Introducing my super cool RWBY rewrite that is definitely better than literally anything
Hey guys, this is my RWBY fanfiction universe. All ideas are mine, I just think... I dunno, RWBY kinda sucks so I'm making my own, better version. I'll call it... RWBY: Rescued or some other vaguely pretentious title, idk. Hey, John and Jane RWBYson! Thanks for subscribing to my project! Or anonymously stalking it? It's hard to tell sometimes.
Now I know I already introduced Team RWBY, and everyone loves them, I'm happy! I'm just gonna add a little dude here, no it's fine! He's like a side character, nothing more. Like an ally, Ruby's first friend, he leads the other team, it'll be really cool I promise. His name is Jaune btw, no, NO big deal. Just trust me on this. I'm the superior writer, remember?
...
Um... sorry guys. Over the weekend I just got a really big spark of inspiration, like... the Muses struck me from the heavens above. So I'm sorry, but... I'm going to make a quarter of the first Volume entirely focused on Jaune, the Volume that is crucially formative to the cast and entire series, which will cause a ripple effect so bad that a consistently large number of fans dislike him in my series 10 years later, but also find it hard to imagine the story without him at this point, like a lukewarm relationship you don't know how to feel about.
But it's fine! The show is still called RWBY and I plan to deliver on that, not like those hacks at Rooster Teeth stepping on Monty's vision. That's the rhetoric I'm supposed to use, right? To make you hate me? To make me into an easy strawman to hate and dismiss? GOT IT, just making sure, lol
I'm going to voice act as him too, btw. No big deal, I'm sure this won't affect my treatment of him whatsoever. Oh, but here's Neptune. He's voiced by the other dude writing this, and we're gonna write a love triangle between the characters we voice and Weiss, one of the main leads. That counts as a character arc for her, right? Right, glad you understand. Oh, Neptune? You actually liked him and wanted him around? What are you, fucking sexist? God. Make sure to tell your friends how cool my story is
Next, I'm going to have Pyrrha's entire screentime devoted around Jaune, and even after she dies, only Jaune is allowed to process his emotions regarding her death while Ren, an Asian dude, and Nora, another girl, prop him up. I'm also going to bring her death up every two years like 2-3 times to really milk that man pain. What does Ruby the main character feel about this? Oh don't worry, she'll talk about it with another character I'll add in. I'll even have her say Keep Moving Forward™ to really sell the audience's Ruby's pain and really stoke and stir your anguish. Her anguish. Moving on.
Eh, something feels off, there's not enough conflict... Let's have Cinder run Weiss through with a spear, for funsies ig, because I have this post-it note on my monitor saying Jaune's Semblance and this is the perfect moment. I'm also gonna give Jaune this whole ass emotional outburst, 1-on-1 fight and confrontation with Cinder since she killed Pyrrha and awakened all his angst.
Ruby? Uh... yeah, she can stand there I guess. I need to remind the goddamn audience that YES, I still remember silver eyes exist, gawd. I have to do it every few Volumes or I can sometimes forget the protagonist in my female-led story exists - man what a pain, I bet I'm gonna be pressured into creating an old lady to teach her or some shit in the Volume right after this one. Whatever, I'll have her disappear in 2 years, they'll never know she left. Anyway OOPS Emerald knocked Ruby out, thank god she's out of the way so I can squeeze in a shot of Cinder stepping on Jaune and really rub that pain in. God, Jaune really needed this, so glad I did that
Fuck it, Jaune kills Penny too. I dunno, it just feels right, y'know? Nah... I don't think Ruby or anyone is the right person for this, and I don't think we've really, one hundred percent explored just how deeply Jaune can angst over dead women; women who could have grown into full, complex people with rich arcs and relationships using all the screentime I parasitically extracted from them via sudden, unwarranted death. Penny, like, she really needs to fuckin' die for this. Her death is worth having to retread this same tired fucking emotional arc if it's for my boy, know what I'm sayin'? Good, glad you understand
Alright, it's the Volume finale. Team RWBY and Neo are falling into the next story arc. Great, people really wanted this - an entire Volume just focused on the title characters together. The fans have been on my ass asking for this since Volume fucking Four. It's alright, I GOT THIS. I FUCKING GOT THIS! It's simple! This is perfect. But... I mean, I shouldn't... but I really... SDGDSGDED FUCK IT, fuck you, Jaune falls in with them too
John and Jane RWBYson: "God, this is why I hate rewriters who think they can write a good story with RWBY. They love making white men the focus of their self insert fantasies while shoving female characters into the fridge and off to the side, all while using Monty's name to rile people into brainlessly supporting it. I hope they fucking disappear"
Wait. John. Jane. Did I say my RWBY fanfiction universe?
Oh. Oh god.

Ruby: I'm back! I hope you weren't waiting too long.
Weiss: (Tied up) Why are you helping me?
Ruby: Because I need you so I can become the Red Huntress!
Weiss: The Red Huntress?! Do you even know what you're saying?!
Ruby: The Red Huntress is the Red Huntress. What else could it mean? (Holds out Myrtenaster) I found your sword, but I couldn't figure out which dust you used, so I grabbed them all.
Weiss: I use them all. I'm a multi-dust fighter.
Ruby: Well, then I'll give them to you, on the condition that you and me become partners. Killed by the White Fang, or joining me?
Weiss: You're a worse businessman than my father. Fine, I'll come with you, but only so I can become the Queen of Dust.
Ruby: Yay! I got my first team member! And the Queen of Dust, too!
Weiss: Will you cut me down, you idiot?!
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: I guess I'll be seeing you around.
Ruby: Huh? What do you mean?
Jaune: Well, if you're going to be a Huntress, then that means I'll be a Huntsman. We'll see each other on the road, right?
Weiss: What are you talking about? Hurry up and come over already.
Jaune: Wait, what?
Ruby: We're teammates now, right?
Jaune: (Chuckles, Laughs) I call dibs on being team leader!
Ruby: No way! That's my job!
---------------------------------------------------
Yang: Hold it. (Ruby stops) If you're going out there alone, then you're going to need my help. And if I want to find my mom and get answers from her, then I should join you, right? I'm your teammate, after all. Unless, of course, you've got a problem with that?
Ruby: No way! If my sister is joining me, then we'll be unstoppable!
---------------------------------------------------
Yang: Wait, we can't leave without Blake!
Weiss: Why not? She obviously isn't coming.
Yang: What did you say, Ice Queen? I bet you made another remark about the White Fang to her, didn't you?!
Weiss: Why would I do that?
Jaune: It does make sense, though. She got what she wanted from us, so she'll probably be happier here.
Yang: What about my happiness?! (Looks to Ruby) If Blake isn't on our team, then I quit!
Ruby: Hey! You stole my game last night, didn't you!
Ilia: Where's Blake?
Ghira: I guess she chose not to go with them. She probably chose the New Fang over her friends.
Kali: Oh, there she is!
Blake: (Pants, Deeply inhales) RAISE THE ANCHOR! SET SAIL! (Runs through the crowd)
Ruby: ...Well, let's get to it.
Yang: (Pulls up the anchor)
Weiss: (Starts the engine)
Jaune: Hey, is it really okay for us to leave like this?
Ruby: This is what she wanted, so why not?
Ghira: Blake, as your father and as the island chieftain, I refuse to allow you to leave like- (Blake leaps over him) this?!
Blake: (Leaps off the dock and lands on the shup, Pants)
Ilia: She's crazy!
Kali: Yes, she is.
Blake: (Lifts her shirt, Jewelry and watches fall onto the deck) Thanks for everything, everyone!
Ghira: YOU LITTLE THIEF! YOU BETTER BE READY FOR THE BIGGEST BEAR HUG OF YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU GET BACK!
Kali: Visit again soon, sweetie!
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Oh, it's you! Come on! Let's go see the world!
Oscar: I'm afraid I can't.
Ruby: Sure you can! It'll be fun!
Jaune: Ruby, I don't think that's what he means.
Oscar: But... I'm cursed! Sooner or later, Ozma will take over my conciousness, and I won't be the Oscar you know anymore! I... I do want to see the world and help more people, but... I'm not even real! I shouldn't exist! So we can't be friends! I... I'm glad I met all of you, and I'm grateful you helped us out. I can't go with you, but if you need help, you can always stop by aga-
Ruby: Shut up! Let's go!
Weiss: (Sighs) You don't ask people to join by telling them to shut up.
Oscar: (Sobs in joy)
---------------------------------------------------
Emerald: I hope you haven't forgotten what you did to me, Ruby Rose.
Yang: Geez, what'd you do to her, Rubes?
Jaune: (Megaphone) Please vacate the premises immediately! If you do not comply, we will contact the government!
Ruby: What are you talking about? I didn't do anything!
Emerald: Yes, you did, and what you did was unbearable. I expect you to take full responsibility.
Yang: Ruby!
Ruby: What do you want me to do?
Emerald: Simple. Let me join your team.
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Come on, Nora! Join our team!
Nora: Pssh! Don't get so full of yourself! You guys only got this far on pure luck. It'd be a shame if something happened to all my hard work. So I, Nora Valkyrie, have choice but to join your team!
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: That girl you met a long time ago, (Points to Nora) that's her right there.
Ren: Really? (Ruby nods, Sniffles) I'm... I'm so happy... (Sobs)
Ruby: Hey, you gonna be okay?
Ren: (Stops sobbing, Straight-face) Yes. By the way, can I join your team?
Ruby: Sure!
Jaune: WHAT?!
Yang: JUST LIKE THAT?!
Oscar: HE JOINED?!
Nora: YAY!
Emerald: (Chuckles, Rolls her eyes)
---------------------------------------------------
Qrow: Thank you for everything, but it's time for me to go.
Ironwood: You have some nerve, you know that?
Qrow: This is my formal resignation. (Sets down his uniform) I'm leaving Atlas to join my niece's huntsman team.

Hello, how about a scenario with Mama Arc going to visit her son in Beacon, Jaune is happy to see his mother.
Meanwhile the entire Beacon staff is in a panic, because in Ozpin's words, he doesn't want to have to deal with that monster.
(You actually just handed me a way to introduce my version of Mama Arc. For this I thank you.)
---
Pyrrha: Jaune?
Jaune: Yeah?
Pyrrha: Is that woman currently holding the Headmaster in an Armlock your mother?
Jaune: Yup, she did mention something about "Opening a can of whoop ass on the man who threw me into a forest."
Nora: Was she also the one who basically beat the snot out of the faculty members that rushed her when she got off the Bullhead?
Jaune: The very same.
Ren: Why though?
Jaune shrugged.
Jaune: Something about a Bounty on her I guess, she used to tell me about how she used to run a gang after dropping out of Beacon.
Pyrrha: Your mom was a student and has an active bounty on her?
Jaune: I guess, my dad was the one who claimed it after he got her pregnant. Dad says it was a "Enemies to Lovers" type thing. Although my mom says it was because he was better looking and actually worth a fight than her own gang lackeys were, plus he promised that if she beat him he would do anything she wanted. You know, Arc's word?
Ren: That's rather concerning.
Pyrrha: But very interesting.
Nora: What's her name anyways?
Jaune: Oh, it's Lachaira. Grandma said something about it meaning Steel in a different language.
Nora: Cool!
The group continue to watch as Jaune's mom is tackled by a faculty member she had knocked out previously.
Pyrrha: Should we help out?
They watched as the shorter woman shoved the larger man off of her and delivered several rapid punches the man face. The last one proved effective as the hook she sent made the man's head jerk violently before dropping to the ground with a thud.
Nora: It looks like she's winning.
The Headmaster was still in the floor as Lachaira made her way to him, the group thought they heard the man make a plea before she put him into an impressive arm bar.
Ren: I don't think an arm is meant to bend that way.
There a snap that echoed from Ozpin followed by a loud yell. The group winced when they heard it.
Nora: Hey Jaune?
Jaune: Yes Nora?
Nora: Is your mom single?
Jaune, Pyrrha and Ren looked at Nora in confusion and surprise. They then saw Jaune's mom pick up and dust herself off before walking towards them with a small limp, several scratches and a few bruises.
---
Lachaira Arc. Tanned skin and standing at a proud 5'5" with, in Nora's words, a body that looked like she lifted Ursa on a daily and punched boulders for fun. Her black hair was showing the faintest of silver and braided into a low ponytail. Dressed in a simple white shirt that was now dusted with dirt, tucked into a pair of black fitted pants with leather chaps over them and wearing a pair of sturdy black steel toe boots. She had finished using a small towel to wipe the dirt off her face to show the slight tomboyish looking face she had. Of course what struck out the most was the pair of blue eyes that were the same color, if not darker than Jaune's.
Lachaira: So I take it you kiddos enjoyed the show back there?
She grinned and showed off her oddly pointed set of teeth.
Nora: You bet Mama Arc, cool teeth by the way!
Ren: Pardon me for asking, but are you a faunus?
Lachaira chuckled.
Lachaira: Let me guess, was it my perfect skin or alluring curves that gave it away? But yeah, I'm a Faunus.
She narrowed her eyes.
Lachaira: That isn't going to be a problem is it?
Ren raised his hands.
Ren: Not at all, just curious was all.
Nora: What kind are you?
Lachaira raised a brow.
Lachaira: Curious one's aren't ya, well I'm a Honey Badger, besides the teeth I also have the tenacity of one, or at least that what my folks say.
Jaune walked back into he dorm room with a glass of water.
Jaune: Here you go mom, couldn't find any soda so I hope this is okay.
His mom cooed at him and stood up.
Lachaira: Aw, my poor little Knight is worried about his mama.
She grabbed him a bear hug as his team heard the various pops of his spine.
Lachaira: I'm so glad I was able to raise such a sweet boy like you.
Jaune however struggled for breath.
Jaune: Thanks mom... Love you too... Please let go?
She gave a 'oops' and let Jaune go as he greatly sucked in his breath.
Pyrrha: Ma'am if it's okay to ask, why did you beat up our Headmaster?
The Arc Mother shrugged.
Lachaira: I gave my word that I would open a can of whoop ass on the man who threw my son into a forest.
Before Pyrrha could ask she felt Lachaira's hands on her face as she stared deeply into her eyes. The Spartan began to blush slightly as he face drew closer and closer before stopping a few inches.
Lachaira: Huh, you're right kiddo, her eyes would make even Emeralds envious.
Jaune: Mom! I thought you promised you weren't gonna say anything from the letters!
Now the Spartan let out a full blown blush while his mom laughed.
Lachaira: Sorry sweetie by I had my fingers crossed. Now then.
She let go of Pyrrha's face and looked towards Ren and Nora.
Lachaira: Which one is the bubbly bomber and which is the pretty boy?
Nora and Ren only gulped as Jaune covered his face in despair and embarrassment.
---
In the Beacon Medical Ward
Several of the Faculty members now sat with casts and bandages on their bodies. Amongst them was the Headmaster himself in a full body cast now as his sipped at his coffee with a long straw.
The Deputy if Beacon did not looked amused as she read over a file on the very woman who did this
Goodwitch: Lachaira Arc, Honey Badger Faunus. Dropped out of Beacon, former leader of a gang formerly called Oso Heaven, had a bounty placed on her by the kingdom of Atlas, bounty collected by a man named Gregory Greene.
She turned the page and sighed.
Goodwitch: So it was James that had a new bounty placed on her the very day she arrived here, and by your request?
Ozpin stopped sipping and looked at Glynda.
Ozpin: When she was student she was the best of in her year, more than that she was able to single handedly take out three teams of trainees after an altercation involving her Faunus aspects. In her words she stold then, "You're a bunch of fucking pansies that deserve to get dicked down by an Ursa in heat." promptly broke a number of limbs of her opponents and causing an entire team to drop out as well due to the severity of their injuries, without any weapon besides her bare hands and teeth. She then handed in her form for leaving the school, flipped me the bird and took the last Bullhead that was leaving that day.
Glynda: But now?
Ozpin gave a breath.
Ozpin: She seems to be a mother to one our students and was simply here to visit. I was wrong to quickly assume she would cause havoc. No charges will be pressed either as it was our own fault for instigating a retaliation from her.
A man on one of the beds with bandages wrapped around his face spoke.
Steve: I said I was sorry!
Ozpin: Well sorry doesn't fix broken ribs now does it Steve!?
Glynda let out a sigh, silently thankful that she wasn't around for the initial confrontation.

July 31, 2021
(Sorry about the late response but Work happened. Anyways here she is Lachaira Arc! I always like the idea of Jaune's mom being some kind of Faunus, it's just skipped a generation, plus I just like a lady that can kick ass one moment but be all sweet the next.
Kinda like Quetzalcoatl from the Fate series.
Anyways, hope this was sufficient enough so have a great day and thanks for the ask!)

