Welcome back to me harshly criticizing graphic design choices that people make about autism where I find pictures of shirts and whatnot and I tear into them like a lion tearing into its prey. Let's get into it.

In the words of @rebmasel on TikTok: "Ka-chow."

First up the only appropriate way to do this review is in the style of Dr. Seuss.

I do not like the puzzle piece, for it disturbs my fucking peace.

The color purple is real nice, but the message here I would think twice.

No tacky colors, so that's good. I don't hate it, though I feel I should.

Final Score: 4 out of 10. I'd rather not see this again.

I know the first line's kinda cheating, but I couldn't really think of any other fitting rhyme.

Next up is this:

This is already miles better than most of what I've seen.

The colors aren't tacky, they're actually kinda nice.

You have two wolves inside of you, both of them are gay and autistic. /ref

Autism Acceptance, that's a win.

Infinity symbol instead of puzzle piece, fuck yes.

Only criticism is that it's kind of a cheesy message, but not the worst.

Final Score: 9.5 out of 10. I'd wear it.

And then the quality drops here.

Puzzle piece means you lost points.

"Autism Mom." You can say it's difficult to raise an autistic child, but you're not a goddamn superhero.

How dare you use Rosie the Riveter for this. The disrespect. /hj

The military font is tacky.

I don't like seeing blue associated with autism, but at least it's not an abominable shade of blue.

Final Score: 1 out of 10. Get it out of my sight.

Speaking of lions that I mentioned earlier:

I'm already liking the absence of puzzle pieces.

Autism Acceptance is a yes.

When a lioness has children, she stops making love to the lion. The lion gets jealous, sometimes so jealous he EATS the children. You'd think this would upset the lioness; far from it. They make love again like the children never existed. I find that idea terrifying. /q

Not a fan of the colors, they're too dark for my taste.

The message feels cheesy.

Final Score: 7.5 out of 10. I dunno if I'd wear it, but it's not the worst design I've seen. The effort and care are present.

This feels like a roller coaster because it went downhill again.

Autism Awareness. Once again, I am very aware of my existence but sometimes I wish I wasn't; there are days where I'd like to be both perceived and NOT perceived.

The blue isn't tacky, thank God.

I hate the quote because it gives the message that autism is nothing but a burden.

Also there's a bit too much going on with it, all of the decals and shit.

I don't see any puzzle pieces, so thank God.

Final Score: 2 out of 10. I do not recommend.

Why is everyone trying to fight autism? It's just minding its business.

I'm pretty sure that that's going to be a signal to mean kids to bully your kid. Like, even if there's more understanding of autism, there are still asshole crotch goblins.

I haven't "done" autism, but I am curious as to whether or not autism is good in bed. /j

Let's end part 2 on a high note.

Simple design, but colorful and pretty easy on the eyes.

And the colors aren't patronizing.

Acknowledgement of the intersectionality of autism and sexuality.

No cheesy message; just a funky design about autism and gayness. Not all autism shirts have to be serious or UwU or motivating, so it's always a nice change of pace.

Final Score: 11 out of 10. As an asexual biromantic autistic, I'd wear this.

AN: writing for this many characters was both tiring and really fun 😭 also sorry for the delay, I’ve been busy :(

Slenderman:

The Slenderman had been observing you for years before you were recruited so he was aware of your stimming, thus was desensitised to it.

When he first saw you stim (before you joined him) he found it curious, chances were he knew Toby before he knew you so at first he thought it was a similar scenario, however as he continued to watch you he realised that wasn’t the case.

He was totally thinking of a way to use your stimming to his advantage, he’s an asshole so he totally wanted to manipulate you in some way

When you officially joined him he was somewhat curious as to how the others would react, perhaps some people wouldn’t understand and it would cause a dispute again he’s an asshole so he takes any chance to manipulate people, if someone takes issue with you he’ll totally see it as a good thing

Though personally he has to issue with it, as long as it doesn’t affect your work he doesn’t care

Masky|Tim Wright:

Oh god not another Toby

First time you stim in front of him he cringes and gets a sinking feeling in his stomach; he had seen similar actions with Toby and although he has no actual issue with it he has seen how disruptive Toby’s tics are and how they hurt him and others around him.

When he notices that your stims aren’t tics (because he can actually tell the difference) he’ll straight up ask you about it, and he’ll listen as you explain it.

