Tutoring was something that you found to be pretty easy… most days. It was something that you found to be pretty simple and rewarding. Getting someone to understand something because you helped them out? Hell yeah!

But then there were days like this one, where you hated tutoring. Moments with snotty nosed, lazy underclassmen that were obligated to sign up for tutoring by their frats or sororities unless they wanted to get dropped, where you had to step in and play a role of authority. It wasn’t hard to track someone down at their class or across the student union, but coming to the frat house or sorority house? No, thanks! There were far too many people at these that you didn’t know and having to play the strict role around strangers was something you didn’t want to do. These fraternity and sorority presidents were struct though, stricter than you when they reached out and not only encouraged, but pushed you to push their brothers and sisters to pass the class they needed tutoring for.

So here you were on the front porch of the Nu Chi Theta fraternity, waiting. You rang the doorbell, waiting patiently for someone to answer. Glancing at the time, minutes ticked by, one after the other. You cleared your throat, ringing the doorbell again. “Doesn’t anyone around here do more than sit on their ass?” You heard someone shout.

Oh great, an angry male coming right in your direction. The door opened and your eyes widened traveling up, up, up until you finally made eye contact with a tall guy with his hair tucked under a backwards hat. His face was calm and a lot more welcoming than you were expecting after hearing his annoyed yelling. “I’m sorry about that. Did you need something?” He asked in a voice that was warm and relaxed— attractive even.

You’d seen this guy around before, Fratboy!Johnny, he was hard to miss. He was tall, he did well academically, he was on the basketball team, and he was super charismatic. You were sure you’d had him in some kind of general ed class when you were a freshman and your tiny crush had developed there. How couldn’t it when he always had a bright smile on his face and confidently answered the professor’s questions?

You blinked hard, shaking your head, that’s not what you’re here for! You cleared your throat again, “I’m Mark’s tutor-”

“Mark has a tutor?” Johnny interrupts with a look of confusion.

Another guy walks behind him, “oh yeah, Taeyong made him sign up because he’s like a percentage or two away from flunking his history class.”

Your cheeks flush, “actually, he’s skipped out on our last three sessions so he might actually be failing now.”

“That little shit. Come on in, I’ll show you to his room,” Johnny groans, opening the door wider for you to follow behind him.

The door shuts behind you and you’re immediately met with a sight of a totally stereotypical frat house. It’s everything you’ve imagined and you’re not sure that’s a good thing… The floor is sticky beneath your feet, a stale stench of beer and weed permeate the air. There are mix matched couches on your right and to your left, a dining room with mix matched chairs and tables. You can see some guys in the living room playing a video game, a few more guys are out in the backyard. You think you see someone actually studying in the dining room with a girlfriend maybe? You’re not sure, but you do think it’s cute that she kisses his dimples when he gets something right. The major thing that sticks out to you though, is that this house is run by only guys. It’s so obvious, in a bad way. It lacks the simplest, consistent female touch.

Behind Johnny, you follow him up the stairs and down a hall until he knocks on a closed door. He doesn’t give any time for an answer to be called out, he just pushes the door open. There, in a room messier than you’ve ever seen, sits Mark with a guitar on his lap.

His eyes are wide at the sight of his frat brother and tutor in his doorway. He drawls out your name awkwardly, “heyyyy, didn’t expect to see you here…”

“You’ve been skipping your tutoring sessions haven’t you?” Johnny asks, though to you, it sounds a lot more like an accusation.

“Not skipping… just opting not to go,” Mark replies sheepishly.

“Do you know that she has to sit around and wait for you when you don’t show up? Did you consider that? Or that if you fail your history class, you’ll have to drop out of the frat and have to find somewhere else to live! Come on, Mark!” Johnny exclaims exasperatedly.

“I don’t want to fail!” Mark retorts, setting his guitar aside, “it’s just— look, I’m a music major alright? You do a great job of tutoring me but you can’t make history fun, you just make it easier for me to understand.”

A little piece of your pride is broken at that, you are a history major after all, but you can understand where Mark is coming from. You sigh, “look, Johnny is right. You only need to pass this class and then your general history requirements will be met. We just need to get you to pass your midterm and your final and you’ll never have to see me again. I want to help you pass Mark, not just because I’m getting paid to help you. You’re actually pretty cool.”

Johnny chuckles, bumping your elbow with his own, “you don’t have to fluff his ego and tell him that he’s cool. He’s not. Now, up you get Mark, clean your shit up and get your ass downstairs to the kitchen so you can do some studying.”

Mark huffs, “why would I have to clean before I go study?”

“Mark, your room is a mess,” you chime in, taking a look around the space covered with strewn clothes and loose papers.

“Now!” Johnny adds snapping his fingers in Mark’s direction. He turns to you, “come on, we can wait for him downstairs. Do you want anything to eat or drink?”

You shake your head, following him back down to the kitchen where you plant yourself in a stool at the counter. He grabs himself a water, slides one over to you too before he just stares at you. He narrows his eyes and you feel like he’s judging you and you begin to get nervous and shy again, avoiding his intense gaze.

Finally, he breaks the silence, “you look really familiar. Did we have a class together or something?”

Your cheeks heat up and you nod slowly, “I think so. Maybe like a political science class a few semesters ago.”

He claps his hands and a smile brightens his handsome face, “that’s it! You sat a few rows ahead of me!”

You dig your nail into the plastic of the water bottle you’re not so subtly mauling in your grip, “there’s no way you remember me. There were like 200 something people in that class.”