Interdimensional Moms pt3
Part 2 right here! <-
Team RWBY continue their interesting chat about their respective worlds. After the emotional roller coaster that was Weiss’s, a bit of light hearted stories would be welcomed.
Yang:Okay, does anyone have some real feel good things to talk about for their world? Just run of the mill pleasant life?
Ruby:Guess I’m going last....
Yang:Oh no!
Weiss:We’ll circle back to you then. Blake, I guess you’re up.
Blake:Wouldn’t you want calmer stuff at the end?
Yang:Blake, I would very much like to go at least ten minutes without wanting to cry.
Blake:Hmmmm I can guarantee you like...six I think.
Yang:I’ll take it! Blake Belladonna, tell me about a world where you and Jaune Arc are happily married. How did such stars align?
Blake:You make it sound crazy?
Weiss:Blake, there’s list of people I could see you with. Now I’m not saying Jaune couldn’t be one of them, but he’d have to fight his way up that list.
Blake:You...that’s kinda fair. It’s a bit hard to explain really. It happened back at Beacon initially, or our bonding did. Some days his team was busy and I didn’t tag along for the crazy antics you three wanted to do all the time, so we occasionally bumped into each by circumstances. He’d go to the library for a book, I’d do training and he was there, or sometimes he’d knock on our door and not realize I was the only one around.
Weiss:Was he trying to sing to me?
Blake:That plan did show up at our a few times, yes. One of those times I asked him out of nowhere to sing the song anyways because I just had to know if it was any good. Hehe, it wasn’t sonically pleasing at times, but you could tell it was genuine. Eventually though...he just sort of gave up on you. It was actually a little sad to see, even you thought so. It was strange. Jaune was definitely stumbling through his flirting and it came off as childish, yet the day he gave up, it was easy to see his heart was breaking a bit. Like all his insecurities ate even the faux confidence away.
Yang:Ma’am, it has barely been three minutes and I’m getting sad about thinking of Jaune being sad.
Weiss:Yeah don’t tell me I broke his heart!
Blake:Whoops, sorry. It’s important though. Jaune kinda kept to himself a little more after that. He still chatted pretty regularly but it was easy to tell he dived more in studies as a way to keep his head clear, which lead to us being on a project together. I was the only person in our friend group that wouldn’t actively try to make him open up about how he feeling. At first I thought it was a bit rude when he told me that, but I didn’t room to talk when it comes to socializing.
Yang:One more time for the people in the back.
Ruby:I’m the back.
Blake:*smirks* I was very against socializing about my feelings at Beacon.
Ruby:Yeah you were.
Weiss:I couldn’t even ask if you slept well without a lukewarm answer sometimes.
Blake:I’m better now. That’s all that matters. Romance and feeling love is a personal thing and talking about it is uncomfortable. I think we both recognized that in each other during our project. Trouble is, there’s only so many conversation starters and small talk subjects. Talking only about the project was dry and eventually all the facts a person could say about themselves ran out. Favorite food, color, hobbies, etc. We eventually had to dig a little deeper into those topics. To our surprise, we actually more in common than we thought when it came to how we felt about certain pieces of literature and music.
Ruby:Awwww, bonding over smut.
Blake:*red* It wasn’t all adult literature! Some were poems and stuff. Even when the project ended, we began being less formal around each other and hanging out. We went to the bookstores we mentioned and he even got us tickets to bands I liked. It...it was nice. I never really got to have just a normal teenage experience before without it being political. He always felt bad about being average compared to everyone but average was so foreign to me that I welcomed it. I liked having a normal time out. It was a thing we all took for granted. Especially when Beacon fell.
Yang:Yeah, that probably put a real bind on your relationship.
Blake:Actually....we technically never officially started to date.
Ruby:What? You courted each other all of Beacon.
Weiss:Ruby, who the heck says courted? I’m a Schnee and even I have never used the word courted.
Ruby:Hush, I read a lot of bed time stories to a five year old.
Blake:We were a bit shaky on labels. Me for obvious reasons. As for Jaune, it’s really true about what they say about guys when they get heart broken.
Yang: “Never again.”
Blake:Hehehe, it’s funny to look back at it but he’ll tell you it’s a bit cringy. He was so on gaurd. I could tell all the time when he was mentally telling himself to not be excited whenever we hung out or I complimented him.
Ruby:Hey it takes guts to shift feelings to a teammate of your first crush. That could blow up in your face.
Blake:Yeah...about that. *looks at Yang* you...were another reason why nothing was official. You uhhh, we actually had some jumbled up emotions.
Weiss:*sarcastic gasp* You and Yang, liking each other? Who could’ve seen that coming?
Yang:Was it mutual or...
Blake:Very mutual. Also...intimate at times.
Yang:*red* Oh....yeah. Yeah that tracks.
Blake:That jumbled mess was only more confusing after you got hurt trying to rescue me from Adam. Meeting up with-
Ruby:Question, so was Sun just not on your radar?
Blake:Sun? We’re just friends. He’s cute and I’m glad he was there for me when I needed help but things between us were always pretty calm. I think he noticed how confused I was with other people in my life and chose to not add to it.
Ruby:Bless him. Please continue.
Blake:Learning about Salem and reconnecting with you all was a lot. I’d really been out of the loop and my Yang and I were on....shaky ground.
Yang:That’s what happens when you leave someone who’s been left their entire life.
Blake:Sigh...yeah. It was a trying time, but not with JNPR. It’s funny, Oscar and I also hit it off quite well from the jump. I think we were both glad to have each other learn on the craziness at once. Even with readjusting, Jaune and I fell back into a groove naturally. Instead of doing average things we day dreamed of the things we did. Once again we become this little slice of simple life in this crazy adventure. Still didn’t date.
Weiss:What is this, a slow burn!?
Yang:Weiss, you literally didn’t date your Jaune until Atlas.
Weiss:There’s a difference. I didn’t make any heart eyes at him until around Atlas. I say I may have been a little quick. These two were “courting” for over a year at this point.
Ruby:Stop making fun of me!
Blake:Well anyways, I wouldn’t say much was too eventful in terms of romance with world destroying things happening. Salem, she was way too much to deal with. Every move age did was calculated and unrelenting. Keeping our head above water wasn’t easy. In fact, it was boarder line impossible. Yang and I barely beat Adam after all.
Yang:How’d you two feel about that?
Blake:Relieved. Huge weight off my mind, and yet...a piece of me still wishes things never got so dire. At least now I know that in another world, things aren’t.
Ruby:Sounds like your world was put through their paces? You survived though.
Blake:Not conventionally. I gotta say, hearing the ages and how you beat Salem so far makes me feel more than a little embarrassed. To be frank, we didn’t have this grand battle that involved the entire world making a final stand. We had Atlas, and then we had Haven. With their might and a plan to gain more time, we managed to seal Salem in a vault.
Yang:*chokes on water* Y- cough what!?
Ruby:You put her in a vault!?
Weiss:Thah sounds harder than a last stand honestly.
Blake:No matter what way we looked at things, we just weren’t ready for her, so we locked her away until we were. Two years on constant defense from her followers and grimm until Ruby had trained enough to use her silver eyes and we were all strong enough.
Ruby:Two years!? How old was I then?
Blake:Twenty I believe.
Weiss:Hey, you beat mine by a year.
Yang:Not mine, I think we either tied or just narrowly beat yours by like a year. Honestly it hard to keep track of birthdays and stuff.
Ruby:Wow. No offense to myself, but that’s a little disappointing. I guess being the same person really doesn’t mean we were all at the same level.
Blake:Hey, my Ruby put everything she had into saving the world. There wasn’t a second she wasn’t trying her best to defend it!
Ruby:My point exactly. If that was her at her absolute best then by all accounts, she doesn’t hold a candle to me; at least back then anyways. But I have no reason to believe she would be at my level now.
Yang:Okay little miss prideful, care to tell us when you saved the-
Ruby:Seventeen.
The reaper took a long swig of coffee while the others processed that information. It took a her a couple of seconds to realize she may be acting just a tad bit arrogant.
Ruby:Uhh, sorry. I think I was tooting my own horn a bit there.
Weiss:Seventeen....why so soon?
Yang:Why? Don’t you mean how?
Blake:That’s....almost unbelievable.
Ruby:Really? I don’t think so. I’ll dive into it when it’s my turn but for now all I really gotta say is people needed help, and I was going to answer those cries. I bet your Ruby had a similar urgency in her, but for some reason or another just had different limitations. I got hurt a lot as a kid. Maybe an injury did more damage in one universe than another? Who can say?
Blake:I...wouldn’t know. Odd, I know if my Ruby heard this, then she’d probably be more than a little upset. Saving lives is still what she’s all about. I know when she put everything she had into fighting Salem when the day came. All that training paid off. Her skills were polished and her silver eyes eradicated the grimm essence in Salem.
Ruby:Wait, she’s not dead?
Blake:No. Salem roams Remnant with Oz keeping an eye on her until one day she can finally grasp the lesson the gods wanted her to have.
Yang:That uhhh sounds risky.
Weiss:Yet oddly okay?
Blake:Funny, my Weiss said that too. Those two get checked on in secret. Can’t be too careful. With Salem beaten though, Remnant entered a state of...let’s call it average chaos. All in all, it’s way more peaceful but you know, people will be people. Downside about a secret war is you don’t get the unity of the masses. Atlas and Haven working together was still a great step in the right direction though.
Yang:Woah, I’m a little jealous. My world felt like a race against the clock. The pressure either broke you or made you harder than diamond, with most people crushing under it.
Weiss:Yeah. The tension and meet of extremes I had on the frontlines was beyond imagination. The unity was great, but to feel it on the battlefield against the odds was feeling with way too much adrenaline and stress. Can’t say I enjoyed it. I simply lived through it.
Blake:Well it isn’t like I had a walk in the park. But I guess in comparison, my experience was a tad more mellow. Still, people were lost and hurt. Oscar isn’t himself anymore, don’t have Penny, former classmates and a few enemies turned allies fell in battle. Family.... it took a bunch to get the plan of containing, then it took a lot more to do it. In a way though, the two years of training is time I can’t regret. It tested bonds, strengthening and reestablishing others.
Ruby:I take it since love couldn’t bloom on the battlefield, it bloomed in the training yards?
Blake:*red* You can say that. That’s when Jaune and I got serious. *frowning* But.....
Yang:We fell apart?
Blake:Yeah. I didn’t learn my lesson well enough the first time about the potential problems of dating a partner. Only difference this time was I felt like I was the one being cruel. We had gotten into arguments and apologized more than once. Your fear of being left and my own insecurities just kept butting heads. I’d cry, you’d cry, our friends would be concerned. Then the day came where you put it all on the line. You confessed genuinely how much you loved me and how you felt a bit jealous when it came to Jaune. I had never seen you look so vulnerable; letting your gaurd completely down. And though a piece of me loved you and wanted you in my life for ever....this sense of genuine comfort Jaune gave was something I want-needed for so long. So I did the one thing I didn’t want to do. I broke your heart. I hurt you again.
Yang:Sigh....*leans back in chair* Okay, let’s see how well I know myself. My eyes went red automatically, followed by tears. I lashed out at you angrily out of pain and embarrassment until I was probably blue in the face. But to take make things worse, somebody probably overheard. No matter who it was, I yelled at them too for trying to calm me down and then I eventually run off leaving everyone unhappy. A good old meltdown. Sound about right?
Blake:To the letter. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so distraught.
Yang:Of course not, I’ve never been in love before meeting you. I....did a similar thing with my Blake over the stupid Adam shit. *covers face* of all the things to be similar, it had to be my temper. Please tell me our team didn’t suffer too harshly?
Blake:The good thing about two years of training was it didn’t have to be together all the time. Team RWBY didn’t fall apart, but it didn’t feel comfortable either. Outside of missions, the four of us didn’t hang out as much. It was three at the most. Nobody pinned blame on me or Yang for it but it was obvious.
Ruby:I mean how can you blame someone for feeling sad or not in love with someone? Pointing fingers doesn’t do anything. However, I bet missions were rough.
Blake:Bumblebee was shelved. We did any other team up we could. When push came to shove, Yang and I did put feelings aside. Neither of us wanted our feelings to get anyone killed. That’s probably what kept us connected for awhile, especially with Salem. I don’t think we questioned each other when it came to watching one another’s back. Slowly, our relationship got a bit better. Until....we stopped speaking to each other altogether about a couple years later.
Yang:Wait, why!?
Blake:I got pregnant.
The three listeners’ faces scrunched up and they let in a sharp breath like they just got cut. No one had considered that bombshell.
Blake:Marriage was rough enough. Having Jaune’s kid and starting a family just...cut deep I guess. You didn’t make a scene or anything if that’s what you’re worried about. One day you told me “I just can’t do this” and exited my life. I wanted to keep you close to me, but you wanted to be closer. That was a thing I couldn’t do. Hehe, I can’t tell you how weird it is talking to you like this again.
Yang:So that’s it!? We just don’t see each other at all!?
Blake:Certain events and celebrations have us in the same room, but that’s all. Ruby is the only thing that regularly links us, but she’s busy living life too.
Ruby:Is it a good life?
Blake:The best. You’re the huntress you always wanted to be and a hero to many.
Ruby:*smiles* Really? That’s good. May she ride that high for as long as she can. Though I bet she wished she had a special someone to share that with.
Blake:Huh? Oh, you married Weiss.
Weiss:*red* What!?
Ruby:Aye, nice.
Weiss:Weren’t you upset about thinking of other people with Jaune besides you!?
Ruby:Yeah, but I won’t deny if I am going to be with someone that isn’t him, I’m very happy it’s the other special person in my life. I mean come on, the only reason we don’t get weird in your universe is because I married your brother and you already invited my sister.
Weiss:I mean...it’s mainly the brother portion. The second part...
Ruby:Weiss, that’s weird.
Yang:Eh...
Ruby:IT’S WEIRD! YOU CANNOT TELL ME OTHERWISE!
Yang:*sips coffee* Eh.
Blake:Anyways, Weiss, you’re running your company. The Schnee Dust Company was scrubbed top to bottom to remove as much corruption as possible. No department was overlooked. In times of money, there’s a notable decrease in how much the company used to make.
Weiss:Gee, I wonder if that’s because the other me is doing oh let me guess, paying all their workers and not cutting corners in safety?
Blake:The SDC people approval has gone up considerably, just so you know that too. Turns out people like it when the company they buy from have good morals.
Weiss:Am I happy though? I make time for my social life and hu- I mean wife?
Blake:Yea, you’re happy. In a way I think we’re all happy, but....
Yang:We’d be happier if we were all happy together? Yeah, that’s how it works. You’re only as happy as the most miserable person in a family or group; if you all care about each other that is. Ugh, I wanna punch the other me. I get how she feels but it’s fucking immature to just ignore years of teamwork and family. At the end of the day, team RWBY is a family! Can’t believe I’d runaway from it instead of figuring out...I don’t know! Something!
Blake:*small smile* Well if you feel that way then there’s no reason to believe she doesn’t. My Yang just struggles with it more I guess, but I hope she can come around one day. Not really for my sake, but for her own peace of mind. As well as Lucas’s.
Ruby:Lucas? Your son I take it?
Blake:Mmhmm. My strong and lazy young man. He got his father’s hair but my eyes and ears. I can’t think of a person who warms my heart quite like him. He acts uninterested in a lot of things, but his heart is so big.
Weiss:Ah, so he’s just you?
Blake:More or less hehe. Though I’d say I was passionate about things all my life. Lucas will sleep all day if he could and doesn’t like going out without a reason.
Weiss:Still sounds like you if I’m being honest. Teenager?
Blake:Seventeen, almost eighteen.
Yang:You said he’s need peace of mind too? I’m not...hostile towards him am I?
Blake:No, not by a long shot. On the occasions you two have meant, you were polite. It’s just he knows why you don’t visit or talk to me. That’s rough, knowing your parent’s closest friend stopped being apart of their life because you were born. I think sometimes he believes it’s actually his fault.
Yang:I really, really want to meet this other me and have a few words. She needs to know she isn’t trying hard enough. I’m proof.
Ruby:Yeah, but you’re only well off because the person that helped you get over Blake, was Jaune. Yeah she still can find love, but who that person will be would be uncharted territory for everyone.
Blake:Also I’m not entirely sure exactly if my Yang is even bi like you.
Yang:Sigh....
Weiss:Love.
Blake:Huh?
Weiss:As long as a person shows your Yang genuine love and a place in their heart where she’ll remain forever, Yang would fall for them. They just have to make it a point to make her feel like they’ll stay. Yangs are softies like that.
Yang:Wow, you an expert on me and all the versions of me now?
Weiss:No, you’re just a bleeding heart that’s super emotional. Let me guess, you fell for Jaune the moment you realized just how relaxed and vulnerable you could allow yourself to be around him.
Yang:*red*.......he holds me when I’m overwhelmed.
RWB:Awwww
Yang:Shut up! Blake, take the heat off me.
Blake:Not too much more. Lucas is a smart kid who generally stays out of trouble. Unfortunately, trouble finds him. Mainly because of his semblance.
Ruby:Don’t tell me...
Blake:No no, it’s not bad luck like your uncle, but Lucas can’t always control it so their similar in that regard. Premonitions, that’s his semblance.
Weiss:Like...the future? You child can see the future?!
Blake:Yeah. *sips drink* it’s terrible.
Ruby:What? That sounds so handy! Man, if I could someone fighting me before it happened, I’d be a monster on the battlefield.
Blake:Lucas isn’t a fighter. Well, he’s not aspiring to fight. He can fight, pretty dang well in fact.; but randomly seeing the future is not a gift. Imagine picking up a book and you suddenly know the ending, or watching a movie and you start seeing the middle of it right after you press play?
Yang:Ahhh, that’s why he’s lazy and unmotivated. His semblance is massive spoiler alert. Half the fun of new things is not knowing what will happen.
Ruby:Oof, you have a point. I’d be paranoid to no end.
Blake:To a point, he was. Ever since he was ten. Disasters happen at the drop of a hat. Lucas isn’t the kind of person to watch bad things unfold, so whenever it was possible or even if it was risky, he’d do whatever he could to prevent said disaster. But.....there’s only so much anyone person can do. There’s only so much information he sees. The constant strain and guilt that came from failing ate him up. The. There’s the incidents he’s seen that didn’t show him how it began or how it will end. *rubbing her hands* It’s bad...
Weiss:Hey, I...I’ve noticed your hands and frankly even your face are a bit....slim. Your skin isn’t as colorful as I’m used to either. Almost like it’s regaining color.
Blake:Hehehe.......I guess you were bound to notice of all people.
Weiss:Of course. I may not run a a company in my world but I keep tabs on my brother and have had my fair share of visits to a doctor. Why wouldn’t I notice.
Yang:So can we talk as if there are people who have no clue what’s going on?
Weiss:Blake has had one of two things happen to her. She’s either worked way too hard to the point she’s not taking care of her health, or she’s fallen very ill and her body is still recovering.
Blake:Yeah, it’s more of the second one, but probably because of the first one as well. Forwarding equality, I was overzealous with it. One day Lucas just started shaking and crying when he was twelve and I couldn’t understand why. Turns out he kept seeing me bedridden and unconscious without a reason. Day in and day out he simply cried and tried his best to get another premonition to learn more, but couldn’t. A week later I started feeling a little dizzy, and then blacked out after vomiting. At first I thought maybe I had the flu or something. Nope, a tumor.
Weiss:What?
Ruby:Blake!?
Yang:Oh shit, are you-
Blake:Perfectly fine! *smiles* I’m fine. Liver cancer, but it was caught early. No more tumor what so ever, but the meds and the entire process was really draining. Got sicker a couple of times. Not once did I feel like I was dying necessarily, more like...slipping? I felt myself getting drained. The whole time Lucas was so scared; blaming himself for not preventing this or knowing how to fix it. Though simply knowing he saw me like was a warning most people wish they got. I know I said seeing the future is terrible, but the scariest part through all of this was not knowing how it ended. Choosing medicine, doctors, surgery possibilities, it made me crack under pressure a little. I think he noticed that. I wasn’t sure if I picking an option that lead me dying or getting better. The stress alone may have killed me. Ever since then Lucas hasn’t been so outgoing.
Ruby:....
Weiss:....
Yang....It was already said, but there was no way this wasn’t going to get sad was there?
Blake:Take it from me, there’s joy in pain. So many people came to visit me when I was recovering. Even Yang dropped by for a bit. After I got out, I don’t think Lucas ever hugged me so hard. Jaune tried to stay calm through the whole ordeal but it was rough for him too. He was all but spent emotionally when I came home.
Weiss:I’m surprised Lucas didn’t become an older brother.
Blake:The last thing a recovering patient needs is a pregnancy, but as far as missing me goes...
Ruby:You can stop right there with that tangent.
Yang:We’ll talk about that in private. I wouldn’t mind that story.
Blake:*playfully rolls eyes* These days I try not to over do things. I’ve only officially been deemed completely cured for about a year. I can feel that I’m still not entirely up to strength. It’s fine though. It gives me an excuse for Lucas to dote on me a little. He’s a mama’s boy at heart. My biggest worries these days is peeling him out of this shell his semblance had put him in. At the very least I want him to smile like he used to and find away to live in moment when possible. His entire life is ahead of him. Hopefully he doesn’t see all of it.
Ruby:I guess too much of anything really is bad. Knowledge included. I hope things work out.
Yang:Me too. A happy life is something you definitely earned.
Blake:Thanks. That seriously means a lot, which is why I made sure to not end this on a sour note.
The happy faunus pulled out her scroll to scroll through pictures and her friends eyes lit up. The first one was a beach photo. This Jaune was different from what they were used to. He let his hair grow a little bit longer and the back went down his neck, but it was definitely still him. This jaune was pretty toned and went for a lean look than bulky like Weiss’s, but a tad slimmer. On his shoulders was an adorable toddler with wide amber eyes and big blonde cat ears. Both men were enjoying the sunset on the waves.
The next photo was more recent with Blake right in the middle of hopping into Lucas’s arms. Weiss noticed the girl still had on the hospital bracelet. She must’ve just gotten cleared. Lucas had grown like a weed. He was now roughly Jaune’s height. His hair was messy and looked like Jaune’s in his younger years. Also like his father, Lucas was jacked! His sleeveless purple shirt should off his biceps as they wrapped around Blake’s torso for a hug. His baggy purple shorts had black and gold trim through the seams and the shorts stopped right below his knees; but showed of his well defined calves. A smile of pure joy and what could’ve been a few tears were visible as he looked lovingly at his mother. It warmed all of the ladies hearts. Still, the girls also could tell under his eyes were a little dark. Lucas must’ve been very tired.
The final picture had to be the most recent. It was Blake and Lucas sparring. Both looked at each other with excitement and ease as their wooden blades clashed. Their clothes mirrored one another by being black and white kimonos. They even wore the traditional shoes and everything.
Weiss:Yeah, that’s your kid.
Blake:Damn right. Unfortunately that makes him a little too stubborn. But I guess that’s okay. Without a doubt, someone’s gonna break through that shell of his.
Yang:Oh? It sounds like you already know who?
Blake:Well....I have a hunch.
xxxxx
RING! RING! RING! Lucas’s scroll chirped, in the middle of the night. The boy let out a long, agitated groan of sleepiness as he rolled over in bed; reaching for his scroll on the nightstand to answer.
Lucas:Hello?
???:Did you know you are mathematically more likely to choke on a hotdog than get attacked by a shark?
Lucas:....Serenity, who gave you my number?
Serenity:Your parents, and it’s Serendipity!
Lucas:Too many syllables. Also a bit ironic given who you are. With the way you act though, my name for you is better.
Serenity:Ooooo so we’re moving on to pet names? How forward of you.
Lucas:Five seconds before I hang up. Three...two-
Serenity:You’re late! You promised to guide me around the beach at twelve. That’s now.
Lucas:.....P.M. Twelve P.M. Serenity. Why in the world would I mean midnight!?
Serenity:It’s romantic and personal. Nobody else is around. I thought you were trying to use that Belladonna magic on me by acting all cool and aloof in the moonlight.
Lucas:.....
Lucas:Please delete my number.
Serenity:Not on your life, my whiskered bodyguard!
Lucas:Don’t have whiskers-
Serenity:If you don’t wanna move that butt of yours to hang out with a pretty girl in a floppy hat and sundress with a bikini underneath, that’s your loss. I’m still going for a dip.
Lucas:Do not go in the water when nobody is around.
Serenity:Pfft, I’m a strong swimmer.
Lucas:Sharks.
Serenity:It’s more dangerous to eat a hotdog.
Lucas:Sharks feed at night.
Serenity:Are you trying to tell me the statistics aren’t as reliable just because it’s nighttime.
Lucas:That’s exactly what I’m saying.
Serenity:Then you better move your butt just in case. Either you get a snack or the sharks do. Either way, I get attention.
Lucas:Difference is one wants to eat you.
Serenity:My goodness Lucas, oh brazen of you.
Lucas:......
Lucas:Tell the sharks I said hi.
Serenity:Okay! Byyyyyyeeeee! *hangs up*
Lucas:(She’ll be fine.)
..........
Lucas:*putting on shoes* This is bullshit. Who thinks midnight!? *walking down stairs* Can’t have a peaceful day or night....
Jaune:*watching tv* Hey Lucas, going some-
Lucas:I’m giving out your phone number to a homeless man the first chance I get! *walks out door*
Jaune:.....(Whatever gets you outside more.)
It took about fifteen minutes of aggressive walking for Lucas to wrap around to the back of his house towards their section of the beach. Where Serenity walked around humming and collecting seashells without a care in the world.
Lucas:The next shell you grab will have a crab in it.
Serenity:Huh? Oh hey you’re finally-ahhhh! Ow ow ow ow ow ow!
Lucas:Should’ve listened.
Serenity:Have a better warning!!!! It won’t let go!
Lucas:Pull it off.
Serenity:That’s hurt!!! Lucas, help!
Lucas:Fine, if you delete my number.
Serenity:*sniffling* Stop being mean!!! This really hurts, it’s breaking the skin. Isn’t a young and pretty girl’s tears payment enough!? I thought you were getting paid to-
Lucas:Oh my goodness! Okay, just shush. I’m too sleepy for this.
Serenity:You’re mean when you’re sleepy. At least your waking up voice sounds handsome though.
Lucas:Please....stop. Stop everything. *removing crab* Happy?
Serenity:No, you’re not happy. Also my finger is bleeding.
Lucas:Yep, looks like you can’t go swimming now for real.
Serenity:Eh, I lied anyways. I’m not getting in that water. There are sharks in that watery grave.
Lucas:So. Why. Did. You. Wake. Me. Up?
Serenity:....*red* I...don’t really, have friends here. Besides you. Umm *points to pail and shovels* sandcastles?
Lucas:*inhales*......I’ll get the water.
Serenity:*smiles* Yes! I’ll delete your number later.
Lucas:*red* You....can keep it of you really want.
Serenity:....Kek, okay Mr. Tsundere
Lucas:You can remove the next crab alone.
Serenity:Don’t joke like that! That was a joke, right?
Lucas:Welp that pail isn’t gonna fill itself. *leaves*
Serenity:What!? Lucas!!! You were joking right!? Right!? *looking around the sand* you’re a lousy bodyguard!
Lucas:Good, fire me.
Serenity:I...you....ugh!
Lucas:Cheer up, I’m happy now after all. *smiles*
Serenity:*pouting* This is why I’m a dog person.

slow motion, double vision in rose blush (Renora College AU)
Summary: Ren doesn't need alcohol to know how gorgeous his best friend is or to admit to himself (kind of, sort of) that his feelings towards her aren't exactly platonic. Apparently, he just needs it if he wants to be unable to ignore those facts.
Warnings: Drinking alcohol, some suggestive thoughts
Fic under the read more or can be read on AO3 here
I wrote this for Flower Power Week, but I didn’t see that there was a rule to keep works PG-13 until I was almost finished with this fic, and I figure this fic is already inherently a bit more mature than that, so I don’t think I should use the tag or tag the blog.
Hope you enjoy!
Parties wouldn't really be considered Ren's "thing".
He much prefers the slightly-hectic-but-relatively-calm get-togethers of his friends that they manage to schedule every week or so amongst all their university classes. But it was the end of some particularly grueling midterms and everyone in their little friend group (and apparently, everyone on campus) had wanted to let loose and let wild after being cooped up with only their textbooks and their stress for so long. So that, and not enough displeasure at the plan to do anything about it, is how Ren ended up in the corner of the front room of some frat house with a red Solo cup in his hand.
He doesn't know where most of his friends have gone. Ren hasn't seen all of them in one place since basically when they first arrived and Yang had shoved shots of - Ren hasn't drunk enough alcohol in his life to know for sure, but he would assume it's whiskey - into each of their hands. He didn't have much desire to down it in one go like most of the group, would rather let its burn come in little bursts than have all of the pain all at once. By the time he had finished it, Yang had taken Blake somewhere promising to dance, Ruby heard a rumor of a ping pong table and had set off to find it with Weiss so they can challenge each other, and Jaune and Pyrrha went… somewhere. The only friend who hadn't wandered off was Nora, who immediately upon finishing her shot had started pouring ice, orange juice, and maybe a tad too much vodka into a Solo cup.
She had immediately come back to his side, expressing how much this was needed for her after midterms. Nora then starts rambling about what lengths she had gone to in order to make the information stick and the stomach aches she got from the stress and how she was shaking during her last test partly from how little sleep she had gotten in the past month from projects. At least, that's what Ren was pretty sure she was talking about. The music was so loud that he had to lean in pretty close to hear what Nora was saying, and even then he couldn't pick up half the words said. Which was a shame, because as much as people seem to believe he just ignores her, Ren does listen to everything his best friend wants to say, and he likes listening to everything she says.
Nora must've noticed how close Ren was leaning in, or his discomfort at the loud music, as she then grabs his hand and walks them somewhere else, still talking all the while. The farther they walk, the quieter the music gets, the more Ren can hear Nora. They arrive at some far-off corner and Ren is more than content to stay there and listen to Nora for the rest of the night. But then a girl dressed more like she was going to a full-out rave rather than a college party rushes up to Nora and begs her to be her partner at beer pong.
"Kobalt and Ivori are ‘too cool’ for it, and Flynt's our DD, so obviously he can't drink, and you're fun enough and I bet you'd be super good at beer pong-"
Ren can tell Nora wants to say yes, but she keeps looking at him from the corner of her eye like she doesn't want to leave him alone. If he really had heard her correctly, then she is certainly deserving of some fun right now, and it might be a little awkward standing here alone but it wouldn't be the worst thing.
 "You should go," he says.
Nora turns her head fully to him. "Are you sure? You gonna be okay here all by your lonesome?"
Ren gives her a little smile. "I think I can manage."
"Great!" the girl says with a clap of her hands. "So it's settled". She grabs the cup that Nora was holding and hands it off to Ren. "Now be a good boyfriend and keep this safe for her."
Nora's face flushes, and Ren can feel that he does too. "Oh no, Neon, we're not-" but before she can continue her denial, Neon yanks her away to the beer pong table.
They're a little ways away, but they are perfectly within Ren's eyesight. He can see that they're playing against Sun and Neptune. He doesn't know them too well but he hasn't known them as anything other than friendly. Well, Jaune might disagree at least where Neptune's concerned, but it's been ages and he's since got over his crush on Weiss, so he's probably okay with him now. They start their game and on her first try, Nora lands the ball cleanly into one of the other team's cups. She jumps and pumps her fist in the air, showing off that usual bright beautiful smile in her joy that always seems to lighten up every room and flood Ren's insides with warmth.
He looks away a little, not wanting to acknowledge what that feeling really meant, even if he had finally admitted to himself that what he had felt for his best friend wasn’t exactly platonic. The admission itself is a barely-there kind of thing because no matter how much Ren would prefer it, he couldn't be in complete denial over it for the rest of time so he'll just settle for being as close to that as possible. Nora's his best friend, what they've had since they were kids - it's good. For the most part, he's completely fine with the way things are and Nora seems to also so why potentially ruin or try to change something that's practically perfect already? Before he could uncomfortably spiral into that thought process anymore, mercifully, he is interrupted. But not so mercifully, that interruption is from Nora, laughing so loud and wonderfully that Ren just plummets even deeper.
Something funny must have happened. Or maybe not. It doesn't seem to take much to send Nora into a fit of laughter. He likes that about her, that she can let joy or other emotions in so easily and that she doesn't really care about how it may look or what others might think. He's glad there isn't some insecurity that keeps Nora from laughing so often. She has such a nice laugh and Ren likes knowing she's happy and it's nice that she does it so much. And her lips are so pretty, especially when she smiles. He can't help but keep his focus on them. That is until she throws her head back, showing off the nice smooth skin of her neck. Ren then starts to wonder what it would be like to press his lips to the side of it and just how she'd react before he realizes the nature of just what exactly he's thinking.
His mouth goes dry. Without thinking, he raises Nora's cup to his lips to make it go away but it isn't until he's already swallowed and surprised himself with the hefty burn it leaves in his throat that he remembers what was in that cup. Yeah, he definitely took a much bigger sip than he should've, and there is definitely too much vodka in that. But the orange juice masks the taste of it for the most part and the ice soothes away a good amount of the burn, so it's definitely not the worst alcoholic drink Ren's ever had and might actually be one of the more pleasant ones. He takes a smaller sip of it out of a measured curiosity.
Ren's eyes drift back to Nora. If he had any sense left in him, he'd focus on anything else, keep trying to avoid feelings he doesn't want to feel and thoughts that might be inappropriate, or definitely inappropriate. But it's as if Ren's field of vision can only narrow down to just her. There are clouds of pink on the edges of what he can see, threatening to fill up the entire room, and it seems as if the only way it won't happen is if he keeps Nora right in the center, where all her movements seem to be in slow motion.
She picked a green top tonight, a color more associated with Ren more than Nora. She bears a little more skin in this top too, the two spaghetti straps unable to hide the nice, toned muscles of Nora's arms and shoulders along with her delicate collarbone. Ren had already noticed this top when everyone was on the way to the party, trying to figure out if it was new as he's pretty sure he had never seen it before. He must've been more obvious than he should've, because Pyrrha had nudged his shoulder then, giving him a coy little smile. "Green's a good color on Nora, isn't it?" Pyrrha had said, as if he hadn't already known that. Nora doesn't have a lot of green in her own wardrobe, but Ren does, and the times when she has worn the color were usually because she was wearing his clothes. She's done it often enough - stolen his sweater to fight the cold in the café while they were studying, hung his jacket from her shoulders walking around town, switched into one of his tees and sweats when she needed to crash at his dorm for one reason or another. It always feels nice seeing Nora in green, especially when it's his green. Ren would let Nora borrow his clothes any time just to see it more often.
Nora's skirt is still her signature pink, but without the usual volume or swish ability that she loves so much. No, this skirt is… tighter. It clings to the shape of her quite well, accentuating her curves very nicely. She's doing a little dance right now, and it looks like she's singing too. Nora's a really good singer when she wants to be but he can't imagine she's deciding to be that right now. She bumps her hip against Neon's and spins around, does some shimmying movement. Ren's mouth goes dry again. He's starting to feel really warm. He should look away. Nora's his best friend. He shouldn't be getting mesmerized by the movement of her hips or tracing his eyes over the muscles of her arms, or even noticing how her outfit and especially that skirt, while she’s dancing, makes certain areas of Nora more prominent and - okay Ren's taking another drink. He's taking another drink because he needs another drink, because he needs to stop ogling Nora and thinking these kinds of thoughts about her.
The burn hurts. It's a deserved punishment.
He's a little woozy right now but he still feels guilty. Nora is beautiful. She's always been beautiful. Ren has known that even before realizing he liked her in that way. But that doesn't give him or anybody else the right to objectify her like that. It's obviously not like her being gorgeous is the only thing to Nora, and neither that nor the idea of them being physical together are why Ren fell in love with her in the first place.
 Love.
Well, that is… definitely true. It's definitely true but Ren doesn't think he's ever admitted that much to himself before. In fact, he knows he hasn't because emotions are uncomfortable and scary and often irrational and he doesn't like dealing with them especially when it could ruin probably the most important relationship he has. Why did he have to realize this now? Why did he have to realize this at all? This is uncomfortable. He might be panicking. He feels off balance. Ren takes another drink just so that he can distract himself from all of this but it doesn't quite work by the time he's finished off the rest of it.
There's nothing of this too-much-vodka concoction left and it is immediately apparent to Ren that that was not his brightest idea. He doesn't really drink too much, even at social gatherings. Their friends usually appoint him the designated driver, and he doesn't mind. If he does drink, he'll usually stop by the time he feels a hint of a buzz. This was… more than a hint. He's more off-balance than before, the room sways a little more and he thinks it's grown even pinker. His head feels cloudy. And this is the longest a burn has stayed in his throat. And he is so warm. Ren leans his back against the wall for some stability.
His eyes come back to Nora because if Ren couldn't stop it before, he can't stop it now. She's still there, being beautiful and charming and full of life, laughing with the people around her, and of course Ren is in love with her, how could he ever try to deny that fact. Neptune comes up to her, leans in kind of close to say something. Ren doesn't like that, or the way he's looking at Nora. Maybe Jaune was right about him. Maybe the problem with Neptune is that he's too friendly. Neptune points his thumb somewhere and - wait, is he pointing at him? He must have because Nora immediately turns her head and catches Ren's eye. There's some expression on her face and she immediately sets off in his direction.
There's something in Ren that tells him to act casual and he raises the cup to his lips one more time but is immediately reminded of the fact that there's nothing left in it so he figures he just looks stupid.
"Hey," Nora says as she stops in front of him. "You okay?"
Ren looks up from his empty cup and pushes himself off the wall. He probably used a lot more force than he should've and stumbles a bit, which Nora remedies by putting her hands on his shoulders. She laughs a little, and he can't help but feel even warmer.
"Guess that answers my question," Nora giggles some more.
"I'm fine," Ren says. He is very aware of how her fingers are splayed out on his shoulders, the pressure she's putting that's just enough to still him. It keeps him calm, but also doesn't, and his heart is beating so hard she must feel it where her hands are.
Her eyes scan over his face. "I've never seen your face so red." Ren's sure it only gets redder then. "How much have you had to drink?"
He wordlessly brings his attention back to the empty cup in his hand, which Nora follows. "You drank all of it?" she points at the cup, her eyes widening. "Ren, I put a lot of vodka in that!"
Ren blinks a couple times, having to more manually process what Nora said while he was trying not to stare at her mouth. "I can tell," he says, maybe a couple of seconds too late.
Nora raises an eyebrow. It's another cute look on her. "You don't really drink that much. There a reason why now?"
There's genuine concern in her voice when she asks that question, and it's so sweet and Ren's heart beats a little faster and he wants to take that concern away from her. But he doesn't think answering that question truthfully is going to help that. Ren's pretty sure the best-case scenario of saying 'you're pretty and I love you' to Nora is causing her confusion to the point of distortion.
"I was… thirsty." And that's really about as close to the truth as he can get. Ren shakes his head, but not too hard because the room is moving too much already and… ouch. "I'm sure you've had more tonight," nodding towards the beer pong table. She must've, shouldn't she? Is it just his alcohol-addled mind or does Nora not seem any bit of drunk at all?
She scoffs. "Maybe not. Sun really doesn't like putting too much beer in those cups. Besides, that's beer, not hard liquor. And I'm more experienced with it than you, so it takes a bit more to get me down. I've had more practice."
Nora shoots him a cheeky grin, a little closer to his face than she was before. She leaned in a bit when she was talking, migrated her hands closer to the base of his neck. It's nothing new. Nora being so physically affectionate is one of her trademark qualities. And Ren's happy to let her do that to him at any time, but he knows he generally seems unresponsive to it. But what if he responds to it now? He's not going to, he's absolutely not going to, but it's easier to fall into that daydream than usual. Ren could wrap his hands around Nora's waist, lean into this little space between them to ultimately close it. He could press his lips to that grin on her face, and Nora would be a little surprised, but in no time at all, she'd be kissing him back. She'd wrap her arms a little easier around his neck and she could press herself a little more against him, the idea of having any distance left between them as unappealing to Nora as it is to Ren.
 "Uhh, Ren?"
He falls out of the daydream. "Oh! Ah… umm… huh?" She hasn't been saying anything. Ren has been very focused on Nora's mouth for the past couple of minutes, so much that he had missed the blush on her face. He must've missed something happening. Did he say something? The thought of that mortifies him to no end.
He might've been emoting his thought process on his face because Nora chuckles. "Yeah. That's definitely more alcohol than you're used to." She grabs his hand and leads him over to a couch nearby. Nora lightly pushes him down next to the armrest. "You stay right here," she says firmly, but full of fondness. "I'm gonna get you some water. And I probably need some too." Nora pats his cheek a little, brushes it with her thumb. Ren almost leans into it but she pulls away too soon.
Nora turns around and goes in search of some water, and characteristically of him tonight, Ren can't help but keep her eyes on her, until he's forced to because there are too many people in that direction. He sighs, sinking into the cushions as he closes his eyes, feeling the warmth bloom in his chest. She's just so caring. Nora is just so caring and she loves people so much. And she's not afraid to give away all that love and care, to allow people to really see that that's what she feels for them, does it without a second thought. That's one of the big things, Ren thinks. That's got to be at least one of the big reasons why he fell in love with Nora.
She comes back to him with two large water bottles in her hands. Nora tucks one under her arm in order to open the other, which she gives to him. Ren takes it and continues watching Nora as she settles right next to him, sitting down then kicking her legs up onto the couch. She leans back into the cushions and shifts herself more towards him, letting her head rest closer to his shoulder. Nora moves her head a bit to drink some water and then it actually touches his shoulder. Ren loves her so much. Moments like these are so small, and it's not like they don't happen between them very much. But maybe one day Ren will be brave enough to let them happen a lot more often, and those moments will have a slightly different meaning between the two of them than it does now.
She looks so pretty in this light. Nora looks pretty in any light.
Nora catches his eye again. She pushes her hand up beneath the water bottle Ren had forgotten that he was holding. "Drink up."
And who is Ren to refuse her? He starts to sip his first non-alcoholic drink of the night and already his head is starting to feel less like it's filled with cotton. He drinks until the room feels still again, until everything stops looking like it's in slow motion, until there's no more pink clouds on the edges of his vision. Before he knows it, Ren's finished the whole bottle and his throat feels the best it's been all night.
Despite the lack of pink clouds and an apparent increase in sobriety, Ren still keeps looking at Nora. She's giggling now. He doesn't know what exactly is so funny but that doesn't really matter.
"Feel better now?" She asks. He nods because he doesn't know just what he'll admit to her right now if he allows himself to speak. "Great. I'm glad they set out those really big water bottles. That really saved me another trip. And you probably didn't drink enough that you'd need ibuprofen or something. I would've said to take some just in case, but I'm not sure what taking meds when something isn't really wrong with you could do to you. I think you should be fine now. Don't think you'll wake up in the morning with a hangover."
Ren just keeps looking at Nora, without a word. He doesn't need them right now. He doesn't think he needs to do anything else besides look at Nora and hear her talk for the rest of time.
But something must be wrong because Nora turns her head away a little, shrinking a bit into herself. "Are you mad at me?"
That surprises him. "No," that is very much not what he was feeling towards Nora right now. "Why would you think that?"
She heaves out a heavy sigh. "Neptune said you were staring at me the whole time we were playing." Ren's heart stops a little. Nora keeps shrinking down and her voice feels smaller.  "I don't know- I just figured you might be angry at me for leaving you alone at a place I know you'd rather not be."
Ren straightens up, shifts fully towards her so she can more easily believe what he's about to say. "I told you to go," maybe he's leaning more forward than he usually would, makes more direct eye contact with Nora. "And being here isn't too bad. I just- uh- I uh-" He puts his head down a little, taking some time to find the right words. How does Ren explain the staring? That he just loves the way she exists and who she is and she deserves good times and it's nice when she gets them?
"You were having fun," Ren brings himself to look back at her, says these words in all earnest. "I like when you have fun."
That takes her back a little. Nora's eyes widen but her face softens. For one terrifying but almost hopeful moment, Ren thinks she might've understood what he really meant underneath those words. She smiles and brings her hand up to his face. She uses a couple fingers to sweep his bangs to the side. Ren's eyes almost close at the contact.
"You're so sweet," Nora says, almost like she's in disbelief. "You wanna go back home? I can walk you back."
"Are you sure?" That does sound like a good idea to Ren, but he doesn't want to take Nora away from something she enjoys just for him. "I'm honestly fine here. I know you were really stressed, I don't mind if you wanna unwind a little more."
Nora smiles a little wider. "I think I've had a good amount of unwinding here already. If I stay here any longer and leave you unattended, who knows how many more screwdrivers you'll drink." She moves her hand from his forehead down to his cheek. "And you need to get home safe. For the most part, you seem all right now, but I just… I need to make sure."
Ren leans into the hand Nora has on his cheek. It's a bit more than he'd usually do, but it feels right. "Alright then."
"Can I crash at yours' too?" she asks. Ren chuckles a little at that, because when has Nora ever needed to ask that.
"Of course." And then some daydream starts again. They get back to his single dorm and it'll be just like the other times Nora's slept over there. She'll switch tonight's outfit out for some of Ren's pajamas and she'll look just as good, if not better to Ren. They'll lay down and fall asleep in his bed, and that's all they'll do tonight. And then the morning comes and there's no trace of alcohol in their systems and everything's in the clear, and Ren will kiss her, soft and sweet. Nora will kiss him back because she has wanted this just as much as he has. He'll keep a hand on her cheek and maybe she'll tangle her fingers in his hair. Then maybe they end up never leaving the dorm that day, or even the bed. They'll talk, of course. They'll say what needs to be said, about their feelings and anything else. It's decided between them that Nora can sleep at his dorm a lot more often. And when she does, they don't need to struggle as much to fit together on this twin size XL bed, because Ren can wrap himself around her and they can let their legs get tangled together. He can wake up and bury his head into the hollow of Nora's shoulder and just breathe her in. The next time they see their friends, Ren and Nora won't act all that much different, but it won't take long before they realize something's up. They'll get it out of them, and they'll be happy, and then they'll be mercilessly teased because how did it take you two this long? Ren will get a bit embarrassed, but Nora will take it in stride. She'll kiss the blush on his face, and he'll just blush harder, and she'll laugh a little until he does too.
But Nora in this reality grabs his hand and forces him to stand. He doesn't know if it's just how much he was in that daydream or if he's still a little buzzed from the alcohol, but it's a little disorienting as he makes movements.
Before he knows it, they're out the front door and into the cold night air. It's a little windy out. Ren wishes he had a jacket to give to Nora.
They walk at a leisurely pace in the direction of his dorm. Their hands are still intertwined, their arms swinging in between them. They don't speak, not uncommon at all for Ren but a little surprising from Nora. Ren might've wondered at this if we weren’t lost in his own thoughts.
How close is that daydream to reality? How close could that daydream be to becoming reality? Is it just Ren or are there enough pieces in place for that to happen? All this time he's been worried about losing their friendship, what they already have. But what kind of future could they have? What could they gain? Is all that Ren really needs to do is get over himself?
Maybe he's still not in his right mind. It certainly can't be that easy. But he can recall a few times when he's caught Nora looking at him. And maybe some of the comments she's passed off as jokes had more truth to them than she lets on.
Everything about this still feels scary, but not as scary as it was before. He is at least very lucky to fall in love with such an incredible, amazing woman who's already his best friend. He doesn't know what will happen, but he does know what could. And yes, that may include losing the person closest to him. But as devastating as that is, there's another possibility that is at least that amount of wonderful.
He peers at Nora from the corner of his eye. She's tucking some hair behind her ear to keep it from flapping in the breeze. Her hand is so warm in his.
Ren's not going to do anything like confess to her tonight. Or the next morning. But looking at Nora, and holding her hand, and thinking about the good possibilities - he thinks he's starting to build up the courage.