Then when you finish he’ll be like ‘oh.. is there anything I can do to help when you do that?’ Obviously he doesn’t mean that in a bad way, he just wants to help you out but is very awkward when asking about it.

Gonna be honest Tim is a pretty alright guy (Marble Hornets Tim) so he’s not going to judge you for it.

Hoodie|Brian Thomas:

There’s honestly not much to say about him.

He’s just really indifferent, he’s around Toby all the time so he doesn’t care.

Like it’s almost off putting how unbothered he is? You’ll think that he somehow hasn’t noticed until he turns around one day and flat out asks you why you do that.

Then you tell him and he just says ‘ok’ before leaving and you’re just there like

??

He never comments on it or reacts to your stimming.

Ticci Toby:

‘Omg you’re like me.’

You then have to explain that you are, in fact, NOT exactly like him, and he’s a little disappointed for some reason but he’s still happy that there’s someone he knows that somewhat understands.

He’ll also ask if punching your hands together hurts, because of his CIPA he’s naturally curious about pain and due to your specific scenario he’ll totally ask questions.

Unfortunately you learn the hard way that your stims and his tics aren’t that compatible.

You stim one day and that sets off his tics and he has to leave :(

He’s upset because he probably won’t be able to be around you now.

Clockwork:

She’s around Toby a lot so as soon as you stim around her she’ll straight up ask you if you have Tourette’s.

She’s lowkey excited because she think she figured it out

Then when you tell her you stim because of your autism and they’re not tics she deflates a bit, disappointed that she was wrong.

And then whenever you stim around her from then on and it’s a stim she hasn’t seen she’ll be like ‘is that an autism thing?? Ah, ok.’

So she’s not bothered at all, she just likes to be aware of things.

Jeff the Killer:

‘Dude tf are you doing?’

Jeff is kind of an asshole, an uneducated asshole.

He’ll be one of those dickheads who thinks you’re possessed and/or thinks you’re weird. Please explain to him and try to make him understand.

Eventually he’ll get it but he won’t be one of those who just doesn’t care, he’ll likely just look at your weird whenever you stim, but he will learn to not comment.

Can you tell I have a love hate relationship with Jeff

Jane the Killer:

She’s a bit surprised when she first sees you stim and is taken back a bit, not because she’s scared or anything but just because she didn’t expect it.

If there are people around then she won’t ask you about it, instead she’ll either wait until everyone has left or until she passes you in a corridor or something and say that she noticed you flapping your hands/punching them together and wanted to know if you’re ok.

When you explain it to her she’s like ‘oh!’ And will say she’s glad you’re ok, but she also wants you to make sure you don’t hurt yourself when you stim.

Homicidal Liu:

Unlike his brother, Liu is very understanding.

I think he’ll figure it out by himself, he will notice how your stims aren’t tics so by process of elimination he’ll come to the conclusion that you’re autistic.

He will ask you to make sure at some point, though, just to make sure.

Because Liu is an absolute sweetheart sorry I’m a simp he might try and stop you from hurting yourself when you go to punch your fists together.

‘Do you want to punch me instead?’ :)

Bless him, he’s got the right idea.

Did I mention that I’m a simp

He might flinch at times though, he’ll make sure you don’t take it to heart.

Sully:

Ok so here’s something I didn’t really mention, Liu absolutely had PTSD.

And when he first say you stim he panicked a little bit, which alerted Sully since he’s Lius protector.

Liu didn’t let him front and they had a bit of a conversation about it later, and they both came to the conclusion that you’re autistic and what you’re doing is stimming, so you’re not actually endangering Liu in any way.

You don’t really see Sully that often, but he has the same perspective of your stims as Liu, except he’s a bit more alert.

Eyeless Jack:

Another one who knows pretty much instantly.

He’s a former med student so he knows a fair bit about things like this, and he’ll actually explain the biological explanation behind it.

Sometimes he may over explain but that only because he’s passionate about his field of expertise and he likes to talk about what he knows, he means no ill-will and although he’ll understand if you tell him you know he’ll also appreciate if you just listen to him.

He’s the closest thing to a doctor they have so if you have any questions about your autism he’ll be very happy to talk to you.

He’ll also ask you questions about your own subjective experience for future reference.

BEN Drowned:

‘AH’

This kid straight up jumps out of his skin, bless.

He’s a bit spooked because although he’s around Toby a lot and is used to sudden movements when it comes to him, he doesn’t expect it with you.