“Well, you remember me,” Johnny shoots back with a nonchalant shrug.

“Because you knew everything! You answered a lot of questions and your presentations were really good,” you reply, trying to fight the heat on your cheeks with a sip of water.

He smiles at you, too cocky and handsome for your nerves right now, “and I remember you because you were the cute girl that was always in class before me no matter how hard I tried to beat you to class. I had to walk by your row to get to my seat and you always had your notes ready to go before the professor was even there.”

You freeze. You don’t even know how to respond to his flirting. It is flirting, right? Luckily, or maybe not so luckily, Mark chooses that moment to make his presence known, “oh gross, don’t flirt in front of me.”

“It’s not gross,” you immediately deny.

At the same time Johnny laughs sarcastically, “you don’t get to call the shots around here, little guy.”

Mark squints and flits his eyes between the two of you, “you guys already have a weird dynamic and I don’t like it.”

“Don’t talk to your tutor like that,” Johnny interjects with a finger pointed in his direction, “now sit down and listen so you don’t flunk a general ed history class.”

Mark plops down next to you, laying out all his study materials with an annoyed huff. Johnny watches on with a proud look, his gaze meets yours once more, “hey, don’t forget to say bye before you leave, alright?”

You nod, biting your inner lip to suppress a shy smile, “alright.”

Johnny gives you one last smile before leaving you and Mark to study. Mark rolls his eyes, “you know, I came to college to not have my parents around, not to find a younger, hornier replacement for them.”

You shove his shoulder, “shut up, Mark!”

“Yeah Mark, shut up!” You can hear Johnny yell out.

You try to ignore the look on Mark’s face that all too clearly reads ‘I told you so.’

People really love to cynically abuse that whole "old dead white men" line don't they. Like there is a very genuine issue with how various systems of oppression (racism, misogyny etc.) mean that thinkers from privileged backgrounds got a disproportionate amount of attention and praise compared to those from a more marginalised position, with the theoretically contributions of the latter getting frequently mis-attributed or outright ignored. It doesn't mean that the contributions from said privileged thinkers are all inherently worthless on that basis alone.

Like it's a classic example of the way that liberals take structural critiques and turn them into a matter of personal morality. "Overrepresentation of privileged thinkers is bad" gets turned into "Privileged thinkers are all bad people". And it always gets used in the most cynical way possible. You hardly ever see this line used on thorough reactionaries like Nietzsche. It's mainly used to denounce progressive thinkers who, whatever flaws they had and bigotries they were unable to escape, still made innumerable contributions to the causes of liberation and laid the groundwork that was later developed and expanded by marginalised theoreticians. Like people should definitely read more Ho Chi Minh and Amilcar Cabral and Angela Davis, but that doesn't diminish the value of Marx and Lenin.

As important as it is to remind people of the contributions that marginalised people all over the world have made to Marxism (if only because even many Marxists themselves fail to appreciate this*), using it counter the whole "dead white guys" gotcha misses the point of why it's such a stupid thing to say. Because that line is a critique of a system, and it loses all power and meaning when removed from that context applied on the level of individuals. Bigotry is a dialectical structure and not a metaphysical condition; possessing privilege matters in terms of interaction with the broader world not as an ontological fact of your existence. Individuals do matter to some extent, but mainly in terms of how they fit into broader systems and not how systems fit around individuals. You need to realise all this if you want to get anywhere. This individualist bullshit only works as a tool for personal gratification and flagellation; it's masturbatory in the worst possible way

*even if you consciously support an ideology of anti-bigotry, it takes discipline and vigilance to properly unlearn all the biases instilled by life under Imperialist Capitalism and not everyone is successful at applying this

• Buggy has a curse of twins. No matter what if he gets a women pregnant It will result in him having twins.

• Due to the fact his first few sexual acquaintances were 'Paying Lovers' he does collect his kids and either has them apart of the crew or finds them a very nice homes if they aren't interested in being a Pirate.

• His kids do look like him but it's a healthy mix- His eyes and Hair Color seemingly to be his strongest genes since each of his kids has at least one of those unique characteristics.

• Still prefers his single players life so doesn't settle with anyone. However running into old flames often means meeting new kids.

• Surprisingly remembers all his kids names, will write them letters constantly.

• Will he thrilled if any of them ate interested in pirating- his oldest of kids may already be working on another Pirates ship.

• Surprisingly large amount are actually Marines! So he gets special privileges of his daughters using their political power to not get him arrested-

• Introduces every daughter he has to the crew.

• The crew Secretly has a tally-board of how many kids Shanks has in the crews quarters

• "Hey Ben! How many does this new girl make?" Lucky Roux called out as he tossed the chalk to Yasopp

• "28nd girl-" Ben says calmly and smirks as Yasopp adds another Tally to the board.

• "28 Girls and 1 Boy. Good on you Luffy" The crew laughs at the stupidity of it all.

Mihawk

• Mihawk will never say it out loud but- He was a man-whore in his youth. A Massive Man-Whore.

• Knows he has a lot of bastard kids. But will at the moment only focus on the one he has with his S/O.

• When his permanent S/O finds out that Mihawk has a lot of illegitimate children they urge him to meet and even help his kids.

• At first he begrudgingly agreed- Only because his S/O asked him. Assuming he only had a good handful-

• He was wrong- So very very Wrong.

• It wasn't until he went out to collect them did he realize it was a good Idea what his S/O had suggested-

• Many of his children were in less then savorable situations. Some in orphanages, the streets picking through trash, even others working as servants or worse.

• What started as a scoffing agreement turned into the biggest rescue mission of his life.