Our Home Away From Home, Away From Home
[1] [2] [3] [4-5] [6] [7] [x-x] [10]
PART 8 – Permutation
Its almost strange to call it home, Yang thinks, staring up at the house she grew up in. She'd spent so much time in a cozy little dorm and a browning two-bedroom apartment that a house in the woods almost seems like a distant memory. (She hadn't spent Summer here either. She was in Menagerie with Blake then Mistral with her dad for a getaway, and the rest she spent kicking back with Jaune).
"A lot happened this year," she says.
Jaune's eying the woods around them, trying to see a break in the pattern outside of a few distant houses lost between the bark and autumn leaves. He swallows cause he knows that, if it weren't for Yang, he'd have been terribly lost. "Hm? Uh… huh?" he garbles, unable to hide the tinge of panic.
"A lot happened this year," she repeats. "What's up with you?"
"The woods are thick is all. How you only got lost in it once is beyond me… So, what's with the nostalgia? Old house got you thinking?"
"Something like that. Mostly, I didn't think I'd end up here, getting ready to reacquaint with Raven, and getting you of all people to meet my parents."
"Yeah, didn't think I'd end up introducing another blonde to my sisters either. Future seemed full of redheads and I stuck with it like an act of defiance."
"Defiance? Why's that?"
"If you haven't noticed, we're all terribly blonde. Even Adrian's hair is a dirty gold and we thought for sure he'd be a brunette. It's either a curse, or fate is terrible at jokes and uncomfortable at parties."
She chuckles. "Calling fate out like a loser isn't going to win you any favors. Besides, can't help it when both your folks are blondes."
"One of my sisters is adopted. A blind adoption, mind you. From Vacuo. You know what we got? Chocolate brown skin and dusty blonde hair. Boom. Curse."
There's the sound of fluttering feathers behind them. Qrow straightens his back with a snap as he shapeshifts. "Ngh, agh! Ha… What are two doing just standing outside? Expecting another invitation?"
Jaune and Yang exchange a look. "Stalling," they say in unison.
"W-what? How did you two…? Nevermind." He pinches his forehead cause the moment is too familiar and he feels an irrational envy creep up his cheeks. "You two coming in or not?"
"Why so impatient all of a sudden?" Jaune asks.
"I don't take enjoyment out of watching a train wreck but if I can't stop it, I'll at least hope it's over quickly."
Yang puts a hand on her hip. "Not very optimistic, are you?"
"I prefer cautious," he says as he waves a dismissive hand and stalks ahead of them. "Besides, I don't want you two walking in there expecting things to go off without a hitch." He glances back to see them roll their eyes at the same time and that uncomfortable shiver is back.
"Now that you're here, a disaster's all but guaranteed," Jaune quips.
Qrow glares but neither of them lose their cheek. He rolls his eyes too, but doesn't show them his smile when he's got his back turned. He isn't too sensitive about his semblance – if anything, he's glad Jaune can treat him like he isn't a wounded animal – but he notices the twitch in Jaune's eye. It's there cause he's too soft a soul to have all the bite that quips demand. He almost wants to say sorry for it. "He's a good kid,"
Qrow thinks.
With a twist of the knob, he opens the door and then kicks up his heel to slam it open the rest of the way. He wanders in with a swagger and a mischievous grin. Both fit him naturally.
"Rae!" he shouts. "Your brat and her boyfriend are at the door!"
Jaune balks and shoots Yang a look. She gives him a quick, "He's just like that when he talks to her," and ushers him in.
"And you didn't let them in like a normal fucking person!?" Raven shouts back and it's like a nostalgic gust has poured over Yang. Raven's every inflection is recognizable, echoing deeply from buried memories. They argued like this often when she was small.
"They can walk through a door just fine," Qrow says, swinging into the archway that leads into a tall kitchen. "And lest you forget, I'm a guest here, too. Not your chaperone."
Jaune lets Yang wander ahead, eying her backside as she inches a trail behind Qrow.
Yang peeks in to see her mother chopping something on the kitchen table by the sink. Bravado has taken a backseat and the very reality of the situation has settled in like a bat to Yang's blindside.
"Do you really have to be difficult with me right now?" Raven says with a huff but there's no bite to it, just lazy exasperation.
"Yeah, I do…" Qrow replies. "This is our normal. The minute I go easy on you, assume I'm dead and you've encountered a terribly tolerable doppelganger."
Raven's cheek quirks and it triggers in Yang things she half remembers, and half convinces herself she'd seen in a dream.
"Hmph. Bold of you to assume I won't just take the trade as an act of divine mercy. Maybe this doppelganger can cook for the house every once in a while instead of free loading off my dinner."
"If you wanted me to cook venison, you could have asked."
"Not the deer again… Tai hates it when you bring the kill into the kitchen. I personally don't care that you track blood on the carpet, but he refuses to agree with my sentiments about a house that's lived in and not one you find sterilized in catalogs. Ugh, I'm getting tired just thinking of that argument."
"I know," Qrow agrees, leaning on the counter. "That's why I do it on purpose."
Raven tilts her head back to give her brother a smirk. "You're a scoundrel, Qrow," she says just before her eyes catch Yang's.
"Hey, Mom," Yang says out of instinct. It's too late to take it back.
"Yang, you–" she crosses her arms, "–who is this?"
Jaune's heat presses against her arm like the partner he is. Not in front like her protector, but beside her like her equal. She can feel the way he's hiding his nerves with the shudder in his arm. "Dad didn't tell you?" she says. "This is Jaune. My boyfriend."
Jaune, borrowing confidence he's learned from her, doesn't back down. "Good afternoon, ma'am," he greets, standing proudly. His fingers twitch against Yang's arm.
"Oh, he told me about him alright. I just wasn't expecting a familiar face." Her eyes lock onto him. She smirks when she sees he doesn't flinch. "You're an Arc, I take it? I recognize that face. Your father was in the news once or twice."
"Oh, you heard about the manticore horde? Or was it the behemoth at Glenn?"
"Neither. He blew up a dust shop."
Oddly enough, Yang feels him relax.
"Yeah," he says, scratching his head, "Arcs really shouldn't have guns."
Raven nods. There's no tension here, and Yang feels it's gone all too smoothly.
"Perhaps you can tell me the story," Raven offers as she turns back to chopping. "I have an old bet with Qrow I'd like to settle."
"What did you bet on?" Jaune asks.
Raven snorts. "And let you lie to give my brother the win? Please. I know you two are friendly." She glances back. It's the only other time through this whole conversation that she's looked Yang in the eye and it's still only for a second. She goes back to chopping. "Why don't you two go into the living room and wait for Tai while my silent shadow of a brother here helps me sort out this recipe."
Qrow shrugs and continues to say nothing other than whisper something to Raven that makes her blush angrily.
Yang peels off of Jaune and her insides broil unsteadily.
"Sounds like she's changed," Jaune says when he's in the living room alone with her on a wide U-shaped sofa.
She shakes her head. "She hasn't though."
"What? But the way you described her before–"
"–is all hearsay. I had a mom who left out of the blue. Before that she was jabbing back and forth with Qrow, needing help in the kitchen, and trying her best to be on top of things. Everything I said about her between that time was just me making assumptions about a woman who wasn't around for me to judge in person. I never actually knew if she changed any since leaving."
"So this is Raven Branwen: Unfiltered? If this is what she was like before, then maybe she's just trying to fit back into place the only way she knows how."'
She raises her knees to curl up but she forces them back down. She doesn't want to appear too obviously vulnerable. Not when her mother is still in the house. She tosses Jaune a meaningful glance. "Is it wrong for me to hate that?"
"Some people might say it is, but I think it's too much to ask someone who has had to raise her little sister all on her own to let her absentee mother just waltz back into her life like nothing's changed."
"I still don't know if you're agreeing with me or not."
"Cause I don't know either. Give me a minute to think on it and I'll probably pick a side but I'd much rather stay right where I am. On neutral ground." He squeezes her hand. "I'm here to be your backup, not your coach." Because they don't solve each other's issues, not every time, but they always help each other along.
She knows this, of course. She hasn't deluded herself into thinking that they could crack every case just because love had lofty ideas about making everything right. Being in love doesn't solve everything, it just gives you a partner to solve them with.
"I think I'm suddenly very tired," she says, leaning on his arm. "Wake me in an hour when dinner's ready."
"Uh… shouldn't it be done sooner?"
"Raven used to wake up at five AM to make breakfast in time for school. She takes breaks cause she doesn't always have the patience for it. Don't expect it to go any faster with Uncle Qrow in there. He's just there to make sure she doesn't skip any steps."
"That doesn't fill my with confidence," he says but she's already snuggling into his arm with a contented sigh.
With the sound of clattered pans and restrained yelling from the kitchen, Jaune decides to shut his eyes too.
-0-
Jaune is violently awoken by someone grabbing him by the collar and shaking him awake.
"You!" says the messy tuft of blonde hair presently pressed against his face. "You're… yer…. Hic!" The scent of alcohol is palpable. The smell is dizzying.
He blinks himself awake. "Uh, you're Mr. Xiao Long, I'm guessing? I'm Jaune. Yang said she mentioned me?"
The tuft of hair pulls up revealing the chiseled scruff of a well-worn huntsman. Faded scars litter his neck and chin, but that's where all the menace in him ends. Despite his tone, Taiyang has the look of a desperate man. His eyes are wide and a solid, beautiful blue. His cheeks have a slight plump to them that make him just shy of an Adonis.
Jaune makes the executive decision not to think along that line any further. But it's clear that Yang's got stellar genes and – No! Bad Jaune! Stop it!
Tai glances at the slumbering Yang, snoring softly against Jaune's arm. "What did you do to my daughter?" he says with a drunken pout that would look more intimidating on a pug.
"Uh, nothing!" he whispers urgently. "Nothing I swear."
He squints so much that he closes his eyes and nearly passes out before he jolts himself awake. "You… You and Qrow really are friends. 'Nothing,' he says… that's just code for plowed her till sunrise."
Still in a sleepy haze, Yang pushes her father's face away until he falls back onto the coffee table behind him. "Dad… leave him alone," she groans. "He wouldn't touch me even if I tore off his clothes and –" Her eyes shoot open, fully awake and painfully aware. Her scream then is almost silent, Jaune thinks, but he's pretty certain that's cause Yang's vivid horror is blasted like shellshock when she abruptly screams louder next to his ear and scrambles over the sofa to hide behind it.
He's still shaking his head to get the ringing out.
Qrow bursts in, Raven meekly peeking behind him. "What the fuck – Oh."
Tai is sprawled over the coffee table, squinting angrily at everything.
"Bird!" Tai accuses, swinging his arm out to point at him but slamming it on the hardwood coffee table. "Ow," he mutters as his aura flares.
"Drunk," Qrow greets. He hoists the man over his shoulder. "Sorry about this, kids. I think Tai's got his nerves bundled up again. I'll get him to detox upstairs after a nap."
"Uh, it looks like he'll be out for the week," Jaune says, shaking his head still. "I doubt a nap will fix him by dinner."
"Nah. Tai can burn all the alcohol out of his system with enough motivation and calories. He'll be ready by the time Rae manages to get something on the table."
Tai wiggles like an insolent child, fists lightly beating on the man's back. "Back off, Qrow!" he slurs. "You're not taking this one – hic – too… guh…"
"That's my twin sister, you dunce."
"Really?" Tai pushes his head up, eying Raven. "Pfft! Qrow, you are not that pretty."
Once the two of them have rounded the corner into Tai's bedroom, Jaune asks the quietly smiling Raven, "This happen often?"
"Not as much as it used to," she says. "Was a time when there were two whole families in this house and it was never quiet. Two men and enough testosterone to make a third made competition between them frequent. Qrow got Tai to drink and you can see that he hasn't acclimated to it as well as my brother does."
"Do you drink?"
"I'm a Branwen," she shrugs, "our blood is two parts alcohol. Small mercy that Yang hasn't picked up our habits. Or Ruby for that matter."
Jaune raises a brow. "Ruby's a Branwen?"
Yang nearly gasps from behind the couch, hands clutching her mouth.
"No," Raven says. "Well, she should have been but Qrow basically raised her all the same. He even knit her a tiny red hood when she was barely a foot tall, and it's been her motif ever since." Raven, eying him, closes her arms a little tighter around herself. As if guarded. Uncertain. "Despite how it may appear," she says, "I am glad my daughter found you but there's something you should know moving forward…"
Jaune prepares for the inevitability of the 'boyfriend' talk. It doesn't come. Raven is beside herself, eying the floor. "No matter what happens today, I do not intend to reconcile with my daughter."
He realizes that she doesn't know that Yang is in the room, just by the sofa. His heart knots. "You don't know if she wants that yet."
She laughs. It's bitter. "It doesn't matter. What Yang wants isn't coming into the equation. She needs to distance herself from me."
"What was the point of coming here if not to bridge the gap between you two?"
Raven chews her lip, wanting nothing more than to end the conversation and walk out of the room. She doesn't. Can't. "To prove that things have changed here. That me and my brother talk, and that Tai has… met me halfway."
"So this – all of this – is for show?"
Her features darken, her face hardens. "Yes."
He pushes himself up, almost prepares to march up to her. His feet don't push him any further. His willful restraint is there but it's paper thin. "And if she wants more?" he asks, inwardly begging her to give him a reason to meet her up close.
Her eyes narrow at the floor. "All you have to do is make her an Arc and she'll live a life better than anything I can give her!" Her gaze is at him, dangerous and unafraid, but its desperate. She's asking him a favor. "Asking me to be a part of her life is like active theft. You will give her all she'll ever want, but me? I'll only ever take things away. And if you give me the chance, I'll end up taking her too. She'll leave you like I did Tai."
The silence wanes and Jaune can hear the thumping in his own chest. She's making claims for things that haven't happened yet. As if she can't promise to give as well as she takes. As if she can't meet her own daughter halfway. As if she can't compromise. His ears strain to hear anything from Yang, but she's so deftly quiet that he feels alone in the room with her mother.
Muscle fastens onto bone, curling his fist inward till digs into his palm. His aura flares. The sound of it jolts him awake. He'd been holding his breath.
Then… he plops down onto his seat. Tension in his skin unwinds. All his disbelief slips away. Any anger he feels pools into his back to weigh him against the cushions. "But why?" is all he asks, looking up at her.
Raven is so taken aback by his sudden shift that she shows the tangled fear she'd tucked away for a moment. The question is genuine and – like her many nights moonlighting bars – she is tempted to bare her soul to a stranger. "Because I'm a Branwen," she says, eyes deadened. Scowling as if the name is a profane. "And even a terrible mother wouldn't wish that name on her daughter."
When she leaves the room, Yang rises from behind the couch. She doesn't focus on anything. She looks bewildered, pained.
Qrow comes down the steps and they look at him. He looks like how she feels. "I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were expecting," he says.
Yang clutches the backrest of the sofa. "I don't know what I was expecting."
Qrow gives her a worried look. "Maybe… maybe it's better that way."
He wanders into the kitchen, leaving them alone.
Jaune doesn't hold Yang. Instead, he fishes her gauntlets from the duffel bag, takes her by the hand, and pulls her outside.

She sets fire to a dead tree. The blast of Ember Celica ripples through the woods, scatters wildlife, shakes the canopy, and rustles the owls awake. She doesn't care. The blowback from her gauntlets as it makes contact with the deadwood is cathartic. Reflective of what she's feeling inside.
But it isn't anger.
"What does she even… Ugh!" Another blast, sending out a spent shell, light casting over her cheek and hair with accompanying heat. "I don't get it!"
She breathes in and out. Blinks moisture into her eyes. She's been doing the very opposite of crying and drying the liquid in her sockets. She's starting to feel dizzy. She slumps back onto a rock Jaune is sitting on, using his shoulder as a backrest. "I'm not… mad at her. I'm confused. And I'm mad that I'm confused. Does that make sense?"
"About as much sense as she was making," he says with a sarcastic smile.
She's trying to smile back. Even a little one might do but her lips down-curl. Her frown tightens and she sighs into the open sky. "I wanted to give her a chance," she says. "Maybe see where this goes but… now that I know she won't even try? How am I supposed to process this? Do I just do what she wants and not try either?"
He plucks a twig from a dead branch, snapping its length into little pieces. "Do you even want to do that? I mean, if leaving things as they are isn't what you want, then ideally how would you like all this to end?"
She takes half of the twig – snapping it between them. She picks it apart too.
An answer doesn't come.
They gather the tiny bits of branch and bunch it into Jaune's hands. Yang pulls out a fire dust shell from her gauntlet and cracks it open over them. Red particles filter over and into the loose wood bits. He spools them into a ball and his semblance surges over his arm.
His muscles tighten when he approaches the dead tree. It's barely as tall as he is now. His arm pulls back. The chunks in his palm ignite. He throws them like a man-propelled buckshot, scattering burning holes through it.
Even charred, the thing has dangerous embers dancing off its broken pieces.
"We should put this out," she says.
"Mm!" He kicks it down, unrooting it. Then he hoists it up. "Got another good punch in ya'?"
"I've got a few, yeah, but I'll save the rest for later. I only need one for this."
He crouches low, prepping to toss. "Ready?" he asks.
"Pull!" she shouts.
He tosses it into the air, scattering the scent of ash and char, and she swings her fist into it. The sheer force of the blow consumes the flame as it rockets and splinters into a tall rock.
"Y'know what?" she says. "If it's taking me this long to even answer, maybe this isn't what I want."
"So what now, chief?"
She snorts. "Don't give me ideas. Anyway, I say we take the aggressive approach. We got them a present, I say we break it out instead of handing them the box. Invite them to try it with us."
Jaune turns to the house where they left the duffel bag. He winces. "Are you sure about this?"
"I don't see an elegant solution. And it's probably stupid, yeah, but stupid has worked for us so far."
"Really? How exactly has it worked for us so far?"
"In what universe do hickeys stop two primed teenagers from having sex?"
"Ours, apparently…"
"Gets the tension out. Would be genius if I didn't find it by accident."
"Speaking of which…"
He comes up behind her and pushes her hair off her shoulder, exposing her neck.
"What are you – Ah!" she gasps when he bites her neck. Her aura lowers on instinct, letting him mark her.
He pulls away and wipes her dry with a handkerchief. "You taste like saltwater and ash."
She rubs her neck as the pain subsides rapidly. "We should bathe when we get back. What was that for anyway?"
"Revenge, mostly. Feeling petty."
"On me?"
"Your mom."
"Heh, yeah, she's gonna ask questions or implode trying not to. Actually, since we're getting shiners, we should get ones to match."
He doesn't protest but he's not happy about it. With a sigh he leans down but she's already jumped up to latch onto him.
She bites down so hard that he swears that she was actually trying to eat him. He'd be more okay with it if she didn't keep trying to one-up herself.

