Plenty of angst, lack of communication, and feels. So, my favorite :) The current fic being updated in this series is Logan being Domestic while Wade flirts at him (and breaks his brain). I've been enjoying the heck out of it.

Jack decided to come home from the studio early to surprise you with the latest food you’ve been craving. He balances the food with one hand as he sticks the key in the door, turning the key, and pushing the door open. “Babe, I’m home!” he shouts as he makes his way to the kitchen setting the food and the keys on the counter. 

“Babe?” he looks around confused as he takes out his phone to see if you had texted him that you were going somewhere, it was not like you to not greet him when he came home, he was used to running into his arms with a huge smile on your face as you told him about your day and he would put his hand over your belly as he rubs it slightly as he talks to his baby boy.

When he sees no text from you, he assumes you’re just in the bedroom and didn’t hear him. He sets his phone on the counter before heading upstairs when he walks up to the door, he goes to knock but before he can, he hears you crying and a worried expression takes over his face as you might have hurt yourself and he rushes in to see you standing in front of the mirror with your hands on your stomach in nothing but your underwear, noticing the tears that were rolling down your cheeks. 

“What’s wrong?’ he questioned as he walked up to you, wrapping his arms around your stomach, rubbing it slightly. “Babe, I want you to be honest with me,” you sniffled as you lazily made eye contact with him in the mirror. “Yes baby, of course, I’m always honest with you.”

“Am I still attractive to you?” you looked down at your feet not wanting to see his reaction. Jack was surprised at your question, surprised at the fact that you would even think that there was a possibility for him not to be attracted to you. It makes him start to wonder if he wasn’t showing it enough to you and if he was in the studio too much. “Of course baby, why would you ever think that?” 

“Well for starters, none of my clothes fit me anymore now that I’m getting bigger. The maternity clothes are probably not sexy enough for you,” you fidget with your wedding ring as you talk.

“I have stretch marks now.” A frown forms on your face as your hands begin to rub against what you saw as problem areas. The marks ranged from your lower to mid stomach which made you feel insecure about wearing certain clothes around Jack because you didn’t want to amplify them and bring them to his attention. "And they look beautiful on you," you continue to avoid his eye contact not believing him.

“Hey… you want to know what I see?” he asked with a soothing voice. With a slight nod of your head, he brings a hand to your chin, lifting it gently so you can look at yourself in the mirror, “I see a very beautiful woman whose carrying our little bundle of joy,” he starts slowly tracing over your stretch marks as he continues to speak.

“Babe, you should not be ashamed of your stretch marks whether they stay or disappear, it’ll always be a reminder of you carrying our baby boy who would be happy to have you as his mother.” he wipes the tears away as he looks into your eyes as a small smile forms on your face, the same smile he fell in love with.

His eyes look down at your lips for a moment before looking back into your eyes as he bends down a bit so his lips can connect with yours, his hands still rubbing your swollen belly as your lips explored each other, the kiss was different than how you would normally kiss, it felt more soft and gentle. When you pull away from each other, you continue to look into the other's eyes, and a huge smile forms on his face. 

He got on his knees and faced your stomach as he laid kisses on each of your stretch marks and all you can do is smile and try to keep the new tears from falling down your face. “I loved your body before but I love it even more now that you’re pregnant and will forever love it for the rest of my life,” he kissed another one of your stretch marks and looked up at your loving smile that he fell in love with. 

You haven’t been more in love with him than at this moment, you knew that whenever you felt insecure about yourself, he’d come in and reassure you that you have nothing to worry about because in his eyes, you were perfect, you were the world to him.

“Come on, your food is getting cold,” he said as he got up off his knees, snaking an arm around your waist and pulling you closer to him as your eyes lit up. “You got me food?” he lets out a chuckle as he leads you downstairs, “Glad to see you back to your usual happy self.” he smiled as he looks down at you and you shoot him a smile back.

“Thanks to you, I love you so much,” once reaching the bottom step, he stops and brings you close to him as he shakes his head, “That’s impossible, I love you so much more.” you let out a chuckle and leaned more into his touch.

It was just something about him that made you feel safe whether it was his eyes or the smile that always knew how to bring you in, you couldn’t imagine life without him and he was the best thing to ever happen in your life and now you’re having a baby with him, a dream truly come true.

You just know that the baby will take after him with a father like Jack and a mother like you, he was going to be in good hands and both of you couldn’t wait for him to make his arrival.

John turned off the microphone and sighed. He placed it on the side table beside his armchair and sat back in an almost dark room.

Sherlock, John and Mariana had been working on another case.

It was quite late, so Mariana had gone to bed in 221 A. John had been in the sitting room of 221 B, ruminating about his podcasting skills to himself.

John looked at Sherlock - who was sitting in his armchair across the room with his eyes closed - and inevitably began to think the differences between the two of them.

Must be different, being so perfect at almost everything, John thought, continuing to gaze at Sherlock.