• Once done he had the grand total of 87 Kids.

• His genes being incredibly strong since his kids all looked like him- to at least some degree.

• The main indicator was the yellow eyes- Damn near every child had his eyes. Some had his dark hair or his stoic features. But it was mainly his eyes-

• Is quiet around kids and even a bit awkward. Especially when they are in the adolescent age and talk far too much for his taste.

• By the end the castle back on his Island was actually at full occupancy. Every room filled and some of the smaller children even sharing rooms.

• He ended up hiring a full staff as well to help care for the children, especially any younger ones.

• Cost him a fortune- His wallet screaming at him buying more food, clothes, staffing, medical care and toys.

• S/O is happy since now the castle is so alive and filled with life. Makes them happy

• Mihawk laying in bed before he gets jumped on by kids. Scrambling awake as he sees 5 of his younger children laughing at seeing his startled face and runs off like little imps-

• Younger children haven't figured out to be afraid of him yet so they will run over him. He will be sitting there trying to read while a 3 year old uses him as a jungle gym.

the reliance of college students on gen ai thing is particularly crazy to me as a college writing instructor whos also about to finish an educational psychology certificate because like one huge thing ive learned in my classes is that the american college system is pretty dogshit at teaching students when it comes both to content mastery and also preparing them for the workforce. like these kids are graduating college and going into jobs that they have their degrees in and dont know how to thrive in the workforce and Also dont really know much about the thing they got their degree in. and theres a lot of reasons for that that i could go over in depth but i'll spare yall

BUT the thing that college is like the most decent at is changing the way people think about knowledge itself. further education (high school to undergrad to graduate school) is a huge factor in what develops your epistemological beliefs (epistemology being the nature and theories of knowledge). like your epistemology does naturally change as you get older, but with further education you learn that knowledge itself is complex, ever changing, and interrelated, meaning you inherently trust "facts" less and actually perform critical thinking when presented with new information

but,,,,,, with that new study microsoft did on generative ai showing that usage of gen ai in the workplace can lead to the degradation of independent problem solving skills and that people who trust gen ai actively use less critical thinking to do tasks,,, and that giving yourself fewer opportunities for critical thinking degrades your ability to think critically at all even when it comes to important tasks,,,

like. all these students are using gen ai and sometimes their classes are actively encouraging them to use gen ai and i fear were losing like the one big thing american undergrad is good for bc lets be real its pretty dogshit at everything else

•°• GOKU x Loner!READER x CHI CHI •°•

+ You were new around the area and didn't have much of a plan of settling anywhere. You kind of started setting up camp around the outskirts of the city to get by. Little did you know, you set up camp somewhat close to a certain someones home.

+ Goku spotted your camp flying back from training one day and immediately stopped to check it out. You were a bit startled when the saiyan descended from the sky into your camp, but eased up a bit when you sensed he didn't mean any harm.

+ He immediately bombarded you with a load of questions of where you were from and what you were doing out here all by yourself. Normally these questions would have given off a vibe that the person was suspicious of their intentions, but Goku was just being his usual goofy, friendly self.

+ The conversation was fairly one sided with Goku doing most of the talking and you giving very short/vague responses. Though despite you seeming somewhat distant, Goku's friendly demeaner never seemed to falter, which gave you somewhat of a nice feeling.

+ The one sided conversation somehow led to you being dragged invited to dinner at his house. Chi Chi ended up scolding Goku for bringing a guest over last second, but immediately changed her tone to warm and inviting when talking with you.

+ This started to become a regular thing after a while. Goku would stop by your camp and immediately bring you over to have dinner with him and Chi Chi. Your one sided conversations, slowly growing into meaningful ones with the both of them. You also found yourself getting more emotionally attached to them as well.

+ After a while, you found yourself visiting Chi Chi while Goku was away to keep her company. You would help her out with small things around the house and then sit down with her to enjoy some reading and beverages. When Goku would come home, you would go with him to grab some ingredients needed for that nights dinner.

+ It wasn't long before they extended an offer to make room for you in their house. They knew that you had your camp, but you were already practically living there at this point. Never did you think you would end up settling down, but you were in no way against the plan.

+ The longer you spent with them, the more things started to develop between all of you. Lingering touches and longing stares shared with each other made all parties involved start to question these feelings. Goku of course had no qualms against loving the two of you, but Chi Chi was a tad worried about how others would perceive bringing a third into the relationship. It didn't take long for her to push these thoughts aside and just go with what felt right.

+ It was a bit of a learning process for all of you, but you made it work. You generally spent most of your time helping Chi Chi and relaxing with her at home while Goku was away. She definitely loved the cuddle sessions you shared in the early morning (and sometimes you even convinced Goku to stay in bed a bit longer too for these)

+ You would listen to all of Goku's stories and explain what training Vegeta and him went through. If you were a bit of a fighter yourself, you would probably join him from time to time to observe. You also worked as a middle man between the two of them and in a way brought them closer together.

+ To think you had spent most your time by yourself just to end up in such a loving relationship. Life was never dull and it was full of love.

The King of all the Realms

DP x MK Prompt (My sister enjoys Mortal Kombat, and I got this idea after seeing her play MK11 recently)

The Infinite Realms, a Realm that is where all the dead go to, mortals, God's, and Titans. The Ghost King is the ruler of all the Realms, but when Pariah was sealed, the Realms slowly forgot about the Ghost King, only the Elder Gods, God's, the Demi-Gods, and the Titans know about the Ghost King.

