3 _ 45 _ The Trick and the Tricked
First – An Echo Rebounds Through the Silent City
Trigger Warning for disturbing themes and images and some graphic descriptions. I know this is Little Nightmares, but sometimes these chapters get too wholesome I don't want people forgetting what series this is.
On the frumpy couch draped a long limbed and long bodied shape, the head tilted far back with the hat askew and low over the brow. Throughout the small living space extending from the inert shape, the air buzzed gently, a lone standing lamp in one corner – partially bent in the center – flashed periodically. Boxes and other castoffs such as clothing and collapsed erosion from the ceiling, coated the floor in a fine archeological curiosity of a past history. The archway of the distant hall awaited silent and dim, while a mischievous breeze skittered through a distant room somewhere. If not for the lanky figure sprawled on the couch this abode would be no different from the winding roads and prolific buildings brimming throughout the Pale City; deserted and forgotten.
However, abandoned on the floor huddled one lone cushion. The grungy cushion separated from its home beside the couch's base and waddled across the floor. That is, until it flopped forward, and the child tumbled over it.
It was great joy for Mono to climb onto the back of the cushion, snare it by a corner (or two) and try to pull the cushion up and over, all while he stood on it. Coupled with the weird distortions the Thin Man caused with his twitching, it was almost as if the cushion had a will of its own. Though it didn’t. Where or which way the cushion would flip was always a surprise, each time he tried to anticipate when he’d lose his balance and try catching himself before plopping onto his backside. Thus far, he was having a difficult time with that objective. This was all a lot of coordination and balance, a game he couldn't afford to avoid.
For Mono under his latest hat, the room is very dark, it was dark even when he managed to find his way back to the isolated dwelling a while ago. Some of the windows from other residents revealed the dark was ever present, thus quiet and dark time when the lampposts blazed brightest in the murk. This didn’t mean Mono could curl up in his room, since the tall thin man was already doing the rest. That was annoying and alarming to come back to, but nothing stopped the Thin Man from doing whatever he wanted to do. But the Thin Man did look so out of it when Mono caught him - the tall man should know better than run away from Mono when keep each other was the best. Then again, he didn't keep the bird.
She always liked when he caught something. This Mono knew, because they always had fights. When the Thin Man knew everything, then stuff like birds made him remember the girl. He knew Mono had Her and She was for a while his, and that upset the man and his hat. Even if he never did speek about Her to Mono, that didn't mean the Thin Man wasn't think about it. Mono tried not to think about any of that while he had his Thin Man.
Instead, he focused on other activities. Such as fighting the couch pillow. It wasn’t as great as the cushy pillows from the stores, but it flopped around and he could haul it through to the other rooms and across the small living space. He liked pretending the Thin Man was watching and impressed with Mono's power and skill. He always wanted Mono to do more. So, with mighty Mono strength he would lift the stiff cushion and hurl it a foot or something, and lunge at the stiff fiber to bite and kick. And headbutted it. Hard.
When he tumbled a little closer to the Thin Man’s place, Mono uncoiled himself and shuffled over to the statue figure. With a flash of his hand, he swung out an arm and smacked one long leg. And much faster, he turned coattail and zipped toward the corridor and hid beside the crooked edge.
Concealed by the corner of the wall, he fixed his hat and peeked out, checking for flicker of the light or a bristle in the static tinge soaked into the room. Nothing.
Zilch response.
That made Mono feel somewhat better, for some reason. The man in the hat was quiet. Mono made certain the rooms remained empty and untouched. Dangers were ever lurking, but Mono was amazing. He never let his guard down. When the Thin Man did rest, the Mono was watch. And he was best at it.
During the quiet spans between scouting, he partook in another activity that was becoming a steady recurrence. Mono would stick to one room and copy mark symbols from a book, onto one of the walls or floor. He only did a few symbols that didn’t need much turns or curves, and like the Thin Man, he liked to add some pictures. To tell his own sort of story. It was all mostly of scenery he recognized – trees and a field of grass, or the big water. And a door. Sometimes he carved out the places he liked to hide, like a broken desk or a little hole in the wall, and added the symbols to make work where this was. Birds would go into the symbol marks too, or what he decided would be bird marks. And a box. And the hallway, with the chair patiently waiting at the very end.
It would be nice if he could draw an opening in the wall and climb into that, whenever he needed one. No televisions or turning, or charred glass bursting at his back. The only time holes could be made in walls was when the boards could be snapped off, or some Viewer or another monster (with a thunder stick) put the hole there. It was better if kids made their own holes, but kids couldn’t do a lot of things that the monsters could.
Like shriek for no reason.
Speek of monsters and hiding, somewhere in his musing, Mono wandered from his speek marking and got into a stealth game! He hid behind corners, or under the dark spaces of furniture. When he abandoned the stuffy shadows completely, it was to emerge into the musty room on delicate feet. He padded among the sturdiest patches of the ruined floor, evading splintered wood or brittle scraps of papers. There was a special skill of skipping carefully and not shredding the feet pads on splinters or whatever else was ground into the timber. He practiced dashing between draperies of murk along the walls and skidded into the inky recesses beneath furniture, practicing holding his breath and not letting his nose tingle with the dust kicked up. It was a habit to retreat backwards on his hands and feet, then stare out into the room for any trace of threat. Listen for any hushed snuffling. Feel the air around his ears as a large shape hurtled with violent intent, seeking the children that sought to stay undetected despite their best efforts.
Sometimes monsters knew for no good reason. It wasn't fair.
Though he was not hiding from anything really, it was good to always know what he could manage while rooms brewed with passive and empty. Disjointed horrors came rooting around during the worst of times, and practiced kept kids from making the dumbest mistakes. Some kids got too scared to run, or couldn’t leap from windows to grab something. He’d seen a lot of kids twisted into bloody ravels.
He made a race from one room into the next, then squeezed up beneath a chair. The dwelling remained void of sounds, aside from his own heartbeat and muffled breathing beneath the brim of his hat.
Nothing lumbered about or bellowed, no abominable intruder crashed into the room. He sheltered from the air and the ugly blotches twisting across the walls. A smolder of pride burned in his chest, despite how inane the whole play act scenario was. He was so wily with escape and disappear, he could practically make himself vanish form the air itself. That skill kept him away from cages. Everything he did was only for escape, and watch others get caught.
The fire leapt around them. One-by-one, each kid got snared up. He didn't look back.
He scooted from beneath the chair, staying low and creeping on airy steps. With extreme care, he tested his weight on each floorboard. He wanted to make it to the doorway without a creak, but the warped boards made that feat a near impossibility. He inched to the hallway, first perching by the doorframe and checking for movement through the familiar fringes. The cap slipped some over his brow but didn’t bother his vision too much. Crouched low, he prowled into the corridor and slipped along the wall, then upon reaching the next open doorway he coiled down and listened for out of place noises.
Sometimes he thought about the other children. The one’s that chased. Being extra cautious was a new priority on his errand list. So many questions, no answers. Just angry faces and chase.
With a shiver, Mono shook his head. He stood up in the bathroom and abandoned the area, rushing through the corridor and back to the big room. The cushion waiting there received a full tackle, and Mono learned he could hold the lumpy sides and do a barrel roll across the dingy piece of carpet. For a while he fought the cushion, trying to fold it over and sit on it.
One of the plush toys lay on the other side of the room, dumped behind a crate. He abandoned the cushion to dash over and grab the thing. He pulled the floppy animal out and sat with it, giving it a strict scrutiny – arms, head, chest, legs – he examined ever loose thread, and its frayed seams.
“Hurt?” he posed, to the mute, inanimate, and very unalive creature. “Wh’rr hurt?” The stuffed toy didn’t complain when he checked its muzzle. He could pull it apart, that wouldn’t matter to it one bit. On the other hand, Mono would not like being pulled apart. He was still trying to work out how to explain soft to the Thin Man. That was important. The man and his hat didn't understand how soft Mono was, and how it upset him the way the Thin Man pried at his arms and squished his chest. Mono was careful while examining the animal plush. Except when he coiled his arms around it and squeezed. "Shh... shh. Non'that. Ya'ok."
The tall thin man had two modes. Annoyed and grumpy. Mono hoped something would eventually cheer up the man in the hat, but waiting for something never accomplished much. Now, Mono wasn’t sure if it would be okay to stop for rest, because the Thin Man went nutty when he did something different. It was hard to figure what the Thin Man wanted. He wanted Mono to do powers, or make speek, and sometimes looked at Mono so closely it made his bones tingle. And despite always grabbing and looking at Mono, he always looked grumpy about something. This had something to do with the other kids, Mono was certain. They were not Mono.
Mono left the plush propped by the wall and hidden by the crate. He snuck to the far side of the couch and climbed onto the center cushion, where the Thin Man’s arm sagged. One of the smoke sticks dangled between his fingers, a faint wispy trail wound away from its end. He glared at the innocent vapor through the gloom, shoulders cinched beneath the hat and his fists in a knot on the gritty fiber of the couch.
Creeping a little closer to the Thin Man’s wrist, Mono griped at the dingy fabric of the seat cushion with his toes, to keep himself from somersaulting forward. He never got a good look at them while the things were lit, the Thin Man was always busy eating them. The Thin Man did speek that this was not food, but he always gnawed on the burning things. Staring at the smoldering tip, it really didn’t look like food. He was close enough, and with the contrast of the drafty room, he could detect how warm the stick was. Is that what made the Thin Man warm?
Mono stuck his tongue against the end the Thin Man always bit—
The fingers twitched, and Mono recoiled to the base of the couch’s backside. He curled down into the crease, hands latched over his cap and knees barred around his face. For several seconds he hunkered down, waiting for anything, braced for the worst. However, nothing happened.
Uncoiling ever so slowly, he craned his head up and checked for other signs. The Thin Man looked detached and hushed, the sharp angles of his outline vibrating.
“Ar’wake?” Mono whispered. He inched closer to the tall thin man and pushed against his knee. No response. It didn’t look like the Thin Man shut his eyes, but Mono didn’t really think he shut his own eyes when he did half sleep. He couldn’t be sure. The Thin Man was different, anyway.
Despite his uncertainty, Mono shook out of the defensive bubble and stood by the Thin Man’s leg. He planted his hands on the stiff slacks and perched, watching the face intently. The static curled through the room calm, no reaction comes from the Thin Man. Mono tried to decide how long the Thin Man was rest, but the tall thin man was already out when he found him. It wouldn’t matter either, the Thin Man might have dream haunts or just wake when he felt like it.
Satisfied by the lack of any reaction, Mono put his weight on his arms and clambered onto the Thin Man’s lap. He scooted in close to the tol man and tucked his arms against his chest, then could nestle against the Thin Man’s tummy and listen for the static rustling. His hat bent awkwardly against his ear, but he was used to that. Warmth, but no rest. Someone had to be watch. As always, the task was left to Mono. He could be comfortable for a while, and have together; even if it was not real. It wasn’t really fake, either. It was important for Mono.
Skittery and off creaking did draw Mono from his quiet musings and calm. Mostly the walls groaning, a draft slicing through the distant window. He set focus on the main corridor, where something unspeakable would enter with bellowing and flailing arms. Sighing, he pressed his face into the edge of the jacket and kept one eye open, needle point attention directed on all of their surroundings.
She... the Six. The time with her reminded him about stuff that happened before the Thin Man, when he packed with other kids. Real pack. Not what he did with the Thin Man. That was forever ago and somehow felt much further away, even when he found Her again. She tried to throw him away once, but the Thin Man was there… he didn’t remember much before Her, and sort of forgot about her when he had the Thin Man. His head was foggy about everything he did to steal her back – he remembered the Tower, and doors. The light was bright and things floated around, but not Mono. Mono fell.
He tightened up into his coat more, and thought about the bird. Well, not the bird. The Thin Man took him from that place, and put him in another. He gave him a box to rip apart, and it had the food stuff inside. The Thin Man left the way he always did, and Mono had to go look for him again. Some other things happened. Another monster different from the Viewers and wandering through a building. Mono tricked it. He was good at tricks. He was getting better at catching birds. He was not good with keeping friends, though. At least he could be with the Thin Man sometimes. Thanks to Mono, the Thin Man stayed safe. It was a full time busy, but it made important.
Eventual. That was something the Thin Man always made story about. The event'eels. He always talked about the place where Mono would be, and there would be good stuff and friends. Lots of other children.
But he didn’t want other children or good stuff. The best was when he had his Thin Man, and when he was happy to be around Mono. At the same time, the creeping sense tinkled the back of his thoughts, reminding him that this wasn’t forever. Like all the others, the Thin Man had to go away too. Would he go back to the Tower and wait for some other kid to sum’en him? Maybe the Thin Man would just get bored with Mono and go stay with the other children, even if they didn’t like the tall man or his hat. He didn't understand anything about the Thin Man. except the keep children and watch them. That was what all the scrawled pictures of the silhouette and the hat meant, the children saw the Thin Man.
The edge of the city was still out there. It had a beginning, there had to be border somewhere. If it wasn’t a myth. It had been forever since he saw anything other than the tall spire in the distance, observing the ruined world it presided over. Or any other sort of landmark that to suggest a region beyond city roads and crowding skyrises existed. One day – not today but someday – he would try again to hurt the Tower. Then, the city might crumble away like the glitching children he tried to hug. Then, he wasn’t for sure but the idea did creep into him, if the Tower was tricked, it would never know where he would go, where he would be. It would all stop.
Maybe he would escape to the edge of the city and the open forests beyond the towering buildings. Forests and thick trees, like in the books he flipped through. Forests had animals, and biggest scary animals. The Hunters forests was very dangerous, what if all forests had big Hunters with thunder sticks and they fought the largest beasts? He barely got away from one Hunter. If not for….
Mono had strange ideas when it was quiet. His head always like to wander and plan. Someday….
He sniffled and pried himself away from the warmth of the Thin Man’s coat. He scrambled off the couch and dashed to the entrance of the corridor. He huddled by the wall, plucking debris out of his coattail. Not long following the retreat, the static on the air hummed. He plucked his head up and fixed his hat, when the Thin Man began to shift. The bent standing lamp flickered, as the tall thin man gave the room a short examination; he looked at the book left on the cushion beside him, before drawing his hand with the smoke stick wedged there, up to his face. The eyes beneath the hats sheltered rim gleamed as the orange ember blazed. It was always so neat the way the Thin Man did that.
No dream haunts. He would be in a good mood.
Mono left the shelter of the threshold and returned to the Thin Man. He ventured over to the long legs and patted the Thin Man on the shin, then turned and tottered off. Coattail flashing and legs whirling. He did debate taking a rest first, but it was important to do a scout through the lower stories; check for foods, see what the Viewers would be up to. Deal with them, too. A kids work was never done.
It’s the usual sort of hassle to haul something, in this case a large pot from the kitchen, to the entry. Even harder, pulling the door shut from the outside. But he has a solid scheme for getting the door secured and in order, allowing him to start off without alerting anything hazardous lurking around.
The rickety groaned in greeting around him. Some of the doors along the hall hung open, and the wind within windows spat at his passenger. No other sounds breached the symphony of the building, only the ruin of the walls ached by the wind and the rains sending rivers of water cascading down the walls. He reached the corridors turn and crept up to the corner, checking around the edge before moving out fully. On this side the floor was in worse shape, large gaps in the panels showed the rooms beneath.
A lever for an elevator does nothing when he pulled it. It might have something to do with the loose cable dangling inside the shaft. He has no problem grabbing the stiff cable and letting himself down, the dark of the chute surrounding him like an icy blanket. Through the walls trickled the rains seeking paths within the flanking walls, gurgling like the Flesh brewing between the cracks and surging across the floor. It was always there watching him, laughing at his struggles with getting to Her.
The sing box laughed at him too, didn’t it? He hated that so much. It knew he wanted with everything in his power to get her away, and fix everything that was wrong. Fight the Tower… or save his Six. He chose Six.
By the time he reached the only level with the open gate, his eyes burned with dust. He angled himself on the cable and leapt off, his feet made a satisfying Plop when he touched down. The floor creaked some as he renewed his running, choosing a lit corridor to the right rather the dim hall stretching into obscurity ahead.
Something might lurk that way. Cover first, listen, then scout around. He also made an effort to rub the wetness off his face before he got too carried away. He didn’t need to stumble into anything that would be rooting around for the sounds. There was no such thing as being too careful, just kids stole and never seen again.
From his recollection, these levels were very high up and the only way Mono could reach them was by crawling within the walls and sneaking through some vents. If there had been an easier way up, like a stairway or another elevator that worked, he would have used that. He wasn’t really sure if the window he entered from was attached to these floors and rooms he wandered through, sometimes the buildings leaned into each other and the only way to navigate the city was through the internal bridges of the connected corridors. A lot of times he did navigate the lower floors, and would get stranded from the upper stories because of a collapse or some other travel – such as a formally study rope snapping.
Mono was sure this time would be fine. He knew these corridors very well, and there were no Viewers lurking in the rooms he scouted through. No televisions crooning either, though the buzzing boxes no longer held the same draw over the creatures the way it used to.
Out on the streets, he had watched from a high brick wall as a Viewer trudged past a television sitting on a mound of cracked asphalt. Nothing stopped the Viewer from reaching the screen or the soft chatter of the song tunes, but the adult marched on by.
And came right over to where Mono was perched, and gawked up at him.
It was expected, but the whole thing still unsettled Mono. Which was why he had not chosen a side to hop off the wall. The Thin Man warned him the Viewers had been… zesty. Or testy? Something Eee about the televisions and not looking at them.
Thus far, none of the rooms had produced anything that could interest him. He crept along a countertop, working to get the upper cabinets opened with a thin pipe he plucked up. It was too light to be a weapon, and bent easily when the broken cupboards refused to share their secrets. He’d like to take the metal thing to the Thin Man and see what he would do with it, but he couldn’t climb with it and didn’t have a way to hook it onto his coat ring.
He sat beside the cabinet, fiddling with the ring on his coat and trying to bend the pipe, but something in the doorway caught his attention.
It was a flash of something fast, and he twisted around to face the other entry fully. There was another doorway he had been facing, but that led deeper into the home. It would be bad to get trapped in the dwelling, but he wasn’t worried about the thing he saw.
Taking the pipe along, he rushed to the threshold where he saw the movement. When he reached the edge of the doorframe, he crouched low and watched the large room.
As he knew, it was an other child. The Thin Man must have been looking for them. This realization made Mono’s chest tighten. They must be lost. The kid was sneaking further along the wall, across from where he huddled and watched. The kid snuck and glanced around, but didn’t notice Mono yet. When the other kid was near the doorway at the other wall, Mono inched away from his hide spot crept after them.
The other kid navigated through the next room. Their face skimmed over furniture and a collapsing bookshelf, but none of the furniture gave much hide space. The only way out of the room was a vent close to the floor. Mono didn’t wait for them to disappear into the dark passage, and scurried into the room,
“Psst. Hey.” He didn’t stay in the open, and ducked under a nearby table when the other kid looked back. Now that they faced him, he decided they might be a girl, in a very oversized sweater or some other kid of shirt thick with thick fiber. It might’ve been all the kid wore, since it came down all the way to their knees. He couldn’t tell and that wasn’t important.
“Woo,” the kid called back. She(?) turned and went to the opening of the vent, but stalled there to twist around and beckon to him. Then she slipped into the gloomy passage. The thudding noises hummed back into the room, soft and careful the way children stalked through the hollowed passages to avoid alerting creatures.
Without wasting any more time, Mono scampered to the flue and crawled inside. The pipe clonked the walls when he tried to haul it inside, so he ditched it in favor of catching up. It didn’t take him long to reach the other child in the vent, he was good at skipping on his fingers and keeping his strike fluid. He was always good at flee and hide.
“Hey.” In the faint glow from an open vent above, the other kid glanced back at him. Used the familiar speek.
“Ladder?” he murmured. They didn’t respond, but they didn’t hit him or shove at him away. The kid only turned and kept moving through the vent.
“Him? He cooed. “For him?” They weren’t going the right way to find the tall then man, but she might was still searching around the lower floors. Was she protecting the Thin Man? That was his job!
It was some crawling and narrow turns in the vent, somewhere the walls buckled from a collapse. At some point it would cave in entirely, but he didn’t worry about that. Mono scooted out of the opening after the girl, his hand gunked up by something on the floor.
“Hey.” He tugged on the girls sleeve, and she looked over at him. “Mono.” He placed his palms over his chest, and repeated, “Mono.”
The girl tilted her head, her brows knitted in a strange way. She didn’t say anything, she just scuffed her heel on the floor. Her feet were strange, not like his. “Chi’va’yus cajuh yasstumah?”
It was Mono’s turn to tilt his head. “Cah…chus?”
“Tah muveus Polski?” she whispered.
Mono let his gaze drift away from the girl, his focus roaming the room and its furnishings. He wondered if the girl came here and waited for the Thin Man.
“Seer de chuztam.” She reached for his hand, but Mono was quick to snap his arm away and brush past the girl. He wandered over to the doorframe and crouched there, checking up and down the hall to either side. The doors along the corridor hung open, and from the pale glow of bulbs gleamed a sort of sheen on the carpet.
“Psst.” The girl inched out of the threshold, her eyes seeking the gloomy portals punched into the doorways. She kept close to the wall, sifting around the bundles of rubbish bags splinting along the seams.
Mono went the other direction, choosing to poke through the open rooms that looked deserted. One of the doors creaked from the gale blasting through the whole in a wall, where the window probably should have been. He wandered over to the edge where the floor splintered and broke away, his feet slipping somewhat on the wood greased by rains and silt. A gust snatched at his hat, but he was swift to snag it back before the rains swatted at his scalp.
He stood high above the rolling mist, watching the dark threads swirl downward to the obscurity of wherever the city and its buildings, and roads, and all the places existed below. The two worlds of the city, the places in the woven roads cutting through smaller buildings, and then the skyrises that stretched into the clouds – erasing the roads. He never didn’t think much about how he reached the summits of the roofs, or the trial of returning the roads below. The buildings were vertical island, each isolated by a sea of insubstantial storms clawing at the foundation. Why did the buildings exist? Who made them? To worship the Tower?
Mysteries that didn’t concern children. They offered food, they provided shelter from the storms, but once he was high into the structures the world below vanished. Ceased existing.
While exploring through one of the other rooms – not torn open and gaping at the clouds – he discovered a nest of toys and the picture speek on walls. He would have jumped onto the pile of soft plushies, but something was wrong with them. And it was not the scatter of leather wrapped bones layered among the bulbous arms and glassy eyes.
Before really examining the nest, he searched above. The homes always had weird crust and tattered stuff dangling from the windows, and cloth unraveling across the floor – it always caught his toes if he wasn’t careful. Something about the lacey threads on the walls and glistening in the flicking bulb, made him very uneasy. He supposed it was something he had not seen before, but it often worked that unusual things lingering around was not something to dismiss.
The Morgue Hospital was one place where a kid could never let their guard down.
Rather prod at the nest itself, he plucked up a piece of wood from the floor and dug it into the layering. It was silty and dusty, and sort of crusty too. It also held fast to the board like syrup. He didn’t fool around with it much aside from that, and let the flint of wood to its new home.
The other rooms were in the same condition, but Mono took careful scrutiny of the floors and the spaces beneath the furniture. When he first tried to enter a room, his foot caught on something and he tumble to his knees. A bit noisily.
That prompted him to scurry for the nearest chair, but when he got too near it his eyes caught a shimmer of something that made him full stop. Which caused another stumble, with how his foot was now sticky and caught on the flakes of wallpaper on the floor. He ignored that in favor of turning his head, and adjusting his hat enough to peer under the chairs legs.
More of the lacey stuff that shimmered. It looked more like cloth with how thick it coated the chair, but when light from a nearby lamp hit the strands just right, it made the fiber shimmer like filthy water. It looked colorful, like the light from inside the….
A trill of alarm lit the back of his mind.
Now that he was scanning the room over more carefully, his eyes could fix on the shimmering substance sleeked across the walls. At first, he thought it was just from the rains trickling across the drywall the way it always did. Water found its way into everything, despite how deep he burrowed into the walls. But this shimmering wasn’t really moving, it was glinting with each buzz of the light bulb. And also, the gurgling from water was not here. The room was near silent, except for the distant hum of the storm.
Mono did his best to scrap the gunk off the pad of his foot, then scurried from the room. He searched the high walls now, putting the pieces of an ominous puzzle together.
A lot of the rooms had no food. Viewers meant food. The rooms were vacant. Empty. But not abandoned.
“Hey,” he risked. Calling and hissing as he peeked into the rooms. Something about the shimmering wisps swaying in the drafts made him uneasy. He knew it was bad, he knew there was danger. But he didn’t know what. Only what would happen. “Psst.”
Some sort of Whump! rebounded from a distant doorway. It startled Mono into a crouch, and he hid beside the wall listening and judging from what made that sort of bump. For an extended time he remained huddled, looking like nothing but apart of the heap of garbage he stayed beside. It took had the streak of shiny stuff, but he didn’t get close to it.
No other sound alarmed him. Slowly, he uncoiled himself and padded over to the doorway. It was open a crack, with a blade of light peeking out. He slid into the room, checking the walls for anything that might be using the distant cloak of black to shelter terrible intent. Nothing alarmed his already leery thoughts, which led him to search the next pressing eyecatcher.
The girl was over beside the bottom cabinets, laying on her side. This alarmed Mono, especially when an other kid shuffled in closer to her.
Mono gave a snort as he sprang into the room fully, his arms bent at his sides and shoulders squared up. His most intimidating threat for other kids. He was ready to tackle someone.
The brash launched proved to be premature, since the other girl was slowly pushing herself into sitting upright. The bulb above the oven range flashed, momentarily casting darkness through the room. The new kid swiveled toward Mono’s direction and flapped his arm.
No fight, no anger. That was good. And a kitchen, too. Mono cast his gaze across the cabinets, and took in the mugs and junk he could see over the edge of the countertops. Some of the lower cabinets had been opened, but it didn’t look like the two kids had found anything.
“Hey,” he called, as he moved closer to the packmates. It was familiar, like… Her, and him. Together. The thought made him take a deep breath of the musty air.
The other girl slowly climbed to her feet, slow and awkwardly from the bad fall. She made a strange gesture at Mono, which spurred him to skid on his footpads and draw back a step.
It was the way her arm moved. It was broken, but then… she wouldn’t be moving. Not when there was no danger and no flee. The girl sort of raised her arm like a line was tied to her elbow, with her wrist and then hand trailing in a strange direction. It looked more unsettling than the Patients locked in the Morgue Hospital. Why did her arm move that way?
The girl swung her arm again, and the same uncanniness swarmed his thoughts. She took a step back and as she did so, her head sort of tilted back. Not all the way, but enough to convince Mono to take a step back himself.
“Hmm?” he cooed. He watched the boy, who was now inching towards him. When the light brightened once more, the eerie condition of the new child raised panic in Mono. The kid wasn’t wearing a shirt and the pants plastered to his legs had rotted to threads. He was thin, but the texture of his skin and the way the light glistened over the hollows in his ribs… was wrong. Like his bones snaped apart and were trying to drill out.
With morbid fascination, he watched the other kid as their arm made another flapping motion. The other arm dangled at their side like a hollowed shirt sleeve and thinner than a thread, if not for the fingers dangling from the end of that arm Mono might have missed it.
The girls feet scuffed the floor. But she stopped moving. So did the new boy. They stopped moving, but stood and gave him those eerie arm—
Mono’s hair stood on end, and in a flash he had teleported a good ways to the side, nearly colliding with a cabinet. Not a moment after, something whizzed by his shoulder and bowled into the new kid. Mono steadied himself on the cupboard door and backed away, aware he should flee and never look back.
But that had been fast. And absolutely silent.
The other kids flailing arms knocked the girl down as well. She crashed hard to her backside, skull cracking on a discarded knife. The other kid… sort of fell apart.
He was in pieces of limbs. An arm, a leg, a foot tangled up in the lacey gunk coating the cupboards. His head was still rolling, and just gone by the time the oven light pulsed again.
The parts of the kid that did not scatter unraveled. But Mono did not need to see what emerged to put the final pieces together.
A set of sharp limbs descended over the girls body. The creature did nothing to her, but turned its glittery fangs towards the other thing unfolding from the other kids chest.
Mono tried pushing away from the cabinet, but one hand was caught on the gummy silky that decorated the rooms and the child nest. The substance stuck between his fingers and across his palms like gluey trap (something adults sometimes used), it felt like he’d pop his hand off if he pulled any harder.
A lot of rustling and clacking came from the creatures. The spider things. The one that tried to tackle Mono was getting menaced by the one that tore apart the boys body. As for the girl, she sort of rolled over as she struggled to stand. Beneath mess of stringy hair, a set of sharp legs wound up and tucked back into the base of her skull.
Mono could not tug hard enough. He dug his heels into the floor, aware if he smashed his feet into the cupboard he would be triple stuck. The floor here looked safe, but dusty. He tried scooping up handfuls of silt and throwing them at the goopy threads adhered to his palm, but that didn’t seem to be doing enough. It would have been bad if the door popped open with al his struggling, but the whole thing was attached to the cabinets. And the spiders were done hissing at each other, they turned the glossy black eyes towards him. So many eyes, all directed at him.
He hated being looked at!
As the light flashed again, some beside Mono caught his eye. He swept up the shard of glass and jammed that into the space between his hand and the cabinet. Somehow, it did bite through the matted gunk holding him fast, and also churned at the wood splinter he ground it into. Mono dropped to his rump as he continued jamming the blade into the soft wood, tearing up more threads than wood. He bucked hard, fighting the urge to kick at the door. He was making progress, he was going to get loose.
The spiders things hurtled at him right when he gave a final cleave with the glass piece, and gave his body a hard turn – dragging his arm away from the cupboard, but nearly ripping the socket from its joint. Pain was nothing compared to the ghastly sickles drawing up beneath the bristly legs.
Mono launched aside, catching him on his palms before shooting up into a sprint. One of the spider things produced an audible crash when it hit the door, but the other ground to a halt and began turning on its several sharp limps. As he rushed for the doorway he glance over his shoulder, certifying that neither of the two creatures had renewed the chase. On the other side, the girl was just sitting slouched beside the cupboards and no longer moving. Except for the mound of hair coating the nape of her neck.
All the hall looked the same he thought every stretch of glittery patch had something eerie poking from the pockmarked walls. Mono didn’t stop or take second glances, at his back the prattling feet found their heading. The creature was moving fast.
Some of the debris scattered throughout the hall did slow the creature, though. Mono scrambled over a suitcase or a hunk of chair, whereas the spider thing had to adjust its footing. He only took another glimpse to check its progress, a risky look. The spider and the other one had caught up with it, and to his relief that bickered about where the many legs would go. It was still two spiders and him.
To his dismay he couldn’t find a way out of the dwelling, except for the vent where he and the other kid came in. The spiders would untangle from the next fight and come for him, though he didn’t want to be in the vent confined with those things. The room didn’t have anyplace where he could hide and no other way for flee.
He dove into the vent and thundered across the walls and floor, the sides twisted around him like a certain pathway undulating with flesh. The path beneath his feet was not disintegrating, but the rapping scamper of those ugly legs were gaining on him. A pitiful whimper spilled form Mono as he galloped towards the musty cutout of light growing in the distance. Something scaly and ugly swiped at his ankle, that only told him he was going too slow. Yet he couldn’t fold and kick his legs fast enough in the confined space, and at the last stretch to fresh air he tumbled. His hat went flying. Something caught against his shoulder as he spun over, kicking at the sharp ends flailing at his face. He couldn’t see anything of the creature, except the glitter of its eyes and the dew of juice fluttering on a curved fang.
The thing at Mono’s back pinched his hip. It occurred to him that he dropped something in the flue, and before the thought finished blooming entirely he had the spike bent upward. It still had a kink in the tip, but the spider latched all five arms around Mono’s wonderful coat and dragged him into its embrace. An embrace that was obstructed by the sharp spike.
Mono cringed back into the sharp legs, the entire sprawl of the spiders width twitched, the sickle fangs unfurled further apart than what he thought possible. But it moved no further near him, and the creatures iron hold eased by a fraction. With a final sputter, the legs went rigid and Mono was able to sag backwards beside the pole. He couldn’t release it yet, but he did lock the rear tip into a notch in the vent. This wasn’t the time to pause or catch his breath. Not far within the passage, the clatter of many legs raced after the scene of internal juices oozing down the pipe.
Coiling in own legs up under him, Mono supplied a strong kick to the underside of the first spider. This dislodge the sharp claws from his coat and got him away from the hovering fangs. He twisted and wretched, some of the hooks of the spiders legs tugged threads out of his most amazing coat. But the other spider picked up the pace without issue, its long legs speared through the gaps in the passage left by its slain brethren. The arched prongs narrowly missed Mono when he somersaulted backwards, an act when sent the top of his head smashing against the upper edge of the vents access.
Somewhat dazed but still conscious, Mono flopped from the opening and back into the open air of the room. The relentless spider creature beat at the carcass that obstructed its path, the shred of that moment gave Mono a chance to search the room for the exit; while his senses persisted to tip and twist. He was about to rush for the nearest doorway, on the far side of the room. However, the chittering of the sharp legs on the hard floor reminded him of fake children, jeering at him.
Stealing Her.
To his right loomed a rickety bookcase, most the shelves barely tethered. Too dangerous to climb and no place to go. Not that he needed it to take him anywhere.
Mono pivoted on his toes and launched at the bookcase. The first shelf he caught snapped under his hand, but he was already skipping up to the second on third slate without issue. With each hike and leap, the entire structure quaked against his forceful strides. The fifth shelf snapped under his foot right as the entire frame buckled sideways, the left wall disconnected from the inner slates and swayed while Mono dangled by his fingertips. With the creaking wood, he couldn’t decide where the spider creature had gone too – had it followed, or was it spooked away? A mystery for another time, Mono focused on finding purchased with one of his feet as the walls swayed and began to tilt. All falling forward, with him still locked on.
With a mighty leap, Mono took a blind leap to the side. Just the same way when he knocked down the key. He landed on a patch of matted pages from a garbage bag, but managed to roll aside as the entire bookcase came cascading down. Not far from where Mono touched down, the second spider creature was retreating backwards from the books and other junk flying off the broken slates. The ugly creature didn’t stand a chance, by the time it scooted all the way around to evade the shelves completely, the slates cleaved through its body – this was followed by the whole rocking explosion of the walls and whatever else still loaded the remaining shelves.
Mono staggered back from the silt kicked up, and used an arched arm to bar the wall of dust from burying his senses. This didn’t save from two stifled sneezes, both of which felt explosive in the empty crackle of the cataclysms wake.
No sign of the spider thing survived. It had to be tricked or suffering. He hoped it suffered.
Mono plucked up a bit of wood and chucked it at the bookcase. He snatched up a chunk of drywall, then a hunk of plaster; each item produced a sharp clatter as he propelled them at their target. The spider thing was tricked. Both of them. They wouldn’t be bothering any other kids.
For several minutes, Mono stood glaring at the bookcase, his fists knotted up at his sides. He wanted to drag the spider back out and trick it again – stitch it back together, then pull it apart. Over and over. He wanted to drown it, and bite it, and beat it with a heavy pipe. Hurt it again and again until he didn’t have anymore hurt in himself.
He HATED IT!
Without another thought of the scene, he whipped around and sprint out of the room. He didn’t care he lost another hat, he didn’t care about anything but getting far away from the dust and silence.
By the time he navigated his way out of the dwelling and back into the familiar open corridors, Mono had calmed down. Sort of. He stopped thinking about the crooked legs knitting behind the girls stringy hair, or the boys flesh unraveling from his bones, or the way the skin—
He shook out of the daze, realizing he was gawking at an open window in one of the corridors derelict ends. The wind moaned against the slapping and sodden rags dangling beside the broken glass, the lone remaining plank of wood rattled as the gale tugged at it. Tick-Tick… tick-tick… tick-tock. Tick-tock… tick.
Hovering high in the misty distance was the gleaming eye of the sharp spire, ever watchful of the buildings and citizens of the city. And possible Mono.
‘It calls to me.’
And Six stared at him from the void of the dark hood. The coat made Her important, just like the wonderful coat made him important. They would flee and escape all the terrible things that wanted to make them fail. He wouldn’t let them fail. They would hurt the Tower. He would show Her how. He showed her a lot of things for safe and flee, and how to pack.
Something blasted past the window, cutting out the sheets of rain only briefly. The shape was followed by a crackling wail but in the next moment it was gone, as if that never happened. The Signal Beacon seemed to smolder brighter like the eyes of the Hunter within the stitched sack.
Wandering around with nothing to show for it, Mono meandered his way back to the elevator chute with the stiff cord. It was just as cold and clammy as the time he slipped down, and climbing back up was no more a challenge than trying not to lose his grip. The metal was not as comforting as a sheet or tangled shirt, it wouldn’t give under his vice grip and only seared into his fingers like blades. He had to take a moment after leaping off and back onto solid ground to get his bearings, and rub the fresh tear in his palm. He tried not to remember how he got that. He did flee, that was all that mattered.
He ran away. The fastest got away, the slowest stalled the monsters.
Getting the door of the room shut was much easier when he could shove it from the other side. There wasn’t much reason for making the door shut, it was just a habit. As he suspected, when he went to the big room with the couch the space was empty.
He took a breath, feeling the stale air on his tongue. The door was shut, and after a short scout he would curl up someplace and rest. That jittery sensation hadn’t dissolved from his skin, every scrap of shadow or twitch of the light put a quivering panic into his skin. Static flakes bristled off his coat like a TV was around, but he ignored that in favor of keeping watch of his surroundings.
So lost in thought was he, the steady tick and tapping slipped by his hyper tuned radar. Up until long fingers swept around his body and lifted him high.
Mono snarled and began fighting. All his retaliation went into bites and clawing, but he was no match for the suffocating grip tightening around his chest.
“Child,” crackled the Thin Man. “Where have you been hiding? I could not sense you.”
The abrupt sound did not ease Mono one bit, and he renewed his gnawing on the boney knuckles. Especially when he was adjusted and pressed to the coarse tweed of the Thin Man’s jacket. He bit down so hard his jaw ached, and his sore tooth stabbed into his jaw.
“Shh. None of that.” The Thin Man moved. Or glittered and filled Mono’s head with the pulsing chatter of static; his own skin buzzed with the sensation, while the tired lamp flickered by the wall. The tall man pried him away and began prodding his body, nudging hard at his torso or plucking at his legs. Mono gave his usual growl of agitation, his arms scrabbled with the Thin Man’s wrists but he failed to dislodge himself from the fingers locked around his waist. “Why are you like this?”
A steady hum filled the air around Mono’s head, as the Thin Man glared at his restrained arm. Mono kicked at nothing, the Thin Man wasn’t near enough to get smacked.
“Do you ever not manage to maim yourself? Boy.”
The glitchy distortion sent his head into a spiral, though nothing happened, aside from the Thin Man easing down to sit on the couch. As for Mono, with a growl he latched onto the space between the Thin Man’s thumb and forefinger. The Thin Man did nothing but crackle about him never getting all bloodied, or whatever. Mono focused on chewing on the hand.
“Why do I bother tending your wounds,” warbled the man in the hat. “Your mission is to wander off and get brutalized. More blood is on that coat than in you.”
The lack of reaction made Mono clamp down tighter, even if it did nothing. Maybe something would change. He would make something change. A disapproving gust reminded him that his hat was still missing.
“Very well. Get it out of your system.”
The fingers pressed into his spine and Mono hated it. He hated being small and not doing anything right. The Thin Man would find out Mono messed up, and another kid was gone. That was why the Thin Man didn’t want him around the other kids. He was danger and he didn’t like when Mono disappeared, cause the kids….. The Thin Man would find them. Nothing stopped the Thin Man.
“There is no need to blubber like that,” the voice crackled in his ears. “You found me. Such a clever little boy.”
“Little,” Mono murmured.
“Yes.” The hands fixed around his shoulders moved, and he could pluck his head up to see the shadowed face of the man and his hat gaze down on him, the eyes glinting. “Such a little self-important boy. You believe the world revolves around you.”
Mono couldn’t fathom what all the speek meant. He repeated without direction, “Little.”
“Little,” the static affirmed. “You are certainly not tall. Not for some time.”
The Thin Man made such strange speek. Always about ‘event-yulls’ and ‘pare-doxes’ or ‘somedays’. The tall thin man always insisted, one day he would be gone. Mono was always meant to be alone. Always.
Why could he not keep the Thin Man? It must have to do with the danger and the other children. The Thin Man didn’t know anything about the other kids. Someday that would all change. Just like Mono would fight the Tower, the Thin Man would have to go, too.
Mono was barely getting his feet tucked up and his face buried back into the Thin Man’s suit, when the hands pulled him away and set him on the cold floor. He didn’t stay put – he couldn’t! The Thin Man was already glitching across the room, his shoes tapped across the floor in their rhythmic way. The tall figure only paused in the archway briefly, the lamp barely catching the shimmery glint of static before the Thin Man disappeared.
It took Mono more time to reach the Thin Man. It did help that the Thin Man didn’t keep moving, and was even looking back as Mono rushed down the corridor. The tallest figure in all the city even stayed still as Mono raced all the way to him, his own steps slowing when he was a few steps from the shoes. Mono tilted his head far back and found the shining eyes watching him from beneath the shadow of the important hat.
A shiver twisted at Mono’s spine. He didn’t want the Thin Man to find out about the other kids. He wanted the Thin Man to stay and have company. And also – it scared him to think though – Mono didn’t care about the other kids. He didn't. This always happened, they ran away. They left Mono or got stole, or hurt him. The Thin Man didn't understand anything about children. He was too tol.
Even though he didn’t get a good look at the girl, he knew her face would find its way into his dream haunts. She was nothing but one of the many he failed, and the memories would haunt him. And he hated her for getting tricked. It wasn’t his FAULT! I̵t̸ ̴ w̷a̷s̵n̷'̴t̷!̷
He jolted when a weight settled onto his head. Roughly.
It was the Thin Man’s palm. He gave Mono’s head a rough pat before straightening and glitching away. The silhouette flashed further down the hall. The gesture didn’t make Mono feel better, it did the opposite. The act did mean something to Mono, and that was the Thin Man didn’t mind him chasing. Nothing would happen to the Thin Man. He wouldn't let it.
Choking back some of the knotting in his chest, Mono broke into another run. He chased after the steady threading of static humming in the dwelling, simmering beneath the cracking clicks of the Thin Man’s steps. Tick-tick, tick-tock – the same sharp chiming that rolled through the endless corridor Mono spent ages trying to reach the end of. Opening that door had been the worst thing he’d ever done, but it had also been his most favorite.
If not for the Thin Man trying to keep Her and him, then Mono would have no one.