Perfect analytical and observational skills needed to solve the cases, perfect timbre of the voice, perfect enunciations, and...

John had obviously noticed it a million times before but now he had to admit it.

... Perfect looks.

Not that John was jealous of all that (okay, maybe a little, but not too much), but now and then he would think that he made a wrong career choice as a podcaster after having served as an army doctor.

Oftentimes he would think that maybe he was better off as a general practitioner now that he was a civillian himself.

A comparatively ordinary job, without anyone else to work for or with.

Would that life suit him better?

John furrowed his brow at those thoughts.

"I won't be able to sleep if you keep your eyes on me the whole night," said Sherlock with his eyes still closed.

John parted his lips and got up from his chair, feeling heated around his face. "Oh, sorry. I'll, er, I'll just go upstairs. You should go to bed too, mate. Aren't you - aren't you uncomfortable here?"

John mentally kicked himself for stuttering yet again.

"No, stop. I could hear you thinking from across the room, just now." Sherlock finally opened his eyes and sat straight on his chair, looking at John intensely. "There is something on your mind, Watson. I need to know what."

John was taken aback by the kind of intensity he saw in Sherlock's eyes. He gave in. "Well, it's just that..." he trailed off.

A brief silence fell in the room as Sherlock and John locked their eyes together. Sherlock got up from his chair and walked over to John so he could be close to him.

"What is it?" Sherlock prompted.

"Am I doing this right?" John finally spoke, taking in irregular breaths.

"Doing what right?" Sherlock was looking at him with confusion.

"This whole podcast thing. I mean, I make it so awkward for our listeners sometimes. And half of the time my jokes don't even seem to land well." John gesticulated widely. "And, um, even after all that editing and cutting out the extra bits, the end result isn't flawless. It's so messy and imperfect."

Sherlock stared at John blankly for a moment. He then opened his arms wide looking at him with an awkward face. "Is it okay if we..."

John caught on. "Uh, yeah, sure," he said with his brow knitted.

They both wrapped their arms around each other. John's one arm was around his waist, and he ran his other arm over Sherlock's back. Sherlock's arms were around his shoulders.

John managed to place his chin on Sherlock's shoulder and sighed.

"The end result is not what we listen to," Sherlock began in a calm voice in John's ear. "The end result is the response of our listeners. How is it?"

John smiled. "Really good, so far, overall."

"There you go."

John felt Sherlock smile against his right shoulder.

They let each other go, but they were still holding hands, looking at each other deeply in the eye.

"Even if that weren't the case, I would not have cared."

"And why is that?" John asked, still looking at his friend with a smile.

"Because I like you as you are."

John chuckled, followed by Sherlock.

John turned around to make his way to his bedroom, already feeling loads better than before.

So, over the time I've come back here, I've become pretty confident and proud of my once hidden passion about sick characters, sickfics and sick comfort/whump... 🌡️

And you all have been so supportive and sweet despite my weirdness so I thank you for that. You helped me feel more confident in my otherwise weird fixation <3 So, for my birthday I thought I'd try and make up a little drawing challenge for anyone who wants to give it a try... There are soo many talented artists on this site (and in this fandom)

So... It's your turn to target your faves now. You will see how fun it is and hopefully understand why I love doing it so much. 😈🌡️

If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!

Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:

Pajamas or Loungewear

Messy Bed Hair

Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose

Tired Eye bags

Shivery body

Ice Pack or a Compress on the head

Thermometer sticking from their mouth

LOTS OF BLANKETS

Tissues or medicine surrounding them

Tea or Soup (or both)

Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!

You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.

The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<

Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<

So, genuine question. Do Betas Nest? Like, I got stoned last night and started nesting. While I was reading your fic (by coincidence, lol. I'm am always scrolling that A/B/O tag on here). I was thinking about which second gender i would be. I feel I would either fit Beta or Alpha (going off my Build, my general manners, and mental fortitude), but then I nest. I started thinking and had the thought that only omegas was nest, but I wasn't sure. So I thought maybe would Gaz or Soap nest?

The easy answer, yes in a way.

Nesting in its natural form is exclusive to omegas. The emotional fulfillment and heightened sense of comfort and just the meaning of a nest won't happen in alphas or betas since nests are omegas' safe spaces. It's where they sleep, it's where they mate, it's where they're most comfortable. (That's why there's that moment in the latest chapter where Soap asks if it's okay that he and Gaz are in reader's nest, even though it's not really a rest.) Usually one has to be invited in, as breaching that space, just like with the room itself, can cause a lot of damage. It's making a safe space not so safe anymore. (Of course the asterisk there is in the case of emergencies, which distress counts as an emergency.)

That being said, there's no reason why betas and alphas couldn't make themselves a nest. It wouldn't be a nest in the sense of what it means to an omega, but some cozy blankets and pillows arranged on the bed in a way that's satisfying to them? Hell yeah. Why not?