Danny, the current heir to the Throne of the Infinite Realms after he bested Pariah, mourns his timeline. Kronika had reset the timeline he was from, and Clockwork, the first Keeper of the Hourglass before Kronika, could only save him.

Danny, having spent a few timelines worth of mourning, decides to get stronger and avenge his timeline.

He spends another couple of timelines training. He learns different martial arts, gains as many powers as he can, and plans how to take Kronika down. That is, until he learns about the new timeline Kronika has made.

He spends most of MK9 watching it unfold. It isn't until MKX that he begins his plans to take down Kronika. Because of Johnny Cage, he has remnants of power from the Infinite Realms because of his bloodline when the Cult learned of the Infinite Realms. It was the battle Johnny and Shinnok had that piqued his interest.

He intercepts Raiden when the Thunder God is on his way to where the Elder Gods are and brings him to his Keep. Danny pretends to be another Elder God that has been cast aside and sealed away. Danny, who goes by Phantom to Raiden, gives Raiden advice on how to do things whenever he intercepts Raiden. He tells the Thunder God to he Johnny Cage develop his powers, convincing the Thunder God that Johnny Cage has ties to Danny because of their "shared powers" when the Cult had gotten power from the Infinite Realms.

He wanted Shinnok's Amulet to get the Fallen Elder God to either join his side or take his powers to further his plans to take down Kronika, but Clockwork told him that Kronika would learn of him and if Danny did follow that plan of his, Shinnok would eventually kill Danny, with the help of Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Sindel, and Shao Khan, who would have become powerful Liminals because of Shinnok.

When Cassie is born, he tells Raiden to do the same to her, help her develop the powers she has. He tells Raiden that Shinnok will return, because Clockwork told Danny but kept that bit from Raiden, and to train as many people as he can for the fights that are to come.

After Shinnok is defeated and Raiden becomes corrupt by the Amulet, Danny tells Raiden about the upcoming time merger that Kronika plans to do. He also tells Raiden that soon, he will be "freed" to help the younger Raiden in the fight against Kronika.

When the time merger does happen, Danny presents himself before Kronika in the chamber that houses the Hourglass in her Keep, the Crown of Flames, and the Ring of Rage pulsing with power before the Titan who took everything from him.

"Kronika, you have become driven mad with creating the perfect timeline. So much so that my timeline was erased. But the Keeper before you had saved me from being erased with it. And now, I am here to aid in your downfall by the hands of one of your enemies you have brought with the time merger"

More thoughts on aroace Goku/the autistic Son family (+ headcanons and postcanon ideas)

I have always read Goku as somewhere on the aroace spectrum, especially during the early series.

(Thoughts/Goku-based thesis under cut)

In early Dragon Ball, Goku often has to have social concepts such as sex, gender, romance, etc., explained to him. This, of course, is related to the running joke that he's sheltered and has no comprehension of things which are second nature to most people.

He's 12 here, around the age where media often portrays young people as developing feelings of attraction. Though his lack of interest may be portrayed as due to his isolation, that really wouldn't have that much bearing on experiencing romantic interest when he explores the rest of the world. Toriyama consistently choosing to write Goku like this seems to say something more about him than just this running joke.

Then, of course, there's the (somewhat infamous) scene where Chi-Chi confronts Goku when they are both 18 or so and insists that he promised to marry her.

Goku is remarkably casual about agreeing to marry someone, especially as he didn't really know what it meant a few minutes ago. I really don't think this is intended to be taken too seriously -- it's largely a joke about how nonchalantly Goku treats things that are super important to most people, because he has other priorities than most people.

I don't think this is a reckless/stupid moment for Goku (or a predatory moment from Chi-Chi as I've unfortunately seen people say). He's young and doesn't understand social expectations very well and you know, he made a promise. It's perfectly reasonable to him.

Goku is now 18 and still exhibits the same cluelessness when it comes to romance, even though he has been around the world and met many people, including people his age.

This moment also makes me think a lot about my headcanons of both Goku and Chi-Chi (and the whole Son family) being autistic. Goku is so so autistic to me -- he largely exists outside of social expectations and is confused when they are imposed onto him, he is focused on one thing (mastering martial arts) to the point where other things seem unimportant to him, etc. On the other hand, Chi-Chi is also autistic but in the way of attempting to adhere strictly to social expectations because she wants to Fit In (#girlautism). This diverts from manga canon/Toriyama's writing, but in the anime filler about Goku and Chi-Chi's wedding there's a whole dumb bit where a character called Grandma Hakkake 'teaches' her how to be a good wife by making her clean her house.

It's so absurd that it makes me think about Chi-Chi rather desperately adhering to the social role of a Good Wife. When you consider this, it contextualises a lot of her characterisation. She is frustrated with Goku because he doesn't fulfill some socially-expected aspects of a Good Husband, such as earning the household's income, keeping Gohan in school, etc. She is frustrated because she has done her very very best to be a Good Wife and yet he doesn't seem to be trying at all.

This is NOT an attack on Goku in any capacity, I don't think he's a bad husband or father at all. There is a difference, however, between Goku's personality and the social construction of a Good Husband.

I'm thinking about this post by @gokustits where @dbfandom breaks down this rather infamous panel from the original Japanese (I highly encourage reading and interacting with the post because it's excellent).

@dbfandom: The first bubble is her scolding Goku for being an absentee father, but it's through the societal lense. She's saying he's a bad father (by societal norms: aka a "provider"), but not a bad "dad", and she's angry about the year and a half in which Goku was absent but could have not been (due to the wish to Porunga to be brought back that Goku refused!)