You have to explain that you have autism and he be like ‘ah.’

He’ll try his best but he will still jump when you stim, he doesn’t want you to feel uncomfortable so he’ll go up to you and apologise.

Sally:

When you first stim around her she’ll just stare at you like O.O

Then when you finish she’ll point at your hands and ask ‘why did you do that?’ And then when you explain she’ll ask you if you need a plaster (band aid or whatever you wanna call them, idk I’m British).

Bless her heart, she’s such a good kid

From then on when you stim around her she’ll go and bring you an ice pack.

Bloody Painter|Helen Otis:

When you first stim around Helen he’ll just kind of watch you but he won’t comment - it’s not his business and it’s not bothering him so he won’t press for details.

He’ll know that there’s a reason but he won’t ask since he doesn’t think it concerns him.

However, if you stim around him when he’s drawing or painting he’ll have a different reaction.

The first time he won’t react, just pause and look at you for a second before continuing with his work. But the SECOND time he’ll ask you to leave; his art is very important and he likes it to be quiet when he’s working.

Helen is very blunt and he can come across as cold and rude, he won’t go out of his way to apologise but it isn’t his intention to offend you or make you uncomfortable.

The Puppeteer:

Ok so I don’t know much about him but I’ll try my best.

I think Johnathan falls into the ‘figures it out by themselves’ category.

You don’t get the opportunity to meet him for a while so you’ll probably have met everyone else before you meet him, and you’ll also not see him much at all to be honest.

When he first sees you stim he’ll probably just study you for a bit, and then just ask you if you have autism.

He’s not bothered and will keep it in mind for the next time he see’s you.

Nurse Ann:

Ann is a doctor, so like Jack she also will be fairly knowledgeable.

When she first see’s you stim she will ask you if you’re autistic or have a movement disorder, and when you answer she’ll nod and go write it down as she keeps notes on everyone’s medical history.

Unlike Jack she won’t over explain your own autism to you, though to be honest she probably won’t have the chance to since she’s always busy.

Judge Angels:

Because of their upbringing, Dina doesn’t really know much about autism. Or anything really.

Bless

When you first stim around them they’ll probably just sit there awkwardly for a bit since they don’t want to upset you or come off as too forward, and then ask why you did that with you’re hands.

When you tell them you’re autistic they will honestly be really interested and will ask you more about it since they enjoy learning things to compensate for their closed off childhood.

At times they’ll ask a tad too many questions and if you’re comfortable enough to tell them to stop then they’ll probably panic as they think they made you uncomfortable.

Hello! I've seen a bit of wiccan (?) things for a while, if I were to start I wouldn't even know how to start though. (my autistic ass does not leave the house and my mom would probably think it's weird to make strange concoctions of things) I also don't really know how deities work and how do you find out which one your communicating with? Tbh I've always felt like someone is around but whatever god it is seriously fucking hates me /hj Been better since I started medication but like the luck I have is 50/50 good bad and that is probably not normal. Hi! Thanks for the ask!

I just want to start by defining a few terms for you :)

Wicca/Wiccan: A pagan religion that focuses on nature, magic and witchcraft. It was founded in the mid 20th century and Wiccans primarily worship 2 Gods which are personifications of nature.

Witch: Just a person who practices witchcraft. It's a non-gendered term and a non-religious term/practice. Not all witches are Wiccan but all Wiccans are witches. Witches can be absolutely anyone

Personally, I'm not Wiccan so I can't really tell you much about that but if there is one thing I know, it's witchcraft! There are many different places to start but I'm going to condense it down as much as humanly possible. It'll probably feel like a bit of information overload so just try to take it slow and relax. Enjoy the learning.

My favourite book for beginner witchcraft is 'Witchery: Embrace the Witch Within' by Juliet Diaz. She is a fantastic author and wonderful human. Everything about the basics of witchcraft you could need is in that book (imo). You should be able to find a pdf online if you can't get a physical copy.

As for youtube channels with solid content:

Harmony Nice: She covers everything Wicca. She has a playlist with all her Wiccan/witchy content witch is linked here

The Witch of Wonderlust: Olivia has been a favourite witchy youtuber of mine for a while. I wouldn't recommend jumping into her videos without any prior knowledge but once you have a grasp on the bare bones it should be okay. Here is a playlist she made with everything you could possibly need when beginning witchcraft. SOrt through the videos and see what peeks your interest.