Dinner, somehow, is always pleasant. True to Qrow's word, Tai comes in completely sober. Jaune chalks it up to having a very useful semblance.
Tai is a chill dad. He nudges Yang when he sees the hickey, even when Qrow refuses to make eye contact with Jaune and Raven squints while warring with herself to say something but won't. Tai reintroduces himself and sits next to Jaune to strike up a conversation with him.
It takes minutes for Tai to fish out that Jaune has seven sisters, that he met Yang by throwing up on her boots, and that he used to have a crush on Ruby. The last bit comes as a surprise to everyone but Tai who pats himself on the back for having incredible girls in the family.
Jaune finds out that Tai is very much like Yang. Despite closing himself off for a good chunk of her childhood, he's clearly had a great influence on her disposition. Father and daughter joke and jab at each other, laugh just as loudly, crack the same kind of jokes (he tries not to think of them as mom jokes when he looks at his girilfriend).
Jaune eventually gets to tell the story of how his dad blew up a dust shop during his third year in Beacon. Just a mishap with a loose dust feeder, a weapon he didn't know how to use, and a particularly handsy bully. By the end, Raven cheers when she wins the bet. Apolian Arc punched a cop. Qrow bet that he punched a civilian.
They're unwinding in the living room when Jaune's eying the wall of photos. Summer's only in a handful of the group shots. Qrow explains that she insisted on being the photographer and didn't like being in photos herself. It's why she has the hood. It's comforting when she can pretend to be hiding.
She sounds like Ruby.
"I just noticed," Jaune says to Yang, "your mom's smiling in every photo. Qrow's the only one who occasionally doesn't."
"It was a different time," she says. "Qrow told me that she was cheery and crass. Would even crack a joke or two whenever she found the time to stop training and be a teenager."
"I'll be honest, it's still weird seeing her smile so much. I came in here expecting a variation of Glynda Goodwitch, not Qrow Branwen. Speaking of which," he glances back at the adults huddled laughing by the sofa, "we should probably break out the gift."
"Speaking of speaking of things," she rubs the hickey on her neck, "it still stings."
"Oh, sorry. Let me heal it."
She pushes his hands away. "No, I –" Her eyes widen. Pressing two digits into the bruised flesh, she feels the ache but doesn't hate it. "Okay, heal me quick before this turns into a fetish!"
Warmth pools out of his palms.
"Could you not make out in full view of her family?" Qrow calls from across the room, and they realize they're leaned a little too close.
"We weren't gonna!" Jaune calls out.
Yang rolls her eyes cause she's comfortable with them coming to their own conclusions about her relationship but Jaune's stint with Tai made him want to make a good impression. It was already easy enough what with Tai admitting that as long as Yang chose and continues to choose him, then he'll rest easy knowing she's in good hands, but Jaune wants to pile on the goodwill.
Those thoughts take a backseat when Yang reaches for the duffel bag by the coffee table. Goodwill be damned.
It's time.
Yang parts a few clothes and a hollowed-out cushion for their scrolls to fish out a crystalline bottle. "We wanted to hand this off in the box but we figured we might as well crack it open tonight."
With the way they're all staring at the bottle, it's clear they recognize it.
Qrow roars with laughter. "Ha! Diadem, the dirtiest fucking drink on the planet!" He comes up to it and holds the bottle aloft, fingers running over the bumpy, crystalline surface. "Ah, look at it. All prettied up for the upper class. Diadem used to be homemade and brewed in a shack. Used to be so strong that you could feel nothing for hours."
"'Course, the stuff's a little better refined nowadays. You used to taste fire dust in it too cause their shoddy furnaces were held together by spit and prayers. But look at it! Pricks like Jacques fucking Schnee or that Lucius ass-end-of-an-ass Merrigold would down this like it's water, having no idea that they're chugging the equivalent of desert moonshine."
Tai licks his lips and it almost feels like a bad idea before he shoots up from his seat. "I'll get the shot glasses!" he announces.
Raven is the only one not smiling. She's suspicious, but the minute the drink touches her lips and she's made wide awake, she melts into the same stupor as everyone else.
-0-
Yang barely registers what their plan was supposed to be. Loosening Raven's lips with the stiffest drink since frozen stalactites seemed a half-baked plan at best, but they didn't plan passed that. They might have been able to salvage it if they didn't take many drinks themselves.
Jaune took exactly one and he's already left her alone to start an intimate relationship with the toilet.
He did, however, get the ball rolling about last names for some reason. He might have explained why to her but she can't remember.
"They'll lose sleep over a friend who's had a bad day," Raven says with a snarl that isn't sincere so much as it appears to be her permanent tipsy-face. "Worrying up and down but will leave you alone after a smile cause that's all they need to calm their nerves. Their hearts are too kind…"
"Who…?" Yang slurs, struggles to think of the rest of the sentence, then starts over. "Who… who are you talking about?"
Raven scrunches her nose. "The Roses," she answers.
Yang buries her head in her hands and curls into her seat. "No… I don't wanna hear about Uncle Qrow's god-damn garden again…"
Qrow, sporting alcohol like one does water, kicks back beside her. There's something in his eye though. The alcohol is getting to him. "We're talking about the Rose half of the family. Y'know, Summer and Ruby?"
"Hm?" She squints. "Oh yeah… Ruby's a worrywart."
"Qrow!" Tai calls from beside Raven, looping an arm around her. "What's a Xiao Long like then?"
"They're all fucking crazy," he jabs. Yang and Tai simultaneously pretend to be hurt. "But! I've found that the more obnoxious they seem on the outside, the more worth you'll find underneath."
Raven leans into Tai and stares at Yang's feet curled up on the cushion. It's the closest she'll get to meeting her eyes. "They can be in your face," Raven says, "deftly abrasive, louder than foghorns, and wilder than ursa! But they're steadfast partners…" She looks up at Tai who has a half-lidded gawk to him that's like he's falling in love with her again. "Painfully loyal… and… dangerously persistent."
Yang feels a heat roll over her side. She leans into it until she realizes that Jaune's slid beside her and pulling her in by the waist. "She's right, y'know?" Jaune tells her quietly. "You never did listen when I asked you not to pursue me and, yet, here we are. You never did know when to quit but I'm glad you never quit on me."
She wants to return the sentiment somehow but words don't form and she's making faces that she worries he'll misunderstand. She's just mad at herself for not finding words. "F-fuck… That was a human sentence you just made. Why aren't you drinking?" she says instead, pushing an empty shot glass to his lips.
"No thanks. Diadem will literally kill me. I felt like I was throwing up my own organs. I swear I felt my lungs pull up into my throat. I am not touching that decanter ever again." He turns to Qrow who is squinting at them as if they're all out of focus. "Oh, shit, sorry, Qrow," Jaune says. Cause the man is sat alone in front of two couples.
Jaune tries not to wince when Qrow downs a shot and his eyes go glassy.
He is sat slumped at the last corner of the large U-shaped sofa. His scroll, set neatly below him on the coffee table, flashes over his gawk face as he leans into it. His hands are beside him, palms pointing upwards while his fingers twitch like roots animating in intervals. His slack jaw regards them with his deep gaunt, eyes meeting every face before he points his head to the ceiling as he falls back into the seat. Seems he's not quite as adept with so many drinks in him. Or maybe Diadem is a weakness.
He lets each eye blink individually before he announces, "I'm dating again!"
Everyone sits up. Okay, only kind of. They lean out but can't peel off the sofa. Except for Jaune who is sober. "Since when do you have time to date?" he asks.
"I don't," he chuckles, shaking his head as he comes back to his senses. "I flirt while on the job. Closest thing either of us will get to a date at this point."
Yang mumbles something.
Jaune strains his ears to hear her. Maybe the ringing from earlier hasn't stopped. "What was that? I'm sitting right next to you and even I couldn't hear you."
She pulls up before falling sideways onto Jaune's shoulder. "Who!?" she calls out to the room cause she doesn't know where Qrow is. Her eyes are still closed.
Qrow grins. "Winter… Schnee."
At first, when he starts talking about a mission they had together in Mistral, they think he's going to segway into a conquest. But he doesn't. He starts talking about how he and Winter shared in the fact that they both had a responsibility they shirked for duty. To protect the world their loved ones live in, they've chosen to abandon having lives of their own.
No one calls him out for clearly being drunk out of his mind nor for opening up.
He's got an anthology of moments with Winter. And each time he finishes a story, they're surprised whenever it doesn't end in heat. One time they do end it in a kiss, but it was on the cheek. She'd done it comfort him but they both knew it was hollow. It was an appreciated gesture, but it wasn't something that could help. They aren't wired to let something like that heal any kind of wound.
Winter doesn't know what it's like to have a delicate heart anymore and the idea of quiet comforts like a hug or a kiss feels so… unsubstantial to them both. They either needed more or that wasn't the kind of comfort they needed. Realizing this is why they started dating.
The stories are nicer then. They leave a movie theater ten minutes in when they realize that sitting around to watch actors pretend to be heroes isn't for them. They instead find a quiet corner in a bar but they don't drink. They talk and he jokes and she's smiling and they kiss and…
Raven is curled up into Tai now, staring at her brother with a look that can only be pride.
Jaune is smiling sleepily at him. Yang nestles into his chest as they scoop together on the sofa's corner.
Qrow gets up, scroll in hand, and leaves the room to call Winter.
Tai and Jaune fall asleep.
Yang catches Raven staring but is so out of it that she isn't sure if Raven caught her staring instead. The quiet makes the crickets fill the spaces beside something crackling outside.
"What are Branwens like?" Yang asks.
Raven squints, pulling herself out of her dreariness. "…What?"
"If a Rose cares too much but loves unconditionally, and a Xiao Long is a dependable but gets in your face, then what is a Branwen?"
She huddles into Tai, looking vulnerable. "We…" Her eyes narrow at the floor and she hisses quietly to herself. "I…"
A pang of empathy makes her sit up. "Mom…" she says consciously.
Raven stares at her. Yang can't tell if she's touched or just shocked, but when her eyes draw away and she clutches at Tai's shirt, words pour shaking out of her lips. "Branwens… are a curse." Something awful crawls into her cheeks, her features squeezing together so her few wrinkles cast shadows. There's a pain there that almost looks familiar, as if she'd had this look about her forever but only now is Yang seeing it for what it is. And whatever that pain is, it's old. Maybe even older than she is.
Raven whispers something to Tai before getting up. Halfway up the steps, she looks at Yang and Jaune before saying, "You should take him to bed. I don't care what you do with him but I'm sure he'll appreciate a warm mattress over a sofa."
"That's very considerate of you," Yang says as she eases Jaune's arm over her shoulder. "Thanks."
Raven blushes, deeper than the alcohol might, as she marches back up the steps. "Don't get used to it," she says, not meaning it.
Jaune sleepily wakes up with a good shake. "Ugh, babe, could ya' not?"
"Pfft! Since when do you call me babe?"
"In my head, mostly. Giving you a pet name will actively worsen my experience. You've got enough ammunition to tease me with."
"I'll fish them out of you yet. Pick up your feet a little. I'm taking you to bed."
"Please, no," he says, pretending to resist. "I'm still tender…"
She rolls her eyes. Even in a drowsy state, he still finds time mess around. "Don't cooperate and I'll sling you over my shoulder."
He scoffs playfully. "As if a free ride is gonna stop me."
Her eyes narrow. "I'm really going to do it."
"Whoa, whoa! Hey, I'll do it…" He yawns. "See?" His shin hits the coffee table and he stumbles.
Yang grabs him and leads him by the arm.
Tai stirs when they pass him by. "Honey?"
"Go to bed, Dad."
"Good night, Mr. Xiao Long."
"Please," Tai grins, "call me Tai."
Jaune squints. "Yeah, I'm not doing that."
"You're not –" Yang starts. "Oh, hey, look at us. Still in sync!"
"I think there just isn't a universe where I call your dad Tai." His nose scrunches up. "Yup, even sounds weird saying it out loud."
-0-
Yang's room is as she remembers it. Only, for once, it's completely tidy. She always had a habit of leaving a little mess somewhere. Sometimes it was hidden, like in a drawer or a corner under her desk, but not this time. Her dad (or maybe Qrow) keeps it cleaner than she ever would have.
Even her strung-up photos along the ceiling are still there. Dates and names and faces she thought would be her whole world. Only now she has a new circle of friends.
"This feels like a room for a different person," she says to Jaune after she's laid him in her bed. Her comforter is freshly pressed and still warm. "Like I'm looking at old me through a lens."
Jaune's eyes are still closed but he reaches for her hand over the sheets and says, "Or maybe this is the version of you your dad remembers. How different are you now from back then?"
"Not a lot, I think. I mean, we're only over a year apart," she spies a photo of her and Ruby glistening in the moonlight. It's of her last day in Signal. It was Ruby's last day too, apparently. "Or maybe I just haven't noticed." She shoots him a look and he can feel her stare enough to crack an eye open. "Comparing me now to when we met. Was I different?"
He shuts his eyes again, but he finds her hand and tugs once. Yang willfully falls onto the mattress next to him. "Hm… well you used to have anger issues in the ring. Even Ms. Goodwitch is starting to notice how you've mellowed out."
"Heh, I guess I have you to thank for that."
He places a hand over her face. He's still not opening his eyes but his nose scrunches up again. "No you don't."
She moves his hand off her face. "Eh?"
"That's all you, Yang. You made that change. If I helped at all, our friends did just as much."
Her lip tilts. "I was trying to flirt."
"I know but… we can't about this. Part of me still worries we'll do that stupid couple thing and forget we have friends."
"Hey, we've been good so far, I think… Look, we can talk to them and figure things out."
"Yeah, compromises."
"Yeah!" She curls into his arm. "But not tonight, please… I've enough things to worry about right here."
"Right… Okay, big picture later." He kisses her forehead. "Now sleep. We've had a day…"
"Yeah, a day…"
She gets comfortable under the sheets and on his shoulder for exactly a minute before she remembers something. "Fuck…" she whispers as she pulls out.
"What is it?"
"Forgot the duffel. I'll go get it and be back in a minute."
"Leave it, Yang. Come back to bed."
"Not taking any chances without our scrolls. Ruby might call us." She's already at the door. "Just a minute, I swear."
She finds her dad slumped against the railing that overlooks the living room. Steam billows hazily off his skin and through his jacket, his semblance burning away the alcohol. The area smells thinly like Diadem but mostly of water vapor. Yang's nose twitches at the familiar scent.
He's blinking a lot, head shaking.
"Dad?"
He turns in a start. Breaths pass through him in labored chunks, chest heaving. His eyes are puffy. Fingers twitch and his eyes steal glances at her as he turns away. There's a want – need – to reach out but she can tell that he doesn't think he's worthy of it.
So, she crashes into his back and hugs him.
A palm runs down his face. "I'm so… so sorry, honey," he says.
He tucks his arms into his chest so she can hold all of him. His hands clutch over her encircled wrists. "Dad… Dad it's okay. You were in a rough spot…"
"That doesn't matter… I'm still your father. You needed a parent and you ended up having to be one for Ruby. I… I hate myself everyday thinking about how you didn't have anyone… I… I should have… I'm so sorry…"
She knows telling him that he didn't do anything wrong or that he didn't have any control over himself would only be excuses upon excuses, perhaps only a handful compared to the thousands he'd piled for himself over the years. He knew he did wrong, and none of her strength coming out the other end of it is going to change that.
So, instead, she shifts to his front and pulls up his head. She wraps her arms around his neck. "I don't care about any of that anymore… I already forgive you. I did a long, long time ago."
She feels his tears running down her neck. Then she realizes that some of them are hers.
-0-
Jaune winces. He's been up for over an hour now. Yang slipped into bed with him but she'd been shaking and sniffling. He could tell that she'd been crying but the tears had dried and she'd been fighting off all that was left of whatever it was in his arms. Now she's sleeping soundly while he's been trying to piece together what happened on his own whilst constructing a speech in case it's Raven's fault.
Finally, he settles with getting up and loosening his nerves before really doing anything. Yang groans from the missing warmth as he stumbles out, scroll in hand.
"No new messages…" he mutters. "I hope you're alright, Rubes."
Pushing the door open, he notices an orange glow coming from downstairs. Over the railing, there's nothing below but darkness and moonlight through the windows. Even then, dark shadows waft passed the moon, clawing darkness across the floor.
"Strong, windy clouds tonight… It didn't look like it was gonna rain earlier."
The smell of ash filters into the air. "Ick… Wait."
He's awake now as he stumbles down the steps. The shadows in the window are moving too rapidly for any passing cloud. That's smog, and it clears passed the window for a moment long enough to show the orange glow outside.
The forest is on fire.
"Shit!" he howls as he runs back up the steps. Thinking quickly, he sets his scroll to Seven Rapids and blasts the heavy chorus riff at max. Leaving it in the hall, he can already hear everyone else waking up, groans and thuds all.
He busts through Yang's door. She's rubbing her eyes awake. "Jaune, what –"
"Forest fire," he says quickly, pulling out their weapons from the duffel bag.
She shakes awake. "What?"
Ember Celica crashes into her hands when he tosses them at her.
"The forest is on fire!" he says, not even waiting for her as he busts through the door again and leaps over the railing.
He tucks and rolls along the carpet, nearly colliding with a lamp as he slams through the front door into the suffocating smoke.
Heat rolls through the air like he's sitting in a boiling pot. Even his aura flares at the licking flames that whip in the wind, coiling off the trees like infernal tendrils.
Jaune thinks back to the embers they tried to douse. "Did we do this?" He shakes his head. The thought is useless right now.
The fire burns over a host of trees like charred pillars to the darkened sky, but they're all centered ahead. Most the forest is untouched still. They can contain it if they hurry. They can't stop the fire, but they can stop it from growing.
So he speeds towards the outer rim of the roaring flame where the trees are unburnt and pours his semblance into his arms. One enhanced swing fells a tree, then another, and another, but he knows he can't keep it up. He can't cut these down so easily once he's out of juice.
Qrow blows passed him, slicing a tree himself, clad in only his pants and the greatsword in his hands. "I'm guessing you and Yang have the same plan?"
"Cut off its fuel?"
Tai runs by them as sand pours out of his skin in layers. He's using his semblance and earth dust in his palms to cover the dried leaves on the ground. "Fell those quick!" he shouts. "We don't have much time!"
On the other end of the fire, Yang and Raven are busting a row of trees. Yang's fists tighten with every strike, but even if she can split a tree in a single blow, her aura suffers from the blowback. It isn't any better with Raven whose forearms flare with every swing against the sturdy oaks.
"This isn't working!" Raven shouts.
Tai sprints passed them with the familiar glow of Jaune's semblance running over him like a white shell. A layer of sand up to their ankles forms underneath them, burying dry leaves and loose branches. They could really use Jaune's semblance too. Their arms are aching.
"There are people in these woods," Yang says. "We can't let this get any bigger. Vale's never gonna send any help here fast enough without someone getting hurt."
The fire spits pillars of ash and smoke their way by a rogue wind. They turn to shield their eyes. Yang blinks through the haze and sees something in the distant dark of the woods behind them. Glowing red eyes bob rapidly between the trees, charging towards them.
Yang growls. "Ugh, we do not have time for this!" The cylinders in her gauntlets click together as she loads in fresh shells. "Raven, you're clearing the wood better than I can. Keep at it while I cover you."
Raven's hand fall quickly on her shoulder. "No," she says sternly, "this is all pointless. We're destroying our bodies for a cause we've not the strength for."
"I don't care!" Yang hisses. "I'm still doing this. Whether or not you're behind me helping at all won't change that." And with that, she bolts into the dark and the twisting red eyes in the woods collide with her.
Flashes of her gauntlet colliding with grimm flesh light up the yawning dark. Blackened fur rimmed with pale external bone all scorch and smolder with her every blow, a comet to meet the streaks of vicious red eyes.
Raven backs away from the sight, seeing Summer Rose instead.
Jaune comes up behind her and Raven feels a rush of power coursing through her veins. Her pain vanishes. Her strength feels like it's multiplying. Trees fall with ease then, matching rhythm with her daughter as Jaune runs to her side to fell grimm together.
Raven sees Tai in Jaune's place too.
Minutes pass as the fire is choked on all sides but one. Raven sees Qrow and Tai on the other end, making progress. They're exhausted, heaving through labored lungs, and she can feel her own trying to crawl out of her throat.
She dares to glance back at Jaune and Yang. Something looms overhead of them: a single red eye in the canopy. There's no time to parse what it is. Raven's already sprinting over to them.
She cuts a portal mid-sprint and she leaps into it. Her momentum carries through and into the air as she rockets up from the other end of the portal that manifests at Yang's side. Omen surges with dust as she empties the canister in her sheath and swings into the red eye above.
Fire dust surges in a swath against a mass of stone and charred bark. It's a geist amalgamated into solid wall of wood and stone.
Raven swings again, ice dust crashing into it and pushing it up. Again and again and again. Wind, earth, lightning, gravity. The last one splashes a purple glow over the grimm as it slowly floats, all of its form ensconced in a gravity well that tugs it into the sky.
She swings but she's out of dust… And she's falling. Her skin rustles like pinpricks as she starts to shapeshift into a bird, but she stops when Yang zooms passed her. Jaune's semblance is folded over her, making her glow like an ascending meteor as she crashes dead center into the red eye.
With a thunderous crackle, she breaks through and the night sky gleams passed her. She whoops while she's up there against the moon.
Raven falls into Jaune's arms below. His semblance is already working its way to ease the ache but she pushes off of him. "Thank you," she manages behind a heave of her chest, "ha… but the boys aren't done yet. Help them with the fire. They'll need it more."
Jaune nods without hesitating and sprints off towards the remains of the flame.
Yang falls into a controlled descent as Ember Celica slows her momentum with a few blasts. Her arms aren't blasting evenly. They probably still hurt. She lands into a stumble and lets herself fall into a sitting up position. She's breathing a lot.
Raven sits beside her. Somewhere in the distance, the boys are cheering.
"We did it," Yang says.
"You sound surprised," Raven says.
"Cause just like you, I didn't think we could do it either."
Raven lifts a brow. "So why did you keep pushing?"
"To prove to us both that we were wrong."
And Raven laughs, hardy and true till she's tearing up in one eye for a moment. "You really are Summer's daughter," she says. Her smile is infectious.
Yang hides her smile in her knees, huddling them close to her chest. "I'm yours, too."
Raven's mouth thins sadly. "But you shouldn't be."
"I don't think you have a choice."
There's a blue shimmer through the treeline now. The boys are trying to finish this quicker by using ice dust to enclose the largest parts of the fire in pillars of ice. The pale light resembles frosted glass.
"We're pragmatists," Raven says.
"What?"
Raven tilts her head at her. "You asked what the Branwens are. That's it. Pragmatists." Not a curse this time. This is her honest answer.
Yang huddles closer as Raven's gaze turns faraway. She knows what's coming because Raven, in her disheveled shorts and worn shirt, her ragged hair and muddied skin, is vulnerable. Her artifice, the one of strength that championed her tribe, is gone.
"We like to pretend we have room for love," Raven continues. "That's never the case. Never true. My mother and father died at a burning beach while Qrow and I fled with the tribe. Nevermind that our eldest sister died with them, more brilliant than either of us will ever be. It didn't matter that she deserved a life brighter than either us could ever make it. A Branwen is hardwired to protect something bigger than they are. To us, that was always the tribe. The whole of it. Not its members, not its kin, nor the ones we dared to love. Just the tribe. The larger whole."
She sighs slowly, letting her breath catch in the now cold air. "Then Beacon came and Ozpin changed all that. Suddenly the tribe wasn't our greatest responsibility. Ozpin had drilled in us the want to protect the world of all things, and he gave us the means to do just that… I remember being excited to save lives. Plucking civilians from impossible odds and reveling in the praise. Summer and I even seemed like sisters for a while – we were so giddy. Like sisters…"
Yang unfurls when Raven tucks into herself. Yang's hand is warm on her shoulder. "The day Summer died was the day we realized we'd made her a Branwen. That she chose the world over us. Over her daughter." She glances at Qrow slumped against the ice wall. "Over her fiancé."
"It wasn't why I left, mind you. That was different. That was futility on my part. I couldn't save the world from something impossible, not with what Ozpin had us face. The tribe had to be my answer after that. Something I could save. Thought I'd find a little peace in scaling back. Scaling down. It felt like I was regressing but I wasn't like Summer. Didn't have the courage to face insurmountable odds like the compassionate fool she was…"
"Mom…"
"You… don't have to do that. You don't have to call me that. I know it doesn't mean anything."
Yang chuckles. "It means whatever I want it to. And right now, it means this." She squeezes her arm again. She knows it isn't forgiveness – not quite yet – but it's a step in that direction. More than she expects. More than she deserves.
"No room for doubt," Raven says. "You're Tai's alright."
"So, I've got some Rose and Xiao Long in me," Yang says proudly. "Doesn't mean there's any shame in having a part of me still be a Branwen."
Raven's lips thin. "Yang…"
"Hush," she says quickly. "Part of me still wants to save the world but I'm also in it for the thrills. I might not end up like Summer. I might not choose to martyr myself if I know I have people waiting for me. I can be selfish too. We all are. I think… I think there's value in being a part of all three."
"Four," Raven says. "That boy you've tied yourself to. You seem content when you're with him. Comfortable even. If he's involved, you're as much an Arc as you are a Branwen…"
"God…" Yang blushes. "You make sound like I'm married to him already."
"If it comes to that, you have our blessing."
"W-what!? Mom, isn't it a little soon for that?" Yang's shock fizzles at her mother's sad smile. "…Mom?"
Raven's gaze is on the house now. She's tearing up. "It's… it's funny," she says with some difficulty. Not through sobs but grit, almost anger. "I feel like I have everything I dreamed about having. I've got family again, a daughter that might love me, a loyal husband, an honest brother. I've even got a quiet home in the middle of the woods. It already has a rose garden and a dog. All its missing is the white picket fence." Her teeth grinds. Her head shakes in disbelief. "But I have to throw it all away…"
Yang's chest squeezes. "What… what do you mean?"
Raven won't look at her. "By Summer's end, that house will be empty. And it will stay that way until you decide to enter. To come back here." Raven's hand finds Yang's. "Because we – your father, uncle, and I – will be going back to Ozpin. We'll be gone for months doing work for him. And maybe we'll see each other again, but it won't be much and never for long enough."
Yang's skin grows cold and clammy. She doesn't like what she's seeing, the sheer finality in her mother's eyes. Resigned to some inevitability. So this is what it means to be a Branwen. Somehow, she understands but she has coasted along the unknown for long enough.
"What is Ozpin doing, Mom?" She asks. "He sent out Ruby earlier this week and –"
Raven jolts into standing. "What!? He has Ruby!?" Her eyes are white with fear. She doesn't wait for Yang to answer, sprinting back in the direction of the boys. "Qrow! Ozpin has Ruby!"
Yang follows, jogging behind her.
Qrow curses. "No, no, no!" Frantically, he fumbles for his scroll. "This can't be real…" His face is going red with panic.
Tai snatches his scroll from him. "Enough! The both of you!" He breathes. "Enough… If Ruby is with him, then she did so willingly."
"But she… she…!" Qrow stammers.
His hand goes to squeeze his shoulder. "I know…"
"I can't lose another Rose to him," Raven gasps. Her sword is already out, prepared to open another portal. Tai's hand takes her by the wrist.
"And we won't," he assures. "We'll cover every gap and protect her ourselves. Maybe even see her on the field."
Jaune joins Yang's side as the other three huddle together. "What's happening?" he asks her, squeezing her hand. "They mentioned Ruby and I'm more than a little worried right now, I'll be honest."
"I don't completely know either," she says. "But it's larger than we are… Than all of us."
Raven rips open a portal before hugging Tai. She nods to Qrow, and they step into it, leaving Tai behind. With a sigh, he ambles over to Jaune and Yang.
"We should talk."

Tai explains that they all had a job from Ozpin a long time ago. That there was a serial killer and a disgraced Atlesian scientist, and that those two unsavory sorts were only scratching the surface. It was saving-the-world type stuff, and along the way they lost Summer because of it.
It still isn't done. Those two are still at large and there's word of there being more in league with them. That's all he's allowed to say but Tai has – for the past few years – allowed himself to grow complacent since they went underground.
Not anymore. He, Raven, Qrow, and Weiss's sister, Winter, will spend everyday onward tracking them down.
He lets slip that there's whispers of missing huntsmen in Mistral. Yang mentions that Ozpin had Ruby go out to that kingdom to meet someone. Tai tries not to show how much that bothers him.
They won't be seeing each other much from then on, he says. They'll try to keep in touch but they'll be knee deep in places the CCT has no signal in. He doesn't look forward to it but it'd make Summer proud that they're out there doing what needs be done.
The next morning, Yang wakes up alone in bed.
She stumbles down the steps into an empty living room, but then she hears the clamber of porcelain plates in the kitchen. She runs in only to find Jaune at the sink.
Behind him, the dining table has five plates of a warm breakfast. Omelets, tiny sausages, and a minced venison smothered in soy sauce till it's a blackish brown. Three of the plates are half eaten. They were here but left in a rush.
She slides into her seat. The noise of the chair catches Jaune's attention. He drops a letter beside her. Both their names are scrawled onto the poorly folded note.
He sits beside her. "I didn't get to see them myself but I found this and a set of keys." She shows her the worn keys and drops them neatly by her plate. She recognizes them. They're for the house and they aren't spares. One of them even has the word "FRONT" roughly carved into it. It's filled in with golden stencil. She and Ruby did that, back when they were kids.
She opens the letter and reads it aloud. "Sorry. We'll try to be home by tonight. Don't wait. House is yours."
"Not very eloquent," Jaune says after swallowing, "but they were probably in a hurry."
"Eloquent?" Yang laughs. "Where'd you pick that up?"
"Weiss had a few choice words for my poor poetry back in first year. I told you I picked up a few things from her."
He's already finished the sausages on his plate. Yang remembers to eat.
"So, what now?" he asks her. "We house sit for a few days until Ruby shows up?"
Yang shakes her head. "No… that isn't what they mean by the house being ours. They don't actually know when they'll be back. School year might even end before they do."
"That's… a long time."
"It is, but in the meantime," – she wiggles the keys – "we actually own the house."
Jaune frowns. It's deep and it cuts just as well. "That sounds like a parting gift."
Swallowing an omelet, her head falls onto his shoulder. "It is."
Then the door busts open and they hear Qrow slurring in the next room. He's accompanied with another voice, Winter's, as she shoulders him into the kitchen. She's stringing together insults whilst blushing up a storm. They're quiet them when they find Jaune and Yang.
Qrow squints as if unsure of what he's seeing. "Ohhhh," he bellows before whipping his head back. "They're still here!"
"Ahem," Winter says. "Forgive my intrusion. Present company often ends our meetings this way."
"Which is weird," Jaune says, "cause Qrow can walk just fine when he's drunk."
"He can… what?" She shoots Qrow a glare and he gives her that stupid grin of his. He's not even close to sorry. She shoves him off her and blushes against her pale skin. "You're insufferable. Trying to get a rise out of me.."
He hobbles back a step but his grin seems carved into his cheeks. "Heh, nah. I just like being close to you."
Raven peeks into the room then with Tai close behind. Her hesitation lasts only a moment before she hurries in and Yang's already bolted out of her seat to hug her.
"You came back…" Yang says. Her hands reach out grab her dad so they can sandwich her mother between them.
Raven squeezes. "I'm as much a Rose and Xiao Long as you are. I figured the world could wait till we could all say goodbye. At least."
They pull away. Raven's age shows along the harsh circles around her eyes.
"So, this really is goodbye," Yang fathoms, weaving her digits into that of her parents'. "This… doesn't feel real. Everything's happening so quickly and I just got you back and… and…"
Tai pushes strands of her hair behind her ear. "Life's abrupt," he says. "Especially when you become a huntress. You'll often find that your whole world can change in a day. Adapting to that is a skill you have to learn."
Raven's eyes narrow. "But we're not worried. I was scared for you all my life but every time I looked back, you were already over another hurdle." She holds her daughter again. "And just like then, I'll miss you every day."
Yang's grip tightens around her. Like she's hanging off the edge, held on by a thread. She can feel it slipping, digging into her palm. She knows she has to let go but there's a part of her now that's made her an Arc. She's defiant. Foolishly, optimistically, defiant. And it's with that nonchalance that she peels away and suggests, "We're all home. We should have breakfast. Like a family."
Qrow's already sat down and Winter has already eaten most of his venison. Tai insists on sitting next to Jaune again, and Yang huddles the closest she's had in years next to her mother.
Ruby never makes it to Patch. All they get is a nerve-wracking call from her that's more apology than explanation. Qrow tells them she's in a good hands.
They don't tell him that that isn't the point.