The difficulties in their marriage largely come from this miscommunication, where Chi-Chi assumes that Goku knows these societal norms because they're societal norms, but of course he doesn't. This isn't really either of their faults, especially as they got married at 18 (!!!). It's more tragic than anything to me.

Their early relationship feels kind of like 'playing house' to me. Chi-Chi has a very specific idea of marriage and Goku goes along with it. I do think they're happy, especially before the Saiyan Saga starts, but it feels less related to the social expectations and more in spite of them. They develop a relationship and enjoy spending time together, fall in love in some capacity for sure, but when Goku is pulled in other directions that relationship is strained.

This is going more into the realm of reading between the lines/headcanon, but my interpretation of Goku's feelings for Chi-Chi are really just that he enjoys spending time with her and doesn't mind what form it takes. I view him as a sex-neutral ace (he doesn't care much either way).

I don't think there's any doubt that Goku loves Chi-Chi as their relationship ends up.

While Chi-Chi's initial feelings for Goku definitely seem like she convinces herself that she has them because she's betrothed to him, I also think she develops very real feelings for him. I read her as a little aroace-spec too, though I think she specifically enjoys romance as compared to other ways of being with someone more than Goku.

Anyway! Onto the kids!

Gohan is actually the only one of the Son family I read as totally allo, lmao. Well, there's really not much evidence either way, but his romance with Videl feels fairly natural to me. If anything, they have more obstacles to their relationship than pressures.

(Except that one weird moment where Chi-Chi is excited that the girl Gohan likes is rich, but I personally don't think that influences him too much.)

I do really think Gohan and Videl is just one of these rarer cases where people fall in love in high school and get married young but end up with a pretty healthy relationship.

(It happens. I started dating my partner of 8 years in early high school lmfao, though we do certainly have some aroace-spec shenanigans going on)

Not to say they're completely untouched by social expectations and all. Being in a heterosexual marriage certainly comes with plenty of that. Gohan getting married young like his parents does also play on my mind. Even if he wasn't pressured into it, society certainly doesn't object to anything he does.

As for Videl, she is also very allo to me with her initial crush on Gohan. I like a lot of their early relationship which is built on training together.

(This only makes Super even more frustrating with how they completely strip Videl of her personality and what made this relationship interesting.)

I also read Gohan as autistic, though he's better at masking than Goku. He also sometimes struggles socially (though this may also be part to his isolated upbringing) and has special interests (entomology in Super, of course, but also martial arts just like Goku -- I'm sure he has complex feelings about this considering his trauma but also his earnest love for it in less high-stakes situations i.e. Saiyaman).

Okay! Finally nearing the end, onto Goten (and a bunch of my headcanons)!

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, I love Goten. I love the energy that he and Trunks bring the Buu Saga and their fun, childish outlooks.

I read Goten as autistic too ("no way, tumblr user autisticgoten"). Alongside some of his characterisation which feels very inspired by young Goku's, his friendship with Trunks also makes me think of this.

Often, Trunks is the instigator, proposing schemes for Goten to join in on. This may be explained by Trunks being the older and more confident kid, but I also like reading this as Goten being Autistic in the way that he really wants to fill the role of Trunks' friend well.

As for queer stuff, well...

We only have brief appearance of teen Goten as written by Toriyama, in the DBZ epilogue.

It's fairly brief and the most insightful thing, really, is that he mentions he's going on a date, which means he's interested in romance in some capacity.

Honestly, any conclusions drawn from that alone would be pretty narrow (I'm not analysing GT or Super in this particular post).

So... now for headcanons and my personal ideas!! Everything from here is from my own writing of post-canon DB, so fair warning if you're only interested in the analysis.

I really, really like teen Goten being bisexual and aroace-spec.

Goten is the first one in his family to actually identify as queer. This brings up a whole BUNCH of feelings when he comes out. Goku wouldn't care at all, of course. Chi-Chi definitely isn't intolerant but has some traditional ideas. Her entire marriage is built on heterosexual gender roles. She has a lot of talks with her son which lead her to consider a lot of things differently.

Goku never identifies as aroace because that doesn't matter to him but the idea helps him understand that the way he sees romance may not be the same for everyone. He and Chi-Chi talk a bit and while I think their relationship is definitely better after the Buu Saga in general due to their age and a lack of stressors, this really helps them come to terms with the unexamined issues in their relationship and how they've always had different expectations.

(Young queer people helping their older relatives understand things about themselves is so, so important to me and I just want to see it more. On a personal level, my sister and me coming out helped my mum realise she's bisexual.)

Anyway, my interpretation of teen Goten does flirt around a lot but he rarely has serious relationships and the people he dates always just end up as friends. This is because he's aroace-spec, and also because he can't conceive of anyone in his life being more important than Trunks.

In the end, as an adult he has a semi-romantic bestfriendship-based queerplatonic-y thing with Trunks. No particular labels. They just live together and are in multiple kinds of love!

(I hc Trunks as a trans man and gay but I will not go into that today because I will never shut up)

I think Gohan is definitely the first person Goten comes out to, though. After Gohan moves out, Goten has a habit of just appearing on his roof to talk with him, and this happens during one such talk.

And, to circle back to the Autism! During one of these talks, Gohan also tells Goten that he's been doing a lot of introspection/research and thinks he's autistic (and their dad is likely autistic...). And so the family are able to put a name on that certain thing that seems to set them apart from others.

(Last personal anecdote: I got my autism diagnosis right around the time my dad started to realise he is autistic too, as runs in his side of the family.)

