Lily and Sirius weren’t friends. She couldn’t think of a single conversation they’d shared, just the two of them. And yet, they were more than the mere acquaintances they’d been in years passed. There was no spending time with James without also spending time with Sirius. There was no smiling at James without inadvertently smiling at Sirius. There was no laughing at James’s antics without laughing at Sirius’s.   He hadn’t been who she was looking for. He was the other side of the same coin, though.

i genuinely think that the shift from the old marauders to the new one where every straight ship even the canon and most important one (i.e jily) and that whole jegulus/all the other made up ships that make no sense come from a place of fetish. yall LOVE to turn characters into little stereotypes and that whole constant obsession w homosexuality is not helping any cause. most of view view homosexual/queer relationships as more angsty or interesting in a way that’s so strange to me. ships could follow the most standard plot line but still be considered angsty cus they’re queer and why is that? this fandom has taken such a strange turn.

you are making sexuality such a strong and central point in a character importance more than any other trait of their character. and those head canons just end up erasing the most important things about these characters

james potter was a strong and good man. he developed from his arrogant teenage self into a good man fighting for a good cause. but now you made him into a twink that is in love with a death eater/ a member of the family that abused his best friend all his life. james and sirius’s relationship was a central point of their characters. and james’s love for lily is a central point as well??????

sirius being turned into a overly feminine gay drama queen, even though what WAS important about him was his loyalty his strength and his honor??? but all of that was forgotten. HE CAN BE GAY WITHOUT ERASING HIS ORIGINAL PERSONALITY. stop painting him into a stereotype of a gay man.

regulus black is getting the recognition that is to be given to sirius. his character was not some brave rebel vigilante that fought for justice. he was a pureblood supremacist.he was a deatheater. yes he is important to the story but he was not what you made him.

lily evans is the most important character of the series. she’s the reason it exists. her and james’s love is the center point. but it was pushed away by you people to focus on your strange fetishized view of gay men. this MAJOR character whose love for her son and husband literally MADE the story got cast away as a secondary character.

important topics like sirius’sabusive family, lily and james’s courage and love….was remplaced by ridiculized view of characters

make characters gay cus we don’t know anything about them yes okay that’s why wolf star was a major part of the fandom. but the complete shift of every single characters identity is just bullshit.

jilypad raising baby harry but still having sirius be his godfather - cause harry is obvi still biologically jilys - and it might confuse a toddler to teach him he has three parents whilst he’s only just learning about mummies and daddies at kindy. but one night he has a bad dream or something and goes to find his daddy for help because he’s the best at nightmares (he’s had so much practice with sirius at hogwarts) and he sees james and sirius kissing and then also sees sirius and lily kissing sometimes because harry’s so sneaky with quiet little footsteps right. and so harry thinks it’s very normal to kiss your friends and that’s how you show that you’re best friends because lily and james always refer to sirius as their best friend.

and so harry goes to school and gives draco a kiss on the playground one afternoon because they’re best friends amd that’s what best friends do and little draco who never sees his parents kiss - who reads books about kisses being a very magical special thing - goes bright red and spends the rest of his kindergarten year thinking him and harry are boyfriends and brings him flowers and things and this litteraly goes on for years until they’re like 12. because they’re kids - a little pec is as crazy as it gets and harry still thinks it’s normal for besties to do that and draco is so in love with his silly boyfriend.

and then one day james sirius and lily sit harry down and decide it’s time to explain polyamory and talk about their real big feelings.

and then harry just freaks out.

they think he’s freaking out because he’s been taught by other kids at school that queerness is bad or whatever but then harry’s just like “so… is it not normal to kiss your best friend? is it not normal to hold their hands when you’re walking down the street and get them flowers. you only do that because you’re all in love?”

and now they’re all freaking out because they don’t know if harry has a boyfriend or not and all the boys are too chicken to ring up and ask because that’s so embarrassing for harry and lily is just sitting there with her head in her hands wondering how the hell her son ended up just as stupid as her dads.

one call to narcissa from her, and she figures it out, “oh, lily! hi, i was going to call later and ask you all over to dinner next week for draco and harry’s anniversary, he just came out to us.”

once again, lilys the one who has to do the communicating for these loveable idiots.