It's halfway through their second year that Jaune and Yang step back into their dorm rooms. They'd come two days early since they didn't want to stay in an empty house and an empty apartment didn't feel much better.
Jaune finds Ren and Nora snuggling by a bean bag. (Nora's messing with his hair while he goes through a book on Vacuan flora). Pyrrha isn't home since she's with her family, but Sun is lying on her bed and he greets Jaune with the kind of enthusiasm he needed.
It takes him a while to realize that his smile is forced. "Sun, please tell me there's nothing wrong with you and Pyr."
"What? Oh, no! Everything's fine with us!"
"He's been fussing about something else," Nora chimes in as she twists knots in Ren's hair. "And he won't tell his big sister, Nora, so you know it's gotta be big."
"Uh, I'm a year older than you."
She squints. "Why is everyone older than me!? I know Ruby's sixteen but I'm starting to feel like a toddler here."
"Nora," Ren says, "I'm younger than you."
Nora wraps her arms around his head to squeeze him against her chest whilst clasping tightly over his mouth. "Shh, same age, honey."
Sun turns to Jaune. "What…?"
"Nora made them have the same birthday when they were kids. Flipped a coin on who got to keep theirs. Ren lost." Jaune decides not to mention that it was to simplify a holiday for two survivors in the woods. Less stress on their resources when they buy only one cake a year and have to share it. "But enough about them. What's got you all knackered?"
"Knackered? Who even says that anymore?"
"Ylda Braveheart. Now quit stalling! What's going on, man?"
There's a knock on the door. "Come in!" Ren says. He's already put his book down and is snuggling back into Nora. She and Jaune exchange a look. Something's up.
Yang and Blake walk in. Yang joins Jaune on the bed while Blake crouches by Ren and Nora who both drag her into the bean bag with a yelp. They laugh at her expense, and for a moment it seems like it's just a visit.
Then Weiss and Neptune walk in and stand there in front of them all, locking the door behind them.
There's a thickness in the air. Jaune and Yang are already holding each other for strength. Sun curls into his knees beside them but Jaune won't have that. He reaches over and grabs his shoulder. He shuffles a tiny bit closer in response.
Weiss shuts her eyes, squeezes Neptune's hand, and stands tall. Like a performance demands, she is rigid and neutral, but it's too much and her knees wobble. Neptune catches her and reaches for a nearby chair. He rubs her shoulders after he sits her down and she's starting to breathe evenly.
"Nice and quick," Neptune whispers to her, and it's audible in the relative silence.
Yang and Blake have been standing since she buckled, unsure if they should run over and hug her. She spots them and raises a hand. "Sit, please. This will be easier if I do this without having to cry on something…"
Neptune kisses her head. Her hand finds his massaging her shoulder, and her other balls into a fist. "I'm… leaving team RWBY."
PART 9 – Adaptation
Yang is afraid she's hurting Jaune when she hears the news and tenses up, her fingers closing tightly over his. Little parts of her feel pain, like her pulse is bulging in her veins and stretching out of her skin. Then she realizes that it's her body telling her to go and hold Weiss close. Stop her talking cause it's easy to see how much all of this is hurting her and she's still so painfully afraid that her friends are going to hate her.
Yang bites her lip and leans out. Her hand is suddenly cold. Jaune had let go of it. "Go," he whispers.
She's off the bed and crashes into Weiss just as she's inhaling. Neptune backs away just as Blake runs over to join them.
Weiss stops talking cause she can't at this point. Her arms reach around them both but her nails curl into their backs as her fingers twitch and anything she wants to say is lost in her sobs.
"It's okay," Yang says. "We know you have a good reason."
"We'll still love you," Blake adds. "Doesn't matter if you're here or not. We're still a team."
To Weiss, that all seemed enough to uncoil her fears and breathe relief.

"I have to be his daughter. His heir," Weiss explains when they're all gathered at the empty cafeteria. "I'll have to play his games and do everything I can to keep my integrity and still be me."
Her sister informed her around the time of the boat trip that her father was planning to discredit her and seat her brother as next-in-line. "I know it sounds almost foolish but my plan was always to juggle life as a huntress and as an heiress. To prove that I could follow in my sister's footsteps without needing to make any of her sacrifices." Her hand, the one not holding Neptune's, falls to Myrtenaster resting magnetically at her hip. "Winter gave me so much when she trained me. I wanted to prove to father that none of that was a waste of time. It worked for a while, too. Atlas was abuzz with news on my departure. That I'd taken the strength of the old Schnee vanguard and vowed to marry it with the capitalist empire. That we were still the staunch knights we always were and that our nobility hadn't tarnished that."
"Why can't you just stay?" Nora asks, eyes gleaming like the absent Ruby. "Why does your dad get to take even more from you?"
Weiss smiles placatively at her and wishes Ruby was here too. "Because I've learned a lot in my time here with all of you. I've learned that Remnant will always have enough amazing huntsmen – there's already so many at this table." She eyes them all but stops at Blake. "But I've also learned that there's a lot of good I could be doing. A different kind of good for my people in Atlas. Human and faunus."
Blake gasps. There's a sting in her chest. "I'm… so sorry."
"Don't be. All that time staying up together has given me perspective. The kind I feel is uniquely distinct to a Schnee. I need to use that. Maybe get my brother to see it the same way."
"Will you have help?" Yang asks, locking eyes. "I'm not willing to let you go alone."
Weiss leans into Neptune. "I won't be alone."
"We'll have to keep our relationship secret," Neptune explains, "but I'll be at every function, every gala, every fancy dinner. Dad's a shipping baron so we've already let rumor spread that I'm looking into partnering with the Schnees to get trade into Vacuo."
"In a few months' time we'll be married, too," Weiss adds, giggling in way that's resigned and heartbreaking. "It's hardly the way we wanted it to go but it's how it has to happen so father doesn't marry me off for a business venture. We'd do it today if I was already eighteen."
"Are you sure he won't reject you at the door?" Jaune asks.
"Not when I come in as bargaining chip. I'll flirt my way through a few prospective suitors and he'll see I'm still too useful to throw out." She snuggles into Neptune's side and he wraps an arm around her. "We've spent weeks planning. And though I'm sure things are going to go terribly wrong at some point…"
"…We'll adapt," Neptune finishes.
Even though there's hope here, the moment feels strained. A tension in the air is either like knots in the heart or the tightening of a noose. So Jaune and Yang put on brave faces and stand up.
"This isn't how we should be spending this day together, isn't it?" she asks with a grin.
"It's a going-away party," he says, "so we should have a party. Ren? Join us in the kitchen. Let's bake a cake."
Nora's already on Weiss and Blake. "C'mon! I know a buffet outside of town that sells their raws cheap. I'll even show you two how me and Renny grilled fish! I guarantee that you two princesses won't find anything like that at your fancy dinners."
Blake opens her mouth. "Actually, we–"
"Hush! Mommy's talking."
Neptune and Sun trade looks.
"Should we get the drinks?" Sun asks him. "I know a way into campus we can smuggle alcohol through."
"Actually, just pump me full of sugar. This might be the last time I get to have soda since I'll be spending the next few years getting used to wine."
"Ew!"
"I know!"

When the semester starts, Glynda Goodwitch announces that Ozpin won't be back for a month or so still, so she'll be acting headmistress.
The sister teams are all worried about Ruby but she sends them messages with a few photos that she's on a mission with Ozpin and what looks to be a farmhand. They don't expect to be back for a while and she isn't even allowed to update them but she slips them messages anyway. (She doesn't know how long she can keep up the ruse that she had a spare scroll from before Beacon).
Yang's nerves get the better of her until Jaune convinces Qrow to give them an update. Somehow the photo of Qrow, Raven, Tai, Winter, and Ruby together like the disjointed family they are is a monumental comfort. She makes it her wallpaper. Jaune promises that they'll all get a chance to get in that picture together at some point.
With Goodwitch so busy, it leaves combat class to Professor Port. It's a blessing in disguise since the extra class drains him enough to sleep through most of his own class. He gets worried for a while until everyone gets visibly excited for what is effectively a free period and some students actually get comfortable enough to sit with him on his desk and share real stories for a change. He isn't always telling them this time either.
The teams spend a lot of time on the roof where they're allowed to grill. Jaune, Nora, and Blake make a show of their techniques and Weiss, who is sitting on the sideline, lets the collective aroma of their sizzling platters soak into her skin.
They also take turns teaching Weiss and Neptune how to cook. It'll be useful when they get a place of their own. They hadn't considered an apartment yet, actually.
"Trust me," Yang says, "after what you two are gonna go through, you could use a getaway that's just yours." She shares a meaningful glance with Jaune who blushes, suddenly unable to keep eye contact.
They make that second boat trip with the same crusty boatman. Sun and Blake tie on the number of lobsters.
They spend a night in the apartment, cramped together and drinking till sunrise. (Pyrrha learned to mix drinks with her uncle over the break and Jaune hasn't puked so much in his entire life).
They joyride in Jaune's new Highway Aries and the boatman's Beluga van to the same cabin they went to with Saph and Terra. Joan can drive too, apparently, and they decide that seating her next to the excitable Nora is a recipe for turning the winding country roads into a roller coaster. (Jaune, Yang, Weiss, and Neptune end up trailing behind the van because of it.)
They rent out a thawed ice rink and have their own school dance. (Jaune spent the week teaching Neptune how to lose his second left foot).
And they skip class on Friday to spend their last day together. Ruby even manages to call Weiss and they find out that they might even meet in Atlas for a while. (Jaune and Yang are starting to suspect that Ozpin already knows about the scroll).
In the next morning, Weiss's bed is empty cause she had to go alone in a separate flight. Neptune has to arrive a day later on a separate trip. It's abrupt and even though they all knew it was going to happen, it still feels like it came out of nowhere. The space Weiss leaves behind is palpable.
She manages to send them all one final message with a photo. She's holding Blake's little triangular team flags she made for them during last year's Vytal Festival against the window of the bullhead.
"We'll always be a team."

Jaune cracks an eye open at the sound of clicking on screen . He's in the apartment, in his room, but his door is open halfway. Through the dark he can see Yang and Blake's faces lit against a scroll on the couch. Blake is sleeping on her shoulder.
They set her up with the guest room (Yang's long since migrated all her things into his anyway) and they must've gotten up at some point last night to chat.
He shuffles out of bed, scratching his bare chest and blinking away his drowsiness.
Yang can hear him. "Mornin'… Evening? Morning. It's one-AM."
He peels around the doorframe. "Shouldn't we be quiet?" he says in a hush.
"Nope," she says, not even looking up from her scroll. "Blake said she wanted to wake up to the sound of people so the room feels less empty."
Regardless, he sits on the softly beside her. "Is that why she stayed up so late?"
"She used to wake up early with Weiss. Sometimes she'd fall back asleep when Weiss got her early morning shower, but with her gone she's hoping to sync up with me instead."
"Maybe Ren's more her speed. He gets up early to get breakfast prepped for Nora the rest of the team if she didn't eat it all when we got there."
"Too bad they're not roommates."
"Yeah…"
Blake shuffles. Her ears twitch and there's a smile on her lips.
"She seems comfy," he says, laughing. He can't help but think they've adopted a stray though he won't say it aloud.
Yang's thinking the same thing but keeps her mouth shut too. "She met with Sun and Ilia for brunch yesterday. She came in when they were already talking about him losing Neptune. She felt like an outsider listening in."
"She didn't walk away, did she?"
"No, she sat with them and they talked. Even admitted to how she felt. They tried to make her feel comfortable and Sun had no trouble talking about it, but even they admitted that it feels like she's just a step out of her element. She's going with Pyrrha to meet with them again later tonight."
"I'm guessing she's not particularly enthused?"
Yang nods. Blake stirs but doesn't wake. "She thinks losing Weiss is upsetting everything else in her life. She usually doesn't feel that kind of doubt when talking to them. Pyrrha's doing her best to help on her end, too, but she might need some more outside help to get her out of this funk."
Her scroll buzzes. Jaune instantly recognizes the sender. "Ruby?" His voice is hopeful, almost desperate.
She ruffles his hair. "Don't worry about it. If you start losing your cool, then I will too."
He rolls his eyes with a smile. "Sorry, I just miss her."
"She wanted to talk to you but she's only got enough courage to message her big sister. She's still beating herself up for being gone so long. She's afraid you might hate her."
He fishes his scroll out of his pocket, squeezes his face next to Yang and Blake's, and takes a photo. "Morning…" he types, "…Crater …Face." A moment passes after he sends it.
Yang's scroll is then blasted with exclamation points before a video call starts. Their hearts soar when they hear her whine for the first time in weeks. "Yang…! I wasn't ready!"
It's dark wherever she is, huddled in a closet judging by the hangars swinging above her. Zwei is whining and scratching somewhere in the background.
"Sorry, Sis, but we're a package deal now!" Yang says.
"We miss you," Jaune says, the look of him is anything but teasing.
"I miss you guys, too…" she looks away, head half hunched in shadow. Her expression is unreadable.
There's a shuffling on her end of the call, she looks up, eyes wide, as some light pours into the closet she's in. "Ruby?" a hushed boy's voice says. "Is everything alright?"
Her eyes dart and she gets up in a panic. Jaune and Yang stay quiet as the closet is shut and the scroll spins in the dark for a moment before her face shows up again next to the same farmhand in her photo with Ozpin. "Keep this a secret. Please?" she asks him.
"I… sure. Lips sealed. What are you–?"
"Yang, Jaune," she says quickly. "This is Oscar. He's my, um, partner for the mission I'm on."
"I, oh, uh, hi," Oscar stammers. "I'm Oscar." He slaps his forehead. "Stupid. She already said that…" Ruby giggles.
"Aw, Jaune," Yang nudges him. "He's you, freshman year."
Jaune huffs. "I like to think I was as confident as I was awkward." He gets up. "I'm getting peckish. You want any coffee?"
"The orange juice, please."
"Weak!" Ruby teases through the screen. "Milk is the way to go. Keep up the store-bought pulp and I'll be taller in no time!"
"I prefer oranges freshly squeezed myself," Oscar adds before he shuts himself up. He seems afraid to add to the conversation.
"They are freshly squeezed though," Yang says. "Right, Jaune?"
"If two days ago counts as fresh, then yeah. Reminds me of home."
Yang sniffs the air. "Are you cooking tuna and eggs again?"
"What? Clove didn't have much fish and poultry. We had beef, pork, and way too many vegetables."
"It's one-A.M.!"
"And we're out of snacks. Now do you want some of this or am I gonna split it with Blake?"
Blake rolls her cheek up the backrest to look at Jaune. The smell probably woke her. "Mm… You'll have no objection from me."
"He was a farmer?" Yang hears Oscar ask Ruby. "I thought he was a huntsman."
"Huntsman-in-training," Ruby clarifies for him. "He grew up in a farm. I don't think that counts as a farmer but he used to herd cows. Even had this brief stint when he was ten where he'd run with the farm dog and bark at the cows to help wrangle the cattle."
"Pfft!" Yang and Blake snicker. "What?"
"What are you laughing at?" Jaune asks from the kitchenette, stood in the lowlight.
"Nothing!" Yang calls back. "Feeling better, Oscar?"
"Oh. You noticed?"
"It's okay. Meeting new people can be scary. Can't have been any easier with Ruby."
"Actually, she could barely look me in the eye." Ruby bumps him but can't deny it. Oscar stays smug. "Ha ha… Had to ease into meeting her. She caught me in the middle of work and she scared me so much that I almost fell off the hayloft with the way she squeaked her greeting. I thought a mouse got in the feed again."
"Oscar!" Ruby whines. "I'm putting you through the ringer for this."
He looks scared. "Uh… mercy?"
They spend the some of that morning together. Ruby builds confidence enough to promise to make another call if Oscar can keep covering for her. They also find out Ruby is training Oscar and Yang couldn't be more proud.
They're somewhere remote and secret so Ozpin isn't taking chances with the security breach but Ruby hopes that a closet is enough to be inconspicuous. She still can't tell them why she's there but she will when they arrive.
They. As in both of them. Oscar is coming to Beacon. It should be exciting, even just a little bit. It's not going to fill the gap Weiss left behind but it means less quiet. Plus, Penny is with them and she might come too. But Yang picks up the sadness in Ruby's eyes whenever Oscar asks about Beacon. There's something wrong.
When Oscar goes off to distract Ozpin and Jaune takes Blake to the convenience store, Yang asks, "Sis, what's going on that you're not telling me?"
Ruby chews her lip. "I can't say," she says for the umpteenth time, but Yang can feel the weight of it now that it's coming out of her mouth and not through text on a screen. Somehow, that makes it harder to let it go.
"I'm scared for you," Yang admits, "I'm worried that something else irreversible is coming and…" No, she tells herself. She can't put this on Ruby. "It's okay. I trust you. I'm worried but I trust you and before you say anything, nothing you say will break that trust."
Ruby curls closer to the scroll, like she wants to hug her. "Thank you…" she whispers.
"Just come home safe…"
"I love you, Yang."
"I love you, too, Sis."

The dorm room doesn't have the comforts it used to. Yang almost feels ashamed for leaving it behind half the time but Blake tells her that it isn't something she should worry about. She always made time, even if her memories seem like a blur of blonde hair and blue eyes. It doesn't mean she valued her time with them any less.
No one can blame her for falling in love.
Still, with Blake snoozing under some double-wide bedding across the room, Yang feels alone in the room.
She sits up and she hears a startle somewhere. She realizes the silhouette she thought was Blake has been just a mess of pillows. (Blake pulled her and Weiss's beds together to get comfortable. Didn't work. All she's got now is more room to feel cold in. They still miss her).
Another hushed sound reaches her. She gets up and walks around but she stops when she spots Blake sitting on the floor against the wall. Her ears are twitching.
"What's happening?" Yang asks.
"I can hear Goodwitch in the JNPR dorm."
Yang shuffles closer. She can hear the faint tap of the headmistress's heels but nothing more. "What is she saying? Are they in trouble?"
"I thought so at first, but no. It's something about a transfer."
"A transfer? Like a student?"
"I don't know. I'll keep listening."
Yang wants to go back to bed and grab her scroll. Jaune could answer her if she asked. She bites her lip.
"There's someone else," Blake says. Yang's limbs stiffen again. "She sounds familiar but I could be wrong. She's talking about… Moving furniture?" She peels off the wall. "Maybe I shouldn't be listening in."
Yang realizes that she's probably working herself up over nothing too. "Maybe, but it got you out of bed at least." She laughs. "I've been worrying myself ragged about this team, but unlike the other two, you're actually here." Arms wrap around Blake's thinner shoulders. "I hope you aren't blaming yourself for all of this."
"I am but I know it's stupid," she admits. "Weiss having an epiphany was bound to happen anyway. And her father would have forced her to leave whether we turned out to be friends or not. But there's always that little side of me scraping at the back of my head. I'm so painfully aware that it's there that I could almost reach out and strangle it."
"Pfft! You sound like Weiss."
"Heh, well we'd spent over a year together. Some things were bound to rub off on each of us. In fact," she looks at Yang meaningfully, "you didn't explode once during that whole talk about Weiss's dad. Jaune have anything to do with that? You've been minding your temper."
She rubs the back of her head. "No, not entirely. I mean, we've helped each other along but we can't give each other all the credit. I've mellowed out cause we lost at Vytal and I crashed at a bar. Cause I came home a mess and you girls set me straight. I won't say that solved it completely. I think I gave myself enough time to ease out of my anger issues over the summer and finding Jaune and ending up in his apartment gave me places to feel normal and happy for a change." She's blushing now, can't help the heat rolling tight circles in her cheeks. "Did I ever tell you about that? No… I don't think I've told anyone. Being in that apartment let me glimpse a life of being a civilian. Not a huntress-to-be, just a girl living in the city she swears she'll die in. It felt simpler, domestic. And I kind of liked that. I kind of really, really liked that."
"I envy that," Blake says with a knowing smile lying sideways on her knees. "Not the civie life but the happiness. I'm glad you found someone. Honestly, it's kind of crazy you two aren't completely official yet."
"I, uh, I think we are? I mean, it's not like we've talked about it again since all this craziness happened but we've said the three-word thing, named our kids, we own a house together and –"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What? Rewind there for a second."
"To which part?"
"I don't know, all of it?"
Yang shrugs and that is equal parts everything so like her and everything that's frustrating. "I don't know. They all just kind of… happened?"
"How do you just happen to own a house now?"
"A couple birds left it on my dining table and flew out the open door."
Blake squints. "I… I can't tell if you're joking."
Yang grins.
Blake's ear twitches to the faint sound of a door closing. "JNPR…" she mouths as she hears it. "…moving out?"
-0-
Blake thinks she heard it wrong. Yang tries to tell herself they could be misunderstanding something but when they meet with JNPR, they don't mention a thing. Jaune and Pyrrha are all smiles, whilst Ren is keeping Nora from any more antics. Nothing's changed.
It eats up at Yang more than she's willing to admit but Blake doesn't need to be told in order to notice her best friend writhing inside of herself.
On occasion she can see Jaune stealing glances at Yang. He's noticed that something's off too. Sure, Yang is keeping it close to her chest, but she isn't loose in the way she usually is. And even though her being a little more guarded might make sense given recent events, Jaune's been with her long enough to notice that she's been easing back into her old self. The regression should be obvious.
Blake nudges him at the end of Port's class. "Talk to her," she says.
He nods, a determined look to him. "I was gonna wait till she was ready. I guess I have to act this time."
Blake smiles. "Just like you, she'll need a nudge sometimes."
Jaune jogs over to Yang as she rolls her eyes at something Nora says. She should be laughing instead. His eyes narrow.
"Yang."
"Oh! Hey, sorry, I thought you were with Blake and Pyrrha. Did you need something?"
His hand clasp over hers and people around them pull away and snicker. He takes her hand and pulls her to the wall and out of the way. "Don't think I haven't noticed you worrying about something. What's wrong?"
Normally she'd come out and say it. Even before they got this close. Before they were together. She isn't the kind of girl that lets these things lie. But she's lost so much in the past few weeks and she's feeling more and more vulnerable. More and more fatigued.
And this? What she's worried about? Hushed whispers in the night that might ultimately mean nothing? Half of her thinks it's fears she's digging up for herself to pile on the already rich avalanche of things she has to deal with. Another hates herself for doubting him, and that she's ashamed to reveal she doubted him at all.
But they were supposed to be able to talk about anything, right?
Her mouth opens.
She remembers her mother. She'd looked so stoic when she said goodbye, daring not to fall apart and swallowing her fears. With a sigh, she lets it go.
"It's nothing," she says with an easy sigh. "I'll tell you about it later if you're so curious but I'd like to stop worrying about nothing and focus on the things that actually need my attention."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Now I'm hungry."
"We still have class."
She takes his hand. "I don't care. Your girlfriend needs a pick-me-up."

Yang walks back into the dorm with a spring in her step. "Evenin'," she greets Blake who's lounging on the bed.
"Had a good night, I see? He not kissing you goodbye at the door?"
"We parted ways earlier. Said he had an errand to run."
Blake stares at her with a smile. Yang returns it before going back to her scroll. Blake's nose scrunches in confusion. "Well?" Blake asks.
"Huh?"
"What did he tell you?"
Yang winks. "Sweet nothings if that's what you're asking."
Blake's face goes through a series of emotion. "Yeah. Good. Great. Perfect." She sits up as her ears sharpen. "But what about last night? With the whispering and all that?"
"Oh! I, uh, I didn't ask about it."
Blake slips out of bed. "Okay, I've had it. Waited all this time to find out so let's just go over there and ask."
"Right. Sure." Yang picks up after her and doesn't bother to put her school shoes back on.
Blake stops just as she exits the door. Across from them is the JNPR dorm and the door is ajar. She twists back to Yang. "Was that open when you passed it by?"
"I didn't notice."
They approach the door and feel a draft coming through. The door swings to the side as they enter and the thud against the wall is the only sound.
The JNPR dorm is empty. Even the blinds have been stripped away and one of the windows is cracked open.
A hole opens in Yang's stomach. Confusion, mostly. Anger, even if she can't place it. She doesn't know what's happening.
Blake's hands are sweating too when they reach for hers. "Your scroll is buzzing," she says and they run back to their room.
Yang has a message from Jaune.
'are you decent?' it reads.
'uh…. Yeah?' she replies after a cursory glance at her uniform.
'perfect'
Yang stares at the word. His scroll didn't even get to auto-punctuate it. She's already typing another message. Where are you right now? I was at your dorm and it's empty – She stops typing when they hear a grunt and a thud.
Blake's ears perk up. "Nora?"
Something breaks, like snapping wood, then Yang can hear it too.
"Hah!" Nora shouts. The thud after shakes something in their room. "Hah!" Another shudder, louder and resonant. "Hng…!" They can feel the way she's inhaling. "Hah!" Then their wall shakes.
"Hah!" Then a chunk of the wall pops out and swings aside like a portal door. They can see Nora behind the hole. She's in the next dorm room. They transferred next door instead of across the hall.
Nora peeks in with a wide grin, the light behind her shining over her features like a beacon. She pulls away and her hammer carves down into the hole till its roughly the shape of her silhouette. She kicks away the loose boards and cement around her and stomps into the room.
"Evenin' roomies!" she announces with gusto and caked in dust.
Jaune slips passed her in shorts and a worn shirt, pillow under his arm and eyes half awake. He walks up to Yang and takes her hand. "Sleepy?" he asks.
She realizes she's exhausted. Relief lets her body feel its fatigue. "Yeah…"
He pulls her to bed and they fall in together. She's confused but doesn't focus on it.
"What is happening?" Blake asks Ren as he comes in with Pyrrha in tow. (Who has already apologized but her smile doesn't slip away even once).
"Jaune said that it was starting to get a little quiet here in your dorm," Ren explains. "So, we hatched an idea to trade rooms with your neighbor's. Team ASHE took a room on a different floor instead of taking ours."
"Miss Goodwitch was very accommodating," Pyrrha says. "Went so far as to levitate most of our things from one room to another."
"She almost said no," Jaune says with a yawn, "but when I explained why we were doing it, she just sighed and drew up the permit."
"You need a permit to switch dorms?" Blake asked. "Wait, there's a permit for that?"
Nora hoists the hammer back onto her shoulder. "Permit's not for the dorm. It's for breaking down the wall."
Blake can't help but a feel a tingle under her skin, and it rolls into heat when Pyrrha and Ren squeeze her between them.
The night draws down and they got rid of the bits of dust and talk about how they're supposed to tear the down the wall. They'll put up two beams they'll have to pay for themselves but the rest of the wall can go away and there will be nothing between the two rooms in a few days.
And when they're all cleaned up (and splitting two bathrooms between six people), they push the four RWBY beds together so they can crawl under the collective sheets. In the middle, Yang sees Blake shiver happily between Ren and Nora, calmer than she has been in weeks.
Nestled against the curve of Jaune's neck, she nudges him. "Thank you for this," she whispers.
"It wasn't all me," he murmurs.
She flicks his forehead. "You're allowed to take credit for the idea, at least. Besides, I feel like I should reward you somehow."
"Fine," he grumbles but his smile doesn't sell it. "As for the reward, I'd ask about the rent but I think we should stay out and keep the bill thin this month. I don't think I can meet the payment this time if it gets any bigger with electric and water."
Yang chuckles. "Hey, you asked for the heavy down payment so you could sidestep the interest. That car is a money sink and you should've seen this one coming." He whines and she kisses his nose, making him whine some more. "Still, I'll still have to find a way to thank you."
"Missionary always works for Sun," Pyrrha chimes in from behind her.
Jaune and Yang's eyes go wide.
"What?" Pyrrha asks as they stare at her. "Too vanilla?"
Yang squeezes a pillow to her own face. "Pyrrha!"
"What? Oh! Sorry. I hadn't realized that you… It's just that Sun's been gentlemanly and I tried to get him to talk dirty to spice things up so I ended up having to do it myself and –"
"Uh, Pyr?" Jaune stops her. "That's not it. We, uh, we haven't done it yet."
She tilts her head. "Missionary?"
"Sex," Yang whimpers.
Nora shoots up. "What!?"
Yang shrinks even further. "Are you all awake!?"
Ren turns an open eye behind him and Blake peers sheepishly over the length of his arm. No one looks sorry.
"Ugh…" she groans. "Is it too late to call this a bad idea?"
Pyrrha pulls her away from Jaune and into the collective cuddle of everyone else. "Not on your life, Xiao Long."
She mouths a "help me" to Jaune.
He reaches under his pillow, pulls out his scroll into its camera, and mouths a coy "No," before the shutter snaps.
The photo goes up with the rest of the stringed ones Ruby set up earlier that year. Eventually, they flood it with more memories till the ceiling is lined with their found family gleaming from wall to wall to wall.