I think out of all of them, Soap would be the most likely to nest too. He already sleeps with a stuffed animal, so I could see him breaking out the blankies and extra pillows and making himself a little comfort spot when he needed it. There would be nothing stopping them from doing it. It just wouldn't have that extra layer of meaning that it has for omegas. 💚

On top of the other reasons I said I don't like things, you do actually have to convince me 6 times outta 10 if you want me to read a Homestuck fic in the third person. There is just something to the flavor of 2nd person that hits different. There is a reason different perspectives exist, and I think they can all be utilized well, but something about that classic, well-patterned "you, and then you" just gets me, you know?

you don't have to answer this, but I just wanted to know how you write longform fics or just long pieces in general. it's one of the things I've struggled with as a writer, and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how I could go about it or do it.

I'd be so grateful if you could provide some advice or suggestions 🥹🥹

i want u to know that i saw this ask when u sent it, but i had a 5hr drive today and wanted to make sure i had time to answer this!! it's under the cut bc i yapped a bit <33

so one thing that i feel the need to say up top is that i never go into pieces with a "goal" length/word count (often times my fics end up being longer than i expected/intended). because i never really write with the goal of a specific length in mind, these are things that i think have helped me write more cohesive and narratively fulfilling pieces in general, which tends to make my fics longer

my first thing is planning/outlining!! i used to just write my fics start to finish in one go with little to no planning, and since i've started slowing down and taking my time outlining/planning beforehand (and even during the drafting process i continue adding to my outline), i've seen the average lengths of my fics go up a lot. you don't have to have every single scene, moment, and piece of dialogue planned out before start writing (lord knows i never do), but you should have a pretty good idea of the major story beats, character dynamics, and any important conflicts, and make sure it's written down in a way that's easy for you to refer back to while you write. never think you're gonna keep it all in your head

build out your characters' lives!! i love introducing a good b-plot involving the main character's friends (see: strawberry sunday) that doesn't take too much attention away from the main plot that it seems out of place, but instead complements the main plot and allows there to be space in between those major plot beats for the readers and the characters to breathe. it also helps make your characters feel more well-rounded and real to the readers if you throw in a scene of their daily life at school or work or with their friends/family both to add texture to them but also to your world. it can also be good to use an establishing scene towards the beginning of their daily life, then a similar one towards to the end that shows any character development, or some other impactful change that happened during your story. instead of just telling us that everything in your character's life changed, show us how it did (or didn't! or maybe it only changed a little, but the little change was important, too)

in a similar vein, build out your world!! im not saying to spend ten pages describing an intricate magic system to us that has little bearing on the plot itself, but feel free to weave in extra details about where/when we are and how the characters interact (or dont!) with the world around them (even if its our normal old world in the modern day)

and i mean i guess my last thing that's really helped me is just sort of getting out my head when it comes to writing? like, not forcing myself to write everyday, not having any sort of word count goals, no posting schedule, etc. just letting myself sit with my ideas for a while and really play around and have fun with them. it's made writing fic something that i look forward to doing when i come from work, or when the weekend is approaching, and i genuinely am making probably my favorite things that i've ever made right now. and they happen to be pretty long!!

to a certain degree, i understand people justifying izzy's death through saying it's narratively cohesive or it makes sense thematically. cause like from the way they set up his arc i could def see a conclusion in which he dies and it is narratively satisfying (don't get me wrong id still be heartbroken, but it COULD work thematically) but only if it was given the proper amount of TIME. a SIGNIFICANT amount of time. like that shit shouldve been saved for the s3 finale.

there are good thematic foundations in the beginning of s3. lots of foreshadowing and initial new character arcs that were intriguing. but people are picking up on those foundations and justifying the later actions of the show based on the themes that were set up initially. but the problem is that the show skipped right to the payoff of those foundations. and when you cut out the middle man, you lose the entire story. all you're left with is those initial themes and then a cut straight to the conclusion.

especially in the case of izzy, this leaves a LOT of bad implications since his arc was so sensitive and required so much more care than it was given. and like im not just focusing on him cause i like his tits (i do like his tits tho dgmw). a story arc so sensitive about a character becoming disabled as he struggles with abuse, alcoholism, and suicide cannot be rushed like that. the other arcs were disappointing, but this one honestly felt harmful. and thats such a shame.

imo it's a problem of too many good ideas and too little time to execute them, as so many shows being released recently are. and thats especially common in ensemble heavy tv like OFMD. i can see what they were trying to do, and of course i want all the characters to be developed and have their own stories. but when you're making an ensemble story, you have to go into it knowing that there are certain areas you just won't be able to cover because of time. that isn't to say you can't have an ensemble show that develops everyone well and thoroughly, but you should also be cognizant of whether the stories you want to tell REALLY NEED the extra time you might not have. and thats where s2 failed i think :(

i still love OFMD, and frankly, i didn't hate season 2. there were a lot of aspects and new characters that were very strong (zheng in particualr is ICONIC and might be my new favorite character). i commend the writers and actors for the work they did in creating it, especially under the conditions that eventually led to the strike. and frankly, if the first and only people you blame for an unsuccessful season of a show are the writers, you probably have a very skewed idea of how TV is created and released. but like its okay to critique the things u love while acknowledging that

I'm also doing both Sarissa (Dragon Age/solavellan) and Maevris (BG3/durgetash) because some of these I feel like i have answers for one and not the other. Sometimes both.

