"Does The State Recognize Cloned People?

The short answer is no. While it might seem like something out of a sci-fi movie, cloning humans has been possible for nearly ten years now, and although it is considered illegal to do so, many shady organizations have done so in order to increase labor and productivity without actually hiring anyone. That happens a lot due to the lack of oversight and no actual law that forbids owning the technology to clone or being "in possession" of a clone, in case of situations similar to human trafficking. But since clones aren't legally seen as people, nothing is done about it.

And since aren't technically born, they have no birth certificate, creating a problem in case they ever wish to study, have work rights or get married. They often have to share documents and an identity with their counterpart, making the process even more stressful and impractical.

For this article, a cloned individual — whose identity will remain anonymous by request — agreed to share his experiences. "I was let into Gotham Academy for the Gifted because the principal owed [my legal guardian], but other than that, I don't get any rights. In the government's eyes, I'm not legally a person."

Now the remaining question is: should New Jersey's council do something about this situation? We are clearly seeing a considerable increase in illegal cloning activity in Metropolis and Gotham City. A few superheroes even have come forward to publicly state that they are clones. The prime example being the first Superboy, whom Superman later confirmed to be a clone made by one of his human archenemies.

At this rate, we might face a huge unemployment crisis in ten to fifteen years time, if there's no intervention on cloning activity to make sure it isn't being used for the wrong purposes.

Prize winning reporter Lois Lane, from the Daily Planet, has come forth to announce that she considers herself an ally to the cause and is willing to keep the case updated."