“Sirius!” Lily exclaims. “We were looking for you.”

“Oh?” He presses a quick kiss to her cheek before bending down to pick Harry up, who immediately cuddles into his arms with a tired sigh. Poor baby, must’ve been exhausted by all the excitement at the beach.

“Yeah, regarding tonight—“ Sirius gulped quietly at the way she said that “—Your room is a bit…messy, I’m sorry. We were reorganising and well, y’know how it goes…”

She shrugs apologetically but all Sirius can think about is how she called it ‘his room’. Not the guest room, not the spare, but his room. Sirius’. He once again pushes past the mushy feelings that rise in him at that little distinction.

“Oh, it’s—it’s fine, I can just take the couch, no problem.” Even if his feet tend to hang off the end, and the edges are a bit lumpy, it’s fine. He resolutely doesn’t think about his comfortable Alaskan King at home.

“Of course you can’t!” Lily scowls at him. “We’re not gonna put you in a couch in your own house, Sirius.”

There it was again, the reference to him belonging here. It was a bit presumptuous, slightly possessive but Sirius was a dog at heart, he was never going to turn down ownership.

“Er—the nursery, then?” he asks, confused.

“What, crammed up in Harry’s crib beside him?” she says with a scoff, “Don’t be silly.”

Sirius blinks. “Where am I sleeping then?”

“With us, of course.” He jumps at the voice booming from behind him, clutching Harry tighter to his chest, whirling around to find James munching on a carrot.

“Where did you come from?” Sirius mutters under his breath before straightening up and saying, louder, “And what do you mean with you?”

“Well, like Lily said,” and here he sends a meaningful, entirely undecipherable, look towards his wife who…blushes? “Your room’s temporarily indisposed, the couch isn’t even an option—don’t give me that look, you barely fit on the thing—and the floor is gonna mess up your back worse than it is.”

“Oi!”

“So, our room it is.”

Right. Of course. Because that’s the obvious conclusions. How could he say no?

(Again, he can’t so he doesn’t)

It’s twenty minutes later, after Harry’s been put to bed, thoroughly kissed by his parents and godfather, after James is done with his nighttime turmeric milk and Lily’s put her hair up into braids and Sirius has taken out all his rings and chains and bracelets—that’s when he’s stumped by yet another problem.

How, exactly, are they going to sleep in one bed?

“We’re just going to expand it a little, Pads, don’t worry,” James says, supremely unconcerned.

He goggles at that, staring at the casual wand work. A part of him wonders why this is the extent of magic they’re using to solve this problem—James can conjure a bed Silenced, with his eyes closed—but promptly decides to not dwell on that for everyone’s sake.

Jily. (Im not Ready for October)

James grew his hair out for Lily, and she’d always put little French braids in it before bed so he’d have curly hair in the morning (he went around telling people that he took a potion his father made that magically made his hair curly (remus didn’t let that rumor last long before dunking James’s head into water and let everyone watch as his hair dried curl-less))

When James and Lily got married Sirius asked to be a flower girl at their wedding as a joke and to his surprise Lily was the one who said yes (not James because he wanted Sirius to be best man) so then remus got elected best man and they let Sirius walk down the Isle with Fabian’s daughter Alleen.

When the preacher said “speak now or forever hold your peace” remus activity stared down everyone of their friends knowing damn well they’d try that shit as a joke, just for Lily to say “Well… Remus is pretty fit” and obviously that causes a uproar (jokingly) and Remus laughing alongside the rest of them just for James to pop up with “I know right, Almost went for him in 4th year” which left everyone bursting in laughter but him. Which led him to say “kiss your god damn wife potter”

And James bantering back

“Oh please moony, I will. All. Night. Long.”