A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)

Sarissa: very clingy, touchy snuggling. Like, every square inch of skin on skin contact available clingy. Like, stay locked in an embrace in the same position you were in at the end for hours kind of snuggling. Probably very much "okay now stroke my hair and tell me you love me" vibes. Not a "okay now we're done see you later" kind of person. She's gonna stay there for ages afterwards hugging and saying dorky cute things.

In terms of Sarissa: i kind of alluded to this in the latest chapter, and i have more in depth stuff about it in my character notes. She was like 20 when the Inquisition started and very... not exactly introverted, but it's hard to go have a normal life in your clan when you don't have any family and you're basically the heir to the person taking care of everyone? She's got Aang in the air temple syndrome kinda. She didn't really get opportunities to explore relationships before the Inquisition, let alone anything physical. So, when she leaves home and starts hooking up for the first time with the well mannered hobo apostate elf and he ends up... doing what he does. Well. It certainly adds an extra layer of betrayal and sting to the situation (: She did try to date around a bit (or at least rebound) after the whole Trespasser thing but. Well. Trauma and trust issues (((: i promise i love her i just have to Put Her Through It

F = Favourite Position

Mae is 100% a pillow princess. Okay. So her favorite positions are going to be anything that lets her sit back and let someone else drive. Idk if that counts towards positions necessarily but there you go. Sarissa's favorites are again gonna be anything super touchy and close and clingy. She would probably very much prefer to be facing her partner and very entangled.

G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc)

Sarissa is 100% a little goofy. Mostly in terms of like. Bad jokes and innuendos and anything a little silly. Mae is probably a little more serious, just by virtue of being a lot more no nonsense (especially when Gortash is doing something she considers nonsense (like flirting with her while she pretends to be unbothered)).

H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)

Iirc, elves in Dragon Age don't have a lot of body hair to begin with (comparatively). But Sarissa is Dalish, so. Like yeah she's very on top of her hygiene (you have to be when you're outside 95% of your life) but. She would be very much natural in terms of hair. Whatever amount is natural for elves i guess.

For Mae, idk enough about tiefling biology to know about their body hair, but all the tiefs I've seen in the game are pretty hairless? And while yeah she might not bat an eye at being covered in blood and guts, she does have meticulous personal hygiene routines. And very extra ones. She's a cult leader and part god and her boyfriend probably has multiple mansions with the finest bath oils and soaps and etc etc. She's pampered as fuck in that aspect.

I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…)

Oh yeah, the romantic aspect is my bread and butter baybee. They're both very emotionally and romantically driven in the moment, though Mae is more loathe to admit it. For Sarissa, it's more of a giggly, butterflies, "you are my person and i just want to be with you all the time" kind of intimacy, whereas for Maevris it's more like. This crushing need to be touched, to be held, to have sweet words of affirmation and affection whispered to her. To be cared for and wanted. Like an anchor, like clinging onto a lifeboat in the middle of an insanely awful and fucked up storm.

J = Jack Off (Masturbation headcanon)

This is another thing i just don't really think about for asexual reasons lol. But going off vibes alone first thought without really considering much detail? Sarissa not really, Maevris sometimes maybe?

K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)

Maevris my beloved you are never going to escape the praise kink allegations if i have anything to say about it. Also the bratty allegations. More on that later maybe?

L = Location (Favourite places to do the deed)

For Sarissa, my first thought was "probably in nature, that would make sense right" but on further thought. I think a picturesque outdoors spot would be a lovely idea to her, but the most enticing aspect of any location would probably be the privacy. Which is hard to get outdoors. Growing up Dalish you learn not to take privacy for granted, so having her own private quarters in Haven and in Skyhold to do ~whatever~ she wanted was a very welcome novelty. Not to say she was above indulging in other locations, though.

For Maevris, probably those big fancy satiny luxurious beds Enver has. Like, we saw the temple of Bhaal. That bedroom isn't shabby. But the unnecessarily lavish and showy and decadent beds Enver has (for impressing company and not himself, we know damn well that man will sleep curled up in his workshop if it's just him) are...something else. A bit like stepping into a different world.