I heard it was Gaz appreciation week and you just know I had to participate are you kidding :’)
Eternal Garden
Gaz x my oc :)

Manny’s drawing pencil is hanging between his lips, either side tucked into the corners of his mouth as he struggles to get a small sunflower he’d just picked from the grassy top of the hill they sit upon, watching as the sun is beginning to set upon the horizon. Gaz? He’s giggling at Manny’s struggle, doing his best to sit still even though it did nothing to help the yellow flower sit still behind his hear.
“M’fuck, take off your hat.” Manny gritted before making a hissing sound to prevent his saliva from making the corners of his mouth a slobbery mess.
“It’s keeping the sun out of my face, love.” Gaz argued with a soft smile that made his eyes seem to glow like honey beneath the warm light.
Manny sits back against the heals of his boots, dropping his expression as if to say ‘are you serious’ without actually uttering the words from his tongue. “I’m a man hard at work and your hat is disrupting the view I’m trying to get.”
Gaz rolled his eyes playfully, eventually complying and taking off his worn down blue cap to set it on his bent knee. Manny pushed forward again—shuffling on his knees as he adjusting the sunflower once again, smiling at the perfection of what he always sees. An artists eyes, witnessing every single key detail that crafts the very face he wakes up next to every single morning, the face he falls asleep to every single night. The face that occupies his thoughts more times than it probable should for a soldier like Manny.
A man dedicated to the rush of chaos—nothing to lose except his life, but that mindset left him long ago.
When his dark brown eyes met softer, kinder, gentler ones like Kyle Garrick.
“Stay like that,” Manny hummed, shifting his feet on the grass to sit crisscross and rest his sketchbook on one thigh, using the other as an arm rest.
“You know,” Gaz bit his lip, trying to bite back his smile—not that he ever had to. Not with Manny. “Normal people usually take pictures.”
Manny’s face contorted with distaste, glancing up at Gaz in mock disgust. “Phones don’t capture what I want. Just a bunch of pixels that could get lost anywhere,” his attention is dropped down to his sketch, hand moving with grace with every curve and line that’s lightly drawn on the blank page. “Cameras don’t see you the way that I do.”
“And how’s that?”
“You’ll see soon enough, amor.” Manny winks, pointing the eraser end of his pencil toward Gaz before getting right back to work. “Just sit there and look pretty.”
And that Gaz did for the better part of the sunset, not that Gaz thought it would matter much seeing as Manny doesn’t draw in color. But he remembers Manny explaining what’s important when it comes to art—the details, the lighting, the angles and certain details that make it so much more intimate than anything else, he can’t really remember. Sometimes Manny just talks and Gaz will sit there and smile because it’s that voice that he gets to hear speak about normal things so passionately. “Done yet?” Gaz asks, watching the peak hour of the sunset slowly fade away behind the faint glimmer of the stars starting to appear above.
“Last minute details,” Manny sighed, scribbling the last bit of shading just beneath Gaz’s bent leg. “Alright, just about.” Manny handles his book carefully, crawling on over to sit next to Gaz with a proud, yet crooked smile. “Tada.” He flaunts the drawn page like it was something simple—origami he’d figured out in two seconds, building a Lego set—something so mundane, but it took Gaz’s breath away.
A sketch of him, but given every last detail that only a sniper’s—no. An artist’s eye can see. From him to the background, making the sunset light Gaz’s skin so beautifully even with a black and white shade of a pencil. “Fuckin’ hell,” Gaz huffed, letting his fingers hover the page as if it’d shatter to pieces the minute he touched it. Not that Gaz would break anything in Manny’s eyes. He’s only ever made everything better. Bringing a distant holy man such as Manny to see that, yeah, maybe God’s creation was meant just to live alongside Gaz and all this pure beauty he posses inside and out.
“Not a camera, huh?” Manny teased, stretching out a hand behind Gaz to press into the grass and hold his weight.
“Nah, it’s much better.” Gaz’s eyes almost water, not used to being seen this way. So…poetically adored. “What’s the hole here for?” He points to the small opening within the page by his ear making Manny reached with his free hand to grab the sunflower that rested behind Gaz’s ear, motioning for Gaz to lift the page and allow Manny to slip the stem of the flower right through with no resistance.
“That,” Manny says softly, brushing out the soft pedals with the pad of his index finger. “Is the one thing I didn’t want to capture with a pencil.” His eyes drag to Gaz’s expression, smiling when Gaz follows the motion. Inches apart, admiring the love their eyes hold for one another so effortlessly, shining in the eternal garden of sunflowers and lilies. A pair you wouldn’t expect to go together, but make such a beautiful sight that you can’t help but stare at the beauty they’ve got to offer.
Gaz scoffs, blinking away his tears of overwhelming love for this man. “Christ, you’re cheesier than my mum’s cheese stars, darling.”
Manny throws his head back as he laughs, throwing the arm that was already behind Gaz to loosely wrap around his shoulders now. “Ooh, I love it when you talk dirty.”
“You’re bloody disgusting, you are.” They both laugh hard now, leaning into each other in a playful embrace before the noise settles into a comfortable silence. Gaz is looking at the drawing once more. “You really see me like this?”
“Doesn’t even touch the surface.” Manny says in that annoyingly sweet, Texan charm he likes to turn on without even realizing he does so. “You’re more beautiful than any angel I learned about in Sunday school, my love.” His other hand brushes against Gaz’s jaw, turning his attention away from the book. “You’re my eternal garden. I’d never need to pick another flower if it’s just me and you, forever.”
Gaz has to blink back those tears again, nodding at Manny’s testimony of eternity. “Yeah, just me and you.” He leans in to close that distance, pressing their lips together in a soft, slow, and passionate kiss that further solidifies their souls into an unbroken mold. Then the kiss breaks, sighing as their foreheads are pressing together—not yet ready to pull away just yet. “Forever.”
Manny smiles, stealing one more kiss before he says against Gaz’s lips. “Forever and always, mi girasol.”