When Wiloa was little they would sneak away with their uncles to OOTP meetings and Lily would always find them, so they’d have to pull them off and lecture them about how they can’t hide away here because they could get hurt. But after a while, gave in and let them stay. Soon enough James found them and he’d always sneak them off and back home because he understood what it was like to be curious at a young age and how dangerous curiosity could be. But basically Wiloa was Jily’s practice child.

Lily would always show James muggle things. When they moved in together he stood flicking the ceiling fan on and off for about 30 minutes (while Lily recorded him like he was a cat) James had 100% become accustomed to muggle life, and at some points entirely forgot he was a wizard. (He got really excited when he remembered he was magic and could turn into a fucking deer)

James tried helping Lily become an Animagus but she couldn’t keep the leaf in her mouth past two days so she eventually just spit it out and told James “look I give up, as long as you don’t turn into a fucking elk while we’re fucking I’m good” and james’s only response was “I’m a DEAR darling get it right” in a posh mid-Atlantic accent.

When James proposed Lily made a joke about him preposing before she KNEW he was proposing so it went something like this

“Lillian, I really need to ask you something” James asked with a cherishing smile

“James, darling you can ask me anything as long as you don’t propose” She joked

She then turned around to see the look of utter shock and hurt in his eyes. And realized. He was going to propose.

“No, no, no. I didn’t say anything, what were you asking? I’ll turn back around!”

She then turned back around with a static giggle bouncing through her bones. He knew she loved him.

“Lillian,” he said while grabbing her arm and turning her around gently “My darling, you’ve made me the happiest man on earth. And I know it’s the most cliche thing to say, but my words have never heard more truth than this. I can’t bare the thought of life without the light of your eyes shining in mine. I can’t stand mornings after without your sweet touch curled next to mine. And I’ll never see another gorgeous evening like this again if your gracing beauty isn’t touching it. So Please, Lillian Jane Evans, Will you marry me? And be my wife, and I’ll be yours”

The first thing she could do was fall into his arms, and his warm gentle kiss. Tears flowed down her eyes and he placed the ring on her finger.

“Shit!” James Said unexpectedly “I forgot to get down on one fucking knee”

Lily giggle at her new found fiancé, he could be a stupid man, but he was HER stupid man.

“So, you’ll be my wife” Lily said excitedly

“What?!” James burst out laughing

“Well you said ‘be my wife, and I’ll be yours’ so I assume you’ll be my wife, correct?”

And with those words, James knew he chose the right woman.

I told Cat and Em that in the polish translation James's nickname is Rogacz. This is quite a literal translation of Prongs - literally this word would mean "someone who has horns/antlers". But the actual meaning of Rogacz - that im almost sure most children reading the books didnt know about -is "cuckold"

My absolute headcanon for it is my beloved baby, My Best Friend's Girl. The Sirius & James relationship isn't as expanded upon as the Lilypad but you can see how (unexpectedly, from James's POV) tender Sirius is towards Lily, whereas we see him tease James to his face - but also be mindful of his feelings in discreet ways.

A Jilypad fic that also did this dynamic really well is hopelessness by @forestdeath1.

I can't think of any more fics with this exact dynamic right now, unfortunately! If anyone else has recs, they're welcome!

Jily Microfic: Troubled

Despite Professor Flitwick having quickly put out the small fire she caused, the smell of singed hair clings to Lily's robes; an ongoing reminder of her mortifying failure to perform the simplest charm imaginable. Truly - who gets Wingardium Leviosa so wrong that they blow up their feather? Maybe some other witch or wizard, but not Lily Evans.

Except that's exactly what Lily Evans did, and it's entirely James Potter's fault.

He just had to go and make his feather tickle Sirius Black's feather mid-air, which managed to distract Lily doubly, because 1. they're so loud how does anyone not get distracted and 2. how did he get so good at the charm that fast? What does he know that she doesn't?

Well, first off, he knows not to look away from his wand hand while performing a spell.