M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)

I saved this one for last bc it was stumping me the most and im still at a loss for like. Specific turn ons? I guess? But in general for Sarissa it would be the kinds of things that give her butterflies and catch her off guard in sweet ways. Like hearing Solas refer to her as his anything (partner, love, vhenan, etc etc) to someone else would make her insides do a little happy dance; hearing him say it directly to her in a ~private moment~ would short circuit her brain (in a good way). Innocent little things like a hand on her back as he passes, bringing her something she didn't realize she needed. He's probably got a lot of court rizz that would set her insides on fire when he used it. For Mae, i think she likes the challenge; or specifically, being the challenge. Very "what are you gonna do about it" "oh yeah? prove it" kind of girl. Homegirl wants to be cornered like a hare and she wants to sass the fox the whole time. This is all a bit of a front to hide the fact that she just wants someone else to be in control and tell her she's a good girl.

N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)

Sarissa's would be multiple people at once. Threesomes and such wouldn't be her vibe. My soft girl also wouldn't be super comfortable with anything rough or harsh. For Mae, i know this puts me in the minority for durges, but anything to do with like. Sexualizing her specifically for the murder and violence aspect? That's her day job, she is taking over the family business but not bc she's super passionate about her work. Not that the violence and blood itself is the turn off part of that, but feeling like she's almost being used as someone else's fantasy? She's above that. She's a child of a god and she's the Chosen of a god. She's nobody's bucket list lay.

O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)

I'm positive there's a tweet somewhere from Patrick Weekes saying that Solas definitely eats out so. There's that for Sarissa. But I haven't given it a ton of thought ig. I will say that as far as Mae's concerned? Gale isn't the only ambitious Chosen in Baldur's Gate with a practiced tongue. (as i may have written in this fic)

P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)

All i can think to say for pace is that Mae is definitely very needy. Like, desperate bucking kind of needy. Idk if that counts as pace?

Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)

I don't think either of them would be opposed to it vs like, something long and drawn out and w/e? It would probably be depend on the situation but i doubt either of them would be super against it?

R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)

I am certain Solas learned a lot of neat tricks in his "explorations of the Fade" and Sarissa is definitely down to learn. For Maevris, i feel like it almost goes without saying that any durgetash pairing is gonna have a very high tolerance for risk.

S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)

Uhhh. No idea. Their stamina is however long i can write without running out of new words for penis, i guess.

T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)

This is another one i just haven't really put much thought into for ace reasons. But for Mae at least, i feel like if you date an artificer, there's gonna be some kind of invention or tool brought in eventually...?

U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)

Ahahaha did i mention that Mae is kind of bratty? Did you check out the fic I linked earlier? Not so much that she likes to tease, but that she has. A certain enjoyment in pretending to be annoyed at Enver's teasing. And in being vocal about not going along with it while she's very enthusiastically going along with it

V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)

Let me plug another fic for Mae to say that she has no problem being loud and no problem being heard by others. With the right inducement, that is.

W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice)

Sarissa is definitely aspec. She has a lot of parts of my personal experience and make up and that's one of them.

Okay so when i think of yearning, i think of the soul crushing, deep seated emotional need for someone that feels like your throat is closing up and you need them like you need to breathe. Which is definitely Mae when she lets herself be a little more vulnerable. For Sarissa, depending heavily on the point in her story, it's less all encompassing inescapable yearning and more touchy, constant hand holding/arm linking/hugging yearning and definitely "okay but if i do get you alone i wouldn't say no to anything that meant being closer to you."

Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)

Sarissa is gonna be snrk mimimi not long after most times. She is also not going to let go. We're going to bed now, comrade kinda deal.

About the twinklify the twink? That's why I don't go full Dreamling. I have nothing against it, but they way they get twisted 90% of the times is just "uhh that not my Dream" for me. And same with all the Dark Morpheus x f/m reader. "That's not my Morpheus" and it's ok, because a) fanfiction keeps the media alive until the next piece we can get and b) fanfiction keeps people alive too, no matter what they picture. So, it's ok to feel like this, I guess.

I think that's the main takeaway from this. YKINMK after all. I'm a firm believer of "do what you want always" though of course, that doesn't mean you should be free from criticism, it just means maybe don't take criticism to heart ya know? This doesn't mean people should go onto others posts and fanfics and complain! God no! But people should be allowed to complain in their own posts - so long as anything particularly harsh isn't put in the main tags or is tagged accordingly. Like of course people aren't always gonna love everything you do, and sometimes when certain headcanons and ideas get bastardised by fanon echo chambers they become so far removed from canon that you are basically writing an OC with your fave characters face, but that's okay if it brings you joy. Just don't expect everyone to love and adore it ya know?

The problem I have with the extra twinkification of characters in ship dynamics is that I have a problem with m/m ships being twisted so far away from their canon counterparts that one party becomes obviously "feminine" and the other obviously "masculine". By which I mean one character is made extra skinny frail and delicate, submissive, virginal, pure, and always ALWAYS the bottom. The other character becomes huge and muscular and hairy and masculine, and take the role of protector and dominating and experienced and is ALWAYS the top.

