grin; it had an edge to it.

“What?” James asked. 

Sirius’ smile widened.

“I have an idea. Something new and different for you.” 

“And what would that be?” James asked, somewhat nervously.

Sirius dimmed his smile a bit and gave James an appraising look.

“Do you trust me?”

James nodded immediately. 

“Fully,” he said without any hesitation, “with my life.”

“Okay then,” Sirius said, “let me set you up on a blind date.”

James was immediately taken aback by that. Who on Earth would Sirius be setting him up with? He voiced his question, and Sirius just waived the thought away. 

“Wouldn’t be a blind date if I told you. Will you do it? I swear it’ll be fun for you.”

James shrugged. 

“Sure, why not.”

“That’s the spirit,” Sirius said, jumping up out of his chair. “Gotta go set the other side of this up, back in a jiff.”

James just nodded, and watched him go.

Three days later, James went to the restaurant where he’d been directed, and there was already someone standing outside, cautiously watching him approach. 

Regulus. 

“You,” Regulus said, obviously just as confused as James was.

“You,” James echoed. “Sirius sent you?”

“Yeah,” Regulus muttered, “I’m never going to him about anything ever again.”

James couldn’t help but laugh. 

“Well alright then, let’s go and we can just have a laugh about it after.”

Regulus nodded helplessly. 

“Fine. He said he’d cover lunch. I’m going to get all of the most expensive things on the menu just to spite him.”

James found himself laughing again, unexpectedly. Regulus was kind of funny.

And then an hour later, James found himself a little surprised. 

Because you know what?

Sirius had been right.