how about z for ladybug? i'm a sucker for dream soulmates
(This is a bit of a longer post)
Ruby smiled as she sat down in a meadow, relaxing in the view of a small village below her. She leaned back, feeling the grass on her back and the sun on her face… only for a shadow to cover her. She opened her eyes, chuckling a bit. “If you wanted to see me again, all you had to do was ask.”
Blake sat down next to Ruby, pulling out a picnic basket. “You know as well as I do that I cant choose when to see you.”
“I know, but… maybe one day we can meet each other.”
“Assuming you remember this.”
Ruby nodded and sat up, reaching for her bag. “Oh, there’s something I almost forgot.” She pulled out a small parcel wrapped in twine. “For you. Happy birthday.”
Blake slowly took the parcel, smiling softly. “You remembered.”
“I couldnt remember the title of that book you liked, so I hope you like this one.”
Blake unwrapped the book, looking it over. She smiled and held it close. “Faunus fairytales. Havent read a few of these since I was a kid. This means a lot Ruby. Thank you.”
Ruby laid back again. “I’m glad you like it.”
Blake leaned back with Ruby, laying close to her. “I know this is just a dream but… I cant help but feel we have a connection.”
“I understand what you mean. Maybe we could-”
Blake put a finger on Ruby’s lips before sitting up and moving to straddle Ruby, looking down on her. “I think I can make an exception this time.”
Ruby smiled and closed her eyes, leaning in for a kiss-
-------------------------------------------------
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Ruby groaned as she woke up to the sound of her alarm going off. She reached for her alarm, snoozing it so she could go back to sleep. She hated being interrupted by a good dream and this one… this one was great. She couldnt remember all of it, but she at least remembered a date and a face.
Yang came up into Ruby’s room, sighing and shaking her head. “Come on Rubes, you need to get up. You’ll be late for your first day on the job.”
“Dun wanna.” Her voice was muffled as she pressed into the pillow. She curled up more in her blanket, trying to get warm. “Sleep…”
Yang walked over to Ruby’s bed and jerked the blanket off her sister and then went to open the blinds. “Rise and shine sis. You know dad isnt going to be happy if you’re late.”
Ruby slowly got up, yawning and glaring at Yang. “It’s too early…”
“And that’s what you get for staying up all night playing games. I reminded you that we had to be up early and what did you say?”
“I’ll be fine…” Ruby sighed and got up to get showered. “Nora, Pyrrha, Jaune, and Penny needed me. We had to finish up the raid and stop the Demon King’s armies.”
“They could’ve had you later today.” Yang started walking out of the room, straightening her apron. “Breakfast is ready when you finally get downstairs. We’ve got to leave in an hour.”
“Alright, I’ll hurry up.” Ruby groaned as she started her shower, sighing a bit. “Today’s going to suck.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blake held her book close, not remembering when she had gotten it. She didnt remember going to sleep with one and she certainly didnt remember having a book with faunus fairytales. At least, not since she was a kid. She smiled a bit as she opened up the cover, seeing the words “Happy Birthday Blake” written inside.
Kali knocked on the door. “Blake? Are you up?”
Blake nodded and sat the book down on her nightstand. “Yeah, I am.”
Kali walked in, smiling softly and pulling Blake into a hug. “Happy birthday dear.”
“Thanks mom.”
Kali pulled away a bit. “You seem happier today than you have in a while.”
“I… had a great dream. My soulmate has to be near, I know it.”
“Maybe we’ll get lucky and see her in town.”
Blake smiled a bit. “W-wait, you mean it? We can go into town today?”
“I dont see why not. It is your birthday and we have plenty of time to do whatever we need today.”
Blake practically threw herself onto her mother, hugging tightly. “Thank you mom!”
“Alright kitten, make sure you’re ready so we can go soon. And we can stop by that bookstore you like.”
“And I can get any book I want, right?”
“Within reason.” Kali smiled at her daughter. “You may be eighteen now, but you need to start thinking about your future.”
“I know mom. And I will.” Blake pulled away and got up to start getting dressed. “Really think I might meet my soulmate today?”
“Stranger things have happened.” Kali started leaving her daughter’s room, lingering a bit by the door. “Oh, and breakfast will be ready soon. We wouldnt want it getting cold today.”
Blake nodded, getting herself ready and putting on a bow to cover her ears. “Dont worry mom, I’ll be down soon.”
Kali started heading back downstairs to finish breakfast for her daughter.
Blake smiled at herself in the mirror before fixing her bow a bit. “Today is going to be a great day.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruby slowly walked into the bookstore, sighing as she sat her pack down behind the counter. “Sorry I’m late dad.”
“Try to be on time tomorrow.” Tai came out from the back with a large stack of books, setting them down on the counter. “I’d rather you not make a habit of coming in late.”
“I know. I… misjudged how late I was staying up last night.”
“You really should quit playing those games. If they’re going to consumer your life or enable you to make the wrong choices-”
“It was one time dad.” Ruby sighed and started picking up a few books to put away. “I wont make a habit of it. Besides, waking up today wasnt easy after the dream I had.”
Tai shook his head and started helping his daughter. “What was your dream this time?”
“I… saw that girl again. I think we were in a meadow of some sort? I dont know, most of the dream seems fuzzy now. I just remember today’s date being important.”
“If you’re starting to see your soulmate that frequently, maybe its getting close to time to meet them.”
“Yeah, but… how will I know?”
Tai shrugged. “There isnt exactly a way to tell. I know I met your mother a few years after I started seeing her in my dreams. And it was like we had known each other for all that time.” He sighed and looked at the picture on the counter, sighing. “And I know she’d be proud of how you’ve turned out. And I bet she’s missing out on trying to torment you about meeting your soulmate.”
Ruby nodded a bit, starting to feel a bit saddened. “I wish she was still here. It was easier to talk to her about these kinds of things.”
“I know sweetie.” Tai hugged his daughter, pulling her close. “I know. I miss her too. Things…. Havent been the same without her.”
Ruby nodded and silently put a few more books away.
A few minutes after the shop opened, Ruby heard the bell chime for the door opening. She smiled and made her way to the front. “Welcome to the Long Rose bookstore. How may I…. help…” she stopped for a moment, looking at the girl that had just walked in. “You… You’re from my dreams.”
The girl smiled at Ruby. “And you’re from mine. My name is Blake. I’m… I’m your soulmate.”

The War Ends at Dusk
This is my first fan fiction, so I worked super hard on it! This is the prologue, and the first chapter is finished so I will post that shortly. The premise is four years after the accounts of RWBY and Blake and Yang are awaiting the birth of their first child. Ruby, Weiss, Nora, and Ren are in the waiting room awaiting the birth of the bumbleby baby. The fic is centered around the bee family, and add a bit of found family trope and new age angst.
WC: 2,214
“Does anyone know how much longer this is going to take? I mean they’ve been in there almost 10 months!” Nora barked, getting up to stretch. Ren sighed and grabbed his partner’s hand.
“Patience, please Nora. This has got to be hard on Blake and Yang too.” Ren said ever ready to calm down his excitable partner.
Ruby chuckled, “Guess they’ll be as stubborn as Yang. Taking bets that they’ll be born tomorrow?” she said checking the clock on the wall which read 5:38 pm, the group had been there since Yang’s frantic group text that early morning that Blake was going into labor.
“I’ll put ten liens on that bet, Ruby” Nora said tossing Ruby a rolled-up bill.
Weiss and Ren collectively sighed at their partner’s immaturity and gave each other a knowing look.
“Ruby, your sister’s wife, your best friend, is giving birth to her first child have some sympathy.” Weiss retorted rubbing the bridge of her nose. The four of them sat in silence for a minute. It seemed impossible that they were here together to celebrate life. Something none of them saw in their future a mere four years ago when they were fighting for their lives and battling a unkillable creature. Ruby sat back in the hospital seat closing her remaining eye. She was about to be an aunt, she still couldn’t believe that they were all here like this, yesterday it seemed that Blake and Yang announced they were officially dating, yesterday that they were trapped in Purgatory without seeing any way out. Ruby smiled, she couldn’t quite describe how elated she was to celebrate this moment with her closest friends and family.
“You know,” Ruby started, “I don’t know if you all feel this way, but this feels unreal.”
Weiss looked to her best friend and smiled sincerely, “It does feel unreal. Like all the tribulations we went through as teenagers seems so close, yet so far away. I’m happy in a way that we were a part of the new future that we are giving to Blake and Yang’s child, to all future generations, that they will never have to worry about the things we did.”
“Never thought a future would exist for us like this,” Nora chimed in, taking Ren’s hand, “After everything, I am so thankful that I get to experience this moment. Can’t imagine what they must be feeling too and I’m glad Jaune is assisting in boosting her aura for childbirth.” She smiled and looked towards the birth wing.
Ren rubbed her hand with his, smiling contently, “When we became huntsman it seemed like a forever thing, like we would never be able to experience moments in life as precious as this. I felt like this at Yang and Blake’s wedding too. Their happiness and love for each other filled the room with pink petals, their emotions were so raw and real, I can even feel it today.”
The three smiled at him, “You always know what to say, Ren.” Weiss said, “I just cannot wait to spoil the little thing.”
The group laughed, “They just have to hurry up and get out into the world!” Nora yelled earning a strict look from one of the nurses. She uttered a soft apology while Ruby chuckled and in turn Weiss gave her a look.
Ruby sighed, “It is taking a long time, I hope she’s okay. Has anyone heard anything from Yang or Jaune?”
The four of them checked their scrolls, “Haven’t heard anything sense ‘Blake is 7 centimeters,’ and that was two hours ago.” Weiss replied, huffing quietly in annoyance.
“Hmm, well we could tell some stories to pass the time?” Ruby asked rubbing her chin.
Nora looked up at her, “Practicing your story telling skills on us before you have to tell famous, huntress who saved all of Remnant Auntie Ruby Rose stories?” Nora asked.
Ruby laughed, “Partially, I guess. So, yes, or no?”
Ren nodded, “I’d like to hear some, maybe some that we were not together for? Like what you’ve been doing now with Jaune and Weiss?”
Weiss looked at Ruby, not like her work now was anything confidential, just not something Ruby liked to talk about specifically. It hit close to her.
Ruby took a long sigh, she closed her good eye and raised her hand to touch her scarred over right eye, “I’d hate to put a damper on our good moods,” Ruby let out a long breath and Weiss put her hand on Ruby’s shoulder.
“You don’t have to talk about it if you do not want to Ruby, it’s not an easy topic to discuss,” Weiss reassured Ruby.
Ruby looked to Weiss, who has been next to her throughout her whole journey, never questioning Ruby’s judgement, the most loyal person Ruby has ever met. However, Weiss was right, this was not an easy topic to talk about. Especially when this only mattered to her, but she has not discussed this with anyone except her teammates and Oscar. She was reminded of her mother for a moment, and Maria who did not have a lot of information to give her either on the silver eyed warriors. After seeing Salem’s Hound, she promised herself that she would do whatever it takes to end any part of Salem’s tyranny, and as of late Ruby found several lackey groups that still practiced horrid experiments on silver eyed people.
“I could talk about it, but I am not sure where to begin, it is not a particularly easy thing to talk about. You remember four years ago in Atlas, the Hound that was after Oscar and Penny?”
Ruby could feel the atmosphere shift. Weiss raised her hand from Ruby’s shoulder to fix her hair bun. Nora’s shoulders slumped and her eyes darted to the ground. Ren let out a long audible sigh as he straightened in his seat.
Ren spoke first, “It, it is not something I like to think about,” remembering his own impudence, “but I will never forget it.”
“I was thankful that I did not have to see it in person,” Nora added rubbing her lightning bolt scar on her neck.
Ren folded his hands on his lap, “It’s never something I like to discuss either, if the students ever bring it up, I mean.”
Weiss nodded, “Ruby and I have been well…” Weiss looked to Ruby.
“We have been finding Salem’s old research facilities and finding silver eyed people being experimented on.” Ren and Nora collectively gasped. “Yeah, it is not something, well it is not an easy thing to talk about. The hardest part was finding out that Salem, even now that she is gone, still has her clutches across Remnant.”
Weiss rubbed Ruby’s back, “As a huntsman rehabilitations counselor, I focus on finding homes for the silver eyed people who have either been born into the lab, or who have lost family members…” Weiss trailed off looking at her scroll to check any messages.
Ruby picked where Weiss left off, “It is not an ideal situation, but through Weiss’ company we are finding homes that are taking children and teenagers and Oscar is letting adults live in some empty apartments in Vale.
Ren shook his head, “I hate that there are still veins of Salem’s reign throughout the kingdoms, but I am glad that there is you two that are liberating these people.”
Nora placed her hands on her thighs, an exasperated expression on her face, “I have a student with silver eyes, they’re so promising. I can’t imagine anything ever happening to them.”
Ren nodded in agreement, “Yes, they are a wonder, though I am not sure they know how to use their silver eye powers yet.”
Ruby nodded, “It might be best right now, for your student to not know, it will paint an even bigger target on their back.”
Weiss looked to Ren and Nora, of course they would be worried about their students, even though there was peace many dangers still lurked around the corners, still small threats of Salem’s powers.
“Nowadays, huntsmen and huntresses are returning home, all of the small lurking problems are ones for the younger generation now.” Weiss said giving a reassuring look to Ren and Nora.
“Remnant is safe, yes though there are Grimm still lurking about, thieves trying to steal maiden powers or relics, even bandit troops are still around. While these new huntsmen nowadays don’t have to worry about the fate of the world, they are just cleaning up our scraps.”
Nora stood and looked Ruby in the eye defiantly, “Ruby, that is why Ren and I decided to become professors at Beacon. People will always be willing to help those in need and we will be there to offer support, just like our professors and mentors did for us.”
Ruby sniffed and stood to give Nora a hug, “I will always count on you guys to do that for us, and if you ever need a guest talk about the silver eyed warriors or to teach your student how to use their eyes, I am here for you. All three of you.”
“You guys, I love the sentiment, but you should really save your tears for Blake and Yang’s child.” Weiss sighed.
The group laughed. “I am glad our parents were allowed to go into the room with them, but I am a bit jealous,” Ruby said and continued, “Dad is so excited to be a grandpa and I know Kali and Ghira have been waiting for this moment too. I don’t think I have been this excited for something in a long time.”
“I couldn’t wait to meet the little cub since the baby shower, I think I bought too many gifts.” Weiss sighed leaning on her knees.
“I am surprised you still have money after that spree,” Nora said sitting back down next to Ren.
Ren laughed, “I splurged a bit too much as well, almost my whole paycheck.”
“Mrs. Xiao Long-Belladonna! Do not run in the halls!”
The group stood up when Yang burst into the waiting room.
“Yang! Is everything alright?!” Ruby and the rest stood quickly.
Yang ripped the hair cap from her head and pulled her surgical mask down, beaming from ear to ear.
“Guys! You’re allowed to come into our room, there is someone I’d like you to meet!”
The gang followed Yang quickly down the hallway to the room. Jaune was waiting outside for them.
“Everything alright still?” Yang asked him, leaning an arm on his shoulder.
Jaune looked to everyone, his eyes heavy, “Yeah, they are resting comfortably. Though, that kid is a fighter, I used up all of my aura.”
Nora stood by her teammate to rub his back.
“We really appreciate it, Jaune. Now guys, please come in.”
The group of seven walked in slowly passing by Taiyang who was standing in the corner of the room, weeping softly. Ruby placed a hand on her father’s back.
“Alright, Dad?” Ruby whispered. Taiyang nodded and ruffled Ruby’s hair. Yang passed by to sit beside her wife. Blake reached up and kissed Yang sleepily. Blake held a bundled blanket closer to her chest and smiled happily to the rest of the gang.
“Well don’t just stand around like that you guys! No need to be nervous!” Kali said grabbing Ruby by the arm leading her to stand by Yang.
Blake and Yang laughed as the group nervously huddled around Blake’s bed. Yang gently touched the bundle which in turn made a soft gurgling sound.
“Hehe, our little guy just ate, he and Mommy are super sleepy now, huh?”
Weiss raised her eyebrows and stared at Yang, “A boy?”
Nora and Ren bumped fists, “We knew it!” Nora cried.
The baby moaned a bit at the sudden loud noise and Blake and Yang were quick to reassure their newborn son. Ruby and Weiss shot Nora a look and Ren rolled his eyes.
Blake laughed after the baby calmed down.
“Sorry, Blake. I know you’ve had a hard day.”
Blake laughed again and looked at Yang, “Nora, this was one of the happiest days of my life. He was a sucker to push out, but I would do it all again to share this moment with the person I love the most and my most prized possession, our son.”
Ruby smiled and moved closer to Yang, “So, are you going to introduce us then?”
Weiss grabbed Ruby’s arm, Ruby leaned in closer to Yang, and Ren, Nora, and Jaune linked together.
Blake unwrapped the small bundle a bit where two little, folded blonde cat ears stood up.
Weiss teared up, “He’s beautiful, Yang, Blake”
Yang smiled and kissed the small head, “Well, I mean he came from the most beautiful woman on Remnant, of course he’s beautiful.”
Blake and nearly everyone in the room rolled their eyes.
“Yang, please. I love you, but please.” Blake pleaded, “Even the baby hated your joke.”
Yang chuckled, “No, he didn’t. Look at the perfect little kitten.” She said taking the small baby’s hand.
“So,” Ruby pleaded her eyes beginning to water, “What is his name?”
Blake and Yang looked at each other then to their son.
“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Dusk Yin Xiao Long Belladonna”

RWBY VOLUME 8 FINALE AFTERMATH!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
WOW.......What A F***** Finale To End A Volume!!!! I was left surprised, shocked, sad, disappointed and ecstatic with the events that unfolded and also for the future of the RWBY series!!! I have so many theories and headcanons racking in my brain that I’m acting like a Giddy Little Troll 😆. So let’s jump right into the FINAL aftermath of Volume 8....
-(Tick-Tock Took Out The Vine) Before starting into this I want to give a shout out to CRWBY for starting out the episode with the “Warning” for the deaths that we were about to witness. I’m glad they were thoughtful for their fanbase’s wellbeing after watching this finale and hope they continue this trend of “warnings” in the future.
Now onto the first major character death of the episode......Vine 👀. I was fully expecting to see at least one of the Ace-Op members to die in the finale and I was actually quite surprised to see it only be Vine. Given the circumstances that Qrow, Vine, Elm, Marrow and Robyn were put into because of Harriet’s blind loyalty, it wouldn’t be too hard to have expected more characters to die in that situation.
Vine has always been the calm one within the team, so to see him willing to sacrifice himself to save his friends from death was a very touching moment. I was also honestly quite surprised he could used his semblance like that as well 😳. I kinda wished we had seen some more aspects of him extending his aura like that in previous episodes, but that’s just a bit of a small nit-pick of mine.
It’s also going to be interesting how this will impact the rest of the Ace-Op members going forward, especially Harriet. This will no doubt cause some inner turmoil for her character and only time will tell what type of effect it will hold in future dire situations .
-(Fighting For Your Beliefs) Hmmm......I’ll be honest......I was a bit disappointed with Winter and Ironwood’s fight 😓. Now I have a few reasons why I feel like this so let me explain....
1:I think the decision to make Ironwood fight with a “BFG” against Winter was a poor one. As we have seen in Volume 7 episode 11 we know that Ironwood can fight much better with his duel hand cannons. Watching him fight with a bigger weapon against a much more agile opponent didn’t feel right to me lol.
2: Having Winter win the fight using the maiden powers. Now I have no issue with Penny giving the powers to Winter, but I would have preferred if she could have found a way to defeat Ironwood without having the convenient power up. Winter is a very good fighter in her own right and I think having her defeat Ironwood with her abilities alone would mean much more before she was given the maiden powers by Penny.
3: Now I have said this before in previous posts but I would have liked it if Qrow was the one to fight Ironwood. There was indeed a bit of a build up for Qrow to fight Ironwood this volume so I do feel we were a bit blue-balled for that confrontation. Then after some time to think about it I feel the decision to make Winter be the one face Ironwood was the right one. Considering that this was the end of Atlas and that these two characters are the most associated with Atlas, made their fight against each other more fitting then leaving it up to Qrow.
The only positives I can give this fight is that it showcased more of Winter’s fighting potential and I was pleased how the animators made her fight with both Ironwood and later with Cinder. 😊
-(For Her Friends) Now onto definitely the most important part of this episode......Penny’s death. Now Im really gonna be honest with all of you......I was not at all surprised that Penny died in the finale 😔. Ever since she gained the maiden powers she was always gonna have the “Red Flag” known as Cinder be connected to her. I more or less imagined that Penny’s powers would be taken by Cinder at some point and Penny would make some sacrificial play to save her friends while she still had her robot body. So when I witnessed her second death, as a REAL GIRL, I was shouting out “How could I be so RIGHT and so WRONG all at the same time!?” 😫
Now what has me intrigued about this second death is the part about Jaune’s involvement. I’m gonna keep my opinion about this choice from the writers neutral for now because I feel this is deeply connected to what they have already written for Volume 9. There’s is something they are planning for Jaune in the future and I want to see the whole picture of what they are drawing out before giving this either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. 😤
I have one more thing I want to bring up about this, and this is my opinion so if anyone wants to skip over this part I totally understand......so here it is. I truly believe Penny will be brought back to life in the future 🙂. When she first “died” back in volume 3 I fully believed she would be back eventually, so even if the circumstances are different this time around I am still having that same feeling that she will come back. I understand everyone else has their own feelings about what happen to Penny so I will not disapprove how everyone feels about it. It’s just how I feel about it is all 😊.....
-(The Captain Goes Down With His Ship) So.........this is the end of James Ironwood. As Atlas inevitably falls, so to does the man that represented as its symbol throughout the series and it’s aspects of strength, elitism and control.....
.......yeah I’m not buying it 😒
Something feels off if this is how he “permanently” dies..... I understand the symbolism of his “fall” parallels that of Atlas crashing down and being destroyed, but him dying doesn’t feel complete to me....
Not to mention this man has survived with half his body being destroyed in the past with what I believe to be nothing but his sheer will. So if I had to bet on anything I think he would have found a way to have survived Atlas’s crash and the flood that came afterwards....but I think he would be terribly wounded in the process....
There are also a few characters that I feel he hasn’t had a satisfying conclusion with that still needs to be addressed......Qrow, Oz and Glynda.
Also forgot to mention that apparently Arther Watts is dead too.....yeah I believe he’s not dead either 🤨. In fact I’m fully expecting Watts will survive but will be horribly burned and scarred the next time we see him. He will vow vengeance against Cinder and will stop at nothing to obtain his revenge on her. So it would be really lucky of him to find an unconscious and badly wounded general nearby that he could kidnap and experiment on to be his personal attack dog later to kill Cinder 🤔......wouldn’t that be a something to see lol
I’ll gladly wear some clown shoes and makeup in believing that we will be seeing both Ironwood and Watts again in the future, and if I’m wrong then I’ll gladly accept that L from everybody.....till then see you again next time general Ironwood and Arther Watts 🤗
-(Volume 9 and The Future Of RWBY) Alright! There is a couple of reasons why this post has taken me three weeks for me to write 😓.
First reason obviously is because of my job 😭. Some things have been happening at my work that has been stressing me out for weeks and honestly it’s been exhausting to even write anything....
Second reason is that over the course of the past few weeks after the finale aired I have been non-stop thinking of several headcannons, theories and speculations on what may happen in volume 9 and future volumes of RWBY 😆!! Don’t believe me? Here is some of the crazy s*** that came out of my head lol
-Team RWBY, Jaune and Neo meet the God Of Darkness
-The God Of Darkness gives Team RWBY power ups and new outfits to fight against Salem. Also gives Neo the ability to speak.
-Oscar vs Raven
-Salem sends Cinder to Vale to search for the Crown of Choice......but not alone. She gives Cinder 4 more experimental S.E.W Grimm to aid her and one of them happens to be Summer Rose.
-Horribly burned and scarred Watts kidnaps a wounded Ironwood and experiments on his body to change him into a complete cyborg with one objective......kill Cinder.
Believe me I have more context for each of those that I just addressed but that’s for separate posts that I hope to make in the future lol 🤗
Well that’s about all I got for that finale review and I literally cannot wait to see what happens next 😤 lol. I hope to engage with some of you in the fandom in the future and hope we get along 😎
Till next time........BUH-BYE!!!!

One night in Vacuo
It was night, and a surprisingly hot night. Ruby was alone in the bedroom reading her comics when she heard a knock on the door.
She opens the door and finds Jaune in front of her, which surprises her, Jaune did not look for her, Beacon appeared at the door of the room looking for Weiss, they only met in the corridors, where they exchanged a few words.
- Hey Jaune
- Hey, Ruby. - He scratches the back of his neck.
- Do you need something?
- No. I mean, yes! But I think you might need it too ... - Ruby raises a curious eyebrow. "What would I need? And that is why it has to do with Jaune" She opens the door a little more, allowing you to enter. She sits on one of the beds and he does the same on the other bed.
- What I need? - Jaune thinks for a few seconds.
- Ruby ... Since Atlas, since that day of terror, you have been different. - He looks at her. - And that's bad? - Not so much ... bad ... Just a little worrying, you know? You are practically the flame between us, always encouraging us to move on, always feeding our hopes, but it is that now you seem ... Out. - Ruby widens her eyes for a moment, until she closes them, lowering her head and clenching the fists that were on her thighs.
- I have felt so guilty ... Hearing that from you, about being the flame, sounds so ironic to my ears. - Jaune is confused, but lets her continue. - Because ... - some tears fall on your skirt. - Everything I've been doing has been disappointing ...
- Ruby, this is not true. - Ruby looks at him with hate in her teary eyes
- You don't know me, Jaune! - He doesn't react, even more confused. - I'm sorry, but that's a truth. And well ... I made mistakes from the beginning ... How could I be so weak and not be able to stop Mercury in melee, since I had stopped trying to stop Penny and Pyrrha ... How could I be so slow to save Pyrrha I was paralyzed for a few seconds feeling helpless while Cinder killed her ... how I could involve you and your team in this impossible game ... how I believed I could stop Salem even though I have the truth that she is immortal. .. - She cried sobbing, Jaune feeling sad for a moment to see the way she feels antagonistic for everything, but at the same time, he felt relieved, because he understood that she had, at that moment, vented.
He gets up and sits down next to her, taking her hand, making her look at him in surprise.
- You are not guilty. I am not disappointed in you and I am sure that no one feels it, in fact everyone is proud of you. The bad can sometimes be inevitable, just because you did not know how to deal with stressful and complex situations, does not mean that you are wrong. You don't have to fight all the time, Ruby. You don't always have to win, you are human. However, there is something you can do, try. And that's what you've been doing all this time, try, but respect your limitations too. - Ruby absorbs his friend's words and feels better. - Just don't give up on going when something goes wrong, Ruby.
- You are very nice, Jaune. - She looks at him with happiness in her eyes, he smiles rising from the bed
- So ... I wanted to invite you. Do you want to go out with me?
Ruby got out of bed on impulse, very surprised, until her eyes widened immediately, demonstrating this. "Jaune asking me out?"
- Now? - Ruby had a question on her face
- Yes. - She smiles without teeth and then nods.
They walk in the light of the moon, which illuminated the whole scene, they were in the middle of small sand dunes.
- So where are we going?
- You'll know when you get there. - She makes a face.
- We are walking a few minutes, and now we are in a kind of desert ... It's confusing. - Jaune laughs, while another dune rises. Upon reaching the top, they stop. In front of him was a large lake that reflected the whole sky, on its banks were a set of small dark blue lights, like aquatic fireflies. There was also a small wooden platform.
Ruby was delighted with the paradisiacal vision, she had never seen anything so beautiful. Jaune looks at her smiling while the girl looks glassy.
- We will? - He goes down the dune quickly, Ruby soon does the same. They climb on the platform watching the sparkles in the water.
- What is it? - She points to them.
- It's beautiful, is not it? They're like fireflies, but bioluminescent plankton
- It's incredible! - Ruby's eyes sparkled, Jaune moves away, yanking his shoes off his feet.
- What are you doing? - Ruby turns to him and sees him folding the hem of his pants.
- I will feel the water. - He sits on the edge of the platform, sinking his feet into the water. - You should do the same, it's simple, but cool.
Ruby then does the same, sitting next to her, watching the lake.
- It even looks like a sea. - she sighs in wonder.
- I came here a few years ago, I didn't even know if it still existed.
- Thank you ... - she sighs relaxed.
- There is?
- For telling me these things, you are right, I was surprised ... What you said made me much better and helped me to recognize that I am carrying a position that I should not have. - he smiles, she looks at him happily.
- I'm glad you're better, Ruby. I think we should use the place. - He blinks.
- What? - He gets up leaving her with doubts. He takes off his shirt making Ruby shy.
- Hey, what are you doing, are you going to practice nudism? - He laughs
- No, Ruby. I'm just going to get in the water. - He takes off his armor.
- You are crazy? It is night and it is also a very large lake, what if you are attacked by a Grimm? - He unbuttons his pants. - Jauune, I'm here, please don't do this. - He pulls his pants down, Ruby closes his eyes at the moment and peeks through his fingers, he was wearing white linen shorts. Ruby is relieved.
- I wouldn't do that to you here, Ruby. And over the lake, not Ruby, there is no danger of Grimm. The lake is shallow, it cannot and the night is very well lit, it is the perfect climate for a bath in this magical water. He went into the water, his back was not bare, he was wearing a dark blue jersey.
- What are you waiting for. - He signals Ruby to enter the water, she sighs and starts to get rid of the excess clothes. Just in shorts and shirt. She faces the water before entering, starts to touch the water with the tip of the thumb, when she is surprised with a jet of water on the forehead. She faces Jaune who laughed at the situation, she runs into the water to get revenge on the boy, they laughed while the guerrillas in the water. Ruby realized that her body was sinking slightly, the water was on her shoulders.
- You said it was shallow.
- And yes, I say, in the deepest part the water catches my nipples. Ruby laughs, making Jaune embarrassed.
- Yes, the water is shallow just for you. - They laugh. - She splashes water on his face and tries to run. He throws water back and they come back with a wet war.
They looked like children, ran across the sand, bet on the swimming race and returned with the water war.
Jaune was slaughtering Ruby, making her go deeper in an attempt to escape, until she realized she was sinking, she grabs Jaune's arms for support and doesn't drown, he then holds her by the elbows, they laugh, with soaked hair, dripping water. Jaune was mesmerized in Ruby's eyes, still laughing and smiling, they looked like mirrors, they reflected all the brightness of the moon.
- They are beautiful. - Jaune's voice was soft, Ruby's smile soon disappeared with her surprise.
- What?
- Your eyes are incredibly beautiful. - Ruby could not believe what she was hearing, it was a simple compliment, but it gave her incredible and confused feelings, she was happy, she was in love and so was Jaune. They stared at each other for a moment, until Jaune noticed tiredness in his arms and hands. - We'd better go to the shallows. - Ruby agrees.
They sit on the sand. And they watch the environment.
- I really needed it, Jaune. - Ruby smiles at him.
- Me too, Ruby. - He smiles back.
- It had been so long since I felt this way, in fact I think I never felt this way before, it is such a huge happiness, it warms my whole chest, it makes my stomach crazy.
- I understand, I am happy that I am not the only one to feel this way now. - They look at each other smiling, and their faces get closer until their lips touch.
Jaune presses his lips, while he grabs Ruby's waist with one hand, the other he takes up his cheek, Ruby also touches him, one hand was on his back and the other sunk in his wet hair.
Her lips moved, until Jaune's tongue touched Ruby's lip, she let him in, touching her tongue to his. They moved slowly, in a slow, calm kiss. Ruby and Jaune had to move away to get air. They faced each other again, with a cheerful countenance.
- The sky is beautiful. - Ruby lies on the sand to watch the sky. Jaune follows suit. Ruby sighs with happiness, she felt so happy and calm. This made her close the others, taking advantage of the contact of the body with the wet sand and the feet in contact with the water. Jaune turns on his side to watch her.
- And you look magnificent. - Ruby slightly opens her eyes, her heart racing, turns on her side to face him too.
- Thanks. - She puts some of the hair that falls on her face behind her ear. Jaune takes his hand, they approach again, for a second kiss. Jaune puts his arms around her, bringing her closer to his body, Ruby envelops her neck by slowly pushing her head. The kiss was hotter, loaded with tenderness, they stop again.
- If you keep kissing me like that, I'll believe the idea that you like me.
- I'm also believing that, I think I'm in love. - He smiles, making her shy.
- At least you're not sure.
- Do I not? - He pretends to be thoughtful and she laughs.
- Well ... I like you Jaune, and even though we don't have anything, I'm happy to have my first kiss with you. - She smile. - Because I like and trust you, Jaune. - He rejoices to hear her, then pulls her into a hug.
- I'm loving you, Ruby.
P.s. I'm sorry if the writing is bad, I'm Brazilian, I'm not very good at English, but being part of the Lancaster community, I would like to bring content to feed this wonderful ship that is the Lancaster.

