numonous, the creator of that one lesbian flag, is a terf. she wasnt one when she made the flag but shes one now and said that she regrets making that flag.
just fact checked, thats true. :( searching terf on their blog brings up some uhh… Shady shit
ah, damn, thats a shame. i checked their blog a while back when i had 2 link, obvs, and i thought their description was sketchy but i only glossed over it, really sorry i missed that somehow ^^’ wont use it in the future !
id take the posts w/ it down, but thats a lot of icons and i dont have the time to go thru and fix all of them, so dont use those icons folks :(i might be able to edit the most recent ones though.
eta: gonna attempt at taking all of them down, it might take a while but eh i have time to kill

Hi! This might be a stupid question with an obvious answer and if it is, I'm super sorry. But what's the difference between the lipstick lesbian flag and the usual lesbian flag? Is there more than one?
Hooboy, okay. Buckle up.
***I wasn’t particularly involved in this bit of history, so if anyone has any corrections to my timeline or events, please let me know!
So back in 2010, thislesbianlife (a lipstick lesbian who also happens to be racist, biphobic, butchphobic, whorephobic, and ableist) was upset that “even bi’s have a flag” (and conflated the rainbow flag as belonging to gay men only) and decided to create her own flag. Thus the lipstick lesbian flag was created, ie the pink-striped flag with lipstick prints in the upper left.
I don’t know the timeline after this, but somehow the lipstick lesbian flag gained some attention and a select few lesbians (probably some lipstick lesbians who followed thislesbianlife) picked up the flag and decided “well, without the lipstick print, this could just be the lesbian flag!” and thus the pink-striped flag (aka, the lipstick-less lipstick lesbian flag) became a lesser known but growing symbol of lesbians.
Now, of course, there were people who knew back then how problematic and gross thislesbianlife was who disagreed with and were upset by this choice to utilize the flag for the entire community. I would assume there were also plenty of lipstick lesbians upset at thislesbianlife getting to brand their community as well. And, of course, many butch and gnc and likely nb lesbians did not feel represented at all by this heavily feminine, pink-striped flag.
For at least two years, these folk who did not feel included by the pink-striped flag spoke up about it and tried to get some better creations going. They were effectively silenced by people who did feel represented by the flag who continued to use it and help popularize it. During this time where the pink-striped flag gained more visibility, thislesbianlife’s problematic and disgusting behavior was forgotten and that was likely a purposeful effort by the people promoting the flag in the beginning who, if they were her followers, echoed her bigoted sentiments.
Unable to gain traction and being buried under the popularization of the pink-striped flag, the discourse, discussion, and debate over it seemingly died down. So for many years, a small portion of the community continued to use the lesbian flag, which helped it be passed around to positivity and headcanon blogs and to the queer but non-lesbian sphere, and so some folk came in only knowing the pink-striped flag as the lesbian flag and none of the history behind it, though a select group who went searching may have realized it was at least some sort of sister flag to the lipstick lesbian flag with the lipstick prints.
And to be fair here, the pink-striped flag has never been a hugely known symbol, but it certainly did get passed around to enough people and used on enough blogs to become pretty entrenched as the “lesbian flag”.
Anyway. Sometime this year, the criticism over thislesbianlife, the lipstick lesbian flag, and the appropriation of the flag to be forced on the entire lesbian community came up again. I would hazard a guess that the right people at the right time posted about it and the posts managed to gain some visibility and this time, lesbians talking about how the flag was not inclusive to them and about how the creator was a dirtbag, were able to gain a wider audience.
So for at least the past few months, there’s been a semi-concerted effort to create a new, actually inclusive flag. Here’s all the suggestions I know of thus far:
Grey-blue flag by apersnicketylemon
Altered grey-blue by kijiotsugu and apersnicketylemon
Yellow-magenta flag by astrotomy
Complimentary colors flag by mod k on fandomshatelgbtqpeople
Complimentary colors edit by furvanoctua and mod k
Cool colors flag by numonous
Pink-red flag by nilia… and thislesbianlife
At this point, there hasn’t yet been a version that’s become widely popular or supported by the majority, so now there’s still the people that have no idea that there’s even a lesbian flag and between those that do, there’s no agreement or particular effort to settle on one and popularize its use. At this point, anyway.
tl;dr The difference between the lipstick lesbian flag and the “lesbian flag” is a lack of lipstick prints, but as the pink-striped flag was never meant to be inclusive of lesbians of color nor any butch, gnc, nb, disabled, sex worker lesbians, there’s never really been an actual, widely used lesbian flag. But there have been recent efforts to again push for one!

can i have a nepeta leijon talksprite? i had naturally big eyebrows (but not huge), alot of freckles, one blue bandaid on my cheek and one on my nose, and id prefer for blush to be added in but you dont have to if you dont want to! my outfit was the same as in canon, but can you add in a few pins on the jacket? i had a lesbian pin, an autistic pin, and a polyamory pin! i also had pretty sharp fangs, and olive lipstick on my bottom lip, but the top lip had black! thank you!

Here you go friendo!  Due to the controversy around the “““common”““ lesbian flag (aka the lipstick lesbian flag) I used @numonous ‘s lesbian flag.  If you want me to make it the lipstick one, just let me know and I’ll change it!

why exactly has sadlesbiandisaster or whoever been allowed to keep their flag in the running? it's really easy to go through their blog and see they hate ace/aro folks? why even have a flag that would inherently exclude ace and aro lesbians? that sends the message that lesbians aren't valuable unless they're performing romantic or sexual attraction and that ace and aro lesbians have no right to a flag which includes them. i seriously hope you'll reconsider.
First, I just wanna say that I'm not in any way involved with the survey. Like, I'm not one of the mods. I just reblog the survey posts and the flags in the survey with any info. I think is important. Anyways, I've spoken to one of the mods. I sent them an ask on this and then messaged them sources on sadlesbeandisaster's aphobia. One of the mods is ace themselves and was really uncomfortable with the posts I sent them. However, they're not gonna remove the flag, especially since it's not really close to winning. They really don't want to get involved in discourse as it's incredibly stressful, but they did ask me to keep spreading the info. on sadlesbeandisaster and their aphobic posts.I agree that it's not okay. I mean, the main reason people had issues the lipstick/femme lesbian flag was because a racist biphobe made it. So... dunno why you'd want one made by an aphobe. Andddd sadlesbiandisaster's flag is 1) just a combo of the butch and femme flags and 2) has so many similar shades of colors that it'll be hard to make merch of it. But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much right now. They aren't winning. Wait till the survey ends, see who wins, see how people react overall to the winner, etc. Maybe they'll do another survey if it gets too bad? Iunno. All that being said, you're free to use whichever flag you want, no matter who wins. That's what my fiancée's gonna do; she likes numonous's flag and is gonna use it even though it probably won't win.I'm sorry that this has upset you. Aphobes are vile, and I hate how they make people feel invalidated in their identities. But remember that ace/aro lesbians are fucking amazing, no matter what some asshole has to say about it! 💞

What are your icon/header now?
My icon is still the lesbian flag by @qrowrito I just took the flowers out because I thought it looked too cluttered and my header is the lesbian flag @numonous made because both flags are great and I can’t decide which I like better so I’m using both

Yo sorry buddy but numonous is a terf, and if it’s no problem, not sharing their flags around would be nice, since seeing transphobic trash is kinda triggering.
Oh no!  I’ll delete that flag right away, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!  I’ll be using @apersnicketylemon ‘s lesbian flag in the future