Do you see what I mean? This has been prevailent in fandom culture since day 1 of course, and its a huge pet peeve of mine. I do view it as somewhat problematic because it feels like trying to fit a mlm ship into a heternormative box. Its a layered mess of misogyny and homophobia wrapped up in a fandom bow. It was worse years ago, during the SuperWhoLock days, and I will forever be grateful to Misha Collins for beefing up so much he enabled Cas to beat the effeminate twink allegations (knowing Mollins he probably came across a particularly bad fanfic or fanart and then spent several hours staring at himself in a mirror before throwing himself into an intensive gym routine).

I don't think its too prevailent in Dreamling fics, though I guess when you have a whole episode devoted to showing how Dream is pale, thin, beautiful, ethereal, completely hairless, and trapped, its easy to see why fandoms minds went to "twink" and then to "we need to find him a saviour". But I do wish the power dynamic would be a bit more balanced. Dream is no wilting flower. He is all pure lean muscle. He is no frail delicate thing. He has the body of a long distance marathon runner. He is power and self righteousness and fury and control. Yeah, he may be submissive with his lovers, but he's hardly inexperienced.

Hob is also in no way a macho man. He's hairy sure, but that's basically it. He actually isn't all that more muscular than Dream, he's only slightly broader, and he's not taller - I think they are the same height? Again, to stress, people can do what they want always. But please do take time to branch outside of the fandom echo chambers and refamiliarise yourself with canon once in a while. Especially when those echo chambers are leaning towards problematic dynamics like those mentioned above.

This is by no means a dig at any individuals, at any creative works I have come across or anything else of the sort. I just sometimes find the fanon echo chambers and widely accepted headcanons a bit irritating, especially when they don't fit with canon. It's fine on a small scale. I am not the person who is gonna comment "he would not fucking say that" because its mean and those posts are mean. It's when the whole fandom seems to adopt certain ideas, and suddenly any deviation from those ideas seems wrong to fandom at large. It becomes difficult to counter those ideas without suddenly being labelled a hater. Look at all the ridiculous discourse in Good Omens fandom because of how deeply far removed from the original source material the fandom took the characters over the 4 year gap between seasons? They were literally going into Neil Gaimans inbox complaining when season 2 deviated from widely accepted fanon headcanons! To the point that Neil had to clarify that what they were complaining about was never canon to begin with!!

Anyway, this post is probably controversial enough without me prattling on any further. Let me stress one last time that you can do what you want always, and everyone should be able to play in the sandbox however they want - just please check yourselves and your prejudices and do consider if the tropes you are encouraging have any harmful implications before throwing yourself into them.

He knows. How does he know!? I’ve only known him for, what, a few hours? Am I that easy to read? Oh god, when Mr. Fyre and Ms. Monsley find out they’re going to kill me.

L: Like he doesn’t understand what training means. Then, I have the strange thought that maybe their version of training is different than Ms. Monsley’s.

M:

My eyebrows shoot up. That was…childish.

A shocked, startled laugh comes out of Null. Apparently, I had said that aloud.

N: Nulls raises his hand, only speaking once Mr. Merced gives him an affirmative nod. “That’s not a lot of time to prepare. Why so sudden?” He asks. It's startling how serious he sounds. All joking, laid backness is gone from his voice. This is Null.

O: Of course. They–a Hero that has good cause to get revenge, a Hero that can sense emotions, and Null, too, I guess–are the ones I’m meant to be working with. Is it even possible for me to have worse luck?

P: Patrick lets the audience laugh for a moment, then he says, “Now, Verse, I can't speak for the audience, but I will when I say we've all been wanting to know one question. What is your powerset?”

Q: Right, the mission. I nod, silently returning to my area. I can practically feel the stares of the others on my back, and a quick glance back confirms it. Exorcist isn’t even trying to hide that she’s staring.

R: Right. The DNA sample that I definitely knew about and am totally not just finding out about right now. By the way, let's give a big round of applause to Ms. Monsley and Mr. Fyre for always keeping me in the loop.

That leaves Exorcist without anything else to say, and she huffs, crossing her arms and turning away.

Emote's eyes flicker to me and I mentally prepare myself for a lecture, but Null lets out a snort of laughter–at my expense, no doubt–and Emote swivels her head to face him instead.

U: “Uh, Emote, Exorcist?” I call out as they start to leave the table we had gathered around. They turn, expectantly. “I was wondering if I could, uh, grab your powers now?”

V: “Verse, I really don't think you respect me. And that bothers me, because I am someone who deserves to be respected. So, watch your tone,” he pauses then and I can't bring myself to look him in the eyes.

W: A thought strikes me suddenly: how would any other child react? Would they throw a tantrum? Would they cry? Would they forgive me like Caleb?

X: For good measure–extra humiliation–she puts the sharp point to my throat. It digs in with a small prick of pain, letting out a bead of blood.