The Hearth Witch: Another wonderful account if I remember correctly. Her videos used to be on the longer end (30-60mins) so if you have a short attention span then maybe not but she has a wealth of information.

I also recommend joining a few discord servers, following a few pages on tumblr just to get acquainted with the community and terminology.

Okay, on to the deity work situation. Deity work is generally considered more intermediate in the witchcraft community. key words being 'Deity WORK'. Worship is completely fair game. Setting up an altar, praying, leaving offerings, doing activities in devotion to the deity is absolutely something you can do relatively quickly.

As for IDing a deity, most people do it through 'divination' which is things like tarot, a pendulum, dice, bone throwing, and other ways. Most people also ask for signs that a specific deity is 'reaching out' to them or wants them to pay attention. You can also politely ask someone who is volunteering their time on tumblr or a discord server to find out for you via divination. If they don't say their doing free readings, obviously, don't ask.

Finally. luck is luck. It makes no sense for a literal God to hate a human. We all have periods of shitty luck and awesome luck! I wouldn't blame that on anything. Sometimes bad things just happen unfortunately. But sometimes amazing things also happen, even if it's just as small is finding 5 cents on the footpath.

Veganism Rant

Disclaimer: it’s just a rant of a tired autistic punk who was active in XRY for a while. I’m not hating on people who genuinely just don’t like animal products or just don’t feel good morally whe eating meat etc. It’s just about political veganism (I’m not sure what else to call it) and veganism in activist spaces.

I genuinely HATE how most of eco activists see veganism.

I understand if you think that it’s morally bad to eat meat. I understand if you don’t want to eat it. But saying or behaving like it’s a morally superior practice - that’s absolute bullshit.

Vegans who try to guilt trip people into becoming vegan/vegetarian are not morally superior - but somehow they think they are. They’re not morally superior for advocating for eliminating meat from everyone’s diet. They’re just assholes and I’m tired of pretending that they aren’t.

They’re not making the world better by saying that all consumption of animal products is bad.

Often the vegan alternatives are just as bad for the environment as animal products. And I just can’t understand why are they focusing on the meat and animal products? Those aren’t the problem. The real problem is the industrialisation of the process of production. Animal products aren’t bad - the overwhelming number of animals and the inhumane conditions they live in are the problem.

There are so many people who can’t or just don’t want to resign from eating animal products. I can’t stop eating animal products encaustic I’m an autistic person with a long history of eating disorders and very bad sensory issues. If I stopped eating animal products I’d have to survive on fruit juice, pickles and rice waffles. And I don’t want to resign from animal products because I don’t want to resign from my culture. I don’t want to resin from the classic dishes from my country and traditional regional products.

And the most infuriating thing is that when I try nicely discuss this stuff they either ignore me or don’t listen to my arguments at all. I really want to be active in XRY but it’s impossible when everyone is making me feel like the most despicable human being on Mother Earth because I can’t/won’t switch to veganism/vegetarianism

on the one hand kohane loves animals which points to werewolf

on the other hand she has a really strong bond with count pearl, and snakes and vampires are similar in a way

but also ofc vampires need blood to live and kohane would hate having to drink a living creature’s blood

yk how donated blood can only be kept for a certain amount of time before it has to get thrown out? kohane would steal the blood that won’t otherwise be used. it’s awful it’s like drinking stale milk but it’s enough to keep her going

her friends offer for her to have their blood consensually but she says no. this one time minori is so determined to help so she trips on purpose and is like oh no look at all this blood that i don’t need going to waste. if only there were a vampire here to put it to good use

akito’s is tricky because the thing is i can see both sides

on the one hand there’s something so funny about akito being afraid of dogs and then turning out to be a werewolf. but on the other hand him being afraid of dogs makes so much sense if he’s a vampire

he gets very little sleep (vampire coded) but he naps whenever he can (werewolf coded)

always cold (vampire) but consider him preferring being in his wolf form during the winter because his fur makes him warmer

i was torn on toya’s as well but ultimately i’m going for vampire. for funsies

toya is constantly dropping facts about random historical events but everyone just thinks he’s autistic and history is his spinterest

he would casually drop some fact about something super specific that happened 100 years ago and everyone would be like oh cool and move on

every time toya shows a sign of being a vampire people attribute it to autism. “he can’t have garlic sorry, i think it’s a texture thing” “sorry he never smiles with his teeth he’s bad at facial expressions” “he’s bad with social cues so he won’t enter your house unless you specifically say that he can”

8. Harmony - he sucks so bad at what he's supposed to be best at! and i think that's so interesting and criminally underexplored! and every time he gets the other smurfs to like his music it ends badly :(.