Anyway! I could go on and on but this headcanons segment is already too long so I'll save it for other posts.

An Azula x gn reader again. So, Azula and reader are childhood friends, and reader is the exact opposite of her. They are kind, compassionate and believe in the good of people. And that belief is the only thing that kept reader from deserting Azula even when she turned more cruel over time; they hope that Azula will find her good side some time. Azula is very dependant on reader's friendship as it's one of the only ones she's got, and over time she has developed some more serious feelings, but she doesn't tell reader. However, at one point, probably after a battle, it's enough. Reader can't take Azula's cruelty anymore and, under tears, tell Azula how much they detest her cruelty and want her to change her ways and that they know she has good inside of her, because (drumroll) they have loved her for years but think they will have to leave her once and for all if she can't change. Of course, Azula is devastated. She is happy her feelings are mutual but still, there is drama because of reader's accusations and threat of leaving.

Again, a happy end would be phenomenal.

She pushed Ty lee when she did an amazing cartwheel instead of her. She almost set Mai on fire for Zuko to save her. You noticed but brushed them off because she wasn’t so bad. But she’ll get better you hoped.

You also noticed that she never was that mean to you. Sure she’ll give you attitude and make snarky comments at you but you definitely got special treatment among the others. You remember having that conversation with her when you were little.

“[Name], promise you’ll never leave my side? I feel that you’re the only one that understands me.” Azula grinned as she looked at her used to be innocent face.

Your little self smiled widely and nod. “I promise Azula I’ll never leave your side!”

So…you never left her side which meant you saw what she had done. When she tricked her uncle and her brother. Almost burning Ty lee alive and forcing her to join her team. Making Mai abandon her baby brother. Even more things which involved her trying to catch the Avatar. But you stood by it all still thinking “She’s going to be good.”

You even thought that when she burned down innocent peoples villages. You saw how miserable the nations had been because of her doings. Not only the nations but Mai and Ty lee were as well. You can tell by the looks of their eyes, they don’t want to do this. They were so scared to stand up to her. You wanted the Avatar to restore the peace between nations and maybe Azula would be better.

One day, at the boiling rock Mai betrayed Azula by saving Zuko. You watched whole scene unfold with Ty lee. Before the two were about to fight each other, Ty lee chi blocked Azula making her fall. Ty lee looked at you, “Come on [Name].” She stuck her hand out as you hesitated and looked at Azula at the floor . You called the guards over to take both Mai and Ty lee away. The two girl were shocked as you chose Azula over your freedom. You helped up Azula since she was still paralyzed. You looked at as she smiled at you. “I know you’ll pick the right choice” hee eyes were filled with love for you and you had it too. She made the guards take Mai and Ty lee away to be in prison.

You thought about how she was ready to kill Mai and make her two best friends rot in the cell. You and Azula come back from trying to catch Aang as it failed but in the process, Azula had hurt other people, you saw children hurt and crying. You saw their parents crying as well or they were deceased from her ordering the soldiers to get information from them and if they didn’t comply well…

Your head was pounding and your hands were shaking you don’t know what to do. You were holding back from crying. Azula still mad about Mai and Ty lee but having you by her side was everything she needed anyway. You two were back at the palace as you finally spoke up…

“Azula I-i can’t do this…” you muttered out. Azula turned to you.

“What?!” She shouts and confused.

“I can’t do this. I’m can’t be by your side. T-this is too much…” you looked down.

“What are you talking about your staying with me! You promised me you’ll always be by my side [Name]! Why are you doing this?! You’re going to be a traitor just like them huh?” Azula was angry you can tell but then stunned seeing you crying and glaring at her.

“I’m done Azula. I did promise but I saw the good in you. I thought everyday that you’ll change into a good person. But seeing you doing these horrific things… it’s awful but I still stayed because I loved you for years. I-I still love you but I can’t if you’re going to be like this. T-this is just cruel…I’m sorry if you can’t change…I don’t think I wanna be by your side ever again.” You saw her panting hard trying to take all this in. She couldn’t believe you loved her and she never noticed. She gritted her teeth about to attack you but she hesitated. Her love for you was too much to hurt you. She just mumbled “Get out! Get out!” You were stunned as she told you get out. You nod as you left. The woman you loved pushed you away you know she didn’t mean it but you needed to do what you said…you knew it was the right thing to do.

You were nearby where Azula’s coronation was being held you saw how horrible she looked. Her hair cut uneven and her makeup smeared a little. You couldn’t help feel guilty about you making her crazy. You then saw the fight with Zuko and Katara with Azula. You saw Azula getting defeated by Katara as you saw her balling as blue fire came out of her mouth. You couldn’t hold back anymore you ran fast to Azula as Zuko and Katara watched you. You hugged her. “Azula please…” you whispered into her ear as you felt her body all hot as she was surprised you were here.

“[N-name]…Please [Name] don’t leave me! I’ll change! I’ll change for you! I love you too! Please just don’t leave my side! I’m sorry” She said between sobs as she just cried harder and clung on to your clothing tight. She didn’t want you to let go. “I promise Azula I won’t leave you again. I’ll be there to help you.” You whisper as cupped the back of her head to make her let it all out. Azula then spoke into your shoulder. “I’ll be good. I have you. Because all the drama with Lois, Clark ends up developing a much stricter but more flexible practice with concealing his secret identity from the rest of the Daily Planet. This mostly boils down to "Don't gaslight people" and "Just maintain that Superman doesn't have a secret identity and 99% of the time you can just gently nudge people to their own conclusions with regards to you." But he has like, one vice with regards to secret identity shenanigans and that's fucking with Steve Lombard whenever he gets asked what his workout routine is. Steve has been asking for years and Clark has never given him the same answer.