Y: “You’ve been contacted by ASPI. They want you to be involved with a mission. There weren’t many details, just a time and place for a briefing meeting, and a list of the other Heroes you’ll be working with.”

Z: I’ve been threatened by enough scary women to make me ready to back off–explanation be damned– but Emote stops me before I can even start to apologize.

Okay I know this is old news or whatever but I am so mad about how much hate the artist/author of Boyfriends on WEBTOON gets.

From when I was more into the comic, the main reason ppl had to be upset at the person were:

A) They drew BTS nsfw art in their teens

B) They fetishized trans men

C) The characters are all Asian and do not look Asian

D) They had the nerd say he was a proshipper

These reasons are honestly so bad to me. Idk if anyone else has extra info or maybe something else he did was bad, but I’m going to explain why I think these are such bad reasons.

1. BTS nsfw art

I’m just going to come out and say it’s bad to write or draw fanart/fanfics of any real person if they haven’t given consent to. It’s different from characters because these are Real People with real emotions and such. And yeah, that wasn’t good. But a couple things. They stopped drawing it around 17-19. For some people that’s way too old to be drawing that, and many think that it’s an attempt at an excuse.

I don’t think that’s the case. I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve seen online of people having bombastic crushes on singers and actors and doing the most heinous shit because they were teenagers. Teenagers just Do That. Yes it’s creepy, but many people go through a phase of having to learn how to seperate fiction from reality and it’s in your teen years. It’s not odd, and I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to consider that a 17-18-19 year old would learn that and send out an apology. I mean our brains apparently don’t even develop till 25. There was also one point that many believed that the artist actually liked someone else’s nsfw BTS art recently, but I saw the post they liked and in my opinion…I had no idea who tf they were drawing. I’m not into BTS but I’ve seen pictures and if I was just scrolling one day and saw it I’d like the post. I don’t remember any BTS specific tags or a BTS related caption. Maybe the entire account was about that and so they didn’t feel the need for tags but I have no idea.

2) They fetishized trans men

Writing four trans men acting stupid and cringy in college and having healthy relationships and discussing boundaries and consent in a polyamorous relationship is not fetishizing. The artist himself is a trans man.

Sidebar, many critiques also center around the unrealistic portrayal of four ppl being in one polyamorous relationship together which honestly? Who cares if it’s unrealistic, it’s a good portrayal and it’s a romance, why can’t gays just have a happy story for once.

3) The characters are all Asian and do not look Asian

Hey, I didn’t know they were Asian either. I mean, I figured jock was but not the others. But honestly it’s not that big a deal. They’re the only four characters in the entire series I believe( other than their girl counterparts) and I’m sure if there was another character that wasn’t Asian we’d be able to tel. But even then, many many comics have a similar simplistic artstyle online, and race and ethnicity are not always obvious. Also the artist is Filipino, so I really doubt there’s anything iffy going on there.

4) Nerd is a proshipper

There’s nothing bad about thinking fiction ≠ reality and that you can act independently of the fiction you consume. Most people irl are proship without realizing it. Most literature is proship, because it explores every single aspect of storytelling. Antis really have not chosen the best hill to die on.

I think the easiest to get into IS like. private commission work. The usual "drawing ocs or fandom stuff" for people. It requires a lot of self marketing- building a platform, making your art a desirable object. Im planning personally 2 open comms again after my current gig is done, and ive been hearing good stuff about the small business options osuuspankki offers- re: being able to do the billing via paypal &helping w the taxing which makes overseas work a LOT easier to figure out. I cant swear on them personally tho since i have not used their services before, but i can give more info in abt a month when Im planning on looking into them more! So. Online market yourself. (you can ask further on this but this post would be too long if i get into that, also im not like a master of this), commission work. PRICE YOUR STUFF RIGHT, Look into how long it takes you to make your pieces and create an approx. price based on your hours spent working. And then price higher.

As for a lot of the stuff i do&post about here. I personally DID start w education, which, i am incredibly lucky I could. I studied graphic design/illustration in Ikaalinen, its a really great school which i can recommend if that is an option for you. I could talk abt it more but I think the main things i got from that education was a) making connections b) learning how printing works which is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. If you want to work in book illustrations which i have done, I recommend looking into the technical aspects of printing on your own. You can learn it online definetly. As for connections, thats a little tougher, but really anything beyond for me has been. Just making a portfolio & CV and emailing and asking for work. Its tedious and annoying but yeah.. Other options im aware of for illustration work is like. in advertizing (though its kinda rare to do ILLUSTRATION), game companies (theres a lot of other stuff you need 2 learn there tho)... Ik some ppl sell their illustrated products eg. stickers, prints etc, but idk anything abt that section. In finland its rly tough bc you rly dont. I like got curious and just googled "kuvitus töitä" and yeah theres just Nothing. It is abt looking for where illustrations could be (looking for small book publishers, looking for childrens books writers specifically and reaching out to them, etc etc) and reaching out and being a pushy bitch its AWFUL its my least favourite part of this job but it is. hello, I read your latest könig fic where reader own a bed and breakfast, it was an interesting concept and your writing is very good. However I did notice that you have the fic labeled as gender neutral at the top, but you seem to have subconsciously given the reader some fem characteristics. You had König call reader a "maid turned housewife" and then described how their customers slip extra money into their *purse*. You also generally kept implying them to be very petite, physically weak, and very small in build, which is usually how female reader inserts are described.