9. Painter - dramatic ass bitch (affectionate). why was he the only french person in belgium.

10. Doctor - i assume that one's doctor at least. it is now. anyways he's funny as hell, like harmony he's also...bad at his passion. he doesn't have a reason to be a quack, he's just. Like That.

11. Reporter - I like his voice.

12. Poet - there is NO need to speak in couplets all the time, he's so extra.

13. Tailor - "*terrible Kip King impression* EVERYBODY STOP COMPLAINING OR I'LL SCREAM." He's really nice, he made Smurfette that dress in one episode even though he was busy, and he made Tracker a fur coat out of the scraps he gave him and Vanity a scarf with his face hand-embroidered on it just because? AND more importantly, he's very blunt. i like that :)

14. Hefty - no no you didn't see my love for strong muscular guys that are kind and caring and totally whipped for that one girl. ok he's not maws level but like. if you can put "she's so high" by tal bachman in a ship playlist then you've got a valid m/f ship

15. Grouchy - let him say hate again oh god please i will tear my ears out if i have to hear "me, I don't like x" again. fuckin WEAK. also the grammar i wanna curl up on the floor and cry.

16. Farmer - remember when all the smurfs only wore white pants so to distinguish farmer from the others he would just be randomly carrying a hoe for no reason. also his accent is SO silly in the new cartoon i love it.

17. Vanity - just...watch this.

18. Brainy - i'm sorry for putting him so low brainy fans can you ever forgive me /hj. with all fairness i do think he's an interesting character! he's just...interesting in a way that doesn't really appeal to me specifically.

19. Handy - i feel like he would build a doomsday device if he got bored one afternoon and honestly? i respect that.

20. Papa Smurf - sometimes he's a good father figure. sometimes he's a terrible "father figure". it depends on the medium. and the direction of the wind.

God finally I finished the 1992 Spider-Man 2099 comics—

SPOILER WARNING BTW IM JUST SPITTING OUT MY THOUGHTS RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW GET OUT IF YOU DONT WANT THE COMICS SPOILED FOR YOU PLEASE AND THANK YOU

Overall, writing wise I liked it. Most of it, at least. I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style at some points but that’s just personal preference, I guess. I know how much work and how little time goes into comics so that is just a tiny thing to me. Biggest complaint about the art style was how the women were drawn. Uh…. Yeah, it was the 90s. I’m not shocked we’ve barely grown and it’s 2023. Side note but this comic really did predict some modern stuff didn’t it /hj

The downsides…. Oh boy. I don’t like how most of the female characters were relegated to the damsel in destress or…. Miguel lover. Ig??

Conchata was sort of out of the ordinary with that and that’s why I liked her (Xina too, both of their personalities stuck out to me and I liked them. Xina sort of reminded me of Red from TLOTFK National Anthem for some reason) but I mean… she was the main characters mom. Kinda makes sense that she’d go against the grain

That and the representation of Mexican culture.. my god did I hate it. As a Latino, specifically as someone who is Mexican, I was not a fan of how Day of the Dead was portrayed specifically. It isn’t just Mexican Halloween. But in the comic… yeah that’s what I got from it and I think if a kid who didn’t really know what that is might end up being ill informed but just— they should have done more research. That’s all I’ll say.

I can give them a little leeway and say “oh it was the 90s”. So I will. It was the 90s. What am I gonna expect from a comic book in the 90s. This was actually pretty progressive for the time so why am I complaining 💀

Oddly enough though, I did enjoy the representation of suicidal tendencies and ideation from Miguel. You don’t see that a lot. At least not in the way this was depicted and from what I’ve seen. It was relatable. Every time he got into a near death situation he still fought through it and didn’t give up. Which like, yeah, I wouldn’t want to be killed by some guy with wings or drown because fish man or something, but as he spirals I feel like it was depicted well. He knew that he couldn’t take his own life because not only did he have a job to do (save the city, work at alchemax) but also he found that other people did end up caring about him. At some points that didn’t matter to him, sometimes it did. It’s a fucking roller coaster, realistically.

