"we need more aroace characters" actually we need more aro characters. like just aro because every time a character is aroace the aro part of their identity is conveniently forgotten

in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."
like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.
when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it — representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.
media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it — obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.
which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)
any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

ik I’ve already shared many star wars thoughts today and this may be an unpopular opinion but like ... I kinda hope we don’t get din being paired off with a love interest at any point in the series. I know that we’ve already had canonical romantically inclined moments between him and omera and obviously I’m very much a dinluke and dincobb shipper but in terms of actual canon I much prefer the prospect of din just never needing to be placed in a romantic relationship? maybe it’s just me being aroace on main but there’s something quite gratifying about having a character whose story doesn’t have to involve romance to be ‘interesting’ or whatever and having relationships with other characters that are equally as - if not more - compelling than romantic ones. I think it’s refreshing to have stories in media that aren’t saturated with romance and instead with these more familial bonds and platonic friendships that work so much better than having characters be thrown together into a romance that just feels inauthentic. and personally I think that giving din a love interest would ultimately subtract from the character growth and development arcs he’s already currently going through and the familial relationship he has with grogu. like here’s a man who is grappling with religion, fatherhood and the unexpected responsibility of leading a culture still reeling from the effects of genocide and throwing a romance arc in there just doesn’t make a lot of sense (plus media does not always have a good track record in regard to prioritising romance above all else). listen I just think we have a perfect opportunity here for a character to just ... not be expected to fall into a romantic relationship (and who could maybe even be aroace) and I don’t want favroni and lucasfilm to fuck it up by throwing him into a conventional romance arc alright.

I HATE seeing some "nuances" about Alastor when it comes to "do / don't do this with Alastor"
And most of it's just "don't ship Alastor with xyz cause he's AroAce" or "Do it anyways!!'
And listen I'm more on the side of "do it anyways" but honestly there's something I see only a couple times
Which is he could entirely date and have sex
But what would that mean?
I'm VERY aro, but I also have 2 partners
And a lot of things that happen in my life is just me going "wait WHAG-" when something turns out to be seen as "flirty" by me or someone was flirting with me
So it's entirely possible for him to be flirty with people and just *not* have a single clue that's post to be flirting, and just him thinking he's being nice
And well I do want to see that more !
Cases of AroAce characters doing things without acknowledging them as sexual/romantic
Alastor doesn't know what "ace in a hole" means and most likely doesn't know what an AroAce is, or grasp the concept of either one.
He HATES new age things and still talks about things and like he's still in HIS time
So it would still make sense for him to maybe go on dates or even have sex, he just doesn't get much out of it
And I want to see that!
Let me see him do all the things and not get it! Let him say shit that just sounds like he hates things but acts like it's nonsense to hate them as "it's a man's will" or whatever
Let me see this man be himself on his own terms
Our idea of an AroAce is new, our idea that you don't NEED a partner is new, our idea is self is new
Let me see him figure out how love works for him