"Just the expert-recommended 150 minutes of mild aerobic activity and/or 70 minutes of intense aerobic activity a week!"

"You know that group of seniors who do Tai Chi in the park?"

This series is very low budget and the actors are a bit green (this series was the first for both of them), but they have good chemistry and the story is very cute. I wish I had better words to describe it but I don't. This series is just darn cute. Recommended!

It all starts with a misunderstanding where Chi Lie thinks that Gao Zeshu wrote him a love letter. Chi Lie starts developing feelings for Zeshu though he would never admit it to himself and hijinks ensue as they grow closer.

There's a running gag where all of Chi Lie's friends call Zeshu 大嫂 (sister-in-law). The subber used brother-in-law in the early episodes, but 大嫂 is what you call your older brother's wife. Chi Lie's besties are the captains of the Zeshu/Chi Lie ship. I love how they always make comments about them dating and Zeshu and Chi Lie just roll with it.

So much so that Zeshu also starts calling himself 大嫂. 😂 I can't believe they went there with the husband thing. Chi Lie clearly likes it though he pretends not to.

Apparently there was a kiss on the lips that got cut according to Yang Pengcheng (Chi Lie's actor). Argh! Someone please leak it on YT or bili or something. I want to see it even if it's dead fish. 😄

Reading the original screenplay of challengers is very interesting because it so fun to see how ideas develop or change with time,or how adding some dialogue or the way some scenes are acted can change completely the meaning of one scene. Especially all that is related to Patrick/Art dynamic. There are some changes that may be arent thay impactful but also can be fun to notice.

Also very interesting how there is no mention of babysitter or grandma caring for lily in the screenplay,and It seems watching movies is a plan they did many times and she even told Patrick about wanting to leave because she had a plan of watching frozen with Lily. Or how she is the one going with her to swim. In the screenplay Tashi began to smoke after the injury but she stopped when she became pregnant. Tashi is obviously in the original screenplay and the movie the one that is closer to lily,and Lily is always searching for her,not Art

Now in the movie Zendaya had interviews about how was important for people to watch Tashi's as a mother to see her tender's side. And in the movie we see Tashi being soft and tender many times and with some people especially Lily,this is also a woman that described tennis as being in a relationship and in love,had a friendship bracelet of her daughter's name,had her daughter in her lock screen saver ,is wearing the same cross necklace all her life(is she religious or is was just a family's gift ?),but she couldn't be sentimental or soft at all?. even as teenager when she was so driven towards tennis, she is an average teenager that dances and goes to parties ,listens to her parents,goes to beyonce concerts ,has boyfriends,goes to university,reads twilight.

But it's so interesting too how Tashi is reduced to this character that doesn't care about her daughter at all or doesnt want her at all and only care for tennis and nothing and nobody else. People forget that Art and Tashi are working,we just see them in business trips during Us open series season that must be their priority in Art's career. Obviously this isn't the ideal environment for a child to be raised but this is a something that all elite tennis players must face with their lifestyle,it isn't something just about Tashi's personality or a sign that they didn't want Lily at all. That is why I always say even if Lily was an accident ,the decision to have her must have been huge. Like we can analyze how the daughter being barely in the movie could be a symbol of how Art's and Tashi 's career and the lifestyle of an elite tennis player can affect other aspects of Tashi and Art's life like their child and the mistakes they are committing without being that extreme .

The touch of the grand ma is so interesting because obviously they would need help,they are working and traveling with a child, it also shows how Tashi is so close with her family, something we didn't see with Patrick and Art,they were all with her watching her match in the junior finals ,in the adidas party,where was Art and Patrick's family while they were traveling alone as teenagers?Tashi has a supportive family that is always helping and supporting her,a family that was a big reason to be so ambitious and driven to be successful because they sacrificed a lot for her to have a career because she is a black child without a rich background,she was also doing this to bring economic security to her family. That is why I don't understand why there are people that cant believe Tashi can take the decision to have a child,the only way is theories of Tashi having a child to easily control Art(?!!),or Art forcing her or baby-trapping her ,is this Challengers or Handmaid's tale? There is a difference in teenager Art being a snake and believing that Tashi and Patrick's long distance relationship wouldnt work or that their relationship wasnt serious or that Patrick wouldnt love her like him but another thing is forcing or manipulating your wife to have a child. That is another level of evilness.

But What in the movie is telling that Tashi's personality is a woman that would never ever ever can decide or want to have a child by herself at all? When did she tell us being a mother was never a possibility for her at all? Where the movie show us she doesn't enjoy motherhood or isn't good with children at all?She could be an ambitious,strong,driven woman that loved and was dedicated to her craft and that was a raised in a loving and supportive family and still decide to have a child without her husband forcing her.

I know that with a movie as challengers people can have many interpretations,but why everything has to be so extreme ?Like I can see analyzing if she was still a tennis player she won't have a child so young,but where this idea came from that she would never have a child or was complete misserable when she was pregnant and resented Art for it?. It seems people don't analyze Tashi with nuance or with complexity,or she becomes a villain or a complete victim to find explanations to decisions that she took they don't agree based on a image they have created of her that isn't really in the movie or they just want her to be a stereotype or unidimensional.

Bi Han’s irony and pain

So I was doing some research for my mortal kombat au when I came across Bi Han tower ending from the first game.