Baking Together
The kitchen smelled like warm bread and honey, the scent wrapping around you like a comforting hug. It was late afternoon, and golden sunlight streamed through the small window, casting a soft glow over everything.
You stood beside Armin at the wooden counter, watching as he carefully measured out ingredients with practiced precision. His brows were slightly furrowed, lips pursed in concentration, and the way his fingers so delicately handled the flour made your heart flutter.
"Alright," Armin said, pushing his sleeves up to his elbows. "We need to mix the flour, yeast, and salt first."
You nodded, scooping some flour into the mixing bowl—but a little too eagerly. A small cloud of white powder puffed into the air, coating your hands and dusting Armin’s arm.
He blinked down at it in surprise before chuckling softly. "Looks like the flour is more interested in you than the bowl," he teased, his blue eyes sparkling with amusement.
You huffed, wiping your hands on your apron. "It’s not my fault it’s so... powdery."
Armin laughed, shaking his head before gently taking your hand and guiding it back to the bowl. "Here, let me help." His hands, warm and steady, covered yours as he helped you mix the ingredients together.
Your breath caught for a second, but he didn’t seem to notice—too focused on explaining the proper technique. You, on the other hand, could barely concentrate on anything except how close he was, how his golden hair fell into his face, how his soft voice made your chest feel light and fluttery.
Once the dough was finally mixed, Armin wiped his hands on a cloth. "Now we knead it." He turned to you, rolling up his sleeves even further. "It takes some arm strength, but I think you can handle it."
You narrowed your eyes playfully. "Are you saying I’m weak?"
Armin raised his hands in surrender, laughing. "No, no! Just that it takes practice!"
Determined to prove him wrong, you reached for the dough and pressed down hard—maybe a little too hard. The sticky mixture clung to your fingers, refusing to let go.
"Uh…" You tried to shake it off, but it only got worse.
Armin covered his mouth, trying to hold back a laugh. "Here, let me—"
Before he could finish, you smirked and flicked a bit of flour at him. The tiny puff landed on his cheek, leaving a white streak against his skin.
He blinked, stunned for a moment, before his lips curled into a mischievous smile. "Oh, is that how we’re playing this?"
You barely had time to react before he dipped his fingers into the flour and tapped your nose, leaving a dusting of white behind.
"Armin!" you squeaked, swatting at him, but he only laughed harder, his entire face lighting up with joy.
Before long, both of you were giggling like kids as you swiped flour at each other, dodging and weaving around the kitchen. At some point, Armin grabbed your wrist mid-attack, spinning you around until you were both breathless, faces inches apart.
For a moment, everything stilled. His blue eyes softened, his fingers lingering against your skin as he took in your flour-covered face. "You look cute like this," he murmured, a shy smile playing on his lips.
Your heart pounded. "You’re just saying that because you don’t want me to throw more flour at you."
Armin chuckled, tucking a stray piece of hair behind your ear. "Maybe. But it’s still true."
Neither of you moved for a second, the warmth of his hand still ghosting over your skin. Then, realizing the bread still needed to be made, Armin cleared his throat and stepped back, his cheeks slightly pink.
"Okay," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Maybe we should actually finish baking before we destroy the whole kitchen."
You grinned, still feeling the warmth of the moment lingering between you. "Fine, but I’m getting my revenge next time."
Armin laughed, shaking his head. "I’ll be ready for it."
And just like that, the two of you went back to kneading the dough, but now, every touch and glance carried a little more meaning—a silent promise that there would be many more moments like this in the future.

Handle with care - 6
Fandom: MCU. Pairing/starring: Bucky x fem!reader. Word count: 1973 – couldn’t split it up. Content: Fluff! Yearning! Smut! Wait...what? A/N: Let me know what you think and please reblog – it’s fuel for more!
6.
- Reader’s PoV -
You’d had a hard time coming up with Christmas presents for everyone – especially because you aren’t entirely sure who’s going to be there. From what Pepper and the various agendas could tell you, it’s not going to be that many but just in case, you’ve gotten small presents for the entire team. Bucky had been the hardest, actually, but in the end you got him a copy of your favourite book with a note explaining why it means something to you.
Now you’re standing in the elevator, bag of presents in one hand and a big tin of cookies in the other as promised.
Stepping into the hallway, you can smell the food right away and hear the voices of the people who have invited you to share the night with them. Following the sounds, you reach the shared space and see how everything has been festively decorated and that there now are presents under the tree in the corner.
Then you see Bucky getting up, cozy sweater and a big smile that you’re happy to return.
“What ya got there, doll?” he asks, coming over and planting a kiss on your mouth without a care that the others will see for the first time just how “friendly” you’ve become.
“Cookies and presents,” you grin once he lets you go. “Mind putting these under the tree for me?” You hold up the bag of presents.
Dutifully he takes them, stealing a kiss more on the way.
Taking a deep breath, you turn to face the others, nervous and curious about their reactions to what they’ve just witnessed but if you’d expected something more than smiles and the normal welcomes, then you’d be mistaken – well, Bruce does look a bit surprised but he also mumbles in your ear when he hugs you that he’s happy for you both.
- Bucky’s PoV -
It’s a cozy dinner. Bucky’s seated between his best friend and [Y/N] and he couldn’t be happier.
Later she cozies up to him as if she’s made to fit that space beneath his arm. Tony’s distributing presents, eager like a little kid and nerves fill Bucky’s belly when he realizes that [Y/N]’s about to open the present from him. Nimble fingers make do with the shiny paper quickly to open the box and reveal the necklace.
“Oh, Buck!” she gasps, “it’s gorgeous!”
“Try it on,” her urges, eager to see the silver and ruby nestled on her skin.
But before she does that, she smothers him with a kiss. “Thank you. It’s too much!”
Nothing’s too much for my girl, he thinks as he kisses back.
---
It’s late. Tony and Pepper have disappeared. Bruce is probably in the lab trying out the new machine he got from Tony. Steve’s gone to bed. And [Y/N] is snuggled into his arms on the couch, fingertip creating invisible patterns on his thigh as they just enjoy the lights and the calm.
Then she sighs almost sadly. “I should probably get going...”
“You could...stay?” he tries, desperate to keep her for longer.
Turning in his embrace, she looks up at him. “You sure?”
He likes how she’s accepted taking it slowly. It has given him a chance to figure out how things are done and what is going on inside him – the last thing he wants to is to endanger her in any way.
“Yeah,” he nods, “I’m sure.”
Getting off the couch, he leads her to his flat in the Tower.
Leads her to his bedroom. She smiles up at him, soft and coy, curling a finger in silent request for him to come closer – and of course he obeys.
Bucky doesn’t object when she sneaks her hands under his sweater, carefully exploring his abs under the cover. Goosebumps travel in the wake of her hands and he has to suppress a shiver especially when she lifts the knitted material up and places a kiss on his chest.
Decisively, he discards the sweater completely. He’s dreaded this moment where he’d bare his arm and shoulder, see her recoil...but she doesn’t. She just gasps a little “wow” and continues kissing him anywhere she can reach while her fingers dance across his body and down both of his arms.
Then she steps back a bit to look up at him with a coy smile. “Give a girl a hand?” she asks as she turns, indicating the zipper on the back of the dress.
Haltingly, he unzips it for her, staring in delicious agony as she shrugs the dress off her shoulders, pushing it down her body until it pools at her feet. She still wears stockings and underwear and it’s the most sexy thing Bucky ever has seen even if she has the back to him. Reaching out, his fingers curl around her shoulders, making sure she doesn’t move so he has a bit more time to take it in. Dipping his head, he nuzzles into the crook of her neck, kissing her there and earning a soft sigh from her which goes straight to his groin.
“Doll,” he mumbles, not really sure what he wants to say.
“You decide the pace,” she promises softly.
His hands skim down her sides, moving around to feel the smooth expanse of her belly before roving upward, gently cupping her breasts through the lace. Bras nowadays are something different, he decides. He can feel how she puckers beneath his thumbs, straining against the sheer fabric. He wants to see.
Turning her, he isn’t disappointed. She looks all kinds of gorgeous. Eyes half closed as she revels in his touch, lips slightly parted.
Again, his fingers travel down her body, this time skimming over the front of her panties and pausing at the apex of her thighs.
“Bucky...” she whimpers.
He knows. He can feel it. Fuck, it’s not like he isn’t affected himself – a raging boner is straining against the pants and he really has to adjust or it’ll hurt too much.
As if reading his mind, she reaches out for his belt buckle but pauses with the fingertips just a few millimetres off.
“Can I?” she breathes, looking up at him with darkened eyes.
Swallowing, he nods.
She moves slowly and deliberately as she unfastens the belt and opens his pants. She only pulls them down a little bit, but it’s enough to grant a bit of extra space, the bulge now pressing past the opening. When she looks up for confirmation if she can continue, Bucky nods before she can say anything and it makes her smile.
Reaching down, she slips a hand into his pants, cupping him and adjusting his cock to stretch through the fabric of his boxers. Just before letting go, she gives a little squeeze to him, almost making his knees buckle, and then slides his pants all the way down to tangle around his ankles where he can kick them off very ungraciously.
As she looks back up at him, Bucky can’t keep himself from kissing her. He revels in the softness of her mouth, her taste.
Grabbing her waist once more, he walks backwards towards the bed, pulling her along and eventually when he sits down, he makes sure she straddles his lap. Not once have their lips parted and [Y/N] is tangling her fingers in his hair, making his scalp tingle so he can’t hold back a deep groan.
She’s rocking gently on him, seeking friction that he’s all to happy to provide, snaking a hand between their bodies. The lace there is damp and she moans, no, whimpers at the touch.
Spurred on by her reaction, he slides the thumb underneath the edge of the fabric, for a moment sliding between her wet folds before honing in on the clit.
“Buck!” she gasps against his mouth.
“I got ya, doll.”
And he does. Rubbing circles, he listens to how her breathing grows rapid and strained, feeling how her body tenses under his other hand while she clings on to him. Sometimes, his thumb abandons the spot to delve further into the slick and he’s astounded at how that’s all for him – but he returns to that sweet nub every time, causing her to gasp and keen.
“So close!” she mewls.
Pulling away, his heart aches at the disappointed whimper but she’s quick to catch up when he bodily moves her up the bed, ensuring that he’s on top between her legs. Greedily, his fingers move to pull down the panties, tossing them somewhere to the side. Then he shoves his own boxers off and he can’t help but notice how she does a double take at the sight.
- Reader’s PoV -
Your heart is still racing even as your body slowly accepts that it won’t reach it’s climax right now. But as he bares himself for you, kneeling completely naked in the bed, you have to steel your nerves at the sight of him. Maybe it’s a supersoldier thing, you don’t know...but he’s massive. Your mouth fills with saliva at the thought of going down on him even if you know you won’t ever be able to take him fully.
“Bra off, please,” he begs, voice deep and laden with lust.
Arching your back, you slip a hand behind you and unclasp the bra and next moment you can toss it aside.
He leans down to kiss your breasts, lavishing the nipples with little licks and bites too that send shivers through your body. Hiss hands drift down to your hips, pulling you up onto his lap as you cling onto him, legs wrapping around his waist.
His cock nudges between your folds. Hot and smooth. Moving you, he ensures that it glides back and forth, sometimes teasing at your entrance and sometimes nudging at your clit.
“May I?” he asks, raspy.
“Please, gods, yes.”
It stretches as he slides in. A delicious sting that has you arching your back and begging for more when he halts to let you adjust. You don’t want to wait. You want him. Now. Forever.
Not once slipping out, he lays you down and slowly ruts into you, little by little despite your babbling begging.
“So tight,” he grunts.
“So big,” you manage to retort.
Eventually you’re full and your walls clamp tightly around his length, making him gasp with you even if he starts to focus on a steady rhythm in and out, continuously splitting you on his cock and creating the most obscene sounds with your bodies.
And somehow he still has the wherewithal to kiss you, slowly and teasingly, nibbling at your bottom lip and swallowing up every sound you utter.
“Feels so good, doll,” he groans against your mouth, “not gonna last long.”
You can’t answer. As he spoke, he slipped a hand between your bodies, honing in on your clit. All that you are is the surging pleasure that he makes you feel. And then he changes his angle, hitting deeper and with the magic of his thumb you unravel.
- Bucky’s PoV -
She cums with a silent scream, clamping on to his cock with fluttering walls and Bucky can’t help it: he sees white, burning delight propelling his body to keep rocking into her even if his brain has short circuited and all he wants is to be close to her.
It takes a while for them both to come down. Forehead to forehead, breathing in each others’ gasps for air.
He loves her.
He can’t say it yet, but one day he will.
---
She’s already fallen asleep, snuggled up in his arms and wearing nothing at all except a thing layer of sweat and their shared scents. In the dark he can’t see it, but Bucky likes to imagine that she’s smiling in her sleep. He knows he will.

Hi shawty *lipbite*, could you write some f!reader scenario abt boys planning a suprise for mothers day with their kids. With Tsukishima, Sakusa, Kita, Suga and Atsumu? Thanks *big smooch*
— planning a surprise with their kids for mother’s day

characters: (dad!) tsukishima kei, sakusa kiyoomi, kita shinsuke, sugawara koushi, miya atsumu (x f!reader)
genre: fluff
wc: 1300+
<*lipbites back* *wink* you’re hawt ;) thanks for requesting!!>

TSUKISHIMA’s legs were twisted uncomfortably as he sat on one of the colourful children’s chairs at his son’s small craft table.
“what are you making?” he asks, turning to face the child.
“i wanna make a card!!” his son exclaims, leaning over the table to tug a large package of construction paper from under the pile of coloured markers- successfully pushing them off the table.
tsukishima chuckles before bending over to fix the mess on the floor, “do you need my help?”
“you have to make one too!” his son frowns, shoving the pack of construction paper under his nose.
“ok, ok, we’ll make two cards, then”
for the next hour, the room is silent- save for the soft shuffling sound of markers on paper.
“do you think mommy will like it?” the small child asks, gazing at his dad with hopeful eyes.
“of course she will,” tsukishima replies quickly, giving his son a pat on the head before lowering his voice, “now we have to be quiet, so we can surprise her.”
“happy mother’s day!!!” you walk into the room to see your son holding out a big card in front of him.
a smile stretches across your face, “awww baby, thank you so much! it looks so good!”
you bend down to give the small child a hug before glancing at your husband. he looks away, cheeks tinted pink, as he hands you his own card, “looks like i have a gift for you too.”
you snort, scanning it quickly before you quirk an eyebrow at him jokingly, “i think your son’s looks much better.”

it’s the week before mother’s day and SAKUSA did not want to face the rush of people at the mall, so sitting in front of the computer screen, he holds his daughter on his lap as he browses through the catalogue of gifts.
“what should we get mommy?” he asks, tilting his head to look at his daughter.
“this one!” she exclaims as she bounces excitedly on his lap, pointing towards a pink tiara.
sakusa frowns, “that’s something you want, we need to get something that mommy wants.”
“why won’t mommy want this?”
sakusa’s eyes widen in panic at he watches his daughter’s eyes fill with tears. “we can get that for you, but you need to pick out something else for mommy,” he says quickly, patting her curls reassuringly.
she nods, beaming happily, and sakusa sighs. he was never good at saying no to his daughter.
“what about this one?” he asks, pointing towards a necklace.
“no, it’s ugly.”
his eyebrows knit and he pouts slightly at his daughter’s harsh rejection- so she inherited his bluntness.
sakusa’s eyes dart up from the computer when he hears your footsteps approaching. he turns to his daughter and explains quickly, “princess, remember- this is a surprise, so we can’t tell mommy anything.”
you knock on the door before walking into the room they were both in, “what are you two up to?”
shaking your head slightly, you chuckle as you watch the both of them look away, refusing to meet your eyes.
the surprise is safe for now (hopefully), but sakusa would have to make sure to get his daughter’s approval on a gift another day.

KITA was prepared for mother’s day- after all, he’s had the date circled on his calendar for a while.
he had gotten out of bed extra early- carefully, as not to wake you- to make sure the entire house was clean, and when the kids woke up as well, they also started preparing right away.
his daughter had volunteered to go out into the fields in the backyard to gather flowers, and his son is inside- helping him prepare breakfast.
“daddy! i found so many pretty ones!” his daughter runs into the living room, clutching a basket filled with different coloured wild flowers- eyes twinkling with pride.
kita bends down to look at the flowers, and he smiles, “they look beautiful, i’m sure mommy will like them very much.”
“dad! i need help.”
his son’s voice from the kitchen interrupts him and kita rushes over. “here, i got it,” he assures. “why don’t you help me set up the tray?”
and the small boy nods enthusiastically before running out of the kitchen.
kita has everything under control so that when you wake up, you are greeted with your son- who is carefully holding up a tray with your breakfast, and your daughter- who is clutching a large bouquet of flowers.
you rub the sleep out of your eyes and beam brightly, “this is perfect, thank you so much!”
seeing you smile, kita couldn’t be any happier.
he walks over to the bed and places a soft kiss on your forehead before nuzzling your hair affectionately, “thank you for being the best mom in the world.”

SUGAWARA had woken up early on the morning of mother’s day to bring his daughter to the flower shop to find a gift.
and right now, he can only throw the florist an apologetic look as he chases after his daughter who was running excitedly down the aisles.
“sweetheart, wait for me,” he calls out, catching up to the small girl and grasping her hands tightly with a sigh of relief.
“it’s so pretty!” the child marvels, eyes twinkling with amazement.
sugawara chuckles at his daughter’s enthusiasm before crouching down to face her, “we have to choose some flowers for mommy.”
his daughter nods her head dramatically, “for mother’s day!”
“that’s right, for mother’s day,” he smiles, returning her nod with an exaggerated one of his own. “which one do you want to get?”
the small girl swivels her head to look at the flowers surrounding her. “this one!” she exclaims, pointing at a large bouquet of bright pink flowers.
on the car ride home, his daughter sits in the back, hugging the bouquet tightly.
you had just walked out of your bedroom when you heard the front door open, followed by the sound of your daughter’s excited chatter.
“happy mother’s day!!!” your daughter screams, running towards you with a large bouquet of pink flowers.
“sweetie, this looks beautiful!! thank you so much!!” you exclaim happily as you pick up your daughter- who was still holding the flowers- peppering her face with kisses.
you feel a hand snaking over your shoulders and you turn your head to see your husband. sugawara grins before pressing his lips onto yours, murmuring a soft, “happy mother’s day.”

ATSUMU’s son had told him he wanted to surprise mommy with pancakes for mother’s day, and he is determined to make that happen.
“you look like uncle osamu!” the small boy giggles when he sees atsumu in one of your aprons.
atsumu freezes before turning to his son with an offended expression, placing his hands over his heart. “how could ya insult yer daddy like that,” he exclaims dramatically.
narrowing his eyes, he saunters towards the child and tackles him with tickles- smirking when his son begs him to stop.
“ok, now let me focus.”
“i wanna help!” his son yells, jumping up excitedly.
atsumu purses his lips, thinking of something to give the small boy to do. “ok, hold this, and move yer arm in circles,” he says, handing his son the bowl of pancake batter and a large spoon.
atsumu is sweating by the stove- trying his best to make each pancake look perfect- that he had forgotten all about his son.
turning around, atsumu’s eyes widen when he sees the pancake batter splattered all over the counter and dripping onto the floor.
he gulps, before plastering a smile on his face, “good job, buddy.”
his son smiles brightly, “can i cook pancakes now?”
atsumu gives him a sheepish smile, “let me handle that, alright?”
“we did it,” atsumu sighs proudly, collapsing on the dining room chair as he admires the plate of pancakes on the table.
the small boy jumps up and down in excitement, “let’s go get mommy!”
atsumu suddenly remembers the mess in the kitchen- the pancake batter on the floor and the collection of dirty bowls on the counter.
“u-uh, how about we surprise her with breakfast in bed instead.”

bakugou - coffee shop
it was a long, long day of patrol for bakugou.
he had so much on his plate that day from staying late the night before to finish some reports and then having to wake up early for his daily patrol—not to mention all of the inconveniences of catching and apprehending some wannabe villains.
thankfully, he was able to get off work by the time the had begun to set. golden hues decorating the evening sky as bakugou walked back towards his apartment.
his feet were sore and ached from being on his toes all day. all bakugou wanted to do was to relax in the comfort and silence of his home.
taking a seat on a short concrete block wall, bakugou pulls the mask up over his eyes to push his bangs back, allowing the subtle breeze to cool him down as he took a small breather from his exhaustion.
he didn't have the energy to do anything.
"dynamight?" a small voice calls out before bakugou turns his head in their direction. you stood a few feet away from him timidly, but a smile on your face as you gently approached the unapproachable male.
"sorry, i'm not doing any autographs or pictures right now," he mumbled out exhaustedly, but to his surprise, you shook your head. "no, i'm not here for that," you say before taking a step back to gesture towards the cafe behind you, "i was wondering if you would like to come in and i can quickly get you something to eat and drink?"
bakugou glanced over at the empty cafe before glancing back at you and back at the cafe.
"it was a shock to see you outside the cafe and you look really exhausted. it's the least i can do for you," you continue, "you don't have to worry about fans, i'm about to close the cafe right now, so no one should be coming,"
bakugou knew that he shouldn't, but he couldn't help himself when his feet ached with every step and the tiredness was beginning to consume his body.
"fine, just this once," he answered, pushing himself up and off the concrete before following you, who beamed with happiness.
as you walked in, you held the door open for the pro hero before you stepped back out to grab the menu board before flipping the sign from 'open' to 'close', letting the door shut behind you.
"would you like some coffee? or do you prefer tea?" you question as you walk behind the counter, preparing a few things for him. bakugou sat down at one of the empty tables, glancing around at the peaceful and aesthetic atmosphere.
"tea," he states, "i'm not a big coffee person," you hum in response, "i'll get you one of our refreshing tea drinks then. i think you'll like it."
it wasn't long before you came back out with a thirst-quenching drink and a nice hearty little sandwich with it.
"i added a sandwich for you filled with healthy and light ingredients so it'll give you the energy to finish your day. i hope the drink is to your liking as well," you explain, listing out the different ingredients, "i'll be here cleaning up while you finish. take your time."
bakugou was very thankful for the sandwich if he was honest—he was starving, having skipped his lunch earlier. taking a bite of the sandwich, he noted the different textures and flavors that mixed well together. ontop of that, the drink was great by itself and even better with the sandwich.
his eyes drifted off towards you, who bobbed your head gently to the quiet background music of the cafe, moving in every which way to finish closing up your shop.
after quickly finishing off his small meal, he brought the dishes back to you and you happily accepted them, declining to accept any payment, "it's on me! you enjoying the meal is more than enough!"
"also, why not try stopping by during one of your early shifts for some coffee? relax and refuel before your long day as a hero?," you suggest with those bright eyes of yours.
bakugou couldn't help the slight lift of the corner of his lips, "i might just have to."

hawks - after a mission
hawks had just gotten done with a rather stressful rescue due to the many kids on the site he had to protect. thankfully he had all of his feathers and was able to use them to protect the kids while his sidekicks were busy securing the villain.
"are you kids okay?" hawks questioned as he was able to usher them into a safe corner away from the action. "i'm okay mr.hawks!"
hawks let out a small smile before patting the young child on the head. "where is miss (name)?"
hawks opened his mouth just as a soothing yet worried voice cut through the sirens and the commotion. turning around, hawks laid his eyes on you and his heart skipped a beat.
stepping aside from the kids, you ran over towards the children before kneeling down on their level to give them all hugs, checking them over for any injuries, "oh, i'm so glad you are all safe! i was so worried! are you okay? are you hurt anywhere?"
one of the little girls shook their head before pointing up at hawks, "i'm okay! mr.hawks saved us!"
turning around, you quickly stood up before giving him a very polite bow, "thank you so much, hawks! i am forever grateful!"
"no need to be so formal! i'm just doing my job," he responds with a smile, only for panic to set in when he sees the blood streaming down from your head. "miss! your head is bleeding, we need to get you checked out!"
"oh, i think this is from when I blocked the kids earlier from falling debris. i feel fine," you respond, which makes hawks worry even more.
hawks quickly calls for his sidekicks to stay with the children while he goes to get you checked up on. thankfully, there was a medical team nearby and hawks waited with you as they patched you up.
"again, thank you so much for saving my kids back there. I don't know what i would do if they had gotten hurt. you're an amazing hero." you compliment, sitting on the back of an ambulance as the medic carefully wraps your head to stop the bleeding.
"i could say the same about you," hawks starts, "you didn't hesitate to risk your life for those kids—you're the real hero. "
a shy smile forms on your lips as you look away from the very handsome man in front of you, "well, i love my kids. i'd do anything for them."
hawks couldn't help but admire you.
"i'm (name) by the way," you say, holding a hand out towards the hero. hawks smiles at you, reaching over to give your hand a firm shake.
"hawks. nice to meet you, (name)."
dabi - flower shop
dabi usually hated the rain, but today, he was thankful for it.
he had just escaped from some pro heroes and hid in a small alleyway in a quiet part of town away from any heroes. the cool droplets of water felt refreshing on his burning skin after overusing his quirk. though, he wasn't sure the injuries he sustained would heal quickly with the rain.
hearing a small bell ring, dabi quickly pressed himself up against the wall as he listened for any movement.
"ah it's raining!" a voice called out before their alarmed footsteps ran about, causing the puddles to splash every which way. suddenly, a pail of flowers fell into his view before you quickly bent down to pick them back up.
sensing someone staring, you turned and your eyes were met with his bright blue ones, causing you to squeak and fall back, "y-you scared me!" you cried before picking yourself back up and frowning at your dirtied outfit.
"hey, are you okay?" you asked as you carefully walked toward him. "you're bleeding! let me go get a medical kit," you explained before running around the corner to your flower shop.
but dabi knew better.
you were going to call the heroes on him, you only used that as an excuse to get away. standing up with all of the power he could muster, dabi limped his way down the street as far as he could—away from you.
"hey! where are you going!" you cried as dabi heard more splashes behind him, your small pitter-patters against the puddles.
turning around, dabi's eyes widened as he watched you chase after him in the rain, your hair getting wet with the rain and sticking to your face as you caught up with the male.
"let's hide from the rain over here," you say as you gently help dabi away from the rain before settling him down on a bench. "don't you know who i am?" dabi asked frustratedly, but you just continued to clean and dress his wounds. "sorry, i don't, but i can care less about that right now," you respond to dabi's surprise.
dabi watched as you carefully cleaned him up, watching the raindrops slide down your soft skin.
"that should do it," you say, standing back with a smile. dabi follows your movements, "thanks doll, but i gotta run," he responds, throwing his hood over his head.
"oh, well, stay safe then," you respond as the two of you enter back into the rain. he gives you a playful smile before vanishing from your view.
walking back to your flower shop to finish bringing your flowers back, you thought that would be the last of him. but to your surprise a few days later, tied onto the handle of your shop was a blue rose with a note attached,
'thanks for the other day, doll.