With the scene right after the reveal of Tyler stone, Miguel’s really awful boss who groomed him into his position at alchemax, being Miguel’s father. We see a shot of either Miguel attempting or thinking of killing himself. Personally I interpreted it as an attempt. Felt like it was a spur in the moment kind of thing, which is realistic, as far as I know. Reading his dialogue and thoughts just felt real. It felt like someone was maybe directly talking to me about their thoughts or that i was reading someone’s journal. There was no filter. Miguel has no filter. I fucking love him for that.

Everyone in the story was just kind of an asshole in some way. There was no morally good or morally evil. I’d say everyone in some way was morally grey.

Miguel is kind of a dick, but he cares about the people around him even though he may not properly show it (whether or not that’s because of trauma or, in my personal interpretation, him being possibly autistic is up to you. I think it’s a little bit of both). He feels guilt when he hurts people, when he kills others, on accident mind you, but he does. He shuts down. He trails off. He’s not evil or malicious, he’s just very very emotionally damaged. Which by all means isn’t an excuse for how he treats some of the people in his life throughout the comics but they serve as a good explanation.

Dana generally seemed to… kind of care? She did sleep around and was bouncing between literally all 3 of the OHaras (Miguel her fiance, Gabriel her brother-in-law, and Tyler her father-in-law), but she also treated them more like trophies than anything. We didn’t see a lot of her backstory or motivations because she really just… was only there when the plot needed to mention “oh by the way Miguel’s fiance cheats on him”. I wish we got to see more of her, tbh. I wanted to see her line of thinking (maybe I will once I eventually reread but rn my brain feels like it’s about to explode and I need to eat something before it does. T minus 8 minutes /ref)

Gabriel. Just Gabriel. I do not have the right words to unpack him. Holy fuck.

Xina was a bit of a hothead, ig? She bounced off of Miguel’s character pretty well because she directly went against him. Not like she was a villain at any point but she did end up being at odds with him at some point, so.. she does, however, still care about other people and just like Miguel she feels so much regret about the past. I’d argue everyone in this story just kind of sits in a puddle of “oh god this unending agony”. I’m happy she seemed to be blazing her own trail at the end of the comic. Cool of her. Very cool.

Tyler…. Yeah I didn’t like him and technically speaking he is a villain, but he wasn’t entirely evil apparently, he liked Dana. Even though i don’t believe him. He’s a greedy shit who basically only values his role in a billion dollar company so uh.. fuck him. He’s not cool. I wouldn’t say he’s morally grey but if we take his word at face value he can feel love. I guess. But I don’t think he does. Nuh uh, Tyler Stone, Nuh uh.

Lyla was great. I love her. She’s funny, witty, her timing is great, she’s fucking insane sometimes but yknow what that’s fine. I saw a post describing her as “the weird fairy that haunts Miguel” (paraphrasing) and I cannot help but see her that way from now on. Especially movie Lyla. Because she’s just FUNNY in both and she’s so much fun I wish there was more of her in the comic and I WISH WE HAD MORE OF THAYT RANDOM PUNK VARIANT OF HER WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT—

Overall, I found the comics charming regardless of my few critiques. It was written well to reflect that not everyone is picture perfect, everyone is just a bit cynical, and relationships are rocky sometimes. Especially if trauma and literal actual grooming is involved. Also I smiled and cheered a little bit when Tyler stone died and when alchemax fucking exploded.

• more seriously, she IS aromantic but it took some time for her to figure out. she is allo but she doesn't label her sexuality, and she was always confused and frustrated to experience sexual attraction but never romantic attraction; she had a hard time accepting this part of herself.

• post heathers: maybe she discovers about non binary identities and asks her girlfriends to test out they/them pronouns on her? idk? aro-agender duke?

• she also struggles with empathy as she is naturally apathic

• and she's putting this image of a cold mean girl because she believes she can only be that given she's aro and ND

• since she's very tall (movie) she stims while standing like being on the tip of her toes or rocking back and forth and the others can be quite annoyed because she moves a lot but they never snap at her

• post musical: veronica finds her stimming endearing and they know it's safe to stim around her, especially since veronica stims herself

• post musical: mac hums as a stim too and you can often find macnamawyer snuggling on the floor while humming in harmonies together

• she used to mask a LOT and it played a big part in her depression. she knows they had to stop themselves from stimming when she was a heather, she had been the weird kid in middle school but now that chandler took her under her wing, she has to pretend to be NT in order to stay in the lifeboat (😭)

• mac themselves is not a cinnamon roll just yet and she still has to make up for what they've done to others