Ozpin: Greetings, travelers. You may know me, or you may not. That doesn't matter at the moment. What does matter is this tale I will tell you. It is filled with magic, adventure, and many memorable moments. If I may begin?
Long ago, and far away, in labyrinths of coral caves~,
A mystic crystal was forged in glass, with magic or something like that~.
It's powers had been used for good, and all had lived in brotherhood~,
Until the necromancer attacked, upon her Grimm of bone and black~.
Her black-red eyes with evil gleamed, She stole the crystal and she screamed~,
Now bow down men and all between, Or face the wrath of my magic beams~!
The knights and nobles of the land, Did all they could to stay her hand~,
But not a single blow was struck, For alas, she had the strongest luck~!
Yang: Hey, Professor Ozpin? No offense, but this story is kind of lame.
Nora: Yeah! This necromancer just shows up, and everyone just loses?!
Ozpin: It's called building tension.
Yang: Yeah, but everyone's gonna get bored of the story at this point, and not bother listening any further!
Nora: I bet Ruby could tell a better story!
Ruby: Huh?
Ozpin: Very well. (Tosses the book to Ruby) The story is yours, Miss Rose. (Leaves)
Ruby: B-But I-!
Yang: So, what happened next?
Ruby: Uh, um-!
Nora: It might help if you just read the book.
Ruby: But wasn't that what-?
Yang: C'mon, Rubes! Show us what you've got!
Ruby: Uh, okay then...
She grabbed the princess from her throne, Then trapped her in the crystal stone~.
The king called in his wizards four, And begged them and deeply implored~,
Search the forests, Search the seas, Search in all time and realities~,
Two champions are what I need, To bring my daughter back to me~!
Yes, my king, it shall be done! The wizards said, and so begun~,
A wondrous spell, that soon would find, The greatest men in space and time~!
And that's where our story begins, Our two heroes soon come in~,
There is no quest they can leave be, But only one of them can really speak~.
Meanwhile..
Jaune: I'm really glad you said yes to this meeting. I was kind of nervous you'd say no.
Neo: (Tilts her head)
Jaune: Well, it's just, I think you may have a problem with killing. Or should I say not killing, because-
Neo: (Waves at him, Points)
Jaune: Huh? (Looks behind him) Is that... a mystic space portal behind me? (Portal sucks them in) OH SHI-!
They awoke within a foreign land, Inside a castle oh so grand~,
There atop a throne of gold, Arose the king, so green and old~.
I've called you from the great beyond, To save my daughter with hair so blonde~,
You've sailed across the skies and stars, The Brothers brought you here without harm~!
Jaune: Actually, your majesty, you just sucked us through about sixteen different dimensions, and I have to be honest...
My arms are broken, And I don't know why my chest is smokin'~!
I will heal you with my staff, Tri-Hard works so long as you don't laugh~!
Now go! Ride toward the Sun! No, not to me! They may be our heroes now, But I fear their destiny~.
And so, they turned and rode past the castle walls, In shining codpiece armor that did cradle his chivalrous balls~!
Then skies grew dark, and the road grew narrow, But our heroes would never be lead astray~!
Neo brought her magic arrows, And she can use them to light their righteous way~!
Jaune: (Shot) ARGH! Neo, have you ever used a bow before? (THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!) OW! OKAY, I'M SORRY FOR ASKING! (Rips out the arrows, Throws them back to her) Alright then, LET'S RIDE!
Ruby: Am I doing good?
Yang: Great, Rubes! But did you really need to mention the "cradling his balls" thing?
Ruby: (Blushing) It's what the book says!
Nora: Is it just me, or does this hero sound vaguely familiar?
Yang: I'm sure it's nothing. So, what happened next?
The roads were twisted, and the air was thick, It was clear her domain was as evil as dick!
They passed through the gloom of the Forest of Fear, And the Pits of Disgust, and the Dark Swamp of Tears~!
Then off in the distance so clear, the cold, gray peak of Mt. Nasty appeared~!
Past the Fields of Annoyance, and Dragon Barf Junction, And the treacherous Cliffs of Erectile Dysfunction~!
Now Neo has erectile dysfunction! Only Neo, though~!
Jaune: I know; it's weird. (Neo shrugs)
They arrived at the Evil Queen's halls, and dismounted their trusty steeds with resolve~!
They hugged them goodbye and promised they'd never quit, Then they ran straight away, for they gave not a shit~!
The moonlight shined over the door, And over the gems and the skulls on the floor~.
They felt no terror at their end of the caves, For unless the Bells of Doom tolled, They knew they'd be saved~!
They knew they'd be saved~!
THEY KNEW THEY'D BE SA-~!
Jaune: (Bells of Doom toll, Surrounded by countless Grimm) Ah, fuck...
Yang: Well, they're boned. Unless they fought their way out.
Ruby: It says here the Silent Knight fought her way out and escaped.
Nora: But not the other one?
Ruby: He fought, but tripped on the first swing and knocked himself out.
Nora: Is he dead?
Ruby: Let's see...
Colored gemstones lit up the walls, and formed a rainbow trail up to a giant waterfall~.
There, the necromancer grinned, the Princess stood frozen, yet still so hot beside her~.
Jaune, Yang, Nora, Ruby: Damn...
Then he heard a voice inside his mind, It was the Princess, she said, Jaune Arc, your heart is kind~.
Only light can stop dark~. I know what she spoke of, That to defeat the necromancer, I need to use love~!
Jaune: Stand back, Neo! I'm going to hug her!
She immediately shattered both his legs, and threw him across the room, He probably should have brought some weapons, but now the fool is doomed!
But Neo picked him up, because they're such good friends, Then she used his body like a club to beat their enemy to death~!
He should be in more pain than could ever be spoken, But luckily he felt nothing because his back is totes broken~!
Oh, the necromancer was dead, and the crystal broke in three, They looked up into the light and saw the Princess was now free~!
Jaune: Neo, she's so beautiful! Roll me to her!
Neo: (Rolls her eyes, Throws Jaune at the Princess)
Nora: Hooray! The day is saved!
Yang: That fight could have been better. Gotta say, though, that Silent Knight dude kicked serious ass! Is he single?
Ruby: Well, there's still a few pages left to find out.
They journeyed back to the King, His lands now green with the life of Spring~,
He leapt up and wept at the sight, Of his girl as she carried our hero through the night~!
Heal this man, wizards~! He cried in delight, And they did! Brothers damned, they kept their magicing tight~!
Sadly it was time to leave, so the King said, Fix Neo's ED, and hooray for Neo's Best Team~!
Yang: Great story, Rubes! Nothing left to do but to put it on a shelf and never read it again.
Nora: I wonder what happened to those two after this? Maybe I should write a sequel.
Yang: What if there's already a sequel?
Nora: A sequel as good as good as what I write? Puh-lease! What do you think Ruby? (Ruby is silent) Ruby?
Ruby: (Points to a picture of Jaune walking around, as if it were a live video feed) Look...
Jaune: Neo, look! The portal back home is opening! (Turns to face everyone, Unknowingly facing RYN)
Now fare thee well, It seems that our journey is at an end. We will be here if you should ever need our help again~. (They walked away, but stopped to turn before they take their last step)
Neo: (Kills a guy, Smirks as she maintains her rep)
We all have our battles to fight, and a crystal cage to break through in our lives~.
But when hope is gone, We will be there to help and fight the fuck on~!
Yang: Whoa...
Nora: (Sniffs, Wipes away a tear) That's my leader...
Ruby: (Closes the book)
The End...

Motion Sickness 63.2: Dreams and Honor
pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq
I waited at the altar alone. Ren's wreath of pink and green was there. Penny was off to one side and waiting. But I was under the arch and up on the altar all alone and waiting. I folded my arms in front of me and looked out into the tiny crowd of guests. Oscar was close by to perform the ceremony. But really it was just me. Just waiting for my ladies to walk my way.
There was a cool breeze which was nice but I still felt hot and dizzy in my peach yellow tuxedo.
Then Ruby exited the house in her trumpet style wedding gown with her father beside her and for the second time that day my heart stopped in my chest. Her father was leading her by the arm down to me where I was waiting and the blood rushed to my face like I stood up too quickly. My face got hot and it felt like a dozen hooks were in the flesh around my eyes and we're all pulling gently. It was a little like I was seeing sunlight for the first time. Looking at her. It was a blinding rush.
Weiss walked out in a low back mermaid gown and I nearly stumbled. I laughed a little when I saw her and only when my face moved did I realize I was crying. It still felt like all the skin on my face was being gently pulled away in a rush like hyper. Really right behind the eyes. It was a different kind of blinding sensation. Like I was being plunged into darkness as my blood pressure spiked and my vision tunneled. I didn't actually pass into unconsciousness looking at Weiss. But I did spread the legs of 'unconsciousness' and tease her. I almost made sweet, sweet love to unconsciousness. And it burned me in my skull like I just smoked a bowl or got a runner’s high.
I exhaled a shaking breath. I could do this. I could do this. I was a man. Come on, man. I was getting bopped. They were crushing me like a beer can. Only it was my brain.
Taiyang handed Ruby off to me. She smiled and gave me a gentle giggle. My expression must have been funny. Because she was laughing at me. I couldn't get it together before Weiss was given to me by Klein. She tried to hide her own laugh behind her hand. It was a dainty quiet thing and I was glad they were deriving so much amusement from me. So glad. I mean… I did alright in my tuxedo. I did alright. I didn't look like a god though. They looked like little bright goddesses in all white.
Taiyang and Klein took their seats in the single front row.
Ruby cooed, "aww." And she patted me on the arm.
"He's crying," Weiss whispered.
"I told you!" Ruby shot back at a pitch that would be hard to hear even just a little away from us.
"Yeah," I managed to croak out like an idiot. "I am." I couldn't stop or get it together. My face still felt flush like I stood up too quickly. I'd love to see a graph of my blood pressure over the last two minutes? Five minutes? I hardly remembered watching them walk down the aisle. They just sort of appeared. They were doin' it on purpose, too. It was hard to prove but if I was a betting man, I'd bet on that.
"Welcome all of you!" Oscar began in an Ozpin like fashion. "We're going to go ahead and get started…" Ozpin trailed like he was Oscar.  "We are gathered to celebrate the union of these three in matrimony as a commitment for the rest of their lives."
"This marriage is being created through equality, mutual respect, affection, and a willingness to not abuse the power they each grant one another over themselves. It's not an easy trick to manage. It isn't a cheap trick. And if it's an illusion, then it's an illusion like the horizon or time itself. It possesses a recurrent and quiet beauty," Oscar pressed on.
I didn't much feel like Ruby's or Weiss's equal. Not really. It made me want to laugh a little. Ruby and Weiss were… well, they were fantastic. And I was mediocre at best. You feel me? Like I mean honestly. Who wrote this? Probably them. That made it a little harder to laugh at. It made it somehow stronger like they wrote it into existence like a law of nature. Like gravity or electromagnetism or color.
"We are gathered here today to witness an enormous union surrounded by few friends and family members. We would like to embrace a quiet moment of silence for those fallen." Oscar bowed his head.
My first thought went to Pyrrha. That… hadn't healed. It was a gaping wound in my heart that just rolled like waves on a beach. What if. Splash. What if. Splash. What if. And it was hard to tell that voice 'enough. I'm happy where I am and you can't take that from me.' I didn't always succeed in doing that. Sometimes it got the better of me. And I couldn't master myself. I couldn't tell it to shut up because it was so deep.
Then my thoughts ran to Ren and Nora. I'd gotten them killed in a bad, bad way. I robbed them of their chance to explore one another. What if. Splash. What if. Splash. What if. In Pyrrha's case it was like yeah. Maybe. But in Ren's and Nora's I took that from them. And it was hard in a different way than the way Pyrrha was hard. But I'm not sure it was any less hard. It was brutal.
I looked at the flowers set out for my dead team. It was so far from enough to do them justice that I wanted to laugh a touch madly. It was like a nagging wiggling worm crawling through my brain and driving me absolutely nuts as it ate away at the grey matter inside. The pain I was in was excruciating. It was the sort of pain which unwinded you.
"Okay. I think that's quite enough of that. Because today is a celebration. How many of us struggle and fail to find even one person to spend a lifetime with? And you three are so very fortunate to have found not only one, but two others to share it with. That's something beyond special. It is exceptional. And it tends to defy all logic and reason. I'm sure it wasn't easy to build what you have here. It probably stumbled together. It was probably fragile at times. I'm sure if you could go back you'd do it differently. Yes it worked out. But it didn't come to you all wrapped up in a neat little bow. Things like this are never clean. They can't be. But it's stronger for the difficult times. Scar tissue is stronger than flesh. And that's not to say your wounds are healed. Probably not. But you are better for it together. You may now go into your vows."
"I, Ruby Rose, solemnly swear that I know of no lawful reason why I should not be joined in marriage to Jaune and Weiss. And I ask those present to witness as I take them as husband and wife."
"And to Weiss I do swear to always be your best friend and partner in action. Besties to lovers. You know?" She giggled. "I know I'm a little energetic. I love your patience with me. I know I try you. It doesn't go unnoticed and unappreciated. I love that about you. It's quiet and strong but never lonely. I'll always be there beside you when you need me. Less than a call away. Always. You were there for me when I was hurting so bad and I want to work by your side as mothers, huntresses, friends, and lovers. I think we can make a wonderful life together."
"And to Jaune I want to be a light in your life. I know you are trialed and a lot is resting on your shoulders. I want you to know you can share that load with me. I ask a lot of you and put more on your plate. But if it's at all possible I want to make your life a little easier. I want you to always be able to count on me and never hide away in yourself. I want to feel with you and be a part of your struggles. I don't want you to ever hide what you're feeling from me. You've had some rough times and you have more ahead but maybe they can be happy even if they are difficult. Maybe you can let me take care of you. And I want to."
"I, Weiss Schnee, solemnly swear that I know of no lawful reason why I should not be joined in marriage to Ruby and Jaune. And I ask those present to witness as I take them as wife and husband.”
“To Ruby I never had a friend like you before or since I met you. For the first time in my life I wasn’t truly lonely and that’s all thanks to you. I want to mirror that companionship for you. I want to give back what you have given me. I will always be your partner. And together in true sisterhood I want that intimacy with you I started to crave in Mistral. And I was hungry to have you and be with you. I was starved all my life and it was like eating for the first time when I was with you. I can’t wait to continue to explore each other.”
“For Jaune you won my lonely heart. I got to know the real you. You’re protective, kind, and only a touch obsessive. Your drive is both your greatest vice and greatest virtue. You know how to push yourself and you keep pushing me to be better beside you. You make me want to be a better person. More kind, and gentle, empathetic. You make me hungry for more and I want to give you the rest you deserve. I want you to rest beside me, now. Rest like you belong here. Let your aura shine and shed power like a star. I want to provide you that gentle comfort and support. I want to be a good night’s sleep in your mind. If I could give anything to you it would be that. Because you’ve earned it.”
“I…” I started and choked and stopped for a moment to take a breath. “I, Jaune Arc, solemnly swear that I know of no lawful reason why I should not be joined in marriage to Weiss and Ruby. And I… I ask those present to witness as I take them as my wives.” My voice was shaking and low. But it was getting smoother as I talked more. I got into my rhythm and started to flow and I let my voice timbre.
“For Weiss I think everybody fantasizes about marrying their first crush. I don’t have to fantasize. From the moment I saw you I knew that I wanted you and I would do anything and be anything to impress you. I still feel that way. I still would do anything and everything to impress you and win one of those soft centered smiles you sometimes give out like chocolate. I want the last thing I ever see to be that little real smile I usually have to work hard for. And I want the last thing I ever hear to be your voice hitting a high note and singing me a sweet song. I want to work and struggle and earn those smiles from you. I vow to try as hard as I can to get just one more of those smiles each and every day.”
“To Ruby you were my first real friend. And I couldn’t have fantasized for a better first friend to have. When I fell apart you pulled me together. I could have been and would be nothing without you. Because you were the first person to ever really believe in me. I want to give that back to you. I want to believe in you and support you and be always faithful to you in every way. I feel like I can never ever be half as a good of a friend as you have been to me over these years. But I swear to try my hardest. And I swear to plea against fate and make your dreams come true. I don’t have dreams of my own. I borrow a little bit of yours and it makes me strong in ways I never imagined I could be. I vow to dream up something you can share in and be a friend of such unflinching affectionate solidarity that you always have a safe space you can return to.”
“You have all decided to exchange rings. Please take them and in doing so bind yourselves to this union.”
I reached out to the pedestal on the altar and took the largest Titania and engraved ring. I slipped it on my finger.
“I take this ring as a sign of my fidelity to you two and my undying love. In doing so I bind myself to you both,” I murmured.
“I take this ring as a sign of my fidelity to you two and my undying love. In doing so I bind myself to you both,” Weiss hummed and put it on her finger.
“I take this ring as a sign of my fidelity to you two and my undying love. In doing so I bind myself to you both,” Ruby whispered and slid her’s on.
"By the power vested in me I pronounce this union. You may now kiss," Oscar informed us.
Ruby and Weiss leaned in and kissed me. One on each cheek and then turned and pecked each other to the applause of friends and family.
It didn’t feel real. I stared at the ring on my finger and how the silvery metal caught the light. I turned my hand around, this way and that and stared at it. It felt like a long lost memory or a distant dream but I was awake. It was happening to me.
“Jaune?” Weiss got my attention.
“Wha…?” I wondered dumbly.
“Come on,” Ruby took me by the arm.
We weren’t really going anywhere for the recessional. Dinner was going to be served right here. Salmon and beef steaks and vegetables were served and I sat at a table with a wife on each arm. And that was pretty fucking slick. Not gonna lie.
I thumbed my left earring with my left hand wearing the new ring. It felt fake. It felt too… dreamlike. Consciousness was an abstract if it wasn’t an outright illusion. This felt untrue. It felt too good to be real. Things this good didn’t happen to me. They just didn’t. I felt as though it was going to be robbed from me at any moment.
“I’ve been meaning to ask, Jaune,” Ruby began over dinner. “Are you hiding your aura away on purpose? Does it have to do with Salem?”
“No… no. Am I? I don’t mean to be.”
“Well then, let it out. Let me taste your emotions,” Ruby pleaded. She was a hungry little empath. She wanted to feed off of me. And of course I was going to allow it. I allowed my golden aura to stretch all joyful and elated out of my body. I let the surrealness of it all known and I could taste Ruby’s and Weiss’s emotions. Ruby tasted like cinnamon and flowers. Weiss tasted like cold coffee and custard pudding and crushed crisp ice. I could literally feel how happy they were through our auras and my head fell in my hands and I started crying again.

Interdimensional Moms: Bonus
Part 4 here<-
After many tears and tissue boxes, all members of team RWBY had finally stopped crying. Blake was the best off with her eyes a little red while Ruby was the complete opposite. The girl’s face was still rather red and her eyes were puffy. She hadn’t even completely stopped sniffling yet; much like tear marked partner. Yang on the other hand rested her head on the table. She had cried hard enough to giver herself a minor headache. She was completely drained.
Yang:Ugh, this blows! I thought this was gonna be a fun learning experience.
Blake:We definitely learned. It just so happens we had to poke at some.... extremely sensitive topics.
Weiss:I’m all for looking inward and self reflection but I’ve had my fill.
Ruby:Same. Should’ve kept the summary light.
Yang:No, I’m glad you got that off your chest. We just need a way to lighten the mood.
Blake:.....I kicked Weiss’s butt in a tournament.
RWY:......What?
Blake:During the time spent training for Salem, another tournament was held between the schools. It had team matches and singles. I kicked Weiss’s butt in my fourth round. It was a good day.
Weiss:How is that lightening mood!?
Blake:Listen, it was a big deal! I never thought I was gonna win the whole tournament but I really wanted to beat you. I love you but your head gets a little big when you’re on a roll for too long; plus I just really didn’t want to lose. I always felt a bit of rivalry between us.
Yang:Hehe, is that you’re way of saying “It would look bad to lose to a Schnee?”
Blake:Well it would!
Ruby:Hehehe.
Yang:Wait, does that mean we went back to school?
Blake:Yeah. It was pretty comforting. There was definitely a lot left to learn.
Yang:Weird. School kinda faded into the background.
Ruby:I went back to school. We all did actually. It was fast tracked by roughly a year but it was fun. We all got to pose in caps and gowns.
Weiss:Damn! I should’ve went back just for that. Unfortunately I was busy making rent and learning how to properly preheat a oven.
Yang:It’s like two buttons.
Weiss:Gas stove, and six years out of date.
Yang:Awww, you had to learn the hard way. I’m surprised and thankful you never left the gas on.
Weiss:There’s an alarm for that. Also I’m not irresponsible! Anyways, I mentioned similar tournaments earlier. I didn’t participate much but enough old videos of me in them were enough for to really light a fire under my kids. For awhile I was a bit concerned that they were just following a trend but they really love it. They used to always go around playing like knights when they were tiny.
Ruby:Carmine was a little different. She definitely always tried doing things I could but nothing got the girl jumping like seeing Yang’s horses or new ballet shoes. There wasn’t a morning when I didn’t hear a vase fall over or seeing her spin like a top. Carmine still hums some old routines when she isn’t paying attention.
Yang:Not too many memories of Yujin when she was pint size. But I do remember that wild child always loved using my bandannas for everything! Napkins, capes, ropes; anything but an actual bandanna. I used to get a bit upset with the napkin one but she’d always look at me with her big eyes and crazy hair. I never stayed mad.
Weiss:Softie.
Yang:She was like a pudgy puff ball! Fat cheeks and wholesome smiles. Ah! So adorable!
Weiss:I used to always have at least one of my kids on my hip when I was out and about. I think the media has a magazine amount of pictures of me at the park kissing my babies. Summer liked tummy rubs. She’d never go to sleep without one. Some nights I’d sing too but start to doze off so Jaune would have to take over.
Yang:*smiles* Speaking of Jaune.....
Ruby:No.
Yang:You don’t even know what I was-
Ruby:Were you about to suggest we compare our Jaune’s in the bedroom?
Yang:*red*......Well not just the bedroom! What’s the harm!? I just wanna know if he’s consistent across the board. No need to get detailed.
Weiss:You really never change no matter the world.
Yang:Can’t change greatness. It shows in any form!
Blake:He’s pretty compliant and accommodating. The benefits of being his first when I had prior knowledge I suppose.
Ruby:Don’t answer!
Blake:Why not? I’m comfortable with it.
Yang:Don’t listen to those two Blake. They’re just a bit more embarrassed since Jaune has literally been their one and only.
Blake:Huh, I never thought about it like that. Jaune would’ve been the first person you two opened up to on such a level; especially Weiss.
Yang:That’s still hilarious. All the protesting and somehow you found yourself stripping for the guy.
Weiss:Shut up! I already know! It was....I.... *blushing* emotions ran really high.
Ruby:An entire mental rollercoaster of thoughts and firsts happening all at once. Anxiety was high.
Yang:Heh, so you could say that Jaune Arc-
RW:Got through our walls. Hardy har har.
Yang:Shit, I am the same in every universe. Well I don’t have any reservations about it! *grinning* He makes me feel special every time!
Blake:Bottom.
Yang:I’m ignoring you.🎶
Ruby:Hehe, sounds about right. He...might make me feel a bit special as well.
Blake:Switch.
Ruby:How can you just guess off of that!?
Blake:It’s a gift.
Weiss:......
Blake:*smiling*
Weiss:Leave me alone.
Blake:I don’t know what has you embarrassed. You told us you’ve slept with everyone here except Ruby! I knew you were repressed but geez.
Weiss:For your information it wasn’t my idea! It was yours!
Blake:Not surprising. Let’s switch the topic. How is this other child of mine? Can’t picture me having a daughter.
Weiss:Veronica is very sensitive. Even if she tries to act like she isn’t. One time when she was tiny, a soccer ball hit her straight in the face and she sprung up saying “I’m fine!” Then you took her behind the bleachers to patch her up; tears all on her face. It both breaks my heart and very adorable to see her act fine while her ears are folded back.
Ruby:Your other son Kovu was a bit of cry baby. Partly my fault. Carmine kept beating him up and making fun of him.
Blake:What!?
Yang:Ha! Wait, that’s my kid too. How the heck!? Are you telling me you raised the rowdy child and I got the baby?
Ruby:Yang you’re a baby. I’m like twice as rowdy compared to you. A nevermore got worked day one at school.
Weiss:She has a point. You cry the most out of any of us.
Yang:Wha- that not- how....shut up! *pouts* I’m not that touchy.
Ruby:Kovu is a sweetie and not a cry baby. Carmine is just a little mean when she tries to care about others. She beat him up in an attempt to make Kovu give up dreaming about being a huntsman. That way he wouldn’t be in such a dangerous job. Reasonable logic but you know, a little over the top. Almost broke his arm. Boy did I chew her out. All it did was make him want to try harder.
Yang:Fantastic. I shouldn’t expect less from my own blood. I bet Yujin would like him. Which reminds me, anybody have kids in relationships?
RWB:We’re working on it.
The three women paused briefly before laughing at their meddling. Yang could only admire and fear her friends.
Yang:Should I be scared for your children?
Blake:Lucas needs someone to break up the routine in his life. I’m not saying he has to date her, but it would put a smile on my face.
Ruby:Carmine takes after me, not really thinking about stuff like relationships much. However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t at all. Carmine tries her best to not act like she’s a teenaged girl with teenage wishes. But everyone sees right through it. I’m fine with her not being in one but I would like if she acknowledged that it’s okay to just....ugh, be normal! Why can nobody have normal knees in my life!?
Weiss:Nick likes Valerie who tries to deny she likes him by liking Summer, who doesn’t like her; while Veronica crushes on Nick who obviously has conflicting feelings.
RBY.....
Yang:Why is it always complicated with you?
Weiss:How is this my fau- okay it is a little bit.
Blake:Where do you stand?
Weiss:I think Valerie would be lovely for him.
Yang:What’s wrong with my baby girl!?
Blake:Yeah!?
Weiss:One, not yours. Two, have you met who I’m married to? Can’t really say he’s wasting his efforts. Though I wouldn’t be upset with Veronica. I think those two might be good for each other.
Blake:Any other bombshells people got?
Ruby:......
Ruby:Ilia is happily married.*sips coffee*
Blake:Oh that’s wonderful! I’m glad she found a loving wi-
Ruby:*smirks* To Sun.
Blake:....*stands up* I need, champagne!
A bottle of champagne poofs into existence with several glasses. Blake immediately pours everyone a glass before raising hers into the sky.
Blake:Ruby Rose, today you’ve erased guilt upon my conscious. I’m happy there’s one world where it seems all of my good exes get over me.
Ruby:Are the Ilia and Sun where you’re from miserable like Yang!?
Blake:No, but they kinda fumble in actually going for relationships. It just always makes me feel a little bad.
Yang:You can technically count two worlds. I’m fine, Ilia is dating a pretty secretary, and your one evil ex is now raising a morally good family.
Blake:You’re right! This calls for a double toast! To alternate universes! *puts glass down*
Weiss:Haha, aren’t you gonna drink it!?
Blake:No I’m still recovering; but how could I pass up the opportunity!? Man I wish I could attend that wedding! I don’t know if I’d be a bridesmaid or the best man!
Yang:You’re just gonna steal Neptune’s thunder like that?
Blake:Hey, Sun and I have taken bullets for each other and stab wounds. I think I deserve to be a little greedy and say I ride or die for that man just a little harder than Neptune.
Ruby:Geeeeeez Blake! Haha, I didn’t even tell you about the baby.
Blake:*visble excitement* Excuse me!?
RWY:*raises glass* Cheers.
Blake:CHEERS! What’s he like!?
xxxxx
Aero:AAAACHOOOO!
Carmine:Eugh! Cover your mouth! I don’t need to get sick.
Aero:Damn! What happened to uh I don’t know, “bless you!?”
Carmine:*pulls out tissues* Happy?
Aero:Where...why are those in you book bag?
Carmine:It’s flu season.
Aero:....I can’t tell if you’re the coolest person around or just a second mother.
Carmine:I can be both. My mom is arguably both but don’t tell her that. It’ll make her month and she’ll hug me too tight.
Aero:Bitch, you love hugs. Stop being difficult.
Carmine:Mmmm nah.
Aero:I feel bad for your mom.
Carmine:I feel bad for yours.
Aero:Hop off. You’re so childish.
Carmine:And yet you love me.
Aero:*red* In your dreams!
Carmine:It would make your day if I dreamed about you, wouldn’t it?
Aero:I hope you dream of spiders.
Carmine:We do not joke about that! *grabs him* Aero I will beat you up if I dream of them tonight! That’s just mean!
Aero:Stop crying ya baby. I could’ve said they were- ow!
Sun:*hitting him* Shut up and just kiss something! We’re trying to watch a game.
Aero and Carmine:We don’t like each other!
Jaune:With all do respect, that’s a lie. But please by all means Aero, continue not touching my daughter if you know what’s best for you. I don’t wanna have to fight you and your parents right afterwards.
Sun:Ilia would kill you.
Jaune:Yeah! That’s why I don’t want the fight! Much like Ruby, she’s short and terrifying. Her size holds the rage.
Ilia:*peeks in* Who’s talking shit?
JASC:Nobody, we love you!
Ilia:.....Got my eyes on you four. *holds Garnet up* and this one; the most well behaved in this bunch even with no nap.
Garnet:*fussy grumbling* I’m a ball of rage!
Ilia:You wanna nap?
Garnet:Yes!!!
Ilia:See, behaved. *walks away* don’t make me come back out here.
Carmine:....So do you like me because your mother is also imposing?
Aero:This is it, my evil origin story. It begins today.
xxxxx
Ruby:I admire his patience.

