Generally, whilst I have preferences, I don’t actually have recommendations. My main note is that Steilsson is not a real icelandic surname.

Personally, the name I use for Iceland, who, keep in mind is a woman, is Hrafnhildur Ingólfsdóttir. With Ingólf being a reference to the founder of Iceland, and it also being a name I stole from @nordickies

But let’s talk more about Icelandic names in general.

Iceland has a very specific naming system, and in an attempt to preserve the ancient feel to icelandic, a name can only be given if it makes sense and can adjust to Icelandic phonetics. And even people who would like to move to Iceland will have to change their name to fit in with the Icelandic naming custom. I use this website to get almost all of the names I use for my characters, providing name statistics, when the name first came into use, and it also has a list of names banned of use in Iceland. (It also tells you about the other nordic languages, including Greenlandic, Faroese & Sámi.)

In terms of icelandic surnames, I’m sure we’ve all seen a post about it floating around somewhere on the internet. But if anyone is unfamiliar, icelandic uses the patronymic naming system. A surname is composed of the genetive form of your father (or very rarely mother’s) first name, and adding “son” or “dóttir” depending on whether a person is a man or a woman.

A lot of people’s instinct is to just add an S onto the father’s name to creative the genetive form, and whilst that is true for some names, there are some exceptions, which generally follow the trend of:

- if a name ends with the letter “A”, the genetive form will end with a “U”, EX: the genetive form of “Sturla” will be “Sturlu”, so if you wanted to use it for Iceland’s surname, you would be wanting to use “Sturluson” rather than “Sturla(s)son”

- if a name ends with the letter “I”, the genetive form will end with an “A”, EX: the genetive form of “Ari” will be “Ara”, so if you wanted to use it for Iceland’s surname, you would be wanting to use “Arason” rather than “Ari(s)son”

- if a name ends with the letters “UR”, the genetive form will usually replace the “UR” with an “S”, rather than adding it on, EX: the genetive form of “Hjörleifur” will be “Hjörleifs”, so if you wanted to use it for Iceland’s surname, you would be wanting to use “Hjörleifsson” rather than “Hjörleifur(s)son”

I have found some exceptions to this, where the “UR” is sometimes replaced with “AR” instead. The name “Hrafnhildur” would become “Hrafnhildar” instead of “Hrafnhilds”. With some names, both are acceptable, so the name “Sigurður” could either become “Sigurðs” or “Sigurðar”.

If a name already ends in an “S”, the genetive form would not change, EX: the name “Hans” would still be “Hans” in genetive form, so as a surname it would be “Hansson.”

Again, there are some exceptions to this, where you would add “AR” to the end of the name. And with some names, you could use either. The name “Jóhannes” could either stay the same, or it would become “Jóhannesar”

As far as I’m aware, those are the only ends where the genetive would’ve just be to add an S, but I do not know every icelandic name and it’s genetive. If you are unsure, the website that I linked prior will tell you the genetive form of any name you’re looking at.

Not a naming expert, but the only one I'm not sold on at first glance is the second one. Calamirë sounds like Calamari so it amuses me on a childish level, and frankly that would be my sign of which one to pick if I didn't need a deeply serious fic.

Hello, no bother :~) I'm not entirely sure about the question in full, but I'll do my best to answer well. Gonna add an undercut bc its sorta long.

Firstly, the pixel tones I use are from a photoshop pack called 'pixel brushes by diego sanches'. I believe they were free, but I'm unsure if theyre compatible with other programs. I use various brushes from that pack, and I also use the standard photoshop brush and mix them together, if that makes sense. My process is never quite the same each time, I just do what feels right. For colors, some are directly from the pixel brush, some are 'multiply' layers, some are simply me coloring over them with lower opacity brushes. I really hope this helps. Also, thank you very much!

you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.

you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:

how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!
