Being best friends with Legolas
Tumblr media
Headcanons below the cut!
Legolas and you are probably inseparable.
I mean let's be real here, when it comes to friendship, Legolas values it so much.
You're practically family to him.
And you think the world of him.
90% sure as young elves, you two would spend all day in the woods and play tag, practice archery or just run around and laugh about something.
hang out in the trees, swing from tree to tree.
usually you'd instigate the tomfoolery (as Thranduil would point out) and Legolas would just follow you with a soft smile because though he's not very expressive, it's super clear that he loves to just hang out with you.
Yeah, Thranduil ain't too happy about that, though. But then again, when has he EVER been happy after his wife passed away?
It's obviously no surprise that when everyone's gathered in Rivendell at the secret council with Elrond that you volunteered to go with Legolas.
Wasn't really a favored choice, though, considering that Elrond gave you the side-eye and Gimli almost lost his mind at the thought of having to deal with not just one, but TWO elves.
Poor dwarf's wringing his hands in the air, and swinging his axe around.
Doesn't sway Legolas's opinion, he's ecstatic about the fact that not only were you joining The Fellowship to get rid of the One Ring (an important task) but you were going to be able to hang out with him even more?
The past few years the two of you hadn't seen each other since he had been with Aragorn, but this was a prime opportunity!
You'd probably eat Lembas bread with him and chat about how your life has been since you've grown up
Not much time for your usual shenanigans and the dynamic has quite shifted since you were young
Rather than trying to do something for the sake of adventure, you were going on an adventure for the sake of saving Middle Earth.
Yeah, BIG change.
And Legolas, being the best friend you could ask for, would certainly help you along the way, guide you through the quest and still be that kind soul you knew when you were young.
You could tell him anything, and he'd listen intently
your own personal little therapist and he'd listen to you rant about something
and he's ALWAYS interest to hear what you have to say, even if it's in the middle of fighting a bunch of orcs or Nazguls.
Y'all got each other's backs ALL the time.
I mean ALL the time.
When Legolas and Gimli are having a face-off at Helm's deep, best believe you're killing these orcs alongside him
"That's not fair! You can't just add your kills together!" Gimli would cry out
"Ah, but you forget, we're practically the same... one in soul," you'd reply with a cheeky grin.
Legolas would totally grin back as Gimli's losing his mind.
The banter?
Insane.
You're more forward than Legolas, so you're quick to tease Gimli whenever an opportunity comes up. Legolas is more subtle, finding only a few moments to tease the dwarf
but when he does? yeah roasted
Both of you teaming up against Gimli for fun sometimes, hunting together, making plans
Safe to say that when Legolas leaves for the Undying Lands with Gimli, he brings you as well.
Just the three of you guys, on a boat, talking about life and making tons of jokes
Best friends, side by side, with no worries at all.

Falling Leaves, Rising Love
Legolas x reader
Tumblr media
In the year 3001, under the golden hues of autumn, Rivendell shimmered like a jewel nestled in the heart of the valley. Its beauty was not just in its cascading waterfalls or the ancient, whispering trees, but also in the harmonious blend of nature and Elven architecture. It was here, in this serene abode of Elrond, that your story began.
You had lived in Rivendell for many years, finding solace in its tranquil gardens and the wise company of its inhabitants. Your days were often spent studying ancient texts or wandering the lush paths that wound like silken threads through the valley.
On a day painted with the vibrant colors of fall, Rivendell welcomed a group of Elves from the Woodland Realm. Among them was Legolas, son of Thranduil, whose arrival stirred the quiet air of the haven. You first saw him from a balcony adorned with climbing ivy, overlooking the courtyard where the newcomers were being greeted.
It was a moment suspended in time. Legolas, with his fair hair catching the sunlight and his bright eyes reflecting the clear, blue sky, turned just as you leaned forward, curious about the new arrivals. Your eyes met, and in that instant, something intangible and profound passed between you.
Legolas was struck by your presence, a feeling unfamiliar yet unshakeably deep. He had journeyed through Middle-earth, seen the wonders and horrors it held, but never had he felt such an immediate connection. You, equally taken aback, felt a warmth spread through you, an ember of emotion that you could not yet name.
The days that followed were like a dance, a gentle orbit around each other. You found reasons to be where Legolas was, and he, in turn, sought your company. Conversations flowed easily between you, filled with laughter and shared insights. In the Elven halls, by the murmuring river, or under the vast, starlit sky, your bond deepened.
Legolas was enchanted by your intellect and kindness, the way your laughter seemed to make the world brighter. You were drawn to his bravery and gentle heart, the wisdom that lay behind his youthful eyes. In Rivendell, time seemed to stand still, yet each moment you spent together was a cherished memory in the making.
As autumn waned and the leaves turned from gold to brown, your connection grew into a love that was as deep as the roots of the mountains and as enduring as the stars above. In Rivendell, amidst the timeless beauty of the valley, you and Legolas discovered a love that was as unexpected as it was profound, a love that would endure the passing of ages.