Alchohol for Dummies part 2.
After a good ten minutes of 'Feeling sorry for myself' Jaune made his way back to JNPR's dorm. He was lucky enough to find it empty as he wasn't sure with the combined hangover and Nora's hyperness he would survive.
Taking a quick shower and getting himself fresh set of clothes, he was ready to gear up, tying around his waist his belt and fashioned his leather holster on his right leg.
A gleam coming from the corner of the room caught his eye as he saw the sun cast brightly on the family heirloom. The one he stole...
Walking over he picked up the blade and studied it for a minute giving it a good swing or two before holding it in both hands. It...just didn't feel right. Holding Crocea Mors just didn't feel right with him.
He set the blade back down and his gaze traveled to shield standing proud next to its brethren. Jaune reached out but just as he was about to make contact he pulled back and let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
Sighing he made his way to his bed that had his bag ontop. opening it up Jaune pulled out his revolver and when the pistol made its way into his hands. Jaune found a strange sense of peace. What was it that Ruby said 'a weapon is apart of one's soul'?
"Or was it semblance?" Jaune muttered to himself still looking at the weapon in hand before getting up from his bed and spinning the revolver perfectly into his side holster.
Looking at his scroll he checked the time which showed that he still had ten minutes left to get to professor goodwhich class. He made his was to the door but not before casting one more glance to Crocea Mors and the shield the protected his family for generations before leaving to class.
He could feel today was gonna be a long day.
.
.
.
"FEARLESS LEADER YOUR ALIVE!"
He was right.
"Where have you been? Where you hurt? Did you kill anyone? How come you didn't didn't call!? Everyonewasworriedsickbutnotmeiknew-" It took all of Jaunes will power to tune her out and ignore her rampant twenty questions.
Looking past her he saw the rest of his teammates Pyrrha who was smiling happily at him and Ren who was looking stoick as ever.
"Glad to see you are alright Ren" Jaune said shuffling past Nora and Ren just chuckled.
"Do you remember what happened last night?" Ren asked to which Jaune shook his head " Only rmemeber waking up in the courtyard today by Ozpin and Glynda...its crazy I was suspended or something" joked Jaune as they all took their seats. Surprisingly Team RWBY hadn't arrived yet.
"Didn't Ozpin say that Team RWBY helped...uh apprehend us?" Jaune whispered to Ren who just shrugged. It wasn't long before the main room door opened up and their looking like they've fought grimm all night long was a tired Team RWBY.
"Sorry Proffesor...we were looking all night for a missing....." trailed off an exhausted Ruby as her eyes caught on to Jaune as if new life was cast into her Ruby used her semblance and launched at Jaune and into one big hug knocking him over in the process.
"JAUNE YOUR ALIVE!" Shouted the young reaper to which Jaune tilted his head " we were trying to find you all night but once Weiss lost you it was like you vanished!" Jaune chuckled nervously.
"Sorry Rubes uh...didn't mean to cause you a scare" he told her setting her back down just in time as he felt the air turn very cold.
"So you think....its alright to keep us up through all hours of the night hmmm?" Came the icy voice of the schnee heiress. Now Jaune was betting man. When a woman talks like that you can either do two options: Fold and pray they show mercy or Call their bluff and hope you didnt bury yourself any deeper.
"Of course not Snow Angel though its is wonderful to know I can keep you up all through the night" Jaune maybe a betting man but Jaune was not a SMART man.
Blake and Yang just plopped into their seats too tired to really care though Yang looked into her scroll as she received a recording from Junior that night. This recording was of Jaune and Rens drunken adventure all throughout the night.
"Why you scraggly blonde-" " Miss schnee if you would so kindly take a seat" Came the voice of Miss Goodwitch "Miss Rose please get to your seat as well so class can begin.
Weiss just glared holes into Jaunes head as he just chuckled at her and offered a sorry to her.
Combat class went on without a hitch as a few student went down to perform. Jaune recieved at tap on his shoulder. He looked to see Ruby looking at him questionly.
"Whats up Rubes?" He asked and Ruby tried looking around him as if she was trying to find something.
"Where is your weapon Jaune didnt you say you went to get it back from a couple a thieves" damn he hated lying to her.
"Oh yeah I got it back alright...its just I've been without it so long that I just had a habit of forgetting" he told her in half truth.
"So how are you gonna fight?" Good question. He was sufficient in hand to hand combat, his old teacher taught him that much, he motioned her too look down at his holster and her eyes widened at the revolver sitting their.
"Ooooooh can I see can I see! " she bounced in the chair practically and Jaune just chuckled before handing her the revolver.
"You truly have a thing for the classics huh?" She said appreciatively as she inspected the weapon. Something did catch her eye, some engravings on the barrel.
" nac aspera terrent?" Ruby said aloud and Jaune just nodded "whats it mean?" She asked but was cut off as Miis. Goodwitch called class to a close.
"I'll tell ya someother time Rubes...now if you'll excuse me I gotta go avoid certain death from..." He didn't get far in his speech as a certain blade from the Icy queen flew straight by him.
"Gotta go!" And off he went with and angry heiress on his heels.
"Get back here Arc and die like the dolt you are!"
The rest of team RWBY and JNPR just laughed.
Ysng elbowed Ren in the side as she pulled out her scroll " so Ren you wanna see what happened at the club you and Jaune went to?" To which Ren just stared wide eyed.
.
.
.
Night time came and Jaune was well on his way to falling asleep with all this home work that professor port has given him. Seriously how far back did grimm history go!
"Jaune" the voice was from Ren.
If it meant giving his brain a rest sure turning to meet Ren he was met with a less then stoic face...was his eye...twitching?
"Buddy are you alright?" Jaune asked slightly unnerved at how Ren was acting. Ren said nothing just slamming his scroll in front of Jaune.
"This video I am about to play is our whole night last night..." Jaune just looked on and gulped.
Ren pressed play.
...
" You know Jaune I gotta say thanks" Ren said casually still drinking his first bottle of beer. Jaune looked at him confused.
"You aint gotta thank me...my first initial response to your slump...was less then ideal" Jaune laughed and Ren rolled his eyes.
" its been a crazy start to school and I'm" he was cut off by someone else
"It's been a crazy start to school and i'm" a male voice came repeating Rens words but a noticeable slur in his voice. Jaune was annoyed.
"Will you just shut up!"
"Will you just shut up!"
Great. Mimicry.
"Be quiet buddy"
"...man you Beacon boys are so uptight" Jaune just rolled his eyes looking at the beer bottle in his hands. Ren sensing Jaune annoyance tried to be the calmer head.
" Leave the man alone " and Jaune wasnt sure if he was telling him that or the other drunken fool that. Nevertheless Jaune weighed his options.
A: Beat the man within an inch of his life and hope he doesn't come back.
... as fun , and possibly deserving of it, it would make Beacon look bad.
B: Threaten the man but thats pretty much the same as option A without the bodily harm...option c it is.
"Leave me alone...people have been leaving me alone for near on 10-"
"Look buddy" Jaune started putting his beer down and looked at the older drunk gentlemen.
"Your a charming fellow eh?" He looks at Ren " one of the best! But me and my teammate here are having a team meeting so could you possibly leave us alone?" Jaune asked putting his hands up on the guys shoulders.
"No offense intended!" The drunk man just sighed before walking away from the duo grumbling.
"Just trying...to be friendly.." and walked off to some other corner of the bar.
Jaune looked at Ren and Ren looked at Jaune, both just chuckled before downing their beer.
"Ah another one bartender please!" Too which to more beers slid into Ren and Jaunes grip.
"Well here to number two!" Jaune said and raised his glass to which Ren met halfway.
*Clink*
...
"Okay surely that was it I mean I did say two!" Jaune said looking up from the scroll at Ren who just shook his head.
...
What was originally planned for two turned into one more...and that one more turned into one more.
"Caaan yous play Despacito for me mr. Dj man" came the slur question of one Jaune Arc as he tried to get the DJ to play something to which the DJ man just ignored him.
"Youuus suck" turning around he realized that his poor teammate had disappeared! Oh no! That pancake fiend will hurt him!
"Renny! Buddy where are you" he tried calling out but to know avail.
"Hey you seen my buddy Ren anywhere?" He asked one of the guests here and they shook their heads.
Looking around Jaune tried to find his missing buddy. He saw a couple of women standing by the VIP room.
"Scuse me nice ladies buuut I can't seem to find my friend, do you know where he went?" He slurred out and almost stumbled. The ladies annoyed at him just said no. Jaune just sighed and stumbled away.... if he didn't find Renny oh brothers...his poor knees.
"Helloo oh leader of leaders!" Jaune looked up to see Ren up on the second floor.
"What are you doin up there?" To which Ren just shrugged Jaune made his way to the second floor just in time to see Ren balance a beer bottle on his head.
" I...I don't know J-Jaune this beer bottle...its like us.. its like...pancakes" Ren said giggling as he turned towards Arthur but the sudden movement cause the bottle to fall and break. Luckily no one was near by but the bar tender did leer at them b efore cleaning up. To which both of them laughed.
It wasn't long before another bottle of beer was in their hands....
They were leaning against the railing and Jaune just needed to know.
"Soooo tell me....what made...you so...distracted?" Jaune asked to which Ren just laughed.
"You'd probably....think badly...of me" He said as he took another swig of his beer to which Jaune laughed him off.
"Aww nonsense we're teammates...famillyy tell your big brother" he teased and Ren just blushed.
"Well I was...uh more like...entranced by Nora's" Jaune held out his ear as he couldn't really here what the boy was saying.
"I'm sorry imma ...little drunk it seems...what didja say?" Jaune asked and Rens blush just intensified
"I was staring at Nora's ....utt" Jaune just got closer
"I was staring at NORA'S BUTT! " Ren yelled out to which Jaune just looked at him and laughed.
" you....means to tell...me you almost got...slapped by a grimm cause...Nora's ass!" Jaune just slapped his teammate on the back.
"Just make sure you invite me to the wedding buddy" to which Ren choked on his beer.
....
Jaune looked at Ren.
Ren looked at Jaune.
"Her ass...really?"
"Keep watching and I won't kill you"
....
"What about you oh fearless leaaader...how come you don't have a girlfriend" asked Ren and Jaune just pouted.
"I guess...im just not good enough.." he said sadly before he chugged his beer down. Jaune kept talking more to himself and not aware that Ren had gone off else where.
"See and thats the thing about..." Jaune stopped realizing Ren had disappeared yet again!
"Come here you slippery bastard" came commotion from down stairs Jaune looked over the rail to see Ren sitting atop the bar table holding a broken beer bottle infront of him to hold back the attackers.
Jaune unsteadily made his way to save his teammate.
"Leave my teammate alone ya damn...damn fools!" Jaune said almost falling down the stairs he was descending.
Two other men trying to subdue the drunken Ren stopped and looked at Jaune. The bar tender looked at Jaune before dialing a number on his scroll.
"Who do you think your talking to boy?" Said the patron obviously fed up with the pair but Jaune wasn't having any of it.
"Nobodies...talking to a pair of nobodies" he said as he got face to face with the one of the patrons and shoved him.
"Get lost buddy!" He slurred which only spurred the two men's anger.
"You best shut up" said one to which the other agreed .
"Yeah best time you learn to watch your mouth!" And one of the patrons raised their fist.
....
"Oh fuck did..did we kill any body?" Jaune asked to which Ren just shook his head 'No' to Jaunes relief.
....
"I'm like a biiiiiird I'll only flyyyy away...i don't know where my souuuul is, I don't know where my hooome issss" Came the voice of Jaune singing with Ren as background singer and the two previous patrons playing music.
...
"...I didn't think I could sing" Jaune said out loud.
A thunk to the head was all he got in response.
...
Camera cuts to Jaune sloppily walking out of the men's restroom.
"Reeeennnnnnnny!" He screeched as he once again lost his friend.
"Renny...you...you bastard!" As he walked around to try and find Ren.
He walked up to one of the patrons.
"Renny my buddy!" Jaune pointed but the man just looked at him confused.
"Im not a 'Renny'" to which Jaune just gasped before pointing at him and shouted "imposter!" And leaving.
This continued for a few more minutes. Jaune going up to random people and calling them 'Renny' and them telling him they got the wrong person to which then Jaune just shouts imposter over dramatically.
It wasnt long before Ren actually grabbed Jaune by the shoulders.
"Jaune....what are ya doin?" He slurred and all he got was a slap to the face. Clutching his cheek Ren chuckled before delivering a slap of his own . To which Jaune slappex him back and vice versa.
It wasnt long before they were back at the bar again.
"Y-y-you kno-know your a good friend and leader" Ren said patting Jaune shoulder to which Jaune batted his hand away and raised his bottle once again.
"Cheer!" And was about to go for another drink when the beer was taken out of his hands.
"Cheers" it was the same man from before mimicking him!
"Thats it! I've had it with you!"
Camera cuts to Jaune taking the man to the bathroom and it was a few before he came out and another few minutes before the poor man came out too his suit was all wet.
"You both need to leave now!" Shouted the bar tender as both Jaune and Ren put their hands up in surrender not wanting to cause more of a scene as they both exited the club. The door shutting behind them with a thunk.
...
"Surely that's it right?" Jaune asked desperately and Ren shook his head before scrolling down to another video
"Yang took this one" He said and press played
...
Jaune and Ren just laughed at the events that had transpired both falling to the floor clutching their sides.
"Renny!/Jaune!" Came the voices of Nora, Ruby and Pyrhha followed closely behind by the rest of Team RWBY.
"Ren...Run! The punishment will be...toooo severe!" Jaune whispered to Ren who nodded and slowly they got up.
"Are they....running? " called out Weiss to which Nora and Ruby came bolting down like a thunderbolt.
" stop right their you two!" Said Ruby using her semblance to get closer to Jaune
"Neeeeeeeveeerr!" Screeched Jaune as he started running he looked back to see Ren getting tackled by nora. Jaune just let out a silent prayer. Running albeit sloppily through a back alley he just had to hope over this fence and he'd be home free!
"Oh no you don't you drunken dolt stop!" Gasp the evil white witch stood in his path! And the flower girl was on his tail! If he were to stop now he'll be caught!
He increased his speed as Weiss just stood her ground arms outstretched ready to capture the drunken arc. Ruby was gaining and almost within reach.
It was now or never!
Jaune suddenly stopped mere inches from Weiss. Weiss smiled happy thst Jaune came to his senses but was confused when jaune just ducked.
"Weiss get out the waaaay" Weiss liiked just in time to see rose petals collide with her sending them crashing. Blake, Pyrrha and Yang just looked down in time to see the crash as Jaune just whooped and climbed over the fence and ran away shouting
"You'll never take me aliiiiive!" Which echoed suddenly the Camera shifted back to Yang and Blake.
"Well that could have gone better" Blake said to which the camera cut off.
...
Jaune was rubbing his temples as he felt a migrain begin to form.
So much for one or two drinks...
"Ren..."
"I know Jaune"
"...never again"
"Agreed".
In keeping to canon somewhat of Jaune taking Crocea Mors but him having the use of an old school revolver. I'm gonna make a separate story on how he steals the sword and shield.

Fun Times #1
*Atlas Academy, Recreation Room*
The RWBYNOR group have been experiencing a problem that many Huntsmen experience from time to time....boredom. They had no missions as of late and everything else was pretty much run of the mill errands to do. Something that they all either didn’t want to do or found too tame. The door to the rec room opens and comes in Jaune Arc with frizzed hair and a ‘STOP’ sign he got from his babysit- er, primary school voluntary work. He took a look at the room around him and found a spot to sit at on the end of a couch, in between RWBY and NOR. He sat down and sets the sign on his lap.
Yang: ....Ok I’ll bite, what happened to you Vomit Boy? Did those kids become rascals and tried to climb you like a tree?
Jaune: Pff, I wish, the kids were fine. It’s the mothers of those kids that I had to ward off.
Ruby: Wait what? Those ladies are still giving you trouble?
Jaune: (Rubs his face) No, it’s not that, they’re actually very friendly. A bit too friendly. I swear I had so many of them trying to ‘thank me’ for taking care of their kids that it’s really starting to get on my nerves. I think I’ve been given so many casseroles from Mrs. Lars that it’s starting to pile up in the fridge faster than we can get rid of.
Ruby: Well have you tried I don’t know......telling them to back off or that you’re not interested in their advances.
Jaune: I’ve thought about doing that but I’m worried that if I do that and they take it the wrong way, or maybe they aren’t trying to flirt with me and were just trying to be nice in a over friendly way and they’ll look at me like I’m the one getting the wrong idea.
Nora: Mmm. That’s a good point, a lot of ways they could spin it to make it seem you’re the bad guy. Thirsty moms are a scary thing.
Ruby:(Murmurs) I’ll give 'em something to be scared about....
Jaune: What was that Ruby?
Ruby: What? I didn’t say anything. I was....thinking about that casserole that you mentioned. I’m gonna go get some! (Saying the last statement very tightly then left for the kitchen)
Oscar: So, I’m gonna assume we’re going to be having casserole again for dinner?
Nora: Looks like it. I gotta say, I loved the idea of you getting more attention from the ladies because of the new haircut, but now it’s starting to become old. I miss eating other food!
Blake: Maybe we can go out somewhere to eat so that we have something to do.
Weiss: Actually that does remind me of something. Winter said that the academy was going to be holding a ceremony for a class reunion for older Atlas graduates that she’s going to be attending this evening. Perhaps we can go there.
Oscar: Wouldn’t you all need clearance for that from Ironwood?
Weiss: Nonsense, the event is open to all the Atlas students and hunters, besides it more of a formality for old friends to reacquaint with old peers.
Blake: Well that could be fun. What do you think Yang? ....Yang?
She turned to see that her partner was locked on to her scroll and was having a content smile. Yang looked to be texting someone when all of a sudden she feels a nudge on her shoulder. Yang looks away from the screen and sees everyone’s eyes looking at her inquisitively.
Yang: (Closes her scroll) Haha! Sorry guys you were saying?
Nora: Well.~ You seemed in a good mood, who were you texting?
Yang: Hmm. Oh! I was just reading a message from a pen pal of sorts.
Weiss: Pen pal? I wasn’t aware you had kept in contact with any social relationships outside the rest of us.
Yang: Well Weisscream, I’m sorry to disappoint but I do have a life outside of you all and saving the world. Plus you can’t tell me talking to the same people everyday doesn’t sometimes get on your nerves.
Weiss: Hmm. Fair point. So who are they?
Yang: Oh they’re called Nunya.
Weiss: ‘Nunya’? That’s a interesting name.
Yang: Yeah and their full name is Nunya Business!
Weiss: What kind of name is.....Hey wait a minute!
The other remaining friends starts to laugh at the expense of former heiress. While on of the more intellectual of the group, slang was still foreign to her.
Weiss: Alright! Alright! I get that I walked myself into that one. Sense you are not willing to reveal the identity of your friend Xiao-Long, I will not pry any more.
Yang: Great. Glad to hear Weisscream. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go to the dorm.
Blake: You’re not going to the ceremony with us?
Yang: Sorry Blakey but I’m gonna be flying solo tonight. Miss me too much you guys!~
With that Yang left the rec room and was out of sight from the group.
Jaune: Well sense she’s gonna be doing her own thing, maybe we should try going out someplace fun. Be nice to spend with people my age than moms and kids. By the way is Ruby back yet? She’s been in the kitchen for awhile.
Ren: I’ll check. (Walks from couch to rec room Kitchen) Ruby were you able to-
Ruby is seen looking at a burning pile of what smelt of casseroles in a trash bin. She looks at Ren and they make eye contact for a brief moment before he slowly backtracked his steps and made his way back to the couch.
Ren: Just checked with Ruby, turns out we’re out of casserole. Went bad.
Jaune: Dang it! I knew we wouldn’t be able to finish them before they spoiled.
Ruby:(Coming back from kitchen) Welp! Since we’re out of food, I vote we go do something fun! Maybe we could get Penny to join along.
Weiss: I think she maybe too busy attending the ceremony with Winter as she’s a Atlas representative.
Ruby: Oooohhh yeah. Bummer.
Jaune: Hey Ruby how about we all go see that new movie that we’ve been seeing on the posters lately?
Oscar: Can I come along?
Ruby: Oh, sure I don’t see why not? Jaune?
Jaune: Yeah that’s sounds good the more the merrier!
Oscar: Yes!
Nora: Well you can count us in too! Beats going to a snore fest like a social event. (Grabs Ren and wrapped her arm around him)
Weiss: Well I guess that just leaves you and me Blake.
Blake: You know actually I noticed that the Atlas library had a book that really seemed interesting to read-!
Weiss:(Grabbing her via summon arm) Oh no you don’t! I refuse to attend this event by myself, and you’re the only one singled out by everyone here. So dare try to weasel your way out of this!
Blake: But-! Books!
Weiss: (Dragging her friend to the exit of the rec room exit) They aren’t going to grow legs and run away, they’ll be there when we return.
Blake:(Whimpers)
Soon both W and B of team of their group left the rec room leaving only five of the eight friends by themselves.
Jaune: Guess that just leaves us. Kinda funny, this may be one of the first times we’ve had a chance to hang out as team RNJR.
Ruby: Wait really?! ....oh yeah! Oh this’ll be great then, this will be just like when we had time to relax during our time in Anima!
Nora: Oh yeah Team RNJR is back baby! Wait a minute, we have Oscar with us so that does kind of chance the name a bit.
Ren: So what should we call this arrangement then?
Nora:Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Jaune: Guys we don’t need necessarily a new name for the group, we’re just going to see a movie, not fight a final boss Grimm.
Ruby: Besides, it’s just like Jaune said, doesn’t matter what we’re called. As long as we’re together. (Smiles)
Nora: Yeah you’re right. I’ll think of something later. Anyway let’s make this night a killer!
Ruby/Jaune: Yeah!
Ren/Oscar: Yeah.
*RWBY Dormitory*
Yang entered the room and sighed. That was a close one, she almost didn’t think they would let her leave that easily. Before she could think about the matter further she felt her scroll vibrate as her friend had messaged her once more. She opened the scroll to view the message.
White_Knight: Are you still up for tonight? I didn’t rush you too soon did I?
White_Knight: I could always reschedule!
Sun_Dragon: Nah . You’re good, just my friend was trying to be nosey.
Sun_Dragon: Anyway, you still want to go see that new horror flick that’s out now? Heard it’s supposed to be intense.
White_Knight: Most definitely. I’ve reserved private seats for us on top where we won’t have anyone being ‘nosey’ as you say it.
Sun_Dragon: Really?! Dang I thought reserving a seat was hella expensive on primere night!
White_Knight: Never to fear, I have good connections so the seats are very much legit.
Sun_Dragon: ....bet?
White_Knight: On everything.
Sun_Dragon: Geez Knight, keep tryin’ to impress me and you might get yourself a girlfriend by the end of the night cutie~ ;-)
White_Knight: I like to impress my dear. But let’s keep it slow before we start talking about relationships. Or you might come off as desperate ;-)
Sun_Dragon: Ok see you tonight <3
White_Knight: Can’t wait! <3
Yang smiled after the chat with her pen pal. She originally started talking to Knight after download Instaspam on her scroll when she took that selfie with Blake. Originally she got a lot of likes for how the two looked like a cute lesbian couple but she put a plug on that real quick. While she and Blake we’re getting back to better times, she wasn’t really interested in starting a full on relationship with her partner. Kind of brought bad thoughts about her own family dynamic so that was a no-no. Of course she did lose a few subs for the apparent ‘queer baiting’ from some of the ruder people on the app, but others were actually glad that she made the clarification early on so that people wouldn’t make inaccurate assumptions.
It was actually how she met Knight, through a personal message saying how brave she was to tell the truth and not to take the fake friends words seriously. Yang was a bit suprised about the message so she thanked him later and one thing lead to another and they were talking almost everyday whenever she wasn’t on missions. She got a look at his profile and it looked like he was a music enthusiast and played multiple instruments like the piano and violin. She of course teased him of being a nerd for apparently liking classical music for being a young man. However to her suprise he sent her a link to one of his tracks of his music and while not of fan of classical, he was very good at playing piano covers. He didn’t have a profile picture so she asked if she could send her a picture, she had to be sure he wasn’t a creepy old man or something. To her suprise he did send a picture. Granted he was wearing a hat and a pair of glasses but he definitely looked young. Maybe a bit too young. She was a bit uncomfortable about this little tidbit about Knight, but she knew he was definitely only two years younger than her.
Yang’s sisterly instinct was too let Knight know that he shouldn’t try to flirt with girls older than him but the more she thought about it....it couldn’t be that bad. They stayed only as friends and besides casual teasing it wasn’t anything excessive that would send people the wrong message. So she kept in contact with him. Besides her own sister had a massive crush on a guy two years her senior so it wasn’t that bad. Besides Knight was a nice guy, always polite, never vulgar or tried to ask for body shots of her. What really got her was his respect for women. He apparently had a family mostly consisting of women so that put some insight. So Yang was very glad that Knight didn’t turn out to be a creep. Who knows, maybe she might give him a reward if this first outing goes smoothly.
Yang: Guess I’ll see you tonight Mr. Knight.~
*Schnee Manor*
Whitley has been rereading the chat for the past two minutes and couldn’t believe how far Sun_Dragon and him have come from complete strangers to good friends. He originally gotten Instaspam as a way to entertain himself and share his musical taste to other musical enthusiasts. When one of his recommended came up one day and he saw a picture that immediately took his breath away. That was when first was introduced to Sun_Dragon. He saw at the time how people were bashing her for the honestly miss assumptions about her relationship with a friend. He couldn’t believe how others could be so ignorant and uncouth behavior they were treating the poor dear. He normally doesn’t try to engage in these types of topics but he knew he needed to say something that would let her know that not everyone was like these wolves who just enjoyed to harass her. From their their interactions developed then blossomed into the first genuine relationship he’s ever had.
Truthfully if he had to say, Sun_Dragon may have been his only friend. A friend that he had grown especially fond of. Whitley tried to reason that he was only had a small crush because of her majestic beauty, but soon he began to realize that he found everything about her wonderful, her personality, her casual attude and her plain honesty she told. He had never met a more genuine person than Sun_Dragon. The only problem he was worried about was if his age had worried her some, because being a underage minor made some who were female admirers scared off because of fear of being called a pedophile. However she seemed not too worried about the age gap as she was only two years older than him. That made his whole day when she told him that. Whitley was content for the most part with the screen conversations they had but soon he desired to step up the pace, to meet in person. Whitley was sure she would turn down his advances but surprisingly Sun_Dragon favored the idea as well and now brought him to this moment. In a mere few hours he will meet the woman of his dreams. So naturally he only had one response.
Whitley: YES!!! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes yes, yes! Whitley you’re a genius! Oh my gods! Thank you! Oh......this is officially the best day of my life.
So yes, he was excited.
*Trying something different just a bit of a side story, not canon to anything just a spoof or omake if you will. More for comedy than anything. Hope you all enjoy!*