hmmm can vampires get sick? maybe sick vampire chris thinking Jake is gonna pull out or file down his fangs? or just thinking Jake’s gonna hurt him?
CW: Sick whumpee, vampire whumpee, blood drinking, vague implications of past sadistic/creepy whumper, dehumanization, vague tooth/mouth whump (nothing direct, but aftermath)
Sort of a sequel to this piece, part of the Vampire Chris AU
"What hurts?" He keeps his voice low, and carefully doesn't hesitate before he lays a hand over the vampire's forehead. Of course it feels lukewarm, room temperature, but he still goes through the motions of feeling for a fever. It's muscle-memory, instinct, and he keeps forgetting Chris is dead.
He has been dead for a long time, if his occasional comments on what sounds like Prohibition are true.
"Bones," Chris whimpers, twisting where he lays in Jake's bed. There's a bright flush in his cheeks from the blood he'd drained from the two men who broke into the house. Those odd eyes glitter, overbright. "My... m'bones hurt, Jake."
His mouth opens, pulling air in over his tongue and down his throat in soft pants, and Jake is reminded that vampires don't sweat. Not the same way, anyway, although with enough blood they can, in thin sheens of pink-tinged liquid that are even more alarming than their tears.
His fangs are visible this way, razor-sharp canines that come down further than the rest of his teeth, a brighter white than all the others from being pulled and regrowing so many times.
Jake swallows against his nervousness, brushing hair away from the vampire's forehead. His slit pupils are dilated, taking up too much of the iris, and he tells himself that Chris is as scared as he is of the instincts that drive him, barely understands them.
Vampires aren't animals - but when they don't understand themselves, they act like it sometimes.
"Do you think maybe those guys were on something? Like, a drug maybe?" He pets through Chris's hair, fingercombing his hair, and watches Chris's eyes flutter closed.
It's hard not to feel more than a little reassured not having to look at them any longer. Which makes him feel guilty, considering this not-a-kid kid just beat up people for hurting him.
Killed them, his brain whispers. Killed them like he could kill you.
"May, maybe," Chris mumbles, and pants again.
His gums seem oddly dark, where normally they're pale, and Jake frowns. He wishes now he knew more about vampire physiology, that he'd paid more attention in class when they took the safety courses on how to avoid them.
There's not exactly a class on caring for one - not unless you can afford to purchase them outright.
"Well, when you were-... uh, before you found us... did you ever feel like this?"
Chris's eyes blink slowly back open and he nods. "Sometimes. My, my, my, my-... someone would, um, take something before, before the party, and I'd..." He groans and shudders. Jake can see the pain move through his body as he trembles nearly violently. "I'd feel like, like, like this after... for hours..."
"Okay. So... probably you just have to let this get worked out of your system, right? Or... is there a medicine?"
"No... just... just drink more." Chris looks up at him, eyes so wide and sad and scared and hurting, and grabs onto his wrist with one hand. Those cool fingers are never not a little startling, colder than the air around them, than the rest of his body.
Vampires have poor circulation, Jake knows, even when they're filled up on a fresh meal. He's seen Chris heal his own wounds before with his tongue, had him explain that they don't heal on their own with time if they're on hands or feet.
"Chris-"
"You, you, you, you-... can, um, you can take my teeth after. You can. I'll hold still. I'll, I'll be good." Chris's plea is barely a whisper.
His nails, which must have been a little too long when he was killed and turned, dig painfully into Jake's wrist in his desperation.
"I'll be so, so, so so so so good, Jake. So good for you, and then, you can, you you you can take my teeth-... Sir always liked it, it makes me me me cry, we we cry blood, Sir liked to take photos of it-"
"Sssshhhh. Hush, Chris." Jake's mind races. There are others in the house, but-... he can't ask them to give up blood to Chris. They've already taken over cleaning the blood up from the hardwood floor. Nat's already dealt with talking to the cops and the EMTs and the coroner before the bodies were taken away. They already handled hiding Chris in a false-backed closet while Jake was interviewed by police officers who looked interested and excited,, not disturbed.
It's not every day you see a vampire attack, after all.
Mostly they're under control, kept on leashes and muzzled like dangerous dogs, the property of rich celebrities looking for novelty in a world where they already have everything. The few ferals are killed pretty fast.
Or so everyone says.
Jake is starting to wonder if there are more vampires out there than he knows about.
The cops had even insisted on checking the attic, as if Chris was a bat they might find hanging upside down. That had been ridiculous, but it's not like Jake could say he knew better without being asked how he knew so much about them in the first place.
Oh, because we keep one like a stray fucking puppy. That wouldn't go over well.
He feels a little woozy from the adrenaline crash, and still aches from the bruised ribs where he was kicked around. His mouth aches from the duct tape they'd put over it, and he'd got a hell of a rash starting around his wrists. He's so exhausted he might collapse.
But... Chris really did show up right on time, and maybe saved his life.
Chris pulls Jake's wrist to his face, nuzzles into the inside of it against the pale blue veins that show through the thin skin. Jake shudders at the feeling, swallowing back a low-level disgust.
He wonders how old the teenager really is - he wonders that all the time.
"You c-can have my teeth, after," Chris whispers, lips moving against Jake's skin. "You can keep them. Sir used to, to, to keep them in a box and show m-me. Just, please, please help me feel better, Jake, please... It won't hurt."
Jake closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "If it'll help... fine. But I'm not taking your teeth. They're yours."
"Thank you," Chris breathes out. "That's, that's, that's okay. I can still fix it for you. Thank you, Jake." His fangs slip back into Jake's skin as easily as a heated knife through warm butter.
The venom hits his bloodstream before the pain hits his nerves, and Jake feels himself slump over, head falling onto Chris's shoulder as all his limbs go dead.
It almost feels good, as his ribs stop aching, and the bruises stop throbbing on his skin. He can see why rich people love it as a party drug. You could drift in this place of perfect no-pain for a long, long time.
He feels only the wet movement of Chris's tongue, the shift of his fangs, the soft pressure of the other teeth pushing down. Chris purrs softly, drinking his blood like a kitten lapping milk.
It goes on and on, and for one terrifying second Jake thinks he's not going to stop until he's dead.
"Ch-... Chris-"
Those fangs slip suddenly out of his skin, the wet cool tongue licks rough over his wounds - closing them instantly.
The venom slowly fades, the aches and pains settling back into his body. Jake groans, feeling weak and exhausted.
Chris has to push him up off his shoulder, with unnatural strength moving him to lay on his side on the bed. Jake can barely keep his eyes open.
Chris, leaning over him, could rip his throat out and he couldn't even raise a hand to try and defend himself right now. Jake sees the body of the first dead robber behind his eyelids, the expression of horror written in eternal rictus in his expression, the blood down his shirt and puddled beneath him on the floor. The other man, fighting until he stopped, slumping until Chris had drained him to death.
"I feel better," Chris whispers, kneading at Jake's shirt briefly. "I, I, I feel so much better. Go to, um, go to sleep, Jake. I'll fix it so you're safe."
Jake can't even begin to understand what that means before he's already slid into something more like unconsciousness than actual sleep. The world around him simply goes black, and the last thing he feels is Chris pulling a blanket up to his chin.
The last thing he hears is those soft padding footsteps leaving the room.
When he wakes, he finds two fangs, pristine white with bloodied roots, sitting in a washcloth next to where his head lays on the pillow. he finds a pair of small pliers on the bathroom sink, with droplets of red around them.
The sun is shining outside the window, a bird singing loud enough to drive a drillbit into his head, and Chris is curled up asleep in the dark at the back of a closet, mouth slightly open.
Jake stares down at the empty spots where his fangs should be, and wonders if he's grateful, or horrified.

So, someone requested a fic where Blue Team rescues a Child!Reader from a war zone, but unfortunately Tumblr ate the ask. If you’re the one who requested it, please enjoy!
EDIT: found a screenshot! @simp-for-fictional-men-only, hope you like this!

Blue Team x Child!Reader (Halo)
It’s been a long “day”, even by Spartan standards.
Blue Team had been trying to repel Covenant forces on an Outer Colonies planet for over a week… but it hadn’t been enough. Command had called an evacuation, and after destroying a base to help the efforts, Blue Team had been ordered to help with final evacuation calls in the nearest town.
On the Pelican ride to town, there was a brief moment where they thought it was a waste of resources to send Spartans for an evacuation op, especially because the other Spartan teams were still doing the best they could to strike back at the Covenant; not necessarily to stop them anymore, just to hold them back long enough for the civilians to escape and maybe a little revenge. The events of the week, coupled with the guilt of their brothers and sisters still risking their lives, weighed on them heavily.
But at the end of the day, they’re glad they did: they found a group in the Rec center, a dozen people in the boroughs, twenty in an apartment complex — the Marines wouldn’t have been able to lift most of the wreckage that blocked them from escaping.
By the time they’d gotten to the outskirts of town, Blue Team had been left alone to sweep through the dead town. Chief considered just going to meet up with the Marines — surely, they could match the pace of the overloaded Troop Transports — and this area was just dilapidated factories and shady looking establishments that had long since been stampeded.
But a need to fulfil his task to completion stayed his hand… and thank god it did.
At first, it was just soft sniffles that sounded from the inside of the rundown factory. Chief and Kelly, who’d partnered up to search this side of the district, thought it was one of the many Jackals that had been posted in the previous sector wandering, or a Grunt that had been left behind after the Jackals had entertained themselves (in which case, they should probably put the thing out of its misery), so they go inside.
Chief goes first, moving carefully through the debris so as to not dislodge the wreckage, or disturb the corpses of the few soldiers and more civilians. He retrieves their dog tags, securing them in one of the compartments of the MJOLNIR, and Kelly follows, stepping where he does.
Slowly, the sound becomes louder and louder, wheezing and snotty sobbing. Definitely an injured Grunt, he thinks. It’s coming from under a slab of concrete propped up against a wall. Kelly flanks to the right, while Chief goes to the left. He signals that he’ll lift it on the count of three, and grips the edge of the slab. When the slab gets tossed aside, Kelly raises her shotgun, pointing directly at the small figure.
You shriek and bury your head in your knees, pulled up to your chest. You couldn’t believe that after all the gross, awful things you’d had to sit through, holed up in this corner, you were just going to die.
But when nothing happens for a solid five seconds, you chance a peek over your knees and gasp. S-117 and S-087 are emblazoned across the chests of the armored giants… Spartans.
Kelly and Chief exchange confused gazes, having no idea how to deal with children. The last ones they’d had any interaction with was the Castoffs on Netherop, but they were more feral gremlins than they had been children.
(Kelly and Fred still aren’t entirely sure that the whole incident wasn’t a heat-induced hallucination.)
John really doesn’t want to go through another episode like it, but on the other hand, it would be easier if you were pelting rocks at them.
Kelly, being the more personable of the two, kneels to your height (or as close as a Spartan could get) and softly calls. “You don’t have to be scared. We’re here to help.”
You knew that — they were Spartans! The greatest heroes Humanity ever possessed! You were just shocked that you were getting rescued by them.
“Y-you’re Spartans.” You whisper dumbly, but you couldn’t help it! How are you supposed to be cool when you grew up with Master Chief’s action figure on your nightstand. “Like Master Chief.”
You can’t see it, but John can sense Kelly’s smirk as she looks over at him and points. “Well, that’s the man himself.”
* Oh no. By the way your wet, moved eyes stare up at him, it seems you’re a fan.
OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!! You hope your pterodactyl screeching wasn’t external.
“Whoa.” This couldn’t be real. You’d passed out from exhaustion, and were dreaming all of this. That could be the only possibility!
John knows that this is the part where he says something witty or inspiring… but he really doesn’t know what to say, so he just awkwardly clears his throat. “Are you hurt?”
You shake your head violently, a burning need to not disappoint your childhood hero, and clamber up to your feet… only to wince and lean against the wall, something sticky on your leg.
Now that you’re standing, he can see the dried blood around your ankle. “Hold still!” All the softness is gone from Kelly’s tone as she works on bandaging you up, but you don’t mind, appreciating how careful she’s being.
Co-ordinating with Linda, who informs him that there are patrols scouting the areas — probably only to get any survivors, and not to catch them, but they should still move — and Fred, who tells him that the convoy is flying off-planet via Pelicans in half an hour, John makes some quick calculations.
With the pace you’d set, hobbling alongside Kelly, whimpering every time you put your weight on your left foot, it would take them at least an hour. Too long.
“Whoa…” The sound comes unbidden from Fred when Kelly emerges, with you clutching at her hip, all bloody and dirty. A pang of sympathy strikes as he looks around and realizes all that you must have seen. He was well aware that normal children weren’t nearly as resilient as he and his siblings had been.
“….” He stays silent as you arrive in front of him, staring up at him with slight apprehension, heart racing as he tries to think of something to say — and for some reason, he lands on an awkward, weirdly Southern-sounding. “Hey champ!”
John and Kelly both shoot him weird looks, and he wants to dig a hole and die, when they hear it.
A small giggle falls from your lips, tiny hands covering your mouth as you try not to laugh. Fred sighs in relief, but his anxiety returns when Kelly’s joking voice comes over the comms saying “Well, I guess we know who’s taking care of them.”
Linda drops out of nowhere, and nearly scares you to death as you shriek and bump into John, holding his leg tightly. You don’t really notice how he freezes, confused again.
“…sorry.” She doesn’t sound sorry, you think with a pout and drop from Chief’s leg, careful of your own busted ankle.
“That’s Linda, that’s Fred and I’m Kelly. You can just call him Chief. Whats your name?”
“Y-Y/N.”
“Alright. We won’t be able to make it if you’re walking, so you need to get on one of our backs.” Chief tells you, straight to business. “Which one of us do you feel comfortable with?”
He’s really hoping you pick Kelly or Fred. It wouldn’t exactly be a burden, you’re much tinier than the full grown people he’s had to carry out of a war zone, and you’re handling it much better as well, even though you’re barely ten years old.
“Um…” You look shyly up at Fred. “If you don’t really mind…”
*Aw. That’s… actually kind of sweet. Fred beckons you over, and hoists you up between his shoulders, giving you the rundown on what to do if people start shooting, and to hold on tight when he tells you to.
*You’re much more considerate than the freaked out VIPs he’s had to extract. But he still feels you twitch every time the wind causes something to clatter, so he decides to strike up conversation.
“So how did you wind up there?” It’s not until afterwards that he realizes that, unlike soldiers, civilians aren’t comfortable discussing stuff like that. But you answer that it was your dad’s factory, explaining that it was Bring Your Kid To Work Day.
The Spartans, specifically Kelly, asked you questions about it, having never heard of it themselves. After all, military settings rarely allowed such breaches of protocol.
You only trailed off as you got to the part where he told you to hide, and Fred lets it be.
When you finally get to the convoy, a nurse hurriedly tries to pull you away from the Spartans to help out, apologizing for not doing it sooner when Fred tells her it’s fine and that you can stay. After all, Kelly had fixed you up well, and you seemed terrified at the prospect of being left alone.
All that was left to do was fly up to the ship in outer orbit, with the rest of the survivors. Since there were such few Pelicans, everyone had been crammed into them, military and civilians alike. You’d simply wandered onto the one they’d been on, sandwiched between Chief and Fred.
Chief watches you picking at your shorts, and suddenly remembers the chocolate bar Sgt. Johnson keeps giving him - “you’re not yourself when you’re hungry, Chief” He’d snicker and then leave, Chief just standing there, not understanding the reference - but hey, chocolate was chocolate.
“Here. You did well.” Your eyes go wide, and for a second he thinks you’re going to refuse, but then you snatch it out of his hand and snarf it down. This is how it must feel to watch him eat.
“You’re going to like it up there.” Fred chimes in when your gaze starts getting distant again. “Space is really cool.”
In a twist of fate, you find one of your best friends when you arrive on the ship. Their parents promise to take care of you, and thank the Spartans.
When they start directing the survivors to their quarters, you hug every Spartan, even Linda… or their legs, since you couldn’t reach anything else. (Thankfully, you telegraph it pretty well, so they don’t accidentally smack you or something.)
John just stiffens and then nods, Fred pats you on the head awkwardly and shuffles away (he was very shocked by the affection), Kelly laughs and claps you on the shoulder, and Linda just hums and pets you on the head like a dog, walking away afterwards.
You go on to be a Marine yourself, finding yourself on the Halo campaign, where Chief and Cortana save you once more. You’re surprised he still remembers you.
You leave a bar of the same brand he gave you at his shrine, giving a heartfelt eulogy and catching up momentarily with the other members of Blue Team before you all leave again.
You almost faint when he shows up at Requiem, though. Don’t feel bad, as Lasky fanboys behind Chief for the whole campaign.
Palmer corrals you and Lasky into a break room to make fun of your behavior after it’s all over.

Visit
Pairing: Dream / Clay x gn!reader
Summary: [Dream SMP!AU] You and Dream have been together for months now, but no one knows it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the two of you live leagues apart.
Warnings: some cursing (a.k.a. Tommy exists)
Word Count: 3.1k
A/N: requested by an anon who wanted a fun long-distance reveal! this story takes place during an unspecified time, but i imagine it occurs prior to schlatt’s presidency. anyways, i hope you all enjoy <3

