It's Bingo Time!!

I usually do some kind of bingo for my birthday/spring and I figured it'd be fun to do one again this year. Though the timeline may be different, we'll see lol.

Prompts are all spring/summer themed or smut. Any and all of them can be made as suggestive as you’d like, you don’t need to keep the smut fics to the smut prompts!

I don't mean to pile onto your bad day but I've been seeing a lot of creators on tiktok complain/compare the bucktommy and henren tags/fic count on ao3 because there's almost more bucktommy fics then there are henren fics. The number one claim is always that bucktommy writers are racist because we don't write for henren. But like, that's not correct at all? People can write fanfiction for whatever they want to. If they want to see more henren stuff then they can write it on their own.

We can coexist without fighting each other. I'm just tired of people screaming about how bucktommy is anti this or anti that, when we're just vibing by ourselves and don't want the drama but the drama finds us anyway because Sucky People are loud and get heard the most.

As a quick disclaimer, before we begin, I’m not a POC. I am not speaking for anyone in the Black community and am not attempting to speak over them. My following thoughts are as a queer woman-ish who is also a writer.

I think it must be noted that Hen and Karen have been overlooked since day one. The fact that Buck coming out made it the “gay firefighter show” when we’ve had a beautiful canonical lesbian couple since the very beginning? Is only proof. Is this proof of racism in the fandom? Maybe. Quite possibly. I would argue that it comes from a misogynistic point as well.

If you look in any fandom, regardless of the color of their skin, any wlw ship is horribly overlooked. I’ve done some tag searching on ao3. Straight and mlm ships battle for dominance while there are canonical and fanonical wlw ships that have a drastic difference in numbers. This isn’t a good thing. But it’s an experience that spans fandoms.

I find it sad that BuckTommy has almost more fics, with only two episodes under their belt, than Henren with 7 seasons. However, this isn’t a reason to hate on BuckTommy. The ship didn’t do anything wrong. Comparison is the thief of joy and it’s also rage bait. I think that some creators simply are using anything they can to hate on BuckTommy. Which that makes it sadder, that they aren’t concerned about Henren other than pushing their own agenda.

This isn’t to say all creators who are speaking about this are doing this, but I guarantee some are.

Now, let me speak as a writer.

As someone with 62 published fics on ao3, I write almost exclusively mlm ships. This isn’t because I hate women. And as a queer woman-ish, don’t even start about homophobia. But for some reason, I find it so much easier to write men than I do to write women. This is true for straight and wlw ships and also just in general. I love Henren, but I don’t have the faintest idea about how to write them.

It’s hard enough to write as it is and I’m already writing on ships that are easy for me. I try to write women and it just hasn’t come out right. I want to challenge myself, branch out, and maybe I’ll write for Henren to do that. But I say all this to point out that for some people like me, writing some ships and demographics of ships are just a little more difficult.

That leads me into something else.

I, as a white person, worry about accidentally writing non-white characters wrong. And this was reinforced not too long ago when we had that whole thing on ao3 with deliberate racism in 9-1-1 fics. If anyone has resources or advice for writing non-white characters, I would love to hear that! The last thing I want to do is cause any harm.

I feel like I’ve spoken a lot about me, but that’s because I can’t really speak for anyone else. I can only speak from my experience.

We already have a ship war between BuckTommy and Buddie. We don’t need to pit more people against each other. I think we can love BuckTommy while agreeing that Henren needs to be seen and appreciated and treated equally.

If your group is dismissive of Jews talking about antisemitism, that’s a red flag.

-he places his unoccupied hand under your chin and guides your face to his, but he doesn't close the gap. it was like he was waiting--making sure you really wanted to go through with this.

-but you do, so you press your lips to his and he lets go of your face to put his palm on the small of your back, pulling you impossibly closer toward him.

-later that night, when you're back in his arms watching your guys' favorite show and he's calling his mother to tell her the news, you can hear her shrieks of excitement coming through the phone.

-the only thing you don't hear is when she asks, "when's th' wedding?"

-"soon, hopefully," he looks at you leaning against him, head pressed against his shoulder and arm clinging to his like it was meant to be. "but there's no rush. a've waited this long, aye?"

Ooooh I just came up with an idea

You know all of this fics where Danny is an alternate universe version of like Bruce or Jason? What if it was with Damian

There could be some kind of ritual that sends Damian into Danny’s universe only they both get caught by the GIW and Everything Goes Wrong

By that I mean both of them get vivisected. And the Fentons should do at least some of it, and that Jack looks just like Bruce for extra ✨trauma✨

They both go on the Road Trip of Hell while escaping and Danny’s just working on building a temporary portal to the Ghost Zone/Damian’s home dimension.

I want Danny to lean out of a car with like a mcguivered bazooka or something to try and drive off the GIW for a while with some kind of crazy/stressed smile back at Damian.

I want little moments where they’re bonding/teaching each other how to fight (Because Damian knows formal fighting, and if we go with Danny knowing some self defense from his mom he’s not completely horrible at it, but Danny knows how to fight like a feral raccoon. It’s effective and Damian DOES like animals right?)