• mcnamara has nicknames like mcNcheese or macaroni (veronica came up with those)

• they're also a vegetarian and she loves yellow food

• like she ever only eats yellow food actually (autistic thing). that girl is deficient! part of why she looks that fragile and thin

• also i see mcnamara as mixed race with golden/light brown skin and they have this type of curly curly hair but she straightens it all the time so it's only just wavy (once again, to blend in with the heathers)

• her natural hair colour is actually a dark strawberry blonde? her dad is irish and he's a redhead that's why (stole this from @cam-eats-candles hehe) but she dyes it so it's lighter

• post musical: she starts wearing her natural hair!! and goes with her mom to the afro hairdresser to start to get her curls done right (cornrows mac!!)

• their parents divorced (movie) and it's for the best. mac has daddy issues and only goes to her dad to get cute jewellery for their girlfriends 💖 (he doesn't just sell engagement rings. a lot of regular expensive rings, really)

• she's not a baby, she's not weak nor completely innocent and pure!! the girl is a head cheerleader, she's strong and flexible as hell.

Heather Chandler

• heather chandler is Also a lesbian BUT she is on the ace spectrum like demisexual? so yeah she's double disgusted when she "sleeps" with men

• that's canon i know, but she's fat, and not the socially acceptable-hourglass kind of fat. big arms! big tummy! double chin! (i see fanart of her just being chubby quite often and it's ANNOYING like that's a big part of her character)

• she's perfectly healthy like this as are many fat people :))

• i also like the hc that her attempt at sewer slide made her permanently disabled and that she keeps using a wheelchair! because it happens, it's important to show it, and it gives me a lot of ideas for cute kindergarten girlfriends prompts 💓💓

I've been playing DR THH for the first time! It's absolutely incredible and feels ten times better to play it for myself. But this means I have some THOUGHTS. Here we go! :)

- Hiro is probably both ADHD and autistic. He seems to be a bit behind in some terms, and developmental delays in speech, language, and motor skills are common in those with ADHD. He also does NOT know what a social cue is and seems to make jumps to try to compensate for it. ASD, maybe?

- Togami with the comphet tendencies on him? I wonder if he even knows boys are an option.

- Kirigiri was in denial about being a lesbian for years and came out the other side with two girlfriends (that she refuses to reveal the identity of because she's embarrassed about how fast she melts when she's talking about them).

- Toko is well aware of her system and gets nervous whenever she's stressed because she knows Syo hates masking as her and will out them as plural when she takes front to protect them, which Toko thinks is unsafe. (True, considering the killing game)

- Chihiro has people pleaser tendencies. End post. (I can never comprehend the he/him Chihiro vs she/her Chihiro debate, I'm sorry. I've tried so many times, I really just can't get it. Radfems/TERFS dni with this post, other than that, feel free to int no matter which you agree with. Just be civil.)

- Leon is LOUD because sensory go rvrbrbrbrbr

- Makoto also has sensory issues and loves routines. Autistic, maybe? I'm not sure but he's definitely ND. And trans FtM because I say so. /hj

- Taka overcompensates by being loud and incredibly forward because he's afraid of being underestimated.

- Mondo reacts with anger because that's how he was taught to deal with everything growing up by hostile company, his family and not. He's not a bad person inherently, he just uses his anger for everything because that's all he knows.

- I have once again decided I fucking hate Hifumi. Go to r/neckbeards, you fucking egg.

- Hina is dyslexic and has ADHD! Also might be ASD. Swimming special interest? I think that would be very cool of her.

- Sayaka has a photographic memory! But she does tend to forget details of things when she's stressed out or scared.

- One of Toko's headmates has synesthesia and helps her write descriptive scenes in her novels using that! Toko is very appreciative.

- Togami doesn't like his glasses very much but can't stand any other style of frames, so he just deals with the pair he has and doesn't complain.

is it ok for me to identify as voidpunk even if i haven’t had any hateful or bigoted or dehumanizing experiences? i’ve had a pretty good life, i just feel a connection to voidpunk because i’m neurodivergent and have some strange beliefs regarding society and i don’t like people, and i feel that this label and community feels comfortable.

i don’t want to offend anyone by participating in voidpunk when i haven’t been dehumanized, there’s nothing for me to reclaim. i just really like the idea. can i still identify with voidpunk?