You gazed at the bustling town in front of you in awe, your wide eyes darting this way and that as you took in everything you possibly could. You’d never known that Clay’s home was so... colourful. So bright.
You should really come visit more often.
Now, you thought to yourself, just where is he? He has to be somewhere around here.
Your fingers squeezed a little tighter around the handle of your basket as you swung it back and forth, a small smile gracing your lips as you tread onward. The soles of your feet ached a bit, especially after walking for so many hours, but you didn’t mind too much. It had been a while since you last saw each other, and you couldn’t wait to hear his laugh again.
Just then, a voice spoke up to your left.
“Who the fuck is that?”
Your smile faltered, and you slowed your steps a half-measure as another voice whispered back.
“No clue.”
You swallowed, a lump slowly starting to form in your throat. You focused your gaze on the path ahead of you, trudging forward as you rushed past the muffled words that slowly began to form around you.
“Do you know them?”
“Nope.”
“Are they from out of town?”
“Must be. I don’t recognize them at all.”
Something hot and wet wrapped around your lungs, an uneasy feeling settling into the pit of your stomach. They’re... they’re talking about me, aren’t they? You sucked in a shuddering breath, ignoring the stinging at the back of your eyes. It’s okay, [Y/N]. You just have to find Clay, and then everything’s be just fi—
“[Y/N]?”
You froze, your steps coming to a screeching halt. Is that...?
You turned on your heel, your eyes landing on a familiar face standing just a few feet behind you. Dirty blonde hair and enchanting green eyes stared back at you, and a wide grin stretched across your lips. In a flash, you were charging at him, an overjoyed giggle escaping you.
“Clay!”
You barely caught a glimpse of his outstretched arms before you were tumbling into them, your fingers curling around his back as his hands met your waist. Peals of laughter flew from your lips as he spun the two of you around once, twice, thrice. Your heart was practically singing in your ears as he set you back down again, your feet landing flat on the ground as you gazed up at his fond smile.
“Hey,” he said gently, his emerald eyes scanning your face, “what are you doing here?”
You pulled back the cover of your basket, pulling out a swath of viridian green fabric with a flourish, grinning. “Ta-da!” you cried, holding it out toward him. “I finished fixing your winter cloak!”
His eyes grew wide as he stared at the cloth in your hands, his gaze glimmering with astonishment. “You did? Oh my god!” With a gentle grasp, he pulled the cloak from your grasp, admiring your handiwork with wonder in his eyes as he looked over the stitching. He looked up, a smile tugging at his lips.
“It looks as good as new,” he said. “You can hardly even tell I ripped it.” Tucking the cloak into the crook of his arm, he dipped his head to press his lips to your forehead. “You’re amazing, [Y/N].”
You offered him a bashful grin, biting the inside of your warming cheek. “It’s nothing, really.”
Reaching over, he slipped his hand into yours. His thumb instinctively moved to brush over your knuckles just how you liked it, and you nearly melted on the spot. He really had you wrapped around his finger, didn’t he? Not that you were complaining or anything.
“Seriously though,” he added, pursing his lips, “you didn’t need to come all this way just to deliver my cloak to me.” His gaze grew soft. “It must have taken you so long.”
You chewed on your bottom lip as you dug your heel into the dirt. “I-I, um,” you began shakily, picking at a stray wicker thread in your basket, “I wanted to surprise you.” You took a deep breath, raising your chin to look at him dead on. “You always come visit me, but I thought this time, I should be the one coming to you!”
He stared at you, his lips parted in awe as he took in your words. When he didn’t say anything after a few seconds, your eyes darted to the ground, as you mumbled a quiet, “Or, um, something like that.”
There was a beat of silence. Then came a soft murmur.
“God, you’re so damn cute.”
You whipped your head up, your cheeks blazing with heat as you took in his cocky smile. “S-Stop that,” you sputtered, resisting the urge to bury yourself into the ground. “You’re always so cheesy.”
He dipped his head to press his forehead against yours, his eyes never leaving yours. “Yeah,” he rasped, his breath tickling your face, “but only for you.”
Your heart did a flip in your chest at the intensity of his gaze. As flustered as he made you, you missed this. You missed him. Was it even possible to miss someone so much?
Suddenly, someone cleared their throat. “Uh, Dream?”
You stiffened once more, taking a step back to peer over Clay’s shoulder, only to feel your breath hitch in your throat. Clay immediately shifted at the first sign of distress on your face, his gaze growing serious. He plastered a polite smile to his face as he turned, opening his mouth.
“Hi ther—woah.” He blinked at the small crowd standing behind him. “Okay, uh. There’s a lot of you here.” Carefully, he stepped to the side, facing the crowd head-on while allowing you the chance to take a step behind him. He offered them a crooked grin, his grip on your hand tightening ever so slightly. “What’s up?”
In front of him, a tall man tilted his head toward you, his chestnut hair flopping over one eye as he raised an eyebrow at you. “Um, aren’t you going to introduce us to your guest?”
Clay’s eyes darted to yours, and you sent him a subtle nod. They were his friends, and as nervous as you were, they deserved to know about you. Turning back to face the crowd, he held a hand out toward you. “Everyone, meet [Y/N], my significant other.” He gestured to the crowd. “[Y/N], meet, uh, everyone else.”
A man clad in blue raised his eyebrows, an unimpressed look crossing his features. “Wow,” he whistled, pushing up the white glasses perched on his nose, “way to basically just call us unimportant.”
Clay rolled his eyes, but you still managed to catch a glimpse of a smile flicker across his face as he relented. “Okay, okay, I’ll be more specific.” He pointed his hand toward the man dressed in blue and the white-clad man leaning against him. “Meet George and Sapnap—my best friends.”
Sapnap glowered at him, his dark brows curving inward. “Yeah, your best friends who didn’t know about your secret relationship!”
Clay winced, something hurt flitting through his expression. “I’m sorry, oka—”
George raised a hand. “We’re kidding, we’re kidding.” He reached over, clapping his hand over Clay’s shoulder. “We’re glad you have someone you like, seriously.”
Sapnap leaned forward, his frown having been replaced by a teasing grin and his dark eyes swimming with mischief. “You totally owe us for keeping us in the dark, though.”
George nodded, pulling his hand away. “Oh yeah, totally.”
Clay grimaced, then sighed. “Great. Anyways,” he said, “this is Ranboo.” He gestured to the tall boy standing next to you, his face split down the middle with skin that looked as pale as the moon on one half and the other being as dark as night. Atop his head sat a small, golden crown that glimmered in the sunlight, and his crimson and green eyes blinked at you as he gave you a small wave, his lips curling into a smile.
“He’s half-enderman,” Clay explained at your curious expression, “but he doesn’t really have any of the cool enderman powers.”
Ranboo’s mouth drooped into a frown as he lowered his hand with a disappointed sigh. “Yeah, I only got the lame ones. Like, I can’t teleport, and I’m not crazy strong, either.”
Another voice suddenly popped up. “He’s fucking useless in the rain, that’s what he is.” You turned you head, your eyes landing on a blond boy sporting a triumphant grin. “If you get even a single drop of water on him, he hisses like a cat.”
“I do not!”
The blond boy cackled, and you couldn’t stop his contagious laugh from letting a smile form on your face. “Don’t deny it, Ranboo! You totally do, and it’s fucking hilarious!”
Beside you, Clay sighed, gesturing to the grinning boy with a look of affectionate disdain. “This one here is Tommy.” His lips twitched. “He’s a demon child.”
Tommy’s smile widened. “Thanks, Big D—wait.” He paused, then scowled. “What the fuck did you just sa—”
Clay didn’t let him finish. He simply shot you a satisfied look before declaring, “Case in point!”
Before Tommy could begin shouting once more, he turned to the shorter brunet standing next to him. “This is Tubbo.” Something in his tone softened as he spoke. “He’s Tommy’s best friend, and he liked bees. He’s not nearly as...” He paused, looking for the right word. “...aggressive as Tommy, and he actually has some genuinely good intentions.”
The tall brunet from earlier suddenly spoke up. “Except for when he’s Big Law. Or Big Crime.”
Clay blinked, then nodded with a slight grin. “Oh. Yeah. Those are two exceptions.”
You raised your eyebrows at him, opening your mouth. “Should I ask...?”
He sent you a lopsided smile. “Probably not.” You stifled a smile as he turned back to the tall brunet, who offered you a cheerful grin. “This here is Wilbur. We fought a war once because he started a drug cartel—don’t mind that—and he’s pretty good at playing guitar.” He pretended not to see your look of alarm as he pointed to the man standing next to him, a pair of fox ears sitting atop his head. “Oh, and this is his son, Fundy.”
You eyed the ears on Fundy’s head, the orange fur ruffling in the soft breeze. Are those... real? They look real. You opened your mouth, but Fundy spoke first.
“Yes,” he said, his eye catching yours, “they are real. And yes, we look nothing alike. My mother was a salmon.” A boulder of shock and confusion steamrolled through your system, but he merely waved his hand. “Moving on.”
You gaped at him, your mind still reeling at the words ‘mother’ and ‘salmon’. “What—?”
“Moving on!” Clay repeated, raising his voice a little. He turned you around slightly, and found yourself standing face to face with a girl with dark hair, the front two strands bleached blonde. “This is Niki. She’s normal. And also very nice.”
You blinked up at Clay, your eyebrows furrowing. “‘Normal’?” you parroted, already feeling yourself fill with disbelief. Fundy’s mother was a salmon, and now he was trying to convince you that any of his friends were normal? You didn’t buy it.
He nodded, his lips curling into a small grin at your skeptical look. “No, like, actually normal. I swear.”
Niki waved at you, her eyes curving into tiny crescent moons. “It’s nice to meet you, [Y/N]! Is this your first time here?”
You nearly jumped by how sweet her voice was, but nodded eagerly, hope sparking in your chest. “Y-Yeah!”
Her eyes glimmered with something gentle and kind. “You should come stop by my bakery sometime!” She sent you a wink, but it came across as more cheerful than sly. “I’ll treat you to some cake.”
You could practically feel your mouth water at the mere thought. Niki was more than just normal—she was wonderful. You had a feeling you were going to be very, very good friends with Niki. “I would love to!”
While Niki clapped her hands in successful delight, Clay took a step forward. “Well, that’s basically everyone. Some people are out of town today,” he explained, “but you can meet them some other time.” His look was fond as he smiled at you. “In the meantime, I can show you around the actual town.”
You clutched your basket a little tighter as you bobbed your head. You’d been dying to see the rest of Clay’s home, and you couldn’t wait to explore. “Okay!”
Suddenly, an confused voice cut in.
“Hold on a second.” Fundy whirled, his ears flicking atop his head as he looked back at his friends. “Are we just going to gloss over the fact that Dream is actually dating someone?!”
Clay furrowed his eyebrows, looking appalled. “Why do you sound so surprised?”
Tommy raised a finger. “Well, I mean,” he began, “aside from the obvious, which is that you having anyone who genuinely fucking likes you is completely unexpected—”
Clay deadpanned. “Ouch.”
“—but we also had no idea, okay?” Tommy crossed his arms over his chest, his eyes narrowing. “We kind of have a right to be surprised.”
You raised your eyebrows, bobbing your head slightly. “He does have a point.”
Clay sent you an exasperated look, his eyes pleading. “Do not back him up.”
You held up your hands in front of you, trying to bite back your smile. “I’m just saying!”
It was then that George spoke up. “Wait, how long have you guys even been together for?”
Without missing a beat, you and Clay both spoke at the same time. “Eleven months.” The moment the words left your mouth, you looked at each other, your eyes wide before melting into something softer. Your one month anniversary was coming up soon, and you guys weren’t the type to forget.
In front of you, Wilbur gaped. “Eleven months?” he repeated, sounding like a broken record player. “Eleven months?! How have you two been together for that long without us noticing?”
Clay blinked, then shrugged. “I wasn’t being super secretive about it or anything. No one ever asked, so I never said anything.”
George practically collapsed onto the ground, sinking to his knees as he tugged at his hair, his glasses sliding off his face and onto the ground. “Just how? How? I don’t get it.”
Softly, you spoke up. “I just happen to live a couple thousand blocks away, so it’s kind of far from here,” you explained. “That’s why you guys have never met me, but Clay and I still always make time to see each other.”
Sapnap tilted his head at you, his dark eyes scanning your face as the wheels in his head whirred. “Like, when do you even hang out?” He pursed his lips. “I feel like Dream’s always just kind of... here.”
Clay’s brows furrowed together. “Let me think of a good example, um...” His paused for a moment, then his eyes lit up. “Okay, so, you know those days I just say that I’m going out and don’t really elaborate?”
Sapnap cocked his head. “Um, yeah?”
Clay smiled. “That’s when I go visit [Y/N].”
There was a beat of silence, then Fundy spoke up. “Hold on a second—you travel more than hundreds of blocks just to... see [Y/N]?”
He blinked, then nodded nonchalantly. “Well, yeah. I love them.”
Warmth skittered across your cheeks as you turned to face him, lightly smacking his chest as your heart skipped a beat. “C-Clay!”
He laughed. “What?” he said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “It’s true.”
Across from you, Tommy visibly gagged, holding a hand over his mouth. “God, this is so fucking gross. Super sweet, but also super gross.”
Tubbo nodded beside him, a hand tucked under his chin. “It’s like... like...” His eyebrows knit together. “What’s a good analogy?”
Ranboo quipped, “It’s almost like I can feel myself getting a cavity.”
A wide smile split across Tommy’s face, and he straightened, turning to grin at his friends. “Ooh, that’s good. Nice.”
Tubbo suddenly gasped, waving his arm frantically. “Oh, um!” He paused for a split second, then shouted at full volume, “It’s like I can feel myself becoming diabetic!”
Tommy made a face. “Okay, uh—less good.”
Tubbo frowned, then opened his mouth again when Sapnap suddenly took a step forward, slamming his hand over Tubbo’s mouth. “Alright,” he said, offering you an apologetic grin, “I think that’s enough fun for one day.”
Clay nearly melted to the ground in relief. “Thanks, Sapnap. Now if you could all scram, that would be great, because [Y/N] and I would love to spend some quality time together.”
George’s lips twitched. “Heh. Disgusting.”
“Wha—” Clay blanched, and you felt your face grow warm. “Oh my god, I didn’t mean like that.”
Fundy rolled his eyes, his mouth curling into a smirk. “Sure, you didn’t.” Before you could even think to retort, Fundy clapped his hands, pushing the crowd away from the two of you. “Well, you heard the man! Everybody get a move on! Let the lovebirds be!”
Niki turned to wave once more at you, calling after you as the distance between you grew, “Bye, [Y/N]! It was nice meeting you!”
Your face lit up at the sound of her voice as you eagerly waved back. “You too, Niki!”
As soon as they disappeared from your line of sight, you felt Clay relax beside you, his shoulders drooping as he ran a hand through his hair with an exasperated look. “Sorry about them. They’re kind of—” He gestured vaguely. “—you know.”
You hummed, your lips quirked into a genuine smile. “I liked them. They’re chaotic, but in a fun way.” You swallowed the lump in your throat as you cast him a wary look. “Do you think they liked me?”
His eyes flashed with pride as he leaned over to press a kiss to your cheek. “Oh, they definitely did.” He sent you a crooked smile. “Tommy might think we’re gross, but he means well.”
You giggled at the image of Tommy gagging at the two of you as Clay slipped his hand into yours one more. “Enough about Tommy though,” he hummed, squeezing your palm, “let me show you around, yeah?”
You nodded with a bright grin, swinging your arms as the two of continued down the oak wood path further into the city. Around you, chatter continued to fill the air, but it didn’t make you anxious anymore. Clay’s friends may be strange, but who wasn’t, really?
As you took in the sight of the town around you and Clay’s soothing voice washed over you, you squeezed his hand a little tighter.
You were right—you really should come visit more often.

Best Friend For Hire Reprise, 382
“Slow down!” exclaimed Iris. “Turn left just up ahead.”
I nodded and complied. She knew where her boss lived better than any of us, having never visited this suburb befored. I probably would have missed the break in the endless fence had she not warned me, especially when I was trying to guess the cost of having a large amount of land next to a park in a pricey suburb. To my surprise, the gate opened for us immediately.
“He doesn’t care much for security, does he?” I teased, looking around to see if there was some sort of guard who would have opened the gate for us.
“Mila watches everything, so there’s no need. There are sensors and cameras all over the yard that let her know if anything is disturbed.” explained Iris matter-of-factly.
I nodded, but my eyes were locked on our destination in the distance, barely visible through all of the rain. I had considerably underestimated the size of this place. I very much doubted that I could even afford to maintain the yard for very many years and could only guess that the property tax had to be immense.
As my sons grew excited about the bushes, I looked over and stared for several seconds. Every single bush along the long driveway had been carefully sculpted into characters that I recognized from video games my kids enjoyed. I could only imagine the amount of time and number of people involved in such artwork, leading me to believe James spent even more on his yard annually than I originally had guessed. Even the fountain—an immense, two-story affair that was very elaborately sculpted—was immaculate, showing no signs of wear or neglect. James certainly knew how to make an impression.
When we stepped inside, passing past two sets of double doors that opened for us, James was descending down one of the staircases which curved up to a balcony on the second floor. “James! Thank you for having us. This is quite a place you’ve got here. Sorry if we brought the storm.” I told him, gesturing to the weather outside.
“There’s plenty to see.” he politely agreed. “Thank you for accepting the invitation. I thought you might be interested in seeing a little more about my company than most, since you seemed curious during the game. Mick was supposed to stop by a while ago but apparently didn’t get the time.”
“This place is awesome!” exclaimed Matt.
“Sorry, James.” muttered Mick.
“No need to apologize. We’ll just review with your family today what I wanted to tell you before.” replied James, smiling at us.
I suddenly found myself floating as a soft breeze blew at me from inside the mansion. Looking to my sides, I saw that my family, save for my daughter, were also floating.
Before I could do more than exclaim in surprise, James spoke up, telling us, “Magic is real, and your family can use it.”
I stared at them, my mind trying to figure out how he was doing this. Was this some elaborate prank using a new technology? “Wh-What…” was all I managed to say before we were gently lowered to the ground.
“You wanted to know what I was feeding my employees. I train them physically, mentally, and in magical arts. We didn’t use spells at the baseball game, but we have numerous advantages that are completely unfair.” explained James. “For example, I can physically lift your family’s van, though using spells is easier to ensure I don’t compromise the frame.”
I swore, feeling like I had been had, before my better judgement kicked in. My family was currently at this boy’s mercy.
James’ smile broadened as he said, “If you don’t mind coming out back, I’ll ask the wonderful gardener to demonstrate something people tend to grasp more easily.” Not hearing any argument from us, he motioned for us to follow him and started telling us “Mirabella and Mike can’t create the electrical discharges like the rest of you. She has a different heritage, and Mike took after his mother.”
“How could you possibly know that?” asked Mike in surprise.
“My secretary ran a background check on Iris prior to her being hired, and she’s so thorough that I feel like she knows everything. You wouldn’t believe how long she takes to brief me on things.” explained James as he glanced back at my son. “My concern with Mick is that he and Iris tended to play games with their ability, which caught enough notice for my secretary to file it in the report. There are some out there who prey on those with abilities such as yours, so being a little more cautious tends to be wise.”
That sounded far too believable. I probably should have chewed those two out more often, but I had never believed anyone would have noticed their antics. “You claim you can lift cars, and you can obviously lift us. What else can you do, James?” I asked, wanting a firmer handle on whom I was dealing with.
“So many things, Dad. James is like a wizard combined with an overly strong fighter from some fantasy novel.” insisted Iris from behind me.
I glanced back at her, surprised at how serious she looked.
“I’ve also learned to make a great cup of tea. My wife can be picky.” insisted James.
“What’s that smell..?” questioned Mike longingly.
Now that he mentioned it, I didn’t recognize the smell either, though I was certain it was food. My mouth was already watering.
“We’re almost to the kitchen, and Marco’s making you quite the treat. I’m sure he won’t mind us passing through. Just be prepared for a few samples.” encouraged James.
The kitchen was as large as was fitting a house this size, and even there the fanciful engravings didn’t yield. Every cabinet was beautifully carved, as were the very large table and chairs.
Marco, the chef, was extraordinarily eager for us to sample “a few things” before we moved onward, despite assuring us that dinner would be ready soon. Only when James pointed out there was more for us to see before dinner did Marco give way, giving us permission to pass through his kitchen into the garden beyond.
The rain didn’t reach us as we followed James outside, hitting some invisible barrier and sliding away.
“I don’t suppose you worry about getting struck by lightning.” I commented as I watched the sky.
“Worried, no, but I didn’t find that to be pleasant either.” he told me sincerely.
I stared at him, my eyes searching for any sign that he had ever been struck, but I found nothing, save for how confident he seemed.
“If your magic were stronger, you’d actually be able to guide a lightning bolt around you. Iris has practiced enough that she could knock an assailant down with just the shock.” he commented, making me glance back at my daughter.
“You can?” questioned Mick excitedly.
She nodded, grinned, and said, “Yep, though I could take you in a fight without one.”
“All trained up now, are you?” questioned Mark, my eldest son.
Iris laughed, shaking her head. “You wouldn’t believe the standards here.”
“I take it that James is the strongest, being the boss.” suggested Mike.
James shook his head and said, “Not even close.” Then he pointed to a fortress in the distance and asked “Do you see the keep over there?”
I nodded along with a couple of my sons.
“The strongest best friend created that with a stray thought.” claimed James.
“What!? No way!” exclaimed Mike.
Nodding, James said, “She showed up in my office to tell me that she ‘oopsed’ a second after. She’s been training recently to avoid that type of mistake. I imagine she’ll be capable of creating a large city in a day on a whim within a few years. I’d probably spend at least a week on a small town, and that’s if I collected the resources ahead of time.”
I found the idea mind-boggling. James seemed humble as he claimed that he could create a small town in a week.
“You’d take at least a month, man-sla-... er… boss?” announced Emma, turning the statement into a question at the end. “You get too distracted. I could handle a village in an hour!” She was soaked, but grinning.
Before my eyes, the water soaking her clothes drifted away to join the rain outside.
“Emma, I’m sure you remember Iris’ father, Grayson. This is her mother, Mirabella. From oldest to youngest, her brothers are Mark, Mick, Mike, and Matt. Everyone, this is my gardener, Emma.”
“Shouldn’t I be your favorite gardener?” she asked teasingly.
“Sure.” he conceded.
“Hear that? I’m his favorite!” she exclaimed proudly.
“Do you create villages with a stray thought?” questioned Mike.
“Nah. I do this.” she replied, watching us all. After a couple seconds, wooden buildings rose out of the ground between the garden and the keep.
“Mine would have functional electricity, plumbing, and the other luxuries people expect these days.” argued James with a smile.
She stuck her tongue out at him. Then she said, “My plumbing would work if I created a water tower. Plants can be very good at guiding water. As for electricity, I’ve been talking with Jarod about ways to generate a current with plants. We have plans and stuff!”
“You mean he had a crazy idea and chatted your ear off.” suggested James.
“I thought the idea was cool and agreed to try eventually!” she insisted.
“The idea was actually Maxine’s. She has some experience with bioengineering from when she considered creating a cyborg army.” corrected Mila, who had discretely joined us without me noticing.
“You can create cyborgs!?’ questioned Matt excitedly.
“There has been some tech created here which could be used toward that end, but we’re not experimenting on people.” explained James.
“I didn’t know you were in the tech industry.” commented my wife.
James smiled at her and diplomatically told her “My company dabbles in many things to help prepare our best friends for a very large variety of jobs.”
Grinning, Emma said, “He means to say ‘Yes. Yes, we are.’ Mua ha ha ha ha!” She drummed her fingers together while obviously attempting to look like some comic book villain.
James sighed and said, “Emma, mind getting rid of your starter village and showing the Storms how you help the kitchen?”
“Fiiiine,” she begrudgingly told him, “but I might use some buildings to compliment the topiary when I change things up again.”
“Sounds fun.” he agreed.
From there, she started demonstrating how she could make the plants grow, revert to seeds, or provide as much food as she wanted. She could also force plants to grow beyond their normal proportions and control them as easily as she controlled her own limbs, which led her into demonstrating how she had produced the bats her team had used for our baseball game. Before she seemed remotely ready to quit demonstrating her abilities, Mila announced that food was ready.
Instead of eating at the long table in the kitchen, we were taken to a large dining hall with an even more elaborate table. There were already carts of food waiting nearby, and Mila urged us to help ourselves, since no one here would hesitate when they arrived.
As we ate, we were entertained with more demonstrations of magic from those who had joined us. James’ wife, Alma, created elaborate displays of fire and ice. Ai and Mai created a sort of play with tiny figures made of water acting out their parts just above the table. Jemal fetched more food for the particularly hungry using nothing but his magic, causing whatever was requested to float through the air. James himself demonstrated illusions, making us see whatever he wanted while assuring us the magic the others had used was real. Whether because I had felt myself being lifted earlier or because he had no reason to lie, I believed him. Iris’ boss was the most interesting, and perhaps the most dangerous, man I had ever met.

drunk baby monster
ateez 9th member.
when jiyu turns twenty and chaos ensues during her first time trying alcohol.
inspired by a lovely anon’s ask hehe ✨✨ and this all happened on jiyu’s birthday this year (march 15th)!! i had midterms around the time so i totally lost track of jiyu’s birthday 🤧🤧
⚠️: mentions of alcohol

Jiyu warily eyed the soju bottle in front of her before her eyes flicked to the men sitting around her on the couch.
“I know I asked this at least ten times already within the last half an hour, but are you sure this is a good idea?”
Wooyoung whined, shimmying closer to her before giving her his best puppy eyes. “You have us in case something goes wrong!”
“What do you mean if something goes wrong?!” she asked, not feeling at all reassured for this first experience.
She trusted them, she really did, but did she trust herself or her unknown alcohol tolerance level? No, she really didn’t.
“If you don’t want to try, don’t feel pressured, Ji,” Seonghwa reassured, patting her head.
“No!” she denied, slightly startling herself with how loud she was, “It’s not that I don’t want to try it, as embarrassing as it sounds, I’ve always wanted to try drinking soju the day I’m of legal age,” she sheepishly explained what used to be a childish wish of her’s.
“But I’m just embarrassed about what could happen when and if I get drunk...”
There were endless possibilities of what drunk her could potentially do—she could accidentally fire off embarrassing Universe private messages to ATINY, or just drunkenly interact with ATINY in general, or she could babble about the most random things in the world while crying or laughing, and the list goes on.
And she just knew Wooyoung, San, and Yeosang were ready with their phones to record the momentous occasion and not let her live it down for the next few years.
“I’m pretty sure we’ve all done some embarrassing things when we were drunk at least once in our lives,” Hongjoong reassured with a chuckle. Despite turning twenty, Jiyu was still such a little baby to them.
“It can’t be like Yeosang hyung where he started texting the group chat about how much he loves us before texting out the ponytail song,” Jongho reminded, snickering at the horrified and betrayed look said man gave him.
“I thought we all mutually agreed to forget that ever happened!” he hissed.
“That actually did make me feel better though,” Jiyu admitted, ignoring Yeosang’s pleas about wiping that memory from her head.
Sighing, she reached towards the bottle before slowly filling the shot glass. “All right, if I do anything embarrassing, please do me a huge favor and just forget it happened. Otherwise it’s moving out of the country for me.”
San snorted at how dramatic she was. Surely she wouldn’t do anything too embarrassing; it was Jiyu they were talking about—the one member that sometimes acted like the oldest despite being the youngest, and the one that often times held the few braincells they all shared.
But he had never been so wrong.
They found out she had a decent tolerance level, but that was where she went wrong. At some point along the way, she overestimated herself and had gotten just a tad bit too tipsy.
“Okay, we’re taking these away,” Hongjoong stepped in when she started giggling and hiccuping in the middle of her sentences. Taking the two soju bottles and shot glass, he and the other six were shocked when she started to whine.
They’ve never heard that sound come out of her mouth in all of the time they’ve known her. It was like a child whining when their mother took away their favorite toy.
“Someone please tell me they got that on recording,” Wooyoung stifled his laughter as he watched their maknae be reduced to a giggly mess at the hands of too much alcohol.
“I got it!” San proudly chirped, having been recording since her fourth shot. “She’s so going to kill us for this, though...”
“Did I ever...mention that...Seonghwa gives the best hugs?” she slurred, falling onto said man and hugging onto him.
Seonghwa had no idea how to handle a drunk Jiyu—he just returned her embrace while the others hooted, laughed, or just awed at how different she had become.
“So she’s a cute drunk,” Yunho concluded, chuckling when she started playing with and petting his hair. “You never see her like this on a daily basis.”
“It’s endearing, yet freaking hilarious,” Yeosang snorted, swatting her hand away when she started to reach for her phone. He had been in charge of keeping her away from the device since she didn’t want to accidentally drunk call or text anyone, especially ATINY.
Suddenly, Hongjoong gasped before shooting up from his spot on the couch. “We still have schedules and practice for Kingdom tomorrow! Why did we let her drink tonight of all nights?!” he whisper–shouted.
And that’s where they all knew they had royally screwed up. Schedules for the next day had completely left their minds when celebrating their maknae’s birthday.
“It’s okay! Maybe if she drinks enough water, she’ll just...flush it out of her system,” Yunho offered before standing up and running into the kitchen to fetch a glass of water.
Meanwhile, Jiyu started to develop little hiccups, something the boys found extremely adorable despite their earlier panicking. The red flush across her cheeks also added to the cuteness.
“And have I ever told you guys,” she started, slightly tripping over her words due to her hazy mind, “I love you this much!” Dragging out the word ‘this’ she proceeded to draw out a huge circle with her arms before falling back onto the couch in a fit of giggles.
“I shouldn’t be thinking this otherwise Jiyu will actually slap me into next week, but we should get her to drink on our days off a little more,” Wooyoung snorted as he tried to help her sit upright before steadying her.
“I got water!” Yunho announced, coming back out and carefully handing her the glass. “Alright, please hold with both hands so you don’t spill, baby monster.”
The two older ones couldn’t help but grow soft at how adorable she was, holding the glass cup with both hands like a little kid before bringing it up to her lips and drinking up the water.
“It’s hard to believe she turned twenty,” Seonghwa commented, adoring eyes watching the way she placed the cup back onto the table before looking around for someone to hug.
“Yunyun!” she called out to the group’s giant teddy bear, holding her arms out and looking up at him expectantly. Yunho had no complaints—he enjoyed hugs from her, as well as giving her hugs.
“We need to get her to bed soon. Hopefully she can sleep off the hangover, too,” Jongho noted, seeing as it was way past the time they should be sleeping during promotion weeks. They had to wake up again in a few hours, and yet here they were, one tipsy while the others were watching over her.
“One of us should sleep in the spare bed in her room tonight in case she needs something,” San suggested. Yunho volunteered considering how tight she was holding onto him.
“Yay! Sleepover with Yun!” she cheered before letting out a small hiccup. Yunho giggled and patted the girl’s head.
“Alright, take these water bottles with you and let’s tuck this baby into bed,” Hongjoong handed Yunho three water bottles, and they all brought her to her room to coax her to sleep.
“Please don’t have a hangover tomorrow, baby monster,” Wooyoung teased, poking her forehead before bringing the comforter up to her chin. “Otherwise you’ll really be a baby monster tomorrow...”
Snuggling into the cool comforter, Jiyu pulled it up farther so it covered her mouth. “Who’s...baby monster?” she wobbly asked.
“You are,” Yeosang answered, discreetly plugging the charger into her phone and leaving it on the nightstand. “A twenty-year-old baby monster.”
Leaving her phone on the nightstand would prove to be the worst mistake Yeosang could’ve made that night when Wooyoung’s horrified shriek woke everyone up a few hours later.
“Guys we’re so screwed! She called Sunwoo, she’s actually going to kill us for not stopping her!”

