After the Rain Falls — Zo x Ivvira

I have zero motivation for Horizon fandom things at the moment which does not bode well for the rarepair fic I committed to write that's due iiiiiiin

8 days.

Oh no.

Anyways, here's a snippet of some Zo/Ivvira. Plz pray I get all the bit n' pieces strung together into something vaguely coherent to post.

She knew the lifecycle of grief. Or rather she knew that it wasn’t much of a cycle at all. It moved in its own way, swelling and retreating as it pleased. She was simply at its mercy. The routines she’d established helped a great deal. Having a network of friends she could rely on for support and distraction was invaluable and watching Valea grow gave her life a truly beautiful new purpose.

But even all those wonderful, helpful, good things failed on the worst days.

Varl was gone. He would not come back. 

And sometimes it was simply impossible to bear that truth.

“She is moving well.”

Zo turned at the voice, finding Ivvira standing at the top of the steps, watching as Valea pushed herself back up to her feet, intent on continuing her quest to capture the tantalizing leaf she’d been chasing. She only made it a few awkward steps before she was back in the grass.

Ivvira chuckled as she approached. “May I?” she asked, gesturing to the spot next to Zo. Once she had the quietly nodded approval, she stretched out in the sun. Valea had decided against pursuing the leaf, distracted by the waves she could make in the grass. “Has she been trying long?”

“Just since yesterday,” Zo murmured. She’d hardly been able to stand upright on her own two feet the night before, grunting in annoyance as her tiny feet refused to cooperate with her wishes. Then she’d awoken ready to run. 

Another pang pulsed beneath her ribs.

Conversation lapsed as they watched Valea investigate a particularly interesting collection of dirt and rocks. Zo was attuned to every grunt and wobble as the toddler began arranging nature to better suit her preferences.

“Will you be staying for the Kulrut?”

“No.” The word was padded with Zo’s gentle politeness but the quickness she’d uttered it betrayed her. She offered Ivvira a soft smile. “We’ll be heading back to Plainsong before the midday meal.”

(this worked out as a rather fitting closer for the Final Day in Year of Shadow haha, hope ya'll have a fun new year! 🎉🎉🎉)

I think we as a fandom need to have more talks about ✨dramatic✨ Jason running his own AO3 blog where he posts increasingly violent and heart wrenching stories about Robin. (The second Robin. Because he’s absolutely self inserting.)

And the Batfam find out about those fic that have a startlingly detailed layout of the batcave and accurate patrol routes that they choose to investigate (by reading the fics, duh) and growing increasingly upset about how the characters are portrayed.

Especially Robin.