I want them to finally get to Damian’s dimension and when they finally finally gets to the bats and Bruce reaches out to help his son Damian flinches

And then I want it to get into the fluff/healing/trauma dumping part where the newly dubbed twins (who get along scarily well and everyone is pretty sure are trauma bonded) are healing while simultaneously causing the other bats to become more and more distressed (it may or may not be on purpose)

It would also be pretty cool if their habits and mannerisms rubbed off on one another, so they can be uncannily similar one moment then completely different the next

I also had the idea of them being literally the same soul- like, the soul that originally formed was completely identical when they were babies but diverged due to different experiences, so it’s literally a ‘same soul two bodies’ thing. I just think it would be neat, even if it’s not even really mentioned, but just like, Implied you know?

Building a Pride Flag.....2!

Hello again! After how well last years went, I wanted to come back and make another flag! This year i'll be using the Progressive Flag (thank you to everyone who voted in my poll to decide!)

If I get too many characters for this layout to work, I will be altering it so the side stripes are on the top and bottom instead!

So! Here is where you come in! I'm hoping to make this flag out of all of your excellent characters!

Simply reblog whichever colour post you think they fit best with and add on a picture for me! It's as simple as that! You're absolutely welcome to send me many characters, in fact I would love it if you did! Last year I collected 170 characters, and i'd love to get even more this year. If you submitted characters last year and would like me to use them again, let me know! I can easily access the screens from last year!

When sending screens, please make sure I can see your characters properly!

Too far away means I can't really show off your character!

(this is a glitch screen but it gets the point across) If i added Opehlia onto the flag like this, she'd either be very small or I might have to stretch her.

Close up shots can work, but that's mostly up to you! If you wanna just show off your characters face, that's perfectly fine!

Absolutely take screens using emotes and skills! They're a lot of fun to work with and can really show off your characters!

Damai using a skill vs Alvida from the character select screen, I would use either screen happily but the motion shot shows off Damai a little better!

I will do my absolute best to get your back pieces and weapons in!

If your computer can handle it, higher graphics is nice to work with. Again, this is all about showing off your characters and higher graphics help with that.

PLEASE DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU CAN'T TAKE PART IF YOUR COMPUTER CAN'T HANDLE HIGHER GRAPHICS! I WILL STILL INCLUDE YOUR CHARACTERS!

A background that contrasts your character will make my job a lot easier when I am cutting them out to put them on the flag.

I’ve been building up a pretty big base on a Minecraft server recently, and I’ve been meaning to show some of it off here. A few screenshots first to give an idea of what this is, but more under the the read more button, including a few night shots and bits of interior.

Welcome to the Lucent Highlands

The building on the left is functionally my base, and the rest of the area is mostly just me having fun building stuff.

Here’s a map of the base so far. You can see a little bit of me planning out a castle on the lower half of the map (and you can see some of that planning in some of these screenshots)

I’ve been working on a big custom biome project in the area too. The area generated mostly as a birch forest, with some mountain biomes and a bit of forest as well

The path going past my house goes by a small custom lake

From the other end of the path looking back. There’s a small vanity sugar cane farm here, and the building beside it has an automatic sugar cane farm (my one automated farm in the base to remind myself that I don’t like building automated farms)

Another portion of that higher area, there’s a couple of wheat fields here, and in that house is the map I showed above. These crop fields and others below (including things like the four tall flowers) are mostly for vanity, although it’s nice to have the option to farm them if I want to

i have realized something earlier. im aware im most likely stretching things a bit, but now i cannot unsee the motifs and i'll make it everyone else's problem (oops)

one known fact is that Lemy being a pierrot is most likely a reference to the stock character from Commedia dell'Arte, characterized as a hardworking yet foolish servant as well as sad and often the butt of the jokes.

so i was thinking about this, reading a small bit about the characters, and i realized something: Lemy is also the harlequin, a cheeky and nimble servant who can be either dim-witted or intelligent and mischievous. its clothing brings in mind lemy's pierrot costume — brightly colored, bells on the hat, diamond-shaped patterns.

also. considering all of this, Rin Chan could be seen as the colombina — one of the sanest characters in the novel, she sings, wears brightly colored clothing. plus, the colombina has a relationship with both the harlequin and the pierrot, the former being her love interest while the latter having unrequited feelings for her

which made me think even more and this came to my mind: what if the harlequin and the pierrot are mildly symbolic to Lemy's double nature as both a naive, troublemaking boy and a hardworking yet sad servant to Julia? and this also applies to his relationship to Rin Chan?

such motifs could be read in a certain way: had Lemy never become the Fifth Pierrot (and thus remained the harlequin), Rin could've stayed with him; but since he had, Rin couldn't reciprocate any feelings — platonic or romantic — for him anymore (though she did care for him, still)

OUCH.

smaller points i also thought about:

Lemy's casual outfit is assumed to be monochromatic (usually a dark brown vest over an off-white long-sleeved shirt in fanart) while his clown costume is colorful. following the motif and aforementioned thoughts, this is an inversion of the harlequin and the pierrot's traditional color schemes (respectively, colorful and monochromatic).

Commedia dell'Arte is originally italian, but became very popular in france, with the characters of harlequin, colombina and pierrot being further refined. lemy (a lucifenian)'s past incarnation was pollo (a beelzenian).