Strawberry Madeleine
Tsurugi used to use Mikuni’s old uniform as pajamas.
He’s aware of how pathetic it is. How it sounds. How it probably would have been more subtle to shout that he missed him through a megaphone, for all of Tokyo to hear.
Of course, it doesn’t smell like his old roommate anymore. It hasn’t for a long time, especially not after having been washed and given to Mahiru to run around in for a whole week, over a year ago now. Especially not after it needed to be bleached, and deep cleaned, because of all the blood and dirt and dust that had been practically ground into the white fibers.
Frankly, it’s a miracle that old thing is still around.
He never expected to get it back, but he did, and he’s only a little ashamed to admit that he held it the same way someone would hold a cherished stuffed toy, inhaling the smell of fabric softener chosen with Kuro’s delicate skin in mind. He had called himself creepy, and Yumikage… Had flicked his forehead. Called him an idiot.
The way he had explained it, it made such perfect sense.
Mikuni... Was a familiar pain, like a bruise that never quite faded and you press your fingers to it just to remind yourself you’ve been hurt.
Yumikage, Junichiro, Freya, Mahiru, and Kuro are a comfort he never thought he deserved, and that old uniform, one of the only few possessions of his that had survived, the new softness of it and the new smell, are proof that whether he deserves them or not… They are his.
Anyone would cherish that, wouldn’t they?
***
One day his phone lights up in the evening twilight.
“I made too much. That offer to join us for dinner is still valid ☀︎”
Attached is a picture of a simmering pot of curry that makes his mouth water so much he nearly drools all down his front. There’s something familiar about it he can’t quite place, but it’s easily ignored and Tsurugi wipes his mouth on the back of his hand, thumbs flying eagerly over the screen.
“I’ll be there in ten minutes ☆” he replies, then, after adjusting his course accordingly, practically skips off down the sidewalk.
Two minutes from his destination, his phone buzzes again.
“I left the door unlocked for you. Come right in!”
Tsurugi... Tries really hard not to cry in the middle of the street as words half remembered while his soul was tangled with Mahiru’s filter back to him.
If the window is shut, we'll just go through the door.
***
Sometimes Tsurugi goes to Mahiru’s house to play.
It’s a childish way to put it, like they’re both in elementary school and he’s showing up at the front door to ask his friend’s uncle if Mahiru is home, but it’s also the only proper way to describe it, because he is playing.
He’s free now, or about as free as he can be with those debts looming over his head, and he wants to play. Kuro, meanwhile, wants to show him lots of different games, so if he has a day off, and the both of them are available… To the Shirota apartment he goes.
It’s always a mess.
Not the apartment, no, never the apartment. He doesn’t think even C3, with its white walls and white floors and white sheets and everything, everything, white, was even half so clean as that little apartment where three people lived.
What’s always a mess is himself.
This time, though… It’s Mahiru.
***
Tsurugi knows he’s a messy person. Tsurugi knows he’s not very good at cleaning up, though he often tries. It’s overwhelming though, sometimes, looking at it all, all the trash and garbage that had accumulated, all the things he didn’t need anymore, didn’t want, and maybe part of the problem was that his mind hardly ever stayed “adult” long enough to make any real headway.
It’s not like anyone went into his room to begin with, anyway, so why bother?
Mahiru, though, is different from him. Mahiru likes to clean up as he goes, so he supposes it shouldn’t be a shock that he gets frustrated with him and with Kuro, who have their little area in front of the TV set up with snacks, and drinks, and piles and piles of games to try out, and a third controller for Mahiru because sometimes instead of watching, Mahiru will join them, tempted by their cajoling and whining and Tsurugi’s bright, high pitched yelps.
This is not one of those times.
This is a time when Mahiru got frustrated and stormed off, and… Well, Tsurugi isn’t quite sure what to do.
A single look at Kuro shows he doesn’t either, wide eyes watching the hall his Eve disappeared down and slowly the umaibo he had been munching on disappears into his mouth.
“Should we… Clean up?” Tsurugi asks, hesitant. Their characters on screen continue to idle, the timer ticking down. Kuro hits pause. Stands, stretches, cracks his back and Tsurugi can’t help but wince because that can’t be healthy…
“...Yeah,” the Servamp finally says, and bends down with a muffled groan to start gathering chip bags and drink containers. “It’ll give him time to cool down.”
“Does this happen often?” Tsurugi stands, too, and casts his eyes about for something to pick up, but there really wasn’t much. Kuro’s already got it handled.
It makes him feel just a little useless.
He was a grown up, wasn’t he? … Wasn’t he?
***
Giving Mahiru space to calm down seems to have been the right choice, because when they find him, curled up on his bed and looking just the slightest bit ashamed of his outburst, he looks ready to apologize at any moment.
But Tsurugi doesn’t want an apology.
He wants Mahiru to come play with them.
So he speaks first, apologizes, sincerely, and promises that he and Kuro will clean up after themselves properly, but when they are done.
“You don’t need to keep everything nice and neat all the time, y’know. Part of being a grown up is knowing when it’s time to play and when it’s time to put your toys up.”
Mahiru makes a face at him, buries his chin deeper into his knees. “Tsurugi-san, no offense, but I don’t wanna hear that from you of all people.”
“Ouch, haha.” He sits, plopping down gracelessly next to the still pouting teen, making him bounce and emit a startled noise, and Kuro shuffles forward, slides down on Mahiru’s other side. “...You’re right, though. I never really learned how to clean up and put my things away all nice and neat like you do. No one ever taught me.”
Mahiru shifts, glances at him curiously. Having seen Tsurugi’s room at C3, he definitely believes it.
“...I guess,” he starts, slow and picking his words carefully. Kuro makes an encouraging noise beside him. “Because I never really felt like the apartment was ‘mine,’ I always ended up cleaning after every little activity. Because having it be messy... Made it feel more lived in than it was.”
“... Mm. That’s exactly it. The illusion of company...” A self deprecating little chuckle. “Guess we both learned to handle that feeling in different ways. If Kuro-chan and I make a mess, we... Might need your help to clean it up properly. But... Can you trust us to clean up when we’re done?”
“... I can try.”
“Good!”
Kuro finally speaks up, because this was a conversation for them, not him. But the moment has passed, and it feels safe to say something a little stupid, a little funny. “We’re serious about the needing your help on how it’s done, thing.”
“Ugh, I believe you. Tsurugi-san, one time I put this guy in charge of loading up the washing machine and you know what happened?”
“Wait, Mahi, no—“
“Ohh, do tell~!”
“Bubbles. Bubbles, everywhere. My downstairs neighbor had no idea where all the suds dripping onto her balcony were coming from!”
“Pfffhahaha! Kuro-chan, seriously?! There are directions on the box!”
“And I followed them. Our washer is small, though, so it was too much...”
Kamiya Tsurugi was an adult.
Shirota Mahiru was a kid.
But, if they could teach each other the things they had missed out on…
Perhaps it was all for that reason, huh...
Tsurugi wonders if Mahiru will be able to make good on that promise for a cake this year.
***
The end of August comes again, and, just like he had hoped, Mahiru bakes him a cake. Covered in glistening, sweet strawberries, with loads of white, sweet cream, it’s almost too much, especially when paired with how Freya and Iduna had come by, are each sitting in Yumikage’s living room while Freya’s subclass play some noisy game with Takuto.
Some part of him didn’t think Mahiru would really do it. But not only did he keep his promise, he’s pressing a wrapped gift into his hand, a small one that rattles when it moves, this grin on his face as Tsurugi turns it over in his hands, this perfectly wrapped gift with yellow paper and citrus themed washi tape keeping it together. Mahiru’s Servamp lingers back, a noisemaker hanging unenthusiastically from between his lips. And yet, despite his carefully practiced indifference, there’s no denying that Kuro is also eager, just as eager as his Eve.
“Go on. Open it.”
So he does. It’s... A cellphone charm. “...Cinnamoroll...?”
Mahiru beams at him and shows off his own phone. Tsurugi snorts, a smile cracking at the sight of the Pompompurin character charm that dangles merrily from it.
“How’d you know my favorite~?”
“I asked around~”
“Thank you, Mahiru-kun,” Tsurugi answers him, feeling his throat close up, just the slightest bit. His eyes sting, and he holds that little charm close to his chest. “I love it.”
It's such a small gift. A tiny one, one perfectly suited to a high schooler’s budget, but it means so much.
Because it didn't have to be given.
Mahiru takes his wrist and leads him back to the core of the party, where they are all immediately mobbed by Tsurugi’s own homegrown family.
Vampires, magicians, humans. Adults, children, immortals.
People his own age. People who aren’t.
Tsurugi is loved.
He’s happy he was born.

Mind the Gap: Three
Shang-Chi laid you carefully on the bed and leaned over to kiss you on the forehead, smiling a little when you fuss at him sleepily. “It’s okay,” he murmured, brushing a lock of hair out of your face tenderly, “I’m only going down stairs.”
When you sit up. Bolt upright suddenly, he reels back. It takes a moment for him to realize that you’re not what’s staring at him. Your eyes are the same unearthly silver they had been. “Let her sleep,” he ordered sharply.
“We,” a voice that is your but… Not yours replies haughtily, “Do not sleep. We are eternal.”
“Not without a body you’re not,” he fired back, frustrated. You just got to sleep. You were just so close to feeling better. Your face doesn’t change, not really. There’s an absence of expression. One that he’d taken as seriousness in that empty field, but now realizes that the Archive probably doesn’t… care enough to make you appear “normal” when speaking. Still, even if the Archive wasn’t sneering at him where he could see it, he could feel it.
“Have care, boy. Our vessel will not belong to you.”
And before he could reply, You fell backwards onto the bed, your head hitting the pillow with a soft thump.
“You’re right about that,” he says quietly, not sure if it can hear him or not. “She doesn’t belong to me. She doesn’t belong to anyone… You might have saved her life once, but now you’re just squatting.” He shakes his head and pulls a blanket over you, carefully tucking you in before turning and heading back downstairs.
__________
Downstairs, he finds party preparations in full swing. There’s food being cooked and more food being ordered from town to be picked up. There’s a small army of people moving tables and arranging lights and torches and building bonfires. It was cozy looking. And impossible for him to tell how many people were coming.
“How is she recovering?”
Shang-Chi turned and faced his father, smiling ruefully, “Not as fast as I’d like. But at least she’s asleep.”
He nodded and gave his son a sympathetic look. “They’re all worried,” he cautioned.
“We should start a club. Y/N can make us jackets.” When his father gave him a look, Shang-Chi smiled a little. “It spoke to me,” he said after a second.
“The Archive? What did It say?”
“It told me that she didn’t belong to me,” he said, restraining an eye roll with effort.
Wenwu frowned, “It challenged you?”
Shang-Chi shook his head, “It wasn’t a challenge. It was a warning. She never even woke up.”
They stood for a long moment and considered the implications of that. But neither one of them had a chance to say more when Katy burst through the screen door with Xialing on her heels. “You have got to see this! There’s fucking werewolves!”
“Werewolves? Kai is a werewolf-”
“No. What? No- I-” Katy is bouncing on the balls of her feet and bolts back out the door.
“A pack,” Xialing said rolling her eyes, more fond than irritated. “Specifically her father’s pack.”
And it’s curiosity more than anything that lures Shang-Chi outside. You never talk about your parents- Not that he can really blame you. He hadn’t talked about his family with you at all. And now? He has the gift of staying in your childhood bedroom. And seeing the things that made you into the woman he loves. Still. Werewolves? He assumes your mother is a witch but- If this going to be a fight? Is it going to upset you?
He walks down the steps to see Kai and who he assumes is your father. You have the same lazy half smile and the same warm eyes that you share with your brother. And for just a second, he wants to turn around and bolt. He’s seen you dismember demons. He’s faced creatures from other dimensions. But somehow? Meeting his Girlfriend’s dad is more terrifying than both those things.
He’s a big man. Tall. Imposing. A solid wall of muscle. A shock of curly dark hair… It was almost like the universe had distilled his every idea of a werewolf into one person. Except for the jaws. And slobber.
“Good Luck,” Xialing snorted quietly.
“Gee thanks,” he said taking a deep breath and stepping forward. He’d been seen, there wasn’t any escape now.
The huge man stepped forward, “I’m Renaud,” he said. His voice a deep rumble, like Thunder. “You, must be Shang-chi.” He took the hand that was offered and shook it, not as roughly as Shang-Chi had expected. And he hadn’t missed that his name had been pronounced correctly. “Thank you, for calling my son… Just because Y/n can handle things on her own doesn’t mean she should.”
“So you found her?”
“Of course,” he said, smiling, “I always know how to find my kids.”
Shang-Chi smiled in spite of himself. He wasn’t sure how long it had been since you’d seen your father. But somethings seemed to be universal. “My father-” he started, But Renaud made an impetuous gesture.
“We’ve met,” he chuckled, taking the hand that Wenwu offered.
“Several times, in fact,” Wenwu said. “And I hope-”
The Werewolf released his hand and rocked back on his heels, “The sins of the father and all that,” he said with another impetuous gesture. “I learned long ago that telling a witch what to do is always a bad idea.”
Shang- Chi looked from one to the other and glanced at Katy and Xialing for help. He had the distinct impression that he was rapidly helping to establish some new international thing. When both the girls shrugged at him at a loss he glanced at Kai who gave him a small nod.
“Dad,” Kai said, “I’d hate to interrupt whatever work meeting is about to happen but… Hospitality Law. You know Grandma and Lea like to et all the stupid formal things out of the way up top.”
Renaud looked at them apologetically and turned to his son, “And then I’d like to see your sister.”
“So far as I know she’s asleep,” Kai said leading him away, the other three wolves that had been standing there watching followed after.
“It’s the middle of the day,” he protested.
“Not for her. She’s still at least a day behind the rest of us.”
Shang-Chi watched them go and let out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. “At least no one at me,” he said, looking back towards the house.
“Werewolves haven’t done that in public for 300 years,” Wenwu snorted.
___________
People arrive steadily. Bringing kids. And food. And drinks. Shang-Chi watches in fascination as all the tables Kai had hefted into place filled with things. And the Coolers he had helped Lea to fill with Ice started keeping drinks cold.
So many faces and names. It’s a whirl and a blur. Still. It doesn’t take long for the kids to warm up and claim him, and Katy as their new playmates. Like all children they’re susceptible to a good story and an infectious laugh. Except for one. There was a little boy. He stayed near an oak tree. A Book over his lap. And he seemed to be watching the goings on, all the flips and little bursts of magical energy with irritation. He didn’t want to play. At least not with them. And while no one bothered him, it was clear that the other kids didn’t want to play with him either.
At least- At least for a while.
When you appeared, a little bleary eyed with your hair in a messy bun and some fresh clothes. His whole face lights up. Shang-Chi hears the shout and watches, grinning as his book goes flying and he launches himself at you, clinging onto your torso like a spider monkey and burying his face in your neck.
And suddenly, the silent boy with the great big book is talking. And talking. And he can’t seem to stop smiling.
“She’s his person,” Lea said smiling a little, handing Shang-Chi a glass of cold lemonade. He looked at her in askance and she smiled a little, “They both understand what it’s like to be the weirdest person in a room full of weirdos,” she explained. “Emmet had no magical ability. And Y/N hears voices and can tear out a Vampire’s heart with her bare hands.”
“Fair enough,” he says nodding, watching you greet the kids with hugs and kisses and declarations that they’re all too tall. “It’s good to know I’m just a novelty.”
Lea grins, “No one can ever take her place with them… It was Kai with the last crop. But Y/N was always his buddy. She’s had him wrapped around her finger since the first time someone put her in his lap.”
“So you’re telling me I should expect a big brother lecture?”
“Maybe. But. It’s more likely that he figures she could take you in a fight and there’s not much point.” The redhead’s eyes sparkle with mischief though. And Shang-Chi chuckles.
“You think so?”
“If she can’t, the Archive can.”
That was a sobering thought. And Shang- Chi took a deep breath. “What- what happened?”
The woman looked at him and for the first time, he considered that she was probably older than her face. Despite the lack of lines her eyes seem… Ancient. “I don’t know if I should tell you. I’ve spent… A long time keeping those details a secret.”
“I just-”
“I know,” she says softly. “You should know. If only… If only so you know she wasn’t always this way. She used to want… She wanted to be in the Olympics. She wanted to be a rockstar… She didn’t want to be this.”
Shang-Chi was quiet. Waiting. He didn’t really know what to say.
“Her mother- When she was born her mother was furious,” Lea said after a long moment. “600 years and so many babies I’ve brought into the world… And the was the only time I’ve ever seen That. She refused to even hold her.”
“Why-”
“Because she was powerful,” Lea said. “I knew- We all knew- the second she took her first breath that she wasn’t just a Witch. And for Clara? That was a betrayal. Clara had spent DECADES trying to amass more power. And here her daughter just had it? Absolutely not. It was unthinkable.”
Shang-Chi winced. “So then-”
“She sold her,” Lea said bitterly. “Put her on the black market and handed her off to the highest bidder.”
“No-”
“What she sold her to though? It was a… a cult. A fringe group. They took children like her and tried to- to change them. And if torture wouldn’t change it, burning. Well. The holy fire would at least make sure they went to heaven.”
He felt himself waver and he leaned against the tree that was at his back. “What the fuck-”
“Indeed,” Lea said nodding. “To make a long story short, It took Kai, Renaud, and her Great Aunt Jet to bring her home. And it cost Jet her life… It was a price she would gladly pay but not everyone feels that Y/N was worth the effort. Including Y/N.”
He looked back towards you, watching as you tossed one of the kids up to Kai who tickled them and tossed them to one of the waiting werewolves who promptly pitched them off the dock and into the lake. But on the edges, he could see the barely masked disapproval. And he knew you. He knew that you knew it was there.
“Lenora has been trying to keep things at bay but… I’d be lying if I said I blamed Y/N for keeping her distance. She loved Jet. We all did. And it’s- it’s hard for her, knowing that if it weren’t for her- She might still be here. She might be able to control the Archive. Instead of being controlled.”
And all he can do is watch you. And hurt. He hurts for who you are now. And for the little girl that you had been. “Thank you,” he said sincerely.
“Shang- Chi,” Lea cautioned, “She says she doesn’t remember but-”
“You don’t know?”
“No. We don’t. And if she’s trying to protect herself-”
“I won’t ask her,” he said, “I don’t think I’d want to remember that either.”