It's been at least twenty minutes since the incident, and Potter and Black are still laughing. The only reason she hasn't blown both their desks to bits right where they sit is how disappointed Professor Flitwick would be in her - she's already disappointed him enough today.

When class is finally dismissed, Lily stomps her way to the exit, hoping to find enough time to change her robes before Transfiguration.

"Oh, Evans," Potter says, coming up beside her as they pass through the door. "Don't be too troubled over it - it's just a simple spell, you'll get it eventually…"

"Yeah, you know," Black appears at the other side of her wearing a look of faux sympathy. "It's not a competition..."

Oh, but it is a competition - they've just made it one.

And whether it takes her all seven years to do it, she will prove herself to be better than Potter and Black - better than all her classmates, even.

They'll see.

Alright, Sirius has become a rock musician a hundred times over. But what if … Muggle modern Berlin AU, Sirius is mad about techno music and dreams of becoming a DJ, but his old-fashioned parents are against electronic music and such a future for him, wanting him to study abroad after school instead. The boys are currently attending a private Catholic school. Jamie plays football, Remus has come from another country on a scholarship, and Peter is unsure about his future because his mum insists he follow in his dad's footsteps. Lily is an incredibly talented girl from an immigrant family. At some point, Sirius runs away from home, ends up in Berghain for the first time, and... everything clicks. Then comes a spree of nightlife from Sisyphos and KitKat to very odd house parties, which he starts dragging his friends to, and begins to try his hand at DJing. Jily/Wolfstar/occasional Prongsfoot/Jilypad idk I just love them all 🤣

Btw, for James's bachelor party, they all head to Ibiza, rent a villa in Sant Josep, visit the hippie market in Sant Jordi, buy weird clothes from locals, and then spend 20 hours partying in Space, which in this AU is still open and pleasing everyone with real electronic music. 🥺

So much so that by the time James became James and Lily, Sirius was so much of a constant that more often than not they were Sirius, James, and Lily.  But that’s beside the point.

↻ Ties That Bind... but make it Prongsfoot 👀 What would change? What would remain the same?

ANNA! WHAT A CONCEPT. Which I conveniently already built into Ties That Bind. This fic sets up that Soul Bonds are a deep magic with many theories and clues to find one's 'soul mate': Soul Zaps (sparks like a static shock on touch), smells in love potions, the matching of a Corporeal Patronus, Soul Marks etc.

Now in the published version of Ties That Bind I hinted at background wolfstar with Sirius' soul mark purely for the sake of the jily plot, I didn't want his to match Lily's as it would be a bit messy.

HOWEVER! In Lily's conversation with Sirius, who rightly so is educated in ancient and deep magic, she learns that: A.) Marks can fade, grow darker, or transform. B.) Like all relationships souls are complex in nature, and their ties can change and develop. You can CHOSE to build or sever them. C.) Not every soul tie is a romantic one. You also have Platonic and Envy matches at play. As this version of the universe was written I like to think as Sirius is well-versed in manipulating his own marks and ties. James definitely is somewhere in the mix of a romantic or Platonic tie for Sirius. They are soulmates, bound together. Just not in the same way Lily and James are tied to one another... at one point I did consider a while Jilypad dynamic but as it was a jilychallenge fic I skirted around it instead 😅 So to answer your question as to what would change and what would stay the same: I think a lot of the lore I set up would remain. Except that Sirius would attempt to constantly manipulate the mark on his skin tying him to James because he knows that James wants Lily, and he wrongly assumes that you can't have more than one romantic tie and that for James that person isn't Sirius. There would have to be a scene where he sees James has multiple marks, one that is undoubtedly linked to Sirius in some way, but also to Lily. I'm thinking something in the dorm, quidditch locker room, or maybe even the prefects' bathroom. Maximum angsty pinning on Sirius' part. And it would be not only Lily coming to terms with the depths of her own feelings but also Sirius. James is the glue that pulls the little triad together. Gosh why have you now put this idea in my head... I HAVE TOO MANY WIPS ALREADY ANNA! 💡