I'm not pointing this out to be rude, I just want to help make sure everyone tags and labels things correctly. It's pretty common for a fic to be labeled as "gender neutral" but then keeps describing the reader with feminine language/fem characteristics, which is sometimes a little disappointing that it doesn't *really* seem to be gender neutral. It can make some people a little uncomfortable if they weren't expecting it (mainly nonbinaries and male readers). I'm not discouraging you, your writing was actually good! I'm just saying it would be nice if you could be careful to avoid using feminine traits to describe gender neutral readers, or if not then just label the whole thing as Fem reader if you don't want to change it. that way readers that are not women will know to just scroll past if it wasn't written for them. It is widely assumed that König is 6'10, and he is evidently very muscular; therefore, any average person would be dwarfed by not just his height ans his weight, but also his build. That is the reason for the reader being depicted as "petite" — regardless of one's height and weight (the typical consensus).

The inspiration for this was Four In A Bed (A British competition show, of B&B hosts showcasing their accommodation and being rated by other hosts, all broadcast on TV — trust, it's really good! 😇🙏) , and from the episodes that *I* have watched, I am yet to see a muscular person, and/or a person whose height could be compared to König's.

People tended to have average height, some slightly taller, some slightly smaller, so I attempted to keep the height neither too tall (6'6ft+) nor too short (>5ft).

People tended not to be muscular nor overtly strong, given that most ordered produce and had only cooking, washing up, cleaning, and dusting to do. These are not activities where you exert yourself, so for reader to carry the rucksack upstairs — to König, likely weighing nothing, 50kgs+ at least — would have been a tasking endeavour.

Am I saying a B&B owner can be neither tall nor strong? No. But in order to cater to everyone while adding some humour into the fanfiction, I have made their body type ambiguous.

I doubted (at the time of writing) that König would know the male ver. of "housewife" and "maid", and in particular, gender-neutral terms of said nouns, as German is stressed not to have gender-neutral terms. I acknowledged at the time of writing that this was leaning towards a female reader, but it seemed to me that this is what König would say in this situation as a creepy joke. I mean, I guess this isn't really a good point, but if fandoms can call males "babygirl" and "housewife", even as a joke, is it not possible that said males would actually enjoy such positions as it brings them pride to contribute in domesticities?

Purses are not strictly for females. Despite these being widely attributed to females, men (and anyone who identifies as non binary/non conforming/etc) can carry them. I used "purse" in this context not due to me leaning to a female reader, but because I tend to associated these with carrying coins as opposed to stacks of bills, which personally painted a funny image in my mind :'); like, these twentys and fiftys protruding out of a purse designed to carry ~£400 at most. "Wallet" (to me) is where one keeps their credit/debit card[s], bills, coins, photographs, etc. A wallet (in my eyes) had too big of a capacity to contain bills in comparison to a purse, especially when taking into consideration that the B&B is in the "semi-countryside", implying that, while busy, it won't be packed with guests everyday (at least, that is the assumption I made when including this).

It is not customers, but the four soldiers that I hinted at (intended to be TF141, but it is a matter of motivation as to whether I ever decide to write their ver. ... 🥲). To state that it is customers could insinuate various things (especially about the female reader you claim) — they "slip money in their purse" as a token of gratitude for such homely service (regardless of their gender). A person can offer a traditional domestic experience without necessarily conforming to those attributes, and doing so in order to solely accommodate for their target demographic.

However, you will also notice that my post[s] is/are tagged with not only a gender-neutral reader, but a female and male. These do not influence my writing — I include these various tags in order to cater to everyone (and to have, in theory, more peope read it lolol 😝) While you could argue I have bias towards including female characteristics, I still proofread my work carefully and consider whether that word or that statement is gender-neutral? and if not, is there a reason?

However, as I type this now I realise it is impossible to cater to everybody. Yet, I will continue doing so, as some my mutuals are not all strictly female/male, but rather non conforming to gender norms, and it is important for me that they feel included too. But, with the that said, my fanfictions are not just written for non binary/non conforming individuals; they are written for EVERYONE! ✨🙌

Still, I cannot be expected to understand all of the nuances, eventhough I do my due diligence to try. If you, as a reader, feel uncomfortable reading any of my fanfictions, because they are not gender ambiguous enough, then you can always stop reading, and look for a more suitable one!! :'))