"Predator and Prey" ~ Hawks x reader x Mirko
So again with smut it's hard to do gender neutral language but I tried my best and this was pure self indulgence. I do want to do a second part but it might be a while and either way I had a bit too much fun writing this
How you got into this situation you'll never know. Here you were working your shift at a local bakery down the street and you were getting ready to close when your boss had left to take out the trash, leaving you to lock the register and clean the cases that had previously been filled with baked goods.
You had wiped the tables off and wrapped up a few treats for yourself and your roommate when you heard the door open. You didn’t turn around and continued to clean the counter,
“Hello, I’m sorry but we’re closed right now. You can come back tomorrow if you want to buy something-”
“Yeah, no. You’re going to hand over whatever is in the register and be nice and quiet.” You jerked your head up to see a person wearing a hood and a black mask holding a loaded gun pointed at you. You slowly stopped cleaning and froze,
“Hey, the register is locked, I don’t have the key. My manager-” They cut you off, “Bullshit! I just saw you closing it minutes ago. Now hand it over.” Well, so much for lying. Your manager was probably locking the back door and should be getting back now but it could make matters worse. considering you were quirkless, you decided it’d be better to comply than risk getting shot.
“Okay. Okay. I’ll get the key. Just don’t shoot.
Even if you could defend yourself, it was useless when the person had a gun And it wouldn’t help to purposely get hurt anyways. You went to get the key and clicked a button under the counter, signaling a distress call to the police station and nearby agencies. Hopefully, you could stall long enough for them to get here.
Inserting the key into the lock and hearing the click, slowly opening the register and hearing the criminal yell at you for taking so long. You threw him a glare and put the money on the counter for him to grab, carefully glancing outside and the hallway leading towards the back door.
“So, any chance that I can get you to stop this?”
“What do you have a death wish? What’s with the small talk, bitch?” I mean you didn’t really have many life preservation skills, so that was a maybe. “Honestly, I have no idea, just curious I guess if these are my last moments.”
They raised an eyebrow at you and just shook their head, seemingly not bothering to respond to your last comment. You saw a blur of red and someone shouted ‘Duck!’ It probably should have given you a warning sign that your first thought after you crouched was ‘quack’ but I guess it didn’t matter.
You heard some yells and grunts, objects falling onto the wooden floor. A couple noisy moments passed when it was quiet and you peaked your head up to see what was going on. Seeing a pair of big vermillion wings take up your vision, blinking to see the light turn back on and fully getting up.
“Oh hey, kid. Everything’s all good. You okay?” The winged hero caught your eyes and walked over to you, leaving the intruder to the others behind him. His eyes looking over you for injuries and meeting your eyes, a smile plastered on his face.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Just a bit shaken up.” Looking around the shop to check the damage, “I’m surprised how quickly someone got here. I was expecting to have to stall a bit longer,”
Laughing halfheartedly at your poor excuse for small talk and trying to recover what was left of your mind to come up with a sentence. Hawks stood in front of you in his usual attire, looking very attractive, still occasionally glancing around the room but keeping his gaze on you.
“You know what they say, I’m too fast for my own good. You still look as stunning as you were before, so I say you’re all good. Are you the only one working?”He said winking and smirked seeing your face flush softly.
You shook your head and tried to ignore the flirty comment he made, explaining to him that you were working with your manager and she left to take out the trash.
Noticing her talk to an officer by the front door and worriedly making hand movements. You both continued to chat and make small talk, the blonde hero throwing in small flirts or compliments here and there.
Having no idea why Hawks was flirting with you of all people but you returned it every so often, knowing many others would dream of being in this situation. Well, not the robbery part of it but the after effects. A loud voice interrupted the two of you, and the hero put her arms on his shoulders.
“Hey, I heard there was some commotion over here, so I decided to hop over. Oh-” The bunny hero spotted you and smiled, “Hi cutie. Were you going to keep this one all to yourself, birdy?”
She turned to Hawks and raised an eyebrow, expecting an answer. Her red copper eyes flicking to yours, lifting her arm and stepping over to you. An arm wrapping itself around your waist and pulling you into her. Woah that escalated quickly.
“Well, I was here first, Miruko and I think you interrupted something. Me and this beautiful worker here were having such a pleasant conversation until you rudely barged in. Don’t you think, baby bird?”
Well. This had turned into a dangerous territory and you weren't sure if you liked where this was going. You went to respond, when Hawks cupped your face and brushed his thumbs over your bottom lip, preventing you from saying anything. He smirked and glanced up to Miruko, still having an arm wrapped around your waist, as if daring her to continue.
Your mind was racing, you could see some people still in the shop and would rather have no one see the two pros having a competition over who could make you blush harder. As much as you loved what was happening to you, you still had to focus on something and was dragged back to earth when the white-haired woman tightened her grip.
Tilting her face towards hers and pushing his hand away, sweetly staring at you. She leaned in and pecked your cheek, her soft lips meeting your skin for just a moment. A part of you wanted it to be more but you were too flustered to respond,
“Aw look, I broke them. You okay, darling?” She angled her head to the side cutely and laughed. “I’m sure I can put them back together, after all it was your fault.” Hawks peeped in and playfully glared at the other, while her arm wove around your waist as well. You were being pulled from both slides and you weren’t really complaining, deciding to speak up so this could continue not around others.
“U-um, as much as I love this and I do. Why don’t we do this away from everyone else? After I close, I promise we can continue this wherever you want. Yes?”
They both looked at each other then back to you, “Are you afraid of others seeing us fight over you? Because I’m sure we could make such a scene, don’t you think, Hawks~?”
“I know we could, Miruko~” He whispered back and tilted your head, kissing you quickly. You made a noise of surprise and returned it just as he pulled away. Being turned around and kissed by the red eyed hero behind you, breaking away for air at the last second. Humming,
“I do think getting out of here is a good idea. Wouldn’t want someone stealing you from us,” They both loosened their grips on you, letting you go and waving at you to close up with your boss. Walking over to talk to you and reassuring her that you’re okay, grabbing her shoulders when she started to look over you inquisitively.
“I promise that I’m okay. Now, I can clean up if you want?”
“No, No. I can handle that. Why don’t you get home safely and I can finish up here. Some officers are going to stay here to collect more details so I can’t close up until they're done.”
“Oh okay, thanks! What’s going to happen tomorrow?” It would be nice if you had a day off but you doubted it. As nice as your boss was, you still had to work to pay rent.
“We’ll have to start late, but if you don’t mind coming in around 1 tomorrow afternoon that would be very helpful. No one else is scheduled tomorrow except for the two of us and everyone else is on a vacation or it’s sunday coincidently.”
You agreed and left to get your stuff from the back after confirming with you, glancing back once more at the two pros still in the shop chatting with each other. If someone told you that both Hawks and Miruko would flirt with them after they were rescued from a life threatening robbery, you would’ve called them crazy.
I mean it’s hard to believe that a slow Saturday morning turned out so chaotic and eventful, you thought as you picked up your small bag holding all your belongings. You played with your keys as you thought over whether or not they were both serious and also trying to push the anxious thoughts away that ate away at your mind. If they weren’t serious then they could have just left you after you got your stuff or they wouldn’t have continued to flirt with you.
If both of the heros were still there when you got back then you could be sure that they weren't playing around. If they were gone then you could at least treasure the time you did have with them. Walking back you spotted the two of them leaning against the wall with a bored expression on their faces but lit up once they spotted you.
Hawks and Miruko were still there, guess that means they weren’t kidding. You met them at the door, “So should we get going?” Smiling, they both nodded and had some form of contact with you,, the rabbit hero holding your waist and the winged hero holding your hand, swinging it lightly.
The night air was cool and blew at your face, fluttering Hawk’s big crimson wings and Miruko’slong silver hair causing her ears to twitch slightly. You all walked in peaceful silence as you looked up at the stars, aware of both of them gazing at you in adoration. Laughing you, spoke up,
“I know you guys are staring but could you make it anymore more obvious?” Hawks lifted your intertwined hands and kissed the back of them.
“What can I say, I can’t help but look at the beauty in front of me. You’re just so god damn attractive baby bird. The way you look so cute just taking in the stars and not to mention how calmly you can handle stressful situations.” You chuckled humorlessly,
“I can tell you right now, I was so anxious there. Normally I’m a mess with that stuff but knowing someone else was there helped a bit to mask it. I’m not as strong as you think-”
He cut you off and stopped walking, facing you with a serious expression, “Fuck what you say because you made it out of there with little damage to yourself or others. I know it may not seem like it but you’re so strong for just making it through the day if what you say is true.”
Miruko chimed in, “He’s right for once,” she laughed playfully, “Even though you think your faults make you weak, they don’t. You have to overcome obstacles that others don’t have to and I know it’s tiring but you are so brave for just getting through each day. And this isn’t some hero shit I’m saying,”
You smiled and kissed her cheek, thanking both of them for cheering you up, “Hey- where’s my thank you. I’m sad you forgot about me, kid.” Hawks pouted, brightening up when you gave him a peck and continued to walk to your apartment.
When the three of you arrived, you hugged the heroes and kissed their lips quickly. You got pulled back when you started to walk up the stairs, being captured in a passionate kiss with Hawks. Returning the kiss and tilting your head to deepen it. His warm soft lips colliding against yours and bringing a hand up to the back of your neck.
The blonde bird rubbing circles on your hip with the other hand, breaking apart and running his thumbs against your bottom lip, “Now, we can say goodbye. For now obviously.” You blushed and turned to Miruko, giving her a passionate kiss as well. Her silver hair brushing your legs as her tongue grazed your bottom lip, leaning back just as you were going to allow her access.
“Next time, we can pick up where we left off cutie~” She said as they handed you bits of folded paper. Smiling back at them as they left, a gust of wind being forced your way as Hawks took off into the dark sky and Miruko running off in the opposite direction.
You stood there for a few seconds recalling everything that had happened in the last 2 hours. Blinking and shaking yourself out of zoning out, you went up the stairs and used your key to get. Running up to your shared apartment and slamming open the door, panting,
“River! You’ll never guess what just happened to me!”
After explaining everything to your roommate, River, what had happened last night and having a small moment of shock with them that you indeed flirted with two stunningly attractive pro heroes, turning in for the night after all the excitement. You did have another shift the next day but at least you could sleep in.
Part of you was curious if you’d see them again and you hoped you would, but you did understand that they were probably very busy and had their hands full. Even still, you couldn't help but imagine what your life would be like if they were in it.
Surprise visits during their patrols or romantic date nights on their days off. Your mind could go on and on about the possibilities and your memories of tonight only fueled it. Eventually, letting sleep consume you and leading you off to a wonderful dream, only to be abruptly woken up hours later by your alarm signalling that you had to get ready.
Getting out of bed, you spot the small bits of paper they gave you last night and pick up your phone to text them a good morning as it couldn't hurt.
Y/N: Good morning you guys! <3
Short and simple, adding a heart for good measures. You headed to the bathroom to get ready for the day, brushing your teeth and running your fingers through your hair to get out the bed head. Deciding that you were good and slipping on your work uniform because it was comfortable and pointless since you’d be going to work soon.
“Morning River! How’d you sleep?” You speak to them as you walk into the kitchen and pour yourself a cup of lukewarm coffee, making another for them. They groan a bit then rest their head on their folded arms,
“Could have been better. Just some insomnia and binge watching keeping me up. How about you?” Taking the coffee and drinking a bit, sighing contently at the caffeine buzz it gave them. You sat down next to them with some toast in hand, taking a bite and swallowing before answering River.
“Good, besides some scenarios that popped into my mind after last night.” They laughed as you hit their arm, “Hey! Stop laughing! It’s not my fault that it's the most significant thing that happened this week-”
“No-no, I’m not laughing at you but at how you kept thinking of what might happen in the future~” they said in a playful tone, stealing your toast for a bite causing you to elbow them and take it back. “I’m just shocked that it happened to me of all people. I’m not complaining whatsoever, I loved every second of it. it's the most attention I’ve had on myself for a while,”
You sipped your coffee again and continued to talk with your roommate about today and what it could hold. River had a job as a teacher’s assistant but since it was the weekend they had work off, both of you helping out with the rent. Taking a look at the clock and and seeing it was 11am,
“I’m heading out to the store to get more milk and coffee since we’re pretty much out of it and I don’t want to deal with your ass without coffee.” River stuck their tongue out playfully and you did it back to them, slipping on a light jacket and heading out.
Stepping out onto the streets it was mildly busy, certain pros were patrolling and people were chatting as they walked down the sidewalk. You put in your earbuds and put on a random song as you made your way to the nearest convenience store, feeling your phone buzz with texts.
Hawks: Morning dove <3
Miruko: Morning <3
Hawks: r u free tonight? Say around 8ish?
Miruko: We’d love to hang out with you again, baby.
You blushed at their greetings and went to text back yes, looking back up for the store across the street. Taking a quick look both ways before jogging across and being greeted by the cool air of the shop, buying some coffee and milk.
After you got what you needed, you headed back to your apartment when your phone buzzed again and picked it up thinking it was them again. Miruko’s contact popped up, surprising you a bit but answering it nonetheless and putting your earbuds in for privacy. You heard her smooth voice speak,
“Hey Y/N. How are you? I’m so excited to see you again tonight~” She purred.
“I-I’m good. I can’t wait to see you too! How are you doing?” “Better now that I’m talking to you, cutie,”
Shaking your head to focus so you didn't walk into anything while you talked to Miruko, “God, you two never fail to fluster me,” You laugh, “I hope you didn’t ignore work just to call me. I wouldn't want to be the cause of any trouble-”
You hear her chuckle over the phone, “No, I’m not. Just doing boring paperwork, the uneventful side of being a hero that you don’t see. Don’t worry, I can easily listen to your sweet voice while doing something else.”
Almost at your apartment, you kept walking past in favor of talking with Miruko more and starting your day with a pleasant start.
“You know, I can’t wait till we are alone with you. I get to have you all to myself, taste those soft lips again and see that blush on your cheeks just from my praise, my voice.”
Shit. It suddenly got a bit warmer, a heavy blush filling your face and letting out a noise of surprise. Wasn’t she worried about someone hearing her? At least you had headphones in, you can’t imagine the embassament if you had answered this in your apartment. The amount of teasing you’d get from River about how ‘they’re practically all over you and how lucky you are’.
“Oh, what was that? Do you like all my praise I’m giving you? Get a look at that wonder body of yours, worshipping all your curves and don’t even get me started on those plush thighs of yours. Perfect for marking with hickeys and bites, just screaming that you’re all mine.”
You were thinking of sitting down somewhere so you wouldn’t drop anything or bump into anyone because of how hazed you were. Trying to push your lewd intrusive thoughts back as they crept up, and focus on walking like a normal person.
“How I would love to see your face right now, I’m sure it’s bright red. Unfortunately, I’ll have to save the rest for tonight. Duty calls. Later, darling~” You stutter out a goodbye before hearing her hangup and it’s safe to say you walk back to your apartment in silence. Desperate to calm your blush down so River doesn’t ambush you with questions you don’t have the answers to.
Unlocking your door and putting the groceries away, calling to River that you were going to make lunch then head to work. Making yourself a quick sandwich and scrolling through your phone while you wait for it to be done. You went onto social media and coincidently saw some photos from a shoot that some pros must have done.
You spot Hawks striking a pose, in casual clothes, wearing a white shirt under a black bomber jacket, navy jeans with a couple tears in them, and a silver feather charm on a chain. Smiling at the camera, no doubt charming every person who saw the post, including you. Scrolling down to see a picture of Miruko, also in much formal clothes, smirking at the camera while playing with a collar of the navy suit she was wearing.
To say that they were both attractive was an understatement and it seemed unfair because they were both so gorgeous, but you got a little confidence boost. Knowing that they flirted with you and only with you, and were interested in you enough to have a date with you. At least you thought it was a date.
You weren’t sure if it was but with Miruko’s words in your head still, calling it a date seemed like an understatement too because how… flirty she was. Scenarios again filling your head, you could only imagine what Hawks would be like since they both seemed so competitive and trying to one up each other by flustering you as much as possible.
The timer on your phone rang and you ate your sandwich, luckily being distracted by your roommate making lunch as well while chatting with you about some drama that happened to the teachers where they worked. Enjoying the calm and fun moment that didn’t have you blushing on cloud nine, even though it felt amazing.
=“Alright, I’m headed off to work. See ya River!” They waved goodbye and took a bite of their sandwich. You locked the door behind you as you headed off to work, seeing the streets were busier now and different heroes were on patrol, catching sights of what must be students working with pros. The sun was beating down on you and everyone else and you were grateful to work in a place with AC.
You called out to your boss as you walked in and returned her greeting, heading to the back to put your stuff away. Getting behind the counter and taking the next order as she was making the previous customers’, people coming in and out occasionally sitting down with their food or drink. You didn’t blame them with how hot it was today and continued making drinks and ringing people up.
An hour passed as the shop grew quiet and you and your manager were talking quietly about last night and how clean up went, when the bell rang signalling someone came in. You went back to the register, calling to your manager that you got this one. Making your usual greeting but halting when you saw who it was,
“Hello, welcome to Delights Cafe! What can I get you- Hawks?” You nervously laughed under your breath, “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be working or patrolling right now?”
The red winged hero smiled, “Aw I’m so happy you remembered me. I was just on my break when I was passing by and saw this place again, thinking I should take my break here.” You smiled back and shook your head in disbelief, it couldn’t be a coincidence that you heard from both of them today.
“Of course, well what can I get you, Hawks?” he scanned the menu behind you, “Everything here sounds so good, but I don’t suppose you’re on the menu?” You couldn't help but laugh at the lame pick up line and attempt to stifle your laugh to remain professional.
“That was so cheesy, but no, I’m not on the menu.” You responded, still containing your laughter as he winked at you again “Damn. Guess I’ll have to wait until tonight~” Hawks got closer and leant over the counter as you anxiously scanned the shop to make sure no one was looking. The cafe was practically empty and your boss was busy making food for another customer, not paying any attention to you.
“I heard that rabbit got some time alone with you and I can’t say I’m too happy with that. As far as she’s concerned, you’re mine. Those beautiful hips and gorgeous eyes luring me in, how you taste so good when I kiss you. I love how flustered you get when I tease you, just a few words and you’re practically all red by my hands.” Shit. What’d you say! They’re competitive and you were the prize that came with bragging rights.
Even with that small praise, you were already blushing quite a bit and it only made the hero’s smirk widen, which made your mind go even more hazy. You went to say something but you couldn’t make a cohesive sentence,
“How did- How did you find out-” You were interrupted as he brought up something on his phone, showing you a series of texts.
Miruko: Hey birdy, guess who I got to spend some quality time with? I can’t wait to see them mewling out my mine and completely helpless over me.
Hawks: Like that would ever happen, you saw how flustered they were when I was giving them all that attention.
Miruko: Well safe to say that they’re mine now, bird brain.
Hawks: Guess I’ll have to even the odds.
Putting his phone back into his pocket, “Now you why I’m here. She may have got a moment with you this morning but she’s not here to stop me now.” He lowered his voice an octave and whispered, “I know you’d be moaning out my name with everything I want to do to you. How your thighs would squeeze me as I ate that delicious pussy of yours.”
“How you love me teasing you, edging you till you see stars and tasting all your juices as come undone under me.” Your cheeks burned as you met his gaze, those golden yellow eyes piercing you, and your mouth opened to say something but again nothing came out. How could he say something so lewd in public. In plain sight?!
“Hawks-” “The number 4 looks great! I’ll take that and an iced coffee.” The blonde quickly spoke in a happy go lucky tone like nothing happened while you shook your head, clearing your mind. It stunned you how quick he could change attitudes and cover everything up with just a smile. Nevertheless, you nodded and told him his total, giving him his receipt as he paid. You could feel his eyes on you as you made his order, tracking your every movement like ….well like a hawk.
You gave him his food and drink, thanking him for coming but not before receiving a kiss on the cheek seeing his wink and walking out the doors, flying off somewhere to eat. Standing there in somewhat of a shock at what just happened, again they managed to leave you speechless and flustered.
You could only imagine how tonight was going to be and you were counting down every hour till you saw them. Brushing off your thoughts and cleaning the counter, waiting for the next customer to order. Hours passed as people came and left, the afternoon turning into night as 6pm rolled around and your shift ended, helping your manager close the store.
Both of you made sure everything was locked up and secure so no one could break in. You said farewell to her and you basically ran to your apartment, overjoyed that it was almost 8. Running up the steps and throwing open the doors, not hearing the usual shout from River to not slam open the door. Everything was in its place and nothing was moved except for some dishes in the sink which they had probably left.
You put your bag down and took your jacket off, hanging it on a hook to the side of the closed door. A yellow sticky note on the counter caught your eye, and you walked over and picked it up reading it.
Hi, Y/N! One of my coworkers called me upset because of some rumors spreading about her through some shitty teachers and I went over to her place to work things out. Sorry, I didn’t tell you but I know you’ll find a way to have fun without me.
See ya later.
River.
You laughed softly and threw the note away, happy that you had the apartment to yourself tonight. Washing the remaining dishes and putting them in the cabinet, going to your room and cleaning it up. Searching for someone to wear other than your uniform and finding something cute to wear.
Preparing some food for you guys to eat, and turning the stove on, figuring pasta was good. Thoughts filled your head once again as the time got closer and closer to 8. You were in your head when someone knocked on your door, pulling you out of your head and you turned off the stove to go meet them.
Bright red wings and a pair of soft white ears greeted you, they both smiled at you walking in and shutting the door behind them. Miruko walked over, giving you a peck on the cheek, “Evening cutie. I missed this cute face of yours.”
Hawks came over after slipping off his jacket and captured your lips in a gentle kiss. “You look amazing as always.”
“You both look stunning, I can’t believe this is actually happening. I don’t know why you both are interested in me when you could easily go for someone else-”
“But we’re not and we chose you because you’re just so adorable and alluring to resist.” Miruko spoke as she wrapped an arm around your waist and cupped your jaw, kissing you passionately. Her soft lips pressing against yours and taking short breaths. She ran her tongue along your bottom lip and nipped it.
“Miruko-” “Rumi. Tonight it’s Rumi. I’m not a hero but someone enjoying their date with a cutie like you.” Nodding you smiled and reached up to touch her ears, feeling the soft white fur and silky white hair behind it. A feather brushed your cheek and turned your head over to Hawks.
“And we couldn’t just let a beauty like you be taken by someone else. Call me Keigo.” You buried your head in his chest and sighed, “Thank you Keigo. Why don’t we eat?”
He smirked and brought you closer toward him, tilting your head up, “Gladly. I’ve been waiting for this all day” Keigo got down on his knees and ran his hands over your hips, the sight below causing you to blush.
He hooked hands on the sides of your pants, glancing back up at you just to make sure you were okay with this (A/N:Cause we love consent and it's sexy) and slowly pulled them down once you nodded, humming as it got lower and lower.
Rumi mumbled something and pulled in for a kiss, passionately slamming her lips on yours and massaging your lips. She tilted your head up as you felt warm hands rub your thighs, placing kisses and bites all over them. He pushed you legs apart for a better position and put one leg over his shoulder, blowing some cold air on your clothed clit causing you too to whimper into the kiss.
“Damn. I can’t wait anymore.” Throwing away his self restraint and moving your panties down to your ankles, licking a slow lineup from the bottom to the top. Your moans were swallowed by Rumi taking the opportunity to push her tongue into your mouth, claiming your mouth as she explored every inch of it.
Letting you breath as she placed small kisses on your upper lip, but going back to kiss you and bite your lip. You felt light headed as Kiego ate you out, his tongue swirling around your bud and sucking your clit. Enjoying the lewd sounds you were making all because of him,
“Your pussy is so fucking delicious, I could eat it out night and day, baby bird.” You felt his warm breath fan your clit and blushed at his words, “Let me hear that beautiful voice of yours crying out for me.” Keigo spoke before he dove back in and thrust his tongue deeper, making you let out another loud moan. He laughed and continued to move his along your sensitive walls, sucking on your bud simultaneously.
Rumi broke the kiss and tilted your head to the side, “That was mine, Kiego. They clearly enjoy me much more.” She bit your neck as you cried out, “Rumi! Keigo! It feels so good. Please more,” A mewl escaped your mouth as Keigo bit your labia and you caught his gaze. His blonde wiry hair strewn about as your hand grabbed it and those bright golden eyes examined your pleasure ridden face.
Kisses and bites covered your neck as Rumi found your sweet spot, abusing it mercilessly and sucking it. She peppered kisses all over your neck and nipped it whenever your attention was directly away from her. One of her hands around your waist and the other crawling underneath your shirt and cupping your chest, flicking your nipples as you arched your back.
“That’s it baby~” She cooed as she continued her attack on your neck, rubbing your nipple in between her fingers, you pushed your body into hers. Keigo meanwhile was feeling left out and sucked on your clit and moved his tongue in and out, feeling your walls clamp down on his tongue. Your legs shook as a knot built up and if not for their hands holding you up you would’ve fallen.
“Cum for me songbird. Let me hear that voice cry out in pleasure~” Rumi used both hands to push up your shirt and gave attention to both breasts. Giving one a lick, feeling you to tense up and moan, pinching and pulling the other as you sucked and licked the other. Switching position to keep the pleasure growing and smirking as she heard you breath hitch, Keigo swirled his tongue around your bud and coaxed two fingers in your pussy.
The wonderful stretch nearly pushed you over the edge as his finger pumped in and out, using his tongue to give you some outer stimulation. Humming when your grip on his hair tightened and sent waves of pleasure crashing down on you with his vibrations, feeling his hold tighten on your thighs as you shook. Keigo used his tongue to help you ride out your orgasm and Rumi played with your nipples, pulling you in for a kiss and capturing your moans.
“Damn, Baby Bird. You’re so goddamn attractive. How’d we get so lucky?” The red winged man spoke, running circles on your thigh and lovingly looking at your expression twisted in pleasure. That must have been one of the best climaxes you’ve had, even with your vibrators and exes. You caught your breath and opened your heavy eyelids, seeing Rumi and Keigo look at you, no doubt a mess.
“That- That was amazing. Fuck. You both are incredible. I guess we’re skipping dinner then?” They laughed at your joke and stood up, still holding onto your hips to keep you steady just in case. Keigo buries his head into your neck giving it light kisses, “I don’t know I’m still pretty hungry~ I mean we haven’t even gotten to the main course, songbird.”
Rumi spoke up, “I’m waiting for my turn too. Won’t you do me the pleasure of eating me out?” A crimson blush spread over your cheeks and you took a step back onto the wall, both of them caging you in, “I’m going to fuck you till the only thing you remember is our names.” He whispered in your ear, biting your lobe, “Now, where is the bedroom?”