This stuck out as a little weird to me because well… retiring? From the Lin Kuei? The clan who kills people without remorse? Who are willing to kidnap children to recruit to their ranks? Who will sacrifice their members to create cyborgs. Who are willing to team up with know threats to Outworld? Yeah, if anything I think it more likely Bi Han was going to run away from the Lin kuei and you live off the money he got from the kill. But then that got me thinking… since is from first timeline, he was born in America and raised there with his mother right? What if he was specifically trying to run away to America to find his mom. Okay yes I know that probably not what they intended but ,at least for me it makes sense. We’ve already other timeline Bi Han’s having high reverence for their mothers.

What to say original timeline Bi Han the same. But that got thinking on how that might explain Bi Han actions. Again hear me out. We know Bi Han tends to be more hotheaded and aggressive than his younger brother. But what if the reason for that isn’t arrogance or bloodlust but anger at the Lin kuei itself. Imagine your just living your life as a normal child when all of a sudden you’re kidnapped but some strange people to work for them, forced into hard training regime your body isn’t used too and forced to commit horrific acts at such a young age. We don’t know how old Bi Han was when he was taken but we do know he was a kid when it happened so his mind and sense of self were still developing and he had some time to live a normal life before he was taken. His stubbornness and hotheaded nature were a result of him angry at the Lin kuei for taking what essentially his life away. And maybe his more aggressive ways could be due to trauma caused by the Lin kuei, damaging his mental state. This might also explain Kuai Liang as well. We don’t know how old he was when he was kidnapped but what if he was only a baby when it happened. He wouldn’t have know any other life other than the Lin Kuei. The harsh training and killing wouldn’t affect him as much because in his mind it this was normal. He wouldn’t have a reason to be more angry or aggressive because to him this was fine. Heck who knows maybe while Bi Han may have become more aggressive he could’ve taught his brother about morality to ensure his brother didn’t go down as much of a violent path as the rest of the Lin kuei. Maybe this is why he spared Sareena, not just because of mercy specifically but because he saw another soul who was forced into a life they didn’t want and he was felt bad for her and wanted to give her a chance. But honestly the thing that stuck out the most was the complete irony of his situation later on his life. This is a version of sub zero who constantly fought for his freedom, yet when it was in his grasp, he was killed. And when he entered the Netherrealm, even there he wasn’t freed as he was then made into a servant of Shao Kahn and Quan Chi . Maybe that why he hates his brother in that timeline. Kuai Liang escaped the Lin Kuei, he was free yet he went back to the Lin kuei he wasted his chance which Bi Han in his alter state despises. Or maybe he was envious of the time Kuai was free, feeling that it should have been him. Maybe he tried to take over the Lin kuei to destroy it or build it into something else so no one else would feel the pain he felt. I know all of this seems illogical and stupid and it probably wasn’t what Netherrealm had intended but I can’t help think what could’ve have been, something that could’ve made Bi Han more interesting. But nope now we got a Bi Han Lin kuei extremist who just completely evil and not broken. But hey the noob sailboat trailer gave some interesting hints, which could redeem his character. But then then again, we’ll have to wait and see.

One of your first points is that sorcery and spellcraft *can* be goal oriented, but that the practice itself would be fulfilling on its own. That really resonated with me, and I'm actually more interested in that *kind* of practice. Imagine me as someone who wants to learn magic the same way someone might want to learn Tai-chi *not* as a means of self defense, but instead as someone who wants a slow, meditative experience, and any fighting prowess that might come about is a side effect, rather than the intent. How might I go about approaching magic or sorcery in this way? Is there such a path?

Anon, I think it's fun that you've arrived at a place I usually assume people arrive at later on, when they've accidentally built a practice they hate out of pursuit of practical utility, or because they did a bunch of stuff they thought they were supposed to do, and now the burdens of their own path are drowning them like a millstone around the proverbial neck of joy.

I think it's very nice to approach witchcraft from a place of doing it just because you enjoy it. It's refreshing, which might say something sad about the state of witchcraft affairs, but maybe I just tend to stare into dusty corners.

Check out that developing a daily practice post, which I think is in the spirit of results, but is a lot more focused on finding out how to integrate witchcraft into your lifestyle without crashing and burning, like a little fuzzy bird just ready to experience the joys of flight, but whom accidentally tied a rock to its foot, and the rock is called "daily offering and meditation schedule, energy work at 9 every day :) choose each outfit with intention! no excuses not to practice."

Apropos of drowning and falling metaphors, I think that if you cast your net you'll find a heck of a lot of theory available out there is about magical efficacy.

Things are done a certain way not because that's the most enjoyable way to do them, but because that's the most effective way the author has found to do them. That is, if you can find content relating to theory in the first place. A lot of people don't like to share why their work is the way it is, my best faith take being that it's a lot of work to write down, my worst faith take being that they don't know, they just read it somewhere.

So when getting into things and reading and researching, keep in mind that you're probably not going to see a lot of "do it because it feels good." Reading with a critical eye will probably be helpful and keep in mind that you are probably going to be walking a parallel track with its own twists and turns.

But anyway, what I really recommend for you is to find out why the steps are done that way, so that you can then adjust it to your liking without ruining the recipe.

But I think the only fish to catch with your net of inquiry is that start doing anything; see what you liked about it and what you didn't like, and re-work it until you do like it.

And keep in mind, when most anyone recommends some kind of training regimen, they are meaning witchcraft in the self-defense way. Not in the meditative experience way. Although ironically, they will almost definitely recommend meditation.