So my sibling and I love discussing lord of the rings and how the characters make us feel.
A couple of nights ago, we were talking about Aragon and Legolas, particularly about the kind of safety we would feel around them and how well they would protect us/ease our anxiety.
I came to the conclusion, that for me personally, Aragon is like a weighted blanket. You can fully curl up under the blanket and your heart rate slows down, you just feel safe.
But with Legolas, it would be like having a cat or dog sleeping on you or your bed. You're happy to have them there, and they does provide you with comfort and a burst of happiness, but you also have to make sure not to kick them off the bed, and you stay up half the night trying not to do so. Not that he isn't safe, but like, that's how I would feel around him.
hope this helps. [and for those of you who can sleep comfortably with an pet, you're really lucky. the cat I had a while ago wanted to sleep on my chest and my dog is basically a wriggling hot water bottle. I just prefer sleeping with a weighted blanket.] [and I'm not talking about sleeping *you know, the thing you do when you close your eyes and go unconcise for several hours* with the characters, I'm talking about if they were a cat, dog, or weighted blanket. And I also wouldn't do the other kind of sleeping with them because ew.]

Ngl, obsessed with the idea that the questers know that legolas is, if not thousands of years, then centuries old, but it not regestering until he mentions having met their ancestor or a historical figure to them. It doesn’t help that legolas looks like a teenager.
Just like that scene with eowyn realizing aragorn is a legit grandpa but with legolas and the rest of the walkers instead.
Legolas: i never had the pleasure of having a conversation with the man, but from the brief glimpses of (insert boromir’s ancestor from 1000 years ago here) that i saw, he was an honorable man.
Boromir, bluescreening: yes, he was known as quite the chivalrous man. But for you to have met him you must be at least a thousand years old!
Legolas: *clicks tongue and doesn’t say anything with an amused smile*
Aragorn, who has gone through all these emotions already: older.
Gimli: Older?? Are you telling me that this beardless, pointy elf with a face of a teenager is, what? 2000?
Aragorn: more.
Gimli: MORE???
Merry: if he is close to 3000 years than he was probably born around the last war for the ring!
Legolas, enjoying this all immensely: i was old enough to fight in it actually.
Pippin: alright, so legolas is 3000 and a few centuries. That’s a lot older than i thought to be honest. He looked like the youngest elf in rivendale.
Legolas: i’m 4000, actually.
Gimli: GODDAMN IT! I knew we shouldn’t trust these babyfaced point ears! You can’t even tell their age!
Legolas: if it makes you feel better, other elves also have a hard time discerning the age of silvans. They’ve routinely thought of mine to be millenia younger that we actually are.
Boromir, having an existential crisis: what the fuck

lotr/the hobbit incorrect quotes
part 3, i do not intend to stop
*three hunters at night*
Legolas: i love you Gimli
Gimli: yeah, i love you too
*silence*
Legolas: we both love you as well, Estel
Aragorn: thanks, i was starting to feel left out
— — — —
Bard: you know, i wish you would just admit that you made a mistake
Thranduil, stirring his coffee with passion: i PREFERE it with salt
— — — —
Pippin, excited: hey Boromir, we made you a friendship bracelet!
Merry, also excited: *showing boromir a very ugly, yet made with love bracelet*
Boromir: Yeah, you know… i’m not really jewellery person…
Pippin: oh… it’s okay…
Merry: it’s fine, you don’t have to wear it…
Boromir: No. I’m gonna wear it forever, back off.
— — — —
Legolas: whoops-
Aragorn: whoops? WHOOPS? We are far past the ‘whoops’ situation! ‘Whoops’ is but a distant speck in the review mirror! We are firmly in the ‘oh fuck’ territory and i expect you to ACT LIKE IT!!

you guys seemed to enjoy my cringe-fail legolas sexy gimli post so here’s some more of my thoughts ab that dynamic:
-when legolas goes home and announces his engagement to gimli thranduil is shocked but every other elf is like “yeah checks out. that kid’s always been a little weird.”
-gimli goes home to announce his engagement to legolas and every dwarf promptly loses their SHIT at the fact that THE gimli, son of gloin, is betrothed. only to further lose their shit at the fact that it’s to that weird elf prince that they have never heard speak unless to send some sort of diplomatical message for his father but some dwarflings once saw him sobbing in front of a tree in the middle of a rainstorm while gripping a fallen branch.
-thranduil only gives his blessing to the proposal once he realises just how angry all of erebor is that their most eligible bachelor, gimli, the silver-tongued battle ready diplomant and descendant of kings, has been stolen away by thranduils weird tree-hugging naked star gazing hippie son.

OK SO I HAVE A THEORY
I’m like 100% sure that Aragorn and Thranduil don’t know each other’s names
In the two towers, when aragorn, gimli and legolas are surrounded by the riders of rohan, aragorn says “i am Aragorn, son of Arathorn. This is gimli, son of gloin, and Legolas…” …… “of the Woodland Realm.” He doesn’t know Legolas’s dad’s name. Could’ve just said “Legolas son of Thranduil”, that’s not even awkward to say!
And then at the end of botfa, Thranduil is talking to Legolas and he’s like “There is a young ranger amongst them. He is known in the wild as Strider. His true name……..” ……… “you must discover for yourself.” Just admit it, you two. You don’t know each other’s fucking names.

Oropher and little Thranduil.
Tumblr media
Little Thranduil is a very restless and energetic elfling. It's so difficult for him to sit in one place and do nothing, so his ada gives him a very important task - turning the pages, because if you don't turn the page in time, ada will not be able to read further and the story will be interrupted. Little Thranduil takes his duties very seriously.
Thranduil and little Legolas.
Tumblr media
Little Legolas is very fond of listening to stories, because he is a very curious elfling, but his ada's voice, deep and bewitching, calms him and makes him sleepy. Listening to ada's stories and not falling asleep is very difficult, but someday he will definitely be able to listen to the story to the end.