The Oncoming Storm Part 2: Fire
Fandom: Mortal Kombat 2021
Liu Kang x Reader or Kung Lao x Reader
Summary: You wake up somewhere strange *again*. This time your underground and greeted by Liu Kang. For some reason you trust him, but why?
A/N: Have I mentioned I’m a huge fan of the slow burn? Whoops. I’ll let you guys know when the paths are branching between Lao/Liu. Thanks for reading and hope you keep enjoying! Also, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
<< Previous Chapter Next Chapter >> Chapter Index
Warm flames flickered off brown-gray stone walls. Other than the burning flame to your right, the room was small and dark. There was no door and you could hear movement somewhere beyond its opening. I’m underground, you thought. The air smelled musty and it was so dry that your nose burned. Underground and maybe in the desert. You closed your eyes again quickly.
In your mind’s eye you pictured the small purple flower Kung Lao had given you in your youth. Frail and rare. Many flowers had grown in your hometown but purple had been a new and exotic color. You’d always been fond of it afterward. You’d never gotten the chance to tell Kung Lao that. For a time you had kept it pressed between the pages of your favorite book as a memorial to the boy who had been your best friend. You hadn’t thought about the flower in years. You’d be lying if you said you hadn’t thought about him.
The details of what happened were fuzzy. You remembered the fight in your shop and remembered waking up to the face of Kung Lao. It was still insane to think that the boy you’d thought dead was, in fact, alive and in good health. It was even crazier to think that he’d been the one to save you from the fire in your shop.
You shook away the memory lest it return you to the darkness of unconsciousness.
You were, again, in an unfamiliar bed but things were vastly different. You’d been cared for and changed into a modest dressing gown, judging by the soft but coarse material. This had likely been done by a health professional. You were certain that Kung Lao must have brought you somewhere to be helped. Then again, most hospitals you knew of weren’t underground and they certainly didn’t use these types of gowns. It wasn’t a hospital gown, more like the type of gown that would have been worn for bed in ages past. Long and thin, but warm. You pictured it off-white. The one you wore had no sleeves, most likely for ease of access since you’d been injured.
You had to decide if you should panic or not. If you looked around and saw a medical professional or Kung Lao then you would remain calm. If you didn’t then panic seemed the way to go. Opening your eyes again, you were relieved that the world didn’t spin and you weren’t nauseous. But there was no doctor and definitely no Kung Lao.
There was a different man in his place, unfamiliar, shorter in stature, his gaze focused on something other than you. He was dressed mostly in black, no sleeves (which seemed the fashion of this underground wherever), and a red sash tied around his middle. His demeanor was calm and quiet and in his left hand he clutched a string of prayer beads. His skin was dusted with soot or grease, you couldn’t tell. He looked as though he had been handling charcoal for hours. He was also surprisingly muscular.
And handsome. You wouldn’t deny that you’d admired him. His brow was knit with concern and as you shifted, he turned toward you. Brown eyes met yours with genuine concern and he held a hand up defensively. “Take it slow.” His voice was soothing but this was all too familiar.
A strange bed and a stranger next to it after having fallen unconscious. He was telling you how what to do and how to feel. Again. Not a chance! On the small table next to the head of the bed there was a bowl half-filled with water and some medical tools. The tool closest to you was a hook used for stitching up wounds. It wasn’t the best weapon but it was all you could reach. You sat upright quickly, snatched the hook, and moved far enough away from the stranger that you had room to breathe and could better gauge his intent and reactions.
But you had moved too quickly and suddenly there were ten of him as the room spun. You thought you might puke if he got any closer. That would get him away from you, probably better than the needle would. Much to your surprise, he laughed with the subtlest of smiles. The smile radiated more from his eyes amidst his worry than it did outwardly. “You’re surprisingly fast for someone who has been in and out of consciousness for over a week.”
“A… a week?” You stuttered and forced your vision to focus on the blurry version of him smiling in the middle. Thankfully, your brain obeyed and the room stopped spinning. He didn’t seem to pose you any threat. You could tell just by his smile. A smile that made him all the more handsome. The time that had passed was not important so you didn’t wait for an answer to your initial question. “Who are you? Where am I? And where is Kung Lao?” Those three things were at the top of your list now that you were thinking clearly. There were a hundred other questions you had about Mortal Kombat, the dragon mark on your back, and other realms but you figured those could come later. Dealing with the here and now; that was the right way to do it.
“I am Liu Kang.” He bowed his head, holding up his prayer beads as he did. “You are in Raiden’s Temple where the Order of Light gathers to protect Earthrealm. Kung Lao is off on an errand at Lord Raiden’s behest. I assure you that he did not wish to leave you but had little other choice.”
Breathing a sigh of relief, you leaned against the cool stone behind you. Answers, finally. “I’m Y/N. Thank you for answering my questions.”
“Kung Lao mentioned you would likely be defensive.” Liu Kang gestured to the bowl on the nightstand. “I have been caring for your wounds. I do not usually tend to the sick but I promised my cousin that I would see you were cared for.”
“Cousin?”
“Kung Lao. He is my brother. Not by blood but by bond.”
That was a relief. At least this complete stranger had a connection to the other near complete stranger that you’d met the last time you’d woken up in a strange place. Wait… hadn’t you gone blind? Setting the hook back down on the side table, you patted your face in search of a mark or wound that would have caused that. There was none. Liu Kang’s eyes were sparkling in amusement.
“The last thing I remember is losing my vision.” You explained.
“Yes, about that.” Liu Kang moved the hook back to its original place. “The men who attacked your shop were vicious and cruel warriors. They were gifted but squandered their gifts to satiate their greed, a thing that can never be sated. You did the world a favor by stopping them. However, the blades that wounded you were coated in a rare poison. It is lucky that Kung Lao found you and could bring you to us for treatment. The blindness was a temporary side effect of the poison.”
“Poison?” This was wild. That morning you’d been stocking your shop and had taught a class of ten-year-olds. Now you’d been attacked, killed a few men, and had been poisoned. Wild. You supposed, in reality, it had been over a week ago and not that morning. Whatever. You decided to take the blows as they came. Deal with the problems and insanity as it happened. It was the only way to keep a clear head.
“It took many days and much prayer but we bled the poison from your wounds. Now they should begin to heal.”
“I’m still stuck on the poison part of this story. Really? Who does that?”
“You must be very resilient, Miss Y/N. Even the mightiest of warriors poisoned so terribly would submit to death. You are a fighter.”
“Thanks… I think.”
Liu Kang bowed his head again respectfully. He was easy to talk to, you weren’t sure why. You’d been careful around Kung Lao but you found yourself immediately not careful around Liu Kang. There was an instant connection to him.
“I was ill as a child. It made me more resilient to sickness, perhaps.” You had been ill but it had been the kind of illness that parents sent their children away for, the kind where they couldn’t explain how their child saw or did things beyond their understanding. It had made you terribly sick and weak. Why were you telling him this? It’d slipped out of your mouth without permission from your lips.
“I have not met many who would credit childhood illness for their resilience.”
“Perhaps I’m more stubborn than most. I’ve been told I have thick skin. The kids would tease me for being different. I was told that I would never be strong. I would never catch up. Never be normal. I didn’t like that word, not even as a kid.”
“Which one?”
“Never.”
That subtle smile again. Damn, it was attractive.
“I’m sorry.” You laughed with an apologetic bow of your own. Your head spun and you mentally cursed your politeness. “I didn’t mean to say all that. It just slipped out.”
“It’s no problem. I would like you to continue your story if you would.”
“Only if you’re certain.”
“I assure you that I’m not merely being polite.” There was something genuine about his words, as if he considered them carefully before he spoke. Perhaps Kung Lao had warned him about you. Or perhaps he was just careful. Your first instinct had been to jump at them both. It was their every right to be defensive but you couldn’t be blamed either. “How did you overcome your illness?”
“I fought. I worked harder than most did just to be on the same level as everyone else. I grew out of my sickness with age and thanks to my hard work I became stronger than most. After that I dedicated my life to teaching others to become strong, to be more than the ‘never’ we’re told we’ll be.”
“Admirable.” Liu Kang seemed as relieved as you had been upon discovering he was not there to hurt you. Maybe he’d been worried about your intent too. “It is nice to have another worthy of their marking.”
“The dragon mark?”
“Yes.”
“About that…”
“Do you know why you are here?”
“Kung Lao said something about being chosen because of the mark but I’m guessing that the mark only came to me because I killed those men. Am I right? It had to belong to one of them. It’s less like I was chosen and more like… I stole it.”
“Yes. Did Kung Lao tell you? He said you wouldn’t understand.”
“I assume that he would have told me but then I went blind. As you can imagine, I no longer cared much about the mark after that.” You laughed and so did Liu Kang. His laugh was quiet and genuine. It made you smile far more than should have been allowed. His joy was as comforting as the flickering light of the candle on the side table. “I didn’t have the mark that morning. I can only assume that was when I got it. Weirder things have happened so it was as good a guess as any.”
“Your intuition is remarkable.”
“What happens next?”
“For now you heal.” Liu Kang gestured to your arms. The gauze wrapped around your forearms was stained with blood even though the dressings looked fresh. You didn’t feel any pain. Either you’d been given good drugs to deal or adrenaline was protecting you. “You are in no condition to begin training. Lord Raiden has been told about you. I am keeping him informed on your condition.”
“So, you’re my babysitter.”
“I prefer caretaker. But yes.”
“If it’s been a week and I’m still bleeding like this then I have a feeling it could take awhile to heal. Can I learn more in the meantime? About any of this? I don’t want to just sleep and sit around doing nothing. I don’t know anything about this place and I know very little about the Order of Light. And I definitely don’t know anything about this mark or Mortal Kombat.” Liu Kang seemed surprised, but pleasantly so, as if this were something he’d greatly desired to hear.
“You really want to learn more?” He smiled brightly. You nodded. “The masters have trained me for years in matters of Mortal Kombat and the protection of Earthrealm. I would be happy to teach you if you would allow me.”
“I would be delighted to have the company, Liu Kang.” You very much meant that.
“I have some work to do around the temple but we can start this evening.”
“Perfect.”

Can’t Say It.
Aizawa x Reader
Word Count: 3,541
A/N: Fluff, dragged out but it’s a happy ending. One shot. Age difference (9 years) Reader is 22 while Aizawa is 31. Mentions of alcohol.
Reader is a young teacher at UA who has a unique relationship with Pro Hero and coworker Eraserhead. After a while of getting to know each other, will they realize their feelings? OR will they let self doubt get in the way.
CHARACTER REPORT
Position: UA SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
Job Description: Quirk Analysis and Evaluation Processing.
Name: (L/N), (F/N) Power: 2/5 D Intelligence: 4/5 B
Birthday: (5/10) Speed: 2/5 B Cooperativeness: 5/5 A
Age: 22 Technique: 5/5 S
Sex: Female (She/Her)
Quirk: Analysis
-(Y/N) is able to instantly analyze a person and their abilities after observing them, familiarizing themselves with their qurik. This also includes evaluating/predicting situations with higher than average accuracy. With this ability, she can use this information with or against a subject. She can keep up to three peoples' worth of information perfectly memorized at a time. Anymore, her analysis starts to create more errors and her accuracy decreases.
--
Ever since (y/n) started working at UA, everyone knew that Aizawa’s single streak was in danger.
While the scruff chined 1-A homeroom teacher taught his bustling young hero course, she supported the admin staff! Specifically falling under processing and evaluating every student's quirk and how to help progress their potential. This means every homeroom teacher ran their notes and evaluations about their students through her every quarter, possibly more depending on how active and intense their training has been. She and her small team are a key to the school’s successful hero and support course. No matter how a quirk was used, they would find the best way to help them improve it.
Classroom 1-A currently holds the record for most updates and changes to analysis (surprise). With an increase in updates, (y/n) has spent more sleepless nights making sure her work was perfect than she originally thought she was going to. Not that she minded of course! She was young, and found that it helped drive her to improve her passions and skill. Besides her administrative work, she also works as a substitute teacher for English, and Hero Strategy lessons twice a semester. If needed she is more than happy to help with summer lessons.
Aizawa has had more than his fair share of interaction with the young lady, more than others if one was keeping track. After the hero noticed (y/n)’s sleepless nights because of his students, he offered to stay and bring her coffee. When (y/n) noticed extra heavy bags under his eyes, there would be a nicely wrapped lunch on his desk with a cute thank you note in return.
Over time a unique relationship developed between the two that anyone looking in could clearly see. Including the students.
“Mr Aizawa! Your lady friend left ya another lunch, you’re so LUCKY.” Denki and Mineta whined without hesitation.
“Why don’t we get cute lunches made by cute girls?”
“Shut up! That’s Ms. (L/n) you’re talking about, not some side chick you dumbos. I think it’s really sweet.” Mina cooed alongside some of the other girls.
Their homeroom teacher could only sigh, carefully tucking away the lunch box into his work desk as he partially ignored their scattered comments. “Lucky or not, you all should have your notes out and study. Your test scores from last week clearly tell me I haven’t given enough in class work time. Do I have to cut down on our outside training hours?” The instant shuffling of paper and pencils brought a small smirk to his face. Nothing got his students off his back faster than less training hours. As he took attendance and organized his schedule, the small peeks at the lunch box reminded him about his last encounter with his….coworker.
--
“Midoriya is such a strange boy you know? I’m surprised his quirk doesn't instantly tear his body apart every time he uses it. I’m glad he’s getting a handle on it, I hated seeing him hurt himself so often.” You were sat cross legged in your office chair, typing away at your laptop underneath a bright desk lamp.
“I agree, he needs to learn how to use his body with his quirk.”
“Exactly!- Well, it looks like his rate of injuries compared to training has decreased. Based off of Recovery Girls records, his quirk usage deteriorated his arm muscle effectiveness. This means he’s got to either limit his usage on his arms, or learn how to use the rest of his body to compensate.” Rubbing your eyes shifted your reading glasses off of your face, exposing the bags that were starting to grow underneath them.
“You shouldn’t be getting such heavy bags under your eyes like that, you’re too young for those (L/n).” He always notices them, no matter how well hidden.
“Ya, okay GRAMPS. You’re not that much older than me and YOUR eyes are just as bad, if not worse. And call me (y/n), we’re friends aren't we?”
Rolling his eyes, Aizawa gets up with a huff to pour some coffee from the nearby coffee pot. “Midoriya is your last report tonight right? Go home, you’ve got Hero Strategy classes tomorrow.” as if on cue, he hands you the cup of warm coffee while you reach out for it with a quiet “Thank you”.
The way you hold the cup in your hands and let the warm steam brush against your face leaves him staring at you with a soft look.
“I guess I could leave a little earlier than I thought....” blowing cool air onto the coffee, you slowly take a sip of the warm beverage. Every time you see that look on his face, you can’t help but wonder what he’s feeling.
After a short while, you both clean up and close the office up. It’s 1 AM and both of you are more than ready to get at least a few hours of sleep in. Like usual, he walks you halfway to your home before bidding his own goodbye.
“Goodnight (L/n).” As Aizawa turns to walk away, he feels a small tug at his sleeve.
“I uh-” Turning to look around, he sees you with pinker cheeks underneath a streetlight. How do you always look so...nice? No matter the light you always look nice.
You slowly slid your hand down his arm to gently hold onto his hand. It was so soft, not just the hold but your skin. You couldn't even look at him but your voice was clear as day.
“Thank you, for staying with me. I know how tired you must be too….so I feel honored that you decide to spend your important time with me- er, to help me. You’re a great teacher and man Aizawa. Good night.” Just as quick as the moment had started, your touch was gone and you made your way home.
He was alone, yet he could still feel your touch on his skin. Aizawa stood there for minutes, looking at his hand in awe and strange curiosity. His coworkers and friends told him multiple times, “You two aren’t a thing?”, “It’s obvious that you fancy her Shouta.”,
“She has to feel the same, you don’t see how she looks at you when you aren’t paying attention.”
--
The school bell alerting the start of their first class was what pulled Aizawa out of his mind, looking up to see (y/n) walk into the class with your information tablet. ‘Ah, right. Hero Strategy.’ “Good Morning class! Great to see you all again.” She was chipper as always, her makeup easily covering her endeavors from the night before. The young teacher wore simple black tights with her training sweat jacket, everyone murmured in excitement because this meant that there would be out of class training and demonstrations Rubbing his exhaustion from his face, the black haired male stands up to go stand near (y/n). “You all have ten minuets to change and get to the field. Any longer and you’ll be stuck in cleaning duty for the week.”
Iida is quick to stand and grab his fellow classmates attention. “Quickly but in order, please gather your things and head to the gym! No RUNNING!” As valiant as his efforts were, everyone rushed out of the class in fear of being put into the cleaning crew while it was out of their turn.
The small smile he saw on your face was sobering, calmly following behind you as you made your way to the gym.
Usually, Aizawa would sneak into his sleeping back and nap during other teachers' lessons. These ones were different for him. He would sit off to the side and observe how you worked with the kids.
While some students could take simple suggestions and immediately apply them, others needed physical examples. You were more than happy to adapt to all their needs as they all trained with their new plans and teachers notes. While Tokoyami nodded and talked with Dark Shadow about your observations, Uraraka carefully mimicked your moves as you slowly countered her attacks explaining how they affected her opponent's momentum even more.
He knew you were a natural when it came to children and hero work. The obvious proof was right in front of him. That and he was nine years older than you, yet you both were doing almost the exact same job. That's where everything starts to blur for him.
After a quick practice round with Shoji, a rundown with Bakugo about his quirk usage along with Midoriya and the rest of the class, their first class of the day was over.
The rest of the day went normal, and (Y/n) left to finish the rest of her lessons while Aizawa did the same.
--
After a long week, you were more than happy to have the weekend to yourself, or so you thought.
Incoming Call: Keigo <(‘v’)>
“Keigo?”
“Hey tiny, sorry to bother but I felt like I should call in and see how you were doing.”
“I’m fine, just getting ready to watch some movies and order take in. Had a long week. You?”
“Gonna be heading out to an event soon! Glad to hear you're doing good. Any luck with your crush on the office grandpa?”
You roll your eyes as you wiggle yourself into more blankets, clicking through the different documentaries you could find on YouTube.
“I don’t have a crush on Aizawa, and even IF I did he is NOT a grandpa. He would probably want someone closer to his age anyway. The whole life experience gap and everything.”
“Yeah okay, whatever. Don't get mad at me when you realize I’m right and you're missing out on not being single anymore.”
“You’ll be the first person I call when you’re actually right. ” “Ouch-”
“Pfft, talk to you later Kei. I have an hour long video about the origin of heroes and it’s calling my name.”
“Bye bye!”

No matter how relaxed you were or how interesting the documentary was, you couldn't get you know who out of your mind. Could you have a crush on Aizawa Shouta? Silver Fox hero of the night? Grumpy man who likes taking naps in the middle of the day? You couldn’t lie, he was attractive and his personality was more than pleasant to you at least. It always felt like something was there between you two..between late night talks and having lunch together sometimes. It felt like there was a connection, and the only thing keeping you two from connecting was a waterfall of hesitation and doubt.
“Whatever…”

“WoooOO! Staff Party, this is gonna be a blast Listeners! Present Mic here to keep your evening thrilling with an amazing music selection!”
Upbeat music with minimal words played through the old speakers of a rented out ballroom. It was the end of the first semester staff party, everyone was dressed semi formal with their hair done nicely and makeup to match. The decorations were nice, and tables were laid out with food, drinks and chairs to relax and chat.
Aizawa was one of the first to show up since he and Yamada came together like usual. Although he socialized with other teachers as they passed by, he stayed closer to the walls and talked with Kayama most of the time. He was dressed fairly well, a simple fitted dark g suit coat with normal slacks. The usually wild and wavy mess of locks was neatly tied back into a very clean half knot that showed off his handsome face.
“No date Shouta? I was sure that pretty young thing would be with you tonight. (L/n) Right, she’s such a lovely girl.” Kayama’s hair was curled beautifully around her, a long fitted dress with a deep V cut showing off her lovely charm. Aizawa only rolled his eyes, sipping on his Champaign class to avoid talking even if it was just for a second more.
“It would make more sense for her to come in with someone closer to her age or with a friend. She is the youngest person on staff you know.”
“Age this age that blah blah BLAH. I know love when I see it-”
“Not love, this isn’t some romance film Nemuri.”
With a small and understanding smile, Nemuri reaches out to gently pat her dear friend's shoulder. “Someday, you’re going to realize that the things that are holding you back are nothing but a reflection of your own worries. I know you’ll figure it out. You both will. Now try to have fun-” Her attention was stolen away for a moment, a glint of excitement in her eyes clear as day. “If you’re worried about how she feels and how she’s doing, why don't you go show her around and make sure she feels welcomed?”
Turning around, the first thing Aizawa see’s is you. A cheesy thing to say, but he almost feels his heart skip a bit.
You wore a black turtleneck underneath a midnight blue spaghetti strap dress that fit you just right. Knitted knee high socks and stylish black heel boots finished off your look along with a beautiful pearl pendant necklace. Your hair looked soft and styled in a way he had never seen it before. Your eyes were done up just enough in a way that made them shine even more than they usually do.
He’s trapped, and he is slowly realizing that he never wants to be set free.
When your eyes scan the room for anything familiar, they finally land on a set of eyes that are looking right back at you. You have to stop yourself from visibly gasping, why did his eyes feel so intense? What was he thinking as he made his way across the room to you.
Like Moses and the sea, everyone carefully parted to let you both have your moment. They all knew the chemistry between you too, and were more than happy to leave you alone as they carried on with their conversations and laughter.
“You look beautiful.” His voice was low, and held a sense of hesitant tenderness even he was unsure of. You knew he meant it.
“And you look very handsome, you even shaved for the party.” With a small laugh you gently ran the back of your fingers across his shaved cheek. This wasn't new, you had done this exact touch multiple times before when you made fun of his stubble yet- it felt more intimate than it ever had before. Aizawa knew he didn't mind it.
Carefully sliding his hand into yours, he lifts it up to press a soft and long kiss to your knuckles. “It is a special occasion. Would you like to join me tonight?” He was never a man who cushioned his words, straight to the point and expressing just how he felt was never an issue. You were different.
Accepting his offer, you move to accept his offered arm. The night starts slow as you both walk around and chat with other faculty members you work with. With Aizawas help you were confident that you were able to make some new friends, maybe going to this party wasn't so bad after all.
Everything else almost felt like a breeze. Laughs were shared, drinks were drank- and barriers were being broken down. You and Aizawa found yourselves slowly standing closer and closer together, close enough to where your fingers would brush against each other when one of you moved. All of Pro Hero Eraserhead’s friends could only watch with warm and excited smiles for him.
Like always, nights must always come to an end.
While some people left to retire for the night, others stayed longer to help clean or help more than drunk coworkers make it home safe. “I’m helping Nemuri make it home Sho! You gonna be okay making it back tonight?” Yamada had Nemuri balancing into his side, laughing as she drunkenly waved some of the others goodbye. “Oh! You all can head back home together if you’d like. I’m just helping clean a bit before I head back home.” you politely cut into their little chat, holding a medium sized black trash bag in your hands.
Taking a moment, Aizawa starts to shrug off his coat as he takes the garbage away from you. “I’ll stay behind to help clean. If you’re alright with it I can walk you home.” with wide eyes, the younger teacher could only nod before she turned away to hide her reddening cheeks to pick up more trash and plates.
“No worries, now get em TIGEr. RaaArW-” As Kayama tried to cheer her friend on, Yamada tugged her away with an amused laugh of his own.
Not even an hour later, everyone was out and the sky was as dark and it could be. The only stars you could see were the large ones as the light pollution shrouded out the smaller and weaker stars.
This time around, Aizawa's coat was wrapped around (y/n) shoulders, her head resting on him as they linked arms on the walk back to her house. Instead of splitting off halfway, he walks her all the way up to her front door. It was silent for a moment, the events from tonight silently washing over them.
“Thank you Aizawa, this...was a really nice night. I don't think it would have been as enjoyable as it was without you.” (y/n) broke the silence, turning to face and look up at the man she knew she would never look at the same again. Rubbing his mouth in thought, his eyes flicker between the young woman standing in front of him and the road.
“I want to thank you as well. I-.” He paused for a moment.
“I would like to kiss you, but I understand if you wouldn't. I think after tonight you know what my feelings are for you. I didn't even know about them fully until tonight. Kayama- Midnight was right. I was letting my worries hold me back when I should have been forward like I always am-”
Time freezes when he feels your hands pull down his face, your lips eagerly pressing into a kiss with such raw love and desperation. Instantly his arms move around to gently lift you up into him. One minute, two..three. You both only break apart for air and your warm breaths mingle against each other. “I’ve wanted to do that for a while now I think. My friend was right haha...maybe I do have a crush on you. I was just worried because I had no idea if you would even be interested in a relationship, let alone with someone as...young as me. I feel like a high schooler again haha.”
The fact that you were able to laugh the way you did and still hold him in your arms brought flutters to his chest. He knew now that he more than just saw you as a coworker or a close friend. He wants to be more. “I know what you mean. Who would want to be with someone as old as me? I would never want to make you feel like I was holding you back.” He would never admit it, but he felt like a young adult experiencing love for the first time...it was a bit embarrassing (in a good way.)
“You make me feel so helpless sometimes you know that?” pulling his head down again, (y/n) presses another soft kiss to Aizawa’s forehead. “What am I gonna do with you Aizawa?”
“Shouta.”
“Huh?”
“Shouta, call me Shouta if you want.” Thankful that it was dark out, he could feel himself heat up at the intimate suggestion.
With the way your eyes sparkled while you said his name, he knew he was hooked. There is no going back. “What am I gonna do with you, Shouta?”
“You’ll figure it out eventually. I’ll help you along the way as long as you’ll help me too.” The shared silence was an unbroken promise to do the best you both can.
After sharing your final kiss good night, you watch Shouta walk down the street and out of view before returning into the comfort of your home. The jacket around your shoulders smelt strongly of the stoic man you now called yours. Enjoying the warmth and comfort his coat brought you, kicking off your boots you hop over your couch and settle into a comfortable position.
Calling: Keigo <(‘V’)>
“WHY are you calling me at….2 in the MORNING. You gave me a damn heart attack-”
“You were right.” your voice was soft and held no regrets.
“Right? Right about what?”
“You were right, I did have feelings for Shouta. I said you would be the first person to call if you were right. And well, you were right.” The next hour was spent catching your best friend up on everything that happened tonight.

On the other side of the story, Aizawa finally made it home and had no problem finding sleep that night. He felt as ease knowing that things weren't going to turn out as bad as he thought it originally was going to be.
He can't say it, not yet.
But he is in love.
And so are you.