Before we get into the nitty gritty of how we feel about this, I want to emphasize that no one can tell you who you are or what you can or cannot identify as. Ultimately your labels are your business, as long as you’re not deliberately using them in a harmful way, and the fact that you are asking these questions indicates that you do care about respecting these terms and communities. If you were hoping for solid answers, I’m afraid we can’t provide any. All we have to work with is our experience in the voidpunk community and using the voidpunk label. I hope this is helpful, at least.

The voidpunk community, in great part, is made up of neurodivergent people. We are autistic and ND in many other ways, and being ND is one of the largest influences that lead us to the community. I have long emphasized that voidpunk is primarily a community and label that is about reclaiming dehumanization, because that’s very true, but there’s some crucial pieces I think I’ve missed in how I’ve talked about it before. I don’t think people realize that dehumanization doesn’t just look one way. Our personal experiences of dehumanization and dehumanizing oppression have often been of the more blatant and “severe” variety, but those dramatic experiences weren’t the only ones, or even necessarily the most harmful. What has far greater contributed to our current identity and our experiences as a whole is not our more intense experiences of bigoted violence, but consistent experiences of subtle and pervasive ableism throughout society as a whole, and social attitudes about ND people and whether we are deserving of the human right of autonomy. These attitudes don’t just manifest in slurs and hate crimes; far more often they look like passive aggressive comments or systemic issues that are so baked into our every system that they’re near impossible to notice.

I’m not here to tell you what your experiences are, but I know as a neurodivergent person that moving through the world we currently living as ND is in and of itself dehumanizing. We also have many views about society and people in general that are often called “strange” or considered weird in some way, and this is largely because of how neurotypicals value autistic and ND thought. Us being neurodivergent doesn’t just result in direct and explicit ableism, it also results in more subtle and pervasive alienation and other less noticeable forms of oppression. Being neurodivergent means living in a world designed to exclude us, and the invisibility of ND people results in us fundamentally existing outside of the boundaries of what neurotypical people tend to understand as human. The way we think, feel, and express ourselves is often considered by neurotypicals to be outside of the realm of human possibility. Even when we are not literally facing hate crimes or life threatening bigotry, we constantly face isolation and other subtle dehumanization. This is an inescapable and unavoidable fact of living in an ableist society. You say you’ve never had any dehumanizing experiences, and obviously only you can say for sure what your own experiences are, but have you ever considered that dehumanization doesn’t always have to seem obviously bigoted and hateful? Do you know that it’s possible to never face any “extreme” bigotry, but to still be isolated and dehumanized by a society that devalues you as a human person?

I say this because the feelings you’ve described are very similar to many of our own. It is completely up to you how you label your experiences, but I think that there’s a reason you were drawn to the voidpunk label and feel so comforted by the community. The voidpunk community is a community of people who think and feel the way we do, in a way outside of the typical conceptualization of what it means to be human, and it’s very likely that you think and feel that way because you’ve experienced dehumanization without fully realizing or understanding it. A lot of experiences we’ve had with oppression or discrimination, we didn’t even realize were harmful until we were much older and went back to examine the situation further.

If you truly and completely believe that your experiences and feelings have nothing to do with dehumanizing oppression (though, again, I do think that’s a likely possibility, and it’s very possible to experience things like microaggressions or pervasive oppressive attitudes without realizing, also this is very common with ableism specifically) then it still is ultimately up to you to choose how to identify. It’s good that you acknowledge the community as being rooted in reclamation and I do think it’s important to remember and center those experiences as what makes the voidpunk community what it is, but at the same time your experiences generally sound very closely in line with the community and with our personal experiences. Ultimately, what specific trauma you have should not decide your place in an oppressed community, it’s whether or not you identify with it while recognizing and respecting its roots. 

TLDR;If you feel comfortable in the community, go ahead. You’re the only one who can know what labels are right for you and your experiences. I’m certain everyone will welcome you. It’s certainly not a community I’d ever see anyone gatekeeping, and if you do see anyone try to gatekeep voidpunk let me know and I’ll send them a strongly worded message. /hj

-i think the last like two books in the actual series (not the spinoff or whatever the fuck it is bc i havent read it still despite owning the book) should just not exist and instead they just get therapy and get to be real kids. like when they went to an actual school type beat but without the drama and almost dying and wacko science stuff

-also get rid of all the confusing sibling plotlines like the characters can stay but im just. fuck the weird sibling shit it's so unnecessary. the only siblings in this version are the dumbass bird children
